A Republican delegate holds up a 'Hockey Moms 4 Palin' sign during Gov. Sarah Palin's speech Wednesday.

ST. PAUL, Minnesota (CNN) — Modern day political conventions are choreographed to the minutest detail — but the key to organizers is to make it all look effortless and natural. One of the tools used to do that are the signs delegates hold throughout the evening. Each party decides in advance which signs to show which evening, when to show them during a session, and at what moment they will appear.

The overwhelming majority of the signs were professional ones with "McCain-Palin" on one side and "Prosperity" on the other. In Denver, Democrats displayed a greater variety of signs, with some coinciding with individual speakers, such as Sen. Edward Kennedy.

But there were also far less formal signs that appeared to be hand-painted, including one with the slogan "Hockey Moms 4 Palin." These were not necessarily made by die-hard delegates: convention aides could be seen handing them the same exact one throughout the arena.

Organizers assigned to various sections of the convention floor not only mapped out where different signs should be shown, but when. One worker instructed delegates with signs for Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin: "don't raise them until Sarah talks." Later in the evening a convention whip — one of the party operatives working throughout the convention to help manage the event — was shouting "no video — signs up!" after a video regarding Palin was pulled from the program for time. Delegates are also instructed which way to point a sign.

Signs obviously are not the only part of the action on the floor being orchestrated. There was an order for the order of pre-arranged chants: "Country First, Country First" followed by "John McCain, John McCain" followed by "USA USA USA USA."

After John McCain came on stage with the Palin family and people were cheering a whip could be heard saying "keep going." A more unconventional chant was "Drill Baby Drill" — playing off both McCain and Palin's support for offshore oil drilling.

OMG - What a great speech last night by Sarah! I loved it and hope she can do what she says. We'll see when she is our next Vice President. So much better to have a conservative in the white house than a liberal that wants to dis on the U.S.

Go Get Em Sarah!

The contrast in the tone between these two conventions is profound. Last week was inspiring and unifying with a lot of discussion on how to move this country forward. What I have heard tonight from the GOP was a lot of anger and blame, not to mention stretching the truth. Americans are growing tired of the devisiveness, and want real solutions and progress.

Get a Grip   September 4th, 2008 5:39 pm ET

I just cannot wrap my brain around the fact that this person is such a big hit with the Republicans. She made no statement of really what she stood for. What her accomplishments were or what goals she has for VP. Heck in July she was not even sure what a VP did!!
How can this person possibly lead our country, if God forbid John McCain won the Presidency and died. She won't give interviews to the press because they are "mean" to her….oh come on, she will not give interviews to the press beacuse someone may ask what her qualifications to run the country is…..
She mention the Opponent lack of experience but Obama/Biden have so much more than she does.
I will listen to John McCain tonight but I think my mind is going to be made up to vote for Obama….I do not want Sarah Palin anywhere near the Oval Office. I always try to hear everyone our but geez…this women is horrible.

This election resumes as follows:
Real vs Non-Real
Winning vs losing in Iraq
Attack Terrorist Vs Talk to Them
Economy of Competition vs living from the Government
Energy Independent Vs Depending from Others
Live Vs Dead
Family Vs Who Known’s
Believe Vs Hope

Even if you do not own a firearm always be scared of a government that wants to take guns away from law abiding citizens. This is a tactic used by Hitler, Stalin, and Castro. A governemt that tries to disarm its citizens obviously is afraid of them rising up against the government. barack hussein obama has worked very hard to take guns away from law abiding citizens. What do you call a citizen without a firearm? Victim.

The Republicans have themselves a pit bull … with lipstick. But, there is NOTHING outstanding about someone who appears comfortable in front of a teleprompter and can mouth the words of a speech that has been written for her. She performed no better than most of America’s hard-working PTA Presidents and working mothers do every day. The “very attractive” Sarah Palin is being used by the Republican Party as a marketing device and attack dog … and, frankly, McCain needs the help. She was chosen by the GOP because she is that token working woman – a pro-life mother of five children including a 4-month-old son with special needs and a pregnant 17-year-old daughter. AND, if that’s not enough, she’s a member of the NRA. Who better than Sarah Palin to serve as the poster girl for the right wing conservative base and help McCain get elected? It was a desperate and risky eleventh-hour move by his campaign, and for now, McCain is basking in her light. I doubt it will last. The condescending, sarcastic tone of her speech was ungracious and unbecoming of a newcomer to the scene – man or woman – and, more importantly, she offered up nothing of substance. I’m anxious to see how well she does in a debate about the real issues when there is no script to follow. I am a 50-year-old mother of three and, aside from the fact that we share the same anatomy, Sarah Palin and I have nothing in common. I do not relate to her. In fact, I’m as offended by the McCain campaign’s attempt to pander to women as I am by Palin’s willingness to oblige.

