The night designed to re-introduce McCain and highlight service seemed to have a 20th-century focus.

ST. PAUL, Minnesota (CNN) - The first full night of the Republican convention's hurricane-interrupted proceedings had the unintentional feel of a valedictory.

Speeches by President Bush and first lady Laura Bush, which failed to mention administration achievements on the top issue of the cycle - the economy - seemed airlifted out of 2004.

The hagiographic series of video tributes to Republican presidents past, from Abraham Lincoln to Theodore Roosevelt to Ronald Reagan, contributed to the impression of a nostalgia-fueled convention.

On a night devoted to service, convention planners managed to make time for a special "Tribute to Deceased Republican Leaders." Missing, however, were prime-time speakers with new policy proposals to encourage Americans to serve their country.

President Bush was treated as a leader in exile - allotted just six minutes on the schedule and beamed in via satellite from halfway across the country. But if the party's current leader was a footnote in the proceedings, embattled presumptive vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin - as much a rallying cry as a candidate - was at their center.

Honestly, my root canals were a LOT more exciting than the RNC!!

I mean talk about BORING, FLAT, UN-INSPIRING, OLD, TIRED and LIVING IN THE PAST......CONVENTION.

We saw nothing but OLD WHITE MEN and WOMEN in the crowd cheering on speakers who were boring as hell with their speeches. George Bush's speech was laughable because we ALL know he hates John McCain. Give us a break!

Fred Thompson, his speech was lackluster. Who cares what this OLD has-been ACTOR thinks? Me thinks, he needs to stick to acting.

Joe Lieberman..... GOOD LORD could this "old foggie" come up with anything "ORIGINAL" Can anyone at the RNC? Joe "Lame"berman sounded like an old record from the 1960's that kept repeating the same thing because it was scratch. We're tired of hearing the same "song and dance" from the "Oldies but not-so-goodie" anymore.

Cindy McBarbie Doll – her speech was like watching sand in a "time bottle". VERY slow and painful. She has so much makeup on, I surprise she could even talk! Come on, Cindy, your not "young woman", you need let go of the 50's hairstyles and that caked on makeup. It makes you look like a stiff and scary.

Soon.... we'll be hearing from Rudy Gulliani and Sarah Palin...

Lord helps us...Rudy Gulliani needs to go home to his mistress wife and let sleeping OLD DOGS die peacefully.

NOW.... everyone is talking about Sarah Palin's speech. The RNC is claiming her speech is going to be the highlight of the night. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Her speech is not written by HER. The McCain camp won't even let her out of her hotel room and she's NOT allowed to speak in public unless the McCain camp says so. What does this tell us. Gov. Palin has NO VOICE, she has NO SAY and she definitely has NO authority in the McCain camp. This is exactly what John McCain wants. He wanted a woman he can dominate and control. Isn't that John McCain's MO?

She didn't even WRITE HER OWN SPEECH. Karl Rowe wrote her speech, Bush's attack dog.

I think that just about sums it up folks!

Did anyone notice the lack of variety in the GOP convention hall?

I think I saw one black, two hispanics, no asians...and all were a bunch of old people. The Dems convention reflected ALL of America.

Now, if we can get all these Americans to get out and vote, the country will have a chance at fixing our issues before they get worse.

Far left Liberals and Far right Conservatives are both extremes we do not need running our country. They belong on city and county level offices. All state and national offices should be held by moderates. Moderates are the only politicians in this country will enough sense to see both sides of an issue and work out a sensical compromise.

Everyone else is crazy.

c-span for truth   September 3rd, 2008 10:59 am ET

this election is a load of MANURE, not one of these peoples choice is worth the effort to choose. on one stage are the Dems, Obama is sacred can't say anything about him the truth is Barack pushed to have a 3.2 million for Bidens son who is a loobiest, and Biden put on the ticket so bitter white guys and woman will vote for BOBO. and then there is McCain, he loves the wealthy and won't raise their taxes, with the Moose Skinner, that is really a piss poor example of a beauty queen with more ambition than record. LIKE I SAID THIS ELECTION IS A SERIOUS LOAD OF MANURE. PEEEEEEEEUUUUUUUUUU

Irma in North Carolina   September 3rd, 2008 10:58 am ET

The way we were translates in to the way we will be is another 4 more years of Bush. They are making such deal of pailan daughter she is not running for the office. They should make a deal of Mccain committing adultry and wanting somebody with those kind of morals in our white house.

