Obama calls McCain-Palin 'No Maverick' in new ad

Obama's campaign released a new ad today.
Obama's campaign released a new ad today.

CNN – Barack Obama’s campaign responded to the McCain-Palin team’s new ad touting the Alaska governor’s opposition to the Bridge to Nowhere with a spot released Monday afternoon that attacks the Republican VP nominee by name for the first time.

“They call themselves mavericks. Whoa,” says the announcer in the 30-second spot. “The truth is, they’re anything but.

“John McCain is hardly a maverick when seven of his top campaign advisers are Washington lobbyists. He’s no maverick when he votes with Bush 90 percent of the time. And Sarah Palin’s no maverick either. She was for the Bridge to Nowhere before she was against it.

“Politicians lying about their records? You don’t call that maverick. You call it more of the same.”

The ad, which will air in battleground states, echoes the language of Obama’s own campaign trail attacks against the GOP ticket Monday.

“John McCain says that he is going to tell all those lobbyists in Washington that their days of running Washington are over,” Obama said at a Michigan campaign stop. “So who is it that he’s going to tell? Is he going to tell his campaign chairman? Is he going to tell his campaign manager? I mean, these are folks who have represented every major corporate interest…”

McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds said that there are no registered lobbyists currently on the payroll, “and Barack Obama knows it.”

A new CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll found those surveyed give the Democratic nominee the edge when it comes to which candidate is the “real reformer” – but McCain has narrowed Obama’s advantage on “change” from 18 to 8 percent.

How is McCain a Maverick if he votes 90% of the time with what Bush supports? He has been in Washington TOO LONG and she can barely find it. They can't claim to be fiscally conservative anymore or promote family values with a pregnant teen. And yes, her daughter is an issue when you represent a self-righteous hypocritical party! Palin said yes to the job knowing what she was getting into. She can exclaim Hillary was whining just months earlier and turn right around and say she is being treated unfairly now by the media. Well buck up lady! You wanted to play with the big kids, now grow up. We do not need some hillbilly bible thumper one heartbeat away that Presidency.

Let's talk about being for something before you're against it, and vice versa.

Obama was against offshore oil drilling, now? he's for it.

Obama was against NAFTA, now? not so much

Obama was against tax cuts for the rich, now? he's for 'em

Obama was against the troop surge, now? he's for it.

Obama was against the Patriot Act. now? he's voted for it.

Sounds like he holds all the same positions as McCain. I wonder why he's running against him.

Of course, all the Obamabots would rather not talk about this sutff. It gets in the way of the "facts" as they know them.

Look how he puts, "on the payroll" at the end. Tucker forgot to mention that they will get their cut if McCain gets elected. Tucker already got ripped by Campbell when he didn't have much info on their VP selection and couldn't answer a simple question.

Hillary told me to everyone, "No Way No How, No McCain"

A few mis-leading ads, a stretch of the truth here and there and some out and out lies. The Republicans throw this stuff out there and we eat it up like a bunch of hungry dogs. How dumb are we? We're proving to be quite impressionable, like the last two time! Wake up America!

I must say Palin has a soap opera life..another day, another drama. America seems to be totally fascinated with this....no need to worry about the economy or healthcare, America focuses on the important issues like poor "Track" marching off to war! (Mama is working hard to get him a comfy job state-side). Poor Track!

I was a hockey mom and if I thought that was qualification enough to be VP I would have applied for the job myself.
It is scary to think that somone as unqualified as Palin could be a mere heartbeat away from being President; let's face it McCain does not come across as robust, physically or mentally and might not last four years in office.
The country has suffered enough under 8 years of Bush misrule, a third term is the last thing we need.

Republicans have no empathy because they have not experienced the valleys of life. Thus its their way or the highway and everybody should do work hard like they do. Even though most of them forget that they are silver spoons and get into Annapolis real easy because of Dad and Grand Dads.

This election is about the haves and have nots and throughout history this is the same old story, and the way its going China, Iran, Russia, and North Korea will forman alliance and invade us real soon.

    Thank You Republicans

  16. Now, this is over can we get to the policies????

The elightenment: Your comments directly reveal you have NOT read Obama's policies and plan for America. I highly suggest you access his site should you want to know the truth and not the truths being fed to you by commercials. His plan is to cut taxes for those earning less than 250K per year. This accounts for 95% of US families and single income households.

