From

ST. PAUL (CNN) – Democrats who thought Sarah Palin would be an easy, soft target are in for a surprise: this is not a woman to be trifled with. Her opponents may have thought she’d be a deer in the headlights, like Dan Quayle. They were wrong.

(McCain’s appearance at the end of her speech wasn’t quite as surprising – that kind of pre-speech convention appearance has become almost expected.)

Here’s what Republicans got out of the evening:

1: They proved that Palin’s no pushover. They clearly established that.

2: They established a tough, even bullying tone to this night of the convention which bordered on the ugly, mocking their opponents.

3: Speakers gave strong testimony to McCain’s character.

Here’s what they didn’t accomplish: An answer to what they will do to solve this country’s economic problems. Without that, they’re not going to get anywhere.

And now it rests with McCain.

this is the woman who is supposed to be one of the leaders of the usa? am i dreaming? that was the worst speech. and who was that protester that was escorted out? and why was the fiance there? i feel like i am in the middle of a twilight zone episode.

catmom   September 3rd, 2008 11:32 pm ET

So now they can stop crying sexism, and threatening to sue people for asking questions.

RapidRay   September 3rd, 2008 11:32 pm ET

"And now it rests with McCain."

No, now it rests with his speech writers. John McCain's going to have a hell of a time following Palin. She's far better at public speaking than he is.
But I've yet to see anyone in that hall even come close to offering an answer to ANY questions of policy.

The pep rally continues tomorrow night.

donnie   September 3rd, 2008 11:32 pm ET

Sarah was very very boring and all she talked about was her family, PTA, being a hockey mom and John McCain being a POW. Where were the issues. Oh yeah and that she reads pretty good. Glad the camera man showed us the teleprompt.

Go Obama!!!   September 3rd, 2008 11:32 pm ET

They offered nothing! Palin looked poised and sounded good, but she offered nothing that we haven't already heard for the last few days. And we know NOTHING about McCain's plans for the country besides staying in this war!

Also, considering Palin knew nada about foreign policy issues until she was groomed by the Republicans, she comes across as completely disingenuous trying to deliver a message about Iraq, Iran, Venezuela, etc!

Tony Iovino   September 3rd, 2008 11:32 pm ET

Some "analysis"– are you actually on Obama's payroll?

Lynn   September 3rd, 2008 11:32 pm ET

Have we not had enough of this nastiness for the last 8 years??? Are McCain and Palin declaring war on the Liberals. Not too bi-partisan to me....

javone77   September 3rd, 2008 11:32 pm ET

It's easy to sound tough when you have a prepared speech in front of you! Let's see how she does when it's just her and biden and a moderator.

Roz, IL   September 3rd, 2008 11:32 pm ET

the only people that were moved by this horrible speech, was the crowd and you people at CNN. the GOP did what they always do. lie and try to scare voters. WHERE WAS THE ISSUES.

Dorrie   September 3rd, 2008 11:32 pm ET

As a woman and a mother, I watched Sarah Palin, and I felt horrified. She is clearly exploiting her children–including her disabled infant. She has chosen to expose her 17 year old pregnant, unwed daughter to national & international scrutiny–and then she comes out for motherhood, family, apple pie and mean mean mean attacks. She may fire some up, but as an Independent and a Christian, I'm disgusted by her.

There's just something unwholeness about Sarah Palin.

Saad, NJ   September 3rd, 2008 11:32 pm ET

Wow! I respect all four candidates for what they have done in their capacity for our country. However, due to teh fact that what we have ben through in the last 8 years, I want Obama and Biden to be our leaders – in hope for a change and in hope for them to get us out of the downward slope we have experienced. But – I must admit that out of the four candidates, Palin should now take the 'gifted speaker' title away from Senator Obama and have it all to herself. Wow!

rexx   September 3rd, 2008 11:32 pm ET

Well you leftists can lie all you want but Palin delivered a solid speech and is not going to back down from the Democrats attacks. Time to send home the foam columns Sen Obama lol

Jenni   September 3rd, 2008 11:32 pm ET

I really wanted to like her–just in case they win. Instead, I think she came off as the pitbull she described–mean and unwelcome in my home. I feel like all Republicans hate me! (And I'm an Independent!)

