Palin hammers Obama on Iraq policy

Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin were joined by Mrs. McCain at a campaign stop in Wisconsin.

CEDARBURG, Wisconsin (CNN) – Sarah Palin took to her attack dog role with gusto on Friday morning, calling John McCain “the only great man in this race” and disparaging Barack Obama’s judgment on the troop surge in Iraq.

Watch: Palin slams Obama on Iraq

Reading off notes, Palin mocked Obama for telling Fox News on Thursday that the surge “has succeeded in ways that nobody anticipated.”

“I guess when you turn out to be profoundly wrong on a vital national security issue, maybe it’s comforting to pretend that everyone else was wrong too,” Palin said, adding that McCain was “the one leader who did predict success.”

The crowd cheered when Palin reprised a pithy line from her convention speech that mocked Obama's professional background.

Watch: Palin: I had "actual responsibilities"

“I guess a small town mayor is sort of like a community organizer only you have actual responsibilities,” she said, responding to critics who accuse her of lacking experience.

Thousands of locals crammed into a picturesque block in this town north of Milwaukee to see the Republican ticket-mates speak. It was a fitting backdrop as Palin offered a Mayberry-esque description of her own home town and small towns everywhere, saying that the people who hail from small towns “love our country in good times and bad, and they are always proud to be an American.”

As was the case at the other Republican rallies she has attended over the last week, Palin’s star power at times seemed to outshine McCain’s. She elicited boos from the crowd as she attacked Obama, and chants of "John McCain! John McCain!" as she lavished praise on the GOP nominee.

“Sarah Palin gives me hope because she’s just like us," said Jim Buss, a voter from the nearby town of Glendale. "If she can be vice president of the United States, any of us can. My daughter can. Prior to that, Washington was elitist. Here’s a regular person going to be the second most powerful person in the world."

McCain was a bit more effusive. He introduced Palin as “the most marvelous running mate in the history of this nation.”

Please stop criticizing volunteer work done by community organizers.

    Seriously.

They have done more to help America than any campaign speech.

She is a nutcase! Why does she insist on disparaging Obama about his community organizer experience?? He was 23 years old when he did that!! She should be ashamed of herself. If she thinks that this kind of talk will win her votes, she better get a reality check! There are alot of community organizers out there who are appalled at her negativity regarding this subject.

It really appears that McCain is dragging his pittbull everywhere, I should add his pittbull with lipstick. Please women, let us email this woman and tell her to stop this.Real hockeymom dont spend their time nagging others, they actually do real work. What does Palin know about foreign policy? Nothing other than what the McShame camp is briefing her on, and why isn't she attacking Biden, he's the VP she's running against not the President. Palin is so unlady like and unprofessional! If she's so tough on everything and has so much experience, why can't she talk to the press, everyone else who ran did? I guess she's waiting for the McShame camp to tell her what to say. This election is serious business, there are people who thought they had everything together and are losing jobs, homes, retirement, and this McShame and Pailn are playing on the American people. It's terrible and it's too serious for him to be pandering to get elected to do the same things for the next 4 years. Maybe that's why he doesn't want Obama to win. McCain wants to tax everyone except the rich (Himself), he's lying about Obama's tax plan and I'm sick of it. I have real bills in the real world and I want someone who is going to look out for me and McShame-Palin are not it! The next time he wants to pander he should do it with someone in one of these 50 states who know something about the states and can handle more than one thing at the same time(floods, war, poverty) instead of bashing someone and not talking policy!

Boy, I guess it's easy to keep repeating lines someone told you to say. She is going to be a puppet for McCain's nastiness while he takes the high road now?

Attack dog Palin....community organizers all over this country are listening long and hard at her continual mean comments about their work. Obama raised 10 million dollars in 24 hours after her speech...we will do it again. I hope they make an ad from this and run it over and over again at all community centers. Your God may forgive you for this conduct but the American people won't.

The Obama campaign needs to adjust their plan and include Palin in their speeches. Her insistence that Obama has done nothing besides being a community organizer, a job he had after college and before law school, is outrageous. Did she forget she was a beauty queen and a news reporter? Obama is too respectful to throw that out, but it's tantamount to what she is doing. They need to highlight her lobbyist activities for her small town and also as govenor, her line item vetoes on major issues like women's rights, school issues, health care for children, and bring to the forefront her stand on policies that her campaign is choosing to ignore.

Why don't you talk the notes away and start talking?

I find it interesting that Obama, Biden and McCain will be on Sunday talk shows. Palin will not be on them because she is unprepared.

If she is unprepared to campaign.... how is she prepared to lead the country?

