From

ST. PAUL, Minnesota (CNN) – Here’s another blast from the past: We have not heard Al Gore-bashing in recent years. And an update for this cycle: a dig at Michelle Obama

This is a very tough, nasty speech. This is a red-meat speech if there ever was one. Not at all in the spirit of unity and bipartisanship that McCain espouses.

Somehow, that cry of “USA! USA!” coming from the crowd tonight sounds divisive and ugly. Romney gave the crowd extreme partisanship – it’s what they wanted, but I’m not sure that’s going to work for reaching the country right now. People want to hear unity – that’s the basis of McCain’s appeal.

Excuse me but Iam only a Canadian but you know Dont you all think that Condelezza Rice would have been a better choice for VP than thiss light weight excuse for a fool.......Is it a reflection of the judgement that this man will execute once in office.................At least all your canidales have at whatever level some charisma..........Unlike our so callled leaders

But If john Mccain wants to srgue about any expeience None of the canidates (all of them dems and reps) they have never been president ................they are all rookies

Romney looks, acts, speaks and resembles a real president. So many people of low intellegence are jealous of him. It is evident in the many comments about him by losers. The other attacks are from vehement, frothing-at -the-mouth left wingers. They are scared stiff of him.
Romney in 2012!

Palin, Giuliani, Romney and all the others just did not get it .Obama is the first to run on change for America now everyone on the GOP is talking of change. McCain is in Washington for so long and did not change anything what can he change now.

The Republicans are nasty, The Democrats were not like this last week, I guess it shows that the Republicans are desperate, and the Democrats are remaining focus on the issues.

well if the shoe fits......i am so sick of the left and the right claiming unfairness towards the other party. its politics. it gets dirty. the left claims that fox news is too slanted. the right claims that cnn is too slanted. its obvious that both are judging from the comments left on both news websites. they are all one sided. i will say that fox does put some leftist comments in. let me ask this question....

what matters most.......the economy, or national security? which is most important?

to me, you cant have a good economy if you dont have security. there is your answer to the economic problems. who will provide that security? a man who has no experience with national security issues, was wrong about the surge, has never served in a military capacity, and gives a lenient ear to terrorist nations? or a man who fought in a war, has military experience, knows first hand how the ugly, evil side thinks and promises to stand up to it without hesitation?

wow........thats a no brainer. standing around singing kumbaya with terrorists, hoping that they wont kill us, and changing your side with every terrorist that comes along......that is the hope and change the obama camp will bring.

I think Romney's speach was recist and he is ready to go war >> So let him go alone. He and all republicans keep harping on the same tune the "LOONY TUNE" of War and Terrorism. We are feat up of this idiocy........

Does Giuliani realise that "hollywood people" are Americans too?

Kevin Shirley   September 4th, 2008 12:50 am ET

If Mccain were to become president tomorrow and then something was to happen to him, would it look right that our president 17 year old daughter is pregnant.

And I quote Romney: "Is government spending - putting aside inflation - liberal or conservative if it doubles since 1980? It's liberal!" [and so chanted the crowd].

Reality check Mr. Romney: From 1980-2008, the White House has been controlled by Republicans for 20 of the last 28 years!

Such is the brilliance of the Republican propoganda machine: while overseeing the largest expansion of government and spending in our nation's history, they can still dupe the American people into believing the Republicans are fiscally conservative! Wake up America!

Fiscal responsibility is the big lie pushed by the Republican Party.

Except for 8 years of Clinton, the White House has been controlled by the Republicans for 20 of the last 28 years since 1980.

Schneider calls everything at this convention ugly which shows his bias. What about last week? All I heard was ugly.

marcus2   September 4th, 2008 12:32 am ET

"Unity" is not "the basis of McCain's appeal." The old "us against them" or "we're good and they're evil," is more like it . That's the reason I'm voting for Obama.

teflon warrior   September 4th, 2008 12:03 am ET

Phenominal speech Mitt, you're the only one else that could have been VP. I'm sure he'll get an invite to a cabinet post. Great job!

george   September 3rd, 2008 11:59 pm ET

oh noes! "divisive and ugly"!!! you must mean like reid's recent attempts to boot anyone out of congressional leadership who doesn't tow the party line (lieberman). there's your UNITY!! you can achieve unity simply by exiling anyone who doesn't agree with the most liberal senator in congress!

leave it to a biased liberal like "schneider" whoever that nobody is to say that screaming "USA!" is divisive and ugly.
then again, liberals HATE america. of course that kind of chant would be offensive to them. if ONLY we could be more like france!!!!