Marie-Lynn   September 3rd, 2008 11:31 pm ET

The speech was from the bottom republicains base. So really who cares.later something else will come out and not too funny for the gop.

You're kidding   September 3rd, 2008 11:31 pm ET

Kind of ....nails across the blackboard effect.
When are we going to hear how the GOP is going to change everything for the better? Where are their answers to the countries problems?

steve   September 3rd, 2008 11:31 pm ET

palin no pushover? of course she's a pushover, she can't manage her own family much less a city of a few people

That's Reality   September 3rd, 2008 11:31 pm ET

"Here’s what they didn’t accomplish: An answer to what they will do to solve this country’s economic problems. Without that, they’re not going to get anywhere." HEY SCHNEIDER, WHERE WERE YOU? READ THE TRANSCRIP; PALIN CLEARLY ADDRESSED THAT, AND THEY HAVE A GREAT PLAN.

Jon, Charlotte NC   September 3rd, 2008 11:31 pm ET

why is the mainstream media gushing over her speech?

it sounded very amateur... she sounded more like she was running for Student Body President than vice president

AmyO   September 3rd, 2008 11:31 pm ET

Is all the media too scared to say anything bad about her because the Republicans said the media has a liberal bias??? HER SPEECH WAS TERRIBLE! All she did was insult everyone that isn't a republican, make stupid jokes and say absolutely nothing that shows she is ready to be VICE PRESIDENT of the United States. GIVE ME A BREAK. Let's be honest here people, not just try and pander to the Republicans!!

obama and biden are my men   September 3rd, 2008 11:31 pm ET

I AGREE WITH YOU.REPUBLICANS DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE ECONOMY.WHAT I CARE ABOUT IS MY DAILY BASIS LIFE TO PAY MY BILLS AND BE ABLE TO MAKE IT.I AM NOT THINKING ABOUT TERRORIST ATTACK LIKE REPUBLICANS WANT TO SCARE THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.I AM SMARTER THAN THAT AND I HOPE YOU WILL BE TOO.LOVE YOU OBAMA/BIDEN

PALIN POWER – McCAIN – PALIN '08

Poor campbell brown she is stuttering and stammering more than her idol!

Best speech I have ever heard – makes obama look like the juvenile he acts like!

Sorry cnn your boy/toy just doesn't measure up to what real Americans want!!

Fort Collins,Colorado   September 3rd, 2008 11:31 pm ET

The speakers gave strong testimony to McCain's character?
Would not believe these speakers on what flavor of ice cream is good!! What a bunch of vile people! Lies, lies, lies. I pray every night these people do not win the White House!! Does anyone remember that cheerleaders mom who got obsessed with her daughters achievements? That's who Palin reminds me of.......

mia   September 3rd, 2008 11:31 pm ET

All she did and them was bash and cut down. They talked no issues. It was only ugly and slander. These people should be ashamed of themselves. Sarah go back to Alaska. McCain you need to go retire NOW!! this was a sad sad joke.

Amy-Texas   September 3rd, 2008 11:31 pm ET

Thank-GOD for Sarah Palin. This speech tonight proved how tough a VP she will be and how ready she is to lead. You liberals are so scared it's killing me with all your negative posts. I can't wait to celebrate Nov. 5th with a McCain/Palin VICTORY!!!

joy   September 3rd, 2008 11:31 pm ET

ALOT OF TALKING WITHOUT SAYING MUCH, THE EXCITMENT COMES FROM A PARTY THAT WAS RAPIDLY CRASHING AND NEEDED A TOKEN WOMAN TO ENERGIZE THEIR PARTY. WHY IS IT THE ONLY BLACK PEOPLE AT THE CONVENTION ARE PEOPLE THAT HAVE A JOB TO DO. WHERE IS THE DIVERSITY. THE REPUBLICAN CANNOT GET ANGRY WHEN BARACK STRIKES BACK
SHE BITE FIRST

Hillary Supporter   September 3rd, 2008 11:31 pm ET

Well, Palin the gloves are off now and no one cares that you are a woman. Lets see if you can finish.

