Sen. McCain campaigned in New Mexico Saturday.

(CNN) — Promising a "very bipartisan approach" to how he'll run his administration, Sen. John McCain said in an interview broadcast Sunday that he would appoint Democrats to his Cabinet.

Speaking to CBS' "Face the Nation," the Republican presidential nominee vowed that he won't just have a single token Democrat in his Cabinet.

"It's going to be the best people in America, the smartest people in America," McCain said. "So many of these problems we face — for example, energy independence — what's partisan about that?"

He said he'll also ask some members of his Cabinet "to work for a dollar a year. They've made enough money. But I'll also ask people who have struggled out there in the trenches to help people, to volunteer in their communities, who understand these problems at that level, which obviously is lost on a lot of — a lot — a big segment of Washington."

Sarah Palin is hiding behind a woman mask and punch like a man and when ever she gets punch back all her fans wants her to be treated like a woman. After all she said about Obama at the convention she deserves to be treated like a man.

Joe Lieberman and Zell Miller might fill the bill.

But I doubt any Democrats will betray their party to embrace another war.

ABUSED OF POWER,.
INSULT TO WOMEN WHEN YOU DUMPED YOUR WIFE WHO SPENT 5 YEARS WAITING PRAYING AND CAMPAIGNING FOR YOUR RELEASE TO MARRIED RICH YOUNGER WOMAM.

HAVING AN AFFAIR AND LIED TO A YOUNGER WOMAN THAT YOU WERE 17 YEARS YOUNGER JUST TO CHEAT WITH HER , IS DISRESPECTFUL TO WOMEN ALL OVER THE WORLD.

COVERING ABUSED OF POWER FOR POLITICAL REASON IS AN ABUSED OF POWER MCCAIN.

FLIP FLOPPING ON ISSUES TO BE ON EVERY SIDE IS SAME OLD POLITICE.

CALLING FOR UNITY WHEN YOU LET YOUR RUNNING MATE BASHED YOUR OPPONENT DISGRACEFUL. OR LETTING OTHER DO YOUR DIRTY CAMPAIGN HOUR EARLIER AND STANDING IN A STAGE SAYING YOU WILL WORK WITH THE OTHER PARTY IS BULL.

Yeah you are right. the case was on long before she was selected to be McCain running mate. If was not Republican running mate and she was guilty she could be remove from Office she abused.

Now it will be more difficult for investigate her now that she is a running mate.

Where is independent investigation when Republican already turn it to be political motivation?

You fired a person when that person refused to fire a police officer. The big question is,:

WHY THE TROOPER WAS NOT FIRED WHEN HE TASER HIS 10 YEARS SON AND WHY IS IT AFTER HE WENT THROUGH NASTY DIVORCE BEFORE HE GOT FIRED?

I know Sarah Palin has something to do with his firing period

Sorry McCain. I see you make this statement as a way to try and win the election. YOu might be true to your word but since did your word ever stick. You are Politics First and your Country Second. You have proven that when you put Sarah Palin on the ticket.

Now McCain is using Obama's change. Makes me wonder can Republicans come up with a different slogan other than change hmmmmm haven't Obama being using this one from the very beginning. Now McCain camp wants to claim it as their very own.

Repbulican VP is piling lies on top of lies at the stump. and then MCain go right behind her and agree with the same lies again. Did McCain do your research? Those lies will come back to haunt you at the end.

Sarah Palin has brought in her own personal baggage she is not squeaky clean as it is appeared to be and is under investigation for bullying people with her power.

The polls are not even close when calling someone for their thoughts on the election. The people that they are calling are baby boomers. Now a days people use their cell phones as a home phone. People no longer have need for a home phone. What they use now is a basic phone at home if they have one. Cell phones keeps people closer in touch with their families. Have you notice that there are less pay phones available to the public.? Seems to me you are very out of touch. Wait until November and you will see.

Wondering why Sarah Palin is not allowed interviews. I gather it is because McCain camp is waiting to see what Senator Obama is about to do and say with game plan on the stump this week coming up. .

Sarah Palin has a lot to learn in such a short time she is going against the top notch on the stump Democratics. Who knows it backwards and forwards. Biden was ready from day one. So why is it taking Palin so long to go out on her own.

Makes you wonder about McCain judgement.

Let's see if Sarh Palin can pull this off. So far all we know is that she can read quite well. America seems to be patient but not for long. Time will tell.

