The Obama campaign is pulling in cash following Palin's speech.

(CNN) – Barack Obama's campaign says it has raised more than $8 million from over 130,000 donors following Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin's speech Wednesday night.

The campaign also says it is on track to raise $10 million before John McCain takes the podium at the Republican National Convention tonight.

I think its funny that republicans are casting now casting their candidate…oops vice-candidate into the messiah role. Please chew on this:
—Palin has raised taxes many times and took her beautiful little Alaskan town from a balanced budget to 22 million in debt. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0808/12987.html
—She didn’t build the bridge to nowhere but she sure took its money, and asked for more. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2008154532_webpalin02m.html
—She actually implemented a windfall profit tax exactly as senator Obama suggested a couple months ago… and look how the reds chastised him for it. http://thinkprogress.org/wonkroom/2008/08/30/palin-raised-taxes-on-oil-company-profits-to-give-citizens-an-equitable-share-will-mccain/
–Yes her family is off limits, and it appears she wants to put all family off limits by cutting funds for, ironically, teen moms http://rawstory.com/news/2008/Palin_cut_1.1_million_from_funding_0902.html

PS: Some use change to further a career. Some use a career to further change. Great Line.

Too bad she didn't write it. The speech was written by a former Bush speech writer. In fact it was written before she was even selected as the VP nominee. So much for not the same old Washington. But, as you proved, you can fool some of the people all of the time

Tara   September 4th, 2008 6:03 pm ET

The appointment of Supreme Court justices over the next four years possibly by McCain as well as McCain's and possibly Palin's finger on the nuclear trigger frightens me. Kellie   September 4th, 2008 6:02 pm ET

This is why he will be the next President of the United States:

"They're talking about the three years of work that I did right out of college, as if I'm making the leap from two or three years out of college into the presidency. I would argue that doing work in the community, to try to create jobs, to bring people together, to rejuvenate communities that have fallen on hard times, to set up job training programs in areas that have been hard hit when the steel plants closed, that that's relevant only in understanding where I'm coming from. Who I believe in. Who I'm fighting for. And why I'm in this race. And the question I have for them is, why would that kind of work be ridiculous? Who are they fighting for? What are they advocating for? They think the lives of those folks who are struggling each and every day, that working with them to try to improve their lives, is somehow not relevant to the presidency? Maybe that's the problem."

Dem from VA   September 4th, 2008 6:02 pm ET

It will be truly entertaining when Palin crashes-and-burns in about three weeks, once the real journalists come out of the woodwork and start vetting her qualifications: That's when the REAL Palin bio will come to light. TrooperGate; her vocal support of the Bridge-to-Nowhere; paying Washington lobbyists to secure earmarks for Wasilla (she's apparently as fond of pork as she is of moose meat); delaring the War in Iraq a Holy War for Christianity and "God's will"; raising taxes and public debt (where once there was none) on the 6,000 residents of Wasilla; and leaving a trail of bodies in the wake of her insatiable ambition: Even the starry eyed GOP delegates will realize that McSame made a fatal blunder in choosing Sarah Palin as her running mate. I relish the thought of Obama/Biden t.v. ads featuring Rudy, Mitt, Mike, and McShame clips from their Convention, praising Palin's credentials, after she's been thoroughly discredited and forced to withdraw from the McStain ticket. BTW, pitt bulls everywhere should be offended by her comparison.

ross berg   September 4th, 2008 6:01 pm ET

As a lifelong republican I must say that McCains pick for the VP spot has certainly killed any small chance he might have had of winning.

And it turns out that the facts show that in a numberr of meetings in 2006-2007 Palin is heard thanking different State and Federal legislators for getting different ear-marks for Alaska AND the facts are that the "bridge to nowhere" funds were NOT returned to Washington but spent on other projects in Alaska.

Too bad that as it turns out she's just another typical pol!! Shame!!

John from Illinois   September 4th, 2008 6:01 pm ET

I'm Republican. I'm White. And to Barack Obama, goes the checks I write! GoBama! The Bush presidency ends now. Enough! Palin was lame attempt to pull in the Hillary holdouts. Doesn't matter. Come Nov. 4th, Barack Obama will be our next President. Power to the people baby!

Rick K   September 4th, 2008 6:00 pm ET

Obama has given people a way to fight back against this pettiness and fear mongering.

Donating is just part of the equation.

I've never seen people paying so much attention - organizing, debating, sharing, canvasing, registering. The repubs had a chance this week to explain their vision for the nation we share.

Their answer so far is motivating all right. We now have a new angry, mediocre, dismissive, insulting face plugged into the Rove machine.

Sad thing is, I don't see the same thing when I see Jindal and Pawlenty speaking. Perhaps it will be left to them to reinvent the republican brand - but this country really needs to send a message to this current group of hate-mongers.

I was very disappointed in Giuliani's ignorant speech. Especially coming from a pro-choice, anti-gun, very moderate Republican. He should know better.

