ST. PAUL, Minnesota (CNN) - A senior adviser to the McCain campaign confirmed Monday that Todd Palin, husband to Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, was arrested for driving while intoxicated in 1984.

"Yes, 24 years ago he had a DWI," senior McCain adviser Steve Schmidt told reporters in St. Paul.

Schmidt was asked if he was worried about the news, and replied, “I was not.”

The story was first reported by David Brody, a CNN contributor and Christian Broadcasting Network News Senior National Correspondent.

    it's a clear choice people:

    1) Obama- a man that knows what it means to run the country. His judement in the right place- Country First.

    2) McCain- a man who doesn't know what is going on- period.

As a republican the choice is now clear for me. Obama is the drama free president I need for education, healthcare and national security.

What more can we hear about this family of "family values. "

This woman needs to go back to AK and try her conservatism there. She needs most of all to become a part of her family. Her neighbors are talking about her; the State is and so are those who have been deemed as ignorant and blaming Obama. What about sex education; sexual protection. This woman does not have a clue.

What her daughter is experencing is common place in America. What is not ,is a woman that puts country first., family last. Who's first. and where does that sick baby fit in. This young girl is being exposed because of her mom's desires to be out front.

You do not represent family values and this is not a role teenagers should see in government. When you put yourself in the limelight, your whole family is in the lime light. Go homeSarah, take care of your family and don't make this girl suffer any more.

Well, clearly this means Todd Palin is not qualified to be president. That is, according to democrats, the best candidates have done cocaine (like Obama did), so Todd Palin, an independent, falls short. Oops....Todd Palin isn't wanting to be VP but Obama is wanting to be president. This is a non-issue, for Obama, and for McCain's campaign.

REPUBLICANS and theirm "Family Values". What a joke.

Just since FRIDAY, we have found out that this woman flip=flopped on teh Bridge to Nowhere" in Alaska, now soon to be a grandmotehr, and hunsband with a DWI arrest.

It's obvious to me that she cares more about her career than her family.

Stay tuned, there is a lot more to come.

Wow...so they are like normal people? Banish the thought... My spouse's stupid decisions are not my own. If my teenager gets pregnant, it's not because I haven't spent years talking to them about safe sex and trying to share my beliefs with them. I have planned to vote for Obama all along. I'm not going to use the excuse that Sarah's family acts like a normal family against them... No, not everyone has DWI's, not everyone has pregnant teens. But how many of us have totally spotless closets? How many of us with dirty closets are hypocritical enough to pick the speck out of her eye while ignoring the plank in our own? Move on. It makes them more realistic...

haha what a joke sarah palin's nomination is. it's obvious that mccain is getting desperate. now he's labeling himself the candidate who can "best shake up washington" and totally undermining his claim against obama's inexperience.

    republicans are gross.

Come on people leave the Palin's alone. "Let he who has no sin,
cast the first stone". We all have made our mistakes, and some of us more than others. In my opinion, she will do great in the White House, cause she's been there...

Oh My God! 24 years ago some guy NOT running for office had a DWI!

Wow, this combined with the abusive ex-brother in law and the teenage pregnancy CLEARLY shows that, although unrelated to Governor Palin, she is clearly the devil.

Looks like this gamble has blown-up in Sen McCain's face. It is sad to see the influence of the far right on the once independent McCain.

This one is not a huge deal, unless it leads to something more current....

The daughter being pregnant, and the child with DS supposively being the daughters is more what needs to be found out on...

Two children for a young daughter, tisk tisk... now those are family values!!!

McCain's camp did a very bad job of vetting this family. Or McCain just has very poor judgement. I just changed my mind. I am now voting for Obama."

What a bunch of lies! LOL. As if you weren't always voting for Obama.

What does this have to do with anything?

Obama voluntarily admitted that he, in fact, experimented with drugs and alcohol as he was growing up.

Now Mr. Palin has to wear his consequence for the rest of his life because he got a DWI.

My question for you- how is the act any different?

What a great day for the Republicans...

Daughter 5 months pregnant at 17, and it comes out only b/c of some blogs - notice Bristol was holding baby during announcement of mother's VP nomination to hide bump.

Palin says they are so happy she made the decision to have the baby. WOW, isn't this a belief in / plea for PRO-choice then? Also, what if daughter Bristol was raped or this was a case of incest? Would Palin still be proud?

Now, hubby has a record of DWI -

What a fine, upstanding conservative, religious, right – eous family they are?

What is NEXT or hiding under the ice in Alaska?

Interesting too that this is all coming out on a day when Gustav is the biggest thing on the news.

Former Hillary supporter, not DEAD SET for Obama/Biden '08 – Ladies, get behind this ticket!

So the Republicans can no longer bring up Obama's "inexperience", Joe's "plagerism (which was also over 20 years ago) or "family values".
