The RNC will air a video Thursday night highlighting Palin's biography.

(CNN) – A video highlighting Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin's biography and record as Alaska's governor is set to air at the party's convention Thursday night, senior McCain aides tell CNN.

The three-minute video was originally slated to air Wednesday night before Palin's speech at the convention but was postponed due to time constraints. McCain aides said the video makes a "compelling" case for why John McCain chose Palin as his running mate.

"Mother, moose hunter, maverick," the video's narrator states. “Mayor, governor, maverick. The original maverick made an astute choice when he asked Governor Palin to join him in his effort to remake Washington.

"Alaska, a far corner of America that accounts for 20 percent of our domestic oil, has produced a remarkable woman who's never been afraid to put her city, state, or country first — regardless of consequences," the narrator continues.

The McCain campaign seems to think that the only way to serve your country is in the military. According to them serving your community has no merits…sad

I wonder if she's going to remodel the White House three times like she did her Mayoral office.

Or censor the White House library – point to librarian, if you don't remove the books she deems inappropriate, she will fire you.

I wonder how much more she will increase the budget deficit, she did wonders with Wasilla, of course she increased the taxes collected by 38%, but hey whats a little more deficit.

Of course you can tax food for the rest of the states like you did as Mayor also.

And she makes a mean mooseburger.

SDunn   September 4th, 2008 4:49 pm ET

LOL @ her speech. You mean the one she didn't write. When is she going to be interviewed by the press. What is McCain afraid of. If she's so ready then why is she hiding from the press corp?

Since the conservatives are on the attack, here goes…

John McCain's daddy died at age 70 and his grand daddy died at age 61. Johnny just had his 72nd b-day and gets cancer ever four years. Do you want Palin as president when the old b*stard dies???

Donna   September 4th, 2008 4:47 pm ET

I felt Palin's speech offensive and I also do not believe she represents women well. From a party that is saying she is a "hotty" and even Cindy McCain calling her hot because she is a good looking woman- who could be more sexist than her own party!!! Cindy McCain walks behind her husband, never speaks unless spoken too and acts like the perfect Stepford Wife. I am insulted as a 52 year old single woman that this is a comparison to Hillary or Geraldine. These women are ridiculous. And isn't this the party that didn't want Murphy Brown on TV because it did not express Family Values!! What a joke this whole party is at this time. I am ashamed I was registered Republican at one time. Obama and Biden have the interest of the common people at heart. McCain/Palin have themselves at heart. Yes, she has confidence and maybe way too much. She needs to look at her own house.

Sarah is a one trick pony, and her speech last night showed just how out of step the Republicans are. We've had eight years of divisiveness, and don't want or need another day more.

The top 10 things you should know about Sarah Palin:

1) She is presently under investigation in Alaska for abuse of power

2) She believes creationism should be taught in public schools

3) She is opposed to abortion even in cases of rape and incest

4) She is a champion for big oil and supports drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and everywhere else

5) Less than two years ago she was only the mayor of a small Alaskan town

6) She believes global warming is a farce

7) In 2007 she put out a bounty on wolves paying $150 for turning in legs of freshly killed wolves

8) She is opposed to listing the polar bear as an endangered species

9) She supports aerial hunting of wolves and bears even though Alaskans voted twice to ban the practice

10) She used $400,000 of state money to fund a media campaign in support of aerial hunting

REPUBLICANS, the "Christian" party?….I think not!

Who Cares what the RNC will be airing tonight.
Enough of this Palin already lets deal with some real news like Global Warming ,the Energy problems the Economy.
What is she getting ready to write her first book.
Sarah Palin should after McCain loses go back to where she came from and please stay their.

That's okay, she fired me up to donate $50 to Obama/Biden today! Looks like Obama will raise $10 million dollars before McCain takes the stage tonight.

About higher taxes vs. lower taxes, etc.

You know, I sure paid a hell of a lot more in taxes in 2003 than I did in 1995. Why? Because my income climbed about $100,000 from where it was in 1995!

Yeah I pay a lot more taxes because of that, but I sure had a lot more money in my pocket at the end of the day in 2003 than I did back in 1995. And I was happy to pay my fair share. I still make a lot, but my income doesn't go nearly as far as it did 5 years ago. But we won't go there… that's another issue.

Let's try and focus not so much on how much we pay out, but WHERE that money goes. HOW it is spent. I scratch my head when I hear Republicans call themselves "Conservative". I thought "Conserve" meant to "save"… not spend. Did I miss something?

It burns me up to see my tax dollars totally wasted on greedy officials and politicians from BOTH sides of the aisle. You wanna tax me? Fine. But someone HAS to reel in this ridiculous spending!!

$10 Billion per month on the "War on ____?" I didn't vote for a fill-in-the-blank! Congress didn't vote for that, either! They voted to go to war with Iraq because of Saddam Hussein and WMD's. Seems like those two things are out of the picture now. Money well spent. So QUIT spending MORE! You're done! Mission Accomplished, already!

We're out of cash. Sorry George & Johnny, no more tokens. Time to get off the ride. We can't afford it. We're done. Wish we had more, but we don't.

indiePA   September 4th, 2008 4:42 pm ET

Did I see the magic Republican word "OIL"?? Gee, I wonder why she was chosen….since she's at the forefront of the movement to drill, drill, drill. I also noticed that she is being compared to bush. If she's another dubya, we don't need her!

Trasa, Texas   September 4th, 2008 4:42 pm ET

In truth, she may not be all that bad, but the fact remains, that if they haven't thown this never heard of Governor in our faces and expecting majority of the American people to except her face down, they are clearly wrong. Obama went through the wringer over his qualifications and you still get some comments, we don't know him. And he appeared on the scene in the last Democratic convention. This woman hasn't appeared, that I'm aware of, on a national scene and people need time to get to know her. Personally, I'm still not voting for that ticket because it's the issues, but if I wanted to, springing her on the American people is not a good way to get more votes in. I'm just not going to except anybody. Sounds like they are just handing these spots out to anybody, where can I apply.

You think the media is hard on her wait until she (maybe) sitting in front of Kim, Puttin, etc.

lynn   September 4th, 2008 4:41 pm ET

I'm so confused by this "Obama has no experience" debate.
He was in the STATE senate from 1996-2004 and THEN elected to US senate from 2005-present.
Before that, he was teaching constitutional law at University of Chicago and before that president of the Harvard Law Review.
Not only does he have experience but he is a giant mind!
Wake up America!!! You elected an "ordinary guy" last time! Let's get someone is the white house who is a THINKER, an ACADEMIC, a man with developed critical thinking skills in office this time!
I DON'T want to grab a beer with my president! I want him to be SMARTER and BUSIER than me!!! Someone to look up to and respect rather than hang out with!!!

I like her. She's a very strong woman. I liked her speech last night. She provided background information on her family and what she has done as mayor and governor. Sure she took a few jabs at Obama, but they were rightly so considering the Obama campaign lashed out against her immediately after McCain picked her to be VP. They criticized her experiences. She sure straightened them out.

Ellie   September 4th, 2008 4:40 pm ET

I heard Gov. Palin's speech last night was was a bit taken back by her lack of integrity when it came to telling the truth.

She spoke about having an infant with special needs and that she understands families with special needs children. I think she also said "I will be a Vice President who stands up for families with special needs.

WELL HERE COMES THE KICKER:

What Gov. Palin FAILED TO TELL YOU IS… that as Governor of Alaska SHE CUT FUNDING for families with special needs.

SO do the math…. Gov. Palin is NOT as honorable and many of her women supporters THINK she is.

WOMEN IN THIS COUNTRY BETTER DO THEIR HOMEWORK AND STOP PLAYING THE DUMB BLONDE ROLE!!! DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!!!

And as a plus for hillary she can be seen as hero in the democratic party restoring her image in case obama does not win, and get people to denote to her campaign

Excellent job McCain and Mrs. Palin!! Were all voting for you !!

SAL   September 4th, 2008 4:38 pm ET

One month after the birthday that enfranchised me, I voted for JFK and LBJ. I have voted for a democratic candidate in each election since that time. I have viewed the democratic party to be the party of diversity and the party of the people. Obama is a bright, energetic, charismatic man with great oratorical skills, but his words are not supported by past actions and there is a grandiousity and arogance to his demeanor. He is reminisant of a wet behind the ears, forty something CEO whose only skill is to delegate and take credit for the contributions of "subordinates.(Please don't label this a racist comment.) I cannot vote for this man who is a media and computer generated persona whose rise to power is tied to the good old boys club and a documented voting record in Ilinois that would indicate someone with no convictions about anything except his own political future. Ater hearing Sarah Palin speak and being confronted with the strength of John McCain's character, I am on the edge of voting Republican. To paraphrase Bill Clinton, I would rather vote for someone with whom I agree with 50% of the time who has the skills to implement those things than for someone with whom I agree with 90% of the time, but is unable to implement any of the things that I support. At best. the options are not good.

Why can't all these Obama supporters understand one basic thing – Obama is trying to turn America into a socialist country. Now I don’t know if he brought it from Europe (ro Kenya?) More government is never good for anybody. I was appaled to hear him speak the other day and promise everything between the sun, moon and everything in between! Now that makes me really nervous. This guy needs to do a reality check. How's he going to deliver on all these? Where is the money?. Well, its all empty rhetoric to try and fool the gullible Americans – and by the looks of it, he seems to be succeeding. At leaset McCain talks sense whenever he speaks – he looks mature, honest and does not try and promise the moon.

Hey Alan,
Even your boy John is saying that we cannot afford another Bush term! Remember? He's "shaking up Washington"? "Throwing out old Washington"? Mr. Maverick??

Seriously, you know that's not all. How about Obama's tax cuts and closing loopholes in the tax laws to generate funding for poverty-to-progress programs? I thought you wanted your taxes cut? Now Obama's a bad guy because he wants to lower taxes? Huh??

I don't understand why the Repubs are complaining about this. Obama's plan calls for tax cuts for those making under $240K per year. Unless Fox News is wrong, that pretty much represents most of America.

But if you make more than that, Alan, well, I guess I understand why you wouldn't like that. You have my deepest sympathy.

Wow, what a speech. This is going to be America's first woman president. someday. She's a female Teddy Roosevelt. Strong, smart and gutsy. If anyone can change this government, she can. She's a doier, not just a sayer. She's the real thing.

To all of you that complain about Governor Palin taking the VP job over her family. Would you DARE ask a man that question? If you were an employer in this country, and ask that question you would be sued.

The democratic party platform espouses equality in pay, jobs, etc, but when a successful Republican female gets IN YOUR FACE, now you flip your base platform?

Typical. No wonder your party is ineffective and hasnt been in power in how long?

Keep up the GREAT work Governor Palin. Leadership isnt easy, it doesnt make friends, but you arent there to make friends you are there to run my country, and the McCain/Palin team has my vote.

The Obamabloggers are at it again. Palin got up there and showed them she's not intimidated and the Obama bloggers don't know what to do. I especially like the ones that say she read her speech from a teleprompter when it was obvious she kept looking at notes she had made. The teleprompter guy is Obama. Blitzer was saying last night that Obama was one of the best at reading his speech from a teleprompter.
And then we those that say her speech was written for her. Got news for all of you. All the politicians have their speeches written for them. Yes, even your god, Obama.
Now then there's the thing about being a hunter and cruelty to animals. Wonder how many of those fools are sitting down to a good steak tonight.
And the the sexists that were rampant in these blogs when Hillary was running now have another target for their sick sexism.. And, get this, alot of them are women. Women who have been brainwashed into thinking their inferior . Whose place is with the babies and doing the dishes and "takin care of their man." Looks as if that family is pretty healthy and happy to me and, just think all this while she was Governor, too.
Oh, and supposedly she lied during her speech. Does anyone remember that Obama was "not in the pews" and supposedly didn't know about the good Rev. Wrights far out positions? And then there's the little matter of him claiming that McCain was not for equal pay for equal work. Outright lie and he knew it when he said it. McCain is for equal pay just voted not to extend past six months, the time allowed to file a lawsuit. I guess with Obama being a lawyer he must not have liked limiting the number of chances lawyers have to milk their clients with outrageous fees.
One thing about Obamabots, They've all been given blinders to wear while looking at their idol.

Democrats aren't fearmongering by saying McCain will institue the same – or at least similar – policies as Bush. That is a fact. And based on the state of affairs in the US, that should be a concern.
Please CHECK THE FACTS! Palin gave out so much misinformation – as did others from the party.
Mike – You must not know much about the state of education, especially in some city schools. Unfortunately, teachers do risk death – or at least disability – in some areas of the country.
While I think McCain has a great story, I'm not sure that being a POW is a qualification for the Presidency.
As far as Palin is concerned, I was sick to my stomach listening to all of the hatred and the divisive talk. She does not, nor would she ever, represent my values. Isn't this the party that preaches about God and His grace, and how everything should be based on his teachings. Yet they , one after the other, have no problem smearing, lying, and mocking other people? Hypocrites!
And as for the sexism…Please, spare me. BEING A WOMAN DOES NOT EXEMPT YOU from questions about your voting record and decision making capabilities. Also, I don't recall hearing any Democrat question her ability to be a mother with a young family and a career. I think that was thrown out there by conservatives to add another distration to the actual issues at hand.

Tony   September 4th, 2008 4:07 pm ET

As yourselves one question.

If you had a disease would you want to be seen by a specialist or just any doctor?;

If you needed a surgeon, would you want an expert who deals with your particular problem or a med student?;

If you needed major work done on your car, would you want a qualified mechanic or a gas station attendant to take care of it?;

So, why settle for anything other than the best for your president and vice president???

VOTE NO ON "GEEZER and GIDGET" on November 4th.

Logan - FTL   September 4th, 2008 3:57 pm ET

When I need a doctor, I demand nothing less than the most qualified and educated, when I need a mechanic, I demand nothing less than the most thorough and trained, and when I need a president, I demand nothing less than the most intelligent, qualified, and educated. Why is it that in the United States we choose candidates based not on intelligence, education, or diplomacy but on candidates who we think we can have the most fun sitting around drinking a couple of cold beers together? That is how Bush got elected because people could identify with his good-old-boy appearance.

I could care less if I could sit down with my doctor and discuss a football game with him or her. That is not his or her job, so why do I want a president who I can have a beer with? The president should be the best among us, not the boy/girl next door. Wake up people – you get what you vote for.

WHAT IS IMPORTANT is getting her on the major news interview circuit. This woman sounds a lot more radical than the warm smile she shows as she stabs you. Her choice of PITBULL was not an accident!! They are ruthless, once they lock those jaws, it is over.
Here are some questions I would like to hear answered.
1) Did she really leave the town she was Mayor of with a multimillion dollar deficit?
2) Does she really want to make abortion..ILLEGAL Period? Not just reverse Roe vs Wade, but make it illegal in all states as well.
3) Did she introduce a tax increase on food while cutting taxes on businesses?
We need answers to real questions…No answers..no votes…

As a Democrat who's been on the fence, Palin's speech has won me over. My party has nothing to offer the country. Until it recognizes this and gets a truly legitimate candidate, I'll be voting McCain/Palin,

But what showed me was in Palins speech when she said it is the "one time we will agree with hillary" Shows she does not stand for what I stand for what I respected about Hillary So I will now vote OBAMA

I feel the same way as commenter "Jim". I feel no mother who really cares about her children would select her career over an infant who will need her in many ways and a teenager who may actually not want mom to be in the limelight but would rather have her around more to ask advice, etc. This is not a sexist view but one of what is right for her children at this present time. She was selfish to accept McCain's offer and put her career over family. She is still young enough to follow politics. How can she really focus on the many problems of the (VP)Presidency while she has family issues? Think hard about this selection!

Linda   September 4th, 2008 3:50 pm ET

After watching Sarah Palin, and the Republican Party members, last night, what really gets me is that while the Moral Majority pontificate, about family values, moral issues, and God, how do they rationalize that it is righteous to have Sarah, drag her Down Syndrome baby and her younger daughter, not to mention her knocked up 17 year old, (whose life will change forever, having the baby. Gee, I guess that Sarah might need to clone herself, to fit in the amount of needed time, with her Down Syndrome baby, (he will require extra care and love) and what about her young daughter? Is she dropping out of school to be a "prop for Mom" on stage? By the way, I can't imagine God, supporting one slam after another. The majority of Sarah's delivery last night, was not about bringing peace to the world. What about our economy. What about the environment, once she drills offshore as much as possible? Attack….that is her policy!

Truth Be Told   September 4th, 2008 3:50 pm ET

i just found a new sport ALL americans will love, shooting wolves from the air, after running them to exhaustion. i learned that sarah palin was going to fund this sport, after she cuts the other social fundings in her state. wow, exactly the VP we need in these times!

