More white women support McCain-Palin than Obama-Biden.
More white women support McCain-Palin than Obama-Biden.

(CNN) – Did John McCain's selection of Sarah Palin as his running mate cause a major shift of white women toward the Republican presidential ticket?

Not according to the latest CNN/Opinion Research Corporation polls.

The pick of Palin, the first female Republican VP candidate, was designed in part to lure women voters to the GOP ticket, with McCain aides hoping a significant proportion of that voting bloc would identify with Palin's working-mom credentials.

But in a CNN/ORC survey released Monday, McCain drew 56 percent of support from registered white women — a statistically insignificant 3 points more than his support among that demographic in the week before he picked Palin as his VP.

Read full poll results [PDF]

"In CNN/Opinion Research Corporation polls, Barack Obama was losing white women before the conventions, and he's losing them now," CNN Polling Director Keating Holland said. "His problems with this important voting bloc didn't start when Sarah Palin joined the GOP ticket."

These numbers appear to contradict findings from a recently released Washington Post/ABC News poll that suggested the Arizona senator gained 20 points among white women after Palin joined the ticket and prompted several stories of the Illinois senator's new problem with this key demographic.

But the CNN/ORC poll indicates McCain is even more popular among white women than Palin is (69 vs. 65 percent approval) — evidence his support among that demographic may be attributed to his own appeal, not Palin's. Obama and Joe Biden are also popular with white women, though not to quite the same degree: 58 percent said they held a favorable view of Obama while 55 percent said the same of Biden in the latest poll.

"White women have a favorable view of Sarah Palin, but they have a favorable view of Barack Obama and Joe Biden as well," Holland said.

White women have been a key voting bloc in several recent elections, though their support has not always proved decisive. Al Gore won the popular vote while losing among white women in 2000, and Bill Clinton captured the White House in 1992 while managing only a tie with former President George H.W. Bush.

But in 2004 President Bush carried 55 percent of the white women vote, and 52 percent of women overall — a key reason he won his bid for a second term.

I look at America in disbelief for wanting to elect the same folks that has almost brought the world's greatest economy to its knees. Over What? Gender, race or pure hatred. I think America will look back to this mistake for a long time if they make it. From my perspective, the Democrats have the far better ticket. Can't even compare…

lucy m   September 9th, 2008 7:36 pm ET

I rather vote for a brain not lipstick!! Both Palin and McCain make me sick,
Palin is an extremist and McCain is a liar.

Obama 08 would be great   September 9th, 2008 7:35 pm ET

It's laughable that republican's are insinuating that Obama called sarah palin a pig I think what he meant to say was she's a fraud and a liar and you cant dress her up to be anything but what she is. By the way were republicans offended when she called herself a pit bull in lipstick?

Greg, Indiana   September 9th, 2008 7:35 pm ET

To Go Obama! – it is the white people of this country who has Obama where he is today. So please don't EVEN talk about white bigotry! Is we were bigots, he would not have won the primaries.

james   September 9th, 2008 7:35 pm ET

When do we get a chance to hear her talk? On her own. Why so secretive? Oh, wait, she's a Republican.

Go Obama   September 9th, 2008 7:34 pm ET

I am a retired white woman , and I support Obama . I like McCain more before he picked Palin than now , because it seemed to me pandering to women as if we are not smart enough to see the difference in a qualified women and an unexperienced one, More is coming out about her that is certainly troubling to me. To think she is a heart beat away from being President ,McCain did not put 'Country First! with his choice. Just looking at his own ambitons and betting that many women would jump on his bandwagon. Looks like many have , Maybe they will start sorting through the untrue statements this "Christian " women is continuing to make,

Samantha Osbourne   September 9th, 2008 7:34 pm ET

My, how many angry comments. The only democrat defense is that McCain/Pail is the clone of Bush/Cheney. I'm bored with that strategy, surprise us with something new. Just please be mature.