Jane with a brain   September 3rd, 2008 11:31 pm ET

"NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN" like Rudi Guiliani. America gave up on you and your 237 primary votes. Bye Bye old man.

Independent   September 3rd, 2008 11:31 pm ET

A very very negative speech, attacking Obama not on policies but personally. I have no problems with attacks on policy. But a personal attack on the person who protected your daughter's privacy this week is NOT impressive.

The Republican ticket: (i) A presidential candidate who is to the right of Bush on foreign policy. (ii) A vice-presidential candidate who is to the right of Bush on domestic policy. Not looking very attractive at the moment.

Tam Tam   September 3rd, 2008 11:31 pm ET

Mean. Meaner. Meanest. Republican Mantras: How will you help with gas prices? Attack Obama. How will you help with insurance? Attack Obama? How will you help bring good jobs back to the US? Attack Obama and Michelle. How will you lower the deficit? Attack Obama. More of the same. Obama/Biden 08/12

diana   September 3rd, 2008 11:31 pm ET

what kind of values does the palin family have? i can understand supporting your daughter through a bad decision. but to promote, laud, and condone her actions is ridiculous. why put levi so much in the spotlight, they are not married, they are both dependent children, and neither has a job or means to support a child. what message are you sending to the american teenagers? i doubt if mccain knew of this pregnancy in advance. shame on you palin why isnt levi charged with statutory rape.

all palin could discuss in detail was john mccains qualities. what about her own. she spent two minutes on that. good thing she had a speech writer. she recited word for word.

i think she is the plastic doll she seems to be. she better pray if john mccain wins nothing happens to him. she will get the marilyn monroe treatment. gone in 30 mins.

James in Ohio   September 3rd, 2008 11:31 pm ET

Even though I don't agree with all of her politics, the power of her speech was undeniable. She was on fire tonight, and that fire will greatly appeal to the blue collar rural voters who have never 100% warmed to Obama.

mn   September 3rd, 2008 11:31 pm ET

she was as nasty as she could be!

Honest Abe   September 3rd, 2008 11:31 pm ET

Palin is just what I thought! EMPTY-HEADED! What'd you expect from a B.A. in Communications from Idaho

Greg FL.   September 3rd, 2008 11:31 pm ET

I disagree. Insulting your opponent is easy and takes no real thought. It also doesn't make you tough. Let's see her sit through some real tough interviews. Lets see what she really knows about the world and the lower 48. People who attack like that are just using it to hide their own shortcomings.

No Hillary = No Obama   September 3rd, 2008 11:31 pm ET

This is all you can say? Just give the woman her due – she nailed it – she shamed Obama and told it like it is. She has guts – reminds me of Hillary – smart, articulate, doesn't pull any punches – if only she was less Anita Bryant and more Hillary Clinton. She needs Hillary's hair stylist and more of her politics. In any event – we saw history being made tonight and have John McCan to thank for it. John McCan allowed someone other than himself to advance the cause – Obama didn't – and he will not get my vote.

Daryl in Seattle   September 3rd, 2008 11:31 pm ET

If Palin's so tough, how come she won't face the media. I'll bet the next time we actually hear her speak again is at the VP debate. Can you say P-U-P-P-E-T ???

jill   September 3rd, 2008 11:30 pm ET

Ok what in the world were CNN watching, this was a horrible negitve speech..She did not unit America, It was a speech to their base only, there is no way it will win over any democrats or independents...I cant wait until she gets what's is coming to her...She wants a fight...Lets give to to her...Then she will run back to her little town

Karen   September 3rd, 2008 11:30 pm ET

Who expected Palin to be a pushover? If you saw her speak when nominated, and if you've read anything about her at all, there's no reason to expect she'd be weak or scared or wimpy at all. In fact, all indications are that she's tough and will go after anybody that disagrees with her or gets in her way ... and that's exactly how she came across.

