Gov. Palin's record is highlighted in a new ad from the McCain campaign.
Gov. Palin's record is highlighted in a new ad from the McCain campaign.

(CNN) – Sen. John McCain touts his reputation as a political maverick and he is moving quickly to cement the same image for his running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

The McCain campaign’s latest ad, “Alaska Maverick,” compares Palin not to Sen. Joe Biden, her counterpart on the Democratic ticket, but to the party’s presidential nominee, Sen. Barack Obama. “She's ‘earned a reputation as a reformer’ His reputation? Empty words,” an announcer says just before the 30-second ad ends.

The campaign said the ad would air in “key states.”

The launch of “Alaska Maverick” comes hours before Palin’s speech before the Republican convention Wednesday night.

(Full script after the jump)

Script For "Alaska Maverick" (TV :30)

ANNCR: The Journal says: "Governor Palin's credentials as an agent of reform exceed Barack Obama's."

They're right.

She "has a record of bi-partisan reform."

He's the Senate's "most liberal."

She "took on the oil producers."

He gave big oil billions in subsidies and giveaways.

She's "earned a reputation as a reformer."

His reputation? Empty words.

JOHN MCCAIN: I'm John McCain and I approved this message.

Ah, The Seattle Times, heavy-handed tool of the right wing. I was at the "debate" they held in 2006 when Darcy Burner was running against Dave Reichert. They were the "moderator" but pretty much looked like ABC in the Democratic Presidential Debate this year. Where's the front page from the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, definitely left-leaning, but far superior in reporting from local to national news and even sports. Plus, they have David Horsey and Art Thiel.

Lesley   September 3rd, 2008 7:25 pm ET

What a sham! Now Palin is asking to have the ethics investigation taken over by a three panel board including one member that Palin appointed herself, instead of the bipartisan legislative council. Talk about the fox watching the hen house. This is outrageous! What lengths the Repubs will go to in order to stack the decks and manipulate the truth. It's shameful.

The McCain campaign’s latest ad, “Alaska Maverick,” compares Palin not to Sen. Joe Biden, her counterpart on the Democratic ticket, but to the party’s presidential nominee, Sen. Barack Obama….DUH!!!!

WHY is the no 2 pick being compared to the no 1 pick on the Dem ticket???? Because they know that she cant hold a candle to Sen Biden…and they are ATTEMPTING to show that Sen Obama should have pick Hillary….how dumb can you get….?????

Loretta from California   September 3rd, 2008 7:18 pm ET

and with every negative ad we democrats gain more points in the polls. Keep em coming.

Democrats Unite!!!!

Can someone please make these crazy right wing people go away? I mean honestly – the woman does not believe in the theory of evolution. In most nations that would be enough to disqualify you from being an elected official. America, please wake up before it's too late.

Arden   September 3rd, 2008 7:17 pm ET

Its time to bring on the Big Gun; Hillary. This is enough. Sen. Obama has been respectful, however, if Gv. Palin is already approving attack ads, its time for Sen. Obama to start his. Gov. Palin is not a Hillary Clinton and never will be. Had she won the primary, even though she wasn't the candidate of my choice, I would have voted for her. She is the most powerful WOMAN in politics. This election is to important to allow words like sexism, and gender bias to be a part of it.

Roney Ohio   September 3rd, 2008 7:07 pm ET

Matt   September 3rd, 2008 7:04 pm ET

WOW!!! The Dem's are whipped up into a frenzy. Sure is fun to watch from this Independents POV. Have fun gnashing your teeth over this. Don't you see, the Rep's are pushing your buttons with this choice, and the great part is the liberal media (especially the female hosts) seem ANGRY. Interesting emotion from a "non-bias" group.

Denise   September 3rd, 2008 7:02 pm ET

Ok…..its gonna take another woman to put this in check. Where is Hillary?

Juan from L.A   September 3rd, 2008 6:56 pm ET

I wish the Obama campaign was all over her but they are showing I guess that they don't go down to THEIR standards. Ohh they are really feeling it with their stupid decision and hypocritical acts.

Lesley   September 3rd, 2008 6:54 pm ET

What about the earmarks she took in for her mayoral town and her state? What about her support of Ted Stevens and the bridge before it became unpopular? Her work on the 527. She was for it before she against it. Obama's campaign should put out a responding ad.

lol election   September 3rd, 2008 6:51 pm ET

Obama gave oil subsidies?

now that doesn't comply with his 98% liberal voting record

Sarah Bell, Cleveland OH   September 3rd, 2008 6:42 pm ET

How dare the McCain campaign belittle the accomplishments of Senator Barack Obama. This is just a Republican scandal to destroy the first black presidential nominee. It's racist to question Obama's experience. And what flat out bigotry to raise questions about Obama's business dealings, political affiliations and his bipartisan record. Racist! Racist racist racist. (See how this works everyone?) You are witnessing the key piece of the Palin package. Use a woman to paint the entire media as sexist in the hopes that woman will be dumb enough not to see through this obvious pandering. Rallying your party base might have worked. Grabbing PUMA's ten members probably worked. But this will not work. Eat your own mooseburgers GOP. Cause I've had ENOUGH!! Anyone but McCain '08!

