The Obama campaign released a new ad Tuesday afternoon.

(CNN) – After a mutually observed cease-fire caused by Hurricane Gustav’s landfall, the McCain and Obama camps are back at it.

On the same day that President Bush is set to address the Republican convention via satellite, the Obama campaign released a new television advertisement that attempts to link Bush to Sen. John McCain, who will soon be formally named as the GOP’s nominee.

The 30-second spot, “Same” will air on national cable and in battleground states beginning Tuesday.

“I voted with the president over 90 percent of the time, higher than a lot of my even Republican colleagues,” McCain says in footage included in the ad.

(Full script after the jump)

Script, "Same" ad, 30 seconds

ANNCR: They share the same out of touch attitude.

The same failure to understand the economy.

The same tax cuts for huge corporations and the wealthiest one percent.

The same questionable ties to lobbyists.

The same plan to spend ten billion a month in Iraq when we should be rebuilding America.

McCAIN: I voted with the president over 90 percent of the time, higher than a lot of my even Republican colleagues.

ANNCR: We just can’t afford more of the same.

OBAMA: I’m Barack Obama and I approved this message.

Aussie in U.S.   September 2nd, 2008 8:08 pm ET

I think McCain is worse that Bush. He has in the past not only supported war but pushed for greater show of force with the use of devastating weapons to kill innocent women and children.
He also has a latent temper that Americans have yet to see.
He is a very dangerous man.
Americans will get what they deserve if they vote him in.

frustration   September 2nd, 2008 8:01 pm ET

with McCain you have the second term confusion of Reagen, and the bad judgment of Bush…

Its time for a dem to get in office and clean up another bush mess… I mean look at McCain, hes causing his own little mess with Palin already… could you imagine the country after 4 years of that…

come now…

evolution people!

evolve as a country, move on
CHANGE

I am watchint the RNC. I noted when watching the DNC that some of your "facts" included the make up of those attending the DNC by gender, age and ethnic make up. I haven't seen it so far with the RNC. If they are serious about reaching out to a younger and more inclusive America you can not tell it by what I am seeing.

DJ in Colorado   September 2nd, 2008 7:54 pm ET

BUSH=MCCAIN
MCCAIN=BUSH

The same no matter how you look at it!

Geri   September 2nd, 2008 7:51 pm ET

Obama needs to check his own voting record

MD in GA   September 2nd, 2008 7:50 pm ET

Perfect ad. Nothing like your own words on tape to come back and haunt you. There's no spend the McCain camp can put on this…

Ty   September 2nd, 2008 6:50 pm ET

I thought that even if McCain did get elected we would be better off than we were under Bush….

With this sick joke picking Palin as a running mate I fear McCain may be worse than Bush.

That decision pushed this independent voter to Obama.

Oscar Pasadena   September 2nd, 2008 6:49 pm ET

McCain first policy decesion the selection of a vice presidential candidate shows two attributes. First he is wreckless. Forget the lady's family. This is like selecting a baseball player from little league, promote the player to the major leagues and hope the player excells. Possible but not likely. WRECKLESS. Second, McCain is now a prisoner of the extreme right. He could have picked Condaliza Rice, Kay Bailey Hutchison and many other reasonable and better qualified women, but nooooo he choose a Automatic weapon user, right wing wacco that delights in "Butchering moose" and denying fellow citizens their right to their beliefs. Sory John but you do not have the judgement to lead the FREE World.

FlaDem   September 2nd, 2008 6:43 pm ET

Love the ad. Now we need one showing all the contradictions coming out of McCains mouth. There are so many good clips out there. Let's put them side by side.

cali Bar-rocks   September 2nd, 2008 6:36 pm ET

what else do they have in common?
1) well most of the McCain campaign is run by recycled Bush wo/men..Leslie Sanchez, Rick David, Schmitz, Tucker Bound to name a few..
2) they both have special interest pulling their strings….so who are some of the 59 LOBBYIST running the McCain campaign? well we see them all the time on tv…Wayne Berman-chevron, Eric Burgeson-BP, Frank Donatelli-EXXON, Rebecca Anderson-Sunoco, Charlie Black-Occidental petro., Nancy Pfotenhauer-Koch Ind. and Randy Scheunemann-Amco….

well that's not country first, John McCain is country CLUB first…after 8 years of Bush/McCain don't you think we can do BETTER?