Clinton voter for Palin!   September 3rd, 2008 11:30 pm ET

A political star was born this evening. I'm in awe. And I;m on board!

george   September 3rd, 2008 11:30 pm ET

OOOOOH cnn commanded whoever this shill "schneider" guy is to write 1 semi-positive fake article about the GOP convention. too bad they let him run insane posting over a DOZEN articles in the last hour about how much he, CNN, and the media love their messiah. literally, the entire ticker is clouded with obamabot posts from this "schneider" guy – and the kicker is CNN closed the comments after only 10 or 12 obamaniac posts! how hollow.
but you know that no CNN moderator will allow this comment to get through.

Lily   September 3rd, 2008 11:30 pm ET

95% of the speech was making fun of Obama....another republican with the old same tricks....If this is the future of this country...OMG

Repugs are Whining? how ironic   September 3rd, 2008 11:30 pm ET

As the McCain camp has repeatedly said, good speeches are no substitute for real leadership. Is anyone really buying this "Palin has experience" malarky?

Jacob   September 3rd, 2008 11:30 pm ET

Sarah Palin represents the strong family values that America needs. So good to see her whole beautiful family–especially the infant.

dddeee   September 3rd, 2008 11:30 pm ET

really cnn you guys are bipolar her speach was more of the same republican smear ive heard all this time.

Ian MacIsaac   September 3rd, 2008 11:30 pm ET

This bullying tone isn't going to get them anywhere past the base.

Charles Gifford   September 3rd, 2008 11:30 pm ET

I'm comforted with the fact that Bill Schneider is rarely right and clearly biased.

AmericaAgainstScareTactics   September 3rd, 2008 11:30 pm ET

This woman scares me...

Michelle is 1 Million times the woman that she'll ever be. What a joke of a convention. Where's the solutions or the substance?

It's a Bash Obama Convention.

OBAMA/BIDEN '08   September 3rd, 2008 11:30 pm ET

NO ONE from McInsane's camp called to vett this woman according to the locals in Anchorage. It's his own fault – he didn't vett her in private now the media is going to vett her in public.

Then she wants to cry PRIVACY one day, but use her daughter’s shotgun groom meeting McCain as a PHOTO OPT the next. You can't have it both ways Sarah.

Coach K   September 3rd, 2008 11:30 pm ET

Bill .. please don't stop doing this job. You are so correct. Sarah Palin will be an effective attack dog. I for one who was unsure about who I was going to vote for now will vote Obama/Biden. The GOP used this night to make me, an independent voter, feel like I'm a nobody. They insulted my intelligence by trying to convince me Sarah Palin is ready to be VP because she has more executive experience than Obama. They are trying to make this election about whether Obama is ready to lead but gave me NOTHING that would make me believe they are.

Josh from DC   September 3rd, 2008 11:30 pm ET

Is anyone else bothered that she accepted a role she hasnt been nominated to yet? She was mean without merit. Moreover, she had 40 minutes to give a plan of how to fix the problems of this country that she squandered with one liners and silly insults. She even mentioned that the McCain administration would move forward on wind, solar, and alternative fuels. So why does he keep voting against them??? Offensive...period

Sherry, Atlanta   September 3rd, 2008 11:30 pm ET

INTERESTING, HOW PALIN TOOK SO MANY SHOT'S. . . WHEN SHE HAS MORE BAGGAGE, THAN A 'GROCERY STORE'!

Ted   September 3rd, 2008 11:30 pm ET

She's also barely an American.

Ms. RDS   September 3rd, 2008 11:30 pm ET

I'm glad she decided to come out throwing jabs...so I don't wanna here any whinning when the Dems start throwing them back! I'm fired up and ready. All the lies she told on that stage is staggering!

georgia   September 3rd, 2008 11:30 pm ET

And she brings moral examples that match McCains also.
Good speech but many skeltons in the closet yet.

Muffie in New York State   September 3rd, 2008 11:30 pm ET

Rest in Peace Clara Peller – WHERE's THE BEEF??!! If this is all they have to say, then it's time for Grandpa McCain and his sponge nurse to say GOOD NIGHT. I'm cringing for the republicans if this is the BEST they can do! For Shame McSame you sold out your party BIG TIME

Oregon here   September 3rd, 2008 11:30 pm ET

Now who needs a teleprompter? Please............ this person is not for our RIGHTS! She, with her husband, wanted Alaska to part from the union and become it's own nation. I did not feel any excitement.