When I looked at all those white haired old coots on the convention floor, realized that the reason Obama has not run away with this thing is simply because we are a country of closet (and not so closet) racists, who would do anything to make sure a black man is not President…at least have the courage to admit your bias instead of hiding behind other lame excuses.

Some women should be ashamed   September 4th, 2008 5:00 pm ET

Some of you women should be ashamed only voting for her because she wears a skirt. She is and you all know it unqualified for this position and just to get a female in the White house you would scrafice you family and other Americans to try and prove she can do the job.

There is no OJT for this position when thousands of our children are dying in an unjust war and people here in America are losing their homes and can barely afford to eat.

Think for yourself and stop being lead.

You complain about your boss not doing his job. You notice he's only working to fatten his pockets with big oil payoffs. He fights all the time with the smaller companies instead of the bigger company that has hurt him the most . Your have not received a raise and you may lose your job because the boss is now outsourcing the jobs. You are about to lose your house and boss has so many houses he can't count them. The company you work for has not turned a profit and has low approval ratings. The boss distributes a company wide memo that reads " I really don't know much about the economy." You have put up with his bullying ways for eight long years. Finally your work contract is ending with your boss. Should I continue working for this creep or should I CHANGE employers?

It's that simple America. It's time for a change and YOU know it.

I can see the RNC convention was on a budget. Majority of everyone had handmade signs for when speakers came up and spoke. During the Democratic convention, each speaker had their own made sign done professionally. What's up with that? Sounds like they are falling on hard times.

The American Presidency is one recognized worldwide, the American President is also termed sometimes as the "leader of the free world", it is a respected position. The President, with the exception of the current one, is often intelligent, well groomed and well spoken. It is a position that demands and commands attention and admiration - I'm sorry the role of "hockey mom", no disrespect intended, really isn't the right demeanor for that office be it the first or second spot.

Jeff in Illinois   September 4th, 2008 4:17 pm ET

"Prosperity" is not a word Republicans should use. My taxes went down slightly under Bush, but my money is worth around 35% less because of their out-of-control spending and lack of fiscal discipline. Anyone who believes that saving $2,000 on taxes while your income is reduced drastically through dollar devaluation is crazy.

Sarah Palin told ministry students at her former church that the United States sent troops to fight in the Iraq war on a "task that is from God."

"Our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God," she said. "That's what we have to make sure that we're praying for, that there is a plan and that plan is God's plan."

This way they don't have to take responsibility and can blame God.

Got to love it! This is your pick?

This is how republicans give speaches: rarely do the facts support their positions or even the off the wall remarks. Her votes, Senior Huchabuck, were 909; Biden recieved 79,754

But there was nothing in her speech and she never told anything truthful about herself just a bunch of info that was totally false - even as the news about her is coming out in buckets. Her response to that was attacking the press..what a joke.

Explain why Levi Johnston shouldn't be arrested as a pedophile.

How can she protect the country if she can't protect her own kids from pedophiles?

This is his second child; the first was with a 13 year old girl. Even by Alaskan standards (which are very loose) that is a bit young.

Sick…. really sick… yea, we want her in the White House. Her and her husband are good evangelicals, and typical of the breed. But lets move on to other issues.

Her husband and daughter: is child #5 really Sarah's? I don' believe so after looking at family photos on the internet. The eldest daughter is the mother for sure, but is the father of that child Sarah's husband? Let's do a little DNA test.

Will she support states that wish to secede from the United States, since her and her husband were both in a party pushing to have Alaska secede from the Union?

Will she legalize pot since she smokes it herself?

Will she change her position and start supporting unwed mothers, particularly teens so they can finish an education through college?

Last night, this woman was pathetic. Nothing to say that was grounded in reality and less to say about solving our problems except continue the same old republican bull that has existed since Reagan and have proven a failure to all but the rich.

What a joke on McCain by his own party.

It was very obvious last night that Palin knew what role was expected of her and she delivered the attack, bull-dog style however, it only goes to show what her campaign is about - no substance just attacks - and I'm sure McCain will come out tonight pulling his POW sympathy card like he always does - People, he is not the only POW survivor - this campaign has used issues they feel the American people as well as the media is too fearful to touch - McCain's POW experience, Palin's pregnant daughter, disabled child and the fact that Palin is a woman - well, what about the issues? we can surely address those and the Republicans do not have any substance on the issues.

Palin should be ashamed of herself. She talks about Obama talking about hunters to people in San Fransico. And she degrades community organizers right there on national television. If it wasn't for the media setting the bar so low. They wouldn't have been in all of her speech last night. Instead they would have dissected every word like they did Obama.