Agnes   September 9th, 2008 7:34 pm ET

Community outreach is a great start and should not be littled, but it is by no means qualification for the office of President of USA. I appreciate the idealism of Barack's speeches but where is the foundation of action that I can reliably say he will champion America and not special groups? This political race is about America and how best to serve her. Sen Obama touts the democratic line but what America needs is compromise and a willingness to cross party lines; he is a liberal democrat. Likewise, the current republican base is too conservative and has not worked for the past eight years. Too much space separates the two. How best to span that gap…?
We need someone who will fight for America, not more divisiveness. I see little to commend either candidate so bring on the debates!!!!

Natalee in Canada   September 9th, 2008 7:34 pm ET

Please my American neighbours to the South…please do not get caught up in the wolf in sheep's clothing…the McCain/Palin ticket would be a nightmare…and a step backwards…and from our perspective…more of the same negativity!

THIS Democratic woman will vote for McCain/Palin. Country first, party second. The Dems foolishly nominated the wrong candidate(s). Obama is unqualified to be President and is unelectable. The DNC must be held accountable for the 2008 campaign very undemocratic debacle. This was supposed to our year. Way to blow it Dems. Hillary should be the nominee, Hillary's qualified and could have won this election in a walk. It's McCain 08 and Hillary 2012.

Bonnie   September 9th, 2008 7:33 pm ET

These white women, who are voting for McCain, their first excuse was they didn't know much about Obama, now they know nothing about about Palin, except she is a white women, how sad, and pathetic, which tells me they were not going to vote for Obama anyway, so being the pathetic racist cowards that they are, instead of being truthful about their feelings, they find any excuse(Palin) knowing full well she doesn't have a clue.

PJ   September 9th, 2008 7:33 pm ET

A news station interviewed women who are simply over the moon about Palin. When asked where Palin stood on issues all responses were "I don't know. I just like her." These are the same idiots who paid no attention to Bush and look where we're at. This is disgusting! To the cell phone nation…PLEASE VOTE! Many of your elders lost freaking minds!

BJGT   September 9th, 2008 7:33 pm ET

How long before we learn she never shot a moose?

IndependantMom   September 9th, 2008 7:32 pm ET

Palin is extreme and brings nothing to the ticket. A few months ago she had no desire to be VP, unless there was something in it for Alaska(??!), and now McCain wants to put her in the position of being a heartbeat away from the Presidency. McCain is reckless to choose her.

No, I disagree with the whole premise that she's attracting white women. Once people become well informed about Palin, they'll steer clear of the McCain-Palin ticket.

Nate   September 9th, 2008 7:32 pm ET

The recent "polls" of this election seem to show that there are large group of people living in the south and midwest that want religion and politics to mingle, care nothing about our image in the rest of the world, and are simply not listening to Barack Obama. That, or they're too attached to their party to see the wood through the trees. The intelligent voters out there knew long ago who the better candidaite in this election is…

There is a reprive from the nightmarish economy, thanks to the checks this summer. Those checks are now again, and for the next eight weeks Americans will increasingly experience the worst economy they have ever been through, save those of us who were around during the great deprssion. This will ussure in a concern for issues that will replace the superficial vote.

Mothers who vote for Sarah Palin will be voting against their own children's best interests. Most will come to understand that, those who don't were going to vote GOP anyway, the same way they did in '04 – gee thanks.

Gabrielle, Missouri   September 9th, 2008 7:32 pm ET

Jean   September 9th, 2008 7:31 pm ET

I feel sick to think that the culture wars are taking presidence over the deeper issue of today. Our country is greater than that, it has been a long struggle to understan each other and work for the better good for us all at home and abroad.

The focus should be on education, economy, energy independence,
takeing care of our men and women injured on the battle fields, taking care of the planet the infrastructure in our towns and cities and jobs jobs jobs.

Let's change the conversation and consider this country which we love an in whick we live. Our children and grand children well being is at stake.

