From

ST. PAUL (CNN) - They cut out the video introducing Sarah Palin – she was getting squeezed out of prime time.

Two points about John McCain’s pick here:

By naming her to the ticket, he may have been trying to do two things that are very difficult to do at the same time: rally the base, and make himself look like a maverick. It’s pretty tough to pull off both simultaneously.

Watch: Giuliani says Palin has more experience than the Democratic ticket combined

He did rally the Republican base. Whether he reclaimed his image as a maverick remains to be seen.

McCain may also have been trying to win over women – but the polls so far seem to indicate that did not happen.

Palin has more private sector business experience and executive experience than professional pols Obama and Biden COMBINED!

While Obama was ignoring his job as US Senator the past 2 years to run for president, Palin was doing hers as governor.

Maybe this is why Biden will keep his negative attack dog tactics on McCain and not on Palin

Tony   September 3rd, 2008 10:52 pm ET

I think she's summed up her experience over Obama's pretty well.

gwatkins   September 3rd, 2008 10:52 pm ET

wow

I don't believe it!   September 3rd, 2008 10:51 pm ET

All I see is rich people, clapping, for someone who doesn't sound serious at all, jokes, game playing, and bashing.. We need answers, not jokes and games! I am insuted by this woman and I'm a woman, we are serious minded people.

Nick - Arlington, VA   September 3rd, 2008 10:51 pm ET

Dude she is lying about the bridge to nowhere....chanting NBC? are these people out of their minds?

Courtney   September 3rd, 2008 10:51 pm ET

Getting scared, aren't ya? Your last three blog posts trying to tear down what were powerful and intelligent speeches ring frightened. "This is ugly", "that's ugly", "it's bitter". You sound like a fifteen year-old girl.

Mr. Educator   September 3rd, 2008 10:51 pm ET

She really seemed to be reading from the teleprompter.

Colleen   September 3rd, 2008 10:51 pm ET

Blah, Blah Blah, no substance that would make her presidential. Lots of streched truths. Lots of ploys to capture votes. For example took the money for the bridge to no where. Used Hillary's words. Not that it should matter, but her voice is just annoying too,

AH   September 3rd, 2008 10:51 pm ET

Rudy was ugly and that speech was offensive to all and will most likely backfire. Mrs. Palin is simply boring and scripted. Very uninspired.

The TRUTH   September 3rd, 2008 10:51 pm ET

How much executive experience does Mccain have?

ZERO
ZERO
ZERO

Indy who just went DEM   September 3rd, 2008 10:51 pm ET

I honestly can say I am sickened by the republican party. When did being a community organizer become a joke!

You have lost me in every election. Anyone with any honer or respect would never make a joke out of people who go to a community in need and help!

I will not vote for McCain or anyone who stands with the idea that being a community organizer is a joke!

jewel   September 3rd, 2008 10:51 pm ET

I know about the rest of America but this was the most painful speech I have ever had to listen to. I will not get any sleep if this moron is is elected VP. I thinking this is a gag and the repugs are going to roll out the real VP. John McCain should be ashamed of himself.

Obama/Biden 08

peter   September 3rd, 2008 10:50 pm ET

schneider,

why do you hate republicans? i think you are out of touch with a real voter.

rob   September 3rd, 2008 10:50 pm ET

she is not the one for the job, i think if is he has to be come president if something would happen to McCain are society is going dooooowwwwwwnnnnnnnn.

The Oracle   September 3rd, 2008 10:50 pm ET

Darn I'm listening to these fools talk. But where's the REAL policies??? They're just blasting Obama with half truths...If she is so good, how come she needed policy 101 and has been sequestered from the media???

Chuck   September 3rd, 2008 10:50 pm ET

Palin is just in the nick of time. Washington needs a "pit bull hockey mom" to shake up the status quo.

Eric   September 3rd, 2008 10:50 pm ET

Whatever the reasons are, it's CRAZY. Country first right!! I don't think so.