Obama / Biden 08

Republicans for Truth   September 3rd, 2008 11:30 pm ET

Yes, she is stupid. It took her two full days to write a idiotic speech and so many people coached and prayed that she doesn't blow it, yet she did ... not a single solution to American people problems. She totally doesn't get it and wrong for America

Mike from CA   September 3rd, 2008 11:30 pm ET

Another disgusting performance by the morally bankrupt republicans. I saw nothing strong about her just the same old polltics of division.

randy   September 3rd, 2008 11:30 pm ET

Brilliant. Give us a flawed person for vice president. Lower expectations by hiding the candidate. Have your opponents call for "hands off the poor woman". Then make her the attack dog.

I'm not sure the American people will buy the fact that this is really who she is, because this is the first time she's made any speech in front of the nation.

But because the media has been so good at questioning her background, and airing her "dirty laundry", they will have to be nice for a minute....

Brilliant.

Carol Michigan   September 3rd, 2008 11:30 pm ET

I tried to listen to her. I really did. But that screeching voice makes the hair on my back stand up.

Silky Terrier K   September 3rd, 2008 11:30 pm ET

That was the worst performance I have every witnessed. She came off as a snotty, shallow, mean spirited woman. She won't be representing me in the future. She ia ugly as they get. If she is all the GOP can come up with they are in sorry shape. She read the speech poorly-without conviction. What a bust!

Honest Abe   September 3rd, 2008 11:30 pm ET

Dumb – Dumber and Cindy McCain

Remember, remember   September 3rd, 2008 11:30 pm ET

the mess left to us, in November

These folks are......nuts!?

These people are not leaders..........they're not acting like leaders (except Huckabee) ............I dont know what they are, what they're saying or trying to say.....contradictions or insults seem to be their red meat

definitley not the right choice right now

Obam/Biden

Or Ron Paul

"the republican party is presently unsafe at any speed"......seriously

CNN loves McCain   September 3rd, 2008 11:30 pm ET

HUH? Could CNN lower their standards anymore?

Palin READ off a teleprompter. Big Deal. Seth Rogen could do that...convincingly....should we nominate him for VP????

The GOP is completely ridiculous. More lies, lies, lies.

Tracey   September 3rd, 2008 11:30 pm ET

Obama and Biden laid off on her, but know, it's fair game! It's attack time now! Go for it! And you are right, she did not mention anything about what she was going to do about the economy! She only mentioned mainly, John McCain's story! Only worked for the base, well crafted, didn't not do anything for the country as a whole!

Hillary Supporter   September 3rd, 2008 11:29 pm ET

So, she worked on a speech for three days. All she did was attack and offered no answers as to how to fix this country.

California Gold   September 3rd, 2008 11:29 pm ET

I still have no idea what their policies and platform are. It's still an angry Republican party hurtling insults and outrage at the successful and popular Democrat party candidates.

She still lacks credentials, experience, education and polish.

Jane with a brain   September 3rd, 2008 11:29 pm ET

Your 15 minutes of fame is OVER Sara.....did you here me OVER. I love you Hillary!!!!

Molly in MPLS   September 3rd, 2008 11:29 pm ET

I thought she was authentic, but at the same time she has a condescending tone that will not promote the ability to work across the aisle. And let's be clear... she's been huddled for days with speech writers to put together this speech. Let's see how she can debate against Biden and she might just earn my respect. But just slinging mud at the opponent without offering your own solutions is crap.

Eric   September 3rd, 2008 11:29 pm ET

Frankly, one amazing boring speech. You could clearly see there were parts when she did not even know what she was talking about (Chavez in particular). For her to be condescending is almost funny, if it were not for the fact that she came across as an extremely divisive and unpleasant person. But hey, all those who believe God created the world in six days are happy now. Ignorance rules!

monica   September 3rd, 2008 11:29 pm ET

This was an overall disappointing and UGLY night for the repugs!! it is so sad when you can do nothing more with an entire convention but bash the other candidate and party....a sad night for America!!!