Inexperience and lies!!!   September 9th, 2008 7:31 pm ET

It's one thing to call someone inexperience and a liar but Palin seems to have both qualities. Say what you want about how you think the democratic party treated Hillary but Palin is no Hillary. Check Hillary's resume and then check Palins. Try a book (Hillary) to a sentence (Palin)

WOMEN,
STAND UP FOR YOUR INDEPENDENT. LET AMERICA KNOW WE ARE CAPABLE OF MAKING GOOD DECISIONS AFTER LISTENING TO THE CANDIDATE. AND TELL MCCAIN, ANY WOMAN WILL NOT DO.

Hey. I'm 62 and I made my first ever campaign contribution to a political candidate online today. Only $200 but it will be worth it to kick out the Republicans who have made a mess out of the economy.

Republicans like to talk about fiscal conservatism…they just don't practice it.

Clinton left office with a huge budget surplus. The Republicans wasted every dime of it and wound up putting this country billions of dollars in the hole

OBAMA for president!!!!!

VN   September 9th, 2008 7:31 pm ET

I agree with you that it is getting too much talking about palin by the news people. I'm getting to the point of not wanting to turn on my tv anymore although I want to hear other things. America is in need badly and desperately a person who can lift America up again and that means America should look squarely at the support of the candidate from the international level not just American vote because that's how the president is going to get involve with other nations. Regarding Sarah Palin, to my opinion she is absolutely qualified and respected as a governor but she is not ready yet for vice president. I think one of the problem is also she has already carrying a lot of problem with her and behind her from her family issues to her job ethics and to her faith and so forth. Trust me this job is nothing like you go to one building to work everyday with same people. It has a huge task to carry here at home and abroad. So I hope America will not make mistake. I guess its just her persona that attracted many American who doesn't really care about issues.

LP   September 9th, 2008 7:30 pm ET

My, it is SOOO interesting to read all the liberal bloggers babble. You are the ones who are out of touch and, pardon me, but your insecurities are showing. Go Sarah!

Sandra   September 9th, 2008 7:30 pm ET

We have a President that thinks God speaks to him and now we have a canidate that thinks that God wants the war in Iraq.Look where Bush has taken us and just think of the increased mess we will be in if she is anywhere in the White House. We would have more of the same and I really don't see how we could survive as a nation.
Any one that supported Clinton would not support this woman..her views are not even close to trhe platform that Hillary brought to the table. No one mentions the Keating 5…Mc Cain was my Senator and walked away from that mess…he had ample time in the Congress to help enact all the tings he advocates now..he is a good old boy and you certainly don't change your votes and views at 72.No way no how…No Mc cain and the gun and oil advocating hot mama..Never

So this begs the question……what are white women afraid of???
One look into the future with McCain/Palin at the helm frightens the heck out of me. Hands down, the intelligent vote is on Obama/Biden…is that what scares white women??? Smarts?

Watchful Enthusiast   September 9th, 2008 7:30 pm ET

I was happy to see most of the comments on this issue. It pains me that fellow Americans do not see how the Republican machinery is using gimmicks to get attention and from how things stands now, it seems as though they will succeed.

How is not clear that John Mc Cain chose this woman just to win the election and not in the best interest of the nation as he often claims? We have lost so much respect from people around the world where people who used to look at us in admiration, now look at us with contempt and disgust as the Republican government continue to show how arrogant they are……. What happened in Berlin is just a window into how people will begin to see us once again when ( and I mean when and not if) Barack Obama becomes president.

I'm still watching………….

Tony   September 9th, 2008 7:30 pm ET

It's so funny to see all you liberals on here crying and begging Americans to "stop being so stupid" by voting republican. When are you going to realize that you are WRONG!!! Americans love freedom and liberty which is why they continue to refuse your liberal agendas. Sooner or later you will whiners will catch on.

Lone Wolf MD   September 9th, 2008 7:30 pm ET

Does John McCain suffer from post traumatic syndrome? Why did S. Palin attend so many colleges? Scares me to death that an angry old soldier and an ex-beauty queen, hockey, pit bull, fighter wants to lead the country. America needs THINKERS, to think America out the mess all that experience has led us. Like many people, I do not like hockey and I am an American-not a Georgian. I do wish the Georgians good luck.