Bruce   September 3rd, 2008 10:50 pm ET

how does Palin want the media to lay off her family when she parades her family when in comes to positive accomplishments. She quickly highlighted how her son and nephews are participating in the army and how her down syndrome afflicted son will help her work for the less fortunate in the white house, arent these family issues. People need to understand how she plans to manage her huge family and do the job as an example to other americans, and explain where she has already failed, period

Andrew   September 3rd, 2008 10:50 pm ET

i'm sorry, but attacking community organizers? Good thing mayors have the power to fire state troopers, ban books from libraries...

California Gold   September 3rd, 2008 10:50 pm ET

Not only that the polls so far also show the gap between McCain and Obama widening in Obama's favor. The weekend announcement of Palin and the saturation of media with her numerous Achilles' tendons has submarined McCain's chances.

Not that it's a bad thing. I'm a Democrat and enjoying the fizzle.

DEM   September 3rd, 2008 10:50 pm ET

It sure sounds like all the speakers tonite are mixing and rehashing the same tired speech.

Ramesh Shrestha   September 3rd, 2008 10:50 pm ET

Palin is old wine in new bottle.......same old Republican trick of character attack and personality smears. She is speaking right now and my gosh, she is not talking about issues. I just do not know what the heck she is doing out there.
She has not introduced to us who she is and she is already on the down road to attack and smears. This is totally failed speech. Americans, do not be deceived. She is not talking about economy, about foreign policy and national security....all she is trying to do is to draw sympathy. C'mmon, do you think we are pack of fools. Time of sympathy gone, time to talk issuses has come.

ObamaBiden on to victory.

Hillary Supporter   September 3rd, 2008 10:50 pm ET

Try as you may John, Palin is no Hillary. And furthermore any Hillary supporters that say they are going to vote for McCain after what Mitt said about liberals tonight was never a democrat in the first place. This sounds like a police state. Join us or die. Is he really suggesting we gave up on America because we want to get out of Iraq?

Jay   September 3rd, 2008 10:50 pm ET

I'm feeling pity on these republicans now, including Palin. No substance in their speech !!

Obama 08

sjp   September 3rd, 2008 10:50 pm ET

laughing at palins kids, they look like there real excited about being drug into this horse and pony show.

Marcus, OH   September 3rd, 2008 10:50 pm ET

Her speech seems very empty and vague. Must be what she is too.

Juan from L.A.   September 3rd, 2008 10:50 pm ET

YES!!! She just declared war on the media!! She's so done!!! hahahahaha...Thanks Palin...this just showed your experience in dealing with Washington with your redneck bravado!!!

Mikey   September 3rd, 2008 10:50 pm ET

HOW DARE all of the Republicans at the RNC question the patriotism of Barack Obama and the tens of millions of Americans who support him. Where do they get off? What a bunch of arrogant holier and more patriotic than thou jerks.

I am happy to report that Sarah Palin has just accepted the Republican nomination. I agree with Peggy Noonan and Mike Murphy that the selection of this dangerously unqualified conservative extremist was pure "political bulls–t". And I certainly hope that Noonan is right about this election, that for McCain "it's over".

Ann   September 3rd, 2008 10:50 pm ET

DID I HEARD SOMEONE BOOED HER??

Steve   September 3rd, 2008 10:49 pm ET

It is very clear that what she reading was not written by her therefore not coming across as genuine (despite her efforts).

WORST SPEECH EVER!

Maria   September 3rd, 2008 10:49 pm ET

Giuliani .... was his humor an attempt to via for a late night comedy show? Maybe a stint on Saturday Night Live? Or maybe he'll take Leno's spot? How could anyone take him serious?

I am now a stong Obama supporter! No more on the fence for me!

The republicans have shown their lack of respect for the people of America in the past, and certainly tonight.

Obama for me!

Zer   September 3rd, 2008 10:49 pm ET

What an average speaker??..I feel she has no business on this ticket

I don't believe it!   September 3rd, 2008 10:49 pm ET

Bashing, Bashing Bashing, nothing with substance. Nothing about policy, goverment, ecomonym, healthcare, child care, things that true american are concern about.

People, are tire of rich people hiding the truth about what is going on in this country. Ebay, she just said ebay, us poor people can't shop on ebay, we have to save our money for gas!