Linda   September 3rd, 2008 6:41 pm ET

Why are the republicans using Gov. Palin to target Sen. Obama?

Isn't this Sen. McCains job!

It makes more sense to me for the republicans to compare and contrast Gov. Palin againsT Sen. Biden, the man she will be debating soon!

Can't they prove she is a better VP candidate that Sen. Biden?

I just don't get!

chris   September 3rd, 2008 6:30 pm ET

Hillary Clinton Should be your next President. What has Obama accomplished? He has done nothing for Illinois.

Daryl from Seattle   September 3rd, 2008 6:29 pm ET

Yeah she earned her rep with reform alright…Troopergate is such a reform from the norm. Oh and let's teach creationism in schools, obviously that kind of teaching helped her daughter out sooo much.

Lesley   September 3rd, 2008 6:25 pm ET

This empty suit attack is getting old, especially now since the convention with Obama setting out the specifics of his agenda. McCain is still talking mainly about Obama and not his own campaign. Doesn't anyone wonder what his plan is all about? I don't really, but in case someone is curious, maybe he should let people know what he stands for instead of who he stands against.

WG   September 3rd, 2008 6:25 pm ET

McCain and his campaign manager need to be real for once. No matter how much McCain attempt to grabble for pieces of news that can be used to protray Palin as heroic, she is not. The issue of her pregnant daughter and potential fiancee' is a prime example. In the interest of American and this economy, who cares if her daughter marries this young football player. Why is it important that McCain is seen in a picture with her fiancee. Do the average citizen receive that kind of treatment if their daughter winds-up pregnant? I think not. This story has turned into a three-ring circus. Why are we majoring on the minor and minoring in the major? This country is in a sloping condition. We have a trillion dollar deficit and we are concerned with someone's pregnancy. Go figure.

On the convention front, Palin will come out scripted in her answers and responses to what has been in the media. What we like to know is what is her plan of action for this economy and other pertinent issues. Hopefully, she has given great thought to this issues facing the American people.

REPUTATION is Right hmm…………………..

Power to her head, watch out or she come after you!

What?   September 3rd, 2008 6:18 pm ET

Sarah is more prepared to to be VP then Obama is to be President. Obama chairs a committee and he has not held one meeting. Sarah is on………are you kidding, — Mayoral performance. Palin, who portrays herself as a fiscal conservative, racked up nearly $20 million in long-term debt as mayor of the tiny town of Wasilla — that amounts to $3,000 per resident. She argues that the debt was needed to fund improvements.

The July firing of Alaska Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan by Gov. Sarah Palin. Monegan, 57, a respected former chief of the Anchorage Police Department, said in an interview with The Washington Post's James V. Grimaldi on Friday that the governor repeatedly brought up the topic of her ex-brother-in-law, Michael Wooten, after Monegan became the state's commissioner of public safety in December 2006. Monegan also said Sarah Palin sent him e-mails on the subject, but Monegan declined to disclose them, saying he planned to give them to a legislative investigator looking into the matter. The call was recorded and was released by Palin's office this month. Todd Palin told a television reporter in Alaska that he did meet with Monegan, but said he was just "informing" Monegan about the issue, not exerting pressure.
I guess 180 days in the Senate and wondering streets of Chicago looking for ways to scam makes Obama White House worthy? to answer your question…I guess the person is White House worthy when they are a Mayor or a Governor that abuse the Power of Authority in a small town for personal reason's is WHTE HOUSE WORTHY?

Vic   September 3rd, 2008 6:14 pm ET

Senator Obama is elected to be the nominee for President. Sarah Palin is selected. There is a big difference. With Barrack Obama, you get the vision of restoring our moral stand in the world, stimulate the economy, create millions of new jobs, end our dependency on foreign oil, end the stupid war in Iraq, focus on innovation and better sources of energy for our children and grandchildren. In McCain's VP choice Sarah Palin, you sadly get a grandmother who is still breast feeding. She is not ready. Why not a better qualify woman for McCain's VP pick like Elizabeth Dole?

Republican voting for Obama/Biden 08

Patty   September 3rd, 2008 6:10 pm ET

This is really amazing to me how some American cant really hide their prejudice!

They are so willing to vote for Sara Palin to who no one hardly knows but Senator Obama who have been in this spot light for almost years don’t get any respects at all

I am not saying Senator Obama has all the answer to save America but his message was almost the same Hilary Clinton need I say more

And the so call Hilary Clinton supports blogging daily saying you now voting for the Republicans my conclusion is you never believe the message Hilary was about cause if you did you would never vote for the Republicans but it seems you better have four more years of war and bad economy that voting for a African American

Yes it is a few countries and everyone is free to vote for whom they please but please leave Senator Clinton out your conversation and stop making excuse why you are voting for John McCain

Nik   September 3rd, 2008 6:10 pm ET

The tactics by McCain are a gimmick and Americans are falling for it. Americans allowed Rove's tactics to put Bush in for 8 years and it appears that we'll have another 4 years of economic hardship under McCain. His entire "fix" for the economy is the cut taxes so the rich will continue their lifestyle thereby keeping the economy thriving and to cut wasteful spending in Washington. Do you really think rich people's spending habits and wasteful spending will get us out of the trillions of dollars of debt? If there's so much wasteful spending in Washington, why don't McCain demonstrate he places the "Country First" by refunding his social security check and not taking his public office pay check…he can afford it.