Ed, Fl   September 2nd, 2008 6:36 pm ET

This is no-brainer he has voted with Bush 90% of the time, how can we expect him to be different ?

Anne E.   September 2nd, 2008 6:35 pm ET

Now THIS is effective!
McCain's first decision (picking Palin as VP) was, in his own words, a "bomb, bomb, bomb . . ."
How will a man who can't properly vet a running mate run this country??? SAME as BushCo!!!

Mat   September 2nd, 2008 6:34 pm ET

that was the best Obama campaign ad yet! they need to keep those up this week -

Obam-uh and the Celebu-tards   September 2nd, 2008 6:30 pm ET

Uhhh huh huh huh huh… uh, huh huh huh… and then, like, they said, like, "McSame." Uh huh huh… that's pretty funny to like a 14-year-old or something.

harfish   September 2nd, 2008 6:28 pm ET

Mcain is worse than bush and think he is out touch!

Susan from Scotts Valley, CA   September 2nd, 2008 6:27 pm ET

The Republicans that post on this site (even those claiming to be Clinton supporters) are freakin' idiots. Anyone that would vote for McCain and Palin and subject this country to four more years of misery are out of their minds!

Jimmy, did you listen to his acceptance speech? He gave as much specificity as he could given the venue and the rest is all spelled out on his website. Get a clue and stop spouting Republican talking points.

April in Texas   September 2nd, 2008 6:23 pm ET

This add is sooooo true and it rocks..

ALLAN USA   September 2nd, 2008 6:21 pm ET

NO Obama , No obama No obama.

ramon   September 2nd, 2008 6:20 pm ET

" BESIDES LACKING THE EXPERIENCE TO GOVERN , OBAMA HAS REALLY NOT SHOWN US ANY SPECIFICS ABOUT THE 'CHANGES' WE HAVE GROWN TIRED OF HEARING."

You don't seem to be very smart. Didn't you hear Obama has more executive experience because he is running his OWN campaign for president? Like most people who don't support Obama, you are probably a racist and an ignorant.

Plus all those years as a community organizer….
No wonder Bill Clinton waited until the end to support him.
As an independent, I did consider voting for Obama; but the more I listen to him, the more I realize that he is nothing but an excellent teleprompter reader. Get rid of that teleprompter and he seems as smart as Bush.

Obama lovers - feel free to call me racist, ignorant, big oil lover, and the rest of the nice adjectives you have for people who won't support this Obama clown.

Lonnie   September 2nd, 2008 6:17 pm ET

I hope the next 4 years turn out just like the last…

i was medically discharged from the navy and i now own my own company that helps veterans, and i get a nice check from the VA every month…

just because some irresponsible people took out home loans they couldn't afford doesn't mean we should throw away everything this country became in the last 200 years..

Democrats… why don't you look up "personal responsibility"

Stephy   September 2nd, 2008 6:15 pm ET

Look at the twins joined at the head. America needs to see that they share the same thoughts, views and policies. 8 is more than enough. I guess the republicans have to completely ruin america america before we as a people wake up. If you are not rich or wealthy, these people don't see you or your struggle.

Herman In LA   September 2nd, 2008 6:13 pm ET

CNN where is the link to the ad? I noticed that every time Obama put's up a ad the links to the ad are never included but when McCain put up a ad everyone can click on it to see it right off of your web page.

Fair and balance reporting please that all we ask.

Victor A.   September 2nd, 2008 6:11 pm ET

President Bush is category 4 disaster and Senator McCain is category 5 disaster!!! Voters please think twice before you vote.

Lacy   September 2nd, 2008 6:09 pm ET

Politifact.com confirmed that Obama's figure was correct, McCain has voted with President Bush 90% percent of the time. So if you actually approve of the job Bush has done and where he's led this country, then by all means vote for McCain/Palin with happy heart.

