(CNN) – A day after the nation’s attention was focused on the Gulf Coast and Hurricane Gustav, Republicans announced that they are resuming their convention schedule – though they will share the spotlight with those affected by the storm.

Jessica Yellin reports on Monday’s subdued schedule – where the most prominent speakers were first lady Laura Bush and Cindy McCain, who both asked delegates to help storm victims.

Off the convention floor, Monday was full of surprises for Republicans as vice presidential nominee Gov. Sarah Palin revealed that her 17-year-old daughter is five months pregnant and intends to marry the baby’s father.
