Cindy McCain will speak Thursday.
Cindy McCain will speak Thursday.

(CNN) – The Republican National committee has released excperts of Cindy McCain's speech Thursday night:

On Americans' duty to their country:
"That duty is what brings me before you tonight. And it's much larger and more important than just me or John or any of us: It's the work of this great country calling us together – and there is no greater duty than that, no more essential task for our generation - right now."

On John McCain's character:
"It's going to take someone of unusual strength and character – someone exactly like my husband – to lead us through the reefs and currents that lie ahead. I know John. You can trust his hand at the wheel."

On John McCain leading by example:
"Forgiveness is not just a personal issue: it's why John led the effort to normalize relations with Vietnam retrieve the remains of our MIAs... to bring closure to both sides. That's leadership – national leadership. And it's leading by example."

Personal reflections on John McCain:
"If Americans want straight talk and the plain truth they should take a good close look at John McCain...a man tested and true...who's never wavered in his devotion to our country...a man who's served in Washington without ever becoming a Washington insider...who always speaks the truth no matter what the cost...a man of judgment and character...a loyal and loving and true husband and a magnificent father!"

The bible says: "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge".

My prayer is that we the electorate exhibit enough knowledge to turn this great nation around, from the path of destruction back onto the path of success, where we are supposed to be.

God Bless America!

Mrs. McCain.....you should have told that to Scooter Libby!! There are many ways to "serve" your country not just by joining the military.......

Sorry, I do not want to see our young men and women die while the neo-cons are planning ways to invade Iran.

Hmmm...let's see. Now who is it that expanded the federal government and is spending 10 billion per month in Iraq? Who employed a lobbing firm to obtain 26 or 27 million in earmarks for a town of 8,000? Did you benefit from the Bush tax cuts, or are you one of those wanabees who only wishes it were so?

Regarding Palin's speech and the "Hot Chick" buttons
How sexist .

To use Mr Juliani words "How dare they" present their first female candidate as a "Hot Chick" on the campaign buttons is that all she is?

To the first female candidate "How dare she" parade her daughter and soon to be son- in -law on her coat tails to prove herself to the convention.

Regarding her newborn baby I hope they had sense enough to put earplugs in his ears to protect his hearing.

Question regarding her Troopergate an abuse of power or double standard ethics?

Robert   September 4th, 2008 7:43 pm ET

Obama is out-of-touch with Americans? Vanity-Fair believes Cindy McCain's entire outfit cost over $300,000.

Cindy   September 4th, 2008 7:43 pm ET

Just what can we conclude about John McCain's judgment when he wasn't even aware that his wife, Cindy, was addicted to prescription pain medication she was stealing from her non-profit organization? For someone that wants to preach family values I don't see where McCain or Palin really practice what they preach. Palin is ready at a moments notice to leave her 5-month old special needs infant in the care of her other children while her 17 year old daughter is 5 months pregnant. These children need an actively participating mother and father not a vice-presidential candidate who doesn't think twice before sacrificing them to the press.

Poor Thing   September 4th, 2008 7:42 pm ET

I know that the old dude is her hubby and all, but let me get this straight....
'he is a man of judgement and character?'....mmmmmmmm
Is that what you thought after he left his first wife–crippled first wife and kids-for you?????
'you can trust his hand at the wheel?'.....mmmmmmmmmmm
Keep telling yourself that Cindy Lou. You know good and darn well that you've been giving ol' Sarah the side eye since she popped in the picture. Can't feel to good knowing that an attractive-younger, brunette, will be keeping company with your 'trusting' husband for the next several weeks.
'unusual strength and character?' Yeah he's unusual alright!

Poor thing. Having to follow this delusional old man across country as he tries to grasp at the one thing he's wanted and aspired to since he married you.

Ellie   September 4th, 2008 7:42 pm ET

You spend 7 yrs of your life in a POW camp being repeatedly tortured and how do you think you'd come out of it? Do you think you'd be the same person in the beginning. I sincerley believe that impacted the result of his first marriage. To Tmansion, too bad Mccain didn't think abt your words before he spent his yrs in that POW camp. Perhaps our forefathers, and all veterans who have suffered greatly in past wars should have thougt like you. Where would this country be if they did!!