Tyrone Brown   September 3rd, 2008 6:08 pm ET

Meg Whitman, the former Ebay CEO who John McCain has named one of the three wisest people he knows, apparently didn't get his latest campaign memo. She tells Fox News, "I wouldn't say there really has" been any sexism in the media coverage of John McCain's vice presidential nominee. "I actually think it's completely fair for the media to vet Sarah Palin," Whitman also said.

Pat M   September 3rd, 2008 6:08 pm ET

The Republican Notion that Sarah Palin has the experience to Command the Nation in the absence of McCain (if by some miracle he is elected) is more than RIDICULOUS! And the continual replay by Republicans that she is in Command of the Alaska Military Guard is over reaching to a third degree! The military has been inactive since 2006 and maybe since 2005. And even the General stated publicly that neither he no Sarah had anything so whatsoever to do with Defence at the National Level. Google and read it for yourself. They can air their negative ads until the caribou and moose leave Alaska but it will all be in vain!

Ann   September 3rd, 2008 6:07 pm ET

SHE IS CLOSE TO RUSSIA SO SHE HAS FOREIGN POLICY EXPERIENCE.
SARAH APPALIN HAS BACHELOR DEGREE DOE THAT QUALIFY FOR VP WITH ZERO EXPERIENCE

WE JUST NEED HER TO ANSWER QUSTIONS SPECIFICALLY THAT ALL
I CANNOT BUY AN ITEM WITHOUT SEEN IT

SHE has foreign relation experience because alaska is next to russia"
She has a pastor who dams Jews and says "god will punish the US of A"
She is under state investigation.
She worked for the criminal Alascan politicians in a 527.
She has ties to the Alaska Independence Party.
This is supposed to be a "faux media scandal"? The pick of this person is the ture scandal

pamela   September 3rd, 2008 6:07 pm ET

but this is just outrageous. Surely people can see what the Republicans are dong? They choose a candidate who is imminently less tested (think of the vetting Obama went through battling the Clintons) and less qualified than Obama (don't believe that stuff about executive experience…Obama ran a campaign that beat the Clintons, after all) and then use her to go on the attack, with the caveat any Democrat who fights back is a sexist?

this is an insult, not only to women, but all all Americans. Shame.

What?   September 3rd, 2008 6:06 pm ET

I guess we are suppose to be FOOLS………….Do you honestly think you are helping Clinton become President of by voting for McCain VP pick (male or Female)? If so, please take a minute and think. 1. Why would McCain pick a woman this election when he flaunted men for weeks? 2.Why would the GOP go after your votes if they are not going to use them against Hillary in 2012? 3. Would the GOP allow Hillary a chance to beat a woman that has groomed to lie, cheat and mislead you in 2008? 4. Is the Republican party going to let Hillary be President after selling the ideal that their candidate made history? 5. Will McCain and camp not use Palin experience as VP and maybe President to beat Hillary in 2012? 6. Will they use Hillary campaign finances problems in 2008, against her so the White House continue with a GOP in office? 7. Her supporters will be used as their (GOP) escape goat to excuse the way they will treat and degrade her in 2012.
This election should tell you how they will continue to play the pity games with the voters, just imagine what they will come up with in 2012………….

Cathy   September 3rd, 2008 6:03 pm ET

How is being so pro-life even in the cases of rape and incest and only teaching abstinence in school…bi-partisan.

With all do respect, REALITY CHECK…as you have learned the hard way only teaching abstinence doesn't work!!!!

Palin is way to conservative for the modern women of America!!!!

Alaskan Girl   September 3rd, 2008 6:02 pm ET

All of this talk is pretty interesting, but I will look at words and see if there has ever been any action. As an Alaskan, I know exactly what Governor Palin has done here. The talking points against Gov. Palin come straight from a blog by Andrew Halcro, a man who ran against Sarah Palin for the governor slot and only gained 9% of the vote. He has an agenda and will stop at nothing, and the entire state of Alaska knows it and laughs at him (as evidenced by Gov. Palin's 86% approval rating). It is too bad that the media has not done any real investigating for so long that they have not learned these things: Alaska broke its record for foreign trade with Gov. Palin ($4 billion), Alaska has the 6th biggest GDP in the US, and Alaska has important relationships with Canada and China (there are articles on the internet about Gov. Palin meeting with leaders in Canada about the Alaska/Yukon Accord and the top health official of China meeting with Gov. Palin in Alaska). Gov. Palin received 114,697 votes for Governor of Alaska, a hotly contested race in which former Democrat governor Tony Knowles had the help of current Obama advisor Anita Dunn, while Sentor Joe Biden had 135,253 votes as an incumbent senator in Delaware in 2002. Just some interesting things that we know in Alaska that others don't even bother to find out.

Monica for Obama in Indiana   September 3rd, 2008 5:58 pm ET

Obama is running against mccain for President not palin. If she wants to face off with someone it should be Biden. Unless the republicans have fell so in love with her that they will give her the nomination instead of mccain.

