ST. PAUL, Minnesota (CNN) - A senior adviser to the McCain campaign confirmed Monday that Todd Palin, husband to Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, was arrested for driving while intoxicated in 1984.

"Yes, 24 years ago he had a DWI," senior McCain adviser Steve Schmidt told reporters in St. Paul.

Schmidt was asked if he was worried about the news, and replied, “I was not.”

The story was first reported by David Brody, a CNN contributor and Christian Broadcasting Network News Senior National Correspondent.

24 years ago, they were all up to no good. Obama and Cindy McCain were on drugs, McCain was cheating on his wife.

We shouldn't judge what people did 24 years ago when they are clearly different people now.

Ok, the news about Palin lying about her teenage daughter was big, but

the McCain camp is trying to diffuse things as much as they can by announcing all of Sarah's dirt (big and small) during a Hurricane.

This is taking the LOW ROAD when it comes to being honest and acting with integrity. This is corruption at its finest, folks.

Also, by coming out with a lot of stuff at once, they think it will desensitize us everyday folks to the news.

Surely he was a kid at that time. So I do not believe that is so relevant. Unlike the wife he is not running for office!

  6. Texans United For The Palin Family! Y'all stick together!

So now that Palin is the GOP VP pick, it's time to "dig the dirt" on the entire family... What a shame that this is our standard operating procedure in this country. The media certainly hit the ground running! I have no political party ties...I think we need 435 Palins in congress to turn this country around. Palin doesn't take any of the "status quo" bull. This country needs to stop being led around by the nose with all the negative media comments! Read up on the politicians for yourselves at congress.org.

By the way, Obama bin Biden and John McShame? I'm so glad we've reduced ourselves to primary school sarcasm. Grow up people!

It is a process of learning who she really is. So far it has not been good. The republicans, especially McCain's camp, obviously has not vetted her throughly enough.

A drunk driving record isn't a deal-breaker for Republicans, who elected Bush and Cheney, both of whom had multiple arrests on that charge. And knowingly exposing your 17-year-old daughter to the press after knowing what they've done to the likes of Jamie Lynne Spears apparently doesn't fall under the umbrella of protecting your children.

But, honestly, what does this say about John McCain's decision-making abilities?

Obama about his spouse in the campaign: "If they think they're going to try to make Michelle an issue in this campaign, they should be careful because that I find unacceptable." We better not hear one word from his campaign on this one.

Who cares realy. Everyone know that with drinking one beer you can get hit with a DWI. I know many people that have had that done to them and they were not drunk. The breath test needs to be recreated to really reflect when a person is really drunk.

The biggest issue here is: This woman is running on a super-conservative platform.

I don't need this person, hardly a beacon of perfection and good parenting, preaching morality to me from the White House.

Since most people's attention is on Gustav McCain's campaign is using the distraction of the hurricane to try to dump as much crap about his VP pick as possible.

Gee, a DWI arrest and a pregnant teenage daughter, and the McCain campaign announces both items the very same day that the media is busy with a hurricane pounding the Gulf coast. What a coincidence!

Unless this item has some relevance to Gov. Palin's candidacy, then I just don't understand why CNN is making it an issue. Incidentally, I do not support McCain/Palin or the Republican Party for that matter. But there has to be fair and responsible journalism. I recognise that driving while intoxicated is an offense but this happened 24 years ago!!!

While Bristol's teen pregnancy and Todd's DWI are clearly not reason's that Sara is unqualified to be the VP, it certainly makes one wonder if John McCain is senile for having picked her, and the baggage that comes with her, to run on the ticket.

Clearly the vetting process was not thorough and if it was, you have to wonder why in the wolrd McCain would pick her with so many other qualified candidates who don't have the political baggage that Palin does.

If selecting a running mate is a clear indicator of a candidates ability to make sound decisions then it's certain McCain is out of his mind!