Maggie Muggins From Selwyn   September 3rd, 2008 10:57 am ET

The best thing that could happen to the GOP is if McCain gets swamped in November's election. If this would happen then maybe the GOP would re-tool and forget about the extemist evangelicals and their platform of the 18th century.

Watching the entire McCain campaign and now the convention it is obvious to anyone who can think for themselves they are in a terrible rut of past practices that just don't apply to or deal with modern societies in the 21st Century.

It's time for the GOP spin masters to quit trying to cloud over the issues with slander and twisted truths and come out with a modern program and policies to benefit America and it's citizens.

Being the proud Daughter-in-law of a Fine American Hero who has 2 Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star , and who was a personal friend and served with Audie Murphy in WWII. I feel, as does my family , very strongly about war and so did my Father-in-law. His words"Only when it is absolutely necessary". Last night seemed so HOPELESS. You called it " The way we Were", I fear "The way WE will be" All the Republicans talk about is WAR, FEAR, TERROR, Frankly, last night was most upsetting and quite boring...it was offensive and not to mention Colorless.

haas   September 3rd, 2008 10:56 am ET

Fred Thompson is funny. His lackluster campaign in the primaries was a joke. Now this is the best speaker the Reps can come up wih. Not once have they touched on the issues plagueing this country. Thier only argument issue is pro-life, pro-life, pro-life. What about education, infrastructure, jobs etc.? Republicans and Evangelicals do not care about this country. They only care about their agenda. How unAmerican!!

The Republicans ran a CULT LIKE convention night last night. They made it sound and look like if your not a Republican you are not wanted. INDEPENDENTS AND UNDECIDED REPUBLICANS AND DEMOCRATS – BEWARE............................................................................

WellOrganized   September 3rd, 2008 10:53 am ET

The RNC is well organized despite the urgency of the Gustav. The speeches lastnight were energized and to the point. It did not have all of fanfare of the DNC which is not needed but looks good.

I will be watching Palin speak tonight.

I also loved when they chanted USA! It makes me proud because that's what we're about and that's why we're all here.

jeanette   September 3rd, 2008 10:52 am ET

I'm telling you – all the republicans have is the past.... they have no answers for the present or the future.
They stand for war, fear mongering, hate mongering, drilling oil here and there and everywhere, and making decisions for women.
They are shameful.
Vote for me because I was a pow – vote for me because my daughter didn't have an abortion.... yadda yadda yadda.
What about the rest of the country?
Vote smart, people, vote smart. Our country is at stake. Don't be taken in by John McDraft and TOKEN Palin.

Dianne from Africa   September 3rd, 2008 10:52 am ET

Americans, Americans, Americans . . . once the greatest nation on earth (even in my opinion) and now a bunch of sad, defensive Democrat supporters fighting tooth and nail to believe that Obama brings more experience to the TOP of the ticket than Palin does to the BOTTOM of the ticket. Your media is completely starstruck by Obama, to the point that "never let the facts get in the way of a good story" will become its mantra after this election.

TIME magazine's reporting has become as questionable as NYTimes, CNN and others . . . and here's me proud to be a writer! Oh – and can anyone tell me WHY Obama fans are so DEFENSIVE? If he's the best, you don't have to keep fighting people to believe in him!!

Bill   September 3rd, 2008 10:52 am ET

What a joke. Lincoln, TR and even Regan would not recognize this new version of the GOP. Completely taken over by religious zealots that are driving away rational thinking folks from the party. This is the party of hypercrits. I use to vote Republican, but can't anymore. Not with McCain's pick of Palin. Sorry.

How can you state that President Bush is being treated as a leader in exile? My gosh, he stayed in Washington because of the weather problems in the south.

In exile? The guy was supposed to speak, in person, on Monday. That's not being exiled.

