Sen. Obama mocked the McCain-Palin ticket for casting themselves as mavericks.
Sen. Obama mocked the McCain-Palin ticket for casting themselves as mavericks.

TERRE HAUTE, Indiana (CNN) – Since leaving their convention in St. Paul, Minnesota, John McCain and Sarah Palin have tried to cast themselves as mavericks, Washington outsiders, the real agents of change.

Barack Obama isn’t buying it and wants the label for himself.

“Everywhere I go we’ve been talking about change, that’s been the theme of this campaign,” Obama told supporters in a show barn in Indiana. “And we must be on to something, because I notice now everyone’s talking about change now.”

Watch: Obama jokes he's never been to Alaska

“Suddenly [McCain’s] the change agent!” Obama laughed. “He says, “I’m going to tell those lobbyists that their days of running Washington are over.” Who’s he going to tell? Is he going to tell his campaign chairman who’s one of the biggest corporate lobbyists in Washington? Is he going to tell his campaign manager who was one of the biggest corporate lobbyists in Washington? Is he going to tell all the folks who are running his campaign who are the biggest corporate lobbyists in Washington?”

“Who is it that he’s going to tell that change is coming?” he added, “I mean come on, they must think you’re stupid!”

Obama said Thursday that he’ll focus on McCain because he’s running against McCain and not his running mate Sarah Palin. But Saturday Obama singled out Palin for the first time for flip-flopping on earmarks while governor of Alaska.

“She is a skillful politician,” said Obama, “but when you’ve been taking all these earmarks when it is convenient and then suddenly you’re the champion anti-earmark person, that is not change, come on. I mean, words mean something. You can’t just make stuff up. You can’t just make stuff up.”

The McCain campaign shot back saying that Obama is all talk.

“Barack Obama has requested the equivalent of one million dollars in new pork barrel spending for every working day he's been in the U.S Senate,” wrote McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds in an e-mail to reporters. “While John McCain has never once asked for an earmark, and Governor Palin has vetoed hundreds of millions in government spending including killing the infamous 'bridge to nowhere'.

When a former Republican asked the Illinois senator if he would welcome ‘converts’ like him, Obama took the opportunity to accuse McCain of hypocrisy.

“I have to say, when John McCain says in his [acceptance] speech that he wants to reduce the rancor in Washington and I’m thinking, did you pay attention to the last two days of your convention?” Obama chuckled, “were you not watching? Did they not get the memo?”

“When it starts getting personal, when you start just focusing exclusively on trying to tear the other person down instead of what you are going to do on behalf of the American people to deal with this economy, then that’s not serving Democrats, that’s not serving Republicans, that’s not serving anybody.”

To Barbara in NC above:
Strangely enough, we received letters this morning from our election officials (we are very rural in this voting district) that due to space limitations and expected turnout on Nov. 4, they are moving our polling site 16 miles away from the old one so they can accomodate the expected voter turnout. Yay!

Keep going, Obama, do NOT let them get away with lies and no plans to help us regular people.

Patricia Burlage   September 6th, 2008 4:19 pm ET

I wish Sarah would talk about her views such as: anti abortion even in cases of rape and incest, teaching abstinence only in school, she fought against putting the polar bear on the endangered list, believes that humans have NOT contributed to global warming, supports teaching creationism in school, and is obviously against separation of church and state since she would like to allow prayer in school. It seems she doesn't believe in anything that is actually scientific.Maybe if people knew where she stands they could make a more informed choice. I believe she will help to bring us backward, especially women.

Dill   September 6th, 2008 4:19 pm ET

Where are the jobs! Mr. McCain, you have served the country for 26 years, WHAT DID YOU DO WITH THE JOBS? Where are our American jobs going?

"So sambo beat the b_tch" that was Palin's response when she found out about the outcome of the DNC primaries. Google it.

Palin can fabricate her "agent of change" story and market herself as a reformer but the record is clear if the media chooses to report it. Palin was for the bridge to nowhere before she was against it, worked with lobbyists to secure earmarks for her po-dunk town and then left it in debt anyway, has a history of abuse of power and lied about a small details such as how she sold the Govenor's plane.

I'd love to see a women as VP or President but she's not the one.

jackson   September 6th, 2008 4:18 pm ET

Awww. Barry's hitting back. OUch. Ouch.
One of those earmarks Gov. Palin got for her town were on TV the other night: a new community center. It was a great use of federal funds. She also got money for sewers. That kind of "earmark" is always what that program has been about.

The only change McCain has offered is to keep changing his mind and campaign strategy everytime he figures out how bad it is going.
The only change we will see from Palin is that everything she has said is now being investagated and vetted and as change would have it She Lies about almost everything. She was a Mayor of a small town of 5000 when she started and she did very little as she was caught in too many suspicious firings and the town stood up and made her have an administration that had to approve all her decisions.Read all about it. Just Google Anne Kilkenny.Palin is a joke and overstated her experience more then any other politician ever has and as time go's on there will be more truth about all of her lies. For those of you that findit difficult, close your eyes and remember what she says then fact check it and 90% of the time it is a lie or overstated. She does match the 90% of Bush McCain policies.

Republicans think we are stupid? How about you think we are stupid? You [Obama] flip floper haven't done much since you are a U.S Senator, you spent almost half of those times running for President, and when you were Senator, you voted 163 times present just to protect your political career. Tell me Obama, how can I hand the future of this country to you when you can't even vote "yes" or "no", with no executive experience and just that motor mouth of yours not going to get my vote!

Roger   September 6th, 2008 4:17 pm ET

Hey Mike, McCain is no longer a maverick!. In his own words on tape he said he voted in line with bush. That's no maverick, that's a pupet! Former Dem Mike? hey, will let you come back from the dark side.

Jen, Gainesville   September 6th, 2008 4:17 pm ET

MSNBC called the McCain campaign out for the lies. Please watch the "MSNBC TV" collection on the web. I had high hopes for McCain in January, thinking that this will finally be a civil debate between two great men about issues. The reality is disgusting. Either McCain is too old, or he think the American public is too stupid.

