ST PAUL (CNN) — Sen. Jon Kyl will place fellow Arizona Sen. John McCain's name into nomination at the Republican convention Wednesday night, GOP officials tell CNN.

Louisiana Gov. Jindal had originally been slated for that role, but was forced to skip the convention due to Hurricane Gustav.

I love Governor Jendel, he is Louisiana's answer to that state.

I am so excited about this ticket, I truly dont believe the last time I felt so energized by an election. I am a Democrat, female, 44 years old. I am pro-choice but respect people's pro-life stance. I even find myself being more toward pro-life just becuase I am a proud mother and just recently a proud grandmother. I like Sara Palin, she has more experience in Public office at city councel level, mayor level and Governership of the Oil rich state of Alaska. She has more experience then any of the running candidates. I like the fact that she is a reformer and fights corruptive government. She is also well verced in the oil industry, they know not to mess with her! I am voting for the Maverick who selected this great VP.

Go John McCain, we love you!

Sarah Palin - 9/3/08 4pm ET
This is sour grapes. I called one of my friends in AK and verified this info. It is a bit twisted.

Jarod Parker   September 3rd, 2008 4:59 pm ET

As a republican I was on the fence between Obama & McCain. Hoping if Obama picks Hillary for VP, I could vote for Obama. Then with the Biden pick, I thought .. well OK at least Biden is an individual with the set of experience that would be a respectable support for the presidency .. and if necessary Biden could handle being the President.

Then I said, well maybe McCain would make a wise choice and pick a VP who would be strong on Finance/Economy, and possibly a person who would be equally respectable. Thus McCain could get my vote based on his wise judgement and a good VP pick.

Well, with Palin as a choice, I was completely disgusted. Disgusted to see a person chosen for being a female (to win Hillary's voters) and for being a right-wing conservative (to please the Huckabee voters).

Well McCain is wrong on both counts .. a disastrous wrong pick !!

Palin (a mother) accepted this position without any concern for the kids upbringing .. at least for the next 4 years, even though she was well aware that one of em was involved in pre-marital sex and got pregnant. What about the other kids. It shows she definitely doesn't care, and also tells me that she would do the same for me, my family, my kids and their future.

"Let the Choices You make Today … be Choices You can Live with Tomorrow"

Instead of focusing on their "proper" education and well being, she wants to be next in line to the most powerful position in this free world. The institution of presidency is not a part time job.

My Choice today will be Obama, so that me and my family and my kids can Live a healthy prosperous Tomorrow.

For me being pro-life means living a healthy & a prosperous life and doing the right thing.

No thanks, a dont believe any of them, it is just to get in power, after that its business as usual.

I am so sick of the media hype and crap over Obama and the sexist remarks of the Obamanation groupies. At this time, I am an Independent and would vote in Satan before Obama gets my one vote. I half expect to see the CNN media and Obama prom pictures posted soon.

Marie L   September 3rd, 2008 4:15 pm ET

The McCain campaign is playing a calculated game orchestrated by Steve Schmidt (ROVE CLONE). They are blaming what they call liberal media and the left simply because we question Sarah Palin on her qualifications and her stand on issues. This is not true, do not let them get away with it! The media is not against Sarah Palin and the Democrats as well as independents do not like her simply because she is female. How dare they cry sexist because we criticize her. These are their talking points and they are not true. The reason many many do not like her is that she is extremely far to the right (she makes George Bush look like a liberal) and she is simply not ready to be vice president, let alone president.
Everyone needs to be aware of the games the McCain campaign is playing in attempt to get the media to back off and for people to be quiet. We will not be silenced. Sarah Palin and John McCain are dangerous for America!

Turner In Washington   September 3rd, 2008 4:14 pm ET

I am totally disgusted with the Republican Party and thier hypocritical Guns, God and Patriotism theme. 4 more years of this nonsense could easily ruin what little economy we have left. These same people that bashed teenage pregnancy for the last 20 years now wear buttons proclaiming " I support un-wed Mothers". Being a Christian my entire life I fail to see any comparison between Christ and these gun toting neocons.