Obama's coverage was all positive and your coverage of McCain is all negative.

Maybe CNN needs to just start billing itself as the propaganda dept of the DNC.

bridgette   September 3rd, 2008 10:48 am ET

This convention was a joke. Senior Bush couldn't wait to get out of there. They know McCain is an idiot but they have to save face. We have not begun to see half of the skeltons in this woman's closet. And now that you have a real investigative team down there "The National Enquirer" you will begin to see it all. That is why McCain and the RNC sent those twelve lawyers down there. They have already failed one test when they tried to stop the federal investigation on Palin and her husband.

Ty   September 3rd, 2008 10:47 am ET

Since when did Alaska become the 'heartland' of America. It's a frontier state with completely different issues than the other states.

Has someone informed Palin on what the VP does?

Cyrus K.   September 3rd, 2008 10:46 am ET

I was bored last night, so I turned on the TV to see the RNC and Fred Thompson. The most ironic thing is that, he criticized Barack Obama for "reading from a teleprompter", while reading from a teleprompter. I couldn't watch after that.

Did anyone see the re-run of "House" last night?

judge huck   September 3rd, 2008 10:43 am ET

Don't you notice, the more these republican "heavyweights" talk, the more their polls numbers come down.

Keep it up! you are doing Obama a big favor.

angry left from Michigan   September 3rd, 2008 10:42 am ET

If the Republicans had done anything good for the country over the past 8 years, John McCain could have run on their record. Instead he has to run as a "reformer"...when it's his party in charge!

The people at that convention are the ones who gave us 8 years of Bush & Cheney. Why are they so proud of themselves?

Cynthia   September 3rd, 2008 10:42 am ET

The most telling part of Thompson's speech was being a POW does not make you right for the Presidency – it is character. John McCain's character would be an interesting topic of discussion, as I see it that is all he has going for himself – the POW thing.

Steve Green   September 3rd, 2008 10:40 am ET

As soon as the Democrats gain more control of the Senate this November, they should ask Joe LieberMcCain to leave the caucus.

He should be ashamed of himself as a former Democrat for the lies he told last night!

**********please disregard first comment slight correction********
I am one of the over 20 million Canadian viewers who also have an interest in the election. I just want to warn the Democs and the Republics that over 250,000 Canadians do have a voice through many of our relatives and friends who live in USA, we are encouraging them to vote and choose wisely also we are still, still smarting from the fact that President Bush had never made an official state visit to Canada in all his 8 yr term and it "steams" from the fact that we had taken a stance against his Government on the war in Iraq. Because of this big snob, Canadians are encouraging US voters to VOTE for Senator Barack and the DEMOCS. History shows that Canada lead the world in Canada embracing changes, we are the most multicultural country in the world and choose to be involved in World Peace Keeping roles. One other personal observation as a black Canadian of Caribbean decent, I am appalled at the demographics of personnel that appears at the RNC, the barrage of elderly white male Republicans that takes the podium night after night shows how out of touch and ancient this party is, they have not shown the faces of change that America needs, as did the Democratic party. People's emotions are of such, as no more fighting, no more war, America needs healing, vision, promise, America needs a change of pace, America needs younger vibrant vision, Senator McCain is a good soldier, just as my father was in WW11 with the British Regiment, but a good solider never stands alone, he has his regiment who fights to keep each other alive in face of adversity, good soldiers don't die, they just fade away, I think Senator John McCain's and the RP ideals and vision is faded and outdated as evident in his choice of VP, I applaud Senator Obama for taking a stance of not offering a negative comment on Senator Palin's daughter pregnancy, but as a woman, mother and a pro-lifer my comment is simply put, that I will not trust a person to lead my country if she/he cannot show positive leadership in his/her own household, if you have your own teenage daughter out of control and cannot heed your wisdom and advice how can America trust their VP to use give same. Senator Palin is coming to this arena with too much baggage, she will not be focused on what is important "Leading America" the Republicans are trying to use her to try to win this election and will in time have to get rid of her as she will be too emotionally unstable to be a Vice President.