She calls herself a pit bull. Pit bulls are actually nice animals when they are not trained to be attack dogs. Over the last decade or so, many Americans have been bitten and even killed by vicous pit bulls. So, I wouldn't want to compare myself to them. Not all are bad, but it depends on the owner, right?

And…let's not forget that pit bulls can turn on their owner. Hmmm …watch out John McCain. If Palin claims to be such a reformer that goes against the ole boy network. Shouldn't she have gone after her own party. No quams with your own party Palin?!?!

I feel sorry for Palin because she is really a pair of empty panty hose. They wrote her a speech and told her to go out and deliver it. Which she did ok. She is an educated women. Why would we expect anything less. Besides she is a governor. She should be able to speak.

I really wonder if she really feels that way about all the things she was saying about Obama, democrats and community organizers??? If I'm not mistaken, she praised Obama's energy plan. Now she is saying that he doesn't have one.

Wow!! The good ole boy network in effect. She doesn't even have a bark anymore. Ah…I mean voice. See what greed will get you.

As a mother of three of them, I know this for a fact. Their family is a real live version of middle America, complete with issues many of us face, or know people who face them. The Republican Party can portrait her in any way, shape or form. Mrs. Palin is NO Hillary Clinton. I am no feminist, no frontier or trailblazer. I do like to read about what they think, however. Here is a piece that I think people who care about this country should read by Gloria Steinem, a feminist organizer, a trailblazer of women's rights, and a Senator Clinton supporter:

http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/commentary/la-oe-steinem4-2008sep04,0,7915118.story

This is a great introduction of Mrs. Palin from a different perspective. CNN, please post this because it is important for you to give an unbiased view. Thanks.

Chad, Wisco   September 4th, 2008 3:38 pm ET

Someone asked if she wrote the speech. Of course she didnt. Just like McCain wont write his tonight. Oh wait, Obama and Biden didnt write theirs last night. I challenge anyone on here to find a national level politician that has written their own speech that was presented to the nation over the last 50 years, bet you cant do it.

Terry, Dallas Texas   September 4th, 2008 3:38 pm ET

You know it's real easy to get up there and make an attacking speech filled with half truths and outright lies. There was no message of hope or even mention of what they are going to do to fix this country. It was all "this is all the democrats fault! They got us into this mess!" and "they are a bunch of idiots who are beneath us". They fail to mention that the Republicans were the ones who held both the White House and Congress from 2000-2006. A lot of good that did.

sandee in Portland   September 4th, 2008 3:35 pm ET

Any woman that would give up the best job she's ever been offered out of shame over a teenage daughters pregnancy, must be living in the 1950's.No man would do that. Special needs children are not that different from others, with a large and loving family and all the services available to the child if she is vice president, she would be a fool not to take the job.

MimiMac   September 4th, 2008 3:15 pm ET

Too many wooes at the beginning for Mrs Palin. When comparing female candidates for high posts, she has received probably much bigger wooes than Hillary Clinton ever and her speech was surprisingly to the point too.
But there is something about that Palin girl. Lovely family, kids, etc, but I am not convinced she can deliver the results once sh is in that office she's running for.
Of course, there have been lies told in the speeches delivered at the convention last night. Even without checking, just purely from observing, listening and thinking and watching politics for "some" time, years… it is clear that even Mrs "may-be-future" Vice President did say some things that were not really true and even though her speech was , from a certain point, great, her face would be "better off" back in Alaska.
I admire her in a way, but I am scared that too many prospective voters, even those who had not been up for any candidate by now, may have become her supporters after her speech last night. That is my opinion as an observer from outside US and not an American citizen. She has had appealing statements and could use her strengths to her advantage apparently, whether we like it or not. Well, let's wait for the polls, let's wait for the the comparing figures of Americas choice this time and especially now. I am waiting for some figures from surveys with a fear.
It seems that McCain has made a good choice of his running mate, because now he can have not just old people and good fellow republicans on his side but thanks to Mrs may-be-future- VP, he can gain lost votes from Hillary, those who are indecisive till the last moments, young families, young people, first-time voters and not to omit families with kids with some defects, disabled, etc.
I didn't like her comment that she will be an advocate for those whose kids are defected, handicapped, etc. Just because of her child she would be lobbying in this respect? If her child was healthy, would she bring this up? Carefully with such confidence anyway.
John McCain may have strengthen his position but I still do not think he is the right candidate for the office and Mrs Palin? There is something disturbing about her… - that is my view and my fear.

Only someone like John McCain who wears $500 shoes, has more houses than he can count, and is married to a woman worth over $100 million would look down on Obama's job of community organizing (i.e. finding jobs for union workers who had been laid off from their jobs). Since McCain is filthy rich, he thinks it's funny to make fun of out-of-work blue-collar workers. Elitist to the core!