I hope CNN post this one:

I have one suggestion for all Obama voters. If you really think that JOHN MCCAIN and SARA PALIN are Liers, then please roll up your sleeves and go to the rural areas of your States and Cities and communities, and explain door to door HOW REPUBLICANS specially JUINOR CHEYNEY, PALIN, is fooling RURAL AMERICA, and tell them THE REAL TRUTH AND NEWS.

The problem with America is that not everyone specially in the Rural Areas watch CNN or news channels, they just see the ads on their local channel or go to local events. AND if someone like Palin lies to them in those local events, they think it's truth.

THAT's HOW REPUBLICAN WON the past two elections:

LIE to AMERICA, DIVIDE THEM and CONQUER

Why doesn't he just move to Europe? They love him, because he is like them!

Jose Guardiola   September 9th, 2008 7:29 pm ET

Mr. Obama,

I believe you to be a decent and honorable man, who would make an exceptional president. Unfortunately I sense that your inate sense of fair play badly under-estimates to what depths the Republicans will sink to win. They govern very badly, but they're very good at winning elections. Please, please, please!!! For the sake of our country and the world that our children will be born into, fight these people with every tool at your disposal. Otherwise, they wil steal, lie, cheat and do anything they can to retain power. It's they only thing they're really good at.

Olivia   September 9th, 2008 7:28 pm ET

I heard that Obama said that you can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig. Seems to be a slanted reference to Palin's remark about the hockey mom compared to a pit bull she made during the convention.

Palin was saying that hockey moms are not pushovers, they can be tough. I think Obama was calling her and hockey moms pigs, even if they wear lipstick to disguise it. That's how i see it.
Sarah Palin is no pig. She's much much cuter than Michelle. She seems warmer and nicer and happy.

There are a lot of people right now that is in Alaska trying to find dirt on her. No success so far. She has to learn to go on with the business ahead and ignore the hostility. she has to realize that nothing can be worse than Wright.

I saddened by the personal attacks you promised to steer clear of. It is easy to take the high road when you are ahead in the polls. It is a lot tougher when you are behind. Show us why we should believe in you. Stop the personal attacks.

If women are stupid enough to for for Palin based only on her gender, and ignore the fact they are voting against their own self interest, then they deserve what they get.

For those women considering McCain/ Palin, consider the following, your personal right choice, educational opportunities and health care for your children, equal pay for equal work, a stable economy and housing market, and a safer world. I promise you, if you take the time to educate yourself on these issues, instead of letting the Republican's spoon feed you lies and propaganda, you'll have to admit to yourself Obama/Biden is the a feminist's choice.

And as for you Hillary supporters considering Palin, you only need listen to what the woman is saying, NO WAY, NO HOW, NO MCCAIN/PALIN!

When women learn more about Sarah Palin her support among that group will shrink. Is it any wonder that her support is growing, especially considering that the public knows next to nothing about her and she still has yet to give a substantive interview or talk without a script and teleprompter?

The media needs to be doing its job – we only have 57 days to get to know enough about her to decide if she is ready to be VP, or President, and the only interview she has done so far is with People Magazine! Can you imagine if this was the Democratic VP nominee? The conservatives would be going crazy.

I'm a McCain supporter, and this is great and all, but this is really not the most important news. Are you going to post one about spanish women or black women, or evangelicals, or mormons, or catholics. I mean, this really isn't news CNN. Earlier this year, I was anti- Fox News because of how much they loved Romney. Now that Romney is gone, Fox News has actually reported good news on their website. Check it out. It actually has important stuff. I mean when you go to cnn.com, the main headline is about lance armstrong coming out of retirement. That is great, but to put it as the top story is not cool.

John McCain opposed a bill earlier this year that would have advanced …

EQUAL PAY FOR EQUAL WORK

… to women.