I watched last night and now I'm totally confused.
Who is the GOP nominee going to be – McCain or Palin?
If I understood all the spin correctly (along with the Rovian influnced campaign strategy of fear, smear, mock and lie) the repugs pronounced that Palin is better qualified to be POTUS than McCain – she has "exectutive experience" and all McCain has is POW experience.

Jim in Florida   September 3rd, 2008 10:32 am ET

Whatever you do, don't mention the economy. I'm very disappointed in this RNC convention after watching the Democratic Convention that was well planned, full of energy and hope for changing direction in this country. After panning the audience, I can understand why McCain picked Gov Palin, to keep the base from falling asleep. The GOP have proven the past 8 yrs that they cannot lead, govern nor balance a checkbook. It's not going to change if we elect Sen McCain.

The RNC is like a flea market with baby boomers huddling for a bargain – not like the Sen. Obama’s well run campaign and execptional convention which is more like Saks Fifth Avenue. With all due respect to the lady, she might be a breath of fresh air to the sorry lot of “has beens” but Sen. Obama is the real deal – a trade wind .

For the first time in my life I watch GOP Convention last night. My party painted the GOP as pure evil, I'm grateful to the DNC their Denver Convention have opened up my eyes, they're not the party I want to belong to or deserve my loyalty and financial contribution. I was a bleeding heart democrat, they've fooled me for so many years, I'm proud to say, I'm no longer a democrat.

I can't wait to cast my vote for McCain/Palin ticket in November. I want real change in Washington, Sarah Palin is way out of the beltway, she's the REAL CHANGE, REAL DEAL. McCain made the right choice, The heartland of America thinks of country first, I am with them.

Good Grief – how many pow stories do we need to hear? At least he came home – my family members didn't!!!!!
All the republicans have is drilling for oil, pro-life, and more wars and hate mongering.
We need to move to the present and the future, and we need Barack Obama to take us there!

The way we were, with Tom DeLay and Jack Abramoff working to create the Permanent Republican Majority (Dictatorship) that Attny Gnl Gonzalez was more than happy to implement by suspending Habeus Corpus and firing Federal Prosecuters who were too loyal to the Constitution. Then there was Dennis Hastert and Rick Santorum were working hard to cover up Mark Foley's sexual solicitations of underage male pages in Congress rather than protecting these kids.

Now its okay to have pre-marital sex? Listen; you all have used God to advance you hateful anti-Christ agenda, but God is not mocked, this whole Palin choice for VP is to divert attention from the real issues of the day. What is going on in the Palin Household is called "Real-life" to which the Republican party is seemingly 30 plus years late on. How pathetic?

The republicans are done, stick a fork in them. I pity John McCain because he is the sacrificial lamb for the neo-cons who know they have no chance of winning in November. This is just plain wrong because John's heart may be too weak to absorb the shock and sadness of losing to Obama.

How many more jokers are there.

The fact that this young girl is with child should not become a big issue. The lives of children should not be dragged thru the ploitical MUD. The fact that teen pregnancy is so high in the USA does not mean that this situation should be something to be PROUD OF. For a person that proclaims to be so Religous she shows huge lack of MORALs Maybe Palin was just too busy hunting and fishing to take the time to be a GOOD MOHTER and be there for her daughter to instill the true family values.

Any political party that tries to use a pregnant girl to squeez votes is contemptable

Phil in KC   September 3rd, 2008 10:10 am ET

No wonder they're nostalgic. We all yearn for the good old days – like the 90's.
Palin's speech tonight had better be one hell of a speech. Because this lady is out of her league and, for someone who has been in office for such a short time, she brings a lot of baggage with her. The Republican base only likes her because she touts their ultra-right wing propaganda. If she were a Democrat, they would be having a field day. And the spin they're putting on this is making me dizzy. I hope Biden makes mincemeat out of her.
I cannot believe they're calling her more experienced than Obama. Let's review:
Obama – Harvard Law Review
Palin – Miss Alaska Pageant (she didn't win)
Obama – State Senator in a district that has a population nearly the size of the entire state of Alaska.
Palin – Mayor of Wasilla, AK – pop. 9870
Obama – Senator serving on multiple committees for 4 years; sponsor or cosponsor on several important pieces of legislation.
Palin – Governor of AK for 2 years; gave back the 'bridge to nowhere' (which was a PR nightmare anyway).
Obama – won his nomination by competing all across the country and garnering the most votes.
Palin – picked by her running mate after a 15 minute meeting.
Besides, if they want to make comparisons, they need to compare her to Biden – he's the VP candidate. Who's better qualified to take over the presidency? No contest there.
One last thought: Thompson called Obama one of the least experienced presidential candidates ever. I guess he forgot about that guy named Abraham Lincoln. He had half the experience of Obama and he did pretty good job. But they don't want to talk about that.

