(CNN) – As the newly minted Republican ticket gets set to tour key campaign states immediately following the end of the party’s convention, Sarah Palin's husband Todd is staying behind in Minneapolis for what's reputed to be the largest snowmobile event in the word.
Palin, a world renowned championship snowmobiler known as the "first dude" in Alaska, is set to attend "Hay Days" in lieu of hitting the campaign trail, senior McCain campaign aides told CNN. "Hay Days" is a snowmobile grass drag racing event that is billed as the unofficial kick-off of the snowmobile season.
Watch: Meet the 'first dude'
The aides didn't say whether Palin was participating in the event.
The race attracts the "fastest and most sophisticated iron in the world," according to the event's Web site. "The track has come from one that was full of bumps, to a groomed strip with cyclone fence and an underground sprinkler system which keeps the track in beautiful condition."
Palin, 43, is a four-time winner of the world's longest snowmobile race - the 2,000 mile Tesoro Iron Dog contest, that winds through Alaska's rugged terrain and is dubbed the "Iron Dog Iditarod."

-Her draconian philosophy on sex ed failed with her own daughter.
-She's being investigated by an ethics commitee in Alaska for abusing power regarding her former brother in law.
-She fired people from city government as mayor because they didn't support her campaign.
-She promised to support the bridge to nowhere as a candidate for gov, and then decided she was against it after it already died in the us legislature.
-She believe Iraq is a "mission from God"
-She wants to take away my choices concerning my own body.
-She's given speeches to an Alaskan secessionist group recently.
-This "mother of five" (Palin) doesn't seem too concerned about the toll spotlight due to her candidacy will or could do the her pregnant teenage daughter. All she can say is "it's a private matter" while the GOP themselves continue to talk about it as some whack-a-doo example of solid values.
Yawn
I have noticed a lot of judgmental people. I wish we had more than two parties that were televised and given the same amount of air time. I've had my fill of both Dems. and Reps.
And this is news. Shame on you CNN. When McCain camp accused CNN (Campbell Brown), they started wagging their tail for the Republicans. Standing in between the parties doesn't make you neutral. Stand for the truth even if it takes standing with a party.
this is news why?
So...who's taking care of the baby, then? Nah, never mind, not important.
Did America run out of smart, qualified people to run the country when we weren't looking or what? Just amazing! We are at war and just about bankrupt, and the GOP wants people to accept a 'fast learner' as one of her main qualifications???? NOT ACCEPTABLE!
************* Hockey Moms for Obama ********************
WHO CARES?
If given the choice I'd rather go to the snow mobile event. Nice to see someone other than the daughters holding the baby though.
This is so stupid and the sad part is it works.
Where is Mom ? Are her other children minding the store. Have her other children become the parents. Could this be why her oldest daughter is in the situation she is in because no parent was around to supervise.
You guys are just always miserable and full of hate aren't you? Sad.
The real world goes on, outside of politics. This was no doubt, planned well in advance of this political stage.
I really think that atleast ONE of the parent's should be taking care of the kids. Stay home with the kid's DUDE.
CNN, this is not news. Isn't there another scandal that you can find on Gov Palin?
So, Mr. Mom thinks snowmobiling is more important than his party's convention? Oh, sorry, fogot that his party is the Alaskan Independence Party.
oh
So what? How is this news in any way, shape or form?
CNN should be asking questions like: why is Palin hiding from the media? McCain, Obama & Biden are all scheduled for Sunday morning talk shows; what's her excuse? Is she staying home to help pack her son's underwear or something? And if that's the case, why isn't his father headed home as well?
Ok, I guess maybe this is news afterall; the "First Dude" would rather follow his hobbies than spend time with his son, who is supposedly deploying for Iraq next week.
Family values, my foot.
Really? Who's going to be home minding the kids?
Is this news?
Great! Then he and his wife can snowmobile back to Alaska and take McSame and Bush with them too!
Some uneducated people think Palin gave a great speech etc..
FYI... She read the script very well... Exactly like she was told to.
PALIN THE PUPPET!
Vacation to Hawaii in the middle of a campaign – priorities!!
WHO CARES!!!!
Well, we know he's just gonna roll over if the phone rings at 3am and Sarah will be better off letting the machine get it.