I can't cite the bill but there was a news story about it because McCain said he didn't want to give women the right to take employers to court over this type of discrimination. Hopefully someone out there in the blogsphere has those minute details to tie this all together.

Ms. Palin, as McCain's VP, will be toeing this public line …. she will have to back John up on this. Unfortunately, he probably doesn't have to twist her arm to do so.

What woman, in her right mind, would sell out her sisters like this?

What woman voter, knowing these facts, would yell, cheer, support, back McCain through Palin?

You couldn't make this stuff up if you tried.

McCain is stupid, a lousy speaker, and wrong on most issues – and definitely a maverick. An Ms. Palin is nothing more than a would-be theocrat, who believes that her and her 'mission' derives from the Almighty. Sounds like a rerun. What's saddest and most disappointing is that he picked this woman, with full knowledge that she is by and large UNQUALIFIED to lead this country, and in utter disregard for the well-being of the American people, just so that he could garner more of the female vote. So very sad, if he wanted home health care or someone to take care of him like a mommy would, there are services that could have helped the old man out. Sarah has enough kids to take care of.

WOMEN BEWARE:

McCain has voted AGAINST ALL woment's rights and issues.
McCain/Paling want to take away a woman's right to choose.
They don't believe in equal pay for equal work .
THEY WILL SET WOMEN BACK! Palin is not Hillary!
Look at the issues and don't fall for this gimmick!

Obama has supported and voted FOR ALL women's rights and issues!

Mike   September 9th, 2008 7:20 pm ET

I may be in denial but I just cannot believe that women, particularly WHITE women are that vacuous to the McCain/Palin smokescreen. Bush Lite is using you!!!! Why else did he pick "Moose Raider" over Joe Liberman who he truly wanted.

Are you that bitter that Hillary didn't get the nod that you'd put your own country at risk with these two just for spite? She's not Hillary!

It just reluctantly makes me think that this all stems down to RACE. Quite sad.

Kentucky   September 9th, 2008 7:20 pm ET

I cannot believe that John Mccain thinks that American females are so easy to manipulate. He may have done a little personal manipulating in his time, but what makes him think that woman will sell their souls to the Republican party and suffer another four years under McBush and Gerorgette Palin? I really don't think that his bag of tricks will work .

Beth2008   September 9th, 2008 7:20 pm ET

Those women supporting the McCain/Palin ticket must really be listening to ads rather than doing their own research. I cannot believe any woman would vote for Palin just to see a woman as president….I am a woman and it is scary to think that someone like Palin could be commander in chief should something happen to McCain. I am hoping for the best this november, but I am realistic and understand that Americans vote in a not-so-intelligent way, after all: Bush was elected twice, so what does that say about people's ability to cast an intelligent vote? Please use your brain and send a loud message to republicans, let's make sure the democrats get elected in November, so that this country can get back on track.

Amy, Kazoo   September 9th, 2008 7:20 pm ET

Not THIS white woman. Palin is like Cheney incarnate. Who is the devil's spawn, by the way….

Ron   September 9th, 2008 7:19 pm ET

The Palin craze with women shows the mentality of today's women. The "any woman will do, just get a woman in the white house" mentality will destroy this country. Maybe women should go back to not voting like the good old days.

How do you know this? You didn't ask me and I'm a white woman. Don't exaggerate the truth here. Maybe you did a poll or asked 100 white women and 51 said they'd support McCain-Palin. The truth is exaggerated here and it's disgusting! Be responsible journalists or don't you know what that means anymore???????????????

Palin's credentials are so fraudulent. Why else are the Republicans not trusting her to be out on her own in this campaign, and restricting her spoken words to be just repeats of her convention script? What are they afraid of? Whatever it is, the American people should be afraid of it too.

There is no way I'd support the McCain/Palin ticket — especially given the probabilty that the VP in a McCain administration would likely eventually become president.