We need a credible "EMT" immediately for our ECONOMY, our HEALTHCARE system, to end the WAR immediately, to fix the broken SOCIAL SECURITY system, to immediately REPAIR OUR GLOBAL standing, and to fix our EDUCATION system.

Not an easy job. Not easy to be qualified. Not easy to have the discipline to have the bigger picture. But EASY to understand that if we don't vote on ISSUES, our entire lifestyles will be SEVERELY HURT. Your entire savings and pensions depend on your researching the ISSUES.

When you look at the ISSUES every Ameican is concerned about, McCain and Palin are no where near the level of competence required to work well on any of these issues. With McCain voting the same as George Bush 95% of the time, there is NO WAY he's representing 'CHANGE'. He is representing a lie.

I'm in no way willing to take the chance on McCain that the 5% of the time that he wasn't taking the George Bush road will be for anything substantial to help this country. Too much is at stake, McCain blew his chance when he voted with George Bush repeatedly 95% of the time.

Jerad Howell   September 6th, 2008 4:17 pm ET

Is Obama really that arrogant to think that he has a monopoly on change? The fact is, McCain was always known as a maverick in the Republican party. That is, until he got the nomination and the Obama people started trying to say he was Bush III. It's funny that people will ignore McCain's record of being a progressive, moderate Senator just because Obama says so.

So lets see two of our best presidents with very little experience, and lets look at some people with a ton of experience, Nixon, he was around for 2 decades, know he did a knock up job didn't he. Experience can help, judgment and integrity I think speak as loudly if not louder. McCain leaves his wife, for another woman, flys around in private jets, uses his POW status like a pimp. Read about history my friend.... not all with experience have it figured out.... give Barack another think....

It's common for politicians copy each other's lines, but what McCain has been doing is so blatantly copying practically ANYTHING that was originated by Obama. McCain decided that they want a "historiy making" candidate since Obama is one, so they whip out Palin. Then all of a sudden McCain/Palin are "change agents" when it's been Obama's slogan for 20 months, What's next?

The only thing I have heard that is truth that came out of Palin's mouth is that she is pitbull. Apparently, she is so overly aggressive that she will mow down anything that comes in her way of getting what she wants, that if you do no agree with her, she takes it personally and will make you pay and her ambition lies above and beyond her family and her integrity. Is this what America wants to lead this country? Give me a break.

Maestroh   September 6th, 2008 4:16 pm ET

How can any thinking person say Obama is an 'agent of change' when – as Palin pointed out – the man has written TWO memoirs but sponsored ZERO legislation – including the entire two years the Democrats have run Congress?

This 'agent of change' picks a Washington insider of 30 years – and says he's still about change?

I also see Democrats are starting to whine about attacks (funny how they never call them 'attacks' when they do it, though). Is it the attack that bothers them?

Or the fact the attack might cause them to lose?

Bennie G   September 6th, 2008 4:16 pm ET

Obama needs to watch what he says about Palin. It will come back to haunt him. I am a Hillary Democrat and am still considering how I will vote. Obama is quickly losing my confidence with these types of attacks.

McCain believes that Palin will give him the advantage to win some of Hillary supporters; however. democratic party women are smarter than this desperate attempt for McCain's last chance to run for the Presidency.

Annette, Washington, DC   September 6th, 2008 4:16 pm ET

Thed Weller   September 6th, 2008 4:16 pm ET

I'm watching CNN...while McCain/Palin are repeating the "clap lines" from the RNC, Obama just had a press confernce about the US planned bail out of Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac. Hmmm, let's see, which sounds like the activities of a Future President?

merm   September 6th, 2008 4:16 pm ET

Well at least Sarah Palin realized she was wrong to like them in the first place – of course, Obama has never seen an earmark he didn't like. It takes a Stong person (WOMAN in this instance) to change and do what's right – Obama refuses to admit he was wrong about the surge. Keep talking BO – and reminding us all just how much you like earmarks and pork spending – you are turning into the Republican's 2nd best weapon, behind Sarah, of course.

Jerry Thomas Burleigh, in Gilbert, Arizona   September 6th, 2008 4:16 pm ET

Leimomi Matunding   September 6th, 2008 4:15 pm ET

After watching the Republican GOP I was totally turned off by statements from Sara Palin.

I am from Juneau Alaska, we all watch her make incredible untrue statements like: selling the jet on Ebay which was not true. The State of Alaska Government pulled the lame jet off Ebay because it was not selling.

The "Bridge to now where." Sara Palin supported the Bridge to nowhere when she ran for Governor of Alaska!

Sara Palin is not kidding anyone in Alaska. She can decieve her supporters in the lower 48, because they do not know her.

Sara Palin running of the mouth. She is not a Barracuda what so ever, I find her dysfunctional in her words, as a person and as a woman.

She is not a friend of mine!

The Artful Dodger   September 6th, 2008 4:15 pm ET

McCain is right. Americans ARE stupid. Half of them seem ready to vote for a third Bush administration, and more than half voted for Bush's re-election, even though we were mired in an immoral war and already in the throes of an economic disaster in the making. Many Americans seem to be fooled by the Palin fiasco. They don't read history, don't understand the context of our international dilemmas, and are easily swayed by the "patriotic" vitriol of Republicanism. Those who say McCain is different than Bush fail to realize that he will keep the same basic people in the administration if he is elected. that's why they call them administrations. He'll change a few people at the top, but most of the administration that has served up the last several years of agony will remain. And Americans will have only themselves to blame for their misery.

A   September 6th, 2008 4:15 pm ET

Obama is inexperienced and calls himself the change agent – maybe true, but he avoids though votes, has not started / co started a piece of legislation and does not work across party lines. And what does he do? Pick Joe Biden, one of the oldest Washington insiders. Democrats will ruin this country even more. Look at congress – 9% approval rating!

You say you would be worried if Palin in VP, but what about Obama? Palin and Obama have about the same amount of experiance. A question: why do you support Obama? Do you actually know where he stands on the issues? Did you see Obama's performance at the Saddleback forum? He dodged questions and avoided giving straight answers whenever possible. Don't give me this **** about McCain violating the cone of silence. Its a bunch of **** and you know it.