Bill   September 4th, 2008 3:49 pm ET

The bigger she gets, the smaller McCain appears. I can't believe she bled into his day (so to speak). In just a little while, she'll be referred to as the "Republican star of the future" as a tacit acknowledgment that the current election is lost.

Ralph Peoria, Il   September 4th, 2008 3:49 pm ET

Oh Boy, I just can't wait. The picture seems to suggest that she is impersonating a military person. Isn't that against the law?

WHO IS SARAH PALIN? REALLY, WHO IS SHE?   September 4th, 2008 3:49 pm ET

Did I mention she didn't mention anything about the Economy, our Energy crisis, Fair Trade, Health Care or Education. Why? Because, she hasn't been briefed yet! Imagine that. Yet, the GOP wants us to believe she is ready to lead. Yes, lead us in a pageant or maybe moose hunting, but not our country.

Independent from PA   September 4th, 2008 3:48 pm ET

She reads a good speech, but she defiitely couldn't have written it herself; and it was frankly very insulting considering that she came into the game late and is kind of a token choice vs. working the roads like Pawlenty et al. Her record is full of holes and she needed to project some sense of her own self and not the right wing pit bull dog she very successfully conveyed.. which won't help McCain win

roxanne   September 4th, 2008 3:48 pm ET

Fit to run a country because she give a speech that was written by someone else. if she was so brilliant, why didn't she write her own speech. What is she going to do, throw that speech at Ben Laden?

Boy are the ultra-left wing liberals mad about little Sarah. Must mean John made a good pick. Last night I remembered what it feels like to be an American, where you can live your life as you choose not how government dictates. Obama however shows me how it felt to live in the communist USSR. The country takes care of everything you need, and takes ALL of your money and dreams. I for one don't want to become a slave to the federal government. I want my freedom! Change is what is needed in Washington, while Obama wants to grow Washington.

Will some journalist, any journalist ask Governor Palin …If scientists and physicians professionally stated there is a high probablity of finding a cure to many diseases through stem cell research would she vote in favor of it? I do not mean to be insensitive, but her choice would reflect a personal decision for her son (Downs Syndrome) and family and a decision for 100,000s of U.S. families with special needs children (or spouses or parents). I look forward to a question like this being asked and her reply.

PALIN: “Before I became governor of the great state of Alaska, I was mayor of my hometown.”

REALITY: UNDER PALIN, WASILLA GOVERNMENT SPENDING & DEBT SKYROCKETED.

Total Government Expenditures Increased 63 Percent Under Palin. In fiscal 2003—the last fiscal year Palin approved the budget—the total government expenditures of Wasilla, excluding capital outlays, were $7,046,325. In fiscal 1996—the year before Palin took control of the budget—the expenditures were $4,317,947. The increase was 63 percent. [Wasilla Comprehensive Annual Financial Report 2003, Table 1]

Palin Supported Increasing Wasilla Sales Tax From 2 to 2.5 Percent to Build $14.7 Million Sports Center. “Wasilla residents have given the go ahead to building a new multiuse sports center in town and to raising the city sales tax to pay for it. With the final votes counted Friday, residents voted 306 to 286 in favor of a measure to raise the city sales tax from 2 percent to 2.5 percent to pay the estimated $14.7 million cost of building the center…Mayor Sarah Palin, who supported the measure, said the tight vote will motivate city officials to keep a close eye on the budget for the center.” [Anchorage Daily News, 3/9/02]

Palin Left Behind Almost $19 Million In Long-Term Debt, Compared to None Before She Was Mayor. In fiscal 2003—the last fiscal year Palin approved the budget—the bonded long-term debt was $18,635,000. In fiscal 1996—the year before Palin took control of the budget—there was no general obligation debt. [Wasilla Comprehensive Annual Financial Report 2003, Table 10]

A smart, accomplished, experienced, driven AND attractive woman who has been able to run a state and actually effect change (not just say it in speeches) all while raising a family and overseeing the production of over 20% of America's total domestic oil and natural gas output? How come Sarah Palin slashed programs for kids with special needs by **67%** before convceiving her special needs child? And then she has the nerve last night to say that she'll be an advocate in the White House for families who have children with special needs?

WHO IS SARAH PALIN? REALLY, WHO IS SHE?   September 4th, 2008 3:45 pm ET

I'll tell you who Sarah Palin is; she's the republicans bad guy (or should I say girl). This woman has more drama than a Friday episode of All My Children. I can't wait til the media gets to the part about she and her husbands memberships in the AIP (Alaskan Independent Party), and the fact that poor Trig isn't even her child; this womans got more stories going on than a Mother Goose book! She left her small town in millions of dollars in debt and all the while fired anyone who wouldn't help her on her campaign, after she became governor. I have four children and work and I must say, it's alot of work; I just want to know how she plans on balancing her family of 5 children (with a special needs child), husband, grandbaby and an old man who will need changed just was much as Trig. GOOD LUCK!

48 hours preparing a scripted speech…let the pit bull off leash to answer questions on domestic, international, and global issues. McCain would never have chosen a man with this bio to be a heartbeat away from the Presidency. He can go after his poltical "base" and fire them up with mockery (hers) and jokes (his) but how does he plan to govern America? Oh, and I heard one of the commentators ask "What's his "executive experience"?

Jim in Raleigh   September 4th, 2008 3:45 pm ET

Now, now, don't be critical of the Republicans – they'll call us all angry liberals.

Good grief! We should all be angry at what eight years of a Bush adminstration and six years of a Republican congress have given us. Every American outside the top 2% of wage earners should be fit to be tied.

Go ahead. Call me an angry liberal. *^*& straight I'm angry – and proud of it. More Americans need to be angry at what W and his cronies have done – and at a man who self-proclaimed his 90% agreement with the Bush polcies.

We should be more than angry about abuse of power, the trampling of the Bill of Rights, and the outright lies told to us for eight years.

Angry Americans unite and throw the bums out! McSame can "recapture" something they've held and abused for eight years!

If the Republicans go down the road they went down in 1992 and said, 'Gee, things are actually getting better, this economy is pretty good,' they are going to run into the same kind of hostility and disdain," said Democratic strategist Robert Shrum. "And they’re going to make a bad situation politically even worse."

If she was on the Democratic 2008 ticket with all the negative information that has been revealed about her, the Republicans would be up in arms much more than what we're hearing from the press now. They just don't understand that they can't have it both ways. An example of a reformist govenor would be my govenor, Janet Napolitano of Arizona who can work with a majority Republican legislature to really run a state efficiently, with results that are unreproachable.

Ammaro   September 4th, 2008 3:44 pm ET

It doesn't say much for McCain's confidence in his Veep's experience that she wasn't allowed to write (or even offer significant input to) her convention speech. Here's a quote from electoral-vote.com, a well-known election analysis site:

"Her speech was written by former White House speechwriter Matthew Scully but she has been rehearsing it for several days with McCain aides coaching her. Normally, experienced politicians work with speech writers to polish the words, but with such an important speech from someone who has never given a prepared speech to a national audience before, a pro had to write this one."

Here's a Washington Post article about how the speech was actually written before a Veep was selected, but had to be significantly reworked for her:

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/postpartisan/2008/09/putting_words_in_palins_mouth.html

I know speechwriters are involved with most major political speeches, but as mentioned above, generally the politician gets to either write a draft that is cleaned up by the writers or at least help tailor the final product. Shouldn't someone at the Veep level be capable of working with speechwriters to least offer significant input to a speech? Especially when the speech is introducing the politician and talking about her own background. The fact that she wasn't allowed to doesn't say much for the McCain team's confidence in her, despite their public statements.

In the articles and commentary talking about how this speech signals Palin's ability to make convincing arguments and how it shows she will do well in the debates with Biden, there is no mention that she didn't even write the speech. I'm curious to see how she does when she doesn't have Bush's former speechwriter crafting her words for her.

Soldier 4 OBAMA   September 4th, 2008 3:44 pm ET

As a Soldier in the Military, I am more than alittle offended by Palin wearinging a military garg and the idea of the GOP is to tell us she is a CIC (Commander In Chief) when she has no responsibility over the military in her home state more so than the 2 Star Adjutant General there. This who thing is such a farce that only the GOP will have the gaul to do it and they are doing it, however it is such a "blatant" farsce it will be recalled as "NAOTHER MISSION" accomplished banner and it is. Yes Paulin is been billed as the candidate of Change for the GOP, but although it is a change with a Y replacing an X it doesn't change policy and the DEMOCRATS break that barrier 20 years ago, so the GOP is 20 years behind the CHANGE WE SEEK AND DESPERATELY NEED. What does ALASKA have in common with the lower 49? nothing a state with 600K PEOPLE is a county in most states, wake up we don't need a County Commissioner running the nation, this is such a farse. Paulin seem to be the one running for President, but lets not forget John McCain is the head of that ticket and palin is nothing but a grand Illusion scheme.

Also, in response to her nastiness last night about Obama's qualifications: What is a PTA president if not a "community organizer" where the community is the size of a single school. Her disregard for his real experience and education makes her look like the small-town hick she is.

In ready previous blogs, I'm amazed that people believe that Companies left the United States because of over taxation. Republicans have been giving tax breaks for companies to leave the US. The reason they left was to maximize profits, play like they were still US companies to get tax breaks and not have to take care of their empolyees. The went to third world countries that are repressive with their workers, pay nothing, but get billions from sales in the US. The final straw is the partnership with China. Make to companies come back to the US, tax them to create new jobs to replace the ones they took away. Americans are spoiled, we pay less taxes than any of the other Western Countries. Be political, but be informed with facts, not political party propaganda.

It is very troubling to me that Palin insinuatingly mocked the concepts of Miranda Rights and Habeas Corpus in her speech last night. This attitude is what perpetuates the status of the United States as an arrogant nation. Following an obsolete ideology such as the one she suggests and shares w/ the GOP will never lead to victory in the "War On Terror." By spewing ignorant rhetoric about how we as a nation are somehow superior to other inhabitants of the world only facilitates new hatred for America. It is time to understand that only worldwide cooperation can truly end war and terrorism. The United States has been in a constant state of war for over five decades (there are a lot more covert military operations the vast majority of the U.S.A. has no idea are taking place), and we now have more "enemies" than ever before. Please don't vote for McSame/Palin, their tired policies will lead us nowhere but closer to a worldwide quagmire.

Between hatred and love, people has a tendency to gravitate toward love. That 'stirring' feeling that Obama was talking about, that's love, and we felt it, all across the country as we listen to him speak. We have to come together to rebuild this country in this critical time. And you know, when there is love, there is God. This Republican convention, in contrast, is full of mockery, which I believe will drive people away.

Country First. What and Who in this Country are you going to put first? Give us details? At least Obama gan give a speech with substance and details….where is yours? You need to do more than insult your opponent…thats easy.

Jesse, St. Louis Park, MN   September 4th, 2008 3:39 pm ET

CNN…DO YOUR JOB AND FACT CHECK HER SPEECH INSTEAD OF SLOBBERING ALL OVER IT.

Claude   September 4th, 2008 3:39 pm ET

Palin may have energized the far right wing zealots, but what about the
rest of us?

Wayne   September 4th, 2008 3:39 pm ET

Truthfully I can't picture any of the candidates in the White House.

But, I am open minded enough to want to hear something about the issues…..I did't hear any last night. Maybe McCain will spell it all out for us.

There are so many people hurting in this country, and we need a strong leader to turn things around. Not sure who that is exactly yet.

I didn't think her comment about him being a community activist was called for. That's belittling.

Also, I am a Pro-Choice Christian woman of 66. I disagree with her on that issue…..just don't know enough about her yet. First impression wasn't too good.

I did not like OBAMA at all either, but I am warming up to him. We only have 60 days to get to know her. I remember Obama's speech from the 2004 convention and was very impressed.

We'll have to see how this all plays out……bring on the debates.

Rodham Democrat   September 4th, 2008 3:38 pm ET

It's a fair question to ask Gov. Palin how she'll balance family and work. She has a very unusual family and is therefore not a typical woman and mother like she's claiming to be.

Had Sen. Obama had Gov. Palin's family situation, I would ask him the same question.

Gov. Palin has FIVE children, one of whom is an infant with special needs, one of whom is heading to Iraq, and one of whom is 17 and pregnant.

To me, Gov. Palin's family would be a distraction. How would she be able to be the loving, supportive mother she's claiming to be while serving our country as our Vice-President?

velmeezee   September 4th, 2008 3:38 pm ET

I think that the Republicans have developed their own new wave English language that the rest of us are yet to decipher. "Empty suit" seems to mean someone with great ideas that they wish they would have came up with first. "Experienced" seems to mean having memorized GOP propaganda and able recite it ferverently on command. "Maverick" seems to mean someone that has no idea what to do about anything, so they either steal an idea from a democrat or pretend like the issues don't exist. "Arrogant " seems to mean intelligent. How interesting.

Jeffrey J. Menning   September 4th, 2008 3:38 pm ET

After Sarah Palin's speech last night at the RNC I have no respect for her. The Republicans want us to believe that she is an intelligent confident female politician ie. Hillary Clinton, however she presented herself as a standup comic at the "Laugh Shack" with a two drink minimum.

Ms Palin did not represent the Republicans or women in a positive light.

One other thing…how are we suppose to take her seriously when a bunch of old white men at the convention are wearing buttons that say "vote for the hot chick" and "hot hockey mom"?

Anonymous   September 4th, 2008 3:38 pm ET

not a big fan of the Daily Show

HOWEVER Jon Stewart pointed something out!

Did anyone notice that a Karl Rove stated that if Obama picked Gov Tim Kaine it was

"Tim Kane has been a governer for 3 years and been a Lt Governor and been a mayor of a small city (OF 200,00) So it wouldnt be a pick for someone who is qualified to be a President if something happened to Obama"

Then

Last night he said about Mccain picking Palin
"She has been a mayor of a TOWN (not CITY of 9,000) She has been a Governor for 14 months so she obviously has experience"
WOW

LOL LOL LOL LOL

REPUBLICANS ARE STUPID !!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh my " John Wayne." Anyone that knows me knows this is SOME accolade! Even my deceased Father would have approved, in spades! And he was a John Wayne champion. They broke the mold when they created John Wayne , but Sarah palin sure makes the grade. SHE'S GOT MY VOTE. AND I HAVEN'T EVEN SEEN THIS BIO VIDEO! I believe we have a winning tean here.

Well the way I see it, the Democrats read a teleprompter too, and they read there notes as well. I have NO respect for the Democrats at all they want Abortion which is Murder and God says not to commit Murder, and they want the homosexual agenda, and they want this taught in our schools and they are doing it now, so if you want to get down low and dirty this is it, they are low down and dirty, they do alot of behind the back door tactics as well, and put on there fake smiles and pertend that there all for the American people, well I say this, they have NO guts or back bone when they can vote for and allowed for children to be pullled apart in the womb, and then they have the Media say NOTHING about it, and they are low down and dirty, they have there hand full of blood along with the Democrats, and dont think the God who Made your soul Dont See, and Cant Hear, because he does, you can pull your secret tactic, But remember there really not hidden from God Eyes, for Mans Ways Are In Full View Of His Eyes

Don   September 4th, 2008 3:37 pm ET

The democrats seem very upset about Sara Palin. I think it’s because your candidate’s cover is blown. Could it be that she didn’t have to quit a hate-spewing church, pretend she was never a Muslim or apologize for ex-terrorist friends. She’s a real-life Wonder Woman who is proud to own guns, hunt, fish, own a float plane and doesn’t think it’s her above her pay grade to declare that life starts at conception and a leader we can believe in, not a man who sells the magic words “hope” and “change.”

Clarence Palin   September 4th, 2008 3:37 pm ET

She reminds me of Clarence Thomas, he was nominated by the Bush Administration to appease the African Americans and now we have Sarah Palin nominated by the Bush/McCain Administration to appease the women in this Country. The republicans keep pushing historic change, but this woman doesn't have any record of standing up to women's rights and special children's rights except opposing legislation that supports these things. This woman would send women back to the dark ages with some of her extreme views. SImilarly Clarence Thomas who probably vote for servitude if it came before the supreme court. The really sad thing is that some people thought he would change once he was appointed, NOT, and I would be our economy that if this woman was elected, women's rights as we know them would end.

Doug   September 4th, 2008 3:37 pm ET

Dear Gail (message #2)
This is nothing new. Take any story on the political ticker and the results are the same. If the elections were based solely on CNN observers, the elections would never be in question. But whether you like it or not, the reat of the nation would like to have a say in these matters as well.

Anonymous   September 4th, 2008 3:36 pm ET

I am offended. The speech was dumbed down, loaded with catchy, short, meaningless phrases on a caliber of a high school senior. It insults the intelligence of the each American with an education and blessed with common sense. We need to show ourselves and the rest of the world that we are smart enough to vote for a future leader with vision, perception, knowledge of history and cultures, inspiration and charm to gain the respect of world leaders with whom he or she must work in the future. To appeal to "the average" and to feel and behave "average" should not be acceptable to the citizens of our country. Let us demand more from our leaders.

