Sarah Palin is set to speak at the RNC tonight at 10 p.m.

It's nowhere near a full house inside the stadium, but it will certainly fill up with delegates as "prime time" nears.

It doesn't look like they will be disappointed with the speech of John McCain's designated No. 2 Sarah Palin.

For sure, Sarah will not come quietly into this great convention hall. Excerpts include the following:

"Here's how I look at the choice Americans face in this election. In politics, there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers. And then there are those, like John McCain, who use their careers to promote change."

And this:

"I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a 'community organizer,' except that you have actual responsibilities."

Team McCain has called this a night to "more sharply define the differences" — that's political speak for "go after the other team."

careful how you bark, Biden's has the worst bite, he hasn't even drew his sword, when he does America be prepared they are going to paint those attacks as sexist, how dare he verbally attack a woman, well politics is the only arena where attacks on either sex is acceptable, These two are going to get torn apart

Dem   September 3rd, 2008 8:11 pm ET

""I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a 'community organizer,' except that you have actual responsibilities."" – that's SOOO sexist against a guy!

JK – so what's the difference between that and calling Obama sexist by pointing out that he's managed a team of 2500 and $30m monthly and her around 50 and $12m annually… and left in 20m debt?

John   September 3rd, 2008 8:10 pm ET

Its about issues and Repubs will loose on issues. Don't take the focus from the issues.

Carl Justus   September 3rd, 2008 8:09 pm ET

Palin and McCain both have resorted to trying to tear down for they do not have a plan to reduce the deficit, solve social security, bring our troops home instead of keeping them in Iraq for a hundred years.

Neither has any forsight to solve the problems of education, clean air and water, decrease global warming, or have a viable plan to get a fair price for the oil leases. In fact they are for giving the oil companies a 4 billion dollar tax cut while the oil companies profits are biggest in history and still rising.

McCain does not have a plan to fix the failed health system in this country.

McCain and Palin believe if they concentrate on tearing down Obama and Biden they will rise above them, but they will find that does not work, we want to knwo what their plans for the country are, we know what Obama's plan is let McCain tell us his. He has already said he knows nothing about the economy. He is running on wars and it necessary for him to win, Bush and Cheney will start a war with Iran or with the breakaway provinces of Georgia.

Barbara   September 3rd, 2008 8:09 pm ET

IF she attacks, vice versa is NOT sexist. I would never let anyone denigrate or belittle me without giving right back.

She'd better be VERY careful !!!!!!

NO Extremeright Palin 08   September 3rd, 2008 8:09 pm ET

She just needs to hit us once and then all glove will come off. She will have to take like a woman. Don't cry fault.

RR   September 3rd, 2008 8:09 pm ET

why is no one covering Biden's and Biden's sons' ties to the credit card and banking industry?

Bill Colorado   September 3rd, 2008 8:09 pm ET

It sure is fun reading how scared the Dems are over Palin.

Jean   September 3rd, 2008 8:09 pm ET

ALWAYS HITTING HARD, ALWAYS FIGHTING!!!!

DISGUSTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Andrew Dzeguze   September 3rd, 2008 8:09 pm ET

Don't belittle a man for choosing to make 15 k a year (with a Columbia degree) to help a depressed area: 1) open a job center; 2) fight city hall over asbestos contamination in public housing; 3) give people who had lost their jobs some dignity back. Oh yeah, he followed that up by getting over 100,000 new voters in Chicago in 1992. By comparison, Palin paid over 40k a year to lobbyists to get pork spending (yep, that very thing she's against) for Wasilla.

Also, her "business" experience is in seasonal fishing and sportscasting. Obama was a civil rights attorney and taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago, helping to mold a generation of bright attorneys. That is, he was exposed to problems and injustices that effect all Americans, not just the population of a tiny corner of Alaska.

Hillary Supporter   September 3rd, 2008 8:09 pm ET

Crowley,

How much is the McCain camp paying you? Did John promise you a secretary of defense position?

California Gold   September 3rd, 2008 8:09 pm ET

If she is trying to parley her experience as mayor as a position of responsibility she is a bold face liar. Her duties amounted to presiding over city council meetings, leading the annual holiday parades, ribbon cutting at the new convenience store and rubber stamping whatever staff and the city manager put in front of her nose. Her job was solely a figurehead position usually filled by someone who thinks they are important. What a doofus.

velmeezee   September 3rd, 2008 8:08 pm ET

Yes indeed, no matter what, truth prevails. This whole debacle is why republicans did not want to choose John McCain as the presidential nominee in the first place. Soon everyone will catch up to the real facts of why Sarah Palin has been thrust into the VP nominee spot. For all the talk about Obama being an empty suit with no plans, McCain is sure going all out to steal these "non-plans".
Everyone ask yourselves…what was Barack Obama doing in Alaska at the beginning of August? What was Alaska, Gov Palin included thinking about Sen Obama in July? Look it up. Hurry up before the truth gets burried in propaganda…

Jessica, DE   September 3rd, 2008 8:08 pm ET

Thanks for censoring me, CNN, why don't you put it through this time?

