Former reality star Rachel Campos-Duffy at the CNN Grill during the Republican National Convention.

ST. PAUL, Minnesota (CNN) – “Now we have a race,” Rachel Campos-Duffy said of McCain’s “excellent choice” for vice president, Sarah Palin.

The ‘Real World’ reality star and Republican activist was dining at the CNN Grill Wednesday evening with her three-month old newborn in tow. Campos-Duffy, like Palin, is a mother of five.

“I think before, maybe we could’ve won, but I think that now we have a real, really good shot at it. I really do,” Campos-Duffy said of Palin on the ticket.

“I don’t really have a lot in common with Hillary Clinton. I have a heck of a lot more in common with this woman, and I think that most people I know, Democrat or Republican, would say the same thing.”

The conservative blogger, a frequent contributor to a parenting site, says 17-year-old Bristol Palin’s decision to have her baby only puts a “stamp on [the family’s] pro-life credentials.”

“They say that pro-choice is sort of the women’s position, but I think that women’s positions on choice are really softening,” Campos-Duffy said. “When [women] have had 40 ultrasounds, had babies, and seen spina bifida operations done in utero, I think there’s a lot more softening about women’s decisions.”

Duffy is married to fellow “Real World” alum, Sean Duffy, now a Republican delegate from Wisconsin. Oh, if you are wondering, Rachel starred in Season Three, "Real World San Francisco."

I remember the season she was on The Real World…but only because of her castmate Pedro and his beautiful relationship with his boyfriend/husband Shawn. I remember when he revealed to his roommates that he was HIV positive, she immediately showed her true narrow-minded, backwards thinking republican colors. Rachel was an idiot then, she remains an idiot now.

Pedro was an avid community organizer and devoted his remaining days to educating not only the homosexual but hetersexual about what it was like to be "living with this disease". Teaching the importance of safe sex.

If that makes community organizers irrelevent in the eyes of her candidate and she can identify with her, what does that say about her and her opinion of her "friend" Pedro…a lowly community organizer. Rachel your 15 minutes was up a LONG time ago. Please, for the love of God, go away.

Lifelong Repub 4 Obama   September 4th, 2008 7:38 pm ET

I'm getting very confused about the references to Bristol Palin's "decision" to have and keep the baby. This implies that the girl had a choice to make and could have "decided" to end the pregnancy or put the baby up for adoption. BUT, that would make candidate Palin pro-choice, wouldn't it???

Judy   September 4th, 2008 7:26 pm ET

First; Who is is this woman? She was on some made-in-hollywood make believe "reality" show and now she is an expert on what MOST women want? BTY; where will all these so called "pro-life" people if some girl is raped and forced to have the baby? Will these people step up to the plate and support her and her child? If they say they will than let me tell you now; there are plenty of children now who need good homes so come on and step up to the plate and adopt a child (just please don't teach them your values). The republicians are so out of touch with the average American; case in point, Paulin saying that Obama was "just a community organizer", I guess that a person who goes out into the community and attempts to help people is nothing.

Who, in fact, is moderating this forum? Why are you so relectant to post my response? I really do not want to vote Republican, but every time I come here and try to post, my suspicions are reinforced: Honest dialogue is not what the forums want. As a colleague told me today: It's "Jerry Springer" sensationalism that has become the voice of reason.

I am a big Hillary supporter, but I support Obama because of the solutions to the issues for AVERAGE working women. I want my right to choice….I work with many women who has 2 to 3 kids and can barely stop the foreclosure on their house and we do not want to talk about the cost of healthcare. And most are single mothers how are you going to help them… thinking that just because you put a woman on the ticket we are automatically going to vote for her….she does not represent views and values of Hillary Clinton or for the average working woman nor our struggles everyday…So stop insulting our intelligence… Wish I could be a Hockey mom, but can not afford to be one, bills has to be paid….over worked and under paid….

I think CNN has finally lost it…..are you kidding me…this is the most famous person they could find? and then she goes to try and speak on behalf of woman. Well, as a pro-choice, environmentally conscious woman who finds Palin terrifying, I can honestly say that this person is a joke and apparently so is CNN's coverage.