Mike, Iowa   September 4th, 2008 3:15 pm ET

Oh, and this Hockey Mom / Pit Bull thing - don't break your arm patting yourself on the back….

Rebecca   September 4th, 2008 3:15 pm ET

Okay …. so she proved she has the chops to deliver a sarcastic, no substance, scripted speech….still no "real" qualifications for the job…we still haven't heard about her "real" record, her positions on important issues, or the Repub plans to repair the economy, end the war, confront global warming, repair our country's image abroad, etc… If she wants to use her "hockey mom" and "family values" image, then that part of her resume should be fair game!! My God, this woman might be a "heartbeat away" from becoming the leader of our country…..just the thought of that is frightening.

She chose to put those children out there to support her image….we deserve to know if she is everything she and the Repubs portray her to be. So far just a negative politics-as-usual snarky politician in a skirt from what I could see. I couldn't help but noticIe the "Hot Chic" from a Cool State" buttons being worn by the attendees …. and the Repubs have the nerve to call the media "sexist"….just more evidence that the GOP just doesn't get it.

McCain's campaign has successfully changed his narrative… he has flip-flopped on the ideals that gave him the bi-partisan appeal…no more maverick…. just another conservative, right wing, no solutions, negative, do or say what ever is necessary to win politician.

Obama the Silent Terrorist   September 4th, 2008 3:12 pm ET

Who cares whether she wrote the speech or not! She’s an American, McCain is American and their blood is RED, WHITE, and BLUE!

At least she has a “record” of something rather than a First-Term Senator who is trying to make one.

All of you Hillary supporters should wash your mouth out with soap for not sticking together and transferring your vote to Palin.

Someone please tell me what Obama has done for this country lately?

Who is investigating the public document of Obama’s ties to a know terrorist?

Mr. “Blue Lips” Obama cannot deliver!

Gail   September 4th, 2008 3:12 pm ET

Here's something we can do to show the Country and Obama we are behind him 100%.

If you were ever thinking about donating to him, now's the time to do it. Just $5 or $10 can really make a difference.

If you have already donated, consider donating a little bit more.

Let's show these GOP thugs with their lying, cheating, deceiptful ways that

AMERICA WANTS OBAMA!!

His September campaign contributions will BE THRU THE ROOF, and they need iut to get rid of this pitbull and the senile old man.

Donate to Obama today!

why do democrats do this mudsling and then complain when anybody attacks their party. why not ask what she did with the money who benefited by it the people in Alaska seem to think she did right by them and CNN made sure to try and find otherwise. pork barrel spending means throwing money away guess you guys didn't know that

Sarah was torn apart before she even said a word last night, and that is because the Democrats are running scared.Never have I seen so much stuttering and stammering among the Democrats and pundits, I thought maybe it was something contagious that they caught from Obama. After a week of ripping a poor 17 year old girl apart before the whole world, the pundits and media drones have the nerve to call what Sarah said about Obama over the top. Now if Obama wants to talk about speech writers he had better remember the plagerism and the many he has on his staff.

Hillary is my gal   September 4th, 2008 3:10 pm ET

Palin is authentic but Hillary is the real deal, and I'm voting for McCain so Hillary will have another chance in 4 years.

If you have a child who plays hockey, you know that "hockey moms" have more than their fair share of hyper-aggressive types, and as a group they're not the brightest folks on the planet. Once everybody stops blabbing mindlessly about "red meat" speeches, we'll see that the Republicans have embraced an image that dates strangely back to the Cold War era. We're in the Global Information Technology era, and a hockey mom and an old man who's never used email are odd choices to lead us.

Debby   September 4th, 2008 3:09 pm ET

I thought Larry King question was appalling when he asked if Gov. Palin was using her kids as props on stage when the week before Obama had his girls on stage saying hi to their daddy. Even Congresswoman Schutlz and Kiki quipped at this question and took aim at the dark haired bimbo that said yes she is using them as props. CNN your commenting is going downhill with this Presidential race.

1. well lets compare the DNC to the RNC - DNC - flawless - well managed, staged, run! RNC - Mccain's settings painful - fri speech to announce vp pick - so poorly run - his staff running back n forth - silly ra-ra girls who weren't even in sync!
2. dnc - rainbow nation like in my country - all mixed and everyone partying together as one having fun n celebrating togetherness! rnc - lilly-white! with a few token stupid 'blacks' - on their own - being totally ignored by the elitist rednecks - wake up! you finally have a great black candidate n you support a stupid white man who has lied n cheated on his 1st wife -
3. cindy mccain - can't even speak well - dresses n looks like a barbie doll on something- cold n calculated - will def not make a good 1st lady! Michelle Obama - well educated, well spoken, elegant, warm! will make a wonderful 1st lady!