So will this be considered "racist" just like Obama's comments on Palin drew "sexist" cries from the G(reed)OP?

Rick K   September 3rd, 2008 8:07 pm ET

Interesting line of attack – the McCain camp was trying to preserve "victim" status for her, and she will cede that as she comes out swinging. Perhaps that's for the better.

It's similar message or narrative inconsistency to the "experience/freshness" shift.

It also is subtly telling about the ad hoc leadership style of the candidate and his organization – that IS the one thing that has been utterly consistent here.

What an exciting day for politics, a first for the republican party, a smart, experienced governor to rock the house tonight with more americans watching to find out who she is – Go Sarah

McCain=the draft   September 3rd, 2008 8:07 pm ET

I'm ready to vote and end this Jerry Springer show!

McCain should go home and retire, and Palin should go home and raise her kids.

Josie   September 3rd, 2008 8:07 pm ET

Palin is the most ridiculous choice I could imagine. I question the family values of someone who has a special needs baby and all the other children and chooses career first. Yes, her husband can care for the children, but I think that most people that have raised a Down's syndrome child will tell you that they need a loving environment, not raised by sitters and secret service. Her daughter's condition does not affect me, but the baby does. Then there is the fact that no matter how good her speech is, she is still not experienced in the international affairs. Do you think 20000 people would gather in Germany to hear her speak? Only if they needed a laugh.

Paul   September 3rd, 2008 8:06 pm ET

Some people are attracted to this type of marketing because a women could become President.
In my view, Mrs. Palin's family issues (pregnant daughter, and newborn) is sure to have a psychological impact on the Governor and her immediate family.

McCain, 72, hopefully will retire now.

lisafor obama   September 3rd, 2008 8:06 pm ET

I really feel for her. She was only picked because she is a woman and they think they will get those that voted for Hillary. Guess what! My friends and I were for Hillary and not we are fore Obama. Oh yes there is about 25 of us so take that off of the PUMA list. We are tired of being included in such madness.

RSB   September 3rd, 2008 8:05 pm ET

She's going to attack Barack and Mitt's attacking Michelle. When is McCain going to do his own dirty work? Can't wait until they start whining about sexism when the Democrats strike back.

It's on   September 3rd, 2008 8:05 pm ET

I hope she is ready to play hardball with Obama and Biden, then. There are also those candidates who can manage their kids, and those whose kids are obviously managing themselves.

Now I am just waiting for the New Yorker to feature a cartoon of Palin with her Miss Alaska Runner-Up Sash on holding an abstinence-only brochure with her pregnant daughter on the cover, and her drunk husband hurling in the corner.

anyonmous   September 3rd, 2008 8:05 pm ET

when can she slam hard on obama shes not helped mccain win oan state and that why mccain will losse this election

Silky Terrier K   September 3rd, 2008 8:05 pm ET

It isn't the media that is against her it is the AMerican voting public. His woman is in over her head. She cannot manage her family. There is no way the smart American voting public is going to allow McCain to be such a maverick and get us into a mess. No lose cannons for the "regular guys" voting public.
She doesn't represent most of America-she has limited appeal to a small section of the voting public. THis is too risky a gamble for America.

ES NYC   September 3rd, 2008 8:04 pm ET

Ok you heard it here first:

Sarah Palin tonight will show how bad of a speaker she is.
It will be a very poor delivery and you will be annoyed by her high pitched voice. The only persons she will convince are those already convinced of her qualifications.

However i predict she will do much much better when unscripted (when she delivers with her heart but not when she will use the sound bite phrases).

Anyway as most know (including Republicans) this election is pretty much over (if Obama keeps voter's turn out up).

Matt   September 3rd, 2008 8:04 pm ET

Here's what's going to happen. She is going to give a speach tonight that will be well received. She will come across strong, confident and somehow will convince some people that her history makes her ready for the position. The media will then feel guilty and will over-hype the speach in order to not sound like all they do is question her.

Hopefully the media will remember though that all of the questions that have been asked the last few days still have not been answered. McCain's staff still believes that she will "be ready for the position by the time of the election". They still said that she was chosen becuase this election "is not about the issues". They have kept her locked up the last few days doing nothing but prepare for tonight. She still has not answered 1 question about herself since being picked. Her next step will be to go to "boot camp" after her son leaves for Iraq in order to prepare her for the election, campaigning and Joe Biden. Hopefully the media will not cave in to McCain and will continue asking questions until we get all of the information that we deserve as voters.

