Statement of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton
Thursday, Sep 4, 2008

The two party conventions showcased vastly different directions for our country. Senator Obama and Senator Biden offered the new ideas and positive change America needs and deserves after eight years of failed Republican leadership. Senator McCain and Governor Palin do not.

After listening to all the speeches this week, I heard nothing that suggests the Republicans are ready to fix the economy for middle class families, provide quality affordable health care for all Americans, guarantee equal pay for equal work for women, restore our nation's leadership in a complex world or tackle the myriad of challenges our country faces. So, to slightly amend my comments from Denver: NO WAY, NO HOW, NO McCAIN-PALIN.

I agree. They have said nothing but "well Obama said..." the whole time. No substance at the RNC. I guess this is why they had so many protesters.

This guy should go babysit. This is no change. I am surprised he's even made it this far. When are we going to get the specifics about the future of our children sir? You do not belong to us. You and your sarah palin (who thinks God has sent the troops to IRAQ) should leave this country for the real guy who really understand us.

politsense   September 4th, 2008 11:07 pm ET

Mccain's speech is so boring and offers no concrete strategies to move our country forward. All I hear is" fight with me" forgeting that a Hungry Stomach cannot really fight very well. I guess with 9 houses and $300,000 for Cindy's cloths/Jewels, they can afford to keep fighting. After 8 years of Buah/Mccain, we can't afford this fight that he talks about.

hick   September 4th, 2008 11:07 pm ET

WAY TO GO,HILLARYYYYY!!!! OBAMA SUPPORTERS LOVE YOU, TOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
[repubs may have gotten my vote ,but, they attacked obama's patriotism. that i will not tolerate!]

To be a little bit fair to McCain, he did say something about retraining those who lost their old jobs that won't come back for new jobs he says won't go away.

Abby   September 4th, 2008 11:07 pm ET

NO WAY, NO HOW, NO McCAIN-PALIN.

You complain about your boss not doing his job. You notice he's only working to fatten his pockets with big oil payoffs. He fights all the time with the smaller companies instead of the bigger company that has hurt him the most . Your have not received a raise and you may lose your job because the boss is now outsourcing the jobs. You are about to lose your home. The boss has so many houses he can't count them. The company you work for has not turned a profit in years and has low approval ratings. The boss distributes a company wide memo that reads " I really don't know much about the economy." The boss threatens to release the pitbull on if you keep WHINING. You have put up with his bullying ways for eight long years. Finally your work contract is ending with your boss. As you think about your family's future you ask yourself "Should I continue working for this creep or should I CHANGE employers? ".

It's that simple America. It's time for a change and YOU know it.

ANCIENT PROVERB: Don't let your pitbulls run loose with the moose on the White House lawn.

K Starr   September 4th, 2008 11:06 pm ET

Thank you Senator Clinton!

Conclusions from an independent observer after closely following both Conventions:
- The Democratic Convention reminds me of an uplifting harmony conducted by a virtuoso maestro surrounded by qualified musicians playing in tune, who together inspired the best qualities of the American and human spirit and helped us dream of a better world for all.
- The Republican Convention created the uncomfortable feeling that I was witnessing the darker side of human nature and helped me better understand why Americans are so morose and distrustful of the rest of the world, and why most Americans and their natural friends have lost faith in government. The general mood, chants and slogans sadly reminded me of scenes I have only seen in movies and documentaries where people blindly shouted “deutschland uber alles”. How sad.
- I have lost all my previous admiration and much respect for John McCain. In spite of his gentler, somnolent tone in his acceptance speech tonight, it was full of the usual, tired empty slogans, rhetoric and wishful thinking but completely devoid of content. How could he have sold his soul to the devil so easily and permitted “his” Convention to be highjacked by the same angry, mean-spirited, mistrusting people who have created the mess we are in today? Where were his vaunted decency and common sense? It has also led me to question the value of his experience and “achievements”. Apart from withstanding bravely the suffering of a young prisoner of war, his long experience in the military and in politics amounts to mediocrity, in spite of his long years of “service” and his cheeky chutzpah. Where would he really be today if he were not born with a silver spoon in his mouth or if he had not remarried into serious money? He would probably be happily driving a truck to earn a living, instead of speaking like a “maverick” while acting and living like a comfortable member of the elite establishment.
- Barack Obama? He displayed leadership, intelligence, humanity, judgement, courage, generosity, strength of character and maturity that I have rarely seen in one politician in all my lifetime. Even if they had 100 years of experience, John McCain and his self-described “pitbull with lipstick” could only dream of developing these rare qualities in a single individual. If Barack Obama is not ready to become a good president, there is no other active politician alive today who is ready.