Lisa   September 4th, 2008 3:08 pm ET

The Republicans are very sad indeed. I have witnessed nothing of substance from them since this election has begun. They have the audacity to insult women's intelligence by presenting us with Palin. The tone of the RNC has shown who is truly divisive and why America needs to vote this November. This country will never progress as long as we allow these sort of people to continue to run this country.

The Republicans have a lot work to do to change their image of hypocrisy, incompetence, greed and total lack in being in touch with the will of the country.

Just another bit of show boating, with a speech full of lies…And instead of a lot of Americans checking out the facts, there will be a lot believing everything that was said at face value. Then once in office if it ever gets that far,the truth will come out..DON'T BELIEVE ME….Just look at the last eight years.

Kelby from Houston, TX   September 4th, 2008 3:06 pm ET

Ya wanna know a major detail I noticed on the RNC floor? I'll tell ya. It was a sincere lack of diversity. The Republican Party like s to say that they are a "Big Tent" party. But if you peer inside you will notice that all the people in the tent look alike

Obama Campaign   September 4th, 2008 3:05 pm ET

We realize that a future McCain-Palin reform-minded, independent-thinking, consensus-building new era of dynamic political leadership would bear no resemblance to the current Bush-Cheney administration.

But business is business.

Divisive Republicans?   September 4th, 2008 3:04 pm ET

Senator Obama often states that the Republicans are about dividing the country into red states and blue states, between haves and have nots and any other divisive dichotomy that they can use to gain an upper political hand. Unfortunately, it does not appear that either the media or Obama has noted the new divisive tactic of the Republican/McCain strategy.

Governor Palin, while delivering a very well "read" speech, sole purpose to the Republican/McCain campaign is to divide the country into

1) women vs. men
2) "Hockey" moms vs. Corporate woman.
3) Small town culture vs. Big City culture

Please stop focusing on Hillary vs. Palin, this is not the goal of the McCain campaign. No, not by along shot. The Republicans hope to take the white house simply by dividing the country into two dueling parts that have the upmost disdain for each other.

This is a shameless strategy that should be brought to light for all to see. With all of our faults, we are indeed the United States of America, and we do not need John McCain and Sara Palin lighting the fuse of anger trying to divide the country merely for the pupose of political aspiration. Has anyone stopped to wonder why John McCain has said nothing despite the country being torn in two?

John McCain, if in fact you do beleive in country first, now is the time to step up and silence this growing and divisive argument.

Let's Unify Together   September 4th, 2008 3:04 pm ET

Her speech had no substance about the issues it was just negative attacks the same ones used to give us Mr. Bush. She didn’t talk about what she is going to do for the American people what is her plan for helping people get jobs. It’s hard to listen to this negative talk when people are struggling to pay bills and take care of the basics. You are from a small town with small town values lets here them and how you will use them to help the USA.

Todd   September 4th, 2008 3:03 pm ET

Not only did she initially support the bridge to nowhere, after she cancelled the project, AK got to keep over $200M allocated for the project. And to top it off, she's authorized construction of the approach road for the bridge that she so proudly cancelled.

Bridge to Nowhere - over $200,000,000
Approach Road - over $30,000,000
Lying directly to the American Public - Same ol' Republican

Renaulle, MS   September 4th, 2008 3:03 pm ET

Palin's speech last night was fraught with lies about her own experience and Obama's policies. The New York Times and Yahoo posted articles specifically pointing out her lies. It's disheartening and appalling that the so-called Christian right lies so easily. THis is not the Christ I know. Amazing!

Anita from Arizona   September 4th, 2008 3:00 pm ET

So when Palin critized community oranizers, does that include the ones who helped Katrina victims when the GOP didn't??

She LIED to the Repug base. More of the same. Eight is enough. No way, no how, no McCain/Palin. Don't take my woman's right to choose. The gloves are off now. Don't even compare yourself to Obama. He doesn't have his kids YouTubing "Vote for my mommy". If your using them to campaign, they are fair game, like Michelle Obama is fair game.

John Anthony   September 4th, 2008 3:00 pm ET

That's right, folks. Liberalism is running scared, scared of the truth, scared of the reality that this nation is a conservative nation.

The end of liberalism is clearly on the horizon. Fear is heralding its demise.

But there's no need to fear. There's a cure.

Open your mind to the truth, know the truth, and join the cause for truth. Fear is no way of life. Live the truth.

Clay   September 4th, 2008 2:59 pm ET

The biggest issue in my mind, coming from a life-long republican, is that John McCain is old enough to be at risk of dying from a stroke or heart attack at any moment, and Sarah Palin would become President of the United States.

Uuuuuhh….no.

Count me as another republican voting for Obama.