Shame repugs.....spend your time and taxpayers money better next time at least pretend you have a solution for the economy or other issues that matter to average American people!!!

Obama/Biden 08/12

Tom   September 3rd, 2008 11:29 pm ET

This speech obviously wasn't for the independents. If they think so, they've got it all wrong.

A sickening display of attacks, anger, hatred, we are the only ones, no economic message or details and absolutely no substance.

Hillary is a woman with substance and has the right to criticize Obama on experience since Hillary has experience. Palin cannot compare.

Bulldog   September 3rd, 2008 11:29 pm ET

Nobody knows Sarah Palin yet. Even the Republicans and John McCain himself don't know her. This just proves McCain is dangerous with this CRAZY pick. More and more of the truth is coming out on Palin who was picked because she was a so called reformer.

She is not a reformer but rather a fraud due to the following:

-As mayor of Wasilla, population 5700 at that time, she hired a lobby firm to help her get $27 million dollars in federal earmarks from 2000-2003.

-As governor of Alaska the state received $570 million and $200 million dollars in federal earmarks which John McCain is against.

-In 2002 Palin received $4500 from the same firm that has gotten Senator Steven indited for a felony and is under FBI investigation.

-Sarah Palin's gubernatorial administration illegally possessed confidential files of her ex brother-in-law.

-Palin is under a state investigation for abuse of power and recently hired a private lawyer who is authorized to spend up to $95000 to defend her.

Palin is clearly a fraud on the ISSUES she supposedly was picked on.
Where is the judgement now?????

brad   September 3rd, 2008 11:29 pm ET

Too much attacking. no real talk. Too scripted feeling. Only a few areas in her speech felt authentic. The whole evening was negative. Kind of depressing to be honest. Look forward seeing her speaking directly to interviewers. Get a real sense.

Proud Democrat   September 3rd, 2008 11:29 pm ET

They were trying to invigorate the base, unfortunately for them they just invigorated the wrong one. This will bring Obama supporters out in droves.

Hillary 4 McCain/Palin   September 3rd, 2008 11:29 pm ET

WOW!!! Sarah Palin YOU ROCK!!!

As a Hillary Supporter in PA – I am IMPRESSED with Gov Palin, she hit it out of the ballpark....

I have no doubt about your abilities AND EXPERIENCE, Sarah.

Good Job.

Go McCain/Palin 2008

Wendy   September 3rd, 2008 11:29 pm ET

Talk about dividing the country.

Robert   September 3rd, 2008 11:29 pm ET

Palin could barely command the crowd, or the sentences written for her. This felt like a series of one liners read off of note cards. I don't think anyone but the already excited extreme right supporters are going to go for this pandering. Her speech was inherently contradictory in its tone and message. She looked unsteadily vicious, if that is possible.

It is interesting that Palin is claiming a mantle of reform that is hardly supported by what we are all recently learning about her. Her neighbors and political peers are telling everyone how much she bullied those with other opinions and demanded that people stay loyal over staying willing to disagree. Additionally, it turns out she was a huge proponent of pork legislation. Wasilla had a higher pork project to inhabitant ratio than probably 99% of America. John McCain has even publicly opposed by name 3 projects she hired a lobbyist to play games with Sen Stevens to try to lobby.

Remind you of anyone? (HInt: A less experienced Bush)

It is scary that she is one heartbeat away from the presidency if we elect her.

max   September 3rd, 2008 11:29 pm ET

families are now fair game ... she parades them around like a political hat and doesn't expect some shots ??? this whole evening was a disgusting spectacle with all the negativity and name throwing ... next scandal please ... we all know there will be more

Daniel   September 3rd, 2008 11:29 pm ET

What speeches were you watching?

sue   September 3rd, 2008 11:29 pm ET

So then does that mean that we can take the gloves off now that we gave her her night....she sounded like a beauty queen
all talk & full of hot air!!!

