Biden lowers expectations in upcoming debate against Palin

Sen. Biden said Thursday that Republicans are distorting Sen. Obama's record.
Sen. Biden said Thursday that Republicans are distorting Sen. Obama's record.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia (CNN) - Joe Biden warned supporters Thursday not to expect him to unleash “one-line zingers” in his debates with GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin — even if she does.

“I will be unrelenting in my debate with governor, the governor of Alaska in terms of the positions she has taken,” Biden said. “But I will not do what she is able to do so well, and many others–not bad. I am not good at the one-line zingers that go at, you know, that’s not my deal. So if that is going to be the measure of how these debates go, then I’m not going to do very well.”

Palin attacked the Democratic ticket in her speech to the Republican National Convention Wednesday, belittling Obama’s experience and charging he cares more about his career than about achieving victory in Iraq.

Biden broadly condemned “distortions” from Republican opponents at a campaign event Thursday, but took only a veiled swipe at Palin.

“[You’re] seeing distortions from opponents — this thing of 'country first,' this awful line about Barack Obama being more concerned about his career than winning a war,” Biden said. “I thought we were beyond that.”

A voter in the audience asked the Democratic senator to “please promise us that you will go at her” when the two candidates meet at a debate in October.

Biden warned her she might be disappointed, but promised to press Palin on the issues.

“If that is the measure of the debates are, me stating forthrightly about me and Barack Obama and what we’ll do to change the country, I think you’ll be proud. At least I hope you will,” he said.

I am sure Ms. Palin would have gone after Obama on his stand on the issues if she knew what they were – like the rest of us. She was just repeating what Obama has said and done.

However, McCain is the one to look to for mapping out the plan for America and together they will make a strong team.

Mr. Biden does not need one line zingers because once in a debate with Ms. Palin he will quickly see that there is much much more to her than one line zingers (which he should have picked up on) and had better be prepared to debate a well informed and smart candidate for VP. Good luck Mr. Biden.

Kudos to you Joe Biden, I love your style and can’t wait for you to politely tear this “pit bull” apart with your dog catcher ways.

    Sen Biden,
You do not need the one line zingers for the intellegent people that listen to the debate.
Smart Americans are listening to the change that Sen Obama /Biden ticket has to offer. It is the change we have been seeking. The trash talk is not getting the votes, we are tired of the same old garbage the Republicans have to offer.

    hi from Canada...
I watched her speech last night and I was utterly disgusted...
She reaks of negativeness , sarcasm, lies and half-truths to score brownie points with McCain...

I have tried to donate to the Obama party but I cannot as I am from Canada but I do have friends in the States that I may wire money to to help him out ....

oh yea food thought.. here is an article that was in our media today...

    By THE CANADIAN PRESS

OTTAWA - A new poll says Canadians are five times more likely to
pick Barack Obama than John McCain when asked who they would support if
they could vote in the U.S. presidential election.

The Canadian Press Harris/Decima survey indicates that 66% of those polled would select Obama, the Democratic candidate.

Only 13% would vote for McCain, the Republican

When oil and gas prices went up dramatically, and filled up the state treasury, I sent a large share of that revenue back where it belonged — directly to the people of Alaska. so says sarah . Good for Alaska Bad Bad for America.

Remember both Dems and Rep always attack each other with issues. Just no way around it. Its always been a fight one against the other. Attack is the thing. Don't say one is attacking and the other isn't. Its a fight to the end. It would be good now if everyone would just stick to the issues which concerns us LEGAL AMERICAN citizens. Where are we going to end up. This is what the debates will be about. McCain has been trying to get Obama into some one on one debates and Obama just can't do it for some reason....We really don;'t know much of where he stands on issues. And I'm a Dem. He needs to come right out with it. Tell us what exactly you are going to do for us...Beside raise taxes, cut and run, put too many liberals in the courts, I cannot afford any more monies taken out of my wallet. I don;t have a new TV, car, no cable, no DVD, No cellphone, never go out to eat, just necessities PERIOD. How are you going to lower my taxes to I have have maybe another $200 to $300 a month to do something. Maybe some better food, fill up the truck, etc. Get my teeth done, have a physical and can pay for it myself without sucking on the teets of the Government.....Get to it Obama Please. You too McCain

Joe will do just fine, go with the issues because they have no idea what they are. Stay away from her family, she has already tried baiting the hook. It was the campaign that brought up her baby with Down syndrome and that fact that she was a mother of 5. It was her that announced that her daughter was pregnant. Now they are upset that the media took the bait and ran......HAHAHA!