Why McCain Thinks He Will Win:   September 9th, 2008 7:18 pm ET

1. He had a father and grandfather get him to his rank in the military. (He was too dumb to do it himself);
2. He lured/lied and married a rich woman; (He is an adulterer)
3. He was a POW. (Did you know that?);
4. He hangs out with lobbyists who protect him. (More like the mofia);
5. He has the endorsement of G. Bush; (most of us would not want it); and
6. He has many rich friends supporting him. (He thinks only of the rich-which will be his downfall).

Guess what McCain – THESE ARE THE REASONS YOU WON'T WIN. Americans are too smart for you and your female.

This father/daughter team makes G. W. look good.

Go Obama/Biden!

katrina   September 9th, 2008 7:18 pm ET

Here is what it is: white guys ashamed of not wanting to vote for a black guy who carried their interests at heart used to tell pollsters they'd vote Obama (even though they wouldn't have). Now they vote for McCain, for whom they would have voted anyway, but they feel more comfortable saying so because they're also voting for a woman, thus proving to themselves that they're not neanderthals.

Obama 08 would be great   September 9th, 2008 7:18 pm ET

I thought that us women were suppose to be smart

Why would any woman in her right mind vote for a man that only threw a woman on his ticket to attract woman?

Do you think he chose her becaue of her views, personality, intellect?

He spoke with the woman one time before picking her she wants to take away our rights she hasnt even spoken to the media and you will vote for just because she's a woman?

ran   September 9th, 2008 7:18 pm ET

CNN how about for the rest of this election you concentrate only on the issues and get all the candidates to state their positions on those issues and stop the hype-reporting.

Be the free press we need now more then ever.

Just think how you could help this country by reporting on the issues and let the other news outlets do the hype-reporting. Believe me we would appreciate this.

This election is too important to be decided on personalities.

Logic   September 9th, 2008 7:14 pm ET

I believe all women (and probably men too) have some sort of basic instinct of being "precious". They will respect someone who can be "precious" because to be such a thing is not easy. Too many temptations to become "precious".

Palin somewhat has proved herself to be a "precious" woman if not perfect. Deep in every people's heart, they respect more true evangelical Christian women than the liberal ones. Because they know in these modern days it's hard to find a true purely heart woman. And they find them mostly in Christian evangelicals.

On the other it's very easy to find the liberal women.

Gov. Palin is not only smart, good-looking but also due to her deep Christian faith, she is somewhat much more "precious" especially if compared with liberal women.

Because of this, I think not only white women, but also white men, black women, black men and everyone who see that "precious thing" is invaluable. Much more precious than gold, much more precious than silver.

Trysh, Los Angeles   September 9th, 2008 7:14 pm ET

We do not "owe" John McCain entree into the White House because he was tortured as a POW.

We do not "owe" Sarah Palin a free ride to "Number One Observatory Circle" …. the Vice Presidential residence because she is a woman that decided not to have an abortion.

Ms Palin's election would place a heavy weight on future women qualifed for the Presidency. Sarah will not be viewed as credible in the 2nd in command role and this will impact a generation of voters for the forseeable future. It may not be fair, but she will take women backwards I'd say about 16 years.

I can't follow McCain nor his "political pick" for VP

Maggie   September 9th, 2008 7:13 pm ET

I am a white woman who is disappointed in the judgement of American women- if we are going to vote for Palin because she is a woman we are throwing away everything that Hilary and all other women have worked for. Feminism is about choice- shoot guns and head back to the office the day after you give birth? Fine. Can afford to be a stay at home mom? Fine. The McCain Palin ticket is about restricting rights, and as we have seen changing the game and the moral high ground to suit them. If all of these women are so easily swayed, maybe we don't want a woman in the white house after all?
The election of THIS woman will ruin any chances Hilary has in the next election or two. Once the McCain Palin ticket royally screws us- and they will- people will say – we gave a woman a chance and look. . .

Deborah   September 9th, 2008 7:13 pm ET

I am a close to 60 white woman in rural Maryland. I was just called for the first time in my life for a poll — the Rasmussen Poll. The next poll of polls that comes out darn sure better show that at least one person said they "strongly disagree" with the statement about Palin leading this country!

