Giuliani was joined by his wife, Judith, as he surveyed the podium at the Republican convention Tuesday.

ST. PAUL, Minnesota (CNN) – Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani is expected to come out swinging Wednesday, in a “compelling speech” intended to contrast the stark differences between presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain and his Democratic rival Barack Obama, a McCain campaign official told CNN.

“It’s red meat in the sense that it’s a very strong argument on why McCain is the better choice,” said the official, who previewed Giuliani’s address before the Republican National Convention.

Former governors and GOP presidential rivals Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney are also expected to address how McCain differs from Obama. With a critical look at Democrats, the speeches will address "why Washington’s broken" and how Republicans "must fix it."

“The speeches will be a little edgier tonight,” the official told CNN. Tonight, McCain will officially be nominated for the GOP nomination.

With speeches from Meg Whitman, former president and CEO of eBay, and Carly Fiorina, former chairman and CEO of Hewlett-Packard, early in Wednesday night’s program, McCain officials say there will be a “big concentration on economic issues.”

While Whitman and Fiorina will not cover any new policy ground, the themes will “echo” McCain’s May speech entitled “2013,” where the Arizona senator maps out his first term achievements by 2013. Among the successes McCain envisions, “several years of robust economic growth” and winning the war in Iraq.

THIS BOZZO NAMED GIULIANI SHOULD BE NAMED THE GREATEST LOOSER OF THE CENTURY.
WHAT KIND OF GOURAGE IS THIS. HE SHOULD DISSAPEAR AND ENJOY THE MONEY HE CHASHED IN FROM THE GULF COUNTRIES.
EVEN BETTER, HE SHOULD RESIGN FROM THE REPUBLICAN PARTY.

McCain camp threatening edgier speeches tonight? ha! ha! I'm sorry, but this is just sooooooooo pathetic I can't even put it into words. The Republican's edgier? Someone pick me up off the floor, I'm laughing so hard. The McCain camp doesn't have a clue what "edgier" is if it was staring them in the face!!!

The circus of clowns is about to come out tonight. Everyone is banking on Sarah's speech. Talk about pressure….and another "gamble" by the McCain camp.

"Even edgier?" Somewhere between a nap and a coma?

Jim   September 3rd, 2008 6:25 pm ET

Where is Vice President Cheney? I'm sure he would enjoy hearing these "even edgier" speeches tonight, and even love to deliver one!

But I see he is on a "scheduled trip" to three former Soviet republics. Surely he could have adjusted his "busy schedule" to include a day at his party's own convention! Pres. Bush could also have flown to St. Paul for a few hours last night. Or is it possible the GOP does not want to admit that McCain is the heir and continuation of the Bush/Cheney policies?

Lesley   September 3rd, 2008 6:20 pm ET

Meanwhile the majority of viewers will be watching Obama's interview on Fox Thursday instead of McCain's acceptance speech.

Moe, NY   September 3rd, 2008 6:07 pm ET

Oh Oh…I feel more fear mongering by the republicans coming our way tonight. Really is getting very boring, but what else do the republicans have to offer? They certainly cannot talk about the enormous issues facing America, as they are the ones who just about brought America to her knees. Hypocrites..each and every one of them!

Aging GOP   September 3rd, 2008 6:04 pm ET

The GOP party has really aged, this man looks old also. The GOP needed to infuse young republicans into this convention, so far I have only seen 60 somethings speaking each night about service, no change, no direction on the Country, and no plan to bail America out of it's financial woes, just service. Service to do what????? Fight more wars????

But didnt the republican break it?!
So why would you want them to fix it?
They have a hard time focusing on the issues during an election (when its all about issues) can you imagine the white house—we'll be talking war & war & more war & did you know–MccCain was a POW!
If poosible he is worse than bush—very 1 dimentional-can only talk about the war & drilling oil (which is the only reason republican go to war for-there prescious oil…Vote Jed Klampet!

