From

ST. PAUL (CNN) – Lieberman’s making an anti-partisan speech in front of a deeply partisan audience. Republicans see Lieberman as a way to attract Jewish voters. But polls indicate that Jews solidly prefer Obama, and that Lieberman’s popularity among Jewish voters has diminished. But it makes for an interesting tableau: odd to hear mention of global warming at a Republican convention.

He praised Clinton to a Republican audience – not generally safe thing to do. He’s trying to paint McCain as a more genuine unifier than Obama. The idea of John McCain as a maverick has become an object of heated partisan dispute. Maybe in 2000 it was undisputed. But not this year. And they’re beginning to raise questions about Sarah Palin as a maverick too. Did she really oppose the Bridge to Nowhere?

Lieberman’s days in the Senate Democratic caucus are numbered. The moment Democrats get enough votes to hold a majority without him, he’s gone.

That's the first time I've ever seen a man throw himself under the bus. I agree with the majority comment. The Democrats are going to shun him now until he's gone.

Becky   September 2nd, 2008 11:09 pm ET

Lieberman stinks! I'm disguisted after listening to his rant.

Ito   September 2nd, 2008 11:09 pm ET

Lieberman is a loser who has lost his steam. He's fading very fast into political irrelevance.

Mike   September 2nd, 2008 11:09 pm ET

kick him out of the party please

Rob   September 2nd, 2008 11:08 pm ET

Joe Lieberman just threw it down!! Wow. I am so fired up!!
The game is ON, my friends!!

Kevin   September 2nd, 2008 11:08 pm ET

Bill is right, Lieberman is gone. His speech will do more to unify the Democratic party and a lot of Independents, like mysel, to vote for Barak Obama than anything else.

Jennie   September 2nd, 2008 11:08 pm ET

Liberman is what we call a traitor in military

Obama/Biden 08   September 2nd, 2008 11:08 pm ET

You are right Lieberman... we shouldn't vote for a party, but for the person. That's why we should all vote Obama, and not McCain.

Brad Rothman   September 2nd, 2008 11:08 pm ET

Party Politics aside: Senator Lieberman sounded bitter from a previous presidential election.

David   September 2nd, 2008 11:07 pm ET

The opportunity to lose this weasel is reason enough to vote for Democratic senate candidates.

NoBama   September 2nd, 2008 11:07 pm ET

Never before in history has the democratic nominee for President been as far left … or had less experience … than Barack Obama.

You can't really believe he will ever actually be President can you?

Mr. Educator   September 2nd, 2008 11:07 pm ET

I guess it is easy to be stabbed in the back and still smile giving a speak praising one of your best friends.

Lori   September 2nd, 2008 11:07 pm ET

just listened to the last 2 speaches...blah blah blah...how boring!!!

Arkansas Undertaker   September 2nd, 2008 11:07 pm ET

You better believe he is gone!

Mike in Cincinnati   September 2nd, 2008 11:07 pm ET

Will do, Joe. I will vote this November not for the party, but for the candidate that will best move this country forward. I will vote for Barack Obama.

Anthony   September 2nd, 2008 11:07 pm ET

One word for Liberman ..." TRAITOR"

Cheri   September 2nd, 2008 11:07 pm ET

Joe Lieberman is a turncoat. He will never be excepted back into the democratic party. What a loser.I am so sick of hearing about John McCain and his being a pow.Is this all he has going for him?

Al Ram   September 2nd, 2008 11:06 pm ET

Sen. Lieberman is I believe one of the characters in the Last Supper. He is acting naturally.

IL   September 2nd, 2008 11:06 pm ET

good bye and good riddings to bad rubbish!!!! Away with Lieberman!!!!

Just Saying   September 2nd, 2008 11:06 pm ET

Yeah, stick a fork in him. He's DONE.

Obama for President!!!   September 2nd, 2008 11:06 pm ET

Lieberman stated that "this is no ordinary election, because these are not ordinary times" - no kidding. These are not "ordinary times" because we have had 8 nightmarish ineffective years that have left us in a war we never should have entered into, with a broken economy, and very little respect from people abroad. That's why we need Obama, not more of the same!

It makes absolutely no sense that Lieberman would agree with Obama on the issues 95% of the time but would then vote for McCain. Unfathomable.

Ken   September 2nd, 2008 11:05 pm ET

Lieberman has never really been a Democrat anyway, has he?

Kona   September 2nd, 2008 11:05 pm ET

This is one of the worst speaches I've ever heard. Joe L. is not only incredibly boring, but he's clearly playing to anger, fear, and the same tired rules of the game that the Republicans play this time every four years. Really, this is a joke.

Furthermore, this is one the least diverse crowds I've ever seen. It's like a southern revivalist meeting. Nothing against my own European ancestry, but goodness where is the diversity here. Not just ethnic diversity, but even appearance. All the men look like ranchers or bankers. All the women look like lawyers or house wives. Nothing wrong with that, but when you get the same people in the room it's the quickest way to "group think," and when you vote this way you get the results we have now. Sad.

Independent, white female for Obama   September 2nd, 2008 11:05 pm ET

Goodbye Joe and don't let the door hit you in the as-!

CNN is biased towards the Republicans   September 2nd, 2008 11:05 pm ET

Lieberman can always go to Alaska.

eman   September 2nd, 2008 11:05 pm ET

By praising Palin too, Lieberman undermined his whole speech.

Up to that point one could believe he said what he knows about his colleague, and what he truely believes. But after praising Palin like that, it is clear that he would say just anything.

Jason   September 2nd, 2008 11:04 pm ET

Your a loser and a hater..... I love it!!

Lee from FL   September 2nd, 2008 11:04 pm ET

It is not honorable to sell out your fellow democrats.

please hope McCain wins or you are done for

v.a.   September 2nd, 2008 11:04 pm ET

transparent.

Larry B.   September 2nd, 2008 11:04 pm ET

Could that audience look any more comatose? Could those speakers sound any less enthusiastic? It looks like they raided the local morgue to fill the seats. The big black buzzard of doom is gliding over this shindig, and everyone there seems to know it.

It's supposed to be the Republican PARTY! Lighten up! Have some fun! Party like W. used to!

Of course the conservatives are stuck with a loser, so they may as well live it up a bit.