First McCain tries to get women to vote for him by selecting gutter mouth Palin. Now he says he will appoint Democrats. So what do you want me to do as a Democrat? Vote for you? Are you delusional? Uh, not even with a court order would I vote for you McCain. I wouldn't vote for you to be president of a VFW Post! You are unfit to command anything.

Read my lips McCain: No Way. No How. No McCain.

We are not better off with a Republican in office than we were 4 and 8 years ago.

McCain in a few weeks you are going to get the answer to your promises and you won't like being rejected. Bud, you're gonna lose so badly you will make history as the biggest landslide loss in American history. Maybe all the women who don't like how you rejected your first wife will give you their answer.

Maybe all the vets who you voted against will give you their answer.

Maybe all the Democrats who you think will vote for you because you stupidly say "I'll appoint Democrats" will tell you just how wrong you are.

The message is: Go Home McCain. Retire to basketweaving and making up war stories and retell how you are really the author of the surge so you should be president. Maybe president of your local VFW. That's all your fit to command.

And why are you a "hero"? You have done nothing heroic. You got caught. Alvin York was a hero. He risked his life in a one-on-one. You flew a plane (which is NOT a fighter plane but a bomber) and got shot down. Nothing heroic. If you are a hero, where is your Congressional Medal of Honor.

What a dismal disgrace.

Keep promoting fear and we will continue to be the laughing stock of the world!!

You know, I heard the same thing out of George W. Bush, and it never happened. How is this not a Bush third term?

You know what else I noticed during the Republican Convention? The man who once blasted Barack Obama for not wearing a flag lapel pin, hasn't worn one since. He didn't wear one during the Saddleback Forum and didn't wear one during the RNC.

John McSame is now the biggest hypocrite in the nation.

I really must congratulate Barack Obama. His candidacy has been the most illuminating candidacy of all time. I really mean that.

His candidacy has shown that Oprah is a bigot, the press is hostage to the radical left, the absolute intollerance of liberals to anyone who disagrees with them and that democrats are willing to sacrifice US interests to gain political advantage. .

What an eye-opener Obama has been.

Obama is a idealist, McCain is a realist. it would be nice to have a perfect world like sen Obama promises, where all our medical problems are taken care of, and all our energy needs are taken care of, and everybody has jobs, and every body has a no charge education ect, and all this being a perfect world, will be done at no charge to the public. no taxes raised, all the companies will be forced to comply, all the education system will be run by the government, not the state, with no input from the public, like choice of school ect. free enterprise will be taxed to the point of extinction. the deficit because of all this spending will grow and our world rating will fall. paying off the debt will become unplayable. sen. McCain is an American, that believes in the American way of free enterprise, where the government should help create jobs not prevent then from happening. this is a country of choices not dictatorship once you start controlling there is no stopping I'll vote McCain Palin

CNN,

I want to applaud Campbell Brown for her objective interview with Tucker Bounds. Her questions regarding Sarah Palin were fair and appropriate.

It is unfortunate that Tucker was unprepared to answer Campbell on some basic questions (that were about her experience, and nothing to do with sexism) about Sarah Palin.

And for John McCain to deny an interview with CNN because Tucker was unprepared shows an arrogance and elitist attitude that is not becoming of a leader.

Again, Campbell Brown is an example of why CNN is the best in reporting on politics in the US.

And CNN, if you want truth, why don't you interview Anne Kilkenny, who has known Sarah Palin for years?

Daphne   September 7th, 2008 11:09 am ET

Katrina   September 7th, 2008 11:07 am ET

McCain looked old and trembly on Thursday night. He isn't running anymore, he's being run. These are scary times, folks — a vote for McCain is a vote for President Palin. Think hard before you gamble with the country. McCain's on record saying he often makes mistakes in haste, and "suffers the consequences without complaint." If he were to die in office, the fact that he can't complain won't be of comfort for those of us to suffer the dire consequences.

I've said all along he isn't presidential material. He would make a better press secretary…actually, they take questions. Scratch that. He should just lecture for a living.

Obama spent more time writing his books than doing his job in the state (129 votes of 'present'????!) and federal Senate. By the way, did you watch his interview that he's been avoiding with Bill O'Riley for nearly a year? Obama was squirming the entire time. If he can't handle Hillary, Palin, McCain (Bill for that matter) how the hell is he going to lead this country?

His loss will be his own fault. He could have shored up the White House by selecting Hillary but NO. His arrogance will cost the dems the White House once again. He is out for Obama and Obama alone…ask Rev. Wright.

Go team!