What nerve all you Obama suporters have for attacking McCain. Why is it the only thing you can say is McCain is Bush? Why, because that's all you can think of. Oh, and by the way, it isn't true. You fail to realize McCain has been bringing change to Washington for years. He regularly works across party lines and often goes against his own party. If Obama is elected he will be the most liberal, inexperianced president in American history who will refuse to work across party lines.

One final question: Would you still like Obama if he was the Republican and McCain was the Democrat? Answer: no – this election is all about the party brand. Get over it, and vote McCain.

Obama couldn't have said it any better "Republicans must think we're stupid". Lets not forget McCain voted with Bush 90% of the time, this means during Bush's 8 years in office John McCain supported his decisions 90% of the time. NOT 30%, NOT 60 %, but 90% of the time McCain thought George Bush made the correct decisions while in office.

In the words of Barack Obama, "Republicans must think we're stupid".

Just because you don't like the George Bush speaks, doesn't mean we should vote for someone who speaks really well, but has done next to nothing.

RA Crouch, Michigan   September 6th, 2008 4:14 pm ET

I am so glad this subject is addressed. I thought the McCain Palin ticket was trying to usurp Obama’s theme of change message but I am seeing the SAME thing going on as I have seen for the last 16 years. In McCain’s attempt to run on Obama’s theme, McCain has demonstrated that he has not had one unique idea in this campaign.

“Ms. Palin, after pledging for weeks that she would cooperate with the investigation, has in recent days begun to challenge the Legislature’s jurisdiction in the inquiry.” NYT 6 SEP 08 “The increasingly adversarial relationship between the lawmakers supervising the inquiry and Ms. Palin’s office stands in sharp contrast with the spirit of cooperation she had promised to bring to the inquiry, even as she questioned the need for an outside investigator.” NYT 6 SEP 08

After 8 years of Clintons and 8 years of Bushes are we supposed to be use to politicians claiming executive privilege to avoid testifying against themselves? Palin’s actions are not CHANGE—just more of the SAME.

Cindy from NC   September 6th, 2008 4:14 pm ET

Now they bring you Palin, a female Bush, more of the same religious extremism in a soft fluffy fake-"moderate" package. She's an "average person" just like Bush.

Jesus, the GOP is a pack of rats and full of lies.

Florida Voter   September 6th, 2008 4:12 pm ET

Has anyone notice that Senator Obama has been leading the republicans around by the nose. Between Bush and McPimp they have been standing still and reacting to Senator Obama.

1. Strike on Taliban stronghold in the mountains.

2. Beef up fighting force in Afgan war

3. High level talks with enemies

4. Diplomatic answer to Georgia/Russia

And now McPimp wants to change something. The only thing he has been changing lately is his positions. Flip-Flopper.

Senator Obama has been leading from the very start, and now McPOW wants to try to pull everyone together. I would be funny if it was not so serious.

Be Afraid, America   September 6th, 2008 4:12 pm ET

Global warming causing increasingly harmful natural disasters ... 6.1% unemployment ... job losses for the eighth straight month in a row ... sky-high gas prices ... millions forced out of their homes by foreclosure ... reduced funds for student loans ... failing banks and financial institutions ... over 4000 American lives lost in Iraq ... over 30,000 wounded ... Guantanamo Bay ... outsourced jobs ... Walter Reed Medical Center ... inflation ... Katrina ... 46 million Americans without health care ... including 8 million children ... nearly $10 TRILLION national debt ...

And still, inexplicably, over 40% of Americans want to do it again.

If you are supporting the Republicans because of "fiscal conservativism" or "small government," you're deluding yourself. Take a look at the numbers.

If you are supporting the Republicans because of the "war on terrorism," think about whether "foreign policy" means anything OTHER than "bomb 'em."

If you are supporting the Republicans because of "social values," ask yourself if any of the above are going to be solved by a ban on abortion or gay marriage.

If you are supporting the Republicans because you're still mad about the "Hillary thing," recognize that, come January, you WILL be living under McCain's policies or under Obama's. In January, whose policies do you want to live under?

We are a smart people. THINK before you vote.

Palin is an extreme on a lot of issues. It's so sad that the party with morals and values actually don't have any!

Tracy   September 6th, 2008 4:12 pm ET

Obama is at the top of the ticket and he has not been in Washington a long time. Biden gets him around through Washington. McCain has been in Washington in 26 years. The top of the ticket is not change on the Republican side. Palin is the sidekick 3.0 of Bush. Miss Earmark USA. SHae up their bank accounts and dirty laundry.

“The republican party is the only party that can fix the damage that its party done” … that’s the best quote I’ve heard. every ones real opinion will not be talked about pertaining to Palin I can blog all day long and try to have a voice like yesterday...90% of the blogs on CNN said they did not like anything that was said at GOP including Palins speech but I guess the media owes her one?

How come this isn’t news? How come the news didn’t report what people really thought of all the speeches? That they weren’t well received at all but you took all the blogs off from your site…I guess you owe her a few free bees to keep her in the media…everone knows it was a good speech “in that hall" and that’s it.
Not one speech I heard from the GOP spoke to the America I know and the news media knows it. Can someone tell me who decides what news should be reported? I'd love to give my opinion and it be talked about Why don’t you talk about this poll on larry king and CNN

I;m afraid to say the public is stupid. We seem to know more about celebrities and personalities than we do about issues that affect our very lives. We were dumb enough to vote in Bush again, put up with torture, ignore supoenas from congress, out a CIA agent , on and on. and still no outrage. But it;s over now.Palin will be toast before the end of september. It's ironic that a gossip news outlet like the Enquirer put away Gary Hart and John Edwards will now do the same to Palin.

Rob, Charlotte, North Carolina   September 6th, 2008 4:12 pm ET

Bravo Obama!

We will not be duped again. McCain and Palin are frauds. They are cut from the same cloth as Bush and Cheney. They will only continue the downward spiral of our country and threaten our national security with incompetence and a bellicose stance.