No extremeright Palin   September 4th, 2008 3:36 pm ET

TruthBeTold   September 4th, 2008 3:36 pm ET

So what, she shoots a wolf from the air? Who cares? I guarantee that none of u honestly give a crap about a wolf…and if you do…ur priorities are badly misplaced.

Peachy Keen   September 4th, 2008 3:36 pm ET

Sorry, I felt that Palin's speech was nothing but sarcastic and totally uninspiring. It was obviously written for her because with her limited knowledge on Washington and world affairs, she had no way of knowing half of what she talked about.

She does totally fit in with the Republican model of no solutions, just smear. Barack Obama makes her look like a child.

Lisa   September 4th, 2008 3:35 pm ET

Are we going to hear the lie about the bridge to nowhere again?

Pathetic. I cant wait to hear the debates. All the McPalin camp has done is feed lies to the weak! Biden is going to tear Palin apart on issues that are the real focus of voters, not lies!

A few concerns non-decided voters should know about Palin is:

1. She believes God created the Iraq War(see her video speech).

2. She believes no to abortion, even if your young daughter is raped!

3. She doesnt believe in teaching kids the dangers and ways to prevent teen pregnancy at a young age.

4. The Change/reform she believes in is her own self interest. if you disagree, you'll soon find out that she will replace you with someone who will do anything she says!

5. She threatened a Librarian to take books off the shelf that some of her supporters didnt like or get fired.

6. Remember the song "the back stabbers?" Some of the words go like this that describe Palin to a T. "They'll smile in your face, all the while, they want to take your place, the BackStabbers"

7. And this one about Palins Wanna be experience. The town she left 20 months ago in Wasilla? She left with a 20 million dollar budget DEFICIT! 20 MLLION? are you kiding me? I thought Alaska received more $ per person from pork barrel spending, I thought Alaska was so rich. I thought running a small town of 6,000 was easy. I guess not. Well, if you cannot do the job with such a small town, how can you expect to run a country?

P.S. Biden received 72,000 votes for the 2008 dem primary. Thats way more than all the years Palin received as mayor combined.

If you want to know the numbers compared to Obama. Alaska has 650,000 people. Illinois has 12 Million. Obama received 18 million votes of confidence as well as the Millions he received being elected as a state legislature for 8 years and a sitting US senator for almost 4. There are also thousands of laws he voted on and led. Enough Said!

Eugenia Chargois   September 4th, 2008 3:35 pm ET

I am a Community Health Worker and I was upset by Sarah Palin remark about Barrack Obama experience as a Community Advocate, I feel this is one of the greatest Leadership and experience a person can possess because it shows where there heart is wanting to help and be a voice for those that can't help themselves. This is an insult and I didn't appreciate her mocking this position of leadership and great works.Shame on her, Shame on her, maybe she need to be more involved in Community Work starting with sex education and teen pregnancy.

Palin seemed likable at first but the more I learn about her the more reservations I have. It seems like she attended a church with a pastor every bit as outrageous as Obama's former pastor. Has she denounced his extremist rhetoric? I don't think having someone who is going to push a religious fundamentalist agenda such as outlawing contraceptives and wedging discredited creationist propaganda into public schools helps sell the McCain ticket to moderates who otherwise might be considering him an acceptable choice.

I think she sounded like a Miss America candidate when describing her family and background and not a VP candidate. Just more Republican kool aid . . .sure she fires up the base – the votes they already had. Palin's not going to play well with moderates and independents. Last night's speech was toxic (as were Romney's and Giuliani's). If she's all the GOP is saying she is, let her out solitary confinement and get her on the Sunday morning talk show circuit.

Moose meat is just the best. Why is it the non meat eating oddballs not living in Alaska. The woman is a butt kicker and a regular person. It is about time. We will give $ again to the Republican party.

Katie-FL   September 4th, 2008 3:33 pm ET

And here is something for all you morons claiming Palin's daughter is pregnant because her mother didn't teach her values…that is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Some of the worst people in history have had the best parents. Nowadays, you can tell kids all the right things, but they will ultimately make their own decisions. Her family is REAL, with real issues like alot of modern families. How many teen pregnancies are there in America each year? Look it up. I suppose all these parents were irresponsible too? Bullsh++. Some of the worst Alcoholics and Drug Addicts have great parents, so how do you explain that one??

Maria Texas   September 4th, 2008 3:33 pm ET

OH, and for those of you who believe she read the speech off a teleprompter all the time last night…you'll be surprised to know that for much of that time, the teleprompter technician sped it up and didnt allow for all the pauses during the standing ovations. So Sara was speaking from her heart much of that time. Compare this to Obama who can't even recite a nursery rhime without the telepromoter being on target 100% of the time. If what the technician messed up on obama the way they did erroneously did for Sara last night, you better believe that tech would have been fired on the spot by obama himself! He's just an orator with a lot of hot air.

Gail wants us to believe that 80% was against what Palin stood for–20% are with her—
even though it was 50%-50% among the commentators–
Talk about spin—Fox had it the other way–Maybe you were confused =
Like Biden last night in Fl–
Saying they ( Obama and Him ) were going to prosacute Bush for war crimes—When asked this morning –he didn't know what they were talking about until they aired his statement—
How this blog allows liars like some you to put statements on that are not true—
You fail to understand that they only allow the negative ones to show thru—

Any idiot can give birth but it takes a mother to raise them and make them her priority.

Any idiot can shoot a gun but it takes only a smart person wouldn't say that qualifies them to be vice-president.

Any good looking woman can win a beauty pageant but it takes a speech writer to make you look politically legit.

Can't wait until the debate and see the deer in headlights stare coming out of her like some of the animals she's killed.

Gail –

Don't waste your time doing "CNN comment surveys." Your numbers have ZIPPO statistical value. If anything they purport inference that cannot be meaningfully made.

Of course, if you are interested in the proportion of people likely to post shrill comments on CNN who actually DO post them, then have at it…

Vegas Barbie for Obama   September 4th, 2008 3:32 pm ET

Three whole minutes? Hire someone to shriek and whine and you can be done with it in 45 seconds or less.

Jim   September 4th, 2008 3:32 pm ET

There wasn't any time constraints about the video…they probably had some focus groups who hated it, so they had to go back, tweak it, and make it less or more…whatever…so people would actually sit through it without rolling their eyes.

Teddy California   September 4th, 2008 3:31 pm ET

Democrats are distracted by Palin. They are aiming at the wrong targets. In the Democratic convention, they aimed repeatly at Bush and they said McCain would another Bush term. I think direct hit might be more damaging. Now, they are aiming the fires at Palin. Most agree Palin has more executive experiences, but Obama has more overal experiences and more foreign affair experiences. This is the wrong target again. You are comparing the democratic top ticket with the Republican running mate.

If Democrats lose this Presidential election, it will be the biggest Presidential upset in the U.S.A. in the past several decades! All conditions and environments are made for a Democratic win in November.

Vegas Barbie for Obama   September 4th, 2008 3:31 pm ET

When the convention is over, we'll see her debate on the issues facing America.

This speech had ZERO substance…

No mention of the Economy
No mention of the War
No mention of Health Care

This speech only electrified the Republican base, not the entire nation.

In the beginning I was open minded regarding Mrs. Palin even though I am a democrat. I was proud of her as a woman so I wanted to wait until I heard her speech to make up my mind about her. After last night's speech she lost the respect and admiration I had for her. Yes she is a good speaker and I would not take that away from her. But how dare she and the McCain campaign try to belittle the role of community organizers. Martin Luther King, John Adams, Malcom X, Jesse Jackson, and many others started out as community organizers so you not only bashed Obama you bashed all those little community organizers that have paved the way for others. And then Palin turns around and brags on how she sold a jet on ebay. Are You Serious? Does selling items on ebay really make you qualified? Last night I was hoping to get know Sarah Palin and in a strange way I think I did. Palin, one who avoids discussing herself and her beliefs by bashing others. Palin, a woman who speaks division therefore has proven she cannot cross party lines for the better of the people.

cHRis, SC   September 4th, 2008 3:30 pm ET

Her voice is asinine , nothing she has to say has struck me as intellectual, and yes, i can read a teleprompter too. I don't care if she's governor or not. She has no business running to be VP with 5 kids and one of them being handicapped. I hope everyone makes a wise decision this November.

She also is very hypocritical in what she says she believes in God but has no problem disrespecting him by saying someting about "spreading the seas and healing the earth" also about her wanting to teach abstenance in schools when she did no teach it at home. Typical republican hypocrite. GO OBAMA AND BIDEN

Since they won't tell us that she voted for the "Bridge to Nowhere, before she voted against it, and:

that her husband was twice a registered member of the Alaskan Independence Party, looking to have Alaska secede from the U.S., and:

that she hired lobbyists to try and get $27 million dollars in earmarks, whcih she and McCain both say they are against; and

that she and McCaina re vehemently agsitn sex education in the schools and believe iin ABSTINENCE ONLY (although she forgot to mention that to her daughter), and;

that she coted for Pat Buchannan in 2000and hold to many of his beliefes, and;

that she says God wanted the war in Iraq; and (whew)

that she is under invsetigation for abusing the power of her office by firing a State Commissioner beecause he wouldn't fire her ex-brother in law.

The verdict comes on that on October 31st. Stay tuned.

Her first speech she launched into her women rant and she was booed. Booed right there with John McCain!!! Booed by an audience of "admirers". Four years ago perhaps you could have slid in a female in hopes it would appease the women voter, but it's 2008 and people need change in the government.

Just thought I would point your noses towards the issues and not extraneous fluff.

Hope this helps.

Drew   September 4th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

So she's a moose hunter. That makes her unable to be a VP?

So he's a Senator that hasn't been in office very long. That makes him the worst presidental canidate ever?

Come together America and lets get to the real issues and put who's going to be our best hope in office.

Some of us are so stupid that we look at little things like what Party the are from and let thet sway our vote from the better canidate.

vicky   September 4th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

This party is so proud. McCain returns from war, cheats on first wife before divorce, marries, selects running mate who has her own family problems and the party thinks they are holier than thou. McCain shakes hands with Levi. What is he saying to this young man? Job well done. All this hugging and kissing is nauseating and so hypocritical. I notice Sarah having a hard time kissing Levi. These adults should quit exploiting these children. How did they convince this young man to marry? My sympathy goes out to this couple as they don't know what's in store for them as they still have a lot of growing up to do. What a soap opera!

Stop it   September 4th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

Sarah! Huh? I want to know how do she think that she can take all of Hillary's votes. She can't even campare herself to Hillary. Hillary daughter is not pregnant and is was not at 17. I think that McCain only picked her because Barack did not pick hillary so he had to go pick a women. Trying to be Slimmy. If that is all he got then he is done. Why would you go pick someone that don't know anything. She can't even write her own speech. If she can't even do that what make you think that she is quilified to run the U.S. I thought that the republicans were against kids before marriage?

Disgusted   September 4th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

Another thing. Why hasn't Sarah Palin done any interviews? What are the Republican's afraid of? Something smells fishy here.

GREAT SPEECH LAST NIGHT MRS. PALIN. MCCAIN/PALIN 08

Maria Texas   September 4th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

For all those who commentied against Sara Palin…I feel sorry about your insecurity, your hatefulness, and the liberal bias of CNN and their readership. It's quite obvious that you're all sore losers because Sarah hit it out of the ballpark. Sara is the real deal and not a fraud like Obama who has never really served his country or have any experience other than 'organizing' something. For those of you who don't live in the real world and attack her on being a mother, just look in your own closet as to whether your own kids love you, smoke pot behind your back, how many have had abortions and you don't even know it. Why are you not judging obama and michelle and asking them what kind of parents would subject their own kids to Sunday after Sunday listening to Rev. Wright preach hate against white people and against America? Wake up as you're all being fooled and you can't see it bec of your concrete blinders and white guild and racist views. i'M A LIFELONG DEMOCRAT AND I CAN SEE SARA IS THE REAL AMERICAN WHO I CAN RELATE TO. GO MCCAIN/PALIN!!

NoPalin   September 4th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

Sarah Palin is a good tool to use for those wimpy sentimental conservatives, but her rhetoric will not work with the common sense people that care about more than a perfect family story. After all, she is just an average "hockey mom" and was on the PTA board. Who cares about this, I care about the issues at stake, which she said NOTHING about, all she did was attack the democratic ticket. Her little "Leave it to Beaver" stories may work with those emotionally sensitive evangelicals and those sentimental conservatives, but it will never work for me, nor will it for anyone who has any common sense.

Fine print at the end of the movie: "Brought to you by Leni Reifenstahl".

The convention looks like a Stormfront rally.

Want a fun game? Play "Where's Waldo" with wide angle shots of the convention floor, except instead of looking for Waldo you're looking for a minority. If you want to make it a drinking game, take a shot every time you actually find one.

suzanne   September 4th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

The Democrats were intent on nominating an inexperienced black candidate rather than a much more qualified female candidate. With the help of the media and his fanatical followers, Obama is in a position to be the next President of the United States. That idea scares the hell out of me and I'm a lifelong Democrat. I'm ashamed of my Party. Good work Guys. I'm voting for McCain/Palin.

tonyP   September 4th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

to the PETA person…do you know more than 200 people are killed each year by deer and as more restrictions are placed on hunters the numbers keep raising. I am not a hunter nor do I own a gun, but also I have never met a hunter that kills for fun. they do it because they enjoy being part of nature and hunting your own food is part of that. to watch these animals die of starvation from over population is not ethical treatment of animals. hunting is natural and in balance with the laws of nature. go back to protesting the treatment of farm animals you're on much sounder moral ground there. you just sound ignorant when you object to hunting

Dotty   September 4th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

Sorry Sarah I don't want a person like you for vice president, you are too rought this kind of bashing I don't care for, what are people going to think of you once they find out you once belonged to a group in Alaska who wanted to secede Alaska from the United States, therefore you would not be an American. Don't think many people cared for your kind of put downs for Obama/Biden, if that is all you can do, you don't have much to offer.

Katie-FL   September 4th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

I lived in the great state of Alaska for years, and it was one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. Hunting and fishing is a way of life up there, and very widely accepted. PETA people grow up! Why don't you focus on real issues pet abuse, abandonment, etc. Moose is hunted primarily for meat, just like beef here in the lower 48. If you've never had moose hamburgers, steaks or anything else, then you know nothing about it, so put a sock in it. Yeah, she bashed Obama, but after enduring days of criticism unduly doled out by the media idiots. She is a fresh face in Washington, not afraid of the Good Ol Boys, you know, the same ones contributing to Obama's campaign!

Jim Savannah GA   September 4th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

Interesting that when someone comes out of the "woods" to comment on the establishment, the Demo's flood the media with comments on what a creep Palin appears to be…it only underscores how the media tries to control the politics in Washington and allow more government control over our lives…

The negative statements that have come out against Palin truly surprised me when this group [Demos] wants to elect an individual who would give this country away to alien interest…the reason for the critique…they are deathly afraid that now there is truly an American ticket and team on the platform running for this country instead of against it…

All the dems were overjoyed with the pick of Biden, calling him an attack dog that would chew McCain and his VP pick to pieces. You under estimated Palin and got b****slapped. Don't take it personal. Plus there's probably a lot more coming.

Duke   September 4th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

Why get bent out of shape. This Palin glow is going to be short lived. She has not been vetted, but will over the next couple of weeks. Once people really hear about her views she will be summarily rejected by the vast middle majority of Americans. Yes, she will solidify the right fringe fanatics, but she will not appeal to the middle at all. In other words, the repugs cannot win the white house, period.

Given the mood of the nation and the numbers on the democratic side, McCain needs to pull at least 3/4 of the independents to have a chance. Palin insures that he will not get even half. This is

Game Over

Bold move by the repugs but it will not pay off in the end or let me say, this particular election cycle. Will have to revisit in 4 years.

Bryan Tallahasee Florida   September 4th, 2008 3:24 pm ET

It truely amazes me how some of you write in these comments. Many of you that praise Obama are finding it to be quite the challenge to spell or phrase your thoughts correctly. I'm sure this has an enormous reflection on the education of such commentors. When you lack intelligence or are misinformed of the facts, the surfacing truth of such is evident to those of us who are! It is always better to keep your mouth shut and allow others to just think you are a fool than to speak your mind and remove all doubt! If you are interested in what's "Nuasiating", it's listening or reading from a buffet of fools. Pay attention America!! The truth is all around you!

Roni Finkelstein   September 4th, 2008 3:24 pm ET

If Gov. Palin was running for cheerleader I would say her speech last night was definitely a home run. But running to be Vice-President to a man who has had three bouts with melanoma, I want to know her priorities. Why would she want to continue a war that was started under false pretenses and if she does continue it how will she pay for the war when she plans to cut taxes? What sort of Supreme Court justices will she want to nominate? How does she plan to bring health care to all of us? How will she make college affordable for the average family? Her family is lovely and compelling, but then, so is mine.