Bob   September 3rd, 2008 5:21 pm ET

"With a critical look at Democrats, the speeches will address "why Washington’s broken" and how Republicans "must fix it.""

Haven't the republicans been in power 8 years? Aren't they the ones who are responsible for the mess we're in? Republicans are still in power, and if they really wanted to fix the problems this country faces they would have done so already.

collinon   September 3rd, 2008 5:16 pm ET

For me. What I am going to choose is only between more liberal-Obama and less liberal- J McCain. Mitt Romney even didn't make through primaries just because he is a momon. Had he been chosen the VP, you can imagine how McCain could have been smashed. Anyone on the earth care about qualification!

Ken Deminick   September 3rd, 2008 4:59 pm ET

The Republican argument that Sara Palin is more qualified than Barack Obama because of her “Executive Experience” as a mayor or as state governor is so flimsy that it is laughable.

Senator Obama has been running a presidential campaign about as long as Sara Palin has been Governor of Alaska. It's a lot harder to run a presidential campaign than a state. Let me explain:

An incoming Governor inherits a fully functioning infrastructure which includes staff, office buildings, department heads, computer systems, procedures etc. He or she then has to run the existing bureaucracy and try and improve upon it. The Governor has a steady stream of money in the form of taxes & other state revenues. The Governor has to travel around the state from time to time. Most often a Governor does not have to deal with daily attack adds from the other political party.

When starting a Presidential Campaign there is usually no infrastructure in place, no staff, no offices, no procedural policy, etc. It all has to be created from scratch. A Presidential candidate does not have a ready-made cash flow and therefore has to find ways to raise money. A Presidential candidate has to travel to fifty states, not just one. He or she also has to deal with daily attack ads, especially if he/she is running against the Republicans.

Barack Obama came from nowhere, put together a highly successful campaign and convention, has tons of money in the bank and he beat the much touted “Clinton Machine”
If that is not Executive Experience, I don’t know what is.

It’s funny that Rudi Giuliani was repeating almost word for word the “Executive Experience” argument all the other Republican talkingAIRheads are reciting from the same prepared script. He was a successful mayor (infrastructure) and a total failure as a Presidential Candidate (no infrastructure).

A State Governor deals with state issues. A State Senator sits in Congress and deals with national and international issues and has access to the President. So who is better prepared to deal with the nation and the world, a Governor or a Senator? Obviously a Senator.

Some of the Republican talkingAIRheads have gone so far as to suggest that Sara Palin has Commander in Chief experience because she can call out the National Guard in Alaska. Or because Alaska is close to Russia therefore she has international credentials. How about believing because she has governed Alaska for a year and a half that she has an energy policy for America?

Give me a break, how flimsy do the lies and exaggerations have to be before even a fool sees through them?

While all of this political talkingAIRhead BS is going on Barack Obama is diverting all of his campaign donations to the Red Cross and about sixty other charitable organizations of your choice to help the hurricane victims.

So money talks and BS walks.

sha   September 3rd, 2008 4:56 pm ET

You know, I actually watched some of the Republican convention last night trying to be open-minded and at least listen to what they had to say. All I learned is that I am not part of their club and their America is NOT the America I want to be a part of or believe in. According to them, I am not a true American, I am not a patriot. I wanted to scream! I totally disagree with the direction this country has taken and the direction that McCain and his ultra-conservative VP want to take it - IT DOESN'T MEAN I DON"T LOVE THIS COUNTRY it means I don't love the current administration!

I want them to talk about what they are going to do to fix this mess that the Bush administration has made. The economy, Iraq, etc. I want to hear what they're goals are and how they plan to achieve them. All I ever hear them do is bash the other guy which tells me one thing - THEY DON'T HAVE A PLAN other than what we're already doing and God knows that's not working!