God bless America and God bless this world.

Sad that Hilary Clinton (who alway have alot to say) keep it simple because McCain speech was simple. One good thing is Obama have nothing to attack because McCain is stated any platform.

kriss g   September 4th, 2008 11:06 pm ET

Hillary, while I was an Obama backer from the beginning, I respect your forum and your policies. I find it interesting that the republicans actually think that Mrs Palin will convert your supporters. Very short-sighted!

Obama/Biden 08   September 4th, 2008 11:06 pm ET

Good for Hillary Clinton! I'm glad to see that she has put the good of the party ahead of her own ambitions. This is the mark of a good politician.

Bravo, Hillary, bravo.

Fl Indep   September 4th, 2008 11:06 pm ET

Women are smart. They dont vote for other women because they are women. They vote for people because they believe in the policies the candidate support. Any Hillary voter willing to vote McCain or stay at home, is sacrificing their own beliefs and needs. Hillary would be insulted.

Kenneth "Voter" Rios   September 4th, 2008 11:05 pm ET

This one statement has more mirth and is more respectable than anything Governor Palin has said so far in her role as the GOP pitbull.

Amen Clinton. Amen!!!

Alex, USMC   September 4th, 2008 11:05 pm ET

Makes me wonder. I can just see Obama coming out tommorrow and saying if he's elected that Hillary will be his Secretary of State (or similar position) and that she did the VP nod because she and he both felt that she'd be in a better position in another capacity.

What would happen then? I'd hope that if there is a plan to include Clinton in Obama's potential Presidency, the democrats would be smart enough to announce it right after the convention the same way the Republicans did with the Palin nod.

Joe   September 4th, 2008 11:05 pm ET

Sarah Palin, I know Hillary Clinton. I've supported her. She's my friend. And Governor Palin ... You are NO Hillary Clinton.

Chi4Obama   September 4th, 2008 11:05 pm ET

John McCain's 5 favorite Phrases:

5)" My Friends"….
4) "Drill, Drill, Drill"…
3) "Senator Obama"… (followed by anything negative)….
2) "The Surge"….

And Finally:
1) (Blah, Blah)…"I was a POW"..(insert any irrelevant phrase after).

Kay   September 4th, 2008 11:05 pm ET

Awesome Hill!!

It is so on now.

I love how McCain is acting like he's the solution instead of being part of the problem over the last 8 years.

Let's kick some "Pale McCain" butt!

ChangeWeCanBelieveIn   September 4th, 2008 11:02 pm ET

I am so happy the protester came in and let them know whats in her heart. CNN, why wont you tell the truth and stop playing games? They are using fear tactics and cold false lies about Barack to scare Americans. People are so upset about what they are doing. The fact that they are parading around a down-sydrome baby, making sure the camera catches his face, or picking a woman who is not qualfied at all to V.P. is simply absurd! Cindy Mccain said she is qualified because she is a pistol-packing hockey mom, while laughing and smiling? Are you kidding me? This is not a joke CNN. People are suffering everyday and this is what the republicans are doing? They make fun of people working in the communities and CNN you wont do anything but say oh what a homerun speech Palin made or Campell Brown, you saying how much you relate to her parading around her baby. Well I have a friend who has a special needs daughter and she was simply outraged and simply offended about how Palin was showing off and using her child. CNN tell the truth! This is ridiculous. Do not lie like these republicans are doing! People are writing in from your blogs so upset, so tired, and you pay them no attention! If you want to know the truth, listen to what we are saying! STOP THE LIES CNN AND TELL THE TRUTH!
