Former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney spoke at the RNC earlier this evening.
Former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney spoke at the RNC earlier this evening.

What's happened to Mitt Romney? He was a pretty strong campaigner, but at the convention he fell into self-parody.

A guy from Massachusetts who's worth $500 million, whose father was the president of American Motors, the governor of Michigan and a cabinet secretary - he's criticizing the "Eastern elite"?

Who is he kidding? Again and again he spat out the word "liberal." I was waiting for him to attack the pro-choice, pro-gay-rights, pro-universal health care liberal governor of Massachusetts - Mitt Romney.

I suppose Mitt has decided to rise above principle. Did you notice he never once uttered the word, "Bush."

So, where is the part where the blue collar voters get to hear what the Republicans are going to do about their jobs? Their healthcare? Their energy prices

Drill baby drill is great rhetoric, but the average Joe isnt hearing anything about solutions

I think the real question is...how many white people can fit into one arena? I mean seriously, how can you say you stand for the best of America when you only represent one ethnicity? Also, Rudy is a tool. Way to finally show up for your job after the worst attack in our history.

Do you want an unknown like Sara Palin answering the White House phone at 3:00am ? Think about for a moment . That's scary. She can't handle her own house, how can she handle the White House when John McSame croaks. And he will. Let's be realistic here. We can not go backwards with the old GOP failed policies. (GOP) Geezers and Old People with old ideas that do not benefit young people. Everyone knows that John McSame is in this race for two things. Oil and "booty". He chooses a running mate who is tied to big oil. Sounds like Cheney old ways. He chooses beauty queens instead of qualified people like C. Rice. He just kept looking at Sara Palin's "booty" over and over. He is only thinking about himself not America. A 72 year old man who can't remember how many houses he has. No way No how No McSame.

Ronald   September 3rd, 2008 10:28 pm ET

More fear mongering! They act like they didn't have the last eight years to proove what they can do. Guess what they got an F. I think its funny how easilly Mr. Mayor can be sold and can sell someone he doesn't even know!

Bill   September 3rd, 2008 10:28 pm ET

OK.. I admit it.. These REPUGS are repugnant.. What a bunch of blowhards.. Look at them now with their defense of Palin.. Where was this moral recitude when all of the rumors and books were out there smearing and sliming Obama.

Please.. VOTE Obama/Biden

Stephanie   September 3rd, 2008 10:28 pm ET

Giuliani, is sending racial undertones, fear, and sexism. They (reps)continue to disrespect Obama's accomplishments and acts as if his 18 million voters are uneducated with the process of politics. It doesn't take long to come up to speed on avoiding facts.Stop talking about Reagan and explain to the American people about the last 8 years of Bush/McCain. And... as a mother of five Palin has nothing in common with my family.

Republican NOT voting for McCain/Palin   September 3rd, 2008 10:28 pm ET

The Republican's need to get on their knee's and repent. This has been one of the worst and most hateful convention's I have ever seen.

What about the people? They are so busy trashing everyone, insulting State's and making butt's out of theirselves. This is sickening.

Ron   September 3rd, 2008 10:28 pm ET

I would probably have voted for McCain if he had chosen Mitt, but I agree with the majority here. Mitt's speech was awful. Very dry.

You get the feeling Mitt wishes he was picked for VP and not Sarah Palin.

Sorry Mitt.................better luck next time !

Cathy   September 3rd, 2008 10:28 pm ET

Agree, an empty speech. They are obviously appealing to the conservatives at the convention but how does this play out to the TV audience? I've heard a lot of bashing but few concrete facts on "how" they are going to improve our country.

Breck   September 3rd, 2008 10:28 pm ET

I didn't use to hate the man... But now.... Jesus Christ... Giuliani I actually had some respect for due to his handling of 9/11 but he is STILL stuck in that day. And has anyone asked him where he thinks the terrorists that attacked us that day are? I bet he would answer Iraq because he has been brainwashed by Republican propaganda.

Bud   September 3rd, 2008 10:28 pm ET

Between him and Gulliani...I don't think we need to say anything.

As a young person it is 100% disgusting to see how a whole party can blatantly lie on tv. I know it is part of the political process to twist facts, but this is just outright crazy.

Obama should respond once and fly above it.
More of the same.
McCain the maverick had a shot at appealing to independents, but all he has done is create one of the greatest schisms in American politics.