John Galt   September 3rd, 2008 4:56 pm ET

I wonder if, a decade from now, when this country is far more estranged from the spirit and ideals with which it was once inseperable and the artiicially maintained economy inches closer yet to total ruination, if those who commented here will look back upon their dogmatically inclined beliefs, their specious reasoning and accept responsibility for the destruction of their immaculately conceived republic, or rather as now, if they will continue in their delusions that it is their leaders who are to blame. You, who, cheer and condemn what is not yet uttered, will through your enthusiastic ignorance only serve as your adversaries best advocates and perpetuate the problems this country current struggles with.

Well, somehow we will try to get through this anyway.

Dawn in MN   September 3rd, 2008 4:52 pm ET

Of course they have to take the low road. Republicans have nothing to run on. George Bush has ruined our standing in the world and his policies have made life miserable for the part of the population that is not rich. John McCain follows the same destructive policies. The POW card that he plays whenever he can has become a joke. If anything, we should be demanding to know what psychological damage has been done to McCain because of the trauma of being a POW. Obviously it has contributed to his anger problem and his poor judgement. So, to keep the focus off of McCain, they have to lie about and smear Barack Obama. Also, I think they are so fearful of what corruption will come to light by a democrat winning the election that they have to fight for their lives because so many crooks will be exposed.

nwdst   September 3rd, 2008 4:50 pm ET

NObama…the NO is for no experience…come back when you get some because your ticket is backwards…OBiden…even some Democrats have said it because NObama it worthless.

Brian   September 3rd, 2008 4:50 pm ET

Biggest difference I can see between the two conventions right now. The Dems say, "We can't afford partisan battles," then spend the rest of the speech on soft, fuzzy stories about their backgrounds. The Republicans say, "We can't afford partisan battles," and then spend the rest of their speech attacking Democrats.

I'm not sure I really like either tactic, but anyway I know which side I'm leaning toward.

TC   September 3rd, 2008 4:50 pm ET

I personally watched the Democratic Convention and i was impressed at times, but decided that i needed to watch the RNC as well. I was moved by the way they portrayed Obama's raising, but I have to ask myself the question what has Obama done for IL? He sounds good, but the peopl of IL gave him a turn in the senate and i would just like to know what he has done for them.
Fred Thompson spoke of McCain's backgroud which is nothing but military raising all the way to present. I understand he was a POW and how he was treated and how he stood firm even though he had the chance to leave and go home. Anyone that could do that for their fellow soldiers would do that for me my wife and baby daughter. I am a independent voter that now believe's i will vote for someone that i can know what accomplishments and certain issues that i believe in and the one i trust is John McCain!

DMAC in ID/ Independent thinker NOOBAMA   September 3rd, 2008 4:45 pm ET

Sarah is a Lady. Obama is all hot air. Sure wish Biden and Hillery were on the ticket. but Biden is not enough to make me to vote Dem.
Look at all the hate he produces from his followers. This is like a 3rd world country under a dictator telling you what to think and how to act.
Obama knows she has so much more going for her than all his arm waving and windbag promises that are going to completely Socialize this country and take all your earnings.

Reading between the lines:

Tonight, Rudy Guiliani plans to shatter his current record for using the phrase "9/11″ in a single speech. He will also be attempting to break his current records for the words "fear," "terrorists," "American hero," "defend," "safe," and "security."

corey gabriel   September 3rd, 2008 4:44 pm ET

What else would we expect? The Republicans are following their usual pattern of smear, fear and lies. They are very, very good at it. It got them the White House in the last two elections, and regardless of how badly that turned out, they will again garner a large percentage of the vote in November. Let's hope, however, for all our sakes that they don't convince enough of the ill-informed voters to once again fall for their crap and vote for McCain because things will only get worse if they do. The Republicans had control of the White House and Congress and they got to implement the policies they have been pushing for years. Look where its gotten us. As expected, they will once again use cultural wedge issues to gain votes, because they have no record to run on. Do Not Reward the Republicans with Another Term in the White House!

DB   September 3rd, 2008 4:43 pm ET

The GOP makes me want to puke. They have no record to stand or anything positive to say. So much so they have to warn the Media about the upcoming smearfest.

I guess it would sound worse if the all the pundits are shocked and apalled after what they are going to hear tonight. With the warning, the pundits will only be apalled making them seem "liberal" and "in the tank."

