Obama calls McCain-Palin 'No Maverick' in new ad

Obama's campaign released a new ad today.

Obama's campaign released a new ad today.

CNN - Barack Obama’s campaign responded to the McCain-Palin team’s new ad touting the Alaska governor’s opposition to the Bridge to Nowhere with a spot released Monday afternoon that attacks the Republican VP nominee by name for the first time.

“They call themselves mavericks. Whoa,” says the announcer in the 30-second spot. “The truth is, they’re anything but.

“John McCain is hardly a maverick when seven of his top campaign advisers are Washington lobbyists. He’s no maverick when he votes with Bush 90 percent of the time. And Sarah Palin’s no maverick either. She was for the Bridge to Nowhere before she was against it.

“Politicians lying about their records? You don’t call that maverick. You call it more of the same.”

The ad, which will air in battleground states, echoes the language of Obama’s own campaign trail attacks against the GOP ticket Monday.

“John McCain says that he is going to tell all those lobbyists in Washington that their days of running Washington are over,” Obama said at a Michigan campaign stop. “So who is it that he’s going to tell? Is he going to tell his campaign chairman? Is he going to tell his campaign manager? I mean, these are folks who have represented every major corporate interest…”

McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds said that there are no registered lobbyists currently on the payroll, “and Barack Obama knows it.”

A new CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll found those surveyed give the Democratic nominee the edge when it comes to which candidate is the “real reformer” – but McCain has narrowed Obama’s advantage on “change” from 18 to 8 percent.

  2. Ex-Republican For Obama

It is disgusting to watch how two faced and full of lies McCain and Palin are.

Just checking a few facts it becomes abundantly clear that these two incompetent fools have done NOTHING in their history that is even REMOTELY related to what they promise to do now. Facts prove that their entire talk is full of LIES...they haven't come through with a truth to date.

It is sad what the Republicans will do to gain a vote...hopefully we see through it this time. NO MORE LIES>..that means NO MORE McCain.

Cute how Tucker adds "on the payroll". If they are with the campaign and advising it it doesn't matter if they are getting paid...their payoff will come IF these two attacking, lieing frauds are elected.

Where is the blog on Palin's huge gaffe on Fannie and Freddie???

I am a resident of Wasilla, Alaska. I have known Sarah since 1992.
Everyone here knows Sarah, so it is nothing special to say we are on a
first-name basis. Our children have attended the same schools. Her
father was my child's favorite substitute teacher. I also am on a
first name basis with her parents and mother-in-law. I attended more
City Council meetings during her administration than about 99% of the
    residents of the city.

She is enormously popular; in every way she’s like the most popular
girl in middle school. Even men who think she is a poor choice and
won't vote for her can't quit smiling when talking about her because
    she is a "babe".

It is astonishing and almost scary how well she can keep a secret. She
kept her most recent pregnancy a secret from her children and parents
    for seven months.

She is "pro-life". She recently gave birth to a Down's syndrome baby.
There is no cover-up involved, here; Trig is her baby.

She is energetic and hardworking. She regularly worked out at the gym.

She is savvy. She doesn't take positions; she just "puts things out
there" and if they prove to be popular, then she takes credit.

Her husband works a union job on the North Slope for BP and is a
champion snowmobile racer. Todd Palin’s kind of job is highly
sought-after because of the schedule and high pay. He arranges his
work schedule so he can fish for salmon in Bristol Bay for a month or
so in summer, but by no stretch of the imagination is fishing their
major source of income. Nor has her life-style ever been anything
    like that of native Alaskans.

Sarah and her whole family are avid hunters.

    She's smart.

Her experience is as mayor of a city with a population of about 5,000
(at the time), and less than 2 years as governor of a state with about
    670,000 residents.

During her mayoral administration most of the actual work of running
this small city was turned over to an administrator. She had been
pushed to hire this administrator by party power-brokers after she had
gotten herself into some trouble over precipitous firings which had
given rise to a recall campaign.

Sarah campaigned in Wasilla as a “fiscal conservative”. During her 6
years as Mayor, she increased general government expenditures by over
33%. During those same 6 years the amount of taxes collected by the
City increased by 38%. This was during a period of low inflation
(1996-2002). She reduced progressive property taxes and increased a
regressive sales tax which taxed even food. The tax cuts that she
promoted benefited large corporate property owners way more than they
    benefited residents.

The huge increases in tax revenues during her mayoral administration
weren’t enough to fund everything on her wish list though, borrowed
money was needed, too. She inherited a city with zero debt, but left it
with indebtedness of over $22 million. What did Mayor Palin encourage
the voters to borrow money for? Was it the infrastructure that she said
she supported? The sewage treatment plant that the city lacked? or a

Worthless Republicans. There are lobbyists running McCain's campaign, they've just severed current lobbying ties to hide it.

Wise up America, Obama is right! I checked with, and a lot of what McCain and Palin said in their convention speeches are lies.
Haven't we had enough of being lied to over the past 8 years?

When Americans wake up to the reality of Palin being nothing more than a beauty queen in a suit, the make-up will slide off like a California mud slide!!! Along with all of the lies and emptiness.

Really Americans wake up!!! Why is Palin not own her own. Is McCain going to continuing baby sitting her the rest of this campaign. If she cannot stand on her own RIGHT NOW!!!, THEN WHY OH WHY WOULD YOU VOTE FOR HER IN NOVEMBER????

lol just because they took a some time off from their day jobs to run McCains campaign doesn't hide the truth.

its pretty telling when McCain's response is

"Hey! they aren't working there right now!"

McCain is trying to steal the "change" platform, and it does NOT work for thinking Americans who READ and LISTEN. McCain was against ANWR for 10 years, count them 10 LONG years. Now, to pander he is changing his mind? Talk about pandering! Prochoice as of May of this year, then suddenly against it? Pandering! Against lobbiests? Most of his campaign people ARE lobbiests. Pandering? Palin's record does NOT reflect her claims either. Come on people check them out youself. Don't take a pundit's word for ANYTHING. RESEARCH for youself. IT is NOT hard to do. You will be VERY surprised at what you will find out. People are lying to you, and you just don't seem to care.

Since the Republicans call themselves the party of change now, can someone change the teleprompter for Sarah? What's the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull? The pit bull has more original thoughts. Surely she can have someone write her another speech, can't she.

  23. If You Only Listen to Half the Argument, You'll Never Be 100% Right

GO OBAMA! You let the people know the truth! She can't say she was totally against it and then kept the money. She's unbelievable and so is this whole campaign this season. When did the issues start becoming the side show? I'm so disgusted sometimes I can't even watch the news. I can't wait until the debates.

Unlike many of the bloggers on here I would argue that you READ about the issues. Stop calling someone a socialist when its not true, or radical or calling McCain a Maverick because he hasn't been since 2000. I would just ask that this election stop being about people and start being about the people of this country. And I am talking to both Obama supporters and McCain supporters: stop blaming the other side for your feelings, start taking responsibility for yourselves.

Two of Palin's bestest friends in the whole wide world......are undecided and have to THINK about who they are going to vote for. But they love her to pieces. One refused to say who she was voting for. Only one said she would vote for her. Palin's mother in law is not voting for her. What does that tell you? Even Cindy McCain's sister and her own nephew are not voting for the McCain Palin ticket!