The only speech I liked was Huckabee - and I've always thought he was a gracious person. He's just so likeable. (common sense would've told the Republicans to choose him… )

So, you guys are proud that in a time where you can barely fill your tank and feed your family, and are lucky if youre not losing your house, that youre throwing your money away on greedy, lying, arrogant, just-a-nother politicians? They have millions and millions and millions of dollars! Stop being puppets please. Obama is no better than any other slimey political suit thats ever crawled the streets of Washington. Donating your petty $50? For what? Another ad from Obama that promises upon his election the world will be all marshmallows and rainbows? Here's a suggestion, live within your means and learn that desire is the root of all unhappiness and unrest. Go Buddhists!

Corey Gabriel   September 4th, 2008 5:58 pm ET

I respect Palin for where she is at in her career and I listened to her speech as I felt it was my duty to give her a chance.

She's an okay speaker, although there was no substance in her speech.

Totally recommend she keep her "day" job and/or look for other career options. Maybe the door is open for her to go back to TV?

How can any intelligent Hillary support vote for Palin? If I were Hillary, I would be offended by the idea that Palin is her equal. If she and McCain win this election she better be her equal or the country is doomed.

Ladies, consider this. Palin and McCain get into power. It is an abysmal failure. It will set woman power back decades. It happened in Canada when they elected Kim Campbell. And believe me Palin is no Angela Merkel!!!

Come to your senses and vote for the party and people who can change what is going on in this country.
Obama/Biden in 08

jack   September 4th, 2008 5:57 pm ET

Let's face it most white (and some non-white) Republicans and Democrats against Obama have two fears…that if Obama is President he will 1). enslave the whites in this country as were done by whites to blacks and 2.) appropriate the women. The vanquished becoming the victors syndrome. That's the real fear of racists. This means giving up all the goodies of being 'entitled' as awhite person. The time worn U.S. mantra that the most unqualified, base, uneducated, ignorant, white person is far better than the most qualified person non-white. That's a hard habit to break. It's in the DNA of this country and easily transferred to everyone as long as they're not black.

zelda gross   September 4th, 2008 5:57 pm ET

Obama never said a word about her, until she started trashing him. He's been very gratious towards her. But I guess another lie doesn't matter. Think about it PUMA, vote Palin in now and give her that extra edge she needs to beat Hillary in 2012, real smart strategy there.

I'm not surprised. Once again the RNC offers up one divisive 'Us vs. Them' speech after another while they whip their attendess into a hate-filled frenzy. When they started the "Drill Baby Drill" chant last night I felt like I was looking in on some kind of a fanatical cult.

They somehow seem to forget that the 'them' they criticize so vehemently make up more that half of the electorate.

They talk a big talk but they don't really say much but, "We're right, they're wrong" although they don't back that up with any facts.

I hope we show up at the polls in big enough numbers this time to put a stop to this at least til 2012 when unfortunately it will start all over again.

Wonderful! Having never contributed to a campaign, my wife and I contributed three or four tiimes during the primary and since he won the primary we were leaving the main election to the big guys and their big bucks, but I guess we little guys will have to get back in there again to prevent this "hypocritical mismatched alliance" from going to the White House.

An aside, I cannot believe that Dr. Dobson sanctioned Sarah Palin to be a candidate with so many personal family issues for VP and the pregnant daughter on stage with her boyfriend….what message is America sending to the youth of America and the world.

Andy in Seattle   September 4th, 2008 5:55 pm ET

I was one of them as well. GOP is divisive and shows no respect. They are arrogant and won't own up to their mistakes. They don't even talk about the issues hurting Americans the most. No plan on the economy, no energy plan, no support of equal rights, no upholding separation of church and state. The list goes on.

Black republicans don't have to vote for Barack, although it would be nice. Instead they can just recognize the fact that this man is going to make history, and already has.

Speaking of black, was there a black-out at the Repug Convention last night. Oh, I think tonight they're going to have someone sing, you know blacks are always good for entertainment, they think.

No not foreign funds… I am an American, my husband works for an American owned and operated company, and I am a SAHM mom and I donated to Obama's fund after watching Palin. And no we can't buy our way into the White House but it just goes to show how much support Obama has. It will be a sad day if McCain/Palin is elected into office. I don't need religion running my country anymore than the middle east needs it in theirs.

Thank God! there's a public consciousness out there that is Proactive and it says "Hell no. We won't take it anymore" . The Democrats and independents are startled enough by the Republican hate speech to react not just with words but with money.
Palin's speech was devoid of ideas and full of contemptuous and self righteous innuendo (typical Republlican blather) but it represented no solutions. If all the Republicans have to offer is divisiveness and haughtiness they will fail to gather the independent thinking voters who are going to tip this election in Obama's favor. I, for one, have had it with the Republican BS of the last 8 years…. Like Barry says "We're Better Than This"!

Iowa for Obama   September 4th, 2008 5:54 pm ET

I gave my little pittance, $25, to Obama last night. It doesn't sound like much, but when you add that to the $25 all my friends gave, and the $25 my sister and each of my two brothers gave, and the $25 all their friends gave, it starts to add up to a bit of money. Many, MANY people have were turned off by the sarcasm and nastiness of the RNC last night.