TruthBeTold   September 4th, 2008 3:24 pm ET

Not to mention, If you ppl ever listened to or read actual analysis, You'd know that the teleprompter never stopped going during applauses. So she no longer could rely on it and basically had to wing it for at least half the speech! Yet she still pulled off a great speech!

Does Barack or Joe or even John McCain use the word father to qualify themselves to the American public?
This was, literally, the first qualifier the McCain campaign used for picking Sarah Palin, which would obviously bring the focus to this part of the candidate. They are again using it tonight to qualify her to the American people. I think the press was easily roped into this one. NO WHERE ELSE DO MEN USE THE FACT THAT THEY ARE FATHERS AS QUALIFIERS!

erika   September 4th, 2008 3:24 pm ET

I could have sworn that since 96 or better the republiecans had been in control of the house and the senate. what the hell did they do then nothing. Since they have had Bush that bankrupted the company he worked for and now Sarah who bankrupted the town she was Mayor of !!! Not to mention I think her daughter is greatest vision of family values I've ever seen being in the family way and all.

Doug   September 4th, 2008 3:24 pm ET

I don't see the wisdom in this choice at all …regardless of whether Palin is a moose hunter or not. Any person who states on TV that she doesn't even know what the Vice President of the US does, as she did just prior to being asked, does not belong in the office. For all her claimed experience, McCain might as well have just asked any mayor of a small town to be his running mate (although my wife pointed out that she does have the attraction of sounding just like the mayor on "SouthPark").

This is one more illustration of the sort of not-well-thought-out decisions that McCain is far too prone to making. "Maverick", maybe …"loose cannon" definitely! One more term with an administration full of hasty impulsive decision makers is the last thing this country needs.

John in Ohio   September 4th, 2008 3:23 pm ET

"First everyone is complaining that no one knows who she is or anything about her, and when they are shown who she is and what she is all about, they don't like that either. "

Say a guy is running for office. I don't know anything about him. I find out that he is a liar and a cheat. Well, I'm not going to vote for him, am I?

There's not wanting to vote for an unknown, and there's not wanting to vote for somebody once you know what they're all about. Palin is out by either standard.

I'm amazed by the lack of any real issues coming out of the Republican Convention. It seems that they don't want to talk about the problems in the United States, lack of jobs, huge deficits, illegal wars, being pushed around by Russia and all of our jobs going overseas with huge trade deficits with China. It's nice to see a woman finally being put forward by the Republicans, but I seem to remember that 24 years ago they tore into the Democrates for having the courage to be the first to present a woman for Vice-President. I want to vote on issues, not beauty contests or personality.

Honestlady   September 4th, 2008 3:23 pm ET

Sarah Palin= Stand up Comedian

I was confused last night… i wasn't sure if i was watching a convention or a stand up comedy show???? Was the purpose of her speech to address peoples problems and explain why McCain should be the next President or was she there strictly for entertainment? Someone please explain.

She did not only insult Obama, but she also insulted his supporters. I knew that the Rebulicans believed that women should not have the 'right to choose'…but i guess they believe that ordinary Americans should not have the right to choose who they support either. Her whole stand up act was just ridiculous. She wasn't someone who i looked at and actually took serious because the whole thing just seemed like a comedy skit.

Guy pennsylvania   September 4th, 2008 3:23 pm ET

Palin struck firsty. She is now fair game. sexism is being raised, however, it was okay that Rep attacked Michelle. Soledad and Campbell, Candy. I am proud of you the way you attack Tucker, Leslie and Prohausher, Elder, McCain Spokes person. They continue to evade your questions. I like the way you stay firm in telling them that not what I asked you. I hope you and the rest of the media continue to do the same. Palin needs to do interviews and handle touch questions and do not allow her to get away with avoidance. Would it be sexism if the male candidates did not treat her in debates the way they do other male candidates. Palin put her family under scrutiny. If you are running for the highest office then you will be thoroughly investigated. Do not hide behind sexism and being a war hero. Her ability to lead on day one reflects on McCains age. I want the media to stop letting Rep use words like they and them raising questions about her family. Is Obama doing it or is there groups out there that supports her and disagrees with her. Do not let them contribute that to Obama. My mother raised 4 kids and worked. It will be hard on her family, if elected to travel the country, him leaving his job, taking care of down syndrome child and taking care of her pregnant teen. The parents are still taking care of her. Her boyfriend parents take care of him. He has no job as well as her to raise the baby. They are in high school, most american family will have to support them. HHer husband will give up his job, she never home, will he work or be a houseman, there exist the possiblitity that he may seek love some place else because he not getting it from his wife. I say this asking mothers who went do this and they think she doen't need to do this at this time. She is under investigation and perhaps may want to hide behind executive order.

Bottom line what ever she chooses to do think it through and don't let other influence you, family comes first.

Will the video share her position on Health care, education policy, the war in Iraq, social security, or other important issues. The only issue she actually said is that she will be an advocate for special needs children. Good, what will she do? Other politicans who have records (Obama has quite a record from IL legislature and also 4 years in the Senate) that we can look at to see their positions. She has NONE! She has a small record on energy policy and ethics, but not enough to build a picture for voters on who she is. She missed an opportunity, because now the media will need to dig to find out her views on important topics.

Sarah Palin was defiantly exciting compared to the previous days of old men boring the audience.

I can imagine a lot of people believing she will be great. She really looks like a BS artist, I can't put my finger on it, but coming from NY, I've seen that style of arrogant, "simple folk" attitude that really is outside of what I can trust. She is cute, and more exciting than McCain however.

Bryan Carter   September 4th, 2008 3:22 pm ET

Sarah Palin could slip and fall in the bath tub, and the GOP would applaud her "incredible and determined struggle for survival." Then go on to blame the media and liberals for making her fall in the first place.

I have never been so confused with double talks but for this time. This young lady,I am told is a marverick? and a champion of abstinence and pro-life? I agree that abstinence is the best method of birth control and all the possible risks involved in sex outside wed lock. We have been telling people this over the years and evangelicals have been the most vocal on this moral issue, but now it seems that teenage pregnancy which ought to be a criminal offence is now an acceptable life style for Republicans and Evangelicals.Should we now tell our teenage daughters to throw away their under garments and hit the road because it is a family affair. i think we are getting it wrong. This is not a family affair,it is a national issue because my tax money is being used to take care of these teen mothers who are contributing nothing to the economy except for empty heads who will become another set of parasites, only 2% of these may turn out to be like Obama, whose mother was 18 years and was leggally married.if you can not train your two kids to grow up responsibly, why should America trust you with this very huge responsibilty of becoming a VP.The bible says that one of the criteria for choosing a leader is that the person must be able to provide leadership in his/her home. You have failed in the home front and you are busy running around the political arena as a way of escape. This is not sexist. You and your lover boy are just busy making babies that lack parental guidance.

Her sarcasm and "I can hang with the boys" attitude may work in the taverns of Alaska, but have no place in politics, especially not straight out of the gate.

Stay on the high road, Obama!

Generation X   September 4th, 2008 3:21 pm ET

Fact Check:
Palin: "The Democratic nominee for president supports plans to raise income taxes … raise payroll taxes … raise investment income taxes … raise the death tax … raise business taxes … and increase the tax burden on the American people by hundreds of billions of dollars. My sister Heather and her husband have just built a service station that's now opened for business – like millions of others who run small businesses. How are they going to be any better off if taxes go up?"

Well, it all depends whose taxes go up, doesn't it? If Heather and her husband make less than $250,000, their taxes will not go up. Most Americans will pay less in taxes under Obama's plan than under McCain's. So they might well be better off.

I wonder how many of those cheering Palin (as well as the other speakers) last night as she ridiculed Obama's lack of experience voted for Bush in 2000 when they had the chance to vote for McCain back then. In 2000 Bush was a one term governor who got that job only because his name was Bush and prior to that the only thing he was good at was getting drunk. It seems inexperience to them is only important when talking about a Democrat.

janice whitley   September 4th, 2008 3:21 pm ET

I did not see one thing that made her capable of being president in case of the need. Also being the mother of a handicapped child, I did not appreciate the fact that they paraded that child in front of the world trying to get sympathy from the voters. They should have gotten a babysitter and kept the child at home. You cannot run the country just because you have a handicapped child. If that had been Obama's child being 17 and having a baby out of wed-lock it would have been the worse thing to ever happen in this country. The republicans need more than I have seen so far to have a good team for president and vice president.

MN4Obama   September 4th, 2008 3:21 pm ET

She came across as smug and arrogant. Any woman that votes for her should be ashamed of themselves! I would love to see a woman in a high ranking position however I don't want her to be the representative. Let's stop focusing on her as a "hockey mom" and actually hear what she stands for. But I guess if you have no plan you have to stoop to namecalling.

She's not trying to get a job at Wallmart people. She's running to be the nations' representative to the WORLD in international affairs. Do you understand what a VP does. I'm not sure most people do.
Think Dick Cheney, George Bush Sr., Al Gore….this woman is not qualified because she's a mom of five and governor of 7,000.

By the way, do all the women supporting her know she is on record wanting to over turn Roe vs. Wade. She doesn't believe a woman has the right to choose for herself. Is that really someone you want representing America in this day and age?

And I STILL question his judgement in choosing someone like Sarah Palin as VP… SHE IS A JOKE! With ALL of the other truly qualified women…..why her?

Moose hunter + mother = expereince as to 1 + 2 = 4

It just doesn't add up. McSame/Palin is a joke!

Obama/Biden… now that adds up.

Yes, we will!

Hey dancing angel, youre an idiot! Obama's political career depends on the teleprompter….He'll completely fold at the debates without it…you dems honestly are blind.

One can never reason with an intelligent design believer, because they are an unintelligent bunch who think evolution never happened! This is what we are getting if they win the presidency and not too long after a country ruled by the bible…

I don't care about the skeletons in her closet or if her personal policies resemble that of the Nazi party…SHE IS SO HOTT.

Her looks are really groovy in a far out kinda way.

All I'm saying is that she could get it. Not the nomination or any victory in November, no, She could get IT.

Quinn - Houston, Texas   September 4th, 2008 3:20 pm ET

Too late for a video tribute.

Everyone already knows that Sarah Palin is a cheapshot taking HACK!

Only the extreme right is cool with her scary social positions.

mathteacher   September 4th, 2008 3:20 pm ET

Ihope everyone checks the facts about whyat Sarah Palin said in her speech. Besides being a mother, a governor a hunter its too bad she cannot add truth teller.
By the way I am a hockey mom and I resent being compared to a pit dog.

JenTN   September 4th, 2008 3:20 pm ET

I've watched both debates, and the striking difference to me is this: Obama speaks and lives as a true gentleman. I'm proud of the fact that he refused to take part in attacking that poor 17 year old child, who is going to give birth to a child! I'm DISGUSTED that apparently the effects of that child's mother, accepting the nomination to run as a VP, were not considered in that mother's quest to further her ambitions. Did Palin not consider what the press would do to her own daughter? And WHO is going to care for that baby, if she is elected as VP? The baby is disabled and has special needs. I have a niece with Downs Syndrome. She requires much more care than a child without disabilities. Is it up to the pregnant 17 year old? Or the four year old? And, God forbid, if something happens to McCain!!! Don't get me wrong…I'm all for a WOMAN being President, Vice President, or anything else she wants to do. But combining these MOST IMPORTANT positions with mothering (or not, in this case), is obscene! I don't believe those children have been, are, or will be, cared for in the way they deserve if McCain – Palin, win the White House. And as for her attacks on Obama last night… Well I doubt if anyone ever calls her a "Lady". She came off like a petulant CHILD!

Felly   September 4th, 2008 3:20 pm ET

Sarah Palin is an angry woman just like Ann Coulter.

No Way, No How, NObama   September 4th, 2008 3:20 pm ET

this woman is evil she supports animal cruelty like dog fight, chasing and killing moose, imagine how she is going to treat the American people is elected V.P she will make Dick cheney look like saint.

Maya   September 4th, 2008 3:19 pm ET

I am grateful to McCain for this pathetic VP choice. I have a lot of respect for Hillary Clinton, and my firend, this is no Hillary Clinton. As a Democratic woman, I am offended to the core that the Repubs think my demographic is so blind that we would accept this poor excuse for a human as a substitute for Hillary.

we are going to fix this country, and it starts now – OBAMA/BIDEN/CLINTON for the next 16 years!!

can you feel the excitement? I can!

Arielle of Glendale, CA   September 4th, 2008 3:19 pm ET

How can they show her with a beautiful moose in the background?! She will probably just kill that moose. It makes me so sad. Hunting (the murder of helpless animals) is not pro-life at all! I think she's an absolute hypocrite!

Ed, Santa Fe NM   September 4th, 2008 3:19 pm ET

yawn… so the barracuda gives a speech but of course has NOTHING to say about the economy or anything relevant at all… just the usual GOP fascist smear and innuendo.

Gretel   September 4th, 2008 3:19 pm ET

People say that McCaine is stupid, old or senile. But let me tell you, this man is no fool. McCaine knew exactly what he needed in a VP nominee that would put him in the White House, and I mean no one was as qualified as Sarah Palin for this position. All the names I heard, Romney, Ridge, Lieberman, Hutchinson, etc..none of them would come close in qualifications to Sarah Palin. She has exactly what it takes to get the Republicans elected in 2008.

You see, there is nothing that captures the media's attention (and heart) so easily as a pretty female who happens to be a mom and who can recite a scripted and heavily rehearsed speech on cue. McCaine had no alternative BUT to select Sarah, because after Obama's speech last week, there was a strong possibility that the GOP convention would get very little attention or viewership.

While the selection of a female as VP nominee has been touted in the media and by some of the public as "progress" and "historic" there is nothing progressive or historic about the motives behind this selection. This is 20 years backwards in my view. In order words, an attractive female with 2 years of experience is better than an average-looking or unattractive female with 4 years of experience. It's sad that some women refuse to see this for what it is, and they accuse the wrong people of being sexist. Seems like the more things "change" the more they stay the same.

Sharon   September 4th, 2008 3:19 pm ET

What a pathetic excuse for a "female" candidate. Her own family is in crisis and the GOP want to put her in the second most important job in the U.S. government. This only confirms what I have thought of Republicans since Watergate, they are pathetic and lack true integrity and any real political substance to lead the nation with.

Build a nursery for the unwed baby somewhere else, and pay for it yourself not at the expense of tax payers. Isn't that what independent conservative thinkers say to liberals, do it yourself and don't ask government to do it for you!!!

Marc PDX   September 4th, 2008 3:19 pm ET

Everything about the republican female VP candidate is irritating to the Left Elite in the extreme. They claim to be the party of tolerance, of understanding and compasion, of minorities, and of women. But they are just a bunch of hypocrites (the Hypocratic party) and there is no love loss for women in anything I'm reading from them up above. Republicans never write things like that about other people!

Dale   September 4th, 2008 3:19 pm ET

When did Palin being the Presidential nominee? It seems the GOP want to brush McCain off to the side because he's not spewing the rhetorics like a good doggy (i.e. pitbull).

Thing is, Palin's 15 minutes is already close to being up. She had a chance to state her case that she would be an effective vice-president last night. Instead, all she did was work as a cheerleader at a pep rally, preaching only to the "chosen few" and driving away those that were hopeful she had something to bring to the campaign.

The GOP is now suffering from flop-sweat. They invested so much energy into getting their "Hilliary II" and she's turning out to be a major bust. Only thing to do is hype her and hope no one notices the emptiness within.

E.C.Coleman   September 4th, 2008 3:19 pm ET

Sarah Palin is absolutely fantastic! Senator McCain could have chosen no other candidate who would be better. Her speech, REGARDLESS OF CNN COMMENTS, was an A++++++++++++++ and she SHOULD have criticized the inexperience and total lack of qualifications of Obama. Governor Palin is a naturally gifted and no frills person of character and intelligence. She will make a superb partner in running this Great Nation with Senator John McCain. The GOP ticket is the Right Ticket for the future of this country.

DON'T FORGET!   September 4th, 2008 3:19 pm ET

PALIN was great. Democrates should have selected Hillary.

HILLARY would have turned back the PALIN STORM! Now PALIN will roll and roll.

J.C.   September 4th, 2008 3:19 pm ET

I am an independent and undecided. I am waiting for more information from Governor Palin and Senator Biden. I can't wait for debates to begin.
There is a big difference between executive and legislative experiences. Sarah Palin has the most executive experience among all P and VP candidates. Although I like Joe Biden, I was hoping Obama to select a governor as his VP to compliment his lack of executive experience, which is very useful for governing the federal government.

