Convention to air Palin biography video

CNN

The RNC will air a video Thursday night highlighting Palin's biography.

(CNN) – A video highlighting Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin's biography and record as Alaska's governor is set to air at the party's convention Thursday night, senior McCain aides tell CNN.

The three-minute video was originally slated to air Wednesday night before Palin's speech at the convention but was postponed due to time constraints. McCain aides said the video makes a "compelling" case for why John McCain chose Palin as his running mate.

"Mother, moose hunter, maverick," the video's narrator states. “Mayor, governor, maverick. The original maverick made an astute choice when he asked Governor Palin to join him in his effort to remake Washington.

"Alaska, a far corner of America that accounts for 20 percent of our domestic oil, has produced a remarkable woman who's never been afraid to put her city, state, or country first - regardless of consequences," the narrator continues.

She needs to reserve some of her well written speech for the Debate come October 2. Not because she's a woman means all women will vote for her. I am disappointed in her. she never talked about healthcare.

I am a Hillary supporter and was dearly hoping John McCain would give me some reason to vote for him with his VP pick since I have no desire at all to vote for the inexperienced, unqualified Empty Suit, Obama. Instead McCain gives me a woman whose views on abortion are Taliban-like, who has no environmental conscience, who thinks the war in Iraq is God's plan, and who promotes something so despicable as aerial hunting of wolves. Thanks for nothing, John. You just drove me straight into the Empty Suit's waiting arms.

I do not understand the way women in the states think. Third world countries have had leaders who have been mothers. Just because she has children does not mean that she is not able to do both.

If this was a man nobody would question whether he could rule.

I think we need to come out of the dark ages with are thinking and give women the same consideration that we give men.

sarah palin and the mccain camp asked for complete privacy where it involves children of the candidates. sen. obama himself said so defending palin, after the press started feasting on bristol. what did the palin and mccain camps do? behold, there's bristol and her 18-year old boyfriend smack in the middle of the convention and on the stage after palin's speech! wow, what a compeling hypocrisy, don't you think?

  16. Soldier 4 OBAMA

As a Soldier in the Military, I am more than alittle offended by Palin wearinging a military garg and the idea of the GOP is to tell us she is a CIC (Commander In Chief) when she has no responsibility over the military in her home state more so than the 2 Star Adjutant General there. This who thing is such a farce that only the GOP will have the gaul to do it and they are doing it, however it is such a "blatant" farsce it will be recalled as "NAOTHER MISSION" accomplished banner and it is. Yes Paulin is been billed as the candidate of Change for the GOP, but although it is a change with a Y replacing an X it doesn't change policy and the DEMOCRATS break that barrier 20 years ago, so the GOP is 20 years behind the CHANGE WE SEEK AND DESPERATELY NEED. What does ALASKA have in common with the lower 49? nothing a state with 600K PEOPLE is a county in most states, wake up we don't need a County Commissioner running the nation, this is such a farse. Paulin seem to be the one running for President, but lets not forget John McCain is the head of that ticket and palin is nothing but a grand Illusion scheme.

It doesn't say much for McCain's confidence in his Veep's experience that she wasn't allowed to write (or even offer significant input to) her convention speech. Here's a quote from electoral-vote.com, a well-known election analysis site:

"Her speech was written by former White House speechwriter Matthew Scully but she has been rehearsing it for several days with McCain aides coaching her. Normally, experienced politicians work with speech writers to polish the words, but with such an important speech from someone who has never given a prepared speech to a national audience before, a pro had to write this one."

Here's a Washington Post article about how the speech was actually written before a Veep was selected, but had to be significantly reworked for her:

    http://voices.washingtonpost.com/postpartisan/2008/09/putting_words_in_palins_mouth.html

I know speechwriters are involved with most major political speeches, but as mentioned above, generally the politician gets to either write a draft that is cleaned up by the writers or at least help tailor the final product. Shouldn't someone at the Veep level be capable of working with speechwriters to least offer significant input to a speech? Especially when the speech is introducing the politician and talking about her own background. The fact that she wasn't allowed to doesn't say much for the McCain team's confidence in her, despite their public statements.

In the articles and commentary talking about how this speech signals Palin's ability to make convincing arguments and how it shows she will do well in the debates with Biden, there is no mention that she didn't even write the speech. I'm curious to see how she does when she doesn't have Bush's former speechwriter crafting her words for her.

If she was on the Democratic 2008 ticket with all the negative information that has been revealed about her, the Republicans would be up in arms much more than what we're hearing from the press now. They just don't understand that they can't have it both ways. An example of a reformist govenor would be my govenor, Janet Napolitano of Arizona who can work with a majority Republican legislature to really run a state efficiently, with results that are unreproachable.

    Good Luck Pres

If the Republicans go down the road they went down in 1992 and said, 'Gee, things are actually getting better, this economy is pretty good,' they are going to run into the same kind of hostility and disdain," said Democratic strategist Robert Shrum. "And they’re going to make a bad situation politically even worse."

Now, now, don't be critical of the Republicans – they'll call us all angry liberals.

Good grief! We should all be angry at what eight years of a Bush adminstration and six years of a Republican congress have given us. Every American outside the top 2% of wage earners should be fit to be tied.

Go ahead. Call me an angry liberal. *^*& straight I'm angry – and proud of it. More Americans need to be angry at what W and his cronies have done – and at a man who self-proclaimed his 90% agreement with the Bush polcies.

We should be more than angry about abuse of power, the trampling of the Bill of Rights, and the outright lies told to us for eight years.

Angry Americans unite and throw the bums out! McSame can "recapture" something they've held and abused for eight years!

48 hours preparing a scripted speech...let the pit bull off leash to answer questions on domestic, international, and global issues. McCain would never have chosen a man with this bio to be a heartbeat away from the Presidency. He can go after his poltical "base" and fire them up with mockery (hers) and jokes (his) but how does he plan to govern America? Oh, and I heard one of the commentators ask "What's his "executive experience"?
