Biden: 'Barack has real experience'

Biden has been on the road defending Obama's record.

(CNN) - Sen. Joe Biden on Wednesday defended criticism of running mate Barack Obama’s Senate record while campaigning in the crucial battleground state of Florida.

“Barack has real experience,” the Democratic VP candidate said. “This guy could have written his ticket to go anywhere. Anywhere at all.”

Biden was speaking at a campaign event focused on the economy in Fort Myers, Florida and discuessed Obama’s stance on the war in Iraq, his work on ethics reform in the Senate, and his proposals on solving the energy crisis. Biden also explicitly dismissed Senator John McCain’s experience in the Senate.

“30 years of bad experience ain’t worthwhile experience,” he said. “You’re not going to take your car—you’re not going to take your car back to a mechanic who for 30 years in a row has screwed it up.”

Biden himself has spent 36 years in the Senate. McCain has worked in Congress since 1982, serving in the Senate since 1987.

Biden was specifically responding to comments McCain aide Rick Davis made to The Washington Post earlier this week when he predicted that this election will come down to each candidates' personas.

"This election is not about issues," Davis said to The Post. "This election is about a composite view of what people take away from these candidates."

Biden sharply criticized that statement, citing the country's economic woes.

“Not about issues?” Biden said. “Well, let me tell you, that means to them this election is not about you being able to scrape up the tuition money to send your kid off to college this September. It's not about whether or not you're going to fill up your gas tank.”

McCain was a poor student in military college and in flight school. He lost 3 planes. He didn't do his homework 40 years ago and he still doesn't do his homework. McCain didn't do his homework when he authorized the war in Iraq against non-existent WMDs and wants to remain there for 100 years, while threats grow and problems fester in Afghanistan, Iran and now Russia occupying parts of Georgia ... and McCain says "We are all Georgians." He didn't do his homework when he selected Palin to stand infor him as VP.

McCain may be a good soldier (even though he lost 3 planes and his freedom) but he is no leader! Like nero fiddling while Rome burns, McCAIN FIDDLES AWAY 4,080 AMERICAN LIVES WHILE FIRES BURN IN AFGHANISTAN, IRAN AND GEORGIA. Doesn't the US deserve better than that?

I believe Palin was brought in (with her family) to be a distraction from US Citizen's issues.

Notice the real issues have fallen by the wayside? We're being played by the Rovian/Limbaugh play-book.

    No more wars.

Censoring an AMERICAN again rebecca? You do it every time.

McCain does not have the experience or niether does the one he chose as a running mate where do you get experience in a small town of 9000, that is not what we need, that would be worse than what we just came through and my family can not take that and we won't

Why did Obama begin his Political Career at the house of Terrorist Bill Ayers?

Why did Obama funnel millions of dollars to convicted felon Tony Rezko?

Why did Obama listen to hate speech for twenty years in the Church of Rev Wright?

Why would anyone think this guy should be president?

Biden must think this is Last Comic Standing. What a riot!! What an absolute moron!!

Obama has experience, alright...he's had experience living with POOR JUDGMENT his whole life!! Ayers, Wright, Phleger, Rezco...who needs enemies when you have friends like these. Why, oh why does the media not care enough to help vet the Democrat candidate?

Thankfully O'Reilly is interviewing Obama on Thursday. That should be a real riot. Then again, I can only imagine how many "ummms" and "ahhhhs" will plague the transcript.

Do you people forgot that Obama is a Constitutional Lawyer. Don't you want a President that has clear understanding of the Constitution unlike George Bush and Dick Cheney. People just don't vote for Obama because he is a good speaker. But it would be nice to have four years of a President that can articulate clearly to the American people instead of John McCain & George Bush senile mutterings.

    – Presidental Experience -
How does one go about get it? Perhaps a former Prez could enlighten us, or what about "PREZ University", you know the one in DC that everyone is talking about.

Please someone and anyone, help me out here....

I think we need to move away from that "Obama has no Experience issue". It has ran it's course.

Bottom line is: CHANGE IS NATURAL, so let's step aside and let it happen.

"This election is not about issues," Davis said to The Post. "This election is about a composite view of what people take away from these candidates."

This statement by the McCain camp is EXACTLY why we can't take 4 more years of the same crap. What idiot says that- and worse yet- believes it.

IT IS ABOUT ISSUES JOHN MCCAIN- IT IS JUST THAT YOU ARE NOT DEALING WITH THE ISSUES AND OBAMA IS!!!!

    Idiots. Plain and SImple.

My step father has been and is a Mayor in a small town in Kansas. It's not hard to get to be one in small towns. You basically have to show up and say you want to do it. Not much qualification for VP or President in that.

As for governor, I believe they have more executive experience than senators, generally. But, they also generally lack any national or international experience applicable to the Presidency of the USA. They are totally parochial in their thinking and wear blinders to a fault. The Senator has the advantage here.

So, it comes down to ability, judgment, values, and policy.

Palin is a zero when compared to Obama or, more to the point, Biden. She makes Obama appear to be John Addams in comparison and cannot hold a candle to Biden.

McCain's judgment is now completely suspect and needs to be questioned at every turn. His actions are speaking louder than his words or his record.

I believe America is being gamed by the Republicans. They are testing us to see just how much BS we will put off with and still vote them in office.

What a cruel and extremely dangerous joke they have become. Laughingstock to the world is their legacy for us.

    Obama or McCain?

With Bush, we went from dumb to dumber as a nation.

With McCAin and his senior moments, we'll all be lost in translation, not wanting to do anything for our country. We'll all be un-inspired.