Larry in MI   September 6th, 2008 4:12 pm ET

Amen. Not only can we [Americans] be stupid, we can be just plain idiotic.

It's high time that we start demanding accountability from our leaders. It is OUR responsibility to educate ourselves as to what's going on. I care more about John McCain's voting record over the past 8 years than I do about a paternity test on Maury Povich.

FINALLY, I DEMAND THAT THE MEDIA NOT BE BULLIED BY THE REPUBLICANS AND DO YOUR JOBS!!!! IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO ASK THE TOUGH QUESTIONS. STAND UP!!!!!

CNN, please post this

john   September 6th, 2008 4:12 pm ET

ENOUGH of the GOP lies!!!! GO OBAMA hit em hard!

gene   September 6th, 2008 4:12 pm ET

The RNC was the platform where the Repubs were supposed to share their ideas with the country. What policies did they share? Drill now baby and Obama is a bad man. That was the extent of them sharing ideas.

What makes me laugh is how everyone waved their flags and cheered every slander and sneer. These people represent the worst of what America has to offer.. and world opinion of us being at its lowest is proof of that.

Another thing that makes me laugh is how many republicans feel that our place amongst the rest of the world is not important... that because they're not Americans that their opinions shouldn't matter. This is exactly the reason why we're losing our soldiers while the rest of the world sits back and watches.. they don't want to help a nation that's seen right now as imperialistic. We need the rest of the world to cooperate with us to achieve national security.. and repubs just don't get it! Who's going to keep this country safe?

H. Charles   September 6th, 2008 4:11 pm ET

Hey Renee,

Watch Obama's interview with Bill O'Reilly and you'll see that he does admit that the surge worked. But after the republicans spent almost a trillion dollars on the war. After you do some reading and educate yourself, come on back and say something that makes sense.

Greg FL.   September 6th, 2008 4:11 pm ET

Palin is a joke. It's a joke being played by McCain. She is nothing more then a gimmick to help save McCain's campaign. He must be laughing to himself at night. He thinks so little of the US public he didn't even bother to vette this women. So much for country first. It's John McCain first.

Jeffrey   September 6th, 2008 4:11 pm ET

I am sick of all this talk of McCain being a maverick! He changed most of his positions and fell in line with the Bush administration after Bush defeated him in the primaries. Bush & Co. dragged McCain through the mud & McCain simply bent over and let them have their way with him. Maverick...!? To me, that's being a wimp! And McCain's "Country First" theme...give me a break! Here's a guy who switched all his positions, ideals, and principals just to keep his political career going! This is the same guy who contacted John Kerry about being his running mate!

McCain is a hypocrite & Palin is a joke. If this country elects them to continue on the destructive path we've been on for 8 years, then I guess the US deserves whatever they ask for.

OBAMA...change for the better. McCain...change for whatever's best for himself...at the time.

Rick   September 6th, 2008 4:11 pm ET

Can someone explain to me what Obama has done that makes him the "agent of change"??Talking about it?? Or just because he started talking about it, he owns the word "change"??
To top it off, he goes ahead and picks the worst possible running mate who is anything but change..`35 years in the do nothing senate..
Obama never took on his party one single time..that shows he is a spineless politician who just got lucky by exploiting the "change" theme

Elenadia from New york   September 6th, 2008 4:11 pm ET

Lol! Now its McCain who has the britnay/celeb problem.

How does it feel, McCain to be 72 years old, finally picked by your party and to be thoroughly upstaged by your own "celeb candidate"

Lol, nobody would bother going to your appearances if not for her. When she goes back to Alaska next week, lets see McCain's crowd counts.

Oh, OK, he'll probably cancel public appearances and go fundraising among the conservatives and right wing extremists until she gets back.

The old Romans used to give the people bread and circuses to keep them voting the right way. The Republicans just give us circuses and keep the bread for themselves.

Also – it's not as though Obama is the first presidential candidate to speak of change. Is he somehow trying to convince us that he owns the philosophy of change? Please.

Hey CNN – where's the story of the discarded flags from the DNC? Way to have a "green convention" – toss 12,000 american flags into the local landfill.

Your female version has surfaced( CNN, Please post this)!   September 6th, 2008 4:11 pm ET

Obama,
When you look at Sarah I'm sure you see your female version (only white) don't you? You know you should not talke about McCain. You are talking about change what did you change in Chicago when you were senator? Oh yes, vote 130 times present. That is a good change from actually working and making a decision on issues. And since you've been in Washington what change? Oh yes, run for president, that is a good change from actually going to Washington to work for the people who elected you.

So you're in no position to talk about others claim to change. Do you now own change? I could take you on with just a few facts. I'm not one of the coolaid drinking dumb fools. Americans are stupid, yes, because they have allowed a lightweight like you to be a standard bearer. Did you not come to prominance based on star power, and love from the media? Well, meet your double only this time she is female and I'm sure you still have scars from Hillary to know females do not let you get away with it easily.

I AM GLAD MCCAIN PICKED PALIN. Women of America, your last chance for the next four years to have a woman as #2 in Washington, seize your chance. VOTE McCain/Palin.

Thank you, Obama. Take it to them. The mish mash of messages that the Republics are trying to send - we're change... but we've been there 30 years; we're for energy independence ... but we have voted for oil and done nothing for 30 years; we're against evil lobbyists ... but our campaign is run by them and Palin lived at the trough; we are all for reaching across the aisle... but we ran a mean-spirited, personal attack oriented convention.

There words mean nothing - all of it is mis-representation of Obama and falsehoods about themselves. It truly makes me naseated. If they would make their case clearly - and then honestly dissect Obama - i would be fine. But that isn't what they are doing.

For me, the conventions were the message. The democrats were respectful of their opponents; the republicans were condescending, caustic, personal and mean-spirited. Which one is the change we need? Which one holds promise for reaching across the aisle?

Tom from Vienna   September 6th, 2008 4:10 pm ET

"...come on. I mean, words mean something. You can’t just make stuff up. "

[What about working with your opponent to take public financing.]