I wonder what the polls are saying now. I doubt McCain will get the boost that he needed after the RNC tonight. I am really anxious to see how she delivers…. Very doubtful that it will even be news worthy but I bet the Repubs act like its the best that they have ever seen, ever..

henri   September 3rd, 2008 4:04 pm ET

It is apparent, that the Republican Party and some of those who support
John McCain will sell their souls for him to become president. They claim that they are all excited and he has the winning ticket. If this is true, they all thought they had the winning ticket to become President or Vice President, take a good look at them now they are all rejects and has been: Sen. Joe Lieberman, Gov. Mike Huckabee, and Gov. Mitt Romney, Sen. Fred Thompson and Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani is expected to come out swinging. They all had it, but they all lost it and they all want it back. IT’S OVER!

Get your facts - think for yourself…
The majority of the US Media is liberal and biased. They have an agenda to push and in this case they want "Change". And the Palin "change" is not what they had in mind and they are digging deeper and harder than ever before to push their view point on the American Public. It is very unfortunate that they have strayed so far from the truth in reporting. The Facts – the Verified Factual Facts, with no personal opinion. Also unfortunate is the fact that the average American is allowing others to think for them. Look at the youth today… they don’t have a clue, asked them what “change” means to them and they don’t have a clear answer. We are in deep trouble if we allow this sort of reporting to influence our decisions. Americans - THINK! It’s time to think, research on your own, put in perspective what you hear, what the consequences will be. Look back in history… oh lets say 40-50 years ago and look in on Cuba….Castro promised change….and look what they got.
Is this what we want…we are heading that way!

With all due respect again to Governor Kaine, he’s been a governor for three years, he’s been able but undistinguished,” Rove said. “I don’t think people could really name a big, important thing that he’s done. He was mayor of the 105th largest city in America.”

Rove continued: “So if he were to pick Governor Kaine, it would be an intensely political choice where he said, `You know what? I’m really not, first and foremost, concerned with, is this person capable of being president of the United States.”

Tim Kaine”s experience:
- Governor of Virginia (pop: 7,643,000) - 2 years 8 months.
- Lt. Governor of Virginia - 4 years
- Mayor of Richmond (pop: 200,123) - 2 years
- City Council of Richmond - 4 years

Sarah Palin”s experience:
- Governor of Alaska (pop: 670,000) - 1 year 9 months.
- Mayor of Wasilla, Alaska (pop: 9,780)

Just in: McCain is going to replace Palin with Tim Kaine!!!!

You guys are amazing. Seriously. McCain is far from my favorite anything and I would have voted for Hillary even though I have never been a big fan of the Clinton's I feel she was competent and I felt confident in her vision on enough of the issues.

Obama, not so much. Then he picks a pathological liar as his running mate and the deal was sealed. I have no intention of trying to make a point to you guys, obviously it could be on the Goodyear Blimp in your living rooms and you would still refuse to look at it. Your candidate is an empty suit at best and a dangerously ignorant politician at worst.

Hell my 9 year old is charming and charismatic and probably equally qualified to run the country as Barry-O. Hell she has more executive experience being the oldest of four children. He has never done anything except run for office and run from his past. Gosh I love revisionist historians, you guys are a hoot. If your candidate wins, I will be sitting around watching as everything goes to hell and you all wish you had not gone running after your fantasy candidate leaving the only viable candidate in the dust. If i was Hillary i would become a Republican and let the lot of you drown in your own self deluded righteousness.

Skip Soden   September 3rd, 2008 3:22 pm ET

I find it odd that of the four candidates on the two parties tickets, ONLY Sarah Palin has any elected executive branch experience. The other three are legislators with no particular history of being in charge of anything governmental at all.

So why the flap about qualifications? Sure, she is not a nationally well known name. And, it would be great to know more about her positions on national issues. So why not just ask her after the speech that will likely answer most of these questions. Why challenge her "qualifications and experience" when she already has the only executive branch experience from either ticket?

Both campaigns are touting their ability to bring about change, and totally ignoring their combined half century in Washington that didn't seem to produce the change they talk about.

The way I see it,Sarah Palin is THE CANDIDATE of these four that really will be different and really could make a change!

How about giving her a chance to introduce her positions and ideas BEFORE you try to raise your ratings by blowing her away before she gets started!!!!

My choice was definitely made this morning when I heard a News Lady (if I may call her a lady) made the comment that the Palin family reminded her of Peyton Place. This comment was made after the Palin family met Mr. McCain at the airport. This was uncalled for.

The Repugs have decided that they are not going to answer any more questions about Palin that seek to shed light on her judgement, her qualifications, or the baby scandal (bad judgement - she should have let her daughter use contraceptives and allow the school to teach her about sex education, since it is obvious that she didn't!).

