I'm a little confused. After all the talk what is Obama FOR? Seems like all he is for is trying to convince the voters that McCain is another Bush. Didn't Bush hide in the National Guard while McCain was over in Viet Nam? Bush had to have the support of many democrats to have anything done these past 2 years. Congress has been in control of the Democrats the last 2 years - WHAT HAVE THEY DONE? People here in the Midwest are dealing with the floods and what have the Democratic controled congress done about it - they decided to take a break. So lets get real peaople. I will be sending in my monies but not to the "One". My money will be going to McCain.
Clinton Supporter for McCain.

I'm still waiting to hear from Obama lips just what change he plans to do for the American people besides taxing us more. So far like his running mate, all we're hearing is a lot of hot air and no specifics.

C'mon CNN, enough with all the posts that always question McCain and Palin. Start asking the tough questions about Obama's very close ties to this American Terrorist and their shared philosphy of teaching their communist ideology in the schools!

Eric,

The Q2 GDP number is grossly overstated due to the impact of the tax rebate checks. In just today:

Monthly chain store sales August are expected to be up only 1.2% in August vs. August 2007. Back to school sales figures are coming in very weak.

ISM employment index fell to 45.4 in August from 47.1 in July. Non farm payrolls are anticipated to show a triple-digit decline.

ISM non-manufacturing index was 50.6 in August vs. 49.5 in July, virtually flat and both pathetic. 50% indicates zero growth in business activity.

Q3 GDP estimates I have seen so far indicate it will come in at under 1%.

The economy has show remarkable resilience this year, but has been tittering on the brink for a while. Energy prices and the problems in real estate continue to create more problems. Things may recover, but anyone who says things are "fundamentally strong" is either trying to allay fears or just plain out-of-touch.

Perhaps you need to do more than just read a book.

Obama is raking in the cash over this now. Watch this come and bite McCain when he can't afford to keep up with Obama's advertising and voter outreach come October.

Go to school... learn a little about the economy... and then realize that raising taxes on business is the WRONG thing to do at this time.

But again... Obama's a tool... so what else is knew.

Does anyone else think it's interesting that all of the sudden, the McCain campaign is all about change? The words "Change" and "Reform" are found in almost every new quote from McCain, whether its about himself or Palin. Fortunately, Obama's been all about change from day one.

What about all of the high-tech jobs that have moved overseas? Philippines, India, China, ect. Are we blaming unions for those jobs leaving the country as well? If corporations can pay an employee $5.00 an hr with no benefits and no rights what-so-ever - many of them will do just that! It does not matter what their tax bracket is - more profit is what they are after.

I am sick of hearing that John McCain is wrong and lying when he states that the fundamentals of the economy are strong. Those who believe that our economy is in shambles should look at the 2008 2nd quarter GDP statistics where we had an annual GDP growth rate of 3.3%, a very steady and good rate. And with the department of labor statistics saying we have an unemployment rate of 5.7%, which is less than it was in the 90’s, how could our economic fundamentals not be strong. I do believe that inflation is a problem, however, but it’s just like that bumper sticker, inflation happens. The real reason many Americans are hurting is we are living outside our means and running up credit debt like never before. There will always be bullish and bearish times. The problems our pocketbooks face today is that we did not save during the good times to weather the bad. McCain’s statement on the fundamentals of our economy being strong is fundamentally correct. Those who do not think so should read an economics book.

I'm getting tired of the word "maverick." McCain is supposedly one and now the word is being used to designate his VP choice. Isn't a maverick a wild horse? Am I missing something? Why would we want a maverick to be our leader? I think I'd prefer a more stolid animal than a wild horse. Heck. My cat would be a better pick than McCain.

The world would have been better if McCain was Prez in 2000 and 2004, but unfortunately, that title and honor was given to someone else.

It's a sad story for MccCain because he has to pick up Bush/Cheney's mess and put on a happy face.

CAPS LOCK IS CRUISE CONTROL FOR COOL!!!