"Obama said Thursday that he’ll focus on McCain..."

[But, I thought Obama was going to focus on the issues. ]

"he added, 'I mean come on, they must think you’re stupid!'"

Change in his pocket. Changing his mind. Obama is a real change agent.

McCain: Yes, we should have.

dgent   September 6th, 2008 4:10 pm ET

You're right, Mr. Obama. Words do mean something. And the simple fact of the matter is that I trust John McCain more than you. You have the nerve to call out someone for changing their position and call it flip-flopping? Sir, your party and yourself have the patent on that. But, again, Sarah Palin has everyone talking about everything other than yourself. Amazing to me that the Democratic Party is darn near blowing a slam dunk election. Nice job, keep talking!

COME ON, MR. OBAMA, HOW CAN YOU CLAIM THAT IT IS ONLY YOU AND YOU ALONE (NOT EVEN SEN. CLINTON IS GOOD ENOUGH TO BE COMPARED TO YOU) WHO CAN BRING ABOUT CHANGE WHEN YOU DO NOT HAVE AN EXECUTIVE RECORD TO SUPPORT YOU, AND THE ONLY AVAILABLE RECORD IS YOUR VOTING RECORD IN THE SENATE, WHEN 80% OF THE TIME, THE VOTES THAT YOU CAST ON THE MOST IMPORTANT LAWS ARE PRESENT OR NOT VOTING (NEITHER YES OR NO), SIMPLY BECAUSE IT IS EITHER YOU CANNOT DECIDE BECAUSE YOUR CHARACTER AND INTENTIONS ARE BASED ON POLITICAL EXPEDIENCIES, OR THAT YOUR VOTE MIGHT NOT BE POPULAR OR YOU SIMPLY CANNOT DECIDE ON WHAT IS RIGHT AND WRONG, AND EVERY DECISION YOU HAVE MADE, IS MAKING AND WILL MAKE WILL DEPEND NOT ON YOUR VALUES BUT ON WHAT IS POPULAR.

ALL YOUR FANS REALLY FEEL THAT YOU ARE THE ONE, YOU ARE GOD SENT, YOU ARE THE SAVIOUR OF THE WORLD'S PROBLEMS. MR. OBAMA, YOU CANNOT EVEN ADMIT WHAT KIND OF SPIRITUAL ADVISOR YOU HAD FOR TWENTY YEARS, UNTIL YOU HAD TO DISOWN HIM (HE WHO WAS FAMILY AND SPIRITUAL MENTOR TO YOU) AGAIN ...... Obama says spend more money that is his economic plan, for Government to waste more of your money on things like another economic stimulus, how can he look at the jobs number and say that the last one worked?

Stimulate the JOB MARKET not the average person's wallet, you cannot spend your way out this time!

The Government cannot create an economy by extending more credit, wake up! America is not broken, the economy is not broken, THE CREDIT MARKET IS BROKEN! Everything comes from that and Obamas plan is to spend more by taking out a loan on the future.

We are in trouble because of over-spending, individually and as a country.

Time to stop spending, everyone has to tighten their belts, especially the Government.

McCain would rather lose a war to win the election.

He proved that with his VP pick out of desparation.

McCain, you sir, are not a Maverick. A maverick chooses who he wants for his VP and not listen to Karl Rove and his dogs to tell you how to win. They talked you out of choosing Liberman and the others on your short list. I thought a Maverick holds his own.

You sir, is not a maverick. Niether is your running mate.

OCTOBER SURPRISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yellowdoggie   September 6th, 2008 4:08 pm ET

Of course the McCain/Palin dog and pony show thinks we're stupid. We somehow let Bush into office, and then in 2004 he was reelected, even though the Iraq war was a disaster and the Repubs were foreced to use fear tactics.

Now Cheney is all puffed up about Russia and they're doing it again. "Elect McCain if you want to keep America safe." It makes me sick. That old man has nothing but bluster to offer, and as for that painted, gun-totin' granny Palin, give me a break. She's a fraud.

Obama-Biden 08

John   September 6th, 2008 4:08 pm ET

What exactly has Obama ever done to suggest he represents change? Select a 6-term senator as his running mate? He played the Chicago politics game for years and hung-out with some of the most unsavory characters this city has to offer. More importantly, he has never crossed party lines once on any issues of substance - that's how you become ranked as the most liberal senator in America. Lastly, don't you find it amusing that he is battling Sarah Palin on the experience issue and not McCain, his primary competition at the top of the ticket? The country is growing increasingly tired of Obama's speeches and empty promises, and it's starting to reflect in the poll numbers.

Howie   September 6th, 2008 4:08 pm ET

How can you be for change if you select a "good old Boy" for VP that has been in Washington for years and years who is a part of the problem, change, hmmmmmmmmm

ZYEDCO D   September 6th, 2008 4:08 pm ET

Mom In Monroe   September 6th, 2008 4:08 pm ET

Yet so many people hang on to his every word. Come on people, think for yourselves – that's the real change we need! Don't let the media, and Obama, do your thinking for you. They are the ones who believe you're stupid! And you only prove it by buying into everything they say!

Kudos to Senator Barack Obama. I was a "HUGE" supportor of Hillary Clinton, but I will support and stand by Senator Obama as if it were Senator Clinton. He is the change that Americans have been waiting a long time to stand up to Washington and I know he will not let us down. If McCain really "is" about change, then why has "he" not accomplished some significant change in all the time he has been in office as a Senator? We need new blood in Washington to make serious changes, and Senator Obama is the person who I believe will do just that.

Thank you Barack. We are not stupid like Palin and McCain think.

McCain has insulted America with his pick of Palin.
And Palin has insulted America with her lies about reform and her lies about her experience in Alaska.

We can see, read, and hear truth in Obama's positive message and will vote for Obama and a better America on Nov 4th.