Joe Burton   September 4th, 2008 6:24 pm ET

A "Real World" bimbo's opinion belongs on MTV and not on CNN. The unvetted Palin will end up like Thomas Eagleton and be dropped for "family" reasons. i.e. the downs syndrome baby. It really is "Much Ado about Nothing." Obama will snag a real mandate. Not like the one claimed by "W".

LeePee- FL   September 4th, 2008 6:22 pm ET

hmm..yeah, women's position on choice and their reproductive decisions are really "softening" - NOT. i'm tired fo this idea that women are pro-choice because they want to get abortions. NO woman wants to get an abortion. and i'm also tired of people forcing their beliefs and ideologies on others. if you don't want to get an abortion, then don't get one. it's that simple. i'll make my own decisions and i think that every women should have the right to make her own decisions.

mmd   September 4th, 2008 6:15 pm ET

I bet in a lot of those small towns where they not other cling to their guns and prayers, they also look out for each other I would call them the original community orgs. Where every activity involving existence in rual life depends on your neighbor. I quess small towns would'nt get a plush chair around the big rep. table.

I believe that small town people are insulted by your, reps, totally disregard for their believes that include clinging to their guns and prayers, but also include a hell of a lot more. What Obama said was more in line with relating to these people. the salt of the earth, or the community org. in wanting ensure that their concerns are addressed.

And more importantly, they are not left out.

All of you small town people, the reps response to you is that they will fed you cake will you cling.

Fazio   September 4th, 2008 6:12 pm ET

who is this woman…. and why should we care? Sure, like every citizen, she is entitled to her views and opinions (that is what makes our country great after all….) but really CNN…. is this a slow news day or what? Do you want to interview the man who works at my local Starbucks on his views?

mike   September 4th, 2008 6:11 pm ET

Hey JJ, a hypocrite is someone who preaches family values and abstinence as a method for birth control, then can't prevent her own daughter from becoming pregnant at 17. Then proceeds to act as if it is some sort of blessing. The hypocrite republicans follow suit and act is if something wonderful has occurred. A hypocrite is someone who tries to mock a community organizer, someone who helps the public with little recognition or pay but does so out of benevolence.
A hypocrite is someone who criticizes their oponent for supporting big government, then lies about her vote on the bridge to nowhere. Wake Up.

dina osullivan   September 4th, 2008 6:11 pm ET

Pro life means you will take responsibility to raise the chld hyou choose tohave rather than running around being a politician, least of all, the VP How wouldany mother be VP and raise a handicapped baby and tend to a pregnant daughter who is almost a chldherself. Pro life means you are a pro mother. I certainlhy don't think her mind will be on security, economy and the rest with those family problemsandthey shouldn't. Would aman be held to the same tasks No. We haven'tarrived at that place yet. For some men it might work, for others they would delegate to their wives, but the bottomline is…Is she a mother first or a politician first? You just don't have a bazby and turn it over to someone else to raise andhyou don't take on a serious job like the VP unless hyou can give hour all to it.

I'm glad Palin's daughter is keeping her baby, but other teenage girls are not so fortunate. They cant afford babies. They'll have to get an abortion.

Let's educate our girls to make the right and not teach kids to have kids and to openly agree and accept the abnormal.

Who will be paying for Pristol's baby diapers? her mom?

A republican activist with five kids loves Palin. Where's the news????

LeAnn (a RN of 22 years)   September 4th, 2008 5:48 pm ET

I don't believe Sarah Palin's decision to not terminate her pregnancy
(even though knowing it would be a Down's syndrome child), or her daughter Bristol"s making the same decision is that extraordinary.
Women and girls make that same choice around the country who are
both prolife and prochoice. But if Mrs.Palin and/or her daughter Bristol
decided to carry a child to full term that resulted from either being raped or a victim of incest (as I heard in one news report Mrs.Palin
believes) now that would put a real "stamp on (the family's) pro-life
credentials. I'm sure in those circumstances she would continue to be blessed by her loving family and husband who would all help raise that child ("as long as they were good" as stated by her ideal
Mr. Mom high school sweatheart). Goverment funded programs for
special needs children will also play a part in some of the care I
would imagine. It is hard to imagine any pregnant woman deciding
on abortion under these special circumstances, if so blessed with
these resources. Again, if so blessed.