DudeMan   September 4th, 2008 3:18 pm ET

When is she going to appear on Playboy? That's all I want to know.

Jatovi, NC   September 4th, 2008 3:18 pm ET

What about the economy? Palin left the town she was a mayor of in debt, will they mention that. I guess they will definitly show how she sold the plane on ebay. I guess ebay is their economic plan.

Rob indetroit   September 4th, 2008 3:18 pm ET

I can't wait until Hillary Clinton slams Palin.

Ralph   September 4th, 2008 3:18 pm ET

I never heard Palin disparage community organizers. She merely compared being a Mayor to being an organizer. How is that a put down? A Mayor has to organize and make decisions. Look for anything in that statement that put down anybody except Obama. It was directed at Obamas' experience.

Obama!!   September 4th, 2008 3:18 pm ET

Bird   September 4th, 2008 3:18 pm ET

I don't know what you guys think this is, we are dealing with an entire country, Sarah might be able to get a perpared speech and repeat what someone else wrote for her but I hope that when she goes against VP Joe Biden she can handle it, and I don't want to hear nothing about he should go easy on her… this is politics, she need to take care of her family,, Hillary Clinton is a powerful lady so what make her think she could be Hillary … Oh please!

Dancing Angel   September 4th, 2008 3:17 pm ET

Okay she can read a teleprompter and gave a speech. Learned that in 9th grade. Wait until she has to speak off the cuff. She will be a regular gaffe machine. Popcorn anyone?

Peter   September 4th, 2008 3:17 pm ET

Is she and the Republican party still against sex education in schools? I bet tshe will still demand that we all believe absinence is the way to go. We are asked to keep this a family private matter while at the same time they have worked diligently over the past eight years to keep sex education out of our schools.

May I suggest the she pay for the hospital bill herself and not make the rest of the Alaska citizens pay for her families anti Republican Party platform antics.

Generation X   September 4th, 2008 3:17 pm ET

Fact Check:
Palin: "To the families of special-needs children all across this country, I have a message: For years, you sought to make America a more welcoming place for your sons and daughters. I pledge to you that if we are elected, you will have a friend and advocate in the White House."

Sarah Palin might have changed her mind on this one recently. However, a comment here notes that Palin actually slashed funding for schools for special needs kids by 62%. Budgets: FY 2007 (pre-Palin), 2008, 2009 (all pdfs).

Rob   September 4th, 2008 3:17 pm ET

If blogs and internet posts really mattered, Ron Paul would be the Republican nominee. Everyone knows all the negative postings are spiked right off the regulars and DailyKos.

Ben - Portland, Or   September 4th, 2008 3:17 pm ET

Well, she's got a good story, but, so far, that's all there is. Pretty face and nice story. It's like a fluff story on the news- human interest stuff. I'd like to hear more from her about some kind of issues. And what correlation is there between the amount of oil Alaska might have to what kind of leader she is? I really hope others can see McCain's choice for the blatant stunt that it is…

It's time for Obama and Biden to do something the last two democratic candidates never did: dig deep, get your feet set, and get ready to fight for the White House. Hillary needs to step up, as do Al Gore and John Kerry. Although most of us agree that the ends do not justify the means, the republicans obviously do not; they'll do anything to win, and they're pulling out the stops. It's time to fight back, and hit them where it hurts- on issues, on plans, and on policy.

Oh good can't wait to watch. I have to give credit to McCain he picked Palin and didn't care what people thought even his own party and she is a tough cookie with brains. Now if only the Dems. would have had the guts to this with Hillary. Obama shot himself in the foot when he compared his campaign management to Palin being a mayor since Obama doesn't manage his campaign they manage him. Palin on the other hand ran a town and now a state big difference in credentials.

Ron   September 4th, 2008 3:17 pm ET

What has (yet) not been said: Pahlin is to be commended for taking on the task of raising a Down Syndrome baby. But why did she CUT spec. ed. funding by nearly 2/3? Not everyone has the support system as does she. Why did she leave her village in debt when becoming governor? Why on her resume' does she include Europe among her travels: according to Irish authorities, this consisted of a layover at the Dublin airport. One could continue, but do we want someone with lack of any experience in constitution law, foreign expertise ("I haven't given Iraq much thought."), the economy, a creationist, anti-abortion for ANY reason, etc. being the heartbeat of a 72-year old, a cancer survivor, away from the presidency. She is no Hillary. One hopes anyone planning on voting for McCain solely on the basis of her gender will think twice.

This is a joke right? McCain and the rest of the Republicans are pulling our leg. They can't be serious about this woman. ALl that came out of her was lies and half truths to decieve the American public. I am a Cnadian and have been following this election very closely as the United States economy affects ours as well. I have to say this. If the American people elect McCain and Palin, then your country is finished, for a very very long time. The whole world is watching this and a lot of people are laughing at John McCain and the Republican Party. This has to be the biggest political blunder in the history of American Politics.

John Mccain/Bush ticket   September 4th, 2008 3:16 pm ET

Bah humbug! None of what we see oin this so called video will distance Mccain from the fact that he is still heavily in favor of continuing Bush's agenda which is exemplified by his voting with Bush 95% of the time in 2007. Quite frankly I think Mccain doesnt have the intelligence to come upp with his own agenda.

Amanda   September 4th, 2008 3:16 pm ET

I am a huge animal lover, not only am I pissed about her stance on global warming, hunting, and bounty of wolves she also is referring herself and other "hockey” moms as pit bulls with lipstick? I OWN a pit bull and I have had enough with negative media stereotypes and demonetization of this breed.

Jack from Freedom USA   September 4th, 2008 3:16 pm ET

I want CNN and all the news agancies to do their job and interview the Governor about her views on domestic and world affairs starting with her expressed view that the war in Iraq is part of Gods plan.

If she is so privy to god's plans, what does he wants us (her and john) to do next?

Since most of us in the lower 48 states can't feed our families hunting moose, what is her plan for getting America out of the depression caused by her party?

How much of her churches teachings will be part of her platform if she were to become president?

I don't care about her children or husband but, I want to know how she will act if she becomes President of the USA!

Annalisa Smith-Lemos   September 4th, 2008 3:16 pm ET

I found the entire speech by Palin as unchristian, unprofessional, lacking any solutions as to what she plans on doing as the next Vice President, which God forbid happens. She calls herself a Christian, but yet she obviously didn't teach these values to her Daughter, and yes what does that have to do with her ability as a Vice President, nothing, but yet they attacked Obama on his values as a Christian. She was distasful in her attacks and, quite frankly, she is a hypocrite in her double standards. I am looking forward to seeing the debate with Joe Biden and Palin, the gloves are off now. The democrates did not exhibit such crude behavior at their convention; what a difference in watching the Republican convention, all they did was attack attack attack, but no substance!

The liberals are running from the fire. They know the best thing they have is the fact that Palin's daughter is pregnant. Woop tee doo. Obama is pathetic and his sham of a campaign will be outed in November. Look at his voting recors, or lack ther of. He is a joke as a canidate and McCain will be the winner. Obama and Biden have no plan other then to tell you to be afraid and the are the savior, although the only plan they have is to raise taxes. NO OBAMA 08

Richard, ME   September 4th, 2008 3:16 pm ET

How can you love America, and hate Americans. That was a cheap shot about Barack's set, but hey they're used to cheap shots.

Barack took the high road, by not dealing with her children and her daughter's pregnancy. She took the low road by attacking his service to his campaign set. Some leader–NOT.

i watched her speak, she is down to earth and has a very good sense of humor. but she spent her entire speech tearing down her opponent with misleading facts. she has told us everything that is wrong with the policies of obama and nothing about her own policies. at times, i thought her tone was condensing and mean.

Congrats to Palin -the new Poster Child for the Right. She certainly mimics the rest of the talking heads in the party. "Dis" everyone who isn't a Registered Republican. No one else is a patriot or stands up for the USA.

Sad that she is already a Rove/Luntz puppet. Frame the 'talk' and control the buzz. Republicans can't seem to discuss anything. They can only 'spin' and 'frame' in an attempt to attract and appease the vitriolic Right. I thought she might actually be an independent woman. She toed the line last night and was in no way an independent thinker.

I'm always amazed that the rhetoric is so hypocritical. "Pro Life and For Capital punishment"; the environment is only good for destroying and providing money (Clean coal? Clear skies? Anwar – a refuge for oil rigs? Drill first – investigate later) She certainly didn't confuse us with the 'facts'.

Where was the 'policy meat' ? all we heard was vitriolic paraphrasing and oxymoron's.

Don't get fooled!   September 4th, 2008 3:15 pm ET

The McCain Camp needs to stop whining. Of course the media is going to vet Palin's background. Obama wasn't whining when he was getting smeared by the right and in some respects, the left in the primaries. He set up a web site explaining all the smears and….are you listening McCain Camp, he did interviews to answer any questions about his background and upbringing. How long can they hide Sarah Palin behind fake speaches and McCain spokesmen?

Michelle   September 4th, 2008 3:15 pm ET

Are the standards for female politicians so low that people would praise this speech? If this had been a man giving the same speech he would have been characterized as mediocre at best.

True sexism is setting lower expectations for women and then being wowed when they meet or slightly exceed these lowered expectations.

This is the way we relate to small children to build up their self-esteem but hardly seems appropriate for a VP candidate.

I'm insulted by this.

Rocking the RNC   September 4th, 2008 3:15 pm ET

I don't know why but looking at this picture I expected to hear HI -Hitler at any moment and I am not that kind of person. Something about the picture is as erie as the thought of Palin being a heartbeat away from the presidency!!

I would just like to say that as an evangelical female christian I would hope I never stoop to the nastiness, hatred and mockery we observed last night. Coming from Palin was especially hard to swallow since she had nothing to do with the campaign until now and didn't even know what a vp did a few weeks ago. Now she is going to belittle Obama who successfully won the nomination and everyone else involved. I can't make any sense out of that and don't think a lot of christians are going to accept such a sharp two-forked tongue as spewing out the truth about much of anything.

Carole   September 4th, 2008 3:14 pm ET

First everyone is complaining that no one knows who she is or anything about her, and when they are shown who she is and what she is all about, they don't like that either.

Cannot have it both ways folks. I sure wish I knew just who the hell Obama was – I get the uneasy feeling that he is hiding his true person. Show me movies of Sarah anyday – the more the better – bring out in the open who she is.

"CNN failed to acknowledge the historic nature of Plain’s nomination.
To all the women at CNN, you should be ashamed working for an organization that doesn’t even acknowledge this Historic event."

Gerraldine Ferraro beat Palin to being historic by about 24 years. Palin is the first female VP put up by the Republicans, but that's something to make the Republicans feel ashamed. Especially since Palin wasn't put up for the sake of the country or for her readiness or qualifications, she was put up to pander to the base.

Rome is burning and the Republicans continue to play their fiddles. When our country is facing unprecedented challenges, the Republicans continue to discuss "family values" and pro-life decisions. Palin's choice as VP is an insult to all educated, informed Americans. It is pandering at its worst. I believed that McCain was a man of honesty and integrity. Not any more.

I'm thinking CNN needs to filter their blog page by emails. Reading through most of the comments, I see alot of similiarities like Mike, or there is Mike from NJ, or Mike from Newark/NJ. It gets repetitious and boring just like the Republicans…but than again this must be news.

Where is my channel changer.

Janyouerry   September 4th, 2008 3:13 pm ET

All of this would make wonderful theater in another time and place in our history. I find it frightening that when we survey the landscape of our economic woes, military entanglements, severe environmental challenges, state of our educational system, etc. we are still exercising a mis-placed prerogative to judge the candidacy of one
who could well be a heart-beat away from this country's salvation by the oh so thin threads of personality, sarcasm, home-town qualities,
oil drilling (as if it will never run out), and willingness to treat the awful
statistics on teen pregnancy as if abstinence is the answer. Folks, please "man-up" (no pun intended) to the reality of where we as a nation stand at this point in our history….put partisanship aside….refrain looking for reasons NOT to vote for a particular candidate….and ask that whatever god you believe in help us choose a leader who will guide us through this unprecedented mess we are in as a country! This is not a pep-rally. This is the real deal.

I am glad I am alone, because I have tears in my eyes as I type this, so everyone out there of color, please acccept my personal apology and let me state that not all of us are so hateful and pathetic and for what it is worth, I too, am afraid that group will release the lions on all of us, and if my skin color saves me but leaves with that rabid group. then will one of you please take me with you.

I love how Dems claim that only the Republicans engage in "fear-mongering"… and they also make the claim that Republicans don't give reasons for McCain other than "not to vote for Obama"….

Funny – isn't it OBAMA who is also doing the fear-mongering by claiming that "McCain will be three more years of Bush"? All you people who call McCain McSame and McBush are eating that fear-mongering by Obama right up when history says otherwise.

Get real, take a look at yourselves. Fear-mongering is a democratic tactic as much if not more so.

The Republicans have said they’re the party of values and morals yet with the nomination of Palin they are legitimatizing teenage pregnancy, overage pregnancy and latch key parenting. She asks for privacy regarding her daughter but who’s the one putting her in the spot light? You can’t expect privacy in a high-profile position. And isn’t privacy what pro-choicers are asking for? It’s no one’s business. And her policies are about as green as the sky.

Dave Richmond,va   September 4th, 2008 3:11 pm ET

Take a look at that backdrop…. She is the worst environmental advocate I think I've ever seen.

She opposed a statewide ballot initiative to prohibit or restrict new mining operations that could affect salmon in the state's streams and rivers.

She sued the Interior Department over its decision to try to protect the polar bear by listing it as a threatned species.

She opposes a windfall profits tax on oil companies, even though most of their profits come from drilling on public land that you and I and every American citizen own.

She faces an immediate conflict of interest in developing national energy policy: her husband is an oil production operator for BP on Alaska's North Slope.

Voting for her is like the right hand of the Bush administration when it comes for environmental disaster.

Didn't she say that she was a pitbull in lipstick? It's interesting that the aging beauty queen would compare herself to a dog that most people think is vicious, vile and should be put down.

Repubs are SO elitist! Only someone like John McCain who wears $500 shoes, has more houses than he can count, and is married to a woman worth over $100 million would look down on Obama's job of community organizing (i.e. finding jobs for union workers who had been laid off from their jobs). Since McCain is filthy rich, he thinks it's funny to make fun of out-of-work blue-collar workers. Elitist to the core!

Why is it OK for Obama to belittle Palin's work and not OK for her to belittle his? Talking about double standards. Do you force your kids to eat only vegetables. If so that should be child cruelty. Children need meat to be healthy. People like you are sad to me . I bet you have never hunted yet you will bash it. Btw hunters are great environmentalists and hunting is good for the environment. Remember that thing called the food chain. What happens if you let any one animal population get to big? thats right it destroys the ecosystem.

I am a Democrat and have a different take on the Sarah Palin. She appeals to parts of the country who share her values. Their right. Everyone needs to calm down. It's not about Palin. It's about McCain and Obama and the direction they each want to take the country in. Both parties have principles and VERY DIFFERENT AGENDAS. Look inside your values and what matters to you and stick to the issues. Let's not fall into the Republican trap of "forgetting about the issues."

I don't know why everyone is getting bent out ot shape. Palin was able to take clean shots last night because she has not been vetted by the public. I am certain that once her extreme right of right-wing radical views are known, everyone will be running for cover.

She gave a good speech, but again she was a clean slate and no one could really question or compare her speech with her historical, recorded views. The Repugs have launched a war against the media, a universally accepted sign of desperation. The media will now vet her.

She will not be the future of the Repug party unless she drastically modifies her view towards the majority middle of the nation.

I give the Repugs an "A" for effort, but they are still going to get slammed in November, they will be in the minority in both houses of congress and will not hold the presidency.

They are truly in the wilderness for the next 8 years.

Enjoy the convention repugs

I thought she presented herself well when first introduced a week ago. My opinion has completely changed. For someone making their first national appearance yesterday she was simply a mindless attack dog. She showed no grace, only sarcasm and mockery. Also after looking at her fanatical positions she's seems to be just another right wing freak who wants to lead this country straight ahead to the 11th century.

you really can tell how much Sarah Palin scares the democrats by the attacks they've unleshed upon her. you really have to admit (all vetting aside) that John McCain knew what he was doing when he picked her. I think Republicans see in her what dems saw in Obama in 2004 and she will be, if not VP this time then President in 4 years if Obama is the next Carter or 8 years if he's not.

Please help me understand   September 4th, 2008 3:07 pm ET

am not being sarcastic; I am not looking for a fight. I am asking seriously.

Where are we to see that Mr. Obama is more qualified than Mrs. Palin to be in the oval office?

When I look at the experience comparison, I see:
Mr. Obama is an educated man, he co-sponsored more than 800 bills, has served as a Senator for Illinois, a state with 12.8 million people.