After watching some of the Republican convention last night, I think they could make a new movie called "Grumpy Old Men Go to Washington".

Mary from NC   September 3rd, 2008 10:05 am ET

Thompson was correct last night- Palin IS a breath of fresh air. I am a 29 year old female who supports McCain/Palin. Most people on these boards claim to be sooo tired of negative attacks by the Republicans, yet, the people on these boards do nothing but personally attack McCain and Palin. I am so tired of the whiny Dems. Obama is a great speaker, full of charisma, however, that is where it ends. Dems are attacking Palin for her daughter's pregnancy- but why not question Obama's ties to Rev. Wright, and terrorism? The Dems just want a feel good candidate, someone who tells them what they want to hear, regardless of his lack of experience and integrity.

This is a party of the privilege all gathered in there office suits to conduct the business of screwing up the economy in favor of themselves. Sara Palin wants in, John McCain wants the key to the Republican bathroom and George Bush wants and hopes to be lied about just as Ronald Regan was. I remember the trickle down theory and how hard it was to find a job with even a college degree; I remember the welfare rolls growing and the rapid growth in unwed pregnancies. All the effects of the Regan Administration on the common people. The Republican motto obviously is – if you say it enough like you believe it then so will everyone else that counts.

Obama vs. Columbo (I wish)

Ah . . . Sorry to bother you Mr. Obama, Sir
Excuse me Mr. Obama, I mean Senator Obama, sir. Um . . . know you are busy and important and stuff. I mean running for president is very important and . . . ah . . . I hate to bother you. I will only take a minute ok, sir?

See, I have these missing pieces that are holding me up, and I was wondering sir, if you could take time out of your busy schedule and help me out. You know, no big deal, just some loose ends and things.

Hey, you have a nice place here! The wife sees houses like this on TV all the time and says boy she wishes she had digs like this you know? Is that painting real? Really? Wow. I saw something like that in a museum once!

Oh, sorry sir. I didn't mean to get off the track. So if you could just help me out a minute and give me some details, I will get right out of your way. I want to close this case and maybe take the wife to Coney Island or something. Ever been to Coney Island ? No, I didn't think so. .
.
Well, listen, anyways, I can't seem to get some information I need to wrap this up. These things seem to either be 'locked' or 'not available'. I'm sure it's just some oversight or glitch or something, so if you could you tell me where these things are . I . . . have them written down here somewhere . . . oh wait. Sorry about the smears. It was raining out. I'll just read it to you.

Could you help me please find these things, sir?

Anonymous   September 3rd, 2008 10:02 am ET

In Thompson's speech last night, he conveniently left out that McCain was INDEED treated for his medical injuries.

The following is McCain's own admission of collaboration in an article he wrote, printed May 14, 1973 in U.S. News and World Report:

"I think it was on the fourth day [after being shot down] that two guards came in, instead of one. One of them pulled back the blanket to show the other guard my injury. I looked at my knee. It was about the size, shape and color of a football. I remembered that when I was a flying instructor a fellow had ejected from his plane and broken his thigh. He had gone into shock, the blood had pooled in his leg, and he died, which came as quite a surprise to usa man dying of a broken leg.

Then I realized that a very similar thing was happening to me.

"When I saw it, I said to the guard, `O.K., get the officer.'

"An officer came in after a few minutes. It was the man that we came to know very well as `The Bug.' He was a psychotic torturer, one of the worst fiends that we had to deal with. I said, `O.K., I'll give you military information if you will take me to the hospital.'"