John McCain your party is a disgrace and you do not deserve control of any branch of government.

Yes, the [R]ightwing attack dogs will appear tonite. Note the irrelevancy of those who will speak at the RNC tonite. Their neo-dimwit messages didn't even gain traction within the warped [R] electorate, so they lost out to McCain who has gleefully told us he is a 90% clone of Bush.

So what's the job of the irrelevants tonite? Attack, Attack, Attack. As always, they have nothing cogent to say to the thoughtful component of the American electorate concerning policy or where America should be heading on the issues confronting it. That approach would be a SURE loser for them; so they revert to attack and fear to garner the vote of the vacuous bottom feeders among us. They hope once again that 51% of those voting in Nov. will leave their brains at home and vote based on the [R] fear and loathing demagoguery.

I can not believe CNN and all its correspondents have bashed Sarah Palin as the VP candidate for the Republican Party. It is quite obvious to me that you and all Democrats are desperate and scared to death of this fine mother and candidate with more experience then Presidential Candidate, Barrack O' Bama. You have blown it for O'Bama and the rest of the Democrats. I am from a very strong Democratic family and all of my family including myself will vote for and support McCain-Palin. We were in doubt of which way to go but now its settled. CNN and all its reporters have really lowered its repuatation and what a disgrace of a news agency. How appalling and what a desperate move. Shame on you all. Thanks for helping the McCain ticket to the Presidency.

Tony   September 3rd, 2008 4:10 pm ET

After the brutal liberal media onslaught on Palin, and a stalled start to the RNC, McCain is still neck and neck with Barack Obama. Once we start getting to the meat of the RNC, I think McCain will take the lead. The liberal media obviously won't allow that, and will never put McCain more than dead even with Obama, but most intelligent voters will know the score.

New Repub buzz words: red meat and surge. How can they fix Washington by selecting people with the same message we've heard for the last 8 years. From what I've read about Palin, campaign spin aside, she has taken earmarks for her town and her state. That's not reform. She's in the middle of an ethics investigation, a serious charge, being defended with taxpayer money. I wonder how the people of Alaska feel about having state dollars pay for her fees and costs? Shouldn't that be investigated as well?

With all due respect again to Governor Kaine, he’s been a governor for three years, he’s been able but undistinguished,” Rove said. “I don’t think people could really name a big, important thing that he’s done. He was mayor of the 105th largest city in America.”

Rove continued: “So if he were to pick Governor Kaine, it would be an intensely political choice where he said, `You know what? I’m really not, first and foremost, concerned with, is this person capable of being president of the United States.”

Tim Kaine”s experience:
- Governor of Virginia (pop: 7,643,000) - 2 years 8 months.
- Lt. Governor of Virginia - 4 years
- Mayor of Richmond (pop: 200,123) - 2 years
- City Council of Richmond - 4 years

Sarah Palin”s experience:
- Governor of Alaska (pop: 670,000) - 1 year 9 months.
- Mayor of Wasilla, Alaska (pop: 9,780)

—-JUST IN: McCain is replacing Palin with Tim Kaine!! ——–

Dems. take notice… everything that will take place in Minn. will go down in history as the headliner of the centry. Maybe the Dems can learn from their mistake for future runs at the whitehouse…

Obama is not to be trusted. He has given us an opportunity to watch someone run scared after the convention.

The Dems are already doing this…. Send Obama back to the windy city where he belongs. He will fit right in with the rest of the thugs.

New McCainocrats for equality and fair campaigns   September 3rd, 2008 3:56 pm ET

This lifelong democrat is looking forward to it.

The Obama train is losing steam.

Hillary had her hands tied and could not go after the nomination.

The Republicans are not handicapped in that same way.

Go get them.

North Carolina   September 3rd, 2008 3:55 pm ET

What about the issues facing America today. McCain has not addressed how he plans to pay for a continued war in Iraq and drilling off-shore will not affect the price of gas today. How will he also address the economy?????