Erika, KS   September 3rd, 2008 5:54 pm ET

Anyone but Obama. He's in it to stroke his ego. Period. I cant' stand anything about him. His lack of experience and zero accomplishment while in Congress. Questionable "friendships" back home in Chicago. Racist wife (go read that thesis). Why is it ok for a Presidential candidate in Obama, with limited experience, is just fine, but you've got to have thirty six years in Congress to be a good VP candidate?

Obama's been running around the country for the past 18 months chanting "change," Change," "CHANGE!!!" Well, Sarah Palin IS that Change he's been talking about! Go Sarah and John.

WeBoDave   September 3rd, 2008 5:53 pm ET

McCain and Palin's idea of reform is standing up to special interests when it furthers their political career. Senator McCain and Governor Palin do not take positions today that are not popular with their base, conservative republicans. Conservative Republicans hold views on most isues that the majority of Americans disagree with.

McCain=Bush, 8 is enough   September 3rd, 2008 5:45 pm ET

This is just idiotic, palin is not running for president, and cannot be compared to Obama. I am insulted that mcshame is comparing her to Obama. Obama has earned the right through all his hard work. Palin is coming in at the 11th hour with no experience on the economy, foreign policy the housing crises or anything else and trying to be a substitute for Hillary. She is an opportunist and she should be ashamed of herself.

I guess 180 days in the Senate and wondering streets of Chicago looking for ways to scam makes Obama White House worthy? Most liberal Senator for 180 days and nothing to show but a Reverend Wright who he claimed to never hear once after 18 years as a member of that Church speak racist and hate comments about USA. Let's see…then the bomber he likes to call his friend and then the indicted friend he got a million from for his house. God help us if this unqualified closet racist gets in the White House!
Senator Thompson was correct in saying Obama is for taxing businesses not the middle or low income/ so unless you work for a business or buy from a business you won't feel that crunch! Ideas with no substance.

Oh, she's QUITE the reformer. That's why she has to try to squelch trooper-gate (using state money for her attorney) until after the general election. If McCain thought Campbell Brown was too hard on Tucker Bounds as she asked the most basic questions about Palin's alleged experience, he's going to have a very hard time over the next two months.
His POW story has bought him special coddling from the press, but it won't transfer to his new beauty queen.

Darrel from Denver   September 3rd, 2008 5:28 pm ET

Why stop with Palin? Clearly, there is little requirement for any job in the Republican regime. Reagan was an actor, Bush is a simpleton, Palin is the Mayor of some hamlet in the nether regions of the country, not even connected physically to the continental US. McCain is a belligerent, carpet bagging, former POW.

Anyone with Burger King experience can expected to be called any day now for a job in McCain's cabinet.

My resume' is updated and I expect I will be the most qualified person in the US for Secretary of State. No need to vett me on this. McCain doesn't need to meet me. He and I were in the same city recently. Close enough for vetting work.

If Obama had released this ad, saying these things about Palin, can you imagine the fuss the McCain campaign would raise? They would claim it was vicious sexism. I find it more interesting to note how far off message McCain has been pulled at this point. he is scrambling to find anything to help him recover in this election. He doesn't have a clear message anymore. It seems he now wants his main message to be about reform. Well, the old John McCain WAS a maverick, and maybe could have led some reforms. Unfortunately, McCain has given up on being a maverick in order to gain the support of the Republican base. The old McCain wouldn't have done that. Unfortunately, the older McCain is just more of the same Republican BS.

you know I watched the 4 day extravaganza aka dem convention in hopes to get a list of changes Obama has brought about over his 8 yrs in the state legislature and 2 active years in the Senate… yet not one speaker not even Obama himself gave me one change he has made?

Palin is obviously more experienced for VP than Obama is for the Presidency… perhaps his loyal followers should question the experience and changes brought about by the top of their ticket before questioning the bottom of the Rep ticket… lol

Business experience: Palin – yes. Obama -NO
Executive experience: Palin- yes. Obama-NO

Obama: US senator for two years, most of which he ran for president.
Palin: Governor for two years, all of which she did her job!

Palin clearly has better experience!

Well of course they would compare Sarah to Obama… it proves that she is just one melanoma away from the presidency. So sad…

Stella   September 3rd, 2008 4:56 pm ET

America – why aren't you angry – I have your answer: FEAR. Remember what Obama said, "They are going to make you afraid of me." He was oh so right on that one. They are afraid of a brilliant african american whether they be male or female. It's always been that way. Nothing new. Get used to the double-standard being applied; sadly I am.

Sylvia   September 3rd, 2008 4:56 pm ET

"She earned her reputation as a reformer" was all made up by Palin. There is an article in the HuffingtonPost that her experience has been exaggerated. Please read it.

KC   September 3rd, 2008 4:55 pm ET

No please we don't need more cowboys running this country. Hey heres a thought, how about some one who is educated, thoughtful, eloquent someone with great judgement….hmm and not a republican.

ran   September 3rd, 2008 4:54 pm ET

The answer to this people is simple.Vote for Obama/Biden and only other Democrats and these republicans will go away .

We will then have our country back.

NoMcSame   September 3rd, 2008 4:54 pm ET

Did they give the redneck a piss test? Wonder what kind of guy is near McSames VP pick? On his myspace he looked like a pot smokin redneck to me, not the clean cut ReThuglican trickster.

