Palin hammers Obama on Iraq policy

Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin were joined by Mrs. McCain at a campaign stop in Wisconsin.

CEDARBURG, Wisconsin (CNN) – Sarah Palin took to her attack dog role with gusto on Friday morning, calling John McCain “the only great man in this race” and disparaging Barack Obama’s judgment on the troop surge in Iraq.

Watch: Palin slams Obama on Iraq

Reading off notes, Palin mocked Obama for telling Fox News on Thursday that the surge “has succeeded in ways that nobody anticipated.”

“I guess when you turn out to be profoundly wrong on a vital national security issue, maybe it’s comforting to pretend that everyone else was wrong too,” Palin said, adding that McCain was “the one leader who did predict success.”

The crowd cheered when Palin reprised a pithy line from her convention speech that mocked Obama's professional background.

Watch: Palin: I had "actual responsibilities"

“I guess a small town mayor is sort of like a community organizer only you have actual responsibilities,” she said, responding to critics who accuse her of lacking experience.

Thousands of locals crammed into a picturesque block in this town north of Milwaukee to see the Republican ticket-mates speak. It was a fitting backdrop as Palin offered a Mayberry-esque description of her own home town and small towns everywhere, saying that the people who hail from small towns “love our country in good times and bad, and they are always proud to be an American.”

As was the case at the other Republican rallies she has attended over the last week, Palin’s star power at times seemed to outshine McCain’s. She elicited boos from the crowd as she attacked Obama, and chants of "John McCain! John McCain!" as she lavished praise on the GOP nominee.

“Sarah Palin gives me hope because she’s just like us," said Jim Buss, a voter from the nearby town of Glendale. "If she can be vice president of the United States, any of us can. My daughter can. Prior to that, Washington was elitist. Here’s a regular person going to be the second most powerful person in the world."

McCain was a bit more effusive. He introduced Palin as “the most marvelous running mate in the history of this nation.”

Can [R]s get less clueless?!!! The culturally challenged [R] VP candidate said: “I guess when you turn out to be profoundly wrong on a vital national security issue, maybe it’s comforting to pretend that everyone else was wrong too,” My God, this describes the Bush/McCain approach to spinning the Iraq disaster perfectly. And she actually thinks this describes Obama???!!! You've got to be kidding me. Man, they have left the monkees in charge of the banana store!!

We all know she was feed these words by Rove, but did she take ANY POLICY questions? Nope, she is applying for a job so just as when we apply for a job there is an interview....SHE MUST BE INTERVIEWED.

She cannot just travel around the country reading the Rethugs talking points without speaking out on issues that affect our everyday lives.

Those of you that thinks otherwise are not taking care of your family as you should.

WE SHOULD HAVE NOT GONE TO WAR IN IRAQ-PERIOD.
YES OUR MILITARY IS THE BEST. THEY WERE POORLY LED FOR TOO LONG. NOT ENOUGH SENATORS AND CONGRESSMEN IN EITHER PARTY STOOD UP TO BUSH/CHANEY/RUMSFELD. SHAME ON THE WHOLE BUNCH. WE NEED TO GET OUT NOW. WE SEND OUR SOLDIERS TO WAR AFTER 6 WEEKS OF BOOT CAMP. WE ARE STILL TRYING TO TRAIN IRAQ SOLDIERS TO FIGHT. SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THIS WHOLE MESS. WE NEED TO GET OUT OF A PLACE WE NEVER SHOULD HAVE GONE. AND TOO BAD MCCAIN DID NOT DO MORE SOONER TO STOP THE WAR FROM STARTING. SUPPORTING THE "SURGE" WAS TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE. WHAT TOOK SO LONG TO SEND IN ADEQUATE TROOPS? TOO MANY PEOPLE AT THE TOP PLAYING DEAF, DUMB, AND BLIND. THE MESS IS NOT THE FAULT OF THE WORKING SOLDIERS. ALL IN THE NAME OF OIL FOR CRONY OILMEN. NOW RICE IS PLAYING KISSY FACE WITH KHADAFI-OVER OIL OF COURSE.

When she speaks to the press and explain this trooper situation. She can talk and really to be honest how can she talk about National Security information when she is reading from a card and she has only been out of the country once.