MrFixedIncome   September 3rd, 2008 8:04 pm ET

Well, I give her an 'A' for effort, however, it will not matter. As a life-long republican and a vietnam vet, I will not give my hard earned vote to McCain. I really feel for the boys in Iraq, they have sacrificed ENOUGH. They want to come home and they know the truth. McCain cannot and will not provide for them and us (vets). He has proven that time and unfortunately time again. I can guarantee you that we will be in a war with Iran before long. I have an 11 year old grandson, my last one!, and I be darn if he will be sent to fight a war or wars with one side basing it on religion and the other basing it on economic dependency. NO ONE WILL EVER WIN. I may be old, but I do know that peace, or the attempt of it, can never be wrong.

Phil-Texas   September 3rd, 2008 8:03 pm ET

I don't think it matters what she says. She is dead weight. To much baggage.

Bertin Evina-Ze   September 3rd, 2008 8:03 pm ET

I used to live in Alaska when Sarah Palin was promoting his career by whisle blowing well known people of her party. To me it was sort of political coup, for sure enough a year later she was elected governor.

I don't mind whisle blowers execpt when they are doing that for personal /selfish aims. To me Sarah Palin should be ashamed of the way she treated the people who helped her be where she is today.

I also believe John McCain is all about winning, he thinks Sarah Palin will bring millions of Hilary's female voters to him. He doesn't know Sarah Palin, he doesn't care about her.

McCain /Palin ticket is doomed to fail.

Alexis   September 3rd, 2008 8:03 pm ET

No matter how well she does tonight ( yes I know she will hit it out of the park) I dont think it will change anything regarding her being new on the scene and her exp. or lack thereof issue.

Lisa Hampton Newark, NJ   September 3rd, 2008 8:02 pm ET

It doesn't even matter. McCain and Palin are going down and they are going to take down the whole Republican party with them.

What is her terrified daughter's boyfriend doing at the convention? This circus is a little too much.

oops – left out the IMPORTANT one being installed

You people don't get it – this is not about Palin – it's about distracting US so that Rove can install McGreedyOilParty/Palin like he did Bushie – TWICE.

Catherine Friederich   September 3rd, 2008 8:01 pm ET

What pitiful, tired, and worn strategy from the Republicans. Instead of focusing on the extreme issues this country is facing, they need to defame their opponents. Hopefully, it's become painful and transparent enough for another people to say, "enough."

MikeH   September 3rd, 2008 8:01 pm ET

Oh Candy, give it a rest. You've earned you Republican Operative paycheck, now go change.

Sarah's going to read the speech that was written for her by the Bush Lackeys. What do you suppose she will say, anything like an apology for the last eight years of trashing the country? Trashing the Constitution? Trashing the Bill of Rights?

Mikel   September 3rd, 2008 8:00 pm ET

How much do you want to bet that Palin will turn on the water works tonight? I can almost guarantee it. The sad thing is people will fall for it.

Nan   September 3rd, 2008 8:00 pm ET

I read some of the speech on the Huffington Post website. It is a decent speech. It should be it was written by the GOP best speech writers. She will deliver it well, she does have a BA in journalism and was a sportscaster. Tomorrow the press will say she was great but it won't change the facts that the community organizer she is refering to has a JD from Harvard Law with a specialty in constitutional law. He actually understands what our constitutional rights are. No she has a BA from U of Idaho. I am sure a good school but lets get real here folks

They have had her in hiding the last couple of days because they said they didn't want her to have to face the media onslaught because the media are 'out for blood'. If she thinks the media is tough, how on earth would she begin to cope with the dangers that face our country everyday?

Alfred   September 3rd, 2008 7:59 pm ET

I wonder if she'll talk about the issue of teen pregnancy.

Johanna   September 3rd, 2008 7:59 pm ET

Sad…

well community organizers help people find jobs which you republicans love to outsource. Second, lets discuss how you are under investigation for abuse of power, took earmarks and left your town with $20 million debt. Third, McCain works for change such as voting aganist katrina funding, gi bill and equal pay for women. yeah that is change I can believe in. NOT

Jason   September 3rd, 2008 7:59 pm ET

Wow. I think that's called 'tugging Superman's cape.'

If she's going to open the floodgates by talking about what exactly her experience has consisted of and make it a debate point, she's in for a long month.

