Education is NOT a selective process – if you teach one side of it, teach the other – kids need to know what it's about and it need not be explicit but it MUST be informative. I do not blame Sarah Palin and her husband for her daughter's pregnancy. I would hope that a 17-year old knows full well where babies come from and is capable of making the decision to not have sex. HOWEVER, it would behove children to learn about their bodies, the changes that are occurring and the very dangerous and contagious diseases that can result from sexual relations. My parochial school taught us sex ed in 7th grade, and I don't recall any rush to have sex. In fact, after learning about venereal diseases, I was terrified.

Grandma Sarah should have stayed home to teach her daughter about the birds and the bees if she did not want Bristol to learn anything about it in school. Looks to me like Bristol needed some "explicit sex-ed programs" that her Mom so vehemently opposes, Bristol got all the wrong information and or she would not be 5 months along.

I remember McCain ran one ad including Obama, Paris and Britney as immature and irresponsible. Now I am waiting for a new one includng Bristol Palin as a good example for teenagers. Bottom line, I think the solution is a hybrid and I hate to invoke Obama, but as he said in his Thursday speech, and I paraphrase "we may not agree on abortion, but surely we can all agree that we need to reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies."

Abstinence certainly prevents pregnancies, but teenagers are going to have sex, whether or not we want them to and no amount of education is going to change this. The best we can do is to educate them that there are alternatives and ways to practice safe sex.

Now that Palin has experienced the flipside of promoting "abstinence only" programs, she should encourage schools to promote a broader sex education program.

The problem with abstinence only is that the more you tell someone not to do something the more they will want to. Republicans don't get that. They think in 2008, that American families still look like The Waltons or Leave it to Beaver.

While young teens are typically not mature enough to be parents and should be educated on the effects of sex, we also need to be realistic and educate them on safe sex and contraception. That is the only way to reduce teen pregnancies.

We were all created with a libido. We are no different than other creatures on this planet in that we all have sex drives, and when we try to curtail that drive, that is where the problems start.

Of course she did and perhaps now she will understand that sex-ed programs are important. However, since the neo-cons are against education she may move to promote only home-education thereby keeping teen age guys and gals away from one another.

So Today is when they are releasing all the negativities about Palin.

From what I have heard on on the news about her infant is that she was in Texas giving a speech when her water broke. She then went on to give that speech and THEN instead of going to the nearest hospital like any other normal mother she got on a plane and flew back to Alaska to deliver that baby. Something just does not sit right with that entire story. There were even people saying at the time that she did not look pregnant. Also by her being the governer of Alaska she can probably make the medical records of hers/ and her daughter look they way she wants them to look saying she gave birth and not her daughter

The American people should be extremely angry and outraged at John McCain for selecting Palin as his VP. How could he potentially harm the United States for his own political gain. I wouldn't call it treason but some might.