Tell me the last time the President of the USA authorized two stimulus checks for taxpayers? What has Bush done so wrong that his approval rating is low? An Iraq war that we are now realizing will be over during the next President's term? Maybe Bush should say to the American people, you are very ungrateful and don't deserve jobs, don't deserve tax refunds, don't deserve stimulus checks two times during my presidency. Obama is spewing rhetoric, and some are buying into it as they are not doing the research. I have been doing the research, NAFTA was authorized by Clinton himself, and jobs started disappearing under his leadership. Also, we have federal agencies that are allowing companies to merge, and merger, and then merge again. Bank of America and AT&T are two companies that are notorious for this. Washington's congress isn't the only thing that needs shaking up, the agencies that are allowing the mergers need to be told, enough! Anyone in Michigan? The reason your jobs are disappearing is not due to Bush, it is due to the backlash that has been occurring for over 20 years. When the big 3 automakers were churning out cars that were not fit to drive, and didn't last longer than 5 years. This is a fact as I remember my father being told to get out of buying American by his employer due to the poor quality. Quality has picked up, along with people beginning to realize they don't need big SUV's to flaunt their status, and we have an industry that is being transformed. As far as jobs going overseas, that is not Bush or anyone in congress, it is a decision made by corporations to make their bottom line fatter. Look at CEO's salaries these days… a little out of whack, wouldn't you say? Obama is nothing but a rhetoric machine, and I have absolutely no respect for him. He is misleading the public, and as a country, we need to wake up before we make a serious mistake. Also, so what if Palin doesn't have the foreign relations experience of Biden or McCain. This election is about the United States of America!

CW   September 7th, 2008 11:06 am ET

Andrew   September 7th, 2008 11:06 am ET

Several of my comments on this story have been rejected by CNN. I'm merely trying to point honestly to the fact that, as many Muslims in the Middle East do not like Jews, it would be problematic for U.S. foreign policy were Lieberman to be appointed Secretary of State–or Secretary of Defense for that matter. I can't imagine McCain not giving Lieberman a high-level post, so this concerns me.

I can see him appointing Lieberman as Secretary of State. If this happens, you can kiss any credibility we might have in brokering Middle East peace discussions right goodbye. This is a SCARY, SCARY thought and just solidifies my vote against this guy. He's already proven his lack of judgment with Palin and I have no doubt he'd do it again with Jumpin' Joe, which would be the flat-out WORST move in the history of our wonderful country. Want Conflict = Want McCain.

Kevin - Jonesboro, GA   September 7th, 2008 10:53 am ET

OMG…I am watching McCain on Face the Nation and am sitting here in shock that he can lie and double talk with such a straight face!!!!

He says that Barack "denigrated" Palin's record by minimizing her record as a small town mayor. He fails to acknowledge that Palin attacked Barack and he was defending his record.

Now he is stealing Barack's idea of awarding citizen's for service after his recent comments, and those made by his supporters, minimizing and putting down community organizers. The more that I listen to this forked tongue politician the more convinced I am in Barack and how I will be volunteering as much time as possible to his campaign. We can't let McCain-Palin within eyesight of the White House.

Our National Security is the Economy. Without an economy, we cannot feed ourselves. We cannot defend America. We will not have the next generation jobs.

Lin   September 7th, 2008 10:51 am ET

McCain has many democrats who like him as a friend and as a politician. His message of reform is positive. Reform is making the system run better and fairer. Many democrats like Joe Biden have publicly stated they would be honoured to work with John McCain even as his VP.

Seattle Sue   September 7th, 2008 10:44 am ET

I'm sure if McCain is elected, Joe Lieberman will be a Cabinet member. But Lieberman has been a Republican in Democractic clothing for years. He is not my idea of a Democrat. If the Republican party had not threw the man that was running against Lieberman for the Senate in Conn. under the bus and supported Lieberman, Joe would be out of Congress and probably we working as a lobist

Ben, NC   September 7th, 2008 10:43 am ET

I just have one question for McCain's Republican team, if he is an agent of change how come you guys did not bring in any good change during the past 8 years of Republican term. How can any one trust that they will bring about change when they are the ones that have let the american people down.

McCain is a flip-floper… he is a liar, he is under estimating the judgement of the american people. He is steeling Obama's view and painting a false picture. How can we trust this Maveric when is changes his stand to promote his career and not placing the Country First.

We have lost enough lives in unnecessary Wars, now we need to build America.

McCain is like Bush, Palin is like McCain.