With Obama, he's not the best, but at least, he'll draw talents in America to help build America.

With Hillary, she'll take us to the moon, but the DEMO were too stupid to pick her as Prez.

Good luck America! We're going to need a lot of it.

According to the Republicans, the village of Wasilla and the state of Alaska equates to the world and all its complex problems. Ergo, Sarah Palin is supremely qualified to lead our nation because Wasilla, Alaska represents our world. It's a small world Republicans live in because they believe its always their way or no way.

I guess Biden is lying when he says that obama has experience. And Obama lies through his teeth when he says that McCain doesn't get it.

I am shocked that both Democrats are lying. Biden said that Obama was not ready to lead and I have to agree with him. Joe you can't have it both ways. Hillary said that Obama gave a speech once, but that is not the experience we need for a commander in chief.

Palin is older than Teddy Roosevelt when he became President. And she is a sitting Governor with a budget of billions of dollars. Obama gave a speech once and no budget experience. Palin is a Commander in Chief, but Obama has never even been in the military. He has no experience.

Obama gave a speech once and Biden said Obama was not ready to lead. That is the truth.

Mr. Obama, Let me tell you, "eloquence is no substitute for your poor record." By the way, why don't you help out your Bro who is living in a hovel in Kenya? You live in a million dollar home and he lives in a shed.

Why not share your wealth with your bro?

I have a question about republicans. so many people say the repbulicans are pro-life. Well, if repbulicans are pro-life then why are they pro-war and pro-death penalty. There appears to be a disconnect.

Her executive experience as council member and mayor were part time jobs. I doubt if she expended more than 12 hours during a normal week.

Sen. McCain wants to run on the personalities of the pres. canidates and their vp picks. I have watchrd very closely to all the public videos
of both and their running mates. The one thing that has stood out is that McCain only smile and looks in the eye of people in his circle of friends. Whenever he is shown with everyday people of middle to poor
he is always looking around not smiling and like he would rather be somewhere else. On the other hand Obama has always had a smile on his face for people from all walks of life everywhere he goes, looks them in the eyes and listens intently on what thy are saying. If McCain want to run on personality, He Is Losing.

With Palin, what disturbed me was that she is only a governor and she has already exercised firing people for not listening to you. She's so very female.

I hate WORKING for female bosses. They're evil, more evil than MEN.

I've watched the speeches from both conventions and it is obvious that the Democrats are pushing fear onto the American public. They hope to convince people how bad the economy is/will be and hope that the people just ignore the facts.

If our economy was so bad then I'd expect the cable and dish service companies to be loosing money and people getting laid off- since the Democrats believe people are having such a hard time paying their mortgage. Surely people who are complaining that times are so tough and they can't afford food, gas, house payment would drop the non-essentials in their life the same way all the other generations prior to ours have. Or maybe they just feel cable TV is a "right" just like they think health insurance (paid by someone else) is.

YEAH I AM GOING TO BELIEVE WHAT JOE HAS TO SAY ABOUT OBAMA AND EXPERIENCE.

DID EVERYONE FORGET THE FAMOUS COMMERCIAL THE GOP SENT OUT ON WHAT BIDEN SAID ABOUT OBAMA.

AT LEAST MCCAIN AND PALIN ARE ON THE SAME PAGE – OBAMA'S RUNNING MATE THINKS DOESNT HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE.

HA HA HA – ANYTHING BIDEN SAYS ABOUT THIS WILL BE A LAUGHING MATTER!

Obama does not have as much experience as Palin. That is very plain to see. What has Obama done that has been of any importance? Will someone please tell me.

I was for Hillary because she put rings around Obama, but the dem. party saw to it that a women would never be on the ticket. Did not even consider her for VP and she obvioulsy has experience and should have been the one the ticket.

Now that McCain has a women as VP the dems. are trying to discredit her. I think Palin is going to give everyone a run for their money. She is qualified to be VP and as far as being President, well, McCain is the one with the experience needed for that position. If something happened to McCain could she lead, of course she could. Obama came on the scene as virtually a nobody with no experience, so where do you dems. get off saying Palin could not lead.

You just still do not want a "woman" on a ticket, any ticket. Well, you just might have to get used to the idea "you good ole boys"!!!

  24. Fact Checker

The title of this article says that Biden believes Obama has "real experience" yet fails to list a single experience. Here is Obama's experience:

1996 – Obama challenged through the courts to disqualify not only the incumbent but three other challengers to cede the 13th district seat of the Illinois state senate. Alice Palmer, the incumbent had originally anointed Obama to her seat before unsuccessfully running for US Congress. She tried to retain her 13th district seat, but Obama filed court procedures nullifying her attempt to retain her seat. Alice Palmer supported Hillary Clinton in the 2008 campaign.

2000 – Prior to completing his first term as state senator, Obama campaigned for US Congress. He lost by greater than 50%.

2002 – Just two years later Obama decided to run for the 2004 US Senate. Just prior to the election, fueled by Obama supporters, allegations of moral mis-conduct were made against his Republican candidate. The candidate withdrew, allowing Obama to run uncontested.

2004 – Before even serving 1 day as a US Senator, Obama delivered the 2004 keynote address at the Democratic National Convention.

2005 – Obama began his US Senate by immediately campaigning for the Democratic party. Obama criss-crossed the US taking advantage of his exposure from the 2004 DNC, and stumping for Democratic candidates.

2007 – Obama officially enters the Presidential campaign, continuing more of the same campaigning.