Michelle   September 3rd, 2008 11:29 pm ET

I am SO NOT impressed with this woman at all !
She is the LAST one who should be knocking Obamas experience because she hasnt got any herself at ANYTHING!!!
this republican convention has been nothing but an attack fest on Obama.A disgusting display from the arrogant and elitist Romney and Guiliano. How could either relate to the hard times the average american is going thru.
This speech did nothing to inspire me ...it just reinforces what the american people know already that that McCain and Palin are more of the same LOW DOWN politics as usual
No substance to her speech whatsoever!!!
Just another attack dog

Danny   September 3rd, 2008 11:28 pm ET

The whole Republican party are nasty fear-mongering dividers. This is their platform: POW, Terrorism, Higher taxes, Lie, Fix Lies.

Maria   September 3rd, 2008 11:28 pm ET

As a woman, I became very depressed listening to Sarah Palin because she came across as a bully. I'm not interested in having a bully as my PTA president either... By golly, I bet everyone brought the cookies to the fund raiser at the PTA fun night... and no one forgot to bring the cake for the cake walk, cuz, wow, she'd been mean to you if you didn't. Nope, I'm not looking for another Washington bully.

Rebecca   September 3rd, 2008 11:28 pm ET

We get it....we get it....he's a former POW....Now where's the ideas for changing the economy?.... getting out of Iraq? just negativity and the same old right wing rhetoric (not actual facts) I remember hearing 30 yrs ago.... sorry, Ms Palin, but I am self employed, am working 2 jobs, raised 4 children by myself (one in the military), and cannot afford health insurance. Nothing you said addressed anything that I am concerned about in this "2008" election....and yes, I agree you are pretty good at reading the teleprompter.

sjp   September 3rd, 2008 11:28 pm ET

sorry, didn't see it that way at all, she seemed no different than any other speaker in the last 2 days. and at times seemed way below the office she is runnung for.

OK for Obama   September 3rd, 2008 11:28 pm ET

I disagree....we never thought anybody campaining for Republicans would be push over. We reject their opinion that we will run scared, afraid of another terrorist attack - enuf to keep them iin office. Yes Sen Palin is a spitfire, but she carries the same message as Mc-nochange...and No Thank you.

LAH   September 3rd, 2008 11:28 pm ET

She's proven herself to be a right-wing mouthpiece who spoke no substance.
This is not leadership – it's mudslinging.
The gloves are off now. Go get her, Joe!

bini   September 3rd, 2008 11:28 pm ET

so being a bully is a good thing?

David   September 3rd, 2008 11:28 pm ET

The Republicans have thrown down the gauntlet and the Democrats must respond in kind. It was a vile night for the American people to see a party reduced, maybe even diminished, to such lows.

Jon   September 3rd, 2008 11:28 pm ET

The GOP also made sure to establish their platform that the U.S. should be a one-party state.

How un-democratic can you get?

Dr. J   September 3rd, 2008 11:28 pm ET

This woman is tragic. McCain screwed up. I am not impressed. Michelle Obama has more clout than this woman. Tragic.

Tyghe from ohio   September 3rd, 2008 11:28 pm ET

I want to know is she going to provide health care for everyone so they can take care of there special needs children. t

Tim   September 3rd, 2008 11:28 pm ET

She did not prove anything. She will be crushed when the ethics charges come out.

John   September 3rd, 2008 11:28 pm ET

Take away fear loathing and ignorance, and the repubs have nothing.

Disgusting.

Sarah Bell, Cleveland, OH   September 3rd, 2008 11:28 pm ET

Dick Cheney with a wig. Great. Just great.

suki   September 3rd, 2008 11:28 pm ET

The speech only reinforced why the Democrats must win – Pailin can be dressed up and given a speecj to read and hit on the points that would make that crowd in St Paul hoot and hooler

She still has no experience and that is a dangerous mix with McCain

Texas Democrat   September 3rd, 2008 11:28 pm ET

Fantastic speech Palin, I am a democrat in Texas and I voted for Hillary and after listening to you speak I hope you win! My state will go McCain my only shot was in the primary, Obama didn't listen to 18 million democratic voters. I think McCain was brilliant in his VP pick, I hope you do well in the debates.....