We need democrats now to realize our American Deam. Obama/Biden 2008. The change we need. The change that will happen. The change that is positive. The change that is possible.

CNN, I hope you would post this.

Rich   September 7th, 2008 10:43 am ET

I heard Obama say the other day that people have lost all of these jobs on "their watch", referring to Bush and McCain. What does he mean by "their watch"? McCain and Obama are both in the Senate, which has been controlled by the Democrats, along with the House, for the last two years. So, how does that make it on John McCain's watch and not Obama's? What exactly has Obama doen the last two years, while his party was in control, to help all of these jobless people? Nada.

Now that he is running for President he has all these great ideas and proposals, but for the last two years when he had a golden opportunity to actually do something to help people, he did nothing. And he calls this a new kind of politics.

True American   September 7th, 2008 10:42 am ET

I guess McCain's strategy is to steal tactics and slogans from the Dems because his were not working. So, now HE's the change candidate? So now HE's going to reach across the aisle and appoint Dems to his cabinet? John, FYI, Lieberman is not a Democrat….maybe McCain means he will appoint Hillary and Barack to his cabinet! Right!

By the way, all the Republican talk about the "Surge" being the right thing to do and taking all the credit for promoting it — like I heard yesterday, that's like a kid spilling the milk all over the floor and then taking credit for thinking to get the mop to clean it up….if McCain and others others hadn't voted FOR the War, we wouldn't have needed the Surge. Come on, you can't create a disaster and then take all the credit and none of the blame when you recommend something to fix the problem you created!

And I'm sorry but Gov Palin is a gimmick pick and not a serious governing pick. She voted for more earmarks per capita in Alaska than any other state. How can she claim to be the anti-earmark candidate? I also love how her inexperience is being spun to be an advantage by calling her "fresh" a "maverick" a new face to challenge Washington, etc. Yeah, she's all of that which is another way of saying she ain't qualified to govern. She may help McCain get elected but no true Republican honestly believes she was the best governing candidate. Mit Romney blows her away but he could not have sparked the enthusiasm for the boring McCain ticket as she did. So, let's not fool ourselves….governing a state with a population of only 700,000 for less than 2 years is NOT the equivalvent of being a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for 2 years when it comes to national and international experience. She's an attractive candidate but she's not ready for the big stage yet. If, as the Republicans claim, Obama is not ready to lead the country, Palin is even further behind on that curve. But since they know she is, they want to change the conversation away from experience and to being fresh and uninhibited by Washington's trappings. Hmmm, why didn't they say that about Obama when they called him inexperienced and too new to lead?

Bill From Florida   September 7th, 2008 10:42 am ET

McCain/Palin Ticket: Invokes God in support of war, as does the Taliban, Al Quaeda, Iranian leadership, evangelicals and other religious extremists…NO THANKS!

McCain/Palin Ticket: Spreads false propaganda to advance their extreme policies, as does the Taliban, Al Queda, communist leaders, Iranian leadership, North Korean leadership…NO THANKS!

Republicans, stop legislating the morals of American citizens! If we continue to put you in office, it won't be long before we are living under the same kind of strict social conservatism that is imposed by the Taliban, Al Quaeda and other religious extremists!

Irony   September 7th, 2008 10:39 am ET

McCain will say anything to get elected!

Why would a Republican vote for McCain if he was going to appoint "liberals"?

This shows exactly how desperate he is to pander for votes!

Last week Palin, now this? What's next week, flying cars in every garage?

billy   September 7th, 2008 10:39 am ET

all he is talking about is Zionists like Lieberman that want us in the middle east for 100 years to support their real country Israel. they know McCain will provide this, so that is why Lieberman supports him.

steve   September 7th, 2008 10:38 am ET

If McCain wants to appeal to the average Obama voter, he'll need to appoint more "Pop Culture" personalities.

JC   September 7th, 2008 10:38 am ET

Dear wow and other easily fooled voters: wow, open your eyes and better still your minds.

swanspirit   September 7th, 2008 10:38 am ET

unlike Obama when John McCain says he will appoint democrats you had better believe he will …. JOHN AND SARAH all the WAY to the WHITE HOUSE !!!

thomas   September 7th, 2008 10:38 am ET

A man cannot get clean just by putting on a new suit. McCain's record is well-defined and the vindictive erratic disorganized republican covention was an example of what could be expected from a McCain presidency. McCain should say what he means and he should mean what he says.

beevee   September 7th, 2008 10:38 am ET

It is hard to believe that McCain would do as he promises if gets elected judging by the way he is running the campaign. Mr. Bush also said similar things when he ran for president first time. I think it is a way getting independents votes.

