Dems could pull Lieberman chairmanship

Lieberman addressed the Republican National Convention on Tuesday night.
Lieberman addressed the Republican National Convention on Tuesday night.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Sen. Joe Lieberman’s speech before the Republican National Convention Tuesday night could cost Lieberman the chairmanship of a key Senate committee, a top Senate Democratic aide told CNN.

During the speech, the Connecticut senator praised GOP presidential candidate Sen. John McCain and criticizing Democratic nominee Sen. Barack Obama.

"The Democratic Caucus will reassess the situation with Sen. Lieberman after the election,” Jim Manley, a spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, said Wednesday.

Lieberman, the Democratic nominee for vice president in 2000, now calls himself an “independent Democrat,” but he remains a member of the Senate Democratic Caucus which allows him to head the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

Democrats have grumbled for months about Lieberman’s outspoken support of McCain and both Reid and Obama have warned Lieberman to curb his public criticism of Obama.

“What we saw last night was a culmination of provocative efforts in recent months,” said a Democratic leadership aide.

Democrats, who with Lieberman’s support control the chamber by a narrow 51-49 margin, are unlikely to go a step further and boot Lieberman from their caucus although the Democratic leadership aide didn’t rule out that punitive step if Democrats pick up several seats in November.

He should lose his citizenship along with all of the others who have stolen from the American people and who sold America out to the highest bidder.

They should absolutely take away his chairmanships. He should go serve with the geezers that he loves so much.
I'm ashamed he uses the word Democrat when he speaks.

Who really wants GI Joe and Barbie in the office? I want a president who keeps us out of wars. Showing me video of wars and POW's reminds me about the pain it causes to every nation that is involved. We want a diplomatic president, not a hot-headed POW.

DNC supports democracy but don't practice it in the party ranks.

Man.............. get caught telling the truth, and you'll be crushed.

I wonder if the vicious Dems have time and money enough to ruin Lieberman and Palin too!

He out and out lied! Obama has worked across party lines. For him to say that he never did is wrong. They should take his leadership role away. As a Jew he is a disgrace to our people!

  8. Hypocrits for Obama

Wow- democrats... campaign on change and complain that washington is where ideas go to die...

Then play the same old game- punish dissent by removing that politician from his seat.

That is why Obama voted present 100's of times- not willing to do damage to self and career by taking an actual stand.

Obama= MR vague= adored and liked.

Mavericks= McCain, HRC, Leiberman, Palin = bear the wrath of the insiders.

If Lieberman is an independent, why didn't he support a third party candidate?

The Dems need to pull his chair. Lieberman has been a disgrace for a few years now, and I don't know how the Dems tolerate it.

    Oh hell no!
The dems don't have any real control over the Senate yet any way. I say we pull this chumps card and leave him with the losers he has chosen. America is coming around to the Democratic party and we don't need this loser in the mix. Kick him out and kick him out now publicaly with press conference and picture of him saying this man is no democrat!

  12. A house divided

Obama wins by playing it safe and using the race card.

Everyone else loses by standing up for what they believe- no matter how unpopular.

HRC was no patsy- the media and the party could not control her. So they gutted her and used the racist label to do it.

No one dared to disagree or they'd be on the black list (no pun intended) of racists against Obama.

This is the CHANGE you will get if the Dems win the election. It's their way or the highway.

That's why I will be switching and voting Republican all the way down the ticket for the first time in my life.

He should have praised McCain but not mentioned Obama. That's where he went over the top.

Expect him not to run for reelection if Obama becomes president. If, in the unlikely event, McCain wins the election, Lieberman will probably become secretary of state.

Can the democrats come up with any MORE nails with which to nail their own coffin.

It is this suppression of democracy that is losing Obama votes from members of his own party.

This democratic primary showed how the democrats are all about silencing dissent.

    Sen. Joe Lieberman’s video from 2006;

when the Connecticut Independent-Democrat promised to help Obama "reach to the stars" and "realize not just the dreams he has for himself but the dreams we all have for him and our blessed country."

"As far as I am concerned he is a Baruk, which means a blessing, he is a blessing to the United States Senate to America and to our shared hopes for a better safer tomorrow for all our families. The gifts that God has given to Barack Obama are as enormous as his future is unlimited. As his mentor, as his colleague, as his friend, I look forward to helping him reach to the stars and realize not just the dreams he has for himself but the dreams we all have for him and our blessed country."

Yes, after that little performance last night, Dems should take away anything they can from Lieberman. He' s not a Dem anyway, he's supposed to be an independent. So take it away and give it to one of the REAL Dem.

Dissent and disagreement are fine, America is supposed to stand for truth, telling lies so that you get elected or you get your pal elected should be censored. Lieberman is expressing what McCain wants to hear so that Lieberman can get a top appointment in McCains cabinet. This is a case of a man who aligns himself with the party that will get him elected. Liberman was a Democrat until he saw he could ride the Republican wave into office so he changed to an independent and asked the Republicans for support. Now he chants the Bush-McCain idealog that has ruined the country, killed 5,000 young men and women, crippled tens of thousands all for the bulging profits of the oil companies.

How could he lie about us? He also lied to Conneticut when he ran for Senate the second time around. They wanted him gone, and he lied to get their votes. Hope it doesn't happen next time.

How dare anybody challenge the credentials of Obama.

Stick with attacking Bush... Hillary... the HILLBILLYS... McCain and Palin.

The democratic memofesto clearly states that Obama is above any criticism from ANYone- EVER.

    Washington insiders are all obeying.

  23. Question John McCain's Judgement

Lieberman willingly made reservations to get on the other train months ago. Last night he paid his fare.

It's time for him to become a card carrying Republican and just get on with it. His wife has been bitter after his losses to. They need to move on and stop "hanging on."

    See ya, Joe!!!!

After the way he misuses, uses, and abuses the democrats, what makes him believe the republicans will trust him with the integrity of their party. They're only using him for the sake of winning. And whether or not they win, they will cast him away like a piece of old dirty useless rag. The republicans do not sit with disloyal hippocrite. If he could promote a candidate to success so much, then why did hillary lose with his support? He's nothing but bad luck. Hang yourself Judas.