Matthew   September 3rd, 2008 10:28 pm ET

Dia, I hear you. Unfortunately, the voters are a bunch of non-critical thinkers that have no concept of what's going to happen at home and abroad should McCain become the President with Palin the Lady in Waiting.

All the voters want to do is figure out which one they want to have at their BBQ and have a beer with.

I can't believe Giuliani and the Repubs would use 9/11 to further their political ambitions. Shocked, completely shocked. What a dope. Shameful Republicans. Same hatful tactics, pandering to the uneducated who will listen to anyone who give a fire and brimstone speech.

Paul, will you please put an end to this ridiculous argument about executive experience by pointing out that GWB was the governor of a large state for 5 years. We all know how that turned out. And how the heck can the republicans just say Obama was a community organizer. Harvard degree in law and political science, President of Harvard Law Review, actually studied and taught CONSTITUTIONAL LAW, state senate, senate, senate foreign relations committee. Michael   September 3rd, 2008 10:26 pm ET

Mitt Romney wants to return to Regan’s trickle down economics, which we all learned the hard way, did not work. The Republicans have no record to run on with the Bush Administration so they have to go all the way back to the Regan Administration to try and make a point. It seems odd to me that the only thing the Republicans have to go in is fear and smear. It is odd to me that they want to tout Palin’s executive experience, news flash! Bush had executive experience, we all see where that has got us, his daddy had VP experience for 8 years and we see what that got us. Give me a break on the executive experience argument because it does not work, I do not buy it and if other’s are smart they will not buy it either, it is an argument that can be slapped down to quick with our current President.

Hannah Storm   September 3rd, 2008 10:26 pm ET

So, I'm an HR analyst and I'm faced with a job candidate with the following:

-Prone to flashbacks from terrifying captivity in Vietnam (what will he do at 3 am?)
-Elderly, with several recent bouts of cancers
-Unable to lift his arms above his shoulders
-An affinity for pretty young things
-Frequent memory loss, perhaps due to early onset Alzheimer's

Should I hire him? Well...maybe for a greeter job at WalMart but not as my president!

What!?!   September 3rd, 2008 10:25 pm ET

The once respected republican party has fallen hard.
The mccain campaign and convention are both shameless.

Men I once respected, Rudy, Mitt, Fred, and Huckabee, have fallen from grace and have joined the ranks of "political pundits with no honor."

According to the macain campaign this election is not about policy!
So, how much lower are these people going to sink before they drown.

John McCain is not an honorable man – he uses lies and shameless attack ad instead of standing tall on truth.

I am watching RNC Convention with stunning disbelief. I am absolutely amazed by the amount of hate pouring out from the people claiming to be the only righteous Americans in the country. Their brainwashed fear-mongering make me really afraid of one possible outcome of these elections: that they can actually win!

I have to say the one thing Rudy red meat speech has done tonight is fired up a political party but, it's not the one he was speaking to tonight. The Democrats will wipe the floor with them. It will be such a nice day not to hvae to deal with these folks who talk and don't do nothing. The GOP will do anything to win the office. The dog and pony show is nothing but a lot of hot air. This party should be disband!!!

Democrat Abroad looking for respect   September 3rd, 2008 10:23 pm ET

The GOP is pandering and low-balling. Dems went out of their way to show respect to McCain the man and differentiate between the politics of the man. To attempt to imunge the integrity of Obama is tantamount to feeding into latent racism. Leave it to the party of Helms, Lott, and Romney, Rove, Bush, Rumsfeld, and Cheney.

It was a shameful night for Mitt Romney, aside if he recognized it or not. He had no substance in his speech, just jarrings. It is also a shame that a Mormon with high moral values and high respect for family values, he attacked Barack's family and lauded Sarah Palin, whose failed teaching got her daughter into the mess of pre-marital sex. What a shame on you, Mitt. You have hurt Mormons like me to the bottom of our hearts.

This just proves that Mitt is NOT all "lovey dovey" about John McCain's VP Pick. He's very PISSED FOR BEING DISSED. Bottom line.

All these men up there at the podium smiling and talking nonsense, knowing full well they were ALL dissed by their boy, John McCain.

Disappointing. When he quit the race, I remember remarking that he succumbed to the old boy network in the Republican Party.