I know many white women who are not for McCain/Palin. Palin is the talk around the office and I work for a large financial company with about 800 employees in the building. We as women, are horrified that John McCain that cries Country First , and a heartbeat away from leaving here, would jeopardize our lives and pick a unqualified woman as VP.

We have no respect for a woman who has 5 children and a daughter who is having a child to put her career before raising her kids. Good mothers raise their children, and not nannies. This is probably the reason why her oldest daughter got pregnant. Palin was never home.

Some women want it all, but with that choice comes downfalls. I have raised 5 grown children myself , and I don't care what women rights groups say, your children need you as a parent to be there for them. Not in the white house. Many women I know feel, "You will know them by the fruit they bare. This is my opinion and some other women I know.

Mary Ann from New Jersey   September 9th, 2008 7:11 pm ET

Don't insult this woman. I know next to nothing about whats her name. In fact, all that I know for certain, is she's white, she's a woman and she is the Gov. of Alaska. This may be acceptable to some weak minded women, but not me.

I don't know what her qualifications to be VP or President are. Would she be able to step into John McCains shoes if something should happen to him? That question has not been answered to my satisfactions.

I don't know what's what anymore with this race…

Like the 2004 race, all I can do is support who I want to win and the rest is out of our hands.

If Americans are silly enough to put another set of Republicans in office, well then they get what they deserve….

Just like they thought another 4 years of Bush was a good idea…and then they turned around and complained about how bad a president he is…. once you cast that vote, it's too late to complain. We ALL just have to deal with the consequences.

That's why this whole discussion about "experience" is moot… Some times just having BRAINS goes a looonngg way. People just aren't being smart.

Ignorant people, supporting dimwitted candidates for the wrong reasons…then act shocked when things go wrong…. Good luck.

Jim   September 9th, 2008 7:10 pm ET

I know pollsters like to analyze voters' gender and ethnicities to explain elections. So President Bush carried 55 percent of the white women vote in 2004 — a key reason he won his bid for a second term!

But TWO TERMS of Bush/Cheney is enough! I still can't think of a single important issue on which McCain – and especially Palin – differ from Bush/Cheney, except personalities. Can anybody name one!

Let's resurrect the GOP's1940 election slogan: NO THIRD TERM!

Franklin D. Roosevelt complelty deserved a 3rd term, but not Bush/McCain!

This chick doesn't think global warming is a problem, she is scary!!!

From Ed Koch:

I have concluded that the country is safer in the hands of Barack Obama, leader of the Democratic Party and protector of the philosophy of that party. Protecting and defending the U.S. means more than defending us from foreign attacks. It includes defending the public with respect to their civil rights, civil liberties and other needs, e.g., national health insurance, the right of abortion, the continuation of Social Security, gay rights, other rights of privacy, fair progressive taxation and a host of other needs and rights.

If the vice president were ever called on to lead the country, there is no question in my mind that the experience and demonstrated judgment of Joe Biden is superior to that of Sarah Palin. Sarah Palin is a plucky, exciting candidate, but when her record is examined, she fails miserably with respect to her views on the domestic issues that are so important to the people of the U.S., and to me. Frankly, it would scare me if she were to succeed John McCain in the presidency.

It seems to me that these polls are not giving women a lot of credit. The women during my mother's time would love this but modern women of today will not fall for this madness. This woman does not stand for anything a modern working mother stand for. We want our daughters to have the same choices that we have and the same for our grand daughters. We have made so much progress and i can not believe that any woman today will want to take any steps back. We are on our way to the future.

The McCain Train broke down months ago and now he has found a new ride to get him to the White House. It is so sad that this woman does not see that she is being used by a Politician for one reason only. I guess she is so excited by the thought that she would be one weak heartbeat away from the most powerful office in the free world makes all ok to her even if she knows she is not ready to step in and take that lead.