I cried each night of the Democratic convention and was so proud to be an American! I am ashamed of what the Republicans have been presenting all week. No matter how many flags were flown and how many times they chanted country first, it won't help the soccer moms who had to go find work because their husbands got their salaries reduced. I was also offended at the sexist buttons being worn by all the old men at their convention!! "Hot Chick for VP", etc..etc…

bill   September 4th, 2008 2:58 pm ET

Take Heart, all those who saw and were inspired. The "blogs" here are hardly representative. Part of the campaign strategy is to actually position people to flood stories to stem enthusiasm. It worked with Hillary and now that they can attack Sarah and Obama can claim, non of it is coming from my people.

It warmed my heart to see her love for her family, and her toughness was warrented given the absolutly shameful protrayal of her in the media. The race is on to destroy her. Fight on and follow your heart.

Joe Cheesehead, WI   September 4th, 2008 2:57 pm ET

Mike Huckabee: Palin "got more votes running for mayor of Wasilla, Alaska than Joe Biden got running for president of the United States."

THE FACTS: Palin got 616 votes in the 1996 mayor's election, and got 909 in her 1999 re-election race, for a total of 1,525. Biden dropped out of the race after the Iowa caucuses, but he still got 76,165 votes.

Mitt Romney: "We need change, all right — change from a liberal Washington to a conservative Washington! We have a prescription for every American who wants change in Washington — throw out the big-government liberals, and elect John McCain and Sarah Palin."

THE FACTS: A Back-to-the-Future moment. George W. Bush, a conservative Republican, has been president for nearly eight years. And until last year, Republicans controlled Congress for 12 years. Only since January 2007 have Democrats have been in charge of the House and Senate.

Third try - I'm removing more each time - hopefully CNN isn't so opposed to an honest exchange of ideas. VA Voter mentions equal pay. Do some research before you sound off. I would love to give more details but I'm sick of watching my comments disappear after being posted for about 2 minutes. There was a congressional report last fall on salaries in the senate office. In some people's offices women made much less than men, and were in only subordinate positions. in other offices, women made more and had higher titles. The who's who might surprise your dedicated little democratic souls.

CNN, come on, this is getting old.

BJones   September 4th, 2008 2:56 pm ET

What's the difference between Palin and a pit bull? The pit bull would make a better Vice President.

Lynda, Overland Park, KS   September 4th, 2008 2:56 pm ET

I am so tired of the Hockey Mom's for Palin signs. Obama is a Soccer dad, I loved the video footage of him at his daughters soccer game. Does the media remember that? Why does the media persist in trying to make the Americans choose a president based on, "who I want to have a beer with"? That's what brought us Bush twice. And by the way, I didn't hear a word about the sexist button warn on the RNC convention floor that read "Hoosiers for the Hot Chick"!

The Republicans are not fooling anybody with their sudden fake support of feminism.

Bob Indianapolis, IN   September 4th, 2008 2:56 pm ET

LOOKS LIKE WALL STREET LOVED THAT SPEECH TOO!

Paris   September 4th, 2008 2:56 pm ET

Wow! Democrats are truly an angry bunch.

Palin was outstanding and there is nothing you can do about it.
How ever you like to spin it and bad mouth her she was good and
has more leadership ability in one finger than Obama has in his entire being.
At the end of the day it is not Palin who has been friends with enemy’s of this country and she is not the one that wants to take America to Socialism.
You are so concern about lies, then where were you to ask Obama why he lied about the nature of his friendship with William Ayers.
Where were you when Obama lied that he didn’t know the about reverend Wright.

I don’t need a radical in the white house. We need someone that love this country more than life itself and that is John McCain.
This is a fact that you Democrats can’t touch.

Yolanda   September 4th, 2008 2:56 pm ET

Elisabeth (the young lady locked in the cellar in Austria by her father and was raped, and gave birth to 7 children by him) will be telling her story to Oprah soon. I sure hope Palin and Mccain view her story then tell America you have no tolerance for abortion even in the case of rape and incest

TexasIndependent   September 4th, 2008 2:56 pm ET

Everyone who is voting for Obama for "change" should stop to think for a minute. He preaches that we must "put an end to the same old Washington games". So for his DNC speech, he slung mud at McCain by mentioning him 26 times. And after promising to use public campaign funding, he broke his promise and is using donations.

If this is the "change" Obama has planned, then I don't want any part of it.

I'm still undecided, but the convention has steered me towards the Republicans.

Anna   September 4th, 2008 2:55 pm ET

GRAND OLD PARTY IS JUST LIKE THAT! They are hypocrits and it's a same. They're supposed to hold the highest moral standards but unfortunately they just ruined their reputation.

Almost all their speakers except MITT were all divorced from their first wives. Palin's background is questionable also.

DWI   September 4th, 2008 2:55 pm ET

You missed the sign from the convention last night that was spelled "Ameirica." I'm not making this up.