BJGT   September 4th, 2008 5:36 pm ET

I think it is reprehensible that she is politicizing her children AND exposing that baby to health risks with the travel, crowd, noise etc - Down's babies have very fragile immune systems shows very poor judgment

Pam   September 4th, 2008 5:36 pm ET

Wow, there's a ringing endorsement.

Hockey Moms for Obama   September 4th, 2008 5:35 pm ET

So, Having a underage pregnant daughter qualifies Palin to rule the free world??? That is beyond stupid. That is like wrapping America up with a big bow, calling China, Iran, or Russia, & telling them to come get us. America is on too many prescripts that are obviously messing with people's brains..

Obama has no new ideas of change, it is the ultra liberal side of politics. Guess what either way its change, its not Bush. You can keep saying that McCain voted with Bush 90% of the time but Obama has voted the liberal agenda 98% of the time. How is that change, his ideas are not new.

Such outrage about Palin…Who is taking care of the kids….Where is this concern with Obama and his wife on the campaign trail for the last year and a half. Is Biden being jabbed at for staying in the Senate when he tragically ended up as a single father. Who was taking care of his kids?

All the outrage toward Palin "making fun" of Obama being a community organizer. Well, Obama first came out with a jab against her being a Mayor of a small town then saying his executive experience comes from running his campaign.

Hypocrites……..

Bitter Joe,

What is so wrong with Socialism? This is what it means
Socialism is the politico-economic theory of social organization advocating that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be regulated or owned by the community, and in an easy translation that means the government is of the people, for the people and by the people. To me it seems the Republicans want the government to be run by retards with guns. Republicans seem to me to lean more toward Dictatorship or the Old Monarchy that we fought the Revolutionary War to get away from.

Also, please tell me EXACTLY what John McCain or Sarah Palin have done for me lately, or you for that matter. Unless you live in Alaska, Sarah Palin has done NOTHING for you because as the Alaskan Governor, she only has had to care about Alaskans so far. Most of the comments I have read coming against Sarah Palin are coming from ALASKANS. They know her and they even hate her stupid butt and don't believe the words that are coming out of her mouth.

I agree with Charles Black 1000% and it is true. Also, if you want to put religion in it and say what would Jesus do? NOT CARRY A GUN
that if for sure. I do not even know how someone could use gun and God in the same sentence. TOTALLY HYPOCRITICAL!!

As for Russians and Al Qaeda shaking in their boots Bitter Joe.
IF they are, it is only because they are on the floor rolling with laughter.
I am sure they think Sarah Palin is more of a joke than I do, and she is a PRETTY BIG JOKE TO ME!!!

PALIN- A HILLARY SHE IS NOT! OBAMA/BIDEN 08

stephanie kimber   September 4th, 2008 5:18 pm ET

As a woman I am repulsed by Sarah Palin. She is only in the race because the Republicans need charisma and more oil drilling opportunities. She is a good public speaker, but many people are. She should stay home and raise her kids. She didn't move to Juneau because she wanted to stay near her kids school-so clearly her family is her priority. I hope it stays that way and she gets out of politics. Its one thing to run tiny little Alaska-but the entire US is quite a jump. She puts the PTA on her resume for heavens sake!

I don't want to identify with my president, I want to admire him/her. I am still amazed that we choose candidates that we "identify" with-as if running the most powerful country in the world requries only average skills and some charisma. I want to vote for the smartest, most intellegent choice-not the most attractive. This is our future, and after the last 8 years, I am amazed how cavilier people are about their choice. As if a good speech is indicative of anything except a good speech writer and some acting experience.

McKen's Barbie Collection   September 4th, 2008 5:18 pm ET

You complain about your boss not doing his job. You notice he's only working to fatten his pockets with big oil payoffs. He fights all the time with the smaller companies instead of the bigger company that has hurt him the most . Your have not received a raise and you may lose your job because the boss is now outsourcing the jobs. You are about to lose your house and boss has so many houses he can't count them. The company you work for has not turned a profit and has low approval ratings. The boss distributes a company wide memo that reads " I really don't know much about the economy." You have put up with his bullying ways for eight long years. Finally your work contract is ending with your boss. Should I continue working for this creep or should I CHANGE employers?

