Bill Clinton to join McCain, Obama at Ground Zero on 9/11

Bill Clinton will attend the September 11 memorial ceremony at Ground Zero, Thursday.

Bill Clinton will attend the September 11 memorial ceremony at Ground Zero, Thursday.

(CNN) - Bill Clinton will join Barack Obama and John McCain in visiting Ground Zero this Thursday in memory of the victims of September 11, and deliver a speech focused on national security threats.

“But just as we reflect on the past, we must look ahead to ensure we are doing all we can to support families, unite our communities, and protect our country from future acts of terrorism," said the former president in a statement released by his office.

The McCain and Obama campaigns released a joint statement over the weekend announcing that both men will appear together in New York to mark the seventh anniversary of the attacks. The campaigns have also pledged to abstain from all negative campaign ads on that day.

Also Thursday, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama will meet at the former president's Harlem offices - their first extended in-person encounter since the tense primary season.

(UPDATED to clarify McCain and Obama are visiting Ground Zero Thursday, but will not be at the memorial ceremony.)

Bill Clinton is a great man, Obama tried his hardest to demean his legacy and to demean the man, but Americans respect Clinton, and it's appropriate he be there at ground zero. Obama now needs Bill to win, I guess he's forgotten all the hate filled nasty comments he made, including calling him a racist.. His pandering is inappropriate at ground zero!

To those who blame 9/11 on the government other than via the neglect of the Clinton administration of our military:

Please adjust your tin foil hats; your reception is all messed up.

Again, Obama cant save us. Hillary cant save us. McCain will never be able to save us.

WE THE PEOPLE need to figure out what is important to AMerica? Our National Security depends on a ROBUST Economy.

If we have a strong economy, we'll be able to DEFEND the country. We'll be able to Spread Democracy, by being able to help around the world.

What an obscenity – Bill Clinton at Ground Zero. The driveby media won't bring up the fact that he turned down the chance to put Bin Laden behind bars in 1996…. because he 'couldn't think of a reason to hold him'…. . How can he sleep at night?

You HAVE a good point. Bush had a chance too, why did he invade Iraq? We could have CRUSHED the damaged Al Qaeda forces in Afghanistan. Now, they have re-grouped and morphed with more power.

Remember that time the twin towers were attacked during the Clinton administration, and the then-sitting president took quick, final and decisive action to thwart the terrorist threat altogether?

    Yeah, me neither.

Go Bill, if you get out there and campaign for Obama, that only increases the odds of victory, you were a great President.

Wow! You in the phony Lib press are sure dumb. Why you did’nt just go with Clinton but no, you sank her campaign because you had to have Obama the biggest radical lib. Then he was too arrogant to pick her as VP because he could do it by his self. I just can’t stand it sometimes, this is too funny!

The American people are seeing through your attempt to sway this election.

Oh good, b/c we need Bill and his failed foreign policies to be hanging around every September 11th to remind us who left our military and intelligence agencies completely unable to deal with the terrorist threat.

    On another Blog:
I am a resident of Wasilla, Alaska. I have known Sarah since 1992.
Everyone here knows Sarah, so it is nothing special to say we are on a
first-name basis. Our children have attended the same schools. Her
father was my child's favorite substitute teacher. I also am on a
first name basis with her parents and mother-in-law. I attended more
City Council meetings during her administration than about 99% of the
    residents of the city.

She is enormously popular; in every way she’s like the most popular
girl in middle school. Even men who think she is a poor choice and
won't vote for her can't quit smiling when talking about her because
    she is a "babe".

It is astonishing and almost scary how well she can keep a secret. She
kept her most recent pregnancy a secret from her children and parents
    for seven months.

She is "pro-life". She recently gave birth to a Down's syndrome baby.
There is no cover-up involved, here; Trig is her baby.

She is energetic and hardworking. She regularly worked out at the gym.

She is savvy. She doesn't take positions; she just "puts things out
there" and if they prove to be popular, then she takes credit.

Her husband works a union job on the North Slope for BP and is a
champion snowmobile racer. Todd Palin’s kind of job is highly
sought-after because of the schedule and high pay. He arranges his
work schedule so he can fish for salmon in Bristol Bay for a month or
so in summer, but by no stretch of the imagination is fishing their
major source of income. Nor has her life-style ever been anything
    like that of native Alaskans.

Sarah and her whole family are avid hunters.

    She's smart.

Her experience is as mayor of a city with a population of about 5,000
(at the time), and less than 2 years as governor of a state with about
    670,000 residents.

During her mayoral administration most of the actual work of running
this small city was turned over to an administrator. She had been
pushed to hire this administrator by party power-brokers after she had
gotten herself into some trouble over precipitous firings which had
given rise to a recall campaign.

Sarah campaigned in Wasilla as a “fiscal conservative”. During her 6
years as Mayor, she increased general government expenditures by over
33%. During those same 6 years the amount of taxes collected by the
City increased by 38%. This was during a period of low inflation
(1996-2002). She reduced progressive property taxes and increased a
regressive sales tax which taxed even food. The tax cuts that she
promoted benefited large corporate property owners way more than they
    benefited residents.

The huge increases in tax revenues during her mayoral administration
weren’t enough to fund everything on her wish list though, borrowed
money was needed, too. She inherited a city with zero debt, but left it
with indebtedness of over $22 million. What did Mayor Palin encourage
the voters to borrow money for? Was it the infrastructure that she said
she supported? The sewage treatment plant that the city lacked? or a

This is great I admire Bill Clinton. Sarah Palin is too extreme and she is a liar. I am glad the Clintons stepped in it is a tight race I am sure the more the race continues and Palins lies come out things will be okay. If Obama loses because of Hilraisers she will lose in 2012 if she runs again because they will need Obama supporters.

  18. The truth is in Obama

For those who are criticizing Bill Clinton for attending the 9/11 ceremony: he is the first-husband of the governor of our state where the ceremony is being held. Do you mind if people living in New York invite our governor's husband to attend?