Dishonesty! Doesn't that mean anything, the absolute gross dishonesty continually demonstrated by the Republican Party and belligerently over the last eight years should be a blatant cancer on their record, something that makes everyone see everything they say as questionable at best. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me … and three times …

Jim   September 3rd, 2008 3:53 pm ET

I hope their speeches answer some of my questions such as:

Exactly when and why did McCain and other Republicans take off their 'American hats' and put on their 'Republican hats'?

When does their party come before the American public?

During Katrina, which hat were the Republicans wearing? What about when Bush deregulated the lending industry, which hat was he wearing?

Which hat was Bush wearing during his record number of vetos? Does he have a third hat that he wore during his record number of vaction days?

Can these hats be visible so the American public knows when they are being 'Republicans' and when they are being 'Americans'? The disctintion could be important.

Danny, OH   September 3rd, 2008 3:53 pm ET

DUMB, DUMBER and DUMBEST. So now Republicans see Washington broken and it takes a Hockey mum to fix it.
How many years have Republicans been in the majority in Congress? They are putting the blame on the Democratic congress forgetting we have a president who did not know he has a VETO power until Democrats became majority in congress.
IGNORANTS.

Edgier…. Does that mean they will be telling bigger lies, distorting the facts even more or just bashing Obama even more? I'm sure it means there will be no intelligent discussion of the issues and McCain's plan to address them.

If McCain wants to talk about the economy, why is he having the woman who basically drove Hewlett Packard into the ground and was forced out of the company up there as some sort of expert? Oh … right … female. Forgot about the whole pandering thing.

The speeches tonight should flow nicely from a couple former female CEO's to McCain's running mate, who doesn't believe in equal pay for equal work.

Awwwwwkward.

Reading you Obamabots is scary that people can be so dumb and misinformed on so many levels.

Obamabots are so childish they TODAY RELEASED her social security number (enough of it to easily figure it out).

Sorry bots, Palin has a RECORD of DOING and your "hero" has been running for president since he got in the Senate with no record of anything except voting for giving Doctor's the right to MURDER babies that had the audacity to survive an abortion attempt.

She has been vetted more in six days than Obamabi has in 2 years as Rezco, Ayers etc, etc all prove.

The media was kicked dragging and screaming into reporting on Wright and now ignore his "political Godfather" calling Hilary delegates "Uncle Toms", his staff members picking out Muslim women from photo-ops BECAUSE THEY WERE MUSLIM.

Joe Biden's Son and Brother are being sued for ripping people off and we READ or HEAR nothing about that……

Plagarism anyone, Joe, how about you, you also got kicked out for cheating in college?

Michael from Forsyth County, GA   September 3rd, 2008 3:49 pm ET

The McCain-Bush team have no choice but to go negative. The Republicans have occupied the White House for almost eight years and have accomplished nothing. Since McCain and Bush have no record of achievement to run on, they must attack their opponents with lies and fear.

CM   September 3rd, 2008 3:49 pm ET

Republicans run Washington now. They're the ones that are broken how come they only now see this and want to fix it? Before they were happy to go along with the 'broken system'.

It really is surprising to see how some are caught up with the fairytales and whatever the GOP says is right bs. They defend the party regardless of their stance or decisions. Thats the epitome of kool-aid drinkers.

Look forward to at least 4 years of opposition guys. The DNC is taking this one, both the WH and Congress.

Steve   September 3rd, 2008 3:48 pm ET

Gonna be more of the same from McCain. He has nothing to offer, no ideas of his own, and he's completely blown any integrity he ever had with his ridiculous VP pick, so all that's left is to slander Obama. That may fire up his base a bit, but I think it's going to turn off everyone else - independents, moderates, etc.

But, go ahead, carry on. McCain's camp haven't done anything right yet, so why stop them now?

Concerned Citizen, IN   September 3rd, 2008 3:47 pm ET

I wonder how many times Giuliani will use the None + Verb + 9/11 sentence structure tonight. Per usual I would expect the Republicans to preach about democrats raising taxes and allowing terror attacks sprinkled with some verbiage about retreat and surrender.

