Palin has hired lawyer as trooper probe continues

(CNN) – Alaska Governor Sarah Palin hired a lawyer three weeks ago to act on her behalf as state legislators investigate whether she may have abused her power in firing the state police chief for refusing to fire her ex-brother-in-law, a state trooper, CNN has confirmed.

A report of findings of a legislative inquiry that began several weeks ago is currently slated to be released just days before Election Day.

Hiring a lawyer is the norm in things like this. She would be a fool if she didn't hire one

I am dissapointed in John McCain; I like to look at each candidate and judge them based upon what they would be able to do for me, my community and my country, in that order; by him only meeting with Palin twice....twice!...shows me that he makes "knee-jerk" decisions, and it has been my experience that these choices lead to horrible consequences. I'm dissapointed thoroughly and this American hero and I hope he reveals in detail what put her above other choices.

The comments from apparently the idiots this blog show just how shallow and hypocritical they are. Obama preaches "one nation" and "love" and "understanding" and yet these followers of his are so ugly and hateful. Slimeballs. They are a bunch of self-righteous idiots who jump to conclusions without any data to support their positions. Everyone knows when the other side hires a lawyer, you do it as well to make sure justice is done.

AS 39.05.030. Service at Governor's Pleasure.

Each principal executive officer serves at the pleasure of the governor.

Alaska's law is on Sarah Palin's side. She did nothing wrong or illegal and she does not have to justify what she did she doesn't even have to give a reason if she doesn't want to. Each executive officer that is appointed by her or any other governor of Alaska knows this when they accept the appointment.

I was thinking of voting for McCain, my first vote ever at 32, but after the pick of Palin, I think that is a slap in American's faces! Why did he pick someone like that, how will this person handle the President's job (god forbid) in a crisis like 9/11 if she can't handle this! I will either vote for Obama or wait until I am 36 to vote!

I watched the RNC Convention coverage to see what kind of storyline the Republicans would put on this and it is absolutely amazing. They are brilliant spinsters. If only they could use that power for good.

Internet rumors about Gov Palin's youngest child being her grandchild forced the McCain campaign to release the news about Gov Palin's future grandchild. McCain officials blamed the original story on Sen Obama. If the other person is responsible for any negative publicity, does that mean that Sen McCain is responsible for all the negative media stories about Sen Obama? I'm looking forward to hearing how Sen Obama started this story about the trooper firing investigation.

Since Friday, I have read hundreds of blogs regarding the potential VP.
In all of the debates on Gov Palin's experience – here is something to think about. During her introduction speech last Friday as she proudly discussed her oldest son that is proudly serving in the military, Gov Palin gave specific details about an upcoming unit movement. For those of you that have never served in the military, she has commited a potentially grave error. As Commander in Chief of the Alaska National Guard, she SHOULD know better.

As a proud military retiree with TOO MANY friends and comrades in the Middle East, I am APPALLED by this. Hopefully, her new group of advisors will teach Gov Palin how NOT to put more of our brave men and women in harm's way.

THANK YOU CNN for actually investigating the woman who could be the most powerful woman in the world. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

Palin is an undevoted mother who doesnt practice what she preaches
Under investigation for abuse of power

As a liberal liberal Democrat let me add my voice against the horrific 'YELLOW' journalism being currently practiced by CNN as it applies to the Republican Nominee for Vice President, Sarah Pallin.
To allow an air-headed, eye batter report the junior high school news from Podunk, USA, much less a having a voice in the current election campaign is outrageous. People like CNN have engineered a political landscape that knows no boundaries including prying into areas of candidate's families and lives which have no, I repeat, no consequence as to their ability to govern. CNN has worked hard to be the # 1 watched network but in so doing it ranks next to National Inquirer, The Star, and other Supermarket tabloids in its ability to 'report the news!' Your network deserves only losing its FCC license to broadcast. Hurray for Senator Obama on his terse comments to you muckrakers in face of its handling of Gov. Pallin's daughter. Shame on you dirty journalists!

    Paul, Europe:

We have always been and will always be one of the strongest economic and military powerhouses of the world.

The U.S. also gets more visa applications than any other countries in the world.

Do you always care what other people think of you when you make a decision??

Forget going after Sarah Palin-it won't work.

She's the real deal and she totally cancelled any post convention bounce for Obama. Since she was announced as VP, money has been flowing into the McCain coffers at a record pace and CNN shows the election at a dead heat. Pretty good considering Obama was annointed Savoir only a few days ago in Denver.

Sarah is going to bring in the rust belt vote in the small towns of Pennsylvania, Indiana, Ohio and Michigan. This is where the election will be decided. The rest of the country is basically fixed already.
And they love Sarah in middle America so Obama has tough sledding from here.

One thing about Sarah. When she runs into an 8 foot bear in the Alaskan woods, she knows what to do. Obama on the other hand would probably wet his pants. Why is this important? Because she won't give in like Hillary did. She's much tougher.

Palin is a joke of a running mate. Maybe the Republicans should have fully vetted her prior to making her McCain's running mate. Someone will so much drama and scandal should never have been considered. If she was a man with her resume, she would have never been in the picture.

Ok... mothers are simply the best at multi-tasking. But Sarah Palin's issues are ridiculous. And even more remarkable...you will see several republicans saying "....this is why she has my vote -

    1. A newborn with DS- many are saying is Bristol's 1st preganancy
    2. Bristol decides after 5 month's to have the baby and finally marry the father. Weren't rushing much were we? I would give that marriage 2 mos. – soon as they lose in Nov.
    3. Husband DUI – not a big deal but we can add to the drama
    4. Abuse of Power investigation.

Is there anything else. For her to be effective at VP would be "super human" for even the most intellectually adept. I'm sorry a journalism degree (SPORTS CASTER) doesn't indicate that type of aptitude.

my favorite Republican argument as to why she was a great pick is that she has TONS of foreign relations experience because Alaska borders 2 foreign nations. What experience does that give her?!?!? Managing illegal Caribou migrating from Siberia to Alaska across the Bering Strait? Dealing with the threat of Canadian Mounties invading from the East? This whole thing has just turned into 1 big joke.

This is just another example of McCain's poor judgement, but my question is how would the media be treating this if it were Obama's teen age daughter ,but McCain has gotten away with doing and saying stupid things in the past so why should he stop now?

I doubt that very few of you who point fingers and wag tongues would
stand up under a bright public spotlight. If you could there would be many more citizens able to enter political races.
DWI in 1984 is big news ? Come on.
BTW this is the first time I have opened the "comments" section and I am sorely disappointed by the small minded gossipy remarks left by so-called "educated" readers. Pitiful and a sad shame. I certainly won't waste my time here reading any other "news" stories.