Since when do we Americans allow anyone to shove their propaganda down our throats without fighting back? Hitler did that …do we really want to allow them to take us there? Are we supposed to simply accept what they tell us and keep quiet?

This IS still tjer America of Thomas Jefferson, isn't it?

Fred Lloyd   September 3rd, 2008 3:14 pm ET

David Gergen had it right last night when he brought out how depressing it was to watch this negative convention. Further, that it is so divisive to point out that if you are not in agreement with the Republicans, you are not patriotic. Those who framed the party platform want to insure that this campaign is polarized. So, unless Obama is skillful enough to pull the rhetoric out of the gutter, here we go again.

kescia   September 3rd, 2008 3:14 pm ET

Great! It sickens me that Barak Obama and his family have to "prove" they are real, traditional, Christian Americans while on the other hand some people feel it's wonderful to have a polished-up former-mistress trophy wife and a 44 year old grandmother in the White House. What a disgrace. Of course noone asks Obama, Biden or McCain who's caring for their children because MOST traditional Americans accept that–at least for now–women are the primary caregivers. I couldn't stand to relinquish the care of my infant to anyone, especially if I didn't have to. Palin was dishonest when she went on stage with her pregnant daughter conveniently holding an oversized blanket and her brother. Someone was actually conniving enough to suggest that be done. I can't look at her or Cindy McCain with any level of respect.

All GOP speakers will be say nothing about the economy, the war, the reckless spending and deficeits by this administration, the corruption of the GOP, the secrecy of this administration, torture, the scredding of the Constitution, and the reputation of the USA around the world.

They will whip the Congress for it's low approval rating, but they won't tell you that it boils down to a 50/50 split in the Senate where the GOP senators are blocking everything. Let's not forget during 2000-2006 the GOP majority led Congress, Exectutive, and Judical branches are the rubber stamp for the Bush/Cheney Administration.

How does her choice to keep the child affect you or anyone for that matter? Why should the government have any say in young people's sexual decisions? About her newborn baby, Palin didn't care about delivering him in a safe and sound environment in the nearest hospital so she left a conference in Texas to fly 12 hours all the way back to Alaska! But none of her colleagues new she was even pregnant, and supposedly was 7 months? C'mon, give me a break. This is nonsense! I'm not buying it. And I'm NOT proud to have a woman like her potentially representing women of the US. Women should not succumb to someone like this. She would be a TERRIBLE example to women and young girls. Can you imagine, your teenage kids thinking that it's okay to have sex and have a baby at 16, or 17 years old because the president's daughter has one? Can you honestly say that Sara is a great example to working women? NEGATIVE!!! Neglecting her kids for her own self interest? For the sake of political power? From what I can understand his VP choice has more Executive experience? I am an Independent and have a son and 14 family members serving in Iraq and other parts of the world. Don't tell me I am not patriotic because I am not a Republican.

Cupper   September 3rd, 2008 2:58 pm ET

Pat Buchanan said this pick would be spell potential “disaster.”

“I will say this, and let’s just be really blunt about it, if John McCain’s campaign thinks that by simply appointing a woman they are going to get Hillary Clinton’s voters, that is condescending and insulting to women and it is a terrible terrible political faux pas. This will be a mistake.” […]

“You know, it sounds, and I know I’m going to get blasted for this, it sounds like a Harriet Miers decision, ‘let’s get a woman, whether she’s experienced or not’…”

Well, John McCain did make the irresponsible choice.

No, the media is only trying to report the news to a public that deserves to ask questions and get answers. A free press is supposed to ask the tough questions and stand between the powers that seek control of the population.

How come the Republicans do not question the agenda of the conservative-biased media who is shoving republican propaganda down our throats without regard to truth or fairness???

And why don't the so-called "liberal-biased" media hold them accountable and call them on this???

These conservatives HOWL in pseudo indignation when anyone questions them on anything - but they are allowed to smear, attack and push their propaganda down our throats daily.

These people are not patriotic, they hate America because they do not allow dissent. A free country is one in which the citizens are allowed to disagree with those in power, and with each other. If anyone disagrees with these people they paste labels on them and intimidate them. Americans need to be very afraid of these people…

McSAME --- PLEASE!!!!   September 3rd, 2008 2:54 pm ET

She has small children for crying out loud that need her! I am so outraged by this mockery.

By the way, I am not a sexist, I just think it's a huge case of selfishness and abandonment!

