(CNN) – Bill Clinton will join Barack Obama and John McCain in visiting Ground Zero this Thursday in memory of the victims of September 11, and deliver a speech focused on national security threats.
“But just as we reflect on the past, we must look ahead to ensure we are doing all we can to support families, unite our communities, and protect our country from future acts of terrorism," said the former president in a statement released by his office.
The McCain and Obama campaigns released a joint statement over the weekend announcing that both men will appear together in New York to mark the seventh anniversary of the attacks. The campaigns have also pledged to abstain from all negative campaign ads on that day.
Also Thursday, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama will meet at the former president's Harlem offices - their first extended in-person encounter since the tense primary season.
(UPDATED to clarify McCain and Obama are visiting Ground Zero Thursday, but will not be at the memorial ceremony.)

I am glad Bill will be in NYC on 9/11. He can greet Obama the runner up and McCain our new president at the same time.
Today is the first time in the CNN poll of polls that McCain has an advantage over Obama. A USA poll suggest McCain at 51 % and that is the first time either candidate has crossed the 50% line.
this new poll is terrible news for Obama and I suggest that he withdraw from the race immediately. He is risky, has a funny name and who knows what he would do with our country and our values.
McCain will protect our country and our values.

I am a Canadian and have been looking for posts to see if there were any comments about McCain's camp showing images of 9/11 at their convention....images of the twin towers burning.....
I, as a Canadian, was heartbroken for the families who lost loved ones that terrible day and had to see these images at a "party"...as an American, I would think you would be outraged! The crowd even applauded at the end of it....unbelievable! I would have been stunned into silence and shame.

Not long ago, the Clinton's were the most hated couple, now they are the most needed couple. Seems like the dems just can't seem to get it together. Then inner bickering has cost them this election. If Obama had selected Hillary, he wouldn't be behind in the polls. What an arrogant move! The Clinton's are a political dynamic machine and Obama was too blind to see that. How many other mishaps will he miss?
