ST. PAUL, Minnesota (CNN) - A senior adviser to the McCain campaign confirmed Monday that Todd Palin, husband to Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, was arrested for driving while intoxicated in 1984.

"Yes, 24 years ago he had a DWI," senior McCain adviser Steve Schmidt told reporters in St. Paul.

Schmidt was asked if he was worried about the news, and replied, “I was not.”

The story was first reported by David Brody, a CNN contributor and Christian Broadcasting Network News Senior National Correspondent.

ALL THIS JUST SHOWS HOW INCOMPITANT MCCAIN IS NOT TO HAVE VETTED THIS WOMAN AND MADE A DIFFERANT CHIOCE. I AM A DEMOCRAT BUT WAS A LITTLE WORRIED ABOUT ROMNEY BEING PICKED FOR MCCAIN BUT NOW I CAN SLEEP EASY AT NIGHT KNOWING MCCAIN IS MAKING OBAMA THE PRESIDENT OF THE USA FOR US.... KEEP IT UP MCCAIN.

  5. Calm down, folks

I'm an Obama supporter, but let me say this: this is not a big deal. Everyone makes mistakes, and her husband is not running for office. Unless he's shown a history of such criminal offenses, give the guy a break.

Let's talk about the real issues – how Obama is the better choice this fall because he represents REAL change. McCain des not offer change – only pander and more of the same (plus the desire to add conservative judges to the supreme court, which would be a disaster).

What a surprise...first she leaves her four month old baby with Down syndrome and now her 17 year old daughter still in high school is pregnant!!! Maybe she should concentrate on being a good mother instead of her own political ambitions!! Actions speak louder then words!

Wow that is digging back a long time ago. He must have been in HS when that happened. But the real story about this is did McCain already know this? He should have learned it during the vetting process. Drunk driving, teenage pregnancy, what next?

CNN: Enough of becoming a gossip rag. Let's see some reporting on where Palin stands on the issue. More than time to start insisting on a one on one interview with this candidate. She is running for the 2nd highest office in the country and she has yet to speak to it!!!

Wow, this is News that's 24 years old. You guys are really looking for dirt and dragging up stuff that is completly illrevelant to anything. How does this effect the campaign? It has no baring on anything, yet it's considered news. I bet almost a quarter of this countries population has had a DWI somewhere along the line. It's amazing that all this negativity coming from all these blogs is nothing but fluff to make Obama look more "experienced" then he really is. So Sad.

OK...24 years ago? People can change. But this family is not what I call the American family for "Example Following". What is this women thinking? STOP WHILE YOU HAVE ANY VALUES LEFT TO YOUR NAME or your family. McCain, you should be ashamed to ask this family to be put in the limelight of public shame!!!

This is totally not news anymore than Bush's old DWI charges were. What happens in decades gone by does not indicate what a person is today. And besides, this is not a charge against Sara, it is a charge (and and old one at that) against her husband.

Perhaps McSame should have vetted his choice. Very scary to think this guy will use the same judgment in deciding who he would like to put on his short-list of countries to invade.

With all the teen pregnancy does McCain realize that he is sending the message to young people that this is ok.

"Edwards is considered "not news" and yet this is? No slant or agenda here."
    --------------------------------–

Edwards is no longer running for President or VP, a person that would potentially be a heartbeat away from the Presidency that can't even run her own household shouldn't be running for VP

24 years ago, America had objective observers with the news organizations. Today we have the progressively state run media that is feeding America what it deems as news. Our 1st admendment is evidently not as valuable as it once was..

Not really news!!!!! People are human, same with the couples pregnant daughter. The problem is when the Republicans and the Christian right try to make people out to be superhuman!!!!!!

The only thing that concerns me about this revelation is that it sounds and feels like the American people are going through a post-decision vetting process with the McCain campaign. They are allowing this election to turn into some kind of Palin family drama and worse a complete campaign circus.

    Enough already!

What is going on with McCain? Why is he and his campaign showing such disrespect for the American people?

Yes it is news that Mr. Palin has a DWI. If this were Michelle Obama, then you all would be claiming how terrible of a person that Barack Obama is.