I don't like the fact that the 'MEDIA" are being criticized for scrutinizing her, as if we don't have a right to know about this person in and out.

blaising   September 3rd, 2008 2:54 pm ET

from The Los Angeles Times 9/3/08

For much of his long career in Washington, John McCain has been throwing darts at the special spending system known as earmarking, through which powerful members of Congress can deliver federal cash for pet projects back home with little or no public scrutiny. He's even gone so far as to publish "pork lists" detailing these financial favors.

Three times in recent years, McCain's catalogs of "objectionable" spending have included earmarks for this small Alaska town, requested by its mayor at the time — Sarah Palin.

McSAME --- PLEASE!!!!   September 3rd, 2008 2:53 pm ET

I am SOOOOO sick of being fed this garbage from the republicans that Sara Palin is a reformer. What will she reform? John McCain?

As a woman, I don't appreciate knowing that the first possible first female president of this country puts her career over her family. She is NOT a role model. She obviously hasn't been able to educate or maintain her own children, otherwise her teenage daughter wouldn't be in this predicament….This says that she's not doing a good job of teaching her children about the importance of sex education. And to tout her daughter as if she's done no wrong is absurd. Palin, in other words, is condoning teen pregnancy.

I work in law enforcement and when you get hired you have to go through a very detailed background search. This Palin woman could possibly be second in command of the greatest nuclear arsonal in the history of man. She needs to be asked some tough questions!

I feel the media is being too easy on her and are letting her slide by.
I think Campbell is a great reporter and was asking the tough questions all americans want to hear. I am an independant and am very outraged by the Mccain people whining about all the tough questions. This is the presidency and vice presidency of the United States, you have to be tougher than some reporters asking tough questions, stop all the whining Mccain.

It is funny all these people at the convention are energized over Palin of course they are the radical right has systematically removed all of us republicans from there party over the last 8 years, It is a room full of radical right wing nuts jobs. No thanks, a dont believe any of them, it is just to get in power, after that its business as usual.

And that is a fact.

I keep coming back to the statement in Obama's acceptance speech about disagreements and common ground.

"We don't have to fully agree on abortion, but SURELY we can agree that there are TOO many teen pregnancies"…..

I'm sorry… the man is wise beyond his years.

And who's placing Mitt Romney's name into consideration as VP?

Tony   September 3rd, 2008 2:45 pm ET

Some FACTS about Ms. Palin:

1) Her husband was an active member of the Alaskan Independence Party, not once, but twice and she supported him both times. They want Alaska to secede from the U.S. and be it's own entity. I guess Sara thinks that if she succeeds she will, of course, run it.

2) Palin voted for the "Bridge to Nowhere", Sen. Ted Stevens' pork barrel project, before she voted against it. Stevens says he is totally innocent, however the FBI ahs taped recordings of Stevens on the phone with contractors and Steves has hired lawyers to try to keep the tapes from being admissible at trial. Sound innocent to you?

3) She is vehemently against sex education in the shools and says ABSTINENCE ONLY education. Perhaps she should have made that clearer to her daughter.

4) She voted for Pat Buchannan in 2000 and shares MANY of his views.

5) She met with, and hired lobbyists to try and secure $27 million dollars in pork barrel spending for her tiny town of only (50 employees), something McCain has proclaimed from day one he is against, but she was defeated.

6) Her husband has an arrest record for drinking and driving, but I guess that is something that is so common in the Bush family, and with republicans in general, that they probably didn't think that was important when selecting her.

7) She says God wanted the war in Iraq and that the U.S. should stay there.

8. She is currently under investigation to see if she abused the power of her office by having a State Commissioner fired for not firing her brother-in-law who was having marital problems with her sister.

9) McCain lied when he said that she had been vetted months ago. Fact is she was not vetted until the day before the announcement.

10) McCain lied when he said that he knew about her daughter's pregnancy a few months ago. Fact is, he just found out this past Saturday.

11) Her daughter's boyfriend said on his MySpace blog just yesterday, before it was removed, that he did NOT want children now, and I am just a redneck…I will kick butt.. What else is there to do in Alaska other than play hockey, fish and hunt, party, drink, do drugs and have lots of sex.

GOOD OLD REPUBLICAN FAMILY VALUES!

There are too many more things on the list to go on, but the inforamtion is right out there for anyone who cares to educate themselves about how dangerous McCain/Palin would be for this country.
