Florida Republican group to boycott Oprah

Oprah Winfrey campaigned for Obama in February.

(CNN)-The Florida Federation of Republican Women made the decision to boycott the Oprah Winfrey Show Saturday, after the media mogul refused to have Gov. Sarah Palin as a guest on her show until after the election wraps up.

"Women in Florida helped build Oprah into the icon she is today," Linda Ivell, President of the FFRW said in a statement. "We are deeply disappointed in Ms. Winfrey's decision to sit out the greatest political moment in the history of women since suffrage."

The talk show host denied accusations Friday, that she was even considering the vice presidential nominee as a guest.

"At the beginning of this presidential campaign when I decided that I was going to take my first public stance in support of a candidate, I made the decision not to use my show as a plat for any of the candidates," Winfrey wrote in a statement, responding to a story from The Drudge report claiming her staff was "sharply divided" on whether they should book the Alaska Governor.

Winfrey agreed Palin would be a "fantastic interview," but wouldn't invite her on until after the November elections.

The Florida Federation of Republican Women, the "largest political organization in Florida," celebrating the groups 58 year anniversary is also encouraging members to cancel subscriptions to O Magazine, Ivell said.

"We find it to be an abuse of her power -gained on the backs of our patronage of her advertising empire – to use her program to so blatantly support Obama in the face of this historic moment. So, we are tuning out and canceling our subscriptions to O Magazine and encourage other women to do the same," Ms Ivell said.

Winfrey came under fire from some of her supporters in December after campaigning with the Democratic nominee in South Carolina.

Ivell did not say the Florida Republicans would be tuning out indefinitely, but at least until 'after the election.' Adding, she and her members respect the decision to support Obama, "as every American is entitled to their personal opinion and vote."

I doubt Oprah cares. There are plenty of Democrats who would be happy to get a ticket to her show. Actually Oprah should ask Sarah on the show to allow all those "hockey moms" out there to see that Sarah is a big blow hard! I am sure McCain would prefer she stay hidden on the side lines anyway. Why do you think McCain's camp isn't letting Sarah grant interviews?Because she has no clue what is going on in the real world. She has Alaska brain freeze.

I don't think that its a problem for Oprah, she can have anyone she wants on her show! And if someone on the republican side wants to go on her show, then why not have the REPUBLICAN WHO'S RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT, JOHN MCCAIN, i think?!

What really small minded women they are. Why don't we just saw off florida and let it drift out to sea. Won't be missed much. Elections should go smoother as well.

Puh-leeze women. Get a grip! Oprah already explained that she is not having political guests on the show, even though she has endorsed Obama, but she never had him as a guest after he announced his candidacy. Stop being so petty and sensitive - you are giving all us women a bad name, and there's no need for your boycotts or anything else. Believe me, this woman (Palin) is not home crying about it - she's busy making up more insults, sarcastic, mocking remarks about her opponents, and embellishments about her accomplishments, or lack thereof. I still cannon get over the women of the world, or the self-proclaimed Evangelicals, admiring a women filled with so much bad will, hatred and vitriol toward others, and no problem whatever expressing it. Such hypocrisy - but that certainly seems to be the Republican way, thanks to the McCain campaign managers and staff. I hope all this ugliness comes back to bite them in November and that we, the people, see through it!!!

If the party was strong in their belief in a person they would know a t.v. show appearence would not cause a win or loss.
    Just another ploy of control

See, this is how the GOP works. Start up some lies, fuel the fire a little, and the next thing you know Florida Republican women, who probably don't watch Oprah anyway are boycotting her show, and it makes the national news, outrage abounds, and on we go. This is how they win elections. It's called smoke and mirrors, and roughly half of us are still stupid enough to fall for it. Then we all lose.

the difference between women and blacks is that women 'STAY BITTER'. As a white male, I think Barack is much more deserving than this small town mayor turned governor. Women will eventually show that Geraldine Ferraro was more deserving than this redneck unfit mother who is pretty much abandoning her kids to her husband who knows fish???

If the Republican Party wants free press why they don't call for a press conference with all media without any restrictions, that way Sara Palin can answer all questions not just the ones they want. Forget Oprah let the press to interview her.

The women's suffrage movement would need to reunite if McCain/Palin were elected. These two have less in common with women than any others in the human race much less in the race for president. Aren't Republican women in Florida secessionists, too?

    Oprah,

Don't let them bully you. That's what they're use to doing. They probably don't even watch your show anyway. Anyone who would fall for the same old bag of lies over and over again probably does not watch a show that encourages thought.

Your show should be exactly where it is...out of it.

By the way Republicans account for 90% of the National Debt. The party of fiscal responsibility? And most of it happened under John McCain's watch. WHAT A JOKE!!

Repugs are all talk. Check out the numbers at the Office of Management and Budget for yourself. I know the Dems will. The Repugs are sheep. They don't want to know the truth.

One other thing: I think John McCain has rhumatoid arthritis. He looks like he is in pain every time he moves. I don't think the old man will hold up for 4 years.

Oh silly liberals... You all claim to be so universal and accepting of everyone..."love, peace, harmony" However, it's interesting that you only care about the advancement of different genders and races when they support your views. That's really all it's about. Secretary Rice is too white they say, Palin should be taking care of her kids they say...how stupid do you think we conservatives are? Well, I would say it's time for you all to admit the absolute truth that you really only care about those who share your far left extremist views and could care less about seeing the less represented get ahead.

My goodness, it seems that many people are having difficulties thinking for themselves. Simply repeating whatever the Obama campaign handlers come out and say. And frankly, Oprah was made wealthy because at-home, middle-aged women found her to be interesting and flocked to buy everything she pushed. Oprah is making a comment by her "categorically untrue" comment. Any thinking individual understands that ... ummmm ... maybe she thinks everyone is stupid!!!!