Ms. Palin: served as Wasilla City Council (8000 people), Wasilla mayor (8000 people), 1 year “Ethics Commissioner of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission”, and governor of a state with 660,000 people

It is for sure Mr. Obama is more qualified to be a teacher / Professor. However isn’t Mrs. Palin’s experience actually running governments and moving upward in each position make her better qualified to run for the office she is?

If I am wrong, please explain this to me.

ex-Republican for Obama   September 4th, 2008 3:07 pm ET

The major thing that Palin accomplised was having a oil pipeline built.. but instead of hiring an American Company keeping American jobs or even creating american jobs… they hire Canada company!!

For one thing, it was reported that she accepted at least $4,500 in campaign contributions in the same fundraising scheme at the center of a public corruption scandal that led to the indictment of Sen. Ted Stevens.

The contributions, made during Palin's failed 2002 bid to become Alaska's lieutenant governor, were not illegal for her to accept. But they show how Palin, a self-proclaimed champion for clean government, has been part of an Alaska political system that is now under the cloud of an ongoing FBI investigation.

Her husband once belonged to a fringe political group in Alaska, with some members supporting secession from the United States.

She has acknowledged smoking marijuana in the past

As Palin campaigned unsuccessfully in 2002 to become lieutenant governor, she received contributions from executives at VECO Corp., a powerful Alaska oil field services company. Company founder Bill Allen has admitted the company steers its donations through a "special bonus program" in which executives received money and the company instructed them to donate it to favored politicians.

Allen pleaded guilty to bribery and corruption charges

In her earlier career as mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, Palin hired a lobbyist to help the tiny town secure at least 14 earmarks, worth $27 million between 2000-2003. McCain has touted Palin as a force in his long battle against earmarks.

Palin opposed the U.S. government's listing of a variety of animals as endangered, including the polar bear and the beluga whale, both of which inhabit areas also rich in oil and natural gas.

Palin Hasn’t Given The War In Iraq Much Thought. Palin told the Alaska Business Monthly, “I’ve been so focused on state government, I haven’t really focused much on the war in Iraq. Palin Has Never Been To Iraq. Palin Believes That The Iraq War Is A Task ‘From God

Palin Denies Man-Made Global Warming

Palin’s Lobbyist Had ‘Close Ties’ To Don Young, Ted Stevens

Palin Left Wasilla $20 Million In Debt.

Palin Instituted A Windfall Profits Tax On Oil Companies. In 2007, Palin raised taxes on oil company profits by $1.5 billion a year, enabling Alaska to double its oil revenue. However, in 2008 she said, “Windfall profits taxes alone prevent additional investment in domestic production.”

Doug R.   September 4th, 2008 3:06 pm ET

The buzz is Bush's speech writers wrote the speech and Palin was a pit bull with lipstick spewing the venom in an attempt to become established. The whole thing seem to be contrived. We'll see what grandpa says this evening. I won't hold my breath…he has never had anything new to offer up for Americans.

creighton   September 4th, 2008 3:06 pm ET

I liked her speech so much, I just wrote Obama a check for an additional $100 on top of my monthly contribution.

Palin sarcastic and shrill, came across as petty and with little substance.

Her views aren't mainstream, they are extreme. The tape of her laughing at the comments made by a talk show host about a political opponent tell me all I need to know about her character.

William   September 4th, 2008 3:06 pm ET

Let's be real, the way a presidency ages a person, Palin has a real possibility of becoming the president if the republicans win. I don't think anyone, male or female, can handle the presidency with all the critical personal responsibility (family) she has. Would you vote her president under her current circumstances?

Jon   September 4th, 2008 3:05 pm ET

Why is "Maverick" so populat within the Republican convention? Doesn't that mean bucking the party principles?

After 8 years of a "cowboy" I'm not sure "Maverick" is a logical choice, I want to know what I'm getting myself into, not another gut feel type of leader.

General Palin   September 4th, 2008 3:05 pm ET

Does she wear a military uniform while she shoots moose or is that photo just to help us feel more secure that she too is ready to bomb Iran – since she hasn't given any thought to Iraq.

Hey, Cindy McCain has demonstrated that she's closer to Russia than anyone – and they haven't attacked across the Bering Strait during the entire time she's been Governor.

Great question Becky. I keep waiting for that to come out. It is truly animal cruelty because wolves have such tight social circles. The ones left behind (injured and dying or just alone) must be totally confused about what happened to their family. Palin might be "pro-life" for her daughter's child, but she's certainly not pro-life for wolves. She didnt' even listen to her constituents who said they didn't want aerial hunting. How does that work when a politician blatantly ignores their constituents?

Allen Friedman   September 4th, 2008 3:05 pm ET

It is interesting to watch how the slick Republican party plays games with the media and the public inorder to make Sarah Palin palateable for the V.P. job. Notice that when Republicans are interviewed that they all say the samething about her and how bad Obama is. It will be a cold day in hell when this woman on the street is knowledgeable enough to be a heartbeat away from the presidency. If she wins, the country looses!!!

Maggie Goodson   September 4th, 2008 3:05 pm ET

Lesser of Two Evils   September 4th, 2008 3:05 pm ET

The sad thing about this country right now is that these two presidential candidates are the best two people in the United States we could come up with to represent us for the next 4 years. Neither candidate gets my overwhelming support, but I must choose one or the other. It is the choice of VP running mate that sways my vote this year. Of all 4, I would choose Palin. Why?

It's simple… she most closely represents what I believe in. I'm not going to waste my time or anyone else's trying to convince others that my views are more "right" than others, but the simple fact is that based on my views, she fits them better than anyone else on the ticket. Who cares if she has "enough experience"? Let's look at the last few VPs we've had to deal with: Cheney, Al Gore (don't make me laugh), Dan Quayle?

Yes, I'd pick Palin… and as such, McCain gets my vote.

karen   September 4th, 2008 3:05 pm ET

Much ado about nothing. She had a speechwriter, and I wish I could remember the name right now, but I've heard it twice in the last 2 days. So she gets an A in Speech 101. I'll wait until her handlers stop protecting her from the media before I form an opinion.

Ian Wilson   September 4th, 2008 3:05 pm ET

I just want to start out saying that Bush is the worst president ever.
That said I feel McCain will be a close second to that title.

Well she's a much better speaker than our current VP – don't really recall hearing him speak.

Great she's a hockey mom – what about health care, gun control, world peace?? She put too much energy into Obama bashing and we can get that from the Jerry Springer show…thanks but no thanks.

OBAMA STILL GETS MY VOTE!!!

The GOP should be called LCD as in least common denominator. What we saw last night was an appeal the rat in all of us. I have never felt so uncomfortable watching a speech given on tv by someone who is a would be world leader. The tone, the facial expressions, the negativity we all way out of line. What I haven't heard anyone accuse Ms. Palin of being last night was presidential. Now we know what the rest of world sees when they peer across the ocean. The fact that an audience of supposed Christians were applauding one person's ruthless attack on another for the sake of demonstrating political prowess was truly disheartening.

Sick of it all   September 4th, 2008 3:05 pm ET

When are we going to hear about issues?! I'm sick of all the grandstanding and b.s. videos and speeches from all four candidates.

What we want and deserve are specifics on how they're going to help get us off foreign oil, get our economy out of the toilet, pay off the monumental debt we now have, etc. etc. etc.

It's time we all DEMAND an end to trivial, meaningless talk from these candidates and the media. Time to focus on the things that impact us.

While we sit around and argue over this petty little stuff, the rest of the world is eating our lunch.

Ito   September 4th, 2008 3:04 pm ET

Obama's "community organizer" record confuses a lot of people who don't really know what that means – it's too academic.

Wasn't Obama a TEACHER in a university for about 7 years? Yes, a TEACHER – not a professor because that will make him too "intellectual."

He taught people and that's a profession that cannot be disputed.

McCain was a soldier. That was how he served his nation and became a hero.

Obama was a teacher. That was how he served his country and became a hero.

In whichever capacity one serves well, that's one's way to serve one's country and if you do it well, you're a hero. It doesn't have to be in the military or we all will just be "nothings" except those in the military.

So Obama quit "community organizer" and be a TEACHER. There are millions of teachers in America that will rally behind one of their own.

She did a lot of trash talking last night, so why is she so afraid to do any interviews this sunday? Everyone else is going to be on a show giving interviews but her. What's up with that?

Bruce   September 4th, 2008 3:04 pm ET

Denver Independant ..i ahev been saying the same thing all along. I am in PA and all i hear from McCain is negative and why I should not vote for Obama, but nothing as to why I should vote for McCain…and now with this Pailn person as his VP…come on…
Time for hope, if the country can get hope back in our lives and rid of the negative thoughts and threats, that we have had for the last 8 years, perhaps the country can get turned around. If McCain/Palin get in office…we are in for 4 years or more of the same negative attacks, and do nothg that we have had for last 8.

GET REAL PEOPLE   September 4th, 2008 3:03 pm ET

You couldn't get a job at McDonalds and
become district manager after
143 days of experience.

You couldn't become chief of surgery after
143 days of experience of
being a surgeon.
You couldn't get a job as a teacher and be
the superintendent after 143
days of experience.
You couldn't join the military and become
a colonel after a 143 days of
experience.
You couldn't get a job as a reporter and
become the nightly news anchor
after 143 days of experience. BUT….

'From the time Barack Obama was sworn in
as a United State Senator, to
the time he announced he was forming a
Presidential exploratory
committee, he logged 143 days of experience in
the Senate.
That's how many days the Senate was
actually in session and working.
After 143 days of work experience, Obama
believed he was ready to be
Commander In Chief, Leader of the Free World,
and fill the shoes of
Abraham Lincoln, FDR, JFK and Ronald Reagan.
143 days?We all have to
start somewhere. The senate is a good start,
but after 143 days, that's
all it is – a start.

AND, strangely, a large sector of the American
public seems to feel
comfortable with this and is campaigning for > him.

We wouldn't accept this in our own line of
work, yet some are OK with
this for the President of the United States of
America?

Come on folks, we are not voting for the next
American Idol.

SERIOUSLY THINK ABOUT THIS PEOPLE IF YOU VOTE FOR OBAMA THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING.
VOTE JOHN AND SARAH TO WE DON'T GET ATTACKED AND BOMBED COME ON PEOPLE SEE THE LIGHT IT IS RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF YOU.

repulsive   September 4th, 2008 3:03 pm ET

I am a democrat and even I am surprised as to McCain's choice for VP. I really don't think most average republicans who are supproting this woman have read her biography very closely. If they had, they should know that she simply isn't qualified to lead this country and a major world super power. Also, I am a woman and I find her ideas utterly repulsive, insulting to one's intelligence, snide, smug and insincere. Sadly, it seems that most people vote based on appearances or how badly they insult someone. Never mind the fact that we've had eight nightmarish years of Bush &Co., never mind that our economy is sagging, never mind that people are losing their jobs and we have millions of people uninsured for health care and never mind the fact that we're in an unpopular war that was poorly planned and poorly executed. Did she mention any of those issues last night? Of course not, because she's part of the problem and I wouldn't go looking for any solutions from her. Furthermore, I can't understand how people think McCain and Palin are actually going to do something for this country when they are clearly in it for the elite and big business. Do we really need to have them at the helm?

I just hope this country isn't as hopeless as I often feel that it is otherwise we're in a lot more trouble and if you think it's bad now, give it four more years with these folks.

Iowa Girl   September 4th, 2008 3:03 pm ET

I'm with you, Alex, only the Republicans could mix a mother and a moose hunter and call that progress of some sort. Is it me, or is the entire Republican Convention been, so far, about militarism, guns and stereotypical rhetoric? Way off the map.

Veteran for Obama!

Danny, OH   September 4th, 2008 3:03 pm ET

Just 3 minutes? And they call this a record.
After readind Scripts, I just can't wait for the debate to start. Has the nerves calling Obama inexperience. GOODNESS GRACIOUS

I Think   September 4th, 2008 3:03 pm ET

Are the holding the whole Palin family captive in their rooms? Let them out – and let's find out who these people really are!!! It is time to have the Palins speak. How about the Sunday shows – how about RIGHT now?!? Who really is this candidate who could easily be our next president? If she really is ready and capable, the American people would like to hear from her.

hey-liberals...   September 4th, 2008 3:03 pm ET

well, well,well….. seems like all you dim-oc-rats are a little sensitive after the total beat-down Mrs Palin administered to your boys last night. I'm sure you're in denial right now, but it will sink in eventually!!!!

Well done, Mrs Palin.

Josie   September 4th, 2008 3:03 pm ET

I loved every minute of her. She is just what the Republican Party and the nation needs to get us back on top. Before Palin I was unsure of McCain but with her at his side They have my vote

Anonymous   September 4th, 2008 3:03 pm ET

Did anyone else notice that the other speakers at the convention (Rudy, Huckabee, etc.) started using "my friends" in their speeches? They never did this before. It's a transparent attempt to cover the old-fashioned style that McCain prefers. Talk about stage production.

What a bunch of tools.

Dal CA   September 4th, 2008 3:03 pm ET

She is a flip flopper. Takes the earmarks and then says no I am against them now. Her town comes to washington every year for earmarks.
Bridge to nowhere she took the money and says she stopped it and is against it. Alaska should have returned that money to the Federal authority.
The biggest problem I have is she is 44 had a kid with down syndrome and her daughter is also pregnant. She believes in abstaining from sex but did not teach her kid that. She is against giving kids sex education in school. Against the right of women to have abortion if they want.
She is a religious right bigot.
All her jabs last night were just fictional works of art.
I hope the people see through her and vote wisely.

Pfft   September 4th, 2008 3:02 pm ET

Some uneducated people think Palin gave a great speech etc..

FYI… She read the script very well… Exactly like she was told to.

PALIN THE PUPPET!

I like Palin but am really ashemed as a woman because she is using the poor little babay so that women like me can fell sorry for her.i have news for Palin ,e are sorry for her little son but please stop using the little angel to gain sympathy from women our eyes are wide opened .You and george bush are the same and shame on you!!

Mikey   September 4th, 2008 3:02 pm ET

Apparently the only service to country they honor is being a mean spirited politician or going to a foreign country and killing people. Volunteering to help Americans is derided by the GOP.

Sandy   September 4th, 2008 3:02 pm ET

Anyone saying anything good about that speach is a republican we don't expect nothing good from that party. They are good for one thing…ATTACK THE DEMS THE WAY THEY ATTACKED THIS STUPID WAR.

Erik on Wall St.   September 4th, 2008 3:02 pm ET

I am disgusted by the fact that she actually takes pleasure in killing animals. Especially some of the beautiful animals that there are in the Alaskan wilderness. She should be ashamed of herself. Sarah Palin – how do you sleep? I was going to vote for McCain, but cannot pull that level with you on the ticket! I hope man, many others feel the same way. I want to vomit.

That's Reality   September 4th, 2008 3:02 pm ET

Hockey Moms for Obama – Did you ever read the verses from the Bible that says, "Accept him whose faith is weak without looking down on him. One man's faith allows him to eat everything, but another man, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables." It's okay.

realistic   September 4th, 2008 3:02 pm ET

CNN you are extraordinarily biased and will join the ranks of Obama come November when he loses and many long time faithfuls to CNN will go else where when trying to search for legitimate unbiased news. Campbell Brown and Mr. Cafferty should lose their jobs and join Obama in community organization in 2009.

DO THE DNA TEST of trig and the bristol's baby.

if they were "morally legit" pregnancies, why would this woman go such length to hide them or mislead the public about them?

I will NEVER vote for a Republican but i watched this angry moose hunter lol and I was disgusted i think my stomach turned. I changed the channel though cause I am not a big fan of honky tonk music. LET ME EXPLAIN TO MRS PALIN WHAT SOME COMMUNITY ORGANIZERS DO: SOME HELP PREGNANT TEENS LIKE YOUR DAUGHTER!!!! CONSERVATIVE AMY @$#$!!!!

except of course, from 94-99, when she attended meetings about alaskan succesion.

oh, and 2002 when she spoke at one of thier events.

other than that, yea, totally country first.

Breck   September 4th, 2008 3:01 pm ET

Cathy, her speech failed to address any important issues, and all over the Internet feedback is negative, looks to me as though the Right is finally melting down, deservedly after what it has done to the nation.

That's Reality   September 4th, 2008 3:01 pm ET

Hocky Moms for Obama – Did you ever read the verses from the Bible that says, "Accept him whose faith is weak without looking down on him. One man's faith allows him to eat everything, but another man, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables." It's okay.

Watch out America – we are already very close to a theocracy government. If the republicans get in for a 3rd term, we'll become a third world country. No matter the hype for or against, people need to use their reasoning for voting and stick with the issues. Moral and religious values are not political.