She's starting to sound tiresome already. If McCain was so right about the surge, why has Gen. Petraeus said that our 146,000 troops will have to stay in Iraq until June, with no drawdowns. This was in the news yesterday. So much for the surge. Maybe our soldiers' deaths in Iraq are down, but also in the news yesterday was the very sad truth that our Iraqi veterans are committing suicide at a rate outpacing last year. Sarah, pray for your son a whole lot when he goes there next week. But even more, pray for him when he gets home, whenever that will be.

With the so called energizing of the republican base, how come mccain and his barking chihuahua has not overtaken obama in the polls. I thought that the republicans would be way ahead of obama after the barking chihuahua barked. But Gallup Poll and others still have obama leading even after the republican convention. Ain't they supposed to have the post convention boost?

Mind you, no matter what the polls say, it's gonna be obama by a landslide. I keep saying this to people. MARK MY WORD!!

  11. Integrity of all

If Sarah Palin is going to continue making these types of statements...the Obama camp must attack. She continues to minimize the contributions of community organizers who are fighting injustice, better quality schools, better health care, community parks and better representation in municipal, state and national offices. She was given the opportunity to be evaluated as a solid choice for the VP office, but now it seems as if she was selected to do dirty work for Senator McCain and the RNC.

As an open minded voter...I am somewhat disturbed that the potential for her representation as a Leader of America could be possible. Sarah Palin...stop the negative banter and start pushing John McCain’s policies for a better America. Also, we are pleased that he served our country and Bill Clinton and George Bush did not go and fight a war...Just a reminder that you don't have to fight a War to be President who makes a difference for the citizens of this Country. Just like you don't have to be Political Scientist to be President.....You could be a journalist, attorney, doctor or even a hockey mom. Don't let Politics get in the way of your morals, values and you lose your integrity!

Peace and Prosperity for Obama, McCain, Biden and Palin! I vote for all of you to represent the people and not just the party.

This is a woman who went to 6 schools before getting a bachelors in journalism. If this were a job interview, would you really hire her to be one heart beat away from CEO? At least have a little intellectual curiosity about how she makes decisions, her thought process.

    Hi Jack

    Let's see here

    Obama voted against the war
    McCain voted for the war

A war which took a majority of U.S troops from fighting the terrorists that attacked the U.S on 9/11 and shipped them to Iraq.

So Sarah, who turned out to be profoundly wrong on the MOST vital national security issue?

If Palin is such a great candidate put her out there on her own in front of the media. Not one orignal word from her in a week. Let's hear her talk about Iraq- just a few weeks ago she admitted she knew little on the subject. She needs to prove she isn't a fake.

Intelligence gained through education and how this education is used does matter to a presidential candidate. Let's see - Palin and Obama: Palin enrolled at six colleges to receive a degree in journalism? There just has to be some kind of a story there! Obama graduated from Columbia with honors – went on Harvard and edited the Harvard Law Review and now teaches constitutional law at Univ. of Chicago..........Palin was mayor of a town of 6,700 people, fired several town officials that did not support her as a candidate and tried to remove books from the libraby and fired the librarian when she refused. After a town uproar, she reinstated the librarian who eventually resigned and moved from the town. ............ Obama worked as a COMMUNITY ORGANIZER in Chicago to help less fortunate people get a leg-up.........Palin was elected governor of Alaska, one of our least populated states...........Obamba won election to the Illinois House and then to the US Senate........Palin is against any kind of sex education or family planning and disapproves of abortion for anyone even in case or rape or incest. She does not want the polar bear on the Endangered list as it might upset the "mighty hunters" of Alaska. She dismisses glabal warming as a hoax even when the Alaskan ice is meting right under her nose. She approves of shooting wolves from the air and is a strong advocate and life-long memeber of the IRA...........
Sarah Palin is against everything I believe in and her presidency would set women back a generation.

"Also , as the father of a young daughter I am TERRIFIED by this womans stance on abortion."

LOL!!! Now that's funny. But hey!! She has 2 months to be special...but I have to say, her record is unique to say the least...very unique.

But you know what? Everything I have predicted has come true!! She became a celebrity, the ladies are gonna come after her, she could barely hang in there, etc. I gotta say, I'm too good for this, I'm surprised I haven't been hired, LOL!!!
