Heart condemns McCain-Palin use of 'Barracuda'

ST. PAUL, Minnesota (CNN) - Blasting through the Republican convention hall is the 1977 hit "Barracuda" by rock band Heart.

It's a shout-out to Sarah Palin. When she played basketball in high school, the soon-to-be Republican vice presidential nominee earned the nickname "Sarah barracuda" for her fierce competitiveness.

Some of her opponents revived the "Sarah barracuda" nickname after she became mayor of her hometown, Wasilla, in 1996, defeating a three-term incumbent.

UPDATE: Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart said Thursday night that Universal Music Publishing and Sony BMG have sent a cease and desist notice to the McCain-Palin campaign over their use of 'Barracuda.'

"We have asked the Republican campaign publicly not to use our music. We
hope our wishes will be honored," the group said in a statement that said they "condemn" the use of the song at the Republican convention.

Funny the Republicans knew she was "sarah barracuda" but seemingly nothing else about her.

I like how he makes a campaign speech, and that qualifies him as breaking with Bush. How about the last 8 years?

As far as the fighting talk, the Republicans are nothing but the WAR party. You'd think with the emphasis on WAR they could have planned the last WAR better.

he GOP is so sad. They are hateful, spiteful people. Yes I supported Hillary and now I will support my ideals. This not about supporting the DNC its about my beliefs and my beliefs are the complete opposite from McCain and Palin.

It was a simple speech. Very grade school. That might play with some... but very much, not with others. It also was not honest. McCain chose Palin not because she is ready to lead on day one if something were to happen to him. It was Mccain pander to the far right first.. not country first.

Those women who said they were Hillary fans who now back McCain, listen. If you really believed in Hillary and what she stood for, listen! Sarah Palin is a poor substitute for the real thing. Her views on the real issues like the economy, the environment, and education are all wrong - not to mention the standard Republican hot button topics like abortion - just to name a few!

If you feel you can't vote for Obama in Novemeber, do the rest of us a favor and stay home and watch the news on election day. Don't waste your vote promoting McCain/Palin and their outrageous right-wing ideas. Women, we are smarter than this! We can't be tricked into voting against our own interests! PLEASE! We are smarter than this!

Makes me wonder if some of these statements from "women" are really women at all... Rush, Newt, is that you?

As a teacher (and a darn good one at that), I am promising America that McCain's plans WILL NOT WORK. McCain's (I mean Bush's) plan will only serve to help the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. It will increase the divide in schools and send us further down the education ladder. How can we compete in the world with a terrible education system? I know for sure that this plan will devastate our education, and I see it first hand everyday. PLEASE don't buy into what he is saying!

This speech did nothing for me. As a veteran i guess i'm not impressed cuz he did his job, and i,m looking for a new president. he seemed insincere and clueless. I also have a child diagnosed w/ autism and he shouldn't make politics out of her life.
