Palin hammers Obama on Iraq policy

Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin were joined by Mrs. McCain at a campaign stop in Wisconsin.
Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin were joined by Mrs. McCain at a campaign stop in Wisconsin.

CEDARBURG, Wisconsin (CNN) – Sarah Palin took to her attack dog role with gusto on Friday morning, calling John McCain “the only great man in this race” and disparaging Barack Obama’s judgment on the troop surge in Iraq.

Watch: Palin slams Obama on Iraq

Reading off notes, Palin mocked Obama for telling Fox News on Thursday that the surge “has succeeded in ways that nobody anticipated.”

“I guess when you turn out to be profoundly wrong on a vital national security issue, maybe it’s comforting to pretend that everyone else was wrong too,” Palin said, adding that McCain was “the one leader who did predict success.”

The crowd cheered when Palin reprised a pithy line from her convention speech that mocked Obama's professional background.

Watch: Palin: I had "actual responsibilities"

“I guess a small town mayor is sort of like a community organizer only you have actual responsibilities,” she said, responding to critics who accuse her of lacking experience.

Thousands of locals crammed into a picturesque block in this town north of Milwaukee to see the Republican ticket-mates speak. It was a fitting backdrop as Palin offered a Mayberry-esque description of her own home town and small towns everywhere, saying that the people who hail from small towns “love our country in good times and bad, and they are always proud to be an American.”

As was the case at the other Republican rallies she has attended over the last week, Palin’s star power at times seemed to outshine McCain’s. She elicited boos from the crowd as she attacked Obama, and chants of "John McCain! John McCain!" as she lavished praise on the GOP nominee.

“Sarah Palin gives me hope because she’s just like us," said Jim Buss, a voter from the nearby town of Glendale. "If she can be vice president of the United States, any of us can. My daughter can. Prior to that, Washington was elitist. Here’s a regular person going to be the second most powerful person in the world."

McCain was a bit more effusive. He introduced Palin as “the most marvelous running mate in the history of this nation.”

  1. And Afghanistan?

Can she point it out on a map? I wouldn't know. She's never been allowed to speak her own words since one of McCain's own puppeteers attached the strings to her too.

Since McCain doesn't speak for the campaign (they have REALLY said that) and Palin certainly doesn't, you have to wonder who's actually running the show.

The surge was a tactical success, but not a "mission accomplished" success.. and this is what obama said early this year after the state of the union address. Also, the goal of the surge was to engender political unity and progress which is still preciously poised – so much so that the "surge" troops will have to stay a bit longer.. So a tactical success but not a success on its right.. get it!

Oh yeah the war that should have never happened in the first place?
It's funny how now they talk about finishing the job of a war that was a sequel to GWB senior's war. Did he not finish the job? Did he pull out?
This war was a joke part of a secret agenda. Isn't that why so many good republicans retired? Hence, Colin Powell. Why is it that none of the real republicans are support this quack?

  8. GO Obama!

Why isnt she allowed to be interviewed if she is soooo experienced, such a pit-bull and ready to be VP?

What do they need to coach her on?
Does she need practice to answer questions?
Do Reps expect us to believe that if she is not ready for the Media then she will be ready to lead in 2 months?

Something smells rotten in Denmark (Alaska? decaying Moose meat?)

  9. PALIN'S ELECTION STRATEGY

    PALIN'S STRATEGY:

refuse all media interviews (as she is doing) for the next two months so that it will remain unkown that she knows nothing about foriegn or domestic policy, am TOTALLY far right wing in ALL of my views, and couldn't care a less about women's issues and advancement although i'm a woman.

  11. WHEN?

When is she going to do an interview by herself and actually answer all these questions circulating? I bet when she does, she just blames the 'liberal press' and never actually give a truthful answer.

mor focused on state issues, I would have to looki into it"
My what a difference a crash course intalking points can make.
As A woman I am insulted and McCain selecting her and thinking
we are all so stupid we will vote for a wina wgi diesbt even believe in equal pay for woman, ajust one of her many right wing views...not foing to happen just because she is wearing a skirt...

  13. THE WORLD IS WATCHING *HOPE IS COMING

    Hey :Independents For McCain
Hot off the Press: What a difference a week can make
The new data also shows significant increases in the number who say McCain made the right choice and the number who say Palin is ready to be President. Generally, John McCain's choice of Palin earns slightly better reviews than Barack Obama's choice of Joe Biden.

When I first started reading this article I thoght, Wow, Palin has finally given and interview! WRONG, she is just reading off her cue cards giving a speech.
Jim Buss said "Here’s a regular person going to be the second most powerful person in the word."
We had the guy everybody wanted to have beer with leading the free world and look what that got us. Washington used to be elite. And by elite I mean the best. I think that we have lost the true meaning of alot of words. Being elite is not a bad thing. It means that you are the best, better than the rest, ya know, like what America used to be?

I wonder why Palin refuses to meet with the media or answer any questions about policy. Probably because she doesn't know anything.

What a joke this pair is. Did they say anything today on how they will help with the 6.1% unemployment rate? Did they talk about the fact that 1 in 9 American families are behind on their mortgage? Did they talk about inflation rising faster than incomes? Did they talk about how we are wasting 12 billion dollars a month in Iraq so the Iraqis can sell their oil on the open market and accumulate an approximately 80 BILLION dollar surplus? Did they talk about what to do about global warming and the environment? OF COURSE NOT, THEY HAVE ZERO IDEAS ON HOW TO HELP THIS COUNTRY, ALL THEY KNOW IS TO ATTACK A GENUINLY GOOD MAN. How can any of you so called family values people vote for a man who CHEATED on his DISABLED wife with Cindy the Beer baroness ? Also , as the father of a young daughter I am TERRIFIED by this womans stance on abortion. Do you women supporters KNOW what her stance is? It is NO ABORTION EVEN IN THE CASE OF RAPE OR INCEST! Is this the kind of country we want to leave to our country? A country with NO choice for women, a country with a HUGE national debt (owed mostly to the COMMUNIST Chinese), A country who attacks soveirgn nations for all the wrong reasons, and a country where the RICH get RICHER and the rest of us should just be thankful to live off their scraps? I SAY ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Obama had better start hammering back.

Miss Thang is a big girl and if she can hurl the lies and the character attacks at Obama, she's woman enough to take a few in the chin without hiding behind the moniker of "I'm a victim of sexism."

Hillary tried this and we see where it got her - defeated.

Obama made the right judgement because he refused to be a yes-man and approve the Iraq war- the war which has seen over 4000 brothers, sisters, moms and dads dead. But Mccain did approve this war. Palin needs to think for herself not just have the campaign planners do te thinking for her.

Why is McCain not saying anything anymore. She is tough enough to talk about the war but not tough enough to have a one on one interview. Until she agrees to sit down to an interview and allow me an American citizen to hear her in her own words and not mimicking what someone else has said I can't even take her serious. The surge was a success and he is strong enough to admit that now what he and the rest of the country want to know is when we are we leaving and let the Iraqi government take over their own country and use some of that surplus money they have to pay us back.