Wayne   September 3rd, 2008 7:59 pm ET

just the facts:

Obama:
B.A in political science from Columbia University, with a specialization in international relations
J.D. in Law from Hardvard, graduated magna cum laude; President of the Harvard Law Review
12 years (92-04) teaching constitutional law
7 years State Senator: sponsored more than 800 bills
4 years Senator for Illinos, a state with 12.8 million people

Palin:
Bachelor's in journalism from University of Idaho
4 years Wasilla City Council (8000 people)
6 years Wasilla mayor (8000 people)
1 year "Ethics Commissioner of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission"
20 months governor of a state with 660,000 people

A Woman In California For Obama   September 3rd, 2008 7:57 pm ET

Daisy Duke needs to shut the h*ll up! She is trying to play a BIG girl on a BIG national stage (first time, I must point out). A far cry from the hole she crawled out of. Why doesn't she go back home to the woods and manage her household before trying to give a highly rehearsed speech (to which she had a hard time learning). She is NOT capable of speaking about anything other than how to have children.

Palin = Ghetto-fake politian.

no way, no how, no McCain!   September 3rd, 2008 7:57 pm ET

The best thing the McCain ticket could do at this point is to work for the votes – Stop the negative ads and slurs immediately, cut out the narrative anadoctal stories and focus on laying out their plans for the issues America needs to have resolved, talk with the people, cut out the Karl Rove-approved tactics and deliver. I just don't think they can rebuild their reputation at this point before the election, but it's their only hope.

Adam   September 3rd, 2008 7:57 pm ET

So, she is demeaning the work of community organizers across America. Wow, way to win people over.

Phil, Ashburn, VA   September 3rd, 2008 7:57 pm ET

Palin, is no qualified to run her own family. She is a republican puppet. Republicans use fear and war. Come one people wake up.

oh my   September 3rd, 2008 7:57 pm ET

Palin is nothing more than a republican talking point, another McCain gimmick like the gas tax holiday, political narrative BS…they know it we know it she knows it and you know it…dint cry about your daughter and the press then hold a photo op, don't claim reform when you are in bed with LOBBYIST, don't insult the American people S. Palin we have endured the Republican insults for 8 years now…8 is enough, and John McCain, what in the he!! were you thinking, that America would be swayed because of a skirt? yo Mr. McCain have NO HONOR, this whole charade is NOT country first….you Mr. McCain are a disgrace…Palin is just another unfortunate example of a McCain senior moment at the expense of the United States of America

Jason   September 3rd, 2008 7:56 pm ET

This argument for "experience" needs to stop … until someone can provide a correlation between any "experience" and how you handle the country — I don't care. I want the best person for the job; McCain's decision making process scares me. Palin's insanity scares me (banning books, threatening to fire employees to attempt and see their loyalty, etc.)

That's why I will vote for Obama.

Barbara   September 3rd, 2008 7:56 pm ET

Does she know yet ? You know, what her strategists said. Or will that get covered up?

Heather in SoCal   September 3rd, 2008 7:56 pm ET

Huff Post notes that she was almost recalled as mayor, and left a previously solvent town in debt. Guess she blew those "responsibilities". Give me Obama any day!!!

TJ Gorton   September 3rd, 2008 7:56 pm ET

She didn't even write that speech. All she is, is a puppet for the RNC. Wait til she has to think on her feet. Speeches, debates are simple however everyone wants to see he on he feet. When are McCain going to open her up to the media and stop protecting her, after all she suposedly is one heartbeat from the presidency.

Vote Real Change – Vote Obama/Biden 2008

Perla   September 3rd, 2008 7:55 pm ET

I hope "Sarah-Barracuda" DOES hit hard–then Obama and Biden can stop feeling that they have to be extra nice to her. Obama / Biden are light-years ahead of McGaffe / Palin in smarts and integrity and real concern about the country, and they need to go after their Repub opponents on the issues without pulling their punches.

Please read the article!   September 3rd, 2008 7:55 pm ET

"(CNN) – Prominent Republican analysts Peggy Noonan and Mike Murphy became the latest victims of an open microphone Wednesday, caught after a segment on MSNBC trashing John McCain's pick of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate.

Noonan, a Wall Street Journal columnist and former speechwriter for Ronald Reagan, and Murphy, a campaign strategist and onetime aide to John McCain, can both be heard expressing disbelief with the pick of Palin after they apparently thought they were in a commercial break.

“I come out of the blue swing-state governor world, Engler, Whitman, Thompson, Mitt Romney,” Murphy said during the mishap which has since been posted on YouTube. Murphy later flatly says of the pick, "It's not going to work."

Noonan is heard going even further, saying of the presidential race, "It's over."

"I think they went for this — excuse me– political bulls**t about narratives," Noonan also said. "Every time the Republicans do that, because that's not where they live and it's not what they're good at, they blow it."

Murphy, who was a senior adviser to John McCain's 2000 presidential bid, also adds, "You know what's really the worst thing about it? The greatness of McCain is no cynicism, and this is cynical."