Rebecca   September 4th, 2008 7:40 pm ET

Really...I agree with maxine that Cindy (gimme that d@mn Vicodin!) McCain has absolutely NOTHING of value to add to the campaign or the country. She certainly doesn't speak for herself, speech writers have written her words weeks ago, just as they did for Palin before she was even chosen. If Michelle Obama had stolen narcotics from her own charity and then had to enter rehab, or if Obamas daughter was 17 unwed and pregnant....do you think for a second they would have said "Oh she's so brave", or proclaimed a victory for Pro-Lifers? Heck no! They would have wanted them drawn and quartered.

CNN censoring any fair criticism of McCain campaign? If not why not carry the comments below?

Sen McCain is a man who:

(1) lacks judgement: voted for the war that has cost thousands of American lifes, a million or more Iraqi's lifes, and trillions of dollars of taxpayers money.
(2) in his own words "does not understand the economy"
(3) was against 'talking with your enemies' before he was for it after his clown (President Bush) changed course and followed Senator Obama's wise position
(4) wanted us to stay 100 years in Iraq; and was against timetable for withdrawal from Iraq before he was for it after the Iraqis and President Bush agreed with Obama's wise position
(5) advocates 'bomb, bomb, bomb Iran' and 'killing Iranians by supplying them cigarettes
(6) has no problem with his advisor calling America a 'nation of whinners'
(7) picked a running mate without vetting and has now sent a team to Alaska to vet her (acts before thinking)
(8) has anger problems and needs anger management
(9) answers questions and latter say "oh, I did not hear the question before answering it' – he would probably agree to anything in the G8 meeting and later tell the nation he did not hear/understand the question
(10) etc

These and many more are some ofthe things that Mrs McCain should include in her list of the character of Sen. McCain

Eleanor   September 4th, 2008 7:37 pm ET

how in Gods name can Cindy McCain with her 300, 000 dress for the convention relate to any average American having difficult times !!!!
dont fall for their lies and their useless promises they never keep... they are both more of BUSH and his crooked policies!!
And Palin is just another pitfbull Rove in a dress!!
A complete turn off!!!

judy, Wisconsin   September 4th, 2008 7:35 pm ET

I wonder if she'll again point out that Palin's foreign policy knowledge is due to Alaska's close proximity to Russia. Let's have a press conference! Enough of this!

Lionel Moore   September 4th, 2008 7:35 pm ET

I don't understand why Mrs. Palin stated yesterday in her "WONDERFUL" that the democrats are for big government? I think it was Bush who wanted Big Brother to get involved, thus "wire tapping." And it is also clear to me that she is an elite, or either out of touch with America so much, that so took a Horrible shot at Obama and insulted all the hard working Americans who beat the streets in their communities and neighborhood every single day to "organize" the places where they live. Many of these "people without responsibilities," also known as community organizers, take on this endeavor because they KNOW that the government is not going to do anything for these, thus creating the need for them to take action themselves. Bush, the president that one republican has talked about yet, learn his lesson the hard was, just ask the people in New Orleans......I rest my case your honor.

Obama/ Biden 08

Eight is Enough   September 4th, 2008 7:35 pm ET

The American Dream is Alive and Well   September 4th, 2008 7:33 pm ET

Just a little note to all the Republicans out there who only want to discuss serving in our military....COMMUNITY ORGANIZERS serve our country too! Organizers have a huge workload and obstacles as they try to help their neighbor, just as soldiers look after the soldier next to them. Community organizers help mobilize people to make their lives better.

I'll say it again~

Community Organizers Serve our Country too

PS: I'm proud to be one of Obama and Biden's donors who contributed to the $8 mill in one day.

I have no respect for this woman, a thief of another woman's husband.

Livia   September 4th, 2008 7:28 pm ET

His first wife sure couldn't trust his hand at the wheel! He filed for a 2nd marriage license before he got a divorce. Oh yeah, and he divorced the first wife after she waited years for him when he was a POW and raising their 3 kids on her own. Then she gets in a horrific car accident which leaves her disabled and McCain wants nothing to do with her. So much for honor and loyalty.