Just wondering if McCain win the election, but dies before taking office she will be president....there is a scary thought!

Good for you Biden. Don't sink to their level. They have one liners because they can't think any further than that. Take the high road and you and Obama will go far in this election.

Obama is a gifted performedr and nothing more – he delivers good speeches written by others, and can help write books with a lot of editorial help. Unfortunately he does not know how to write legislation, and he does not know how to manage or run anything. Give me the small town Mayor, Governor, Council member, and PTA advocate any day over the " community organizer" with no responsibility .
On election day, i will vote Palin and McCain -– Obama can vote "present'

Looking forward to the new polls... You guys have been weighed and measured... and found wanting...

Thank you Senator Biden for rising above the mediocrity of what I so disappointingly witnessed last night during Gov Palin's acceptance speech. As a women who works as a civic leader and often times a community volunteer, I stand with much pride in the shadow of a long line of successful women of power and community servants – such as Hillary Clinton, Mayor Shirley Franklin, and countless others on a local, state and national level. Never in all my years of community service and civic involvement have I heard someone at the level of Governor Palin discredit and demean my community service and civic involvement as I heard last night.

I love my community, my city, my state and my country too much to allow her low estimation and evaluation of my contribution and those of other community organizers, deter me from continuing the work that I do and love so much.

God Bless you, Senator Obama and America. God's Speed!!

Perhaps Gov. Palin should review Pres. George H.W. Bush's views:

"I have spoken of a thousand points of light, of all the community organizations that are spread like stars throughout the Nation, doing good. We will work hand in hand, encouraging, sometimes leading, sometimes being led, rewarding. We will work on this in the White House, in the Cabinet agencies. I will go to the people and the programs that are the brighter points of light, and I will ask every member of my government to become involved. The old ideas are new again because they are not old, they are timeless: duty, sacrifice, commitment, and a patriotism that finds its expression in taking part and pitching in." Also, for a $20,000 donation you get a chance to put a collar on some new "pitbull" that they have. Some have suggested that barks more like a chihuahua.

Here is a woman who wants her family to be off limits, yet she parades her 17 year old pregnant high school senior daughter alone with her boyfriend who looks like a deer caught, before the world stage and people had the nerve to appauld that? How disgraceful, it is not ok, whats good for all of our children is the same for her, she should have her head in books and not laying around having unprotected sex, and while she spent alot of time muddslinging she lied in the process. this did not come off to me as an intellegent woman but a very foolish one. She is no better than her daughter if you put yourself out there to be used by Mccain knowing full well you have no business going with all those children to the white house, you Sara Palin have prostitued yourself all in the name of being seen and talking junk. I did not hear anything that would allow me to make an informed decision, therefore i remain an independent, and if Mccain is proud of the way Rudy and Mitt shared in the muddslining he is as out of the loop as i though. Rudy cheated on his wife, and his claim to fame is 9/11 he did not handle that the people of New York did. they do what all publin servant do their job. And Mitt there is a reason why you are not the nominee now.

I'm so sick and tired of this presidential race. When are these buffoons going to spend at least one paragraph addressing the issues. I don't care who says what about who. I'm concerned about what are these people we are hiring going to do to address our problems. It's time for a third and fourth party to rise.

i specifically want to address the comment on being a friend to the special need community. Bull.... she has cut programs to families of people with special needs. four months as a parent does not make her the number one advocate for people with special needs! Republicans cut cut and cut the service too these people. It truly makes me sick. Change also starts at home. Putting a four month old child with down's syndrome in a noise chaotic environment for hours... way past a reason bedtime... can only be seen as a political stunt. I think i just threw up a little in my mouth.