This woman is a fraud. She is a conservative and the farthest thing from a maverick.

Yeah, it was total success, thats why we are still there. The iraqis want us out, we might not have need the surge had we handed over the mess to the iraqis along time ago. THE AMERICAN PEOPLE WANT OUT OF IRAQ..... period.

Keep talking Sarah. Obama might make another 10 million. Plenty to refute your lies. How about the decision to invade Iraq in the first place? Obama was RIGHT. Osama Bin Laden should have been our highest priority. We invaded the wrong country and killed thousands in the process.

I know there is a God and I am praying to him to keep the Republicans from causing this country further harm.

DEMOCRATS DON'T FEAR MCCAIN OR PALIN, IT'S THE ECONOMY WE'RE CONCERNED ABOUT. WE ALSO RECOGNIZE MCCAIN AND PALIN ARE USING SMEAR BECAUSE THAT'S ALL THEY'VE GOT AND WE CAN'T USE IT TO SAVE JOBS, HOUSES, SEND OUR KIDS TO COLLEGE, PUT FOOD ON THE TABLE, BUY HEALTH INSURANCE, PAY HIGH UTILITIES BILLS OR BUY GAS FOR OUR AUTOS, PUT MONEY IN A SAVINGS ACCOUNT OR END THE WAR WHERE WE ARE SPENDING BILLIONS. SMEAR AND FEAR IS ALL MCCAIN AND PALIN HAVE TO OFFER AND THAT'S 4 MORE YEARS OF BUSH.

  16. How are these lies a "clean campaign"?

McCain claims he's running a clean campaign? Doesn't look like it from here.

Obama voted against the war in Iraq - correctly. Of course he voted against the surge – correctly. The surge wasn't successful because of more troops, it was successful due to better intelligence gathering.

They call Palin an attack dog. I have some less charitable words for her when she lauches these ugly, dirty, outright lying attacks.

If I were the Dems, I would not under estimate Palin.

I can't wait for the debates. All Biden is going to do is tout all the Big Government and High Taxes crapola that is suppossed to save us.

    Give me a break!

What does Sarah Palin know about Iraq other than what the Rovians have fed her about it? She wasn't there in Congress for the discussion or vote. All she knows is how to exploit her son being sent there soon (she's good at that with exploiting her pregnant daughter and special needs son, too).

And whatever happened to the separation of church and state with her telling high school students it was the will of g-d for the US to be in Iraq, or wanting to teach creationism in schools. With demands to ban books from the local library and trying to have the Librarian fired for not following her requests sounds like Palin would set this country back about a hundred years!

Keep on talking your nonsense Palin as it only serves to raise more money for Obama's campaign: "Palin's speech pulls in $8 million – for Obama!"

You can not believe anything said in a stump speech, when the media has been told they can not get an interview. History was made last night, a vice president was nominated last night that nobody knows. God help us.

Too bad that John McCain didn't have the good judgment to vote against taking us into Iraq in the first place.

    Or has everyone forgotten that?

all this is is blah, blah, blah. we already know that they would like to stay there at least a hundred years, what else is new. when you go to war on very bad intelligence, and the wrong opponent, that's what we need to concentrate on people. bin laden is doing just fine, and we are no closer to getting him one way or the other. that was never the intent. the intent was to get our hands on the oil in iraq!!!!!!!

    "Reading off notes"

Doesn't this speak volumes. She has to read off notes for a town hall meeting???????????????????? Doesn't know what to say off the cuff or from the heart???? When is the national media going to be able to interview her without TALKING POINTS or TRAINING!!!

If she is ready- than she should have problem giving interviews.

And excuse me Ms. Pitbull, but Mr. Obama was the first and only one to say that we should NEVER go into Iraq for a war.

And get your fact's straight you WOLF KILLER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go hide in a cave like Osama Bin Laden and take Mc-Insane with you!!!

This whole idea that the surge is a success is something that I am not buying. Iraq wants us out of their country and instead of saying we are being booted out, we are saying that HEY EVERYBODY, THE SURGE WORKED, WE CAN LEAVE!!! It is an absolute sham and a joke in my opinion. Speaking of a sham and joke, this lady is turning our election process into a joke. Are we in high school? Is she seriously saying John McCain is a better man? I might differ from McCain on opinions, but I'm not going to say that Obama is the better man, that's extremely rude and crude. She's turning this into a zinger contest and it's dumbing down America. Why doesn't she just start cursing out Obama, that will get a reaction to, and then the poll numbers can reflect her "ability" to lead.

Democrats aren't scared of anything with her, we're just in amazement at how childish she is and can't believe that this childishness is being seen as confidence.