I read the headlines. So what's the fricking point? If folks have decided to give money to Obama, for whatever reason, go ahead. If he's elected, you might be used to giving him money by then, as he'll continue to get more and more from you in taxes. All those programs he professes are great, but where in the hell do you think he'll get the money to pay for them? Don't believe it? Just wait and see. Put aside your Democrat or Republican leanings and strip away the topical veneer of his plan. It will cost lots and lots and lots of money and he's not going to get it from the rich folks. Wake up folks or reap what you sow.

I gave $100 on Monday and another $100 this morning after wallowing in Rove's bile. So, I'm pleased that so many others saw fit to pony up as well.

And while all this money was flowing OB's way, the Dow took it in the shorts 325 points at closing. I guess The Street weighed in on Palin and didn't like what they saw, either.

Yeah, Sarah, keep showing your well-filed teeth!

David   September 4th, 2008 5:51 pm ET

It was sickening to watch as Palin was "hoed out" by the GOP last night. You could definitely hear the Karl Rove venom being spewed out of what seemed to be just a pretty puppet. Rather than selling herself on her own merits as I'm sure she was capable of doing she was "sold out" by her party. The acerbic one-liners played well to the "rank and vile" Republicans but will surely cost them in Nov. The voters want and deserve better!

Teddy California   September 4th, 2008 5:51 pm ET

It seems McCain's campain strategy is to use Palin to rally the base (raise money too), speak to small town and blue collar workers. She will serve as the attack dog against Obama. It seems she is a very good attack dog, shooting at you while smiling at you.

In the meantime, McCain will then try to attract the independents and moderates and try to be less partisan and try to outline his vision for the future. You will find out that today and in the future soon. It will free McCain from the attacking dog role.

But it may not work because the media and maybe even common people are more interested in listening to Palin than McCain.

This Tina Fey lookalike Rove in drag hit it out of the ballpark last night – if the task was to deliver teleprompter lines in the impeccable manner of a Fox news anchor to an adoring audience of low-IQ drones. Her jabs and almost pathologic sneer-with-a-smile delivery put the ‘palin’ in ‘appalling’ – with a missing piece, fittingly.

susie   September 4th, 2008 5:51 pm ET

Obama and the Democrats keep talking about how they are going to have affordable health insurance, college tutition, etc. WHY??? With the way the public is donating to his campaign, apparently, our economy is not that bad. People can afford to send money, lots of money, why does Obama need to give all these affordable services to the people. Why does he talk so much about the economy when it is apparent there is no problem? With this big boost in campaign funds, a majority of people have more money than they need.

Jude, Boca, FL   September 4th, 2008 5:51 pm ET

Marjorie Helms, Amherst, NY   September 4th, 2008 5:50 pm ET

Keep it coming, Palin! The anger and bile of your speech was a welcome change from the typical smarmy smile the Republicans have been getting from McSame. By directly attacking Obama, she's making it clear that the Republican party has no faith in its candidate for president. Palin will accomplish nothing other than to enrage and awaken more Democrats (as if King George hasn't done that already). For such an inexperienced politician, she doesn't seem to realize where her 'pit-bull mouth' is going to take her. When the debates finally roll around, Biden will absolutely destroy her on national and international issues!

So, remember to renew your moose hunting license, Palin - you're going to need it again this winter while you're recovering from the Democratic landslide!…..

The Republican convention has been quite effective at rallying the Republican base and showing hardcore conservatives that McCain and Palin are the candidates for them.

Unfortunately for them, they've done an equally good job at insulting and alienating left-leaning independents (like myself) and open-minded democrats, who want to hear something more substantive than repeated statements about how much they love America and hate liberals. (And liberal media bias?? Oh please, can someone in the media call them on that BS and request some of the Republican commentators to substantiate it with something other than anecdotes? It is a statistical fact that Obama has had far more negative media coverage than McCain.)

Texans for Obama   September 4th, 2008 5:49 pm ET

I am not surprised. He is going to raise more than that when old man McCain speaks tonight.

I am so tired of negative attacks, and no solutions by the Republican's. This woman who is hardly known can energize this geriatric base I saw last night at the convention with that one speech.
All of the Republican's have no life. They were a bunch of old geezers, with a sprinkle of young people and maybe 20 black folks in the crowd.
How sad that appeared to the TV audience, that there is no diversity that represents the real America

I am a toastmaster, and the delivery was okay but it lacked the subtance. A bunch of negative attacks and that was it. To me she looked like a puppet.

As a parent who has raised 4 children (2 boys and 2 girls) and a handicapped grandson since he was 8 months old, I personally feel that any one with a special needs child, should be there to give the child the love and care, and that is the responsibility of a mother. Not Nanny, babysitter, nurse, etc.

Also, where was Palin for the last five months not to notice that her daughter was late with her cycle. Was her responsibilities more important and took to much of her time not to notice that her daughter was gaining weight. It was obvious that something was wrong with her daughter when she was holding the baby's blanket over her stomach.
