Watch:'We're going to win this election," McCain says.

(CNN) - McCain touched on immigration policy –- it’s a touchy subject. One thing the convention has largely avoided talking about is immigration, an area where McCain has often parted ways with the conservative base.

Finally, he brings out some criticism of Obama, in talking about the second element of his economic plan: cutting taxes. Cutting taxes and keeping government spending low are the foundation of Republican economics –- Reaganomics.

The question is, do people feel their economic problems caused by government spending and high taxes? They certainly did in 1980 -– but it’s 28 years later.

He keeps hitting Obama on the economy with an arguable criticism: I don’t know if it’s fair to say Obama is wishing away the global economy, as McCain is saying –- what’s the basis of that claim?

is it time to wake up yet. Talk about boring

Reform? or Conform?   September 4th, 2008 11:07 pm ET

How is reaganomics reform?

McCain doesn't have any original idea. He's not a maverick- not anymore.

He was in the Senate floor persuading the whole world to go to war against Saddam Hussein. He then said Saddam had WMD which he can launch in minutes against us and our allies in Europe. Its now 6yrs with thousands lives lost and billions spent. I served in the OP Desert Storm and I do demand him to tell us the truth about WMD! Where are they ? Where is Osama in all these years after taking our lives and ruining our economy?

When has the lack of a rational argument ever stopped this Republican party from making dubious claims or telling outright lies? Why should McCaoin's speech tonight be any different?

Paul Allen Billings   September 4th, 2008 11:06 pm ET

Where is McCain's Flag pin?

So McCain likes to "pick fights just for the fun of it"? Oh right- this is just who I want with his finger on the button!

McCain is just an old warmonger who can't even remember who the enemy is, or worse yet just doesn't care, as long as he can bomb somebody and have some "fun"!

BofDC   September 4th, 2008 11:06 pm ET

Is government spending really what got us in this mess we are in right now? uhh, nope. Wrong message, McCain. Same ol' Same ol'. Complete misdirection and lack of substance. tisk...tisk...tisk.

Finally Negative? Give me a break. His campaign is full of lies. It is important for the public to know that Palin raised taxes as governor, supported the Bridge to Nowhere before she opposed it, pursued pork-barrel projects as mayor, tried to ban books at the local library and thinks the war in Iraq is "a task from God." The attempts by the McCain campaign to bully us into not reporting such things are not only stupidly aggressive, but unprofessional in the extreme.

mike   September 4th, 2008 11:06 pm ET

It seemed mildy negative compared to Palin's address. For someone who hates war, I believe he used the word "fight" at least 40 times.
His personal story is compelling. Not much else is.

McCain Voted Against Vets   September 4th, 2008 11:06 pm ET

I see he used Van Halen's 'Right here, right now' again after they EXPLICITLY told him not too. Stick with the raisin mccain stupid song and quit breaking the law.

Same old Republican Bologna. All of a sudden they try to jump on the CHANGE wagon? Senators Obama & Biden have had their eye on REAL CHANGE all along. McCain putting Palin on the ticket was the icing on the cake. She is to abrasive and to conservative for most Americans.( No Sex Education, Gay Rights, Abortion) Sounds a little out of touch to, not believing that Global Warming is man made ? This is a losing ticket. McCain will not take Michigan. We are to smart for him here!