Joe Regis   September 4th, 2008 2:54 pm ET

Last night was a lost opportunity. The repubs need to make clear to the people that they are Bush republicans and they are McCain republicans, and that McCain republicans is not an extension of the Bush failed policies of the last 8 years that brought about foreclosure, job losses, and bad econnomic time.

The difference in idealogy between Bush republicans and McCain republicans needs to be spelled out in a convincing way for it to work.

McCain needs to renew the party other wise it is a slow march to oblivion. It will be something like "no way, nohow, noMcCain".

All well and good with the Sarah Palin speech but we'll see. Say, during the presentation, the camera swung around and focused on a woman, flashing a peace sign with her fingers, being vigorously escorted out of the venue. Is this a detail overlooked? Thanks for the great, insightful coverage. How about a Dobbs/Cafferty, Cafferty/Dobbs ticket someday?

Anne   September 4th, 2008 2:51 pm ET

Dang. CNN blocked me. Heaven forbid the facts are shown here. I had been replying to VA voter who, in his or her wonderful state of ignorance, went on about equal pay. Since I can't post it here - if you'll take the blinders off for a second, google "Obama femal staffers make less than McCain female staffers" and see what comes up. There was a congressional report on salaries in the senate offices last fall… talking the talk doesn't equal walking the walk.

Phil   September 4th, 2008 2:51 pm ET

I love it. Palin is making the dems restless and agitated. The dems always have the same defense for everyting (i.e. 4 more year of Bush, or she's inexperienced, etc.). She is a strong woman and she will bolster McCain's campaign. Let your liberal media spin that.

Linda K.   September 4th, 2008 2:51 pm ET

I am pro-life but I would never vote for McCain/Palin.

The pro-life movement centers on the child before birth. What about after? Does he have access to good health care? Will she get a good education? Will they be expected to fight in another unnecessary war when they are of age?

For Republicans, pro-life ends at birth. Obama plans to reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies and also offer our children health care, education, and a safe future.

Which party is really pro-life?

BG   September 4th, 2008 2:50 pm ET

MommaSchell   September 4th, 2008 2:50 pm ET

Hmmm…that debate with between Backwoods Barbie and VP candidate Joe Biden should be hysterical. Let's see, a cagematch between an intelligent, long time member of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee and 35 year member of Congress, vs. the moose-burger eating, evangelical wanna-be "Hockey Mom" of 5 whose foreign affairs experience pretty much is summed up living in a state next to Canada and across the channel from Russia. But hey, she's an expert now in foreign affairs as she just got a crash course from the NeoCons according to their perspective and believes that our soldiers are on a mission from God in Iraq.

But alas….there was one detail overlooked on the convention floor, no people of color or race….seems all the minorities are part of the ANGRY LEFT that bush spoke of…….

Also seems that the GOP likes to pander to women. What I and so many others want to know is this….when Biden starts hitting her hard is she going to tear up..cry foul and will the GOP use the "get out of jail free female card"?

The main problem Democrats always have is - the Republicans have a significant amount of followers that support WHATEVER the party says, as long as you give them hate-laden slogans like "We against them", "they support abortion", "they support gay rights", "they are elitist" and so on.
They would vote for the Republicans anyway, even if McCain would say tonight "Human life begins at the moment of conception, and I am going to run this country into ruin".
Every election I get upset about this fact. But I have no solution, because I know this block of the religious people will never change whatsoever.

Also –Just for your info—It's those small buisnesses that he will tax that provide jobs to guys like you—But you don't have to worry—They will cut those back too and you won't have a job then either—
How stupid can you be–

If this part time soccer mom, part time gov., couldn't teach her daughter good value's or moral's, then she should have at least told her about birth control pill's or condom's. Here's another example of what's wrong with this country. (children having children.) She can't run her family, how is she going to help run this country???

John McCain does not have the temperment to lead:

"I have witnessed incidents where he has used profanity at colleagues and exploded at colleagues," said former Senator Bob Smith, a New Hampshire Republican who served with McCain on the Senate Armed Services Committee and on Republican policy committees. "He would disagree about something and then explode. It was incidents of irrational behavior. We've all had incidents where we have gotten angry, but I've never seen anyone act like that."

PALIN: "The Democratic nominee for president supports plans to raise income taxes, raise payroll taxes, raise investment income taxes, raise the death tax, raise business taxes, and increase the tax burden on the American people by hundreds of billions of dollars."

THE FACTS: The Tax Policy Center, a think tank run jointly by the Brookings Institution and the Urban Institute, concluded that Obama's plan would increase after-tax income for middle-income taxpayers by about 5 percent by 2012, or nearly $2,200 annually. McCain's plan, which cuts taxes across all income levels, would raise after tax-income for middle-income taxpayers by 3 percent, the center concluded.