Corey Gillingham   September 6th, 2008 4:06 pm ET

Obama has begun to speak like a man who is getting nervous – almost afraid, and he has good reason to be. As a Democrat myself I still have to applaud McCain for his bold, historic and brilliant choice. Say what you will, Sara Palin is firing up not only the Republican Party but American politics in general. Obama should have chosen Hillary – a catastrophic error which we all have to soon acknowledge. I can now see that we are very likely bound to lose to this new, maverick team. McCain has never looked nor sounded so good. He is completely invigorated by the excitement Palin has created and it shows in everything they have done together since her announcement. They will be a VERY tough team to beat and I have to say that if they win I wont be as sorry as I previously thought. For the first time in an American election we have two fasinating opponents – very closely matched in experience and wisdom. I wont be sorry now if McCain wins with this amazing woman by his side.

The sight of Rudy Gulliani snickering attempt to trivialize community organizing was a particularly nauseating sight (among many at the RNC Convention). As mayor, his disorganizational style contributed to the loss of life at the WTC (while being particularly adroit at organizing a cover-up of his use of city resources to hide his adulterous behavior). He ran the most disorganized presidential campaign since Pat Paulsen. These hypocrites are like tics sucking on the blood of the left side of the bell curve. They have no shame. They have no conscience.

If Palin is so smart, why won't she come out and face the press?

According to McCain campaign spokesman Tucker Bounds, "Gov. Palin was fully vetted as previously described and we are no longer commenting on the vetting process, She was selected, is qualified and is ready to serve."

Apparently being"qualified" and "ready to serve" doesn't mean answering questions and defending her record and positions and the party platform.

Why is Sarah not answering any question?
Why is she off limits to the Media?
Why is McBush camp covering up for her?
Why is not not going out on her own?

Answers I came up with
Because she doesn't know anything
Becuase she is smart in only Alaska
Because they know, if she supported most of Obama ideas
Becuase no one would go out to hear only McBush!

Barack was question from day one!
Barack was put on the spot many times!
Barack friends and pastor were on TV everyday for 3 months
Barack was beat up time and time again by the media

Media, do your job! Question this woman! She doesn't deserve to get a free ride!

Thank you Sen Obama for setting the record straight. I was thinking the same thing when I heard McCain's speech – did he not KNOW what Guliani and Palin were going to say the night before?!
They were so demeaning, not just to you, but to so many hard working Americans. It did motivate me to make a contribution to your campaign.

BTW – Palin only renounced the 'bridge to nowhere' after the national outcry. But she still took the money! The bridge was never built but Alaska still got the money – so Republicans need to stop talking about that. We are NOT stupid!!

What nerve MCCAIN has to think we are that STUPID. After 26 years in Washington and not talking about any substabce and issues in this campaign or convention, He really has nerve to think that we will be that STUPID to vote for him and his unqualified Attack Dog (Palin). She just keep repeating the BUSH speech writer's words that she memorized during the convention on the road. WHY, because she has no substance or record or experience or qualification to talk about anything else other than HOW BAD OBAMA IS.
PALIN reminds me of a JUNIOR CHENET with all the divisiveness and negative personal attacks. I am scared to death to see her as VP.

John McCain is talking change because it works.

He does not represent change but if he does not put on a good show he will not represent anyone. He is doing what he has to do to try to win an election.

He voted with Bush 90% of the time and now wants to be called a maverick.

WHAT A JOKE. Unfortunately some people are stupid enough to believe it as long as he waves our flag at all of his rallies.

Keep it up, Obama, and America needs to be wary of this McPalin Pigfest, she's like the snake with lipstick batting her eyelashes at you and you're all crooned and swooned up about her and then suddenly she bites you and you scream and ask her why she bit you and she turns with that smile and says, "You knew I was a snake."

FlaDem   September 6th, 2008 3:56 pm ET

Good for you Obama. It's about time they hear some truth for a change. Sarah Palin is not liked by all in Wasilla. Just google 'Sarah Palin Email' and you will find an interesting email from Anne Kilkenny of Wasilla, who has known Sarah since 1992. Interesting reading. This has been verified by snopes as real. GO BAMA/BIDEN.

RYAN kr Jr   September 6th, 2008 3:56 pm ET

That is true Sen. Obama republicans think Americans 're stupid, sometimes i think that way too, and they will continue to think that way till Americans rise up and say enough is enough by voting against them this election include Lower House and Upper House.

Debby   September 6th, 2008 3:56 pm ET

Obama is right about Palin when she was a Mayor she had earmarks, but she had none as a Governor and John McCain none at all vs. Obama. So if Obama wants to talk earmarks he better be careful since he said he is running against McCain not Palin. He might shoot himself in the foot at the debates with this.

As far as the economy Obama has yet to say how he is going to pay for his economic plan. At a rally in New Mexico he dodged a question from a man making 1200 a month on Social Security when the man said his morgtage is more than that a month. Obama talked for 10 min. and didn't answer the man and took the next question. Talking about the issues like he claims and actually having a solution to get them accomplished are 2 different things.

ISSUES OVER POPULARITY   September 6th, 2008 3:56 pm ET

Good ! The Republicans have gotten this far because they are so aggressive, it's time for Obama to fight back! You're not sexist for challenging issues, and if they say it than
DON'T BACK DOWN,
get aggressive and challenge them back.

OBAMA YOU ARE BEING BULLIED....
HIT BACK

charles   September 6th, 2008 3:56 pm ET

hit them hard. you have been talking about changing Washington for the last 18months. McCain 8weeks to the election suddenly he is for change how come. he real thinks people are stupid.what happened to his experience slogan. stick to your experience your not the change agency. 26 years is not change.

want answers   September 6th, 2008 3:56 pm ET

Where was the experience, judgment and country first in picking her?
Did I get it wrong or did Mcbush just do a cut and run on his “experience” platform?
Experience
Experience
Experience
Experience
oops
Change
Change
Change
Change
Who do Americans really want in The White House: The one that voted against the war to begin with, the one that said “set a time table”, the one who first had the common senesce to say it’s time for “a change in America” or the one that’s following Obama’s lead? I would call Obama a leader with good judgment.

John   September 6th, 2008 3:56 pm ET

Hillary doesnt want to help Obama because he is about to fall.

this is the end of the obamanation!