DFoster700, Georgia   September 3rd, 2008 4:52 pm ET

Let's get this straight. Barack Obama has proved himself worthy of our respect and our votes for President of the United States of America. He fought one of the longest, hardest battles in the history of this country, and against probably one of the most qualified persons to ever come into our politics, Hillary Clinton … and he won. Yes Hillary got 18 million votes, but so did Barack. We can't look past that. He did win and he is one of the most respectful people I've ever heard speak. He is the best choice right now.

Palin has earned anything, yet people want to say she is more qualified than Obama … Give Me A Break!!!

His education alone outqualifies Palin. No one wants a reporter that close to the White House. She's got nothing to offer this country. She knows absolutely no foriegn leaders and only a couple here in the states. How could McCain be so stupid as to pick such an unqualified person and then try to justify the mistake.

Mary   September 3rd, 2008 4:51 pm ET

So how come CNN is not reporting that Ms. Palin was in church when her preacher told the members that Israel gets what its deserves when it is attacked because they are un-Christian. Take that to Florida, John McCain.

w.l. jones   September 3rd, 2008 4:50 pm ET

If we in trouble we hire a empty suite. Said enough.

PBDenver   September 3rd, 2008 4:50 pm ET

You say Sarah like you even know her I bet you didn't know she existed a week ago, check yourself…
No one is attacking her, just her hate filled polices… Women deserve the rights to say what happens with their bodies… So much for small government (more like big brother) Support the unborn but do nothing about genocide (Bush) hypocrites make me sick
Also killing wolves from a plane, how screwed up is that?
Abusing power in her first year in government… the list goes on and on…

Really   September 3rd, 2008 4:49 pm ET

Interesting political game that is being played here. Comparing Obama to Palin and vice versa. Isn't Obama running for President and Palin VP? I guess Obama may be suited for a VP slot but he can not even compare to McCain.

zydeco D   September 3rd, 2008 4:49 pm ET

So now she is running for president and mccain is running for VP?
How much did Bristols baby daddy get paid to show up?

Kenn Amdahl   September 3rd, 2008 4:48 pm ET

The happiest person in the country right now is Hillary. She’s been wanting a brawl for a long time but didn’t want to pick on the nice old war hero too much, or the young fellow who got the promotion she wanted because they play for the same team. She’s in shape, she’s rested, she’s ready, she's been holding back until after the RNC convention.

Now this little kitty steps into the ring. I can picture Hillary tossing Barack and Biden out of her way as she says, no way, boys. This one’s mine.

Philllip   September 3rd, 2008 4:47 pm ET

Why is this ad so blatantly empty of any specifics on those things they're claiming Palin has done?

Oh, that's right! Because her entire political career consists of being the mayor of a town just a bit larger than my HIGH SCHOOL for a couple of years, being the governor of Alaska for 20 MONTHS, and suing the Bush Administration for protecting polar bears because it prevented her from drilling for oil!

Silly me.

Michael   September 3rd, 2008 4:47 pm ET

Please dont let her withdraw from the ticket or be dismissed from the ticket until AFTER the debate with Biden!! We didnt watch this past 17 months of campaigning to be denied the entertainment of watching her drive the McCain ticket into a wall.

albert, RI   September 3rd, 2008 4:47 pm ET

the american people have voted for obama. we did not choose Palin.

SHE WAS HANDPICKED BY A MAN.

Marc   September 3rd, 2008 4:45 pm ET

Looks like Obama shouldn't even be running for VP much less for the presidency. I'm encouraging all my friends and neighbors here in the swing state of Virginia to vote Republican come Fall.

Chris Clark   September 3rd, 2008 4:45 pm ET

Ha! I love this LT for Obama! You don't think that Obama will hire those friendly to his campaign to fill roles if he wins the White House?

I encourage you to keep as innocent as you are my friend. Actually, no, please pursue an in depth study of politics but be sure to have some good soap and hot water when you are done. In both parties its a dirty and corrupt game that we all pay to watch and in the end we all lose.

Fort Collins,Colorado   September 3rd, 2008 4:43 pm ET

And these people want to run America!! Scary! They are so negative and silly! They keep saying Obama has no experience to be President, they are wrong AGAIN. Just like everything else they have done and said the last eight years. ENOUGH! Obama/Biden 08

America - why aren't you angry?   September 3rd, 2008 4:42 pm ET

Why isn't anyone fighting against this blatant racism! How dare they denigrate the first AA to be the Dem nominee? By standing by and letting them do so – YOU, yes YOU, are part of the racism. Sen. Obama has proven is brilliance, leadership, legislative, and executive abilities. Come on people – just as of recent… did ya forget…Clinton went bankrupt while he managed a record breaking 50 Million dollar a month campaign with over 2500 employees. And don't ignore his 11 years in public office.

I call it racist. Why… because "they say" we must respect Hillary and Sarah's historical contributions. However, Sen. Obama's historical contribution is being denigrated and compared to a bunch of empty words. DO NOT LET THEM GET AWAY WITH THIS. DO NOT LET THEM TAKE THIS HISTORICAL ACHIEVEMENT AWAY FROM THE PUBLIC! STAND UP and be HEARD!