Anyways, what I'm quite curious as to why they chose Michigan of all places. There are at least 2 other places (as of 2 days ago) that are quite a bit more valuble than the 17 "electoral votes" that Michigan provides (those states would be Ohio and Florida, for those that don't want to look it up). Yet they pick a state where Obama has a 5% lead over McCain, not where McCain has only a 1% lead (Florida) or Obama has a 2% lead (Ohio). Then again, those polls only being a sample, you don't really know just which way said states (and all of them, for that matter) are going to go.

The Republican$ are hoping to capitalize on the weak minded individuals who can't think for themselves or see what is really going on in this country today. 1st you have McCain who shows the lack of concern for americans and thinks the same way that Bu$h thinks by supporting every terrorist act that Bu$h has executed. 2nd McCain showed how desperate he was by making Palin his VP pick at the last moment hoping to get more white voters to counter Obama. 3rd this woman who no ones ever heard of, is all of a sudden the best thing to happen to the USA with no resume execept running a town of 8,000 residents. 4th Repug$ show what hipocrites they are calling Obama a celebrity because of the attention he got from the public and the press, but when Palin gets attention they say it's well deserved. 5th Repug$ don't want anyone to expose the Palin family for their dysfunction with a teen pregnancy and forcing the young people to marry in order to justify Palin'$ political career, when you know that if the situation was on the other side the Repug$ would crucify Obama

Same old story. Obama needs to get more creative. We all know that McCain and Bush have been at odds before, but they want you to think that McCain and Bush are buddy. Obama is talking down to Americans by suggesting McCain will be the same as Bush. Anyone with a thinking mind knows things will be different...Obama needs a new message or he needs to get off the world stage.

Palin is being seriously played as McCain's pawn. McCain will make Joe Lieberman his 'unofficial' vice president. Sarah will have the name only - Obviously, who would trust her to handle the economy, healthcare, or foreign relations - I MEAN, GET REAL PEOPLE! Don't be fooled by McCain. He is the most devious person I've ever seen.

Independents, Leaning Democrats, Hillary supporters, and the FAR-Right - Take a HARD LOOK at the McCain-Lieberman-Palin triangle. You know it's going to happen.

The economy was strong until the Democrats took control of the Congress & Senate. Then they turned out the lights and went on vacation at tax payers expense while Americans suffered with High gas prices. We are giving back to them but turning out the lights and not electing any democrat in November

In case you haven't noticed, the dow jones lost over 350 points today. in addition, the unemployment rate increased. once again, what has Bush done that has been great for the economy?

You know, I'm confused.....last night, community service was mocked all over the place. BUT.....isn't a PTO president and organizer the same thing.....why is Obama mocked for his community service, but her resume of PTA and mayoral contributions are different.??? They are BOTH community service organizations. I'm slightly offended that doing anything for the communitees of America is whether it be for cities, schools, or for the less advantage is something to be made fun of and mocked. Let's talk about real jobs, the ecomony, health care and enivornimental issues that are effecting the majority of americans, not the base of each party.

Alaska maverick my a-- She's just McCain with more hair and she's even more conservative than he is. McCain morphs into Bush whenever he speaks. There's an Obama ad on tv right now that shows McCain hugging Bush and looking at him with such love. Everytime I see the ad, I want to throw up!. He will NEVER be able to distance himself from Bush, no matter how hard he tries. And McCain is a maverick? Don't be ridiculous! The poor republicans are running scared right now, and each day brings more insane statements from them. It's really very funny to sit back and watch them self-destruct when they think they have it all won.

Oh ___ I failed to mention that with my son working in a large refinery there happens to be plenty of work for any and all that aoes not mind working. Of course, you have to be "drug" free and one of the wonerful pluses is health insurance. When I travel around our area, I always notice all the "workers needed" signs. Many of our students graduating from high school, are prepared by the Career Centers in our several schools, are ready for the Work Force. There are job postings on the internet and one can apply at each County Work Force office. I love living in SE TX.

I think many of us would feel better if we had the McCain of 2000 back.

A word to those harping on the "present" votes: this serves a political purpose in a legislature. At least look up what it means before you unthinkingly swallow the line that it means Obama ducked a vote.

Similarly, those of you screaming that Palin's selection is as historic as Obama's as a candidate, two words: Geraldine Ferraro. It is *not* as historic, as a woman was on the ticket 20 some years ago. THink, people.