Xango 08 & 12   September 7th, 2008 10:37 am ET

McCain and McBush are one and the same

he is now copying every word Obama and Biden are saying,

is he joking or what

does he remember that he is running for president of one of the most powerful countries in the world?

and has anyone heard Palin talk? it is an embarrasement, if you think Bush was the laughing clown in the international arena wait until everyone hear this Palin person talking as if she is some sort of 19 century person who believes teen pregnancy is part of God's will and that we should have that set as an example
or that GOD should straightened all gay and lesbian people
or that GOD shoud destroy those who dont agree with her

are we serious, is this 2008 and the US or is this

afghanistan in 1988???

is this woman nuts???

Oregon Voter to "Wow"   September 7th, 2008 10:37 am ET

Thanks for the perfect example of republican garbage. You typed up nearly an entire page of rants and raves about Obama and the media and didn't say one positive thing about your candidate nor do you say one word about the actual topic. The republican party has become meaningless and mean.

Now for a word about the actual story you didn't respond to. If senator McCain becomes the president I hope he will ignore the "D" or "R" after their name because, and I know this is a difficult concept for "wow", it is the right thing to do. That is what you do when you put your country first. Obama would do the same.

Go Obama!   September 7th, 2008 10:37 am ET

McCain is bought and paid. Don't believe his words. Look at his actions. And Palin, she has a degree in Journalism. That is a NOTHING degree. He attended 6 different colleges in 5 years. I bet she is bumb as a brick. And, her daughter is "knocked up" at 16. What a disgrace. And this is what you want in the White House. I think not.

Unhappy With Direction   September 7th, 2008 10:36 am ET

Yea, he'll bring in idiots like Lieberman.

FreeNLovIt   September 7th, 2008 10:36 am ET

The Economy is our National Security. With a strong economy and the right policies, we dont have to borrow money, otherwise 50% of our kids paycheck, in the future, will go to paying for our debts.

The Economy is our National Security. With the next generation jobs, we are above the rest of the world.

When you fight a war, you deprive the enemy of one thing: supplies

If we dont get this economy going, there will be NO National Security

WBW OHIO   September 7th, 2008 10:33 am ET

Hey McIdiot and that Pig with Lipstick!!!!!!!!!!! No One Cares. Because you will not be PRESIDENT.

Tom   September 7th, 2008 10:33 am ET

If Palin is an example of McCain's selection for his administration, I hate to see who he might pick. Clearly he is making his picks based upon ideology, not competence. Sounds like another four years of Bush.

Chris Nebraska   September 7th, 2008 10:33 am ET

note to wow: On McCain and the surge "working"… even a broken clock is right twice a day. John McCain never met a war he didn't like - war war war. Cry "WAR!" all day, and you're bound to get it right once in a while.

David   September 7th, 2008 10:32 am ET

By "Democrats" John McCain undoubtedly means one "democrat" — Joe Lieberman. In other words, no Democrat at all.

If John McCain were really interested in bipartisanship, he would not be pandering so eagerly to the far right with his campaign platform and his Evangelical neocon pit bull with lipstick Sar ahPalin.

Florida Voter   September 7th, 2008 10:31 am ET

McPOW could not even make his own pick for VP, what makes him think that I believe that he will be the one that makes the call of who will be in his cabinet.

We all know that the party behind the curtains will be pulling all of the strings and placing who they want in certain positions.

Oh, by the way how does the republican base feel about democrates being in the cabinet, I bet some have decided to stay home already.

D.Bradshaw   September 7th, 2008 10:31 am ET

For all of you who dont want to vote for a "black" man, remember, Obama IS also WHITE ! and this "white" independant voter IS voting for Obama, not because of his skin color, but, because HE makes good sense to me, AND his VP ( Biden) is also a man of integrity, and good judgement..expierience is good, if you realloy have it, Pain doesnt) BUT, good judgement is worth much more..people who HAVE good judgement, also have to good sense to hire other people with expierience to help them in the things they need help with..who do you suppose Bush, Cheney, McCain hired to help them, and whats your opinion now of thier good judgement ? otherwise, all this bickering is distracting people from the real problems here, causing us all to fall in to the REPUGS plan to distract us..from the ISSUES..Please folks, lets talk economy, and all the REAL issues that I need ( and you do too ) answers to..my "white" vote is going to the half black-half WHITE Obama, am true man of integrtiy, WITH good judgement..]\
GO OBAMA

Bottom line: Obama has NO resume, even for change!!   September 7th, 2008 10:31 am ET

It's Democrats……… PLURAL. Not just Lieberman. No matter what he says, morons like FreeNLovit just can't get over their stupidity and drinking the Nobama Kool Aid

The Only Republican in Brooklyn   September 7th, 2008 10:30 am ET

McCain, is trying to play down the middle. It's disrepectful. You should be running as an independent, not as a Repulican. It will be interesting to see how this comment will play with his Replican base.

