Bill Clinton to join McCain, Obama at Ground Zero on 9/11

Bill Clinton will attend the September 11 memorial ceremony at Ground Zero, Thursday.

Bill Clinton will attend the September 11 memorial ceremony at Ground Zero, Thursday.

(CNN) - Bill Clinton will join Barack Obama and John McCain in visiting Ground Zero this Thursday in memory of the victims of September 11, and deliver a speech focused on national security threats.

“But just as we reflect on the past, we must look ahead to ensure we are doing all we can to support families, unite our communities, and protect our country from future acts of terrorism," said the former president in a statement released by his office.

The McCain and Obama campaigns released a joint statement over the weekend announcing that both men will appear together in New York to mark the seventh anniversary of the attacks. The campaigns have also pledged to abstain from all negative campaign ads on that day.

Also Thursday, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama will meet at the former president's Harlem offices - their first extended in-person encounter since the tense primary season.

(UPDATED to clarify McCain and Obama are visiting Ground Zero Thursday, but will not be at the memorial ceremony.)

inuk: "Appeasement only emboldens the wicked. To them it smells like weakness."

And what did they learn when we used their attacks to invade a country that wasn't involved while allowing them to slip out of our hands? They learned that we cared more about oil and revenge than about justice.

Amazing but do I now see the phony Obamanation groupies thankful to see the Clinton's? What a bunch of bigots you are! 2 weeks ago, the Clinton's were your nasty enemies and want to take them out for lunch. One more good reason Obama should not be in office.

This is a day when every American should come together, stop the nasty comments and just reflect on what happened to all of those people who were lost in the twin towers. That day belong to all of us but especially the survivors of those who were lost. Just one day without some nasty words.

Bill, please get out there and do all you can for the Democratic ticket. Otherwise, we are going to have a nut for vice president. The country can't take that again. We have had too many years of nuts.

The repubs are always talking about the war but they are so stupid they do not think about the other issues that are affecting American's or the fact that I can not get a job or put gas in my car or sell my house because of the falling prices of the housing market. Obama will keep us safe and he will look to find solutions for the many other issues that we are facing. Vote for Obama 08 and 2012.

  7. Obama is winning

Jan from Boca, Obama is winning. You need to ask yourself why McCain needs Palin to go out and speak for him as if he is senile or something. She is like a cheerleader speaking for him, just like his wife holds his arm. We do not need another Nancy in the White House having to pretend that Ronald wasn't senile when he couldn't even remember where he was during the Iran Contra scandal hearing. McCain is acting like he needs this woman to make speeches for him before he talks, how strange is that? Biden does not get up and speak for Obama before he talks to the people. On the other hand, he isn't 72 either, which shows.

If Mr. Bill had been taking care of business during his time in office instead of rolling cigars this 9/11 would probabaly not have taken place. When the terrorist bombed the parking lot of the twin towers during Clinton's time in office he just gave them a slap on the hand and said OK that is enough. He never finished the job in the appropriate manner. He should have never pulled the troops out of Afganastan and took care of business the right way. So who gets the blame for the war, Bush? Well, Bush sure is protecting his and our country. What do you have to say about that?

Bush spent 8 years chasing after oil, how is that Clinton's fault?

We had the chance to have Bill and Hillary's expertise at a time in this country when we really needed them. It's too late now, the Chosen One is what we are stuck with instead of the Clintons who could have gotten us out of this mess.

Man! You hit it on the nail! Another COLD four years...

I am a big supporter of this war, we must win no matter how many lives and $ it takes. VOTE MCCAIN so the cause can continue. Thank you America.

There IS a smarter way to run a WAR. We shouldnt pay for this war alone. The next generation will be paying 50% of their income into paying a tax. This is bad!

How would you like to bring home 10.00? I guess the prophecy must be fulfilled.

It is ironic, I give you that. All the venom that the Obamabots spewed at Bill and Hillary during the primaries, now they need them to win. For their part, the Clinton's are showing they are above the muck by fully supporting Obama in spite of the many negatives he and his campaign threw at both Clinton's.

Alas, Obama made a fatal error in not picking Hillary for VP. If he loses, he can point to that moment as the reason.

Letha, you have some nerve. Seems to me there was a lot of butt kissing going on at the RNC with Thompson, Giuliani, and Lieberman. What's up with that? You and others like you criticize Obama for picking Biden instead of Hillary. What about the incredibly foolish pick of Palin by McCain? Seems to me, McCain turned his back on his own party instead of going with Romney, the smart choice. It's called Party Unity, so there is nothing wrong with Obama supporters embracing the help of the Clintons. You need to let this go.

Now everyone needs the Clintons, Well if Hillary was the nominee none of this mess would be happening, She would be well ahead in the polls and talking about the issues. She always talked about the issues the DNC and media just focused on the few negative things she said.

  18. Careful now..

@Anonymous: You can't see past 1992 can you. Bin Laden was a trained 'ally' to the United States during (guess what?!) a Republican president's term.

We created this monster – how dare you accuse Bill Clinton of being responsible for this!! Bush protecting this country? The world hates us, there have been over 30,000 Iraqi civilian deaths since the war, over 4,000 of our troups have died and for what? Is he caught? Is the threat over? There is just as much of a threat as ever. These people don't play conventional warfare – they are like mosquitos. You can't win a war with radicals who have no respect for their own lives.

Someone needs to slap you back to reality. That's what I have to say about that.

Republicans, Where is your president, Mr. Bush? Should he not be there in New york? You should be so proude of him that he should be there...I get it, you don't want American people to know that Bush of the same party as McCain. You want to feed the American people lies to vote for McCain so that Bush third term becomes reality. McBush = the same.

Will you and Hillary please stop helping Obama? It's so painfully obvious that Hillary was the better candidate and see how they treated you, steamrolled you and stabbed you in the back?

This race is Obama's to win or lose. Obama has always expected you and HIllary to win it for him. Too bad, so sad. I will NEVER vote for a junior senator who has accomplished absolutely nothing! I don't care who he or she might or might not be. Obama is a nothing. He offers nothing. He has no plans, just talk, talk, talk.

Please, Bill, I love you and HIllary and will always support you both. Don't do Obama anymore favors. It's time the man stood on his own two feet.

Is it me, or are the Democrats now trying to use the blood of those who died on 9/11 for their own gain? Obama, I wouldn't waste my time with Bill, who cut our military before increasing spending and left us vulnerable to attack in the first place.

Sadly, I know CNN has too much of an aversion to the truth to post this.