Bill   September 3rd, 2008 4:41 pm ET

Gov. Palin is being compared to Obama to illustrate that she, as a vp candidate, is more qualified than he, as a presidential candidate. Seems very clear.

Keith COrnelius   September 3rd, 2008 4:40 pm ET

Questioning Sarah is one thing attacking her is another, which is exactly what the media is doing. Sarah is more prepared to to be VP then Obama is to be President. Obama chairs a commitee and he has not held one meeting. Sarah is on the commission for Energy and Conservation and has held many meetings. Obama was a community organizer….can anybody tell me what that is and what his accomplishments were…Is it a person who organizes neighborhood garage sales or cake bake sales…what is it………..Ask any Democrat what Change Obama is talking about and no democrat can answer including the crazy ones in the streets especially those guys there protesting as an excuse to create damage to store fronts…Liberalism at work….very sad indeed…..

Former Hillary Supporter and Demcrat supporting the Republican Ticket of McCain and Palin the next president and Vice president of the United States…….

Your kidding right?

Deflecting the attention away from McCain much?

A first term gov. of 5700 people with ongoing corruption investigations, personally using state funds is experienced to the GOP I guess.

Maverick? Sure. It didn't take her very long to dodge the law now did it?

Peace.

Alaska Independence   September 3rd, 2008 4:38 pm ET

I look forward to Alaska finally being independent from the United States.
Thank you Palin, for your support of the Alaska Independence Party
We will secede!

What a joke. this really is" Wag the Dog" great movie it explains everythink King Georege and King John want.

She should at least have her own TV reality show. My Family is a mess. My Husband wants to start a new Country, My daughter is having a child at 17, I am still having Kids in my 40s (I already had 4), but I am going to be VP of the United States.

John way to go your due diligence took about an hour.

The surge is working, because everyone left town!!!!!!

PBDenver   September 3rd, 2008 4:36 pm ET

VOTE OBAMA HOOAH!

PBDenver   September 3rd, 2008 4:36 pm ET

And I am ex-military and wore my uniform with pride, but we are mostly voting Obama because McCain keeps using the military as a crutch to imply that he is the only one deserving to be a patriot becuse he landed in a prison and did what any other soldier would have done to survive… and we are sick of him calling himself a maverick, there are thousands of people who have died because he did not learn the most important lesson Vietnam taught… don't send people to die for no good reason!

We get it, he suffered in the POW camp… many other people in all walks of life (military and non-military) suffer everyday because of the abuse of power of the Bush administrations policies… If anyone ran a company for eight years like the republicans they would straight up be fired… That is what has to happen in November, if only to tell the rest of the world we do not stand with the republicans!

LT for Obama   September 3rd, 2008 4:33 pm ET

A reformer who has is under investigation in two cases for abuse of power? Way to go.

Sarah, tell us about how you helped Tom Lamal get his Fairbanks job? Under investigation since Aug 6 for this one and noone is talking about it. WHY?????

LGriff   September 3rd, 2008 4:33 pm ET

MCCAIN OUGHT TO BE ASHAME OF HIMSELF EXPLOITING LITTLE EXPERIENCE HIS VP PICK HAS. IS HE ALREADY CONSIDERING HIMSELF ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE TO BE COMPARING HER AGAINST BARACK OBAMA. IN HER SPEECH SHE GIVES TONIGHT IF SHE COMES OUT BLASTING OBAMA/BIDEN THEN THE GLOVES SHOULD COME OFF AS FAIR GAME BECAUSE THEY HAVE GIVEN HER THE UP MOST RESPECT.

We need no problems at the poll.

Yes We Can Do This!!…..

How does CNN determine who gets posted?   September 3rd, 2008 4:29 pm ET

Hopefully, Obama/Biden won't underestimate this woman. She's tough and smart. She didn't get where she is today by dumb luck.

That being said, the Dems (only the white ones, no matter how "progressive" America is, they still won't tolerate a black man doing or saying anything to/for/or against a white woman) must hammer not only McCain but Palin as well; especially on their domestic policies.

I'm praying that McCain/Palin lose the election. Their policies will negatively affect every non-wealthy American for years to come. It's almost certain that anyone with children 16 and up will end up sacrificing them for a war somewhere in this world.

KenB, MI   September 3rd, 2008 4:29 pm ET

The difference here is night and day.

When you label Obama as a celebrity and yes we all would have to agree that there is a bit of celebrity in politics.

In as much as the aforementioned is true for Obama we could label the Alaskan Gov. as Hype…when mostly fiction is being served as mostly fact.

I'll take a real political star over a hyped up maverick any day.

RYAN kr Jr   September 3rd, 2008 4:28 pm ET

Crap, Crap, crap what next????????????????????

The next Ad will be how the couragious McPalin led a Surge against the wolves in Alaska using Helicopter Gunships. The Surge worked my friends. But Obama was against the Surge to defeat terrorist Alaskan Wolves.

Sharon- Birmingham, Al   September 3rd, 2008 4:26 pm ET

when the democrats come out with similar ads, they will be blamed with sexism. why do Biden have to tip-toe around her in the debate if she is so strong and powerful? when you run for office you have to be ready for anything even if you are a woman. The Obama camp should hit back hard as long as they are hitting back with the truth.