Scott Tucson   September 4th, 2008 7:24 pm ET

Obama's change you can believe in will be to increase your income taxes, as it is now the dems are just waiting in the wings to raise the gas taxes. Once he's done with your paychecks, change would be all you will have in your pockets.

maxine   September 4th, 2008 7:21 pm ET

Cindi McCain is not an authority on anything important to this election. Until the Republicans start talking about the issues, which they are afraid to discuss because of the miserable Bush legacy and McCain's support of it, there can be no important speech by McCain, his wife, or his new VP, just smoke and mirrors.

Ali   September 4th, 2008 7:20 pm ET

Where is MADD in all of this. We've lost about 4100 soldiers if I'm not mistaken. How many are lost to drunk driving each year. First ladies get to chose platforms, right. I'd like to hear a alcohol peddler do more to help families that have lost loved ones to abuse, children that suffer the ramifications of having alcoholic parents, and victims of drunk drivers that suffer permanent disability. This would be a good step, but it might not play well to the base. The base does include unemployed factory working, fishing in the mean time rabble rousers does it not.

I depend on community organizers   September 4th, 2008 7:19 pm ET

I am a social worker in a rough part of town in the south. I love my job- and guess what? I am a strong white woman and I love all Americans. Community organizers and non-profits help so many who are suffering right now that the government doesn't even had an idea. Obama has the heart of a servant. That is why he has my vote because I see the pain in poverty's evil eye everyday. Please post this because my job is so overlooked and now, by Republicans, highly critized.

Obama/Biden.

Thank you.

Marc PDX   September 4th, 2008 7:19 pm ET

Don't worry Dems... looks like Obama will win. Who could top $10 million in a day *after* the Republican VP candidate's speech.

Looks like fist bumps for the Dems...

You complain about your boss not doing his job. You notice he's only working to fatten his pockets with big oil payoffs. He fights all the time with the smaller companies instead of the bigger company that has hurt him the most . Your have not received a raise and you may lose your job because the boss is now outsourcing the jobs. You are about to lose your home. The boss has so many houses he can't count them. The company you work for has not turned a profit in years and has low approval ratings. The boss distributes a company wide memo that reads " I really don't know much about the economy." The boss threatens to release the pitbull on if you keep WHINING. You have put up with his bullying ways for eight long years. Finally your work contract is ending with your boss. As you think about your family's future you ask yourself "Should I continue working for this creep or should I CHANGE employers? ".

It's that simple America. It's time for a change and YOU know it.

ANCIENT PROVERB: Don't let your pitbulls run loose with the moose on the White House lawn.

Tom , Flagstaff, AZ   September 4th, 2008 7:19 pm ET

Cindy McCain said, "Blah blah blah." And then she followed it with Blah blah blah", leading to the conclusion: "Blah blah blah."

mzbond   September 4th, 2008 7:19 pm ET

Mz. Cindy, Americans have taken a good close look at John McCain, and realized that his choice for VP is not good for the country. ONce he kicks the bucket, Palin would be sitting in the Oval Office, and quite frankly, many Americans do not like it. You interviewed her, and I am sure you don't even want her in your home let along running this fine country, this fine country to be once again once Obama is in.

Mark   September 4th, 2008 7:19 pm ET

To heck with this thing about COUNTRY FIRST. The heck I'm a Human Being First before i'm an American citizen. To heck with the idea that we have to put the country, who doesn't give a crap about me nor my family, first. To Heck with the owners of this country who send human beings to fight a war that has no just cause...and they end up losing their lives. God created me a Human Being first, and individual first, before he made me an American Citizen.

Andy in Charlotte, NC   September 4th, 2008 7:18 pm ET

Having strength doesn't necessarily mean you'll make the right choices about policy... like taking sides with Israel or giving foreign aid to everyone. That doesn't sound like "country first" to me.

Hillary Supporter   September 4th, 2008 7:17 pm ET