Mccain 08 + HILLARY 2012

Dill   September 6th, 2008 3:56 pm ET

The voters in Ohio are not stupid enough to vote for someone just because they are pretty. In Ohio we want good paying jobs since most of the good jobs have been outsourced over seas. Pleas give us credit out here in voter land, we are voting so Americans can be first for awhile. What about our families? JOBS! JOBS! JOBS! Not just a bunch of talk!

Scott L   September 6th, 2008 3:55 pm ET

DEMOCRATS - CONTROL - CONGRESS

JOB - LOSSES - UP - 6.1%

HOLD - DEMOCRATS - ACCOUNTABLE

ryan   September 6th, 2008 3:55 pm ET

good! make a stronger case about how Palin and McCain (funny how the order of those seems to get mixed up recently) are really just being told what to say by the brillian republican political minds that got that moron Bush elected twice...

hopefully Biden will start the attack dog role stronger than he has

RL   September 6th, 2008 3:55 pm ET

Give it up Obama!

Go McCain/Palin 08

Ross in MD   September 6th, 2008 3:55 pm ET

Alaska receives more earmark dollars per person than any other state. Nearly 20 times as much as Obama's state of Illinois!

Obama is right, Republicans DO think you are stupid.

Obama 08.   September 6th, 2008 3:55 pm ET

Palin did not oppose the Bridge to Nowhere until Congress disallowed it; however she did keep the money; Palin hired a lobbyist to secure earmarks for Alaska who has received more money this way per capita than any other state.

She left her small town in debt for 22 million dollars...she is not a good money manager; she is a politcal opportunists who so easily delivers prepared smears and attacks with ease but refuses to speak directly to the American people.

Why silence on the lobbyists on the McCain campaign, Tucker???

Justin   September 6th, 2008 3:55 pm ET

They sure do Barack, they sure do.

Renee   September 6th, 2008 3:55 pm ET

Obama, and your supporters – you must think WE'RE stupid. So... she changed her mind on an issue after first supporting it. Maybe she had a good reason. No doubt she will admit that she was wrong at first, unlike you (can you say SURGE). That one issue just makes her more like YOU, as you change your mind, flip-flop and re-issue statements, after your first dumb knee-jerk arguments are thought about for 15 minutes, by your gaggle of advisers. If we're calling Sarah "Barracuda", you should be known as "Mr. Flip-Flop" – traits which include: unsubstantial, goofy, and easy to shake off.

Dare you to post this CNN.

John .A   September 6th, 2008 3:55 pm ET

the truth hurt, and McCain is becoming a master of gimmicks, after 26 years in Washington, after voting with John Bush 90% of the time, the economy in tatters, George McCain is for change, well tell you what a lot of people are stack on stupid and will fall for that

Bill From Florida   September 6th, 2008 3:55 pm ET

The Republicians must think we are stupid if they think we believe
in Palin. She has already been caught in a lie about the Jet she
put on Ebay. What happens if this woman gets pregnant again,
who is going to pay for the care of her children??We the taxpayers
are, that's who. Is her pregnant daughter going to move in the White
House with or without a husband. Soccer mom she may be ,VP
she is not.

OBAMA///Biden 08

lorenzo   September 6th, 2008 3:55 pm ET

good call barack about time someone called mccain out on his bull

Bill   September 6th, 2008 3:55 pm ET

Righ on Obama, those 2 are the greatest liars in america and think everyone is stupid and buy that garbage.

Obama for President

R.I.F.   September 6th, 2008 3:54 pm ET

The do and it sad that their right. Why else would we re-elect Bush in 2004. Not this time.

Larry Buchas   September 6th, 2008 3:54 pm ET

McCain & Palin are the continuation of Bush-Cheney.

They can't even face the press because they threw a convention of lies and distortions.

It is time to put the Republicans feet to the fire.

steve   September 6th, 2008 3:54 pm ET

Go get them Obama.
They are a pack of wolf with a credentials for falshood

California Democrat   September 6th, 2008 3:54 pm ET

Ouch! Obama is correct. I can't belive the Republicans are trying to spin the word Change into their corner. Don't worry Barack we are not stupid.

BTW, Sarah Palin is such a puppy, keep following the old dog Sarah, keep marking your territory right behind him. LOL

Hanky   September 6th, 2008 3:54 pm ET

People are increasingly acting like hypocrites.
When Barack came out people were saying the catchphrase of the day, he is not ready, he is inexperienced, however, when Palin comes out and people want to know her experience, they run out this convoluted 18 month executive experience without reconciling the lack of foreign policy experience and national Federal experience. Obama has national Federal experience and some actual executive experience. Cancel them both out.
He has judgment over McCain, has been the agent of change before McCain copied him, has opposed Iraq from the get-go and supported concentrating on Afghanistan.
When people question Palin, whose views we know little of, they say sexism, hands off, ect.
Its convenient when your candidate fits the bill, but when the opposition finds similar circumstances, the game is changed.
When you have no economic plan, no great track record for Iraq, and say its not about issues, then you have no issue to stand on.
Barack for president in 2008

Tainopower   September 6th, 2008 3:54 pm ET

I will like for obama to tell me his plan for our country? So far I heard lots of talking but no substance . I want to know how is going to do it.

Mister D   September 6th, 2008 3:54 pm ET

He's right on. This campaign is NOT about Sara Palin, it's NOT about Joe Biden. It's not even about John McCain or about Barack Obama. It's about who is going to get us out of the horrible mess we are in right now. John McCain says we've screwed you over for 7+ years...but now WE are different. Give us another chance...to do it for another4!

ENOUGH!!!

OBAMA/BIDEN 08/12

Ross Anderson   September 6th, 2008 3:53 pm ET

By these accounts either Sarah Palin is a mimic or unoriginal.

Donna   September 6th, 2008 3:53 pm ET

If anyone says race isn't a factor in this election. Ask them if McCain would have picked Sarah Palin for a running mate if she and her family were African Americans? Then ask if they would be complaining about the elitism of the Obamas (who both came from poor families) if the Obamas were white?