Obama would provide $80 billion in tax breaks, mainly for poor workers and the elderly, including tripling the Earned Income Tax Credit for minimum-wage workers and higher credits for larger families.

He also would raise income taxes, capital gains and dividend taxes on the wealthiest. He would raise payroll taxes on taxpayers with incomes above $250,000, and he would raise corporate taxes. Small businesses that make more than $250,000 a year would see taxes rise.

Look…John McCain was a POW and no doubt an American Hero for all he did and endured during those trying times. That, however, is where the train stops.

As far as politics go, John McCain should really have a seat and let the new politics of Progress, Hope, and Change be ushered in to help reshape our country into a place that other nations try to emulate instead of steal from. We've seen record numbers of foreign buyers attempt to purchase everything in this nation from jobs to our rails and highways! Do not let the Republicans continue to get rich while the nation's image and the nation's average Americans continue to suffer.

Vote Obama/Biden and usher in a new American Era of TRUE propserity and the American Dream for EVERYONE!

These blogs are telling. Sarah has hit them where they live. She was attacked relentlessly on her qualifications. She fights back and she is shrill? Suddenly, Hillary is the best qualified woman in America. Suddenly, we Hillary supporters are so smart and well informed? I am amazed at the 'fear of defeat' I detect in the comments. Sarah was as aggressive as any VP has ever been. Obama only compares McCain to another Bush term. When is he going to explain how taxing business is going to help? Companies have fled this country due to taxes. I want to hear how his estate tax will effect me? Increased payroll taxes, how will they effect me? Increased Social Security taxes, how will they effect me? How will all of his give aways be paid for? Experience has taught me that anytime the government gives me something, they end up taking more then they give back.

How come CNN won't comment on all the sexist buttons and posters that many of them held up in regards to Palin, calling her a hot momma, etc. Where are those pictures CNN???? Also I'm tired of this experience argument. Where is Palin's Constitutional Law experience??? She has NONE, but Obama is a Constitutional Law scholar. How is she going to be able to protect and uphold the Constitution of the United States? She has no experience in that whatsoever.

So why did you not say that the Democratic Convention was just as "choreographed"? It's funny how this point, and the point that Sarah Palin's speach was writen for her are even brought up! Did CNN just discover that Candidates have speach writers? Did CNN just discover that Conventions are choreographed? Or is it just that you in your Fair and Balanced news coverage chose to report on this to Favor Obama, and make McCain sound like he is the only Canidate, and party to do shuch a thing?
And yes, Obama does pay good money to a speach writer as well, and the Democratic convention was well choreographed too. All the way as to who sits where, and what and when signs are raised!

Once again, CNN shows just how UN-fair and UN-balanced they are as NEWS REPORTERS! CNN should be called "THE 24 HOUR OPPINION NETWORK"!

Canadian POV..

I hear you. it was disgusting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That offends me as a women- but I have a feeling Ms. Palin LOVES it. She strikes me as the type that will bat her eyes and flirt to get what she wants!!!

Inquiring Mind   September 4th, 2008 2:40 pm ET

The Democrats seemed more genuine during there convention they had real everyday people in attendance it included people from all walks of life, celebrities to cause they are regular people also but this GOP convention, is the complete opposite every move looks choreographed, product placement with Trig, Palins daughter and boyfriend continually on camera holding hands, and when a speaker made a joke or statement that flopped (Giuliani) there must have been a applause sign that lit up.

The GOP must think they can stage a movement but Obama and the democrats understand that a movement is something that is felt

CNN do your job and call Palin on her lies:

She cut special needs spending for kids by 60% and now she is saying that she supports it????

She says she was against the bridge to nowhere, but she is on video saying she is for it????

She banded from the library and fired the librarian when they refused.

she tried to get her brother in law fired and then fired his boss when he refused.

She wants to teach creationism in public schools.

She says global warming is a myth.

She supported pat buchanan and lobbied for the corrupt Ted Stevens.

Yeah she scares me. I am worried that media will be bullied into not doing its job by GOP just like they were with Iraq.

Rightwingers keep saying they don't want a Prez needing "on the job training" … yet, their VP candidate, who could be Prez., is so unprepared that:

1. Rightwingers refuse to allow her to be interviewed by the press.

2. Rightwingers LIE about Todd Palin belonging to the Anti-American group, AIP.

3. Rightwingers have George Bush's speech writers writer he speeches.

4. Rightwingers say, "she's a quick learner" … so much for them NOT wanting a Prez or VP who needs on the job training.

5. Palin is what you call "on the job CANDIDATE TRAINING."

All the details are covered except vetting the VP nominee.
A McCain spokesperson stated "This campaign is not about the issues". That's because, after all his responsiblity rhetoric, McCa