McCain claims it was only a coincidence that, about the same time he was begging to be taken to a hospital, the Vietnamese learned his father was Admiral John S. McCain, Jr., commander of all U.S. forces in Europe and soontobe commander of all U.S. forces in the Pacific, including Vietnam.

McCain has admitted that he survived only because the Vietnamese learned who his father was and rushed him to a hospital where his wounds were eagerly treated. He has also conceded that the Vietnamese repeatedly threatened to withhold much needed operations unless he would give them information.

The former POW admitted in the U.S. News and World Report article that the Vietnamese usually left other U.S. prisoners with similar wounds to die, not wishing to waste medication on them. McCain pointed out "there were hardly any amputees among the prisoners who came back because the North Vietnamese just would not give medical treatment to someone who was badly injured. They weren't going to waste their time."

looking forward to Palin's speach tonight, because she is "exciting". ( word used often on tuesday night)....was it me or was the even BIGGER word that seemed to slip under the radar was "the supreme court". i think i actually saw thompson's eyes turn red when he mentioned "the supreme court" ... ladies, PUMA's expecially.... the holier then thou republican base... want Roe v. Wade reversed.... 4 more years in the white house and that will be acomplished. think about the constitutional laws that "W" has ... um bent, add in 1 maybe 2 more very conservitive justices.... and the Puritians are back.

Typical White Person   September 3rd, 2008 10:02 am ET

W was given a token speaking spot out of respect for the OFFICE, not the man. Sheesh, you would think a "Political Editor" would be able to figure that one out...

The bias is just monumentally astounding at CNN and MSNBC. How can anyone with a grain of sense watch the interviews and commentary and NOT see it?

CNN is questioning her fitness for VICE president but has never questioned Obama's fitness for PRESIDENT. Look at the record of public service below and answer me one question. Why not?

Barack Obama
Illinois State Senator 1997 -2004
Senator 2004 – Feb 2006
Presidential Candidate 2007 – present

Sarah Palin
City Council 1992 – 1996

Chair & Ethics Supervisor Alaskan Oil and Gas Conservation Commision 2003 – 2004
Governor 2006 – present

Same old attack politics to scare the dummies who don't read news papers and don't ever leave their little towns. They get a tired old loser who ran an absolutely worthless campaign to get up and talk about an old grumpy attack dog in McKeating.

Come on people ! This country is in trouble with a LOT of issues on the plate, and you all want to walk down memory lane?

We need to plan and move forward. Enough of 1960, 1980 – that's gone – squandered on a senseless war and an economy in shambles. High unemployment, American children going hungry.

Let's MOVE FORWARD FOR the American People. Not the party, not other countries. WE ARE IN TROUBLE HERE.

On another note And I quote – "Only in a Repuglican America is a Black man who is a Harvard Educated Constitutional Law Scholar, with 8yrs as State Senator and 4 yrs as US Senator who has run a brilliant and ultra successful progressive campaign not ready to lead but a white ultra conservative woman with a BS in journalism and 19 mos as Governor ready on day one…"
Disgusting!

How much more of this pseudo stars, stripes and apple pie rhetoric set on spin cycle will we hear at the Republican ten-gallon hate festival? What we have today is merely what Bill Clinton described as true Republican values actually put into policy.

The blame for the failing economy, the dependence on foreign loans and oil, the quagmire of a costly and ineffective illegal war in Iraq and the irreparable damage to the position of the United States in the world falls solely on the Bush/Cheney administration, the Republican Party and its ‘values’ voters. It’s their fault and it’s their fault alone.

Thank You GOP!!!!

T GUY   September 3rd, 2008 9:55 am ET

Only a small portion of this country is still so aggressive. When will the republicans figure out if we stop action tough as a nation things will be more subdued. I thing they don't want peace. To stay in power it will benefit the repubs to advocate war. But the people that pay are the innocent kids. PLEASE AMERICA DON'T PUT THE REPUBS BACK INTO POWER.

OBAMA........08

What?   September 3rd, 2008 9:53 am ET

Important Issues QUESTION: if it has taken Palin and her advisors over two days to prepare her speech for tonight, What will she do if she is ALONE (without these advisors) at 3am in the morning and needs to make a life threaten decision for us and our Country??????