The McCain Palin War Ticket   September 4th, 2008 3:01 pm ET

3 minutes should summerize her career very well. You can add reading a speech written by pros as another accomplishment.

elle   September 4th, 2008 3:01 pm ET

are they including shots where she hunts wolfs out of a helicopter ?Very fair hunt (NOT)

Right to Life?   September 4th, 2008 3:01 pm ET

I hope they include shooting wolves from airplanes and denying protection to polar bears since global warming may not be a human caused issue.

thomas   September 4th, 2008 3:01 pm ET

Sara Palin was appointed by McCain to be his vice presidential candidate. Barack Obama won a drawn out contentious campaign by being nominated for from a field of 9 qualified candidates. If people are too confused to recognize the difference, this country is in worse trouble than anyone can imagine. Apparently, the McCain camp thinks they are running against the media after luanching numerous verbal attacks and a couple liberal left leaning snipes at their broadcasting nemeses. Their speeches seemed really angry and sarcastic for a party that has been in power for thirty years.

Rose   September 4th, 2008 3:01 pm ET

I hope people realize that Palin is being used to get votes from middle America. She- a self-proclaimed hockey mom-appeals to small towns and small town values. I'm sorry-but I don't want a hockey mom for a VP. Her speech had absolutely nothing substantial in it. A lot of attacks and if you check the facts- a lot of lies. I question her judgment to even accept the VP nomination-how can she believe she is qualified for this position? Can't she see she's being used? McCain met her twice before nominating her-give me a break. Oh but wait-Alaska is close Russia!

Judy in Minesota   September 4th, 2008 3:01 pm ET

Oh puleeeeze! She read a speech. I'll give her points for a good delivery, but she just read a speech written by W's speech writer. Barack wrote his own.

RYAN kr Jr   September 4th, 2008 3:01 pm ET

I already heard enough about her. Biography or no biography won't get my vote. She is under qualify to be vice president period.

andrew s. rostolder   September 4th, 2008 3:01 pm ET

i think sarah made a major fopar when she said niether obama or biden were qualified to be president, as niether one had excutive experience. they were only senators………OOPS………

Ann   September 4th, 2008 3:01 pm ET

@ Gail 80%/20%:

I've noticed the same thing all last night and today – nobody can stand her, but the media has been saying all day how great she was?!?!

Which speech did they watch, because everyone in my house was completely disgusted??

"never been afraid to put her city, state, or country first — regardless of consequences," – even her own children apparently.

Roger   September 4th, 2008 3:01 pm ET

Some Mother! Downs infant, pregnant daughter, and she is taking a promotions. So much for family values. What a hypocrite!

Terry McCormick   September 4th, 2008 3:01 pm ET

The darling of the media, John McCain, now has his Vice President attack the media. The Republican delegates have a typically Pavlovian reaction. I hope they cleaned the convention floor for saliva.

I live in rural Oregon. Across the Mississippi, over the Rockies, beyond the cascades, I can hear a familiar bleat. CNN trembles in the face of a typical right-wing onslaught. BAAAAAA! Good sheep. Stay sheep. Sit sheep.

Didn't CNN learn anything during its coverage of the build-up to the Iraq War? The primitives on the right will never be your friend. Stop pandering; do your job; show some guts.

Terry McCormick

LilRedFox   September 4th, 2008 3:01 pm ET

This woman is a conservationist's nightmare. Many hunters are also conservationists, but not this one. She votes against every possible issue to save wildlife and habitats. She is fighting the listing of the polar bear as endangered and mounted a state-supported opposition to a proposed law to ban aerial hunting of wolves and bears.

Alicia, Dallas, TX   September 4th, 2008 3:01 pm ET

I just love all these comments from the Dems, why is it that Palin is suddenly shrill and Hillary wasn't?? Why can Pelosi be a mother of 5 and speaker of the house?? Why do the Dems only find fault when its convenient for them?? Give me a break!! It's sexism!!

Why does that only apply to Hillary when she complained that the "boys" were ganging up on her!! It's a double standard! Give it a rest!!

Obama has no real record, no major piece of legistration to his record. He's promised the moon and the stars, he just won't say exactly how he plans to pay for all this! Well, I can tell you, it's raising your taxes!

Palin did an excellent job!! Go PALIN!!

Go McCain/Palin '08!!!

MJ   September 4th, 2008 3:00 pm ET

Gail, your problem is CNN. Palin will be a great VP. I had my doubts at first but she has laid that to rest. NOBAMA

Anne   September 4th, 2008 3:00 pm ET

At the gym this morning everyone was a buzz about Governor Palin's speech. People thought she did a great job and were very impressed. I talked to 5 people in just that hour I was there that were changing from Obama to McCain because of Palin and the energy she is bringing to the ticket!!!!!!!!!!

Sarah   September 4th, 2008 3:00 pm ET

Naw…Sarah doesn't shoot moose. She punches in between the ribs, grabs the heart and yanks it out. It's still beating as she raises it above her head. What a frontierswoman.

Webster   September 4th, 2008 3:00 pm ET

You know what really gets me and obviously the repubs are to dense to see it..she comes across this religious zealot..but the last thing a christian would do is lie as many times and she did last nite. Did you ever think of that???? I cant wait…when her and McCain bring the country totally down…as its on the verge now…I will laugh at all you stupid repubs who believed her. The FACT remains…it is still Bush policies and thats the bottom line. Wake up!!!!!! And pleaseeee dont put this woman in the category with Hillary Clinton…I didnt see Chelsea go out and get pregnant…least Hillary knows how to teach the right values to her daughter. And sorry people…but this little Bristol is a partying …bordering on sick individual if you saw the photos of her with her tongue out to her girlfriend.

Barbara   September 4th, 2008 3:00 pm ET

Thank you Sarah Palin, with your help the Republican Party has shown their hand. With all those personal attacks instead of addressing the issues the Republican Party has shown that they don't really stand for change but more of the same. No way, No how, Now Bush, McCain and Palin.

Chris   September 4th, 2008 3:00 pm ET

I hope people aren't fooled by all the narrative fluff– Palin would do her worst to destroy women's reproductive rights and espouses a smug worldview where everything is a mission from (her) God and you either agree with her or you are wrong. That's what we've had for the past 8 years, and where has it gotten us? Her nomination was a cynical ploy by McCain to politically maneuver around Obama's message of change. She's a woman, yes; more importantly, she's another conservative blowhard hell-bent on imposing her "values" on our nation.

Cupper   September 4th, 2008 3:00 pm ET

The revelation that Palin was a member of the secessionist Alaskan Independence party motto – "Alaska First" – sits awkwardly with McCain's campaign slogan, "Country First" and will be controversial in a country whose oath of allegiance includes the phrase "one nation, indivisible". The AIP believes that the 1958 vote which led to the state joining the Union was corrupt and wants a re-run, with the aim of eventual independence. Party officials said yesterday that Palin had attended at least one convention before leaving in 1996 to join the Republicans. The McCain camp yesterday insisted she had been a registered Republican since 1982.

But a video of Palin's address this year to the independence party's convention while Alaska's Republican governor also surfaced yesterday on You Tube. A smiling and gracious Palin wished the delegates a successful meeting, ending with the words "God bless you".

Obama Campaign   September 4th, 2008 3:00 pm ET

We realize that a future McCain-Palin reform-minded, independent-thinking, consensus-building new era of dynamic political leadership would bear no resemblance to the current Bush-Cheney administration.

But business is business.

:-)

Pat   September 4th, 2008 2:59 pm ET

Karl Rove called Biden a Doofus. As I watche dSarah Palin give her speech, the only thought that came to my mind was that the Excell Center was filled with such people! It is time for Americans to wake up and start thinking logically.

Deb n Texas   September 4th, 2008 2:59 pm ET

What Palin didn't say is that she and her husband are not good parents. A 17 year old pregnant daughter is a statement of bad parenting and a lack of communication. Palin said her family is like any other American family – her family is proudly not like mine.

Ben   September 4th, 2008 2:59 pm ET

I wonder if the bio will include that she:

1) Fired Alaska's top cop because he wouldn't fire her ex husband in law

2) Drove the city of Wasila 22 million dollars into debt

3) Wanted Alaska to secede from the Union (real patriotic…)

Three minutes???

I've watched 90 minute profiles on McCain, Obama and Biden.

It's short notice, sure, but is Palin's experience so thin they could only come up with three minutes? Or is there an ongoing effort to keep her a secret?

The Other Campaign Strategist @ 115th & Amsterdam   September 4th, 2008 2:59 pm ET

Will we hear about how she sought to intimidate the local library to remove books that she deemed inappropriate based on her fundamentalist religous beliefs?

Our government was founded on the principle of the separation of Church & State to prevent exactly this type of thing.

You can't swear to uphold and defend the Constituion if you believe otherwise. Does Mrs. Palin renounce her prior actions?

Average American   September 4th, 2008 2:59 pm ET

I'm from Alaska, and you have got to be kidding. Is there something in the republican water supply? Like the signs say, she was a hockey mom. She has been taken on a hunt by her husband. Let's get real, most of her wilderness experiences have been provided by her husband. Her commercial fishing experiences are again provided by her husband. He's a heck of a guy, but let's start putting the credit where it belongs. Sarah Palin has done some good things, but she has flip-flopped on issues. Will I trust my family to John McCain and her? Absolutely not!!! It's time for a change, and I will not trust my family to her or the republicans any longer. Slogans or Alaskan backdrops are not experience, and I trust Joe Biden's experience, and I think Obama is set to change our country's direction.

Siddiquee   September 4th, 2008 2:59 pm ET

Never mind comparing Palin to Hillary, compare her to George W Bush. They both were governors, even though Bush was governor of a more significant state. Both are sweethearts to the ideological extreme right. Both have mediocre educational credentials (yeah, Bush made Harvard, but he barely graduated). They are both pro-war. Both approach office without having ever traveled the world. Both reject scientific basics like evolution and global warming. Both preach tax cuts and responsible spending, while both left the people they worked for in terrible debt (look up Palin's performance as mayor).

Jody from Reno, Nevada   September 4th, 2008 2:58 pm ET

As a lifelong Democrat I can honestly say that for the first time in my voting history, I am truely ashamed of my party.

Howard Dean and the rest of the 'good ol boys' decided a (far) less qualified man is superior to a vastly more qualified and capable woman to be the leader of the free world.

Fine guys.

I can not, I will not, identify myself with the 'groupie, gang-like, anarchist behavior' and mentality of the Obama cult.

Enough talk about the vetting of Palin, how about the vetting of Obama and his ties with the likes of Farrakhan, Ayres, Rezko, Wright, Pflager and other radical extremist?

As a lifelong centrist Democrat and Hillary Clinton supporter I refuse to identify with this radical anarchist-like Democratic party under Dean/Obama/Biden.

Not now, not ever!

She is a strong woman, but she is NOT the best person for the Job. There are many others, who are much more qualified.
She is chosen because she is a woman…THATS IT!
McCain thinks he can sell his game by placing her on the ticket. America is not that stupid…(Or are we?)

Skyview   September 4th, 2008 2:58 pm ET

Other than the fact that she can snawl with a self-rightous, fake grin, Sarah Palin has failed to elucidate on the things or accomplishments that qualify her to be VP….Compared to Obama, a law professor, state legislator and senator, her experience on big issues is absent….So is John McCain's experience on any big issues, so far as his leadership….McCain has a record of 'complaining' when it fits his purpose or ambition, but he has not lead and accomplished positive ends on any such issue….Unless there are some such accomplishments of which we have not been made aware of, and such an omission by the McCain peopl is highly unlikely. Beyound his ancedotes, there is not a whole lot of 'there' to McCain by way of accomplishment..

That's Reality   September 4th, 2008 2:58 pm ET

Gail – Don't get your hopes up; I know from experience CNN only posts 10-20% of my comments which have a conservative view. But thanks for the info; I figured it was about what your survey shows.

Oh…I forgot "mayor" of a town population 7,000. Not to mention parading her 17 year old pregnant daughter and 18 year old future son in law around like trophies.

rowzeer   September 4th, 2008 2:57 pm ET

A complete and total pander to the extreme right….Moderate Republicans I know cringed at her speech. No reasons why she should be VP. Aren't people tired of mediocre people in the highest offices in the land

the real Abby   September 4th, 2008 2:57 pm ET

That’s because Obama’s speech was uplifting, positive and HITORIC . exceeding great expectations. Hers was just another negative GOP poison. We here 3 of those a night…the only reason it was notable is because she didn’t vomit in the middle as all were expecting her to. Exceeding very low expectations.

Finally Happy   September 4th, 2008 2:57 pm ET

I am appalled by Palin. How dare she act that community organizers do nothing. When Washington turned their backs on situations such as Katrina, it was the community organizers that were there for the people.

But okay, lets be real…what do you expect from a Barbie that was born in Idaho (not much diversity there) and then moved to Alaska (even less). It is amazing to me how people in this country still choose to be blind. Comments were made about how the Repubs were always happy to be Americans, well most of you never saw the America that made our grandparents sit in the back of the bus, or not be able to drink out of "white" water fountains, or go into restaurants. There really isn't anything for you to be unhappy about. Well for me, I'm ashamed that my mother could only go to the "black" pool when she was younger, and had to be taught in separate schools.

Let's get real people. No, that's not how American is today (in most parts) but that doesn't mean that the sting has been taken away.

Do I think Obama is a saviour…NO…there is only one Saviour in my book. But do I think Obama will do what he can to help this country…OF COURSE. Yes he wants to raise taxes, but only for those who can afford it, and for those who should have had their taxes raised in the first place. Will he end the war, YES! This is a war that we never should have been in… and for a mother to be happy and proud that her son is going to war is a disgrace. Both of my brothers have been sent to war zones, and I prayed everday for their swift, and safe return…I certainly wasn't happy that they went!

But oh well…Palin showed her true self when she likened herself to a "pit bull". Not only with lipstick, but a pit will eat their young, and she's shown that she could give a crap about her kids. If she did, would she be happy her son enlisted and is going to Iraq, or would she have chosen to place her daughter in the spotlight when she's going through a difficult enough time, or would she be using her baby to gain sympathy because of his disability?
Her actions show that she will stop at nothing. So I have one piece of advise for McCain…if you win the election WATCH YOUR BACK! She will stop at nothing to benefit her personal agenda, and I'm moving to Canada!

Obama Empty Suit   September 4th, 2008 2:57 pm ET

The left is melting down. Governor Palin's speech was awesome and everyone knows it except CNN and most of their bloggers. Sounds like you guys are scared to death! You should be Obama will lose in November and Ms. Palin wil help in this effort!

Mark Dover, Delaware   September 4th, 2008 2:56 pm ET

The Dow is just now reacting to Sarah Palin's speech-DOWN 321

Jim   September 4th, 2008 2:56 pm ET

What kind of mother chooses a career over raising her child with down syndrome and a teenage pregnancy? What kind of father would? I'm not sure if 'Hockey Mom' is the right title for Sarah. How about: 'Abscent Parent'.

Oh boy....   September 4th, 2008 2:56 pm ET

America,
We can continue to let Rove & Company dirty politics persuade us. Enough is enough. Time for a different party in the White House. We've already experienced the Republicans for eight years and they have been brutal.
Obama/Biden 08

Hillary supporter   September 4th, 2008 2:56 pm ET

How scary is this person? It was God's will to go to Iraq? What else is God going to tell this peron to do when she gets in the whitehouse?

Jewel, VA   September 4th, 2008 2:55 pm ET

No video is going to make a compelling case for why John McCain picked this woman, after 15 minutes to be a heartbeat away from the presidency. He may be a fool, but the rest of us are not.

Obama/Biden 08

Connie in FL   September 4th, 2008 2:55 pm ET

Her mouth is full of venom. I can't stomach her video, so NO THANKS!!

lesile   September 4th, 2008 2:55 pm ET

The definition of a maverick:

An unorthodox or independent-minded person; a person who refuses to conform to the views of a particular group or party; an individualist.

Do the Republicans know that they are nominating someone who will dump them and their ideals?

wholander   September 4th, 2008 2:55 pm ET

I was actually trying to get this general comment to Jack Cafferty, so please excuse my use of this venue to be heard:

Per media reports, and Republican surrogates, Gov. Palin has an approval rating of 80% from her constituents in Alaska. This means 536.042 of the 670,053 reported to live there by the U.S .Census Bureau, say she's doing a good job. The U.S. Census Bureau states that Illinois' population is 12,831,970. Sen. Obama's term in Illinois' 13th District (not State, District) according to the washington post.com has a population of 653,647. Question: How does Gov. Palin justify lauding her STATEWIDE approval rating over Sen. Obama's supporters when that population is only 16,406 more than Obama's former DISTRICT population?

Lisa in NC   September 4th, 2008 2:55 pm ET

SICK

Debbie   September 4th, 2008 2:55 pm ET

You forgot one, Sarah is for wolves being shot from the air. Now THAT's a SPORT!