Lily   September 3rd, 2008 11:28 pm ET

Palin came across as childish, stupid, and a bully. Not once did they prove that she was qualified for office. Not one thing was said about that. Not even by her.

SamSunny   September 3rd, 2008 11:28 pm ET

Sarah Palin, the seven day wonder. Before last Friday no one had heard anything of consequence about this lady other than her title of being a Governor. Now she is the rock star and savior of the Republican Party. Now that is truly amazing. A nobody comes to the rescue while the candidate can't even get traction except to say, I am a POW and you owe me the Presidency. For someone who is touting his bravery, John McCain sure does whine and cry a lot.

DNC Hates Women   September 3rd, 2008 11:28 pm ET

Home run by Palin. Absolutely outstanding.

Clinton v. Palin in 2012, forever....Zero, never.

Roger from CA   September 3rd, 2008 11:28 pm ET

OMG!!! Wolf, Anderson and co. are saying she "knocked this out of the park"??!??!?!??

Are you KIDDING? I say again, you don't HAVE to kiss the butt of everyone all the time in order to be unbiased.

This was certainly a red-meat speech that did well in the RNC room, but it was WAY TOO NEGATIVE. The mocking tone and constant dissing of Obama's community organization experience was tone deaf.

And what was with her "earnest" face? She is small-time, small-town hick

Lee from FL   September 3rd, 2008 11:28 pm ET

hate speech.
we need to unite the country not divide

now i believe she fired the poor guy because he didn't want to cut her brother-in-law loose.

Hillary Supporter   September 3rd, 2008 11:27 pm ET

All they did was try to scare everyone. Where are the solutions to fix this economy?

sue   September 3rd, 2008 11:27 pm ET

A storm of media attention-when she hide out from the media for 5 days

MP   September 3rd, 2008 11:27 pm ET

Mm, maybe not a push-over, but Palin is lying.

She ran on the 'bridge to nowhere' when she looked for support to become Governor of Alaska.

She ACCEPTED the money from the Federal Government despite what she says.

Thus – Palin is lying.

Peter   September 3rd, 2008 11:27 pm ET

I don't get this talk from CNN. I'm laughing at this speech... this speech was horrible... and it's going to hurt McCain... so yeah, she seemed like someone who was suddenly WAY over her head.

BOOTSTOMPER   September 3rd, 2008 11:27 pm ET

They are very hateful people. Wake up america McCain looks 100 years old and she is the pta queen.

Independent in DC   September 3rd, 2008 11:27 pm ET

$100 says independents continue to break for Obama.

Salida   September 3rd, 2008 11:27 pm ET

Ok.

John Buchanan   September 3rd, 2008 11:27 pm ET

Wow I am Blown away – NOT!!!! She gave an Empty Speech and it was full of phrases and insults...McCain is lacking judgment with his decision in choosing her as his running mate. I expected so much more. More content and more substance...I have made up my mind tonight. I will cast my Vote for Obama/Biden!!!!!

Shirley-Ohio   September 3rd, 2008 11:26 pm ET

Big stupid whiny speech. She trashed the media, the very people who are going to tear this speech apart and put it up on the screen (as Tim Russert) would do and say, "you said this". She gave them a lot ammunition to use against her. I cannot believe she used the bridge to nowhere when she was for it at first. She will be gone in a couple of weeks. Don't put her on too high up on the charts you will only be left down. All she gave was a speech written by someone. She is not VP material. As they all talk about Obama giving a speech, that all the republicans gave were attack speeches, but now is the time to go back to the issues the ones John McCain wants to continue from President Bush.

People make no sense   September 3rd, 2008 11:26 pm ET

The only experience McCain has is being captured and tortured. Explain to me how was he fighting for our country while being tied up and beaten? IT is clearly on record that he spoke up and degraded America that is why his people hid his military records.

In addition, the guy who is on tape degrading, in Palin's name, the agency not getting rid of her trooper brother in law has now refused to testify, after McCains 25 lawyers went to Alaska.

If you like attacks and lies then Palin is your girl. I'm glad that I'm rich cause you poor people are going to suffer. DUMMIES!