  17. PALIN IS A CORRUPT POLITICIAN UNDER INVESTIGATION

IT IS EASY TO MATCH OBAMA 38 MILLION VIEWERS WHEN YOU LIE
AND YOU GIVE US NO CHOICE BECAUSE ON NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN AND FOX, IN ADDITION TO MSNBC, CSPAN, YOU TELEVISE THE REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVENTION LIVE, HOWEVER, DURING THE DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL CONVENTION ABC, CBS, FOX AND NBC DID NOT TELEVISE THE CONVENTION LIVE, BUT HAD REGULAR PROGRAMMING. I LOOKED FOR THE DEMOCRATIC CONVENTION ON EACH CHANNEL. I WAS ONLY ABLE TO WATCH IT ON MSNBC AND CSPAN. MANIPULATION OF PEOPLE IS HOW THE BUSH/MCCAIN AND NOW PALIN ERA HAD THRIVED AND DROVE AMERICA AND THE AMERICAN PEOPLE DOWN AND IN FEAR. WE HAVE TO FIGHT AND FIGHT HARD. WE ARE NOT STEPFORD AMERICANS.

YOU REPUBLICANS ARE FORCING PALIN DOWN OUR THROATS, A PERSON WHO IS UNDER AN ETHICS INVESTIGATION FOR ABUSE OF POWER AS SOME SUPERSTAR??? A DAY AFTER REPUBLICANS VISIT TO ALASKA 7 WITNESSES CHANGED THEIR MINDS AND BRISTOL’S BABY’S DADDY IS NOW HER NEW FIANCE WITHOUT A RING AND THEY ARE NOW THE BEAVER CLEAVER FAMILY AND NEW STARS WHEN NO ONE HEARD OF HER 2 WEEKS AGO, AND NOW THEY ARE GOING TO PUT HER IN HIDING WHILE THEY PROGRAM HER??? YEAH, SHE IS SOMETHING ALRIGHT, BUT NOT SOMETHING WE WANT.

SHE IS NO STAR. SHE IS NOT PREPARED TO LEAD. SHE IS UNDER INVESTIGATION AND THAT’S THE BEST PERSON YOU GOT. CORRUPTION IS ALL IN THIS NOMINATION AND COVER UP AND AMERICA IS NOT STUPID. SHE IS NOT THE WOMAN FOR THE JOB. COVER UP AND LIES GOT THIS COUNTRY IS THE TROUBLE IT IS IN NOW AND ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!! REPUBLICAN RULE IS OVER. AMERICA WILL LIVE AND SURVIVE AND THRIVE BECAUSE OF OBAMA AND BIDEN. PLAY YOUR TRICKS ON SOMEONE WHO HAS NOT SEEN YOUR GAME!!!!

  20. NEITHER PALIN NOR MCCAIN ARE MAVERICKS

Palin learns from the best. In her first speech she said she
fought against the good old boys and adamantly opposed
the Bridge to Nowhere, so why in 2006 did she sit next
to the good old boy and support the Bridge to Nowhere.
Now she is running with the Good Old Boy who voted
over 90% with Bush. I am a woman and Barack Obama
represents change for America and change for Americans.
Ms. Palin, please check what you did and said before you
say it on TV. Was that someone who looked liked you in
2006 who was sitting next to the Good Old Boy supporting
the Bridge to Nowhere ??? McCain’s pick is like
McCain. The Same thing. Lie to People. Hope we don’t
notice. Hope we are not smart enough to check !!!

McCain is simply outta touch with you and I. He has flip-flopped on every major issue. Now he is stealing the "Change" theme.

He picked Palin as a pretty face and a distraction which is a temporary fix. I'll give the honeymoon 2 weeks, and then it's on. Put this woman in front of an interviewer and a mic and ask her the tough questions.

McBush/Palin keep saying that there not Bush, but if your going to keep the same tax cuts and other polices, sounds like it to me. If it walks, talks and act like Bush, then it must be so. I'm not fooled by the pair of you and the rest of your mafia party. Always trying to intimidate and threaten the Americans like you did in the last election. Sounds like I need to get Michael Corleone to help us out on this election.

Under Obama, the wealthiest 1 percent of taxpayers, those making roughly $600,000 or more, would see their taxes go up on average by $93,709 in 2009, according to an analysis done by the Tax Policy Center, because Obama would begin implementing his tax changes even before the scheduled expiration of the Bush cuts.

Under McCain, those same taxpayers would see an average reduction of $48,860, reflecting in part additional cuts he is proposing.

By contrast, the bottom 20 percent of taxpayers, those with taxable income of roughly $19,000 per year or less, would see their taxes cut by an average of $567 under Obama's program and $21 under McCain's plan, the tax center estimates.

For the 20 percent of taxpayers right in the middle of the income scale, making roughly between $37,600 and $66,400, the tax break would be $1,118 under the Obama plan and $325 under the McCain plan in 2009, according to the analysis done by the tax center, a joint venture of the Urban Institute and the Brookings Institution, two Washington think tanks.