However I will be voting for someone who understands this world and our country is complicated, and so are the solutions.

herb   September 2nd, 2008 6:08 pm ET

hey
come on lighten up on McCain @72 what do you expect–he dont't get around like he did when he was 47—and dont't think as well either the old gray male is not what he use to be—ops the old white hair wrinkle guy is not what he use to be—you go Mcshame

bill mullis   September 2nd, 2008 6:08 pm ET

Shannon...   September 2nd, 2008 6:03 pm ET

what are you talking about? Start researching your facts and get a clue! Obama has done none of the things that you claim. Obviously you are the typical non-informed voter.

jimmy   September 2nd, 2008 6:02 pm ET

SORRY WE DONT KNOW FROM OBAMA'S SPEECHES WHAT CHANGES HE HOPES TO ACCOMPLISH WITH AN OLD WASHINGTON POLITICIAN JOE BIDEN AS HIS VP.. BESIDES LACKING THE EXPERIENCE TO GOVERN , OBAMA HAS REALLY NOT SHOWN US ANY SPECIFICS ABOUT THE 'CHANGES' WE HAVE GROWN TIRED OF HEARING.

Luke   September 2nd, 2008 6:01 pm ET

It's OK Sweetheart, those big bad Democrats won't hurt you if I have anything to do with it. I'll send Karl after em.

GWBush

Lisa from VA   September 2nd, 2008 6:01 pm ET

I think McCain could actually be worse than Bush. The first important decision he has made….picking a VP….pathetic. He obviously thinks Palen is the most qualified republican in this country besides himself…..what a joke.

LS   September 2nd, 2008 6:01 pm ET

I can't wait until this week is over. I will NOT watch the RNC convention on t.v.. I can barely handle the CNN website news coverage without feeling slightly ill.

Debbie, MO   September 2nd, 2008 5:56 pm ET

Palin is a scandal ridden mess. What the heck was McCain thinking.

McCain's judgement is a disgrace. Please replace Palin with a real VP candidate……just in case McCain wins this election.

Please America………..Obama 08 !!!!!!

Dem voter, first time   September 2nd, 2008 5:50 pm ET

Good ad. It's the truth.

hunkyman   September 2nd, 2008 5:48 pm ET

Yup! That's why he's called McSame.

Billy   September 2nd, 2008 5:45 pm ET

"Surge has been a success." We are bleeding money in Iraq, get over yourself and wake up and realize that it was a mistake in the first place. We need to get out! We need to focus on our country now!!

RJ   September 2nd, 2008 5:43 pm ET

get a life Nova with that old talking point. if the surge is working why are soldiers still getting killed and their are still bombings going on in Bagdad!!!!

Joe Regis   September 2nd, 2008 5:42 pm ET

I am telling you, this time America is awake and will not be fooled by the repubs tricks and acts of wickedness to get elected again and again. The lies are not going to work this time. I doubt that hey will.

Change is coming to Washington this year.

Obama/Biden 08/12.

collinon   September 2nd, 2008 5:42 pm ET

Flawed logic. Bush even has 90% policy overlap with Clinton who had 90% in common with the another Bush.

No way..   September 2nd, 2008 5:40 pm ET

Whoa! Great ad. This just about says it all. But maybe Obama should cover his bases and say it all..

Humberto   September 2nd, 2008 5:38 pm ET

Obama does not even know who he is running against, he is running against McCain and Palin not Bush. Find a new line this one is worn out Obama…

Legal Democrat for McCain/Palin Ticket 08

Roxy, New York   September 2nd, 2008 5:38 pm ET

Good ad. :-)

AntiBrenda   September 2nd, 2008 5:37 pm ET

Nothing wrong with Americans getting to know the truth about the candidate. And YES !! 95% times voting with Bush. And now running around preaching "change" .
Is he taking us for idiots?

REED   September 2nd, 2008 5:36 pm ET

Shame on Bush and shame on McCain! What in the world was he thinking? He had my vote right up to him announcing Palin for his V.P. For crying out loud, how can anyone justify her when she could be just a heartbeat away?!?! She could be a Middle East nightmare!
Obama in 2008

Donna   September 2nd, 2008 5:36 pm ET

Awww. Don't they just look so cozy together?