FreeNLovIt   September 7th, 2008 10:25 am ET

It's never too late for fight more wars, but right now, our National Security depends on our Economy. We need to build the next generation jobs and ONLY the Democrats have the vision to do it or to push it.

Hillary, just want to say, we love you.

Live to fight for another day. Save yourself. Re-energize. Like a sport, it's time for a break. Let the Democrat re-energize our economy. We've had 8 years of crushing our enemies. It's time for change and it's NOW or never.

cathy   September 7th, 2008 10:25 am ET

McCain has already failed his first appointment test. He chose Palin. Lieberman does not count—he is a Republicrat.
I also find it interesting that not one original word has come out of McCain's mouth recently. He is just using Obama's. Also why is Sarah P only allowed to read what she is told? Why isn't she on news shows?
Is McCain still teaching her her "life story"? The piece of fiction about him at the Dem convention and on Cindy's web page (before editing) are examples he can use.

elle   September 7th, 2008 10:25 am ET

good luck with that John, make sure you run that across Sarah first!!

Jeremy   September 7th, 2008 10:24 am ET

teddy stevens   September 7th, 2008 10:24 am ET

just another big lie and they say oops.

time for real Change, Obama/ biden 08

Breck   September 7th, 2008 10:24 am ET

Obama will appoint real Republicans, not the current party line toeing jokes like McCain.

Obama/Biden 08. The change we need.

Linda   September 7th, 2008 10:24 am ET

Right. Joe Lieberman doesn't count as a democrat anymore, John. And BTW, your cave-in to the religious right in your choice of VP sort of seals the deal: I don't believe you. I don't believe that you have any interest anymore in bipartisanship. If you did, you wouldn't have chosen Rush Limbaugh's choice for VP. No credibility.

alvino   September 7th, 2008 10:23 am ET

I refuse to join the"Republicans for Four More Years of the Same Crap" group that has almost destroyed this country. You can put sugar and chocolate on their message, but it is still manure.

for obama nj   September 7th, 2008 10:22 am ET

mccain is such a fake, i truly hope the american people can see thru all this, at the convention, one of the announcers mentioned to her (one of ladies with hard white hat) mccain was against drilling in a certain part of alaska, and she said, well he will change his mind…it seems to me sarah palin will get mccain to change him mind on many things and that is real scary…he is not the leader here, he is the follower…..and i also was amazed at the comment where she gave away all the personal military info on her son whereabouts, and the military person says that was a no no, she did not even know that, and she can lead the military defense….this is a scary situation with the republicans, i hope the people can see through this.

Irony   September 7th, 2008 10:22 am ET

john   September 7th, 2008 10:19 am ET

Lieberman is NOT A DEMOCRAT!!!!

jason   September 7th, 2008 10:19 am ET

do you think we're stupid?

Alice Newman Center Harbor NH   September 7th, 2008 10:19 am ET

If McCain was a true "maverick" rather than just a former or so-called one, and really non-partisan - he could have chosen Senator Clinton as VP!

That would have put the question of experience off the table, she was throughly vetted, a woman and came with 18 million votes! She has already raised her family so life-balance isn't a question. She could even learn to shoot!

Choosing Lieberman does not get "bi-partisan" points. He's just in the closet … pretending not to be a Republican …

alex   September 7th, 2008 10:17 am ET

McCain please I agree with John he such a CopyCat. He saw he was losing and decided to steal Obama 's message! It is so sad and another thing YOU ARE NOT A MAVERICK IF YOU HAVE TO KEEP TELLING EVERYONE THE YOU ARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Obama/Biden 08 not McSame/Female Cheney!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

gene   September 7th, 2008 10:17 am ET

Sorry… last person i want in the cabinet is Lieberman… and you know that's exactly who he's talking about. And just because he has that little "D" after his name doesn't make him a Democrat… you actually have to believe in their principles to call yourself that. Just like all the conservative Christians who feel that a convention full of attacks is the Christian way… not really christians by belief.. just by name.