Disgusting!!!

nobama   September 4th, 2008 2:55 pm ET

community organizing is antiAmerican!

McCain 08!!!

Dawn   September 4th, 2008 2:55 pm ET

Come on guys give the RNC and Sarah a break here. What else do they have? This is pretty much their last stand.

Obama/Biden 08

dennis maher   September 4th, 2008 2:55 pm ET

Palin is going to be first woman pres. if not first V.P. !

Chitown Jason   September 4th, 2008 2:55 pm ET

Is Sarah shooting a moose going to help our economy?

Will it help keep America safe?

Will it save the planet?

Will it save Social Security?

Will it solve the immigration problem?

Will it erase the trade deficit with China?

Will it keep Russian aggression at bay?

Will it keep nukes out of Iranian hands?

Will it catch bin Laden?

Mr Lee   September 4th, 2008 2:55 pm ET

The best speech of the week by the best looking woman.

Kristina, Seattle   September 4th, 2008 2:55 pm ET

That poor moose had better run! It's about to get "dressed."

Dennise   September 4th, 2008 2:55 pm ET

Well she has style, but really failed deliver the truth about Obama. Between taxes, about Obama's policies, experience. I'm sorry I definately do not want a 20 month term governor in office. Especially knowing that McCain has had 4 bouts of cancer. Sorry she's too risky. Let alone her values vs her home. Sets a bad tone for my own daughter. There was absolutely no value in sarcastic tone for me and let alone my children. We prefer professionalism and tact. For someone to put a person down for being a community organizer is just wrong. Would she put me down for my first job in fast food? I'm sorry it just shows that she has no regard for someone's value and their walks of life.

LilRedFox   September 4th, 2008 2:54 pm ET

Since when was shooting moose and killing wolves and bears by aerial shooting considered a plus?

Erik on Wall St.   September 4th, 2008 2:54 pm ET

I just realized something very humorous:

Sarah Palin = Sarah Plain

if you simply transpose (or flip-flop) the 2nd and 3rd letters of her last name. How appropriate ;-) I think we're onto something here!

Staghelm-Horde   September 4th, 2008 2:54 pm ET

She called Obama on EVERYTHING that needed to be said, and all Dems can say is "she might not be ready to lead (like Obama is? lol)," or "her daughter is pregnant (we're in the 21st Century right?)"

After last night, there's NO WAY I'm voting Obama. She's a better speaker than he is hands down.

Alex in TX   September 4th, 2008 2:54 pm ET

If you vote for a Presidential candidate solely becuase of the VP selection, you should have your voter registration card revoked.

Since when do people buy tickets to the movies only to watch the previews?

By the way, the McCain campaign needs to be very careful when they say that Barack has no "Executive" experience becuase by definition, Senator McCain has exactly zero Executive experience as well.

Denver Independent   September 4th, 2008 2:54 pm ET

When are we going to start hearing the McCain campaign tell us why McCain should be President and how he stands on the major issues, and stop telling us why we shouldn't vote Obama.

It's getting old. And I suspect that it's only going to get worse.

I am going to vote this time for HOPE and PROSPERITY. Not against the worst candidate.

kendall   September 4th, 2008 2:54 pm ET

How do we know they're not making this stuff up, Moose hunter, she has 5 kids, when did she have time to hunt moose. Sounds like they're lying to make a hard sale. IS 3 months long enough to get to know her?

zydeco D   September 4th, 2008 2:54 pm ET

The real reason is because they only had less than a week to come up with something and they ran out of white out to cover up all the stuff folks don't like. When she gets in she will claim that she was sent by God to pray for war with Russia.

MIKE   September 4th, 2008 2:54 pm ET

OMG. DO YOU THINK AFTER SEEING HER LAST NIGHT
I WOULD EVER VOTE TO ENTRUST OUR GOVERNMENT TO HERE

amy   September 4th, 2008 2:54 pm ET

It is really sad that she had to take the low road and get nasty and speak sarcastically about Obama. I am not saying Democrats aren't equally negative, but it would have been nice for the first woman in history on the ticket to rise above the rest. It would have been refreshing to just hear about her plans for the country. So can anyone say she is any different than the rest in Washington? It is sad to say she isn't acting like she is different.

CM   September 4th, 2008 2:54 pm ET

Waiting for her to stop hiding and come out to be interviewed by the press. Its easy to throw pot shots if you don't have to answer to explain yourself.

The wheels fell off the Straight Talk Express a while ago.

Max   September 4th, 2008 2:53 pm ET

Gag…need I utter more?

Chris   September 4th, 2008 2:53 pm ET

How would the video help define who she is when she apparently made the case last night?

R.I.F.   September 4th, 2008 2:53 pm ET

How about CNN fact cheking her speeh instead of fawning over it. She flat out lied about 60% of the time. Ask her about her support for secial need kinds (slashed that program's budget by 62%) or her record on tyaxes (raised them), the bridge to nowhere(supported it), clainm that Obama hasn't authored any bills (google Obama and bills and you will find out that this is a big lie), and the list goes on.

ChrisD   September 4th, 2008 2:53 pm ET

To Gail
You must be ignorant to the fact that most CNN and their viewing (reading) audience are in the tank for Obambi. Get a clue.

Wendy, NY   September 4th, 2008 2:53 pm ET

Who needs a video, the far right conservatives love her. Too bad she has to appeal to the rest of the country, who can't stand her, the hypocrite.

Patty, Big Bear, CA   September 4th, 2008 2:53 pm ET

I find it interesting that the republicans continues to use the word "Maverick" like thats a good thing…..look it up…..all it means is that they will do what they want, when they want, regardless of what anyone else might think…..haven't we had enough of that?

USAF Staff Sergeant   September 4th, 2008 2:53 pm ET

This should be a short video.

Mr Lee   September 4th, 2008 2:53 pm ET

The best speech since the 2008 political season has started.
All that & good looking too…….

victor,nj   September 4th, 2008 2:53 pm ET

IT IS CLEAR THAT THIS ELECTION HAS BECOME OBAMA VS PALIN. I WANT ANY OF YOU TO HONESTLY BELIEF THAT PALIN POLITICAL KNOWLEDGE IS COPARABLE TO OBAMA'S. I WISH THEY HAVE A DEPART. BARACK WOULD RIP HER INTO SHREDS.

Bob Indianapolis, IN   September 4th, 2008 2:53 pm ET

Herr Rove sez, "Ve haff need for more hype! How can I vin der Josef Goebbels Award mitt out der propaganda? VAt about mine Thousand Year Reich???"

The Clear Thinking Independent Voter   September 4th, 2008 2:52 pm ET

I don't want to hear any further whining, complaining about Palin being treated badly or playing of the sexism card simply because she is questioned or the Democrats hit her upside the head.

Palin is like one of those girls that wants to flirt and tease when it works to her advantage.

Meg   September 4th, 2008 2:52 pm ET

Blah, blah, blah…… All you had to do was watch the smugness on her face to realize that this woman is a devisive automaton, full of bile and vitriol. The words she spoke were written by someone else, but it was certainly easy to see what's behind her eyes – reflections of the lunatic fringe. So spin her biography while ye may. It won't be long before she's found out.

Filipina   September 4th, 2008 2:52 pm ET

Leave those moose alone Sparkie, gosh I cant stand this woman now she is also an animal killer!

J in PA   September 4th, 2008 2:52 pm ET

Doesn't matter what she says or how much she bashes Obama and Biden, she is against the woman's right to choose, and for school prayer. This isn't 1950. This is 2008. We need a president who wants to move forward, not set us (men AND women) back 60 years.

Greg Pottstown, Pa.   September 4th, 2008 2:52 pm ET

I love a women that hunts. It shows that she is in tune with the earth. Hunters are some of the most well practiced conservationists the earth will ever know.

Petey   September 4th, 2008 2:52 pm ET

Man – some really mad Dems. You guys should take some medication.

This is fabulous entertainment

Dennis W - Decatur, GA   September 4th, 2008 2:52 pm ET

A fictional work, clearly.

Breck   September 4th, 2008 2:52 pm ET

Why do I have a feeling they'll leave out ethics scandals, attempted censorship, and hunting by chasing the prey from a helicopter until it collapses THEN shooting it. And why do I also have a feeling that they'll explain that being in Alaska gives you foreign policy experience and they'll blabber on about executive experience which is pointless anyway, the last President with executive experience that was elected was George W Bush.

Palin is Nasty and Divisive   September 4th, 2008 2:52 pm ET

You have got to be kidding me? I noticed that there were very few faces of color in that convention hall. If you took the color out of the picture it could he a convention from the 50's or 60's. Senators Obama and Biden have a broad coalition of supporters, all of America and they are not labeling those who don't agree with them as unpatriotic.

I think there is more to be unearthed with this woman. That could be why McCain brought her out so late in the game. We'll see.

I aslo thinks she needs to apologize to every Community Organizer in the country. The Gulf Region would be in a mess if people hadn't taken the responsibility upon themselves, unlike the Bush Cheney administration, to help people. Many of them will have to help people who are effected again since Katrina. She is pretty cocky and thoughtless.

Becky   September 4th, 2008 2:52 pm ET

Sarah Palin obviously does not believe in Separation of Church & State if she promotes creationism being taught in schools.

Phil   September 4th, 2008 2:51 pm ET

AMERICA SHOULD BE SCARED OF HER….there is no substance behind her except falling in line with the OLD POLITICS of tearing people down.
Do they really think America is dumb enough to realize what and who she really is!!!
There's something about her and her family that I can't put my finger on…??!!!

Beth   September 4th, 2008 2:51 pm ET

Obama missed his chance to have a "dream ticket". Too bad they treated Hillary & women like dirt.

GO SARAH !!!

Rita   September 4th, 2008 2:51 pm ET

That video was so stupid. It lack honesty!!!!

Independent Obama Lover in OH   September 4th, 2008 2:51 pm ET

I wander if it will talk about her lipstick wearing pitbull description of herself. Boy oh boy, had anyone said that… ALL HELL WOULD BREAK LOSE. If the Republicans weren't excited until Palin, then isn't this campaign hers now and not McCain's? Just wandering how the Repubs fix this problem. I hope the moose are scared, I think a lot more people will be hunting in the midwest now.

…and what was the community organizer remark? Since when is helping people get organized and back on their feet a bad thing????

Tom Serio   September 4th, 2008 2:51 pm ET

I think it's sad that the "liberal" media has now bent over to the Republicans. They do theire job and then get beaten down by the Right, and fold. Sad, very sad. Starting to sound like the same thing they did after 9/11 when Bush pressured them. Come up, get some back bone.

And why show us what the Republlicans were too inept to get aired last night. If they can't manage their convention, CNN shouldn't do it for them.

jgzeger   September 4th, 2008 2:51 pm ET

It's becoming readily apparent why John McCain chose Sarah Palin as his running mate. She is energizing his campaign and adding some much needed youth and vitality. Some pundits have said that he was crazy to have chosen her — crazy like a fox!

mark   September 4th, 2008 2:50 pm ET

Who cares it will just be a bunch of lies about her true record.

Changecanbegood   September 4th, 2008 2:50 pm ET

same old…move on to the issues!

Felly   September 4th, 2008 2:50 pm ET

Palin just read a speech wriiten for her with no substance. She is yet untested and will wither away very soon. She is not qualified to be a VP who is a hearthbeat away from the presidency.

Who Cares?   September 4th, 2008 2:50 pm ET

Who cares, she NOT TALKING to the press. Put this pitbull back in her cage and ship her back to the Alaska. She's a phony and a fake and we're going to clean her clock in November.

Republican for Obama   September 4th, 2008 2:50 pm ET

Riiight

Becky   September 4th, 2008 2:50 pm ET

Why no wolves in the background of the picture? Oh, that's right, because Sarah Palin promotes Aerial Wolf Hunting, animal cruelty.

post this – why is there not news coverage, CNN, on her support of Aerial Wolf Hunting???

Open Your 3rd Eye   September 4th, 2008 2:50 pm ET

"Moose Hunter" l.o.l.o.l.o.l.o.l.o.l.

We already knew that   September 4th, 2008 2:49 pm ET

Most Americans don't follow politics like we that blog on CNN and other political sites. That is sad and the reason the country is where it is.

TM in CO   September 4th, 2008 2:49 pm ET

Isn't she the person that wanted Alaska to leave the United States? How American is that?

Michael   September 4th, 2008 2:49 pm ET

BLAH BLAH BLAH.

Hummm interesting during her speach last night, I did not hear one word on the issues that face this nation… The Economy, Education, The Housing Crisis, The War in Iraq!

SSgt   September 4th, 2008 2:49 pm ET

She not only wanted to change Washington, she wanted to change Alaska to an Independent nation.

Confused   September 4th, 2008 2:49 pm ET

I really don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Dave   September 4th, 2008 2:49 pm ET

Alex   September 4th, 2008 2:49 pm ET

Only Republicans can put "Mother and moose hunter" in the same sentence and be proud of it!

Lawrence for barack   September 4th, 2008 2:49 pm ET

lol what a joke!! the republican party doesnt know anything about this lady, last nite she didnt talk about the real issues we facing here in American, it was all jokes

TexasIndependent   September 4th, 2008 2:49 pm ET

CNN should be ashamed. Remember the headline after Obama's speech? Something about an "historic night"? And after Sarah Palin delivered what many would call a superior speech in both content and tone, the headline reads "Palin speech: 'Home run' or 'condescending'?".

CNN's liberal bias is shameful.

eric   September 4th, 2008 2:48 pm ET

Republicans: Saying whatever the hell comes to their minds, regardless of its basis in reality. I think we're overdue for the next revelation to come out about Palin and her shady past and character.

LOL. Good observation Virginia Democrat

MINORITY WOMEN   September 4th, 2008 2:48 pm ET

TIRED OF THIS PHONEY ALREADY.

WE WANT TO HEAR ABOUT THE ISSUES, NOT HER BIO

bridgette   September 4th, 2008 2:48 pm ET

Shouldn't that have been done last nite and why are they not letting do interviews. What does that tell you about her. Let her get interviewed. Let us here for ourselves about her policies and what she believes in. She has delivered to prepared speeches and I would just like to hear her speak.

objective   September 4th, 2008 2:48 pm ET

I thought the USA hit rock bottom by electing George Bush. Sarah Palin as VP would be a new low.

John in Binghamton NY   September 4th, 2008 2:48 pm ET

Are they going to show her shooting the moose in the background and eating it?

The sad part is that people will vote based on this junk. Never mind that the GOP had the last 8 years (6 in congress) to do something, but all they did was damage. Never mind that Palin supports book banning, teaching creationism, and call global warming a myth.

Yeah forget all of that, vote for bc she shoots guns and has some cool call names.

Mel   September 4th, 2008 2:47 pm ET

LOOK AT THE PATRIOT. HATEFULL AND RELIGIOUS. I MEAN SARAH PALIN.

OBAMA…08

ANDY DAAS   September 4th, 2008 2:47 pm ET

Who cares? Big deal.

James   September 4th, 2008 2:47 pm ET

If this part time soccer mom, part time gov., couldn't teach her 17 year old daughter good value's or moral's, then she should have at least told her about birth control pill's or condom's. Here's another example of what's wrong with this country. (children having children.) She can't run her family, how is she going to help run this country???

Rachel   September 4th, 2008 2:47 pm ET

Alaska is ranked 47 out of 50 when it comes to population. If she can't get things in order in Alaska something is seriously wrong with her!

ClintonDem4Cynthia08   September 4th, 2008 2:47 pm ET

Miss Congeniality isn't afraid to administer an old-fashioned beat-down. Annie Oakley brought a gun to a knife fight and made like the Obama-Biden ticket was a moose lazily meandering into her gun sights.

As a PETA member and a life-long vegetarian, I am totally repulsed by Palin's repeated brag of being a moose hunter. What did those moose do to you Sarah Palin??

***** HOCKEY MOMS FOR OBAMA ****************

Charlotte   September 4th, 2008 2:45 pm ET

These blogs are telling. Sarah has hit them where they live. She was attacked relentlessly on her qualifications. She fights back and she is shrill? Suddenly, Hillary is the best qualified woman in America. Suddenly, we Hillary supporters are so smart and well informed? I am amazed at the 'fear of defeat' I detect in the comments. Sarah was as aggressive as any VP has ever been. Obama only compares McCain to another Bush term. When is he going to explain how taxing business is going to help? Companies have fled this country due to taxes. I want to hear how his estate tax will effect me? Increased payroll taxes, how will they effect me? Increased Social Security taxes, how will they effect me? How will all of his give aways be paid for? Experience has taught me that anytime the government gives me something, they end up taking more then they give back.

Gail   September 4th, 2008 2:45 pm ET

Here's some bright news:
I've been doing CNN Comment surveys all last night and this morning re: Palin.

80% against her
20% for her