Frank and Ernest   September 2nd, 2008 5:36 pm ET

Why is it there is no link to the ads from Obama but we get them for McCain and even Hillary?

Eric-29-m-PA   September 2nd, 2008 5:36 pm ET

Is that all they have? Pretty sad.

Jan Il.   September 2nd, 2008 5:36 pm ET

This is so true, you could stand anybody in the world up along side this man, and it would look bad for that person. What a joke and a crying shame.

Shannon   September 2nd, 2008 5:36 pm ET

I'm ashamed to be a Democrat, is this all Obama is going to do is attack, attack working women, attack children and teen agers, attack babies with Downs Syndrome, attack, attack. I raised a beautiful daughter while working full time. I can't believe Democrats are condemning working mothers. I say women of America, this isn't right, anyone but Obama!

Nova from NV   September 2nd, 2008 5:35 pm ET

One thing Barak Obama does not want to accept is that the Surge has been a success. He was opposed to it from the very beginning. McCain had the vision to support it all the while the whole country was against it. Obama is very naive when it comes to foreign policy.

Boye   September 2nd, 2008 5:35 pm ET

It's kinda funny how that picture like you are seeing Bush's reflection in a mirror of time.

Mike, TX   September 2nd, 2008 5:35 pm ET

Obama has extensive ties to lobbyists as well.
Obama doesn't understand basic economic realities.
Obama will RAISE everyone's taxes (have him explain all his proposed tax increases, not just those on the rich).
Obama doesn't understand what "small businesses" really are.
Obama plans to enact into law a bill that would REQUIRE the US government to give almost 1% of the annual GDP to the UN (his bill, look it up).

Obama is such a lightweight that he cannot even do his own math and see that his change is even more of the same.

Foreign Observer   September 2nd, 2008 5:34 pm ET

whaddayamean, "attempts to link"? Here's John McCain, verbatim
"the fact is that I'm different but the fact is that I have agreed with President Bush far more than I have disagreed. And on the transcendent issues, the most important issues of our day, I've been totally in agreement and support of President Bush." Not sure what McCain thinks "transcendent" means, but that's another story.

Bozack   September 2nd, 2008 5:34 pm ET

They're McSame alright. They're too close together. Look at Bush smiling. Broke Back Mountain sequel?

Breck   September 2nd, 2008 5:34 pm ET

A excellent ad, well done. This will bring to people's attention that they're voting for McSame Old Thing.

Chris   September 2nd, 2008 5:33 pm ET

Simple and clean politics… though I'd really like to see some attacks on McCain's service, policies, judgement, healthcare, economic experience, tendancy to shoot and then ask questions, cowboy diplomacy, unilateral diplomacy etc. so I can watch him whine or get angry.

Obama Supporter   September 2nd, 2008 5:30 pm ET

McCryinShame/Bushwack the same as before and will be after the presidential nomination.

John, NC, Vet   September 2nd, 2008 5:29 pm ET

I will be voting Democratic for the first time in my life this year!
Unfortunately for the Republican Party, McCain just isnt strong enough to run this country in its present state.. Both Mentally and Physically!

Republican for Obama

Dj   September 2nd, 2008 5:29 pm ET

And a LEFT hook to the mouth staggers McDazed…

Susan   September 2nd, 2008 5:26 pm ET

Sweet !!

Want Four More Years?

Gia in Los Angelels, CA   September 2nd, 2008 5:26 pm ET

Simple and to the point. Uses McCain's own words and voting record. No way McCain can deny it or claim this is a distortion! Good job, Obama!

RB from NH   September 2nd, 2008 5:25 pm ET

McCain is even worse. At least if Bush croaked Cheney could take over (its not like he isn't running the government now).

NO PRESIDENT PALIN! NO WAY, NO HOW!

Noah, from the all important swing state of Michigan   September 2nd, 2008 5:24 pm ET

Good, Honest, AD

Susan   September 2nd, 2008 5:23 pm ET

McCain is exactly like Bush. He should have hugged a tree instead of Bush, the image just won't go away!

Capt. Smash, Salt Lake City, Utah   September 2nd, 2008 5:23 pm ET

Great add now you need one about mothers that abandon there children.