Shelly   September 7th, 2008 10:17 am ET

This has become a juvenile graffitti board for Obama worshippers. Rarely (if at all) seen any useful comments on any of the political ticker storeis.

John   September 7th, 2008 10:16 am ET

Anyone believe this??? Didn't think so.

JB   September 7th, 2008 10:16 am ET

Hey, his best friend is a dem who was kicked out of the party because he thought for himself and didn't BLINDLY follow party lines.

And dems verbally abuse Lieberman.

Both McCain and Lieberman have always stood up and fought for what they believe is right.

We saw McCain do this when it came to torture. HE STOOD UP TO BUSH AND SAID NO.

We saw this with immigration (I didn't agree with his bill), but, it is admirable to see someone fight.

Obama has no experience. He did nothing while in State politics (He did vote present 180 times) and NOTHING as a US senator. He was a US Senator for ONE YEAR before he chose to run.

You are hiring a law degree for President. I don't know about you, but, I know many people with law degress WHO ARE NOT QUALIFIED TO BE PRESIDENT!

Mike   September 7th, 2008 10:15 am ET

John McCain's statements should be viewed for what they are… pure political tactics. He is now trying to talk reconciliation, unity, and working across party lines, in an attempt to attract people in the middle. However, when viewed in parallel to his allowing his Karl Rove handlers to structure such disgusting partisan smears during the convention, his sincerity about bipartisanship must be called into question.

John McCain Version 2008 is a completely different candidate from the one that ran in 2000. As far as I can tell, he has completely sold out to the right wing of the Republican party in order to get elected. "Country First", my foot. Just more campaign sloganeering. If he was serious about putting the country first, he would have chosen a running mate with the credentials to run the country. I'm afraid McCain's credibility is in the toilet as far as I'm concerned.

Irony   September 7th, 2008 10:13 am ET

And you expect me to believe you?

After so many lies and half truths from your campaign, I think your words are not worth much.

I'll put my bet on the real agents of change!

Obama - Biden 08

B   September 7th, 2008 10:13 am ET

I found it offensive that Gov. Palin compares herself to a pitbull.
I am sure that people that have been mauled or killed by one are not going to vote for these type of people.

She makes it sound she will tear anybody's head off if you get in her way. Well, has she ever watched the Sopranos ?

Inutah   September 7th, 2008 10:13 am ET

Who would work for him? ????? Does he call people names like he called his wife?

Anonymous   September 7th, 2008 10:12 am ET

can you believe this man, he's trying to run on Obamas message , send that woman back to alaska, and mccain needs to retire.

CopyCat John   September 7th, 2008 10:12 am ET

Well …. not exactly … McCain would appoint the Democrats that the RNC tells him to appoint … kind of how he selected his VP.

Sarah Palin wasn't a surprise pick … she was a hasty pick. Haste was required because the rightwingers in the GOP veto'ed Ridge or "Lie"berman.

Here again, COPYCAT McCain is echoing what Obama has said he'd do. Obama will appoint a wide range ideological challengers and some will be Republicans. The Senator's pick of Joe Biden proves he'll pick people who are not "YES" men/women.

Patty   September 7th, 2008 10:12 am ET

The best people to serve…right. That's why he picked the inexperienced hockey mom to be a heartbeat away from the most important job in our country. He is not putting his country first, he is putting his election first. In the most important decision of his campaign, he has failed. This McCain primary voter will not vote for him and I hope others wake up and see that he is not the maverick he claims to be. McCain–more of the same old Bush tactics.

FreeNLovIt   September 7th, 2008 10:12 am ET

McCain failed two most important leadership test

#1 Supported the War without even questioning it after years of experience
#2 Supported staying 100 years without even questioning how we can help THEM help themselves

We need judgement, vision and patience.

TyWebb   September 7th, 2008 10:11 am ET

Whew! That's a relief! He's got my vote now. Oh, wait…I forgot about Sarah Palin.

rachel   September 7th, 2008 10:11 am ET

oh boy more pandering.

ms j   September 7th, 2008 10:10 am ET

yeah, Lieberman, who isn't at all a democrat

mama4obama   September 7th, 2008 10:09 am ET

When he says he will….it means he will appoint Lieberman.

Sean Chong   September 7th, 2008 10:08 am ET

We all know who this "Democrat" is. That Joe guy! And I thought he's no longer a democrat? Bless you John, don't use this trick again.