The problem when Republicans discuss how Washington is broken is that they are the party that broke it. This is the party that gave six minutes to the sitting president and half of their congressmen did not even attend the convention to stay away from him. If their policies are so strong, why are they running from their administration?

The Republicans are pretending as if we have had 8 years of Democratic administration in which two wars were started, the housing market collapsed, the economy spiraled downward, and energy prices skyrocketed. The problem with that is they were in charge for 6 of those years with a president that hasn't signed a bill in the last two years.

How stupid are we. It was the Republicans who broke it. God help us. How did this country go so bad in 8 years.

Amy Micheals   September 3rd, 2008 3:47 pm ET

They can say anything. will it be the truth. just because some one says something does not mean you should believe them. Lets remember, they are running on Reform and Change when they are the incumbent. How does the incumbent run against themselves. How do they convince the country that although they have been running things for the last 8 years we are going to fix it now. How are they going to sell they are the people of Change. I saw the convention hall last night. All I saw were a bunch of Old White Men and their wives. Obviously, they don't need change, we the American people do.

The people in that convention center are not hurting economically, so why would they want to change anything?

Why do Republicans want change?

Tonight the repugs have
"a critical look at Democrats, the speeches will address "why Washington’s broken" and how Republicans "must fix it."
WORD?! For real? Are you serious? Washington is broken becuase you yahoos have been running it for 8 YEARS! The Dems took a majority in congress but they did not take control. The Senate is still divided and that is where good bills go to die. Republicans are the problem and the only way to fix it, is through the American voter. The American voter must vote Democratic this year if they really want to "fix it"
AND THE REPUGS WOULDN'T KNOW EDGY IF THEY SAT ON THE EDGE OF A LEDGE AT THE EDGE OF THE BUILDING ON THE EDGE OF TOWN!

I wish luck to all of the people who will attempt to look at the GOP convention. I can't stand it

Americans are struggling to cope with the fastest rise in the cost of living as one in every 464 US households face the real risk of losing their homes as foreclosures rose by 55% in July. Consumer prices rose by 0.8 per cent in July - twice the rate expected.

I tell ya…You know it's getting to the point where you can't even spend 2 TRILLION on Two Wars half way around the world these days without it effecting the economy.

What is the world coming to? Gee Wiz.

Note: To whoever the spineless censor is at CNN who continues to not publish my comments - here comes another one! Maybe you can prove you're not spineless and actually print this one. Afterall, you'll look good to all the bloggers who actually think CNN is about fairness and ethical reporting.
Anyway, bottom line on this GOP vs media thing - the person Republicans should be outraged at is John McCain! He put every GOP pundit and delegate on the defensive because he made a horrible mistake in judgement in selecting Palin.
He has shown the nation the destructive and self-serving nature of his maverick behavior. He ignored his staff when they told him Palin would be a mistake. Is that how he will listen to the Joint Chiefs of Staff?
McCain has shown that apparently he thinks he, and only he, knows everything! That's why he's out of touch with the people of America - he doesn't listen!
The saddest victims of his maverick arrogance is the Palin family. John McCain put them in an impossible situation. They should be quietly home in Alaska today eating moose stew.
Instead, the Republicans are trying to cover for John McCain's incompetence and poor judgement. Guess what - when you leave the spin cycle in St. Paul and step out into your home states, you're going to be surpised to learn that the American people already know that McCain screwed this up big time. And to paraphrase another AZ maverick, "In your heart, you know he's WRONG!"

HONESTLY, can you DROWN in your hypocrisy? Is that a physical concern?