Allan dallas   September 6th, 2008 3:53 pm ET

McCain going to tell Biden's son who is lobbyist in Wash. He going to tell Hillary Clinton who don't trust you Obama with phone call at 3.00 am. He going to tell millions people who you Obama going to raise capital tax.

Ken, LA California   September 6th, 2008 3:53 pm ET

Not this time, we are not falling for this, if you want a president who will start a war anytime anywhere any place, then MacCwar is your guy, we are fed up of Rethuglicans.

Getting away with it..   September 6th, 2008 3:53 pm ET

McCain's speech was saying: "Oops, yeah, we did mess up didn't we?
But hey! Would you please vote for us again?"

Btw, Sarah Palin is a puppet with no thoughts of her own.
I've never seen anyone get a high-profiled job without having an interview or two....

McCain's camp knows she's not ready or qualified for VP, so they're keeping her under wraps until they've successfully put the words into the puppet's mouth.

DLH   September 6th, 2008 3:52 pm ET

McCain has a proven record of change, Obama has a record of.... wait a minute... I know he's done something in his 153 days in the US Senate... oh darn... I can't seem to find anything he's actually done, but he sure likes to talk about change! That's an excellent qualification for president!

Ian   September 6th, 2008 3:52 pm ET

Here's some straight talk for you. Obama finally addresses the fact that McCain is trying to jump on his coattails by being an agent of change. It has been insulting as an Obama supporter to hear McCain claim to be all about Change. I'm glad that Obama's called him out for it.

Just J   September 6th, 2008 3:52 pm ET

Obama, I trust you to bring the country back to its Gloria

not some old man with a woman on his shoulder who people are flocking to see if she is all that and a bag of chips.

People didn't even go to his rallys before Sarah, that is because no one believe him. Sarah is not going to change my mind, because she will have to support his ideas, and that is where I drop off.

I don't support McBushlin at all!

I support getting this country back to its Glory
I support Barack Obama – Joe Biden

Annie   September 6th, 2008 3:52 pm ET

Of course republicans think Americans are stupid – we have been!
Just look at the last two elections. Now look at the Sarah Palin craze. McCain is preying upon our love for all glitter and no substance, and he may just prevail. We have it in us to be stupid again.

Independent for Obama   September 6th, 2008 3:52 pm ET

27 million dollars in earmarks Sarah Palin requested to be exact. The media needs to do a serious segment on fact checking Ms. Palin.

The info coming out about here is NOT good for the repbubs.

Sherry, Atlanta   September 6th, 2008 3:52 pm ET

SORRY TO TELL YOU, SENATOR OBAMA. . . BUT WAS IT NOT THE AMERICAN'S THAT ALLOWED BUSH/CHENEY TO REMAIN IN POSITION FOR TWO TERMS? WAS IT NOT AMERICAN'S, WHO VOTED REPUBLICAN'S INTO CONGRESS FOR 12 OF THE LAST 14 YEARS?

REPUBLICAN'S CONTROLL. . . HAS GOTTEN AMERICA IN THIS SITUATION!

RID ALL REPUBLICAN'S!!!!!!!

OBAMA/BIDEN '08-'12

Barbara   September 6th, 2008 3:51 pm ET

Democratic: 2,689,359 Republican: 1,941,651 Libertarian: 923 Unaffiliated: 1,301,921 Total: 5,933,854

I'm one of the unaffiliated that will go DEM this year. YOU DO THE MATH

Flobpf   September 6th, 2008 3:51 pm ET

Seems Obama has finally got into the fighting mode now! Great!

4Obama   September 6th, 2008 3:51 pm ET

I love Obama.....he started out as a community organizer so he is in touch with every day Americans......

Althea   September 6th, 2008 3:51 pm ET

Sarah misleads and twists the truth.... "I put it on Ebay" must have been a mistake since it didn't sell that way! She made a mistake. YET many will believe she sold it on Ebay because of the way she used her words and the way McCain has continued to repeat the story as did Sarah. Sort of what the republicans do.... lead us into war with twists of words.

voter   September 6th, 2008 3:50 pm ET

Well it is about time that Obama point out the hyprocricy of McCain and Palin. I don't understand how McCain can change washington when it is his party that destroyed this country. He voted over 95% of the time with his party. How is he planning to bring change when he is part of the problem?

ali   September 6th, 2008 3:50 pm ET

LOL! I feel as if the GOP treats Americans like children, easy to manipulate and convince on topics that have no substance. The Democrats are trying to treat America as an adult who can think for itself and is interested in substance and solutions.

Honestly Obama is right, the GOP mocked change but now they're running on it. Obviously this is WHAT the American people want and Obama offered it first because he recognized this.

They keep saying he's not reading to lead yet they follow him on the Change message.
A-mazing.

David   September 6th, 2008 3:50 pm ET

Finally Obama is going after these frauds.

honestlady   September 6th, 2008 3:50 pm ET

Obama is right on the money with this one!!!!!!

OBAMA/BIDEN 08

Annamica, OH   September 6th, 2008 3:50 pm ET

No Obama, I think YOU are stupid!

Ms Wright   September 6th, 2008 3:50 pm ET

Why are the biased news station not covering that fact that it is being reported on the wire that people have heard Sarah Palin refer to to Barack Obama as a "sambo"

Besides insulting Obama with a Step-N’-Fetch-It, “darkie musical” swipe, people who know her say she refers regularly to Alaska’s Aboriginal people as “Arctic Arabs”

I bet Cnn won't post this!

ts   September 6th, 2008 3:50 pm ET

You tell 'em Obama!!! Everyone is watching. Her lies will be exposed. That is the media's job.

Mike   September 6th, 2008 3:49 pm ET

Obama claims change is his, however he was never known as a maverick, and is not known for doing anythng legitimate of any notable scale on a bipartisan basis in his short carrer in actual ervice to the public. It is typical rhetoric from a pretty face. Attention Obama supporters, you are being taken for fools, save gas and stay home on election day. This from a former democrat.