Breck   September 7th, 2008 10:08 am ET

50 dollars says he'll put Lieberman in and count him as a Democrat.

Tennisguypitt   September 7th, 2008 10:07 am ET

I have a hard time believing it, but if he does, I'll respect that.

Obama/Biden '08

Dennis   September 7th, 2008 10:06 am ET

I don't think Lieberman qualifies as a Democrat anymore, Senator McCain.

jim   September 7th, 2008 10:06 am ET

It's sad when CNN uses itself to be a GOP bashing news site. John King has it right! The liberal media wants Obama elected at all costs. Is that fair ? Where is the balance ?

AMY   September 7th, 2008 10:05 am ET

pandering again McCain for democratic votes…..

wow   September 7th, 2008 9:58 am ET

How many times do the Obama followers have to be told OBAMA DID NOT HAVE ANY VOTE ON THE IRAQ WAR! He even said IF HE HAD THE RIGHT TO VOTE, HE DOESN'T KNOW HOW HE WOULD HAVE VOTED!!!! BUT, NOW finally ADMITTED the surge WORKED! Who was for it? McCain! Oh, and BO is now FOR drilling????????? He follows everybody else's lead. He also has done a horrible job reacting to Palin, (David Gergen even thinks so) if he can't handle the reaction to his challenger's VP pick, how the heck will he handle the WHITE HOUSE and all that comes with it???????

Secondly, this is basically Obama's problem with a lot of voters….He had time and effort to put into WRITING TWO memoirs all about HIMSELF, yet in the Illinois state senate AND U.S. senate, could NOT ONCE AUTHOR ONE piece of legislation for the American PEOPLE himself????? His adoration for only himself is sickening. He tagged his name onto other people's work, and the ONE piece he actually worked for was voted in favor 90 to 1?????? I bet that kept him up at night!

He shows his arrogance (as he did throughout the primaries) with comments like this…."I understand GOVERNOR Palin is from WASILL-Y", sorry Obama, but it is WASILL-A….nice attempt to belittle the small town again.

CNN, you just love to try and dig up the trash, ie: the 20% in Alaska who don't like Palin because she went in an cleaned the state up from corruption,….find ONLY them and act like they are the experts on her life and her work. Where are YOUR interviews with the 80% that approve??????

Where's the story about how she travelled to Kuwait with HER National Guard Troops shortly after she became Governor, so she could understand exactly what they go through and what they need? Where's the interview with the national guard's SUPERVISOR who has stated that she's been the best commander of the state's National Guard he's ever seen??? Loved how Campbell Brown tried to belittle that roll, too. Sorry, but who do you think oversees the training, supplying, and deploying of those troops on a day to day basis, who do you think makes sure they are READY to be deployed oversees???????? THE GOVERNOR!

Then CNN, go find JEALOUS, INSECURE working mothers who can't believe Palin CAN AND WILL be a great mother AND be a great VP…interview them so they can tell you how they think she can't do it. Just because these women don't think THEY CAN do it, doesn't mean PALIN CAN'T. These women make me laugh, not one of them talked about how as VP, Palin will not have to do the day-to-day stuff MOST working women would have to do. Scrub toilets, do laundry, grocery shop, wash the dishes, drive herself anywhere. She will have staff taking care of day-to-day stuff for her. Duh…imagine how much time YOU'D have with the White-House staff taking care of so much for you. ALL of us could only dream of the staff she will have. She'll probably have more time with her family than MOST working women do, Not to mention, did you know she only sleeps like 4 hours a night??? Imagine what she gets done before any of you are even up in the morning. Some people are just plain wired to do more than others. And BTW, THE FAMILY DOES HAVE A FATHER!!!!!

Love how the women's rights groups only want to take care of Democratic liberal women, WOMEN ARE WOMEN, support all of them or change your platform to say you are only for Liberal Women! Republican women are strong, are great leaders, live by their principals, and are an inspiration to ALL WOMEN.

Oprah needs to change her platform, too. She will only allow airtime to people that agree with her. No republicans are allowed to speak on her show?????? Come out and say you only support LIBERAL WOMEN. The others don't matter to her obviously. Does she think they shouldn't be allowed to talk about their views, it might make some women realize that Republicans ARE NOT ANTI-WOMEN like dems make them out to be. They've tried for 30 years to scare women and minorities into thinking only democrats relate to them, sorry, not anymore. You don't have to vote for her. At least respect to her. For over a year, you made excuse after excuse for Obama. WHY the vile hatred towards Palin?