Write-In Hillary………….Do you honestly think you are helping Clinton become President of by voting for McCain VP pick (male or Female)? If so, please take a minute and think. 1. Why would McCain pick a woman this election when he flaunted men for weeks? 2.Why would the GOP go after your votes if they are not going to use them against Hillary in 2012? 3. Would the GOP allow Hillary a chance to beat a woman that has groomed to lie, cheat and mislead you in 2008? 4. Is the Republican party going to let Hillary be President after selling the ideal that their candidate made history? 5. Will McCain and camp not use Palin experience as VP and maybe President to beat Hillary in 2012? 6. Will they use Hillary campaign finances problems in 2008, against her so the White House continue with a GOP in office? 7. Her supporters will be used as their (GOP) escape goat to excuse the way they will treat and degrade her in 2012.

Just imagine what they will come up with in 2012...……….

If there is any negative comments posted, it's just them pretending to be DEMOCRATS........WE WILL LET THEIR HIRED BLOGGERS, WORD FIGHT AGAINST THEMSELVES.......Please let any of our fellow Democrats be informed of this.......Because a Change is COMING.......

NativeHonor   September 3rd, 2008 9:53 am ET

Why does everyone get so embroiled in the hype and supposed personalities every four years? Both sides have campaign people who lie...that's their job...and they're good at it. Just look beyond that. Look at each candidate with an open mind, research their records, and discern the truth for yourselves. If you can't do that, you probably don't need to be voting anyway.

Bulldog   September 3rd, 2008 9:52 am ET

Nobody knows Sarah Palin yet. Even the Republicans and John McCain himself don't know her. This just proves McCain is dangerous with this CRAZY pick. More and more of the truth is coming out on Palin who was picked because she was a so called reformer.

She is not a reformer but rather a fraud due to the following:

-As mayor of Wasilla, population 5700 at that time, she hired a lobby firm to help her get $27 million dollars in federal earmarks from 2000-2003.

-As governor of Alaska the state received $570 million and $200 million dollars in federal earmarks which John McCain is against.

-In 2002 Palin received $4500 from the same firm that has gotten Senator Steven indited for a felony and is under FBI investigation.

-Sarah Palin's gubernatorial administration illegally possessed confidential files of her ex brother-in-law.

-Palin is under a state investigation for abuse of power and recently hired a private lawyer who is authorized to spend up to $95000 to defend her.

Palin is clearly a fraud on the ISSUES she supposedly was picked on.
Where is the judgement now?????

Outdated policies, outdated achievements, outdated people. Change is the last issue you can expect from them.

Kelby from Houston, TX   September 3rd, 2008 9:51 am ET

I actually tried to watch the GOP convention last night. It was my second ernest attempt to listen to what they had to say. I failed. I could not watch these people. It was so fake. I really was disappointed that there were no apologies, from any of the speakers I heard, for the failed policies of the last 8 years. AND, it sounded like they still believed that they were the right choice for America. So sad.

McCain = Bush 3rd Term   September 3rd, 2008 9:49 am ET

McCain's campaign is operating as if this is America – 20, 30, or 40 years or so ago. His temperament and ideas are totally obsolete for the office of President in 2009.

james   September 3rd, 2008 9:48 am ET

Only clinging to the past, are the republicans. They have no agenda other than to try and knock down Obama. Fred Thomson's claim that Obama's going to raise all these taxes on businesses, is just more of the same from these tired acts. Obama is going to just enforce and simplify our tax code, and make everyone pay their fair share, and get the burden back off the back of everyone and evenly distribute it. Follow the money..follow the money..follow the money. The money financing Obama's campaign is coming straight from the people. Now again..follow the money .... it's the people who will win this time..not the same old game where the rich get richer. Those who stand to have their taxes increased with Obama talk about taxing their hard work. It's not THEIR hard work that's earning the money and not paying the tax, it's their money making the money. Let's just have some balance back people!

Obama Biden 08!

I Peter, chaper 2, verses 17-19:

[17] These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever.
[18] For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.
[19] While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.