Joseph L.   September 3rd, 2008 3:35 pm ET

Well if the speeches do get edgier I hope that Larry King actually allows the Democrats to Respond tonight like he did for the Republicans all last week. I mean all last week all we heard on Larry King was Republican after Republican spouting talking points with no opportunity for Democratic response but this week… Day 1 - Oh the convention was cut short so we have to have Republicans on to defend the Sarah Palin pick… Day 2 - First they wanted to have John McCain on the show; I don't remember Obama being on last week? Then we get to have an Independent, Jesse Ventura, who doesn't support either candidate and didn't even watch the Convention on the entire show so that Democrats have to spend most of their time debating him instead of getting to talk about the lies that the Republicans said in their speechs last night…

For one Obama NEVER voted to withhold funding to the troops. He, and the Democrats, tried to add timelines to the funding but in the end they never kept funding from the troops. If this is going to be your definition of witholding funds then it was in fact Bush that vetoed a bill that would have funded the troops because it had timelines so why don't the Republicans talk about that?

the real Abby   September 3rd, 2008 3:35 pm ET

CHANGE??????? BO - null null - otherwise known as Dr. NO!

"CHANGE"……What I Believe BO's Definition of Change Is!

C = COMMUNISM
H = HATRED
A = ABORTION
N = NEGATIVE
G = GREED
E = ELITISM

"Change" is fleeting! Positive and Negative - Good and Bad. Obama's self-serving "change" born from contempt and controversy, is like a wrecker destroying in a day or two, what it took noble builders - our founding fathers - years to construct.

The tale of the sinister scorpion, mirrors BO's blueprint of deceit.

The scorpion, a poor swimmer, asked the turtle to carry him across the river. "Are you mad?" exclaimed the turtle. "While swimming, you'll sting me and I'll drown."
Laughed the scorpion, "If I sting you, you would drown and I would go down with you. Where is the logic in that?"
"You're right. Hop on!" said the turtle.
Halfway across the river, the scorpion gave the turtle a mighty sting. As they both sank to the bottom, the turtle resignedly asked, "You said there'd be no logic in stinging me. Why did you do it?"
"It has nothing to do with logic," the drowning scorpion replied. "IT'S JUST MY CHARACTER."

Really, let's get down to Business   September 3rd, 2008 3:30 pm ET

Bring it on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Up until now, your speeches have been boring and lukewarm with no substance…unless you can call Fred Thompson's rant on Obama "red meat".
Frankly, if you took away his slightly dishonest criticisms of Obama and reflected on how he presented real issues and the Republican approach to handling them, he failed miserably. Just another has-been looking for 15 minutes of fame.

I don't expect Guliani to do much either except try to be a smart aleck since that's what he does best. Sarah Palin will have her hands full trying to convince people that she has the substance needed to be President when John can't do it any more.

Surprise me please, and talk about the Republican Platform and why you have chosen to support the measures in it. Frankly, I don't believe that your argument about why McCain/Palin is a better choice than Obama/Biden is very convincing. Especially in view of the fact that McCain has a much greater chance of being unable to perform his duties that either Obama. And since McCain has never worked before with Palin (unlike Obama and Biden) and, in fact, has only had a couple of conversations together, I can't see her stepping in, being consulted with or having anything important to do with the McCain administration.

Please prove to us that McCain/Palin are more than "soulmates" and that she is capable of handing the Senate, and Presidential responsibilites. I really don't see it, I don't care how many moose she's skinned or basketball games she's won.

randy   September 3rd, 2008 3:30 pm ET

How do the democrats "spoil" the end of the republican convention as the republicans "spoiled" the democratic convention?

Start introducing who Obama cabinet choices. Put the McCain's judgement on leadership on the spot be making him make more picks.

Bill   September 3rd, 2008 3:29 pm ET

Instead of trying to contrast the two candidates personally, why won't the republicans address the issues the way the democrats did during their convention. As a republican, I really used to like McCain and thought that he would have done a terrific job 8 years ago. However, times have changed and so have my feelings about McCain. This country (and I'm to blame for voting for W) is in critical condition. It needs something that McCain can't give it…a breath of fresh air. That's why this republican will be voting for change in November. GObama.