It's that simple America. It's time for a change and YOU know it.

Have you kissed your moose today?

Mad Republican TX   September 4th, 2008 5:10 pm ET

I'm a republican and I'm mad as heck. I just can't believe McCain would pick someone like this. I thought I was a republican for life but now I see how things work in this party. First they had me to believe Obama was an elitist, second that he was a celebrity, third that he has no experience. And what did they do, they seen how Obama was stealing spot light from McCain, so he went out and got him some eye candy for the public. If your a soldier I thought you're supposed to stick with your guns. The same things McCain threw at Obama he just threw at his self. Only thing that seperate the 2 is she's a republican and he's a democrate. I might be switching my parties will soon.

Palin=Obama just better looking. :)

Palin has more executive experience than either Obama or Biden.
That folks is a fact. The whitehouse is not a training center for novices. Actions speak louder than words. and both McCAin and

WHAT? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

This is from the current WH speech writer. So you have to qualify it somewhat but you have to say that the republicans are freakin losin their minds over this woman. She has now replaced Betsy Ross for patriotism and mother Theresa for americans of faith.

Be very afraid americans. We're about to see the most freaky Pres. and VP of this history. Is anyone hearing this? Karen Hughes is interviewing now and is vying for her opportunity to continue the Bush legacy thru McBush.

A 44 year old women with two, 3, 4 teenage children … OK persue being VP

Gov. Palin is in the middle of an ABUSE OF POWER investigation as Governor of Alaska. The problem here is that, Gov. Palin stuck her political nose into her sister's private bitter divorce. WHY would she do that? WHY would your office put any pressure in this matter?

Now CNN has just reported that emails are starting to surface about Gov. Palin's role in firing the Safety Commissioner for NOT firing her brother-in-law.

NOW all of a sudden Gov. Palin has HIRED an attorney, hummmm I wonder why? and WHO is paying for this attorney? McCain or Palin? Because if it's the McCain camp then, something SMELLS VERY COVER-UP FISHY?

Toni   September 4th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

What would a Dem have in common with her besides the fact the she is a woman?

If they have anything in common with her, then they were just for Hillary because she is a woman, and not the issues

They couldnt be farther apart on the issues

Joe   September 4th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

The thing about choice is that a woman can choose to keep the baby. The problem with the no-choice crowd is that they don't take the responsibility for their forcing the decision on the woman by raising the child. Thus, it is an immoral doctrine.

I hope you all can see that she is an angry woman. She's trying to be tough in front of all the old white men at the convention. It's not that women can't have careers and children too, but you have to be able to know what your priorities are. Right now, her family should be her priority. Her daughter is obviously crying out for attention and her little baby boy needs definite attention. She needs to take care of her own house first and then she can claim to know how to help mine!

Where's the beef? Remember that catchphrase from the Regan era? This so applies to the GOP convention. Where's the beef? I didn't hear any solutions from Nanook of the North, or the Arizona Kid's henchmen. They are patently attacking the Democratic candidates because if they were to stick with issues, they'd be slammed to the concrete. The American people are sick to death with the economy, the war, health care, veteran's rights…all problems squarely in the imbecile from Crawford's lap. So next time Palin, McCain or any of the other GOP cronies pipe up with something about Obama or Biden, ask them "WHERE'S THE BEEF?".

Diane Dagenais Turbide   September 4th, 2008 4:22 pm ET

Hi,

If you call this a race then it is a race of the same old policies versus new ideas to change and better all our lives! Women are not buying the past eight years stand on various policies. And the stand on abortion is not softening! The government has no business in my personal right to choose…That dream ticket is the same old ticket of not being part of real people's life and daily struggles since they do not offer any new ideas and solutions..but they do offer attacks! The same old Bush/ McCain and now Palin team is the same : they are not part of our kitchen table solutions and the arrogance to even think that they have the right to my bedroom!

Hey Rachel don't speak for me. Sarah showed her tacky, ultra conservative side and any woman that has a handle on the real issues that women face would never vote for this, good old boys wanna-be!!!!!!!!!!

PALIN PUMA   September 4th, 2008 4:16 pm ET