How can this be?   September 3rd, 2008 10:49 pm ET

You are so scared, CNN. Keep campaigning for Obama. But it will be up to US, the voters to decide who we want.

fl voter   September 3rd, 2008 10:49 pm ET

Bill Tampa   September 3rd, 2008 10:49 pm ET

Again, organization from the McCain camp is lacking. I'm not too impressed with this convention tonight..It's like a comedy club..Jokes..Jokes...and insults!!!!.

Reclaimed his convention fans...yup. maverick....nope. She is more of the same. And with all the upset over sexist remarks, I find myself asking if "she" was a "he" from the same state with the same story, would "he" have been picked? ...nope

Charla in TX   September 3rd, 2008 10:48 pm ET

I have never…NEVER…in my life heard or seen such an awful and childish display…..both by Giuliani and by the crowd.

This was shameful and disgusting. I would never, NEVER, vote republican for any reason after this, not even if Jesus himself came down and ran for president on that party's ticket. Shameful!!

Susan   September 3rd, 2008 10:48 pm ET

"McCain may also have been trying to win over women – but the polls so far seem to indicate that did not happen."

This is the stupidest comment by Schneider so far.

Gracie   September 3rd, 2008 10:47 pm ET

WHERE is her focus on the issues? I mean, is this convention ALL about Sen. Obama?

It's so obvious by her speech and Gov. Palin is NOW officially a Republican "puppet" on a string, and John McCain holds those strings.

Sorry Gov. Palin, I thought you would do the HONORABLE thing and resign your nomination and TAKE CARE OF YOUR FAMILY AND TEENAGED PREGNANT DAUGHTER!!!

But hey, politics BEFORE family right?

Nevada dude   September 3rd, 2008 10:47 pm ET

Are there any minorities in the house?? WAit – there is two.....

She got some good one liners – too bad she didn't write them. No matter how you frame the argument – she DOESN"T have any foreign policy experience. Not what I want to see when the top guy is 72...in this world....

17 year old future politician   September 3rd, 2008 10:47 pm ET

Wow...she hasn't said one thing she did in office, or will do in office....oh but she attacked Obama though

mo   September 3rd, 2008 10:47 pm ET

Does anyone else thing that it is disgusting and cruel (if not a crime) to display a new born /infant in the middle of the convention, late a night, noise, loud speakers, light, cameras, dust, etc... like they cannot have a babysitter...but shuuu, do not talk about her family, let her abuse and use them in particular the pregnant child and the new born

Jim   September 3rd, 2008 10:47 pm ET

Shneider you've been spot on, aspecially about Guilliani's speech backfiring. I have the TV off right now, can't stand to watch anymore of this garbage.

Chris in Marietta   September 3rd, 2008 10:46 pm ET

The GOP managed tonight, like the Palin selection, VERY POORLY.

The video of Sarah Palin was MUCH MORE IMPORTANT...given that we DON'T KNOW HER....only sordid crap about her family, and have lots of misgivings given that McCain is 72 and both his father and grandfather died in their early 70's.

Hope over Fear '08   September 3rd, 2008 10:46 pm ET

I can't believe these Repugs speakers kept pushing the topic of Palin's "executive" experience being more worthy than Obama's experience as a senator. Well then maybe Palin should have be the presumptuous president candidate instead of Senator McCain since she has more "executive" experience than he ever had.

Robert   September 3rd, 2008 10:45 pm ET

All of these have been red meat. Palin is not coming off very gracious. I think that this pick was a mistake.

Rocky A in Buffalo   September 3rd, 2008 10:45 pm ET

This whole Republican CONvention has been nothing more than a Bash Obama Party. Not one of the speakers can refrain from mentioning Obama's name and talk about the issues. When and where are these snakes going to start talking about the issues like the ECONOMY, HEALTH CARE? Just like Obama said, they don't have a platform of their own, so all they do is BASH.

Forget Iraq, I like most Americans couldn't care less what goes on over there. Whats more important is whats happening HERE. And please, someone who "supports" this war, what exactly do we "Win" in Iraq?