PS. McCain, Leiberman, Guiliani, et al., you are beginning to look stale in comparison to the democrats. Our party needs new leaders. Hopefully Palin will come out of the campaign a strong enough candidate to run and win 4-8 years from now. She gives this party renewed hope. Unfortunately, when you mix the stale with the fresh, it still smells and taste stale.

Ted   September 3rd, 2008 3:28 pm ET

Sacto Joe   September 3rd, 2008 3:28 pm ET

Look, the big story is the flip-flop of Senator McCain in choosing a person with far less experience in government than Senator Obama.

Personally, I don't think government or whatever experience is the important thing. But what IS important is the fact that one candidate will say or do anything to get elected, and the other is a true straight-shooter.

GO BAMA!

Guilliani, pull no punches and tell it like it is. I can even make a strong argument why Palin would be better presidential material than Obama as POTUS.

FACT: The majority of elected U.S. Presidents have been former governors. Here is one reason: they are accustomed to making executive decisions on a daily basis and they are held accountable. Senators, on the other hand, only deliberate on issues that they want to take a position on…BIG DIFFERENCE, folks. Whether you like it or not, that makes Sarah more qualified to be POTUS than the header person on the Dem ticket….sorry!!! All Obama has done is talk, write and vote "present" on the majority of issues before the State Legislature and spent most of his time as a US Senator running for president, and you fools bought it. (P.S. I voted for Obama in the Calif. primary, but that was before information about him came to light and I wised up.)

Just give me the facts, not the attacks.

How does party plan to fix the problemed economy that was caused by your administration for the last 8 years? You can attack Obama all you want, that doesn't tell me what you intend to do for the American people who so desperately need change.

R.I.F.   September 3rd, 2008 3:22 pm ET

Attack Attack Attack. McCain's campaign manager has already said that this election is not about the ISSUES and tonight you will see that thought process in full effect. Unfortunatly for the out of touch Repulicans, this election is about the issues. The economy is a mess, we are fighting two wars, kids can't afford to go to college, people are dying from illnesses because they can't afford healthcare and all the Reublicans want to do is attack the person who is talking about issues. The GOP could not be any more out of touch than they are right now. This will play well in the hall tonight but I'm pretty sure that independents will be turned off.

Too Funny...   September 3rd, 2008 3:22 pm ET

So the republicans are saying the media stories about Palin are a "faux scandal"… From the party that brought you Swift Boating!

CauseNEffect   September 3rd, 2008 3:22 pm ET

The Democrats didn't have to say anything like this to promote themselves! They just went out and gave the speeches!

If someone tells you that you're about to get a surprise, doesn't that dull the surprise a bit? Why would anyone who really had "edginess" announce themselves like this? That's like saying "I'm a charmer, and I'm turnin' it all on for you, darlin'!"… Not gonna work.

And doesn't this announcement give you that "my husband's about to give me a set of golf clubs and a six-pack for my birthday" kind of feeling???

LET THE "RACIST" BEGIN: Dobson's Moral leadership, McCain, Thompson, and Gulianracist

FRED THOMPSON GAVE A REALLY ROUSING AND SPLENDID SPEECH LAST NIGHT . FOLKS GIVE IT ANOTHER TURN AND READ IT. IT REALLY UNMASKED THE DEMS CANDIDATE ABOUT HIS INEXPERIENCE AND LACK OF CREDENTIALS TO BE PRESIDENT . AMERICA CANNOT AFFORD TO TAKE A RISKY CHOICE FOR PRESIDENT A MAN WHO IS SO UNQUALIFIED.
AMERICANS NEED A COMMANDER IN CHIEF WITH EXPERIENCE.
AND THAT OF COURSE IS JOHN MCCAIN

Guliani was joined by his 10th wife, Judith…

No offense, but is there anybody more irrelevant than Rudy Guliani?

Is Giuliani going to tell us how patriotic he is because he was mayor of NYC on 9/11 and he ventured down to ground zero after the attacks. Another two faced Republican fraud.

Tim Moore   September 3rd, 2008 3:19 pm ET