PB Denver   September 3rd, 2008 4:26 pm ET

When will the Repblicans get that Obama's words are our words

over 2 million donated / over 30 million in the primary

and we ain't eliteist and we ain't voting for the Christian Right Wing nutballs… get over it – your Maverick pandered to the right wing… you lose every ability to call yourself a maverick mccain… your a POW, you dealt with that situation with honor… but today you sit on the right of GW Bush…

Pathetic…and completely expected.

Nobama   September 3rd, 2008 4:26 pm ET

RE: "The Lady"

Why?

Because we're sick of the leftist media trying to destroy Palin because (oh no!) her daughter is pregnant.

She blows the doors off Obama with real accomplishments and she never kicked off her career in the livingroom of an American terrorist nor voted "present" like a gutless wonder as good ol' Barry did.

brenda   September 3rd, 2008 4:25 pm ET

when did obama ever ever ever GOVERN a city or a state? GOVERNING a people, no matter how small or large, is called EXECUTIVE experience. palin has it, obama and biden, and mccain, do not. case closed.

jackjohnny   September 3rd, 2008 4:25 pm ET

Hey, she's been governor of Alaska for almost 2 years! Before that, she was a sportscaster. That's mixing apple pie and baseball right there, which every American loves. POW. 9/11. Palin 2009 – Just a heartbeat away!

Ben   September 3rd, 2008 4:25 pm ET

A reformer who uses state money to defend herself!!..Thats what you call a reformer?…Americans are tired of all the Republicans BS!..More Rs will vote for Obama cause they believe in the truth….McCain is far from that!

A model, an "exotic dancer," a cheerleader, and a beauty queen – John McCain's view of what makes a woman valuable.

Anonymous   September 3rd, 2008 4:22 pm ET

Someone should ask Palin how she would feel if her daughter decided to have an abortion, and if she decided that, would Palin be comfortable making her own daughter a criminal.

Charlie Black   September 3rd, 2008 4:21 pm ET

So wait a second, who is on the top of the GOP ticket now?

Brandon In NC   September 3rd, 2008 4:21 pm ET

Steve in DC   September 3rd, 2008 4:20 pm ET

Alright Mcshame…you asked for it. Now when they respond we shouldnt hear any sexist or misogynistic cries.

Rachel   September 3rd, 2008 4:19 pm ET

Sarah Palin is running for VP.

Barack Obama is running for PRESIDENT.

Two different positions. Why are they comparing her to him? Are they expecting John McCain to kick the bucket sometime soon?

This ad was just STUPID.

Marie L   September 3rd, 2008 4:19 pm ET

The McCain campaign is playing a calculated game orchestrated by Steve Schmidt (ROVE CLONE). They are blaming the liberal media and the left simply because we question Sarah Palin on her qualifications and her stand on issues. This is not true, do not let them get away with it! The media is not against Sarah Palin and the Democrats as well as independents do not like her simply because she is female. How dare they cry sexist because we criticize her. These are their talking points and they are not true. The reason many many do not like her is that she is extremely far to the right (she makes George Bush look like a liberal) and she is simply not ready to be vice president, let alone president.
Everyone needs to be aware of the games the McCain campaign is playing in attempt to get the media to back off and for people to be quiet. We will not be silenced. Sarah Palin and John McCain are dangerous for America!

Cindy   September 3rd, 2008 4:17 pm ET

Rots of ruck, McCain. It's the voters that'll decide who the real changer is, not you.

My bet's still on Obama.

ANGEL VALDERRAMA JR., STATEN ISLAND, NY   September 3rd, 2008 4:17 pm ET

OBAMA/BIDEN-08/12

Roger from CA   September 3rd, 2008 4:17 pm ET

I am deeply disturbed by how, over the last couple Presidential elections, Republicans have tortured, twisted, and watered down the meanings of so many words.

This year, I see that they have "reform" in their sights.

They keep pounding the line that Sarah Palin is a "reformer." What, exactly, do they mean by that?

A "reformer" has to go beyond just nailing a few corrupt, fat-cat politicians in order opportunistically to score some poltical points. A "reformer" has to have the vision, the will and the ability to make systemic changes in how government works. A "reformer" must act without regard to his/her political forturnes, sharply focused on what is best for the public good.

For one thing, there is almost no way that a Sarah Palin could establish a record as a "reformer" in less than two years in office as governor. Only time can tell. And having read most available mainstream news accounts (and several "blogs") about Palin and her record, I don't see anything that rises to the level of such accomplishment.

By the way, "reformer" is also NOT the same thing as "maverick." A "maverick" does things his/her own way, but not necessarily in a way that is better or worse for the common good. Perhaps a "maverick" may also be a "reformer," but the former does not necessarily imply the latter.

gl   September 3rd, 2008 4:16 pm ET

How funny the Republs are the just keep attacking Obama, but whine about the media continually vetting Palin. Something McSame didn't do.

Keep it up McSame you are falling in the poll with your Empty words. How about you talk about the economy.

Palin surrogates to reporters – stop messing with us. well stop messing with Obama with all these stupid lying ads.

Don't point fingers and they won't get pointing back at you!

al in memphis   September 3rd, 2008 4:15 pm ET

I guess if you disagree with your party you qualify as a maverick. Well if your party is wrong on the issues and you are wrong on the issues, then doesn't that just add up to being wrong on the issues.

At some point, these political parties and MSM are going to figure out the voters want more than name calling and carefully crafted labels.

Napoleon Complex   September 3rd, 2008 4:14 pm ET

Waste of money. She'll be off the ticket by the end of September.

Curious Voter   September 3rd, 2008 4:14 pm ET

This is very sad. The Republicans seem to think that people do not research on our own. I would be willing to bet that I, as well as a few milion others, have "vetted" this lady more thouroughly than the McCain camp did. We know about her, the real deal as they say, and it is not a pretty as the McCain wants it to be.

Griff   September 3rd, 2008 4:13 pm ET

Dem #1   September 3rd, 2008 4:13 pm ET

Hey Mcshame camp don't CRY Sexiest or get Disappointed if Obama responds in his defense with a Stronger Ad to your horrible comparison of Palin to Obama when we all know Palin is not close to being as strong of a LEADER as Obama.

Carol TX   September 3rd, 2008 4:11 pm ET

He's GOT to be kidding….absolutely nothing, NOTHING in this ad is true, not about her nor about Obama.

Why don't McPOW just admit they tried to siphon off HRC voters and did not vet this woman, so since his campaign the American public deserves to know the person one heartbeat from the POTUS.

Same tricks from last elections, but won't work this time. Americans are paying attention to not only what you say but what you do.

The Lady   September 3rd, 2008 4:11 pm ET

Why are you comparing your VP to the democrat nominee? This just does not make sense McCain, but then again I have to consider the source. This is an election for the president not the VP.

Ed Brooks   September 3rd, 2008 4:10 pm ET

What really bothers me is that no reporter, debate monitor or news investigator has had the courage to ask any of the candidates if they can honestly justify the high gas prices in this era of astronomical oil company profits. If they can't, could they tell us what they plan to do about this seemingly blatant price gouging that the American public is forced to endure? If they can "justify" it , I know where my vote will go!!!

Joe Idaho   September 3rd, 2008 4:10 pm ET

what was she reforming in Alaska seals? ahahahahahaha what a joke

Michelle, PA   September 3rd, 2008 4:09 pm ET

What about the $500 million in subsidies and giveaways Sarah Palin gave to Big Oil? Her lawsuit against the Federal Government to take the polar bear off the Endangered Species list to Big Oil could drill in their melting habitat? Not to mention the lobbyists hired to procure millions in earmarks, flip-flop on the Bridge to Nowhere, long and recent ties to a secessionist movement, and serving on the board of Ted Stevens' 527. Oh, and now not one but two abuse of power scandals……

She's earned quite a reputation all right.

Paying Attention   September 3rd, 2008 4:09 pm ET

hA, HA, HA, HA, HA!

Debby   September 3rd, 2008 4:03 pm ET

Good add but they should run one against Biden since he voted 1% less than McCain with Bush.

Barack Obama Is Our 44th president   September 3rd, 2008 4:03 pm ET

You need to know that your lies against Sen. Obama will never prevail.

It is written:
No weapon forged against you [ Sen. Barack Obama ] will prevail, and you [ Sen. Barack Obama ] will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their [ Sen. Barack Obama ] vindication from me," declares the LORD. -
Isaiah 54:17

" I [God ] will send my terror ahead of you [ Sen. Barack Obama ] and throw into confusion every nation you [ Sen. Barack Obama ] encounter. I [God ] will make all your [ Sen. Barack Obama ] enemies turn their backs and run." – Exodus 23:27

It's time for REAL change in Washington, it's time to elect Barack Obama for president. It's the Obama-Biden ticket that's needed at this defining moment in our history because this team is wiser and stronger to meet the challenges this nation faces at home and abroad.

Amen.

Patriot   September 3rd, 2008 4:02 pm ET

Just wanted to make sure everybody had a chance to look at the facts . .
Obama:
B.A in political science from Columbia University, with a specialization in international relations
J.D. in Law from Hardvard, graduated magna cum laude; President of the Harvard Law Review
12 years (92-04) teaching constitutional law
7 years State Senator: sponsored more than 800 bills
4 years Senator for Illinos, a state with 12.8 million people

Palin:
Bachelor's in journalism from University of Idaho
4 years Wasilla City Council (8000 people)
6 years Wasilla mayor (8000 people)
1 year "Ethics Commissioner of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission"
20 months governor of a state with 660,000 people

*Oh you forgot about her commercial fishing experience that should really give her a bit of an advantage on foreign policy.

I am sorry. I didn't know we aren't allowed to ask questions. Gracious, if all the information the McCain camp was putting out weren't so false. She is not a reformer – she gathered as much pork barrel spending as she could using a lobbyist. She was for the bridge to nowhere; she worked for Stevens 527, and had asked for another 200 million in pork barrel funding from Stevens before he was indicted. She has been governor of a state, that doesn't have a capitol building and whose legislature meets for only 90 days A YEAR! So tell me why we shouldn't wonder about the experience of this woman. As citizens, our vetting process is the CAMPAIGN TRAIL NOT THE VOTING BOOTH – that means asking questions!