When McCain become the trophy wife in this election. Every time I see him his standing in the background, slightly off to side side, grinning and nodding his head. Say something, man, anything. Explain to me how you plan to change in ingrained culture from the top down. Okay, so you're a maverick and bucked the party. Looks to me like the party has been saying, "screw you" McCain and will continue to do so. If in 26 years the man's one claim to fame is going against his party, it begs the question, "Why hasn't the party moved toward him." Unless you can improve "reform" a man's principles, values and what esteems him, you cannot change the man. Folks, it's not about the mover, it's about the movement. McCain cannot and will not reform the USA because his supporters are about what will be done for them, not what they will do for others. Government is tasked to do for us what we cannot do for ourselves. Morality cannot be legislated…ask Moses. There are to many important questions that McCain/Palin just don't have an intent on answering.

Any intelligent woman would be very frightened of Palin and
what she stands for. We will not vote for her because
she is a female as some of you seem to believe.
She does not represent us or our beliefs and desires.
She will be a continuation of Mccain/Bush policies which
have voted against equality, equal pay, sex education in
school, freedom of choice and is even more radical
than Bush.
We could not, would not continue with policies that
have made our children, grandchildren etc victims
for decades to come.
We would not, could not support policies that have
almost destroyed our country.
We will not support a man who is war hungry and wants
to bring back the draft.
A man who has no idea or cares about the survival of
America, except how he sees it in is thwarted mind.

Not all the white women are voting for McCain. We are thinking women that have real concerns for the issues and we are not persuaded by the Republican tricks and lies. We don't care about Sarah…we see John McCain as more of the same.

White people spent all year complaining they didn't "know Obama".

Now the GOP has their own "Obama", except she is an attractive white woman…and what do white voters do? Swing to her in 10 days flat while knowing absolutely NOTHING about her record, background, etc.

BIGOTRY IS AN UGLY TRAIT.

Lesley   September 9th, 2008 7:04 pm ET

Why is this Ticker reporting frivilous polls? How about reporting on Palin's record on the environment, for instance? Or any of her positions on any number of important issues, like the "holy" war in Iraq? She is making speeches on the campaign trail that are misleading, that contain half truths, and CNN is not reporting the whole story behind her voting record or on her views on issues. Another ticker headline in this series boasts that McCain was moved to a larger venue. The story tells that they were asked to move because they were holding a partisan event on school grounds. Why not make that the headline? CNN has become McCNN.

I think women are smarter than this, who could really fall for this obvious ploy?

Breck I used to think the same thing until Palin got on the ticket. Voting for gender seems to be the theme.

sonya   September 9th, 2008 7:04 pm ET

Close your eyes, forget race and gender. What information do you gain when you hear the facts of the economy, the future of Your children, not the candidates. Can you honestly say that Mccain and Palin are honest about their goals for the future. Or is it McCain continuing his interest in power as it was so elegantly highlighted in "Mccain Reveal." McCain used Cindy, he used peers around him, and now he is using Sarah. At the end of the day, it is your home, your job and your bank account. Be wise and in your decision. It could cost you or your love ones their life or livelihood.

Go Barack!

I AM SO TURNED OFF BY HER JUST WHEN SHE STARTS TO SPEAK AND SPREAD ALL THOSE LIES AGAIN AND AGAIN I FEEL LIKE I HAVE TO VOMIT!

Texico From Mexico   September 9th, 2008 7:04 pm ET

If she is then White Women need to wake up and at least see who they are dealing with! First of all what has she discussed? Anything of substance except utter remakrs about others? She has a terrible record as Govenor of Alaska…but I think these women want a woman in the White House at any cost….and thats the truth of the matter. At least women who were voting for Hillary because of her policies and positons on issues had some intelligence. But sadly the so called Wal-Mart mom has no intelligence…why? Becuause Obama has been the only one talking about education….about Health Care, about the real issues that matter. These women are willing to accept another four years of hell for us all, just so they can say they have a female in the White House…sad.

If nothing else, learn about your choice! You want to lose your rights? you want extremist views that include TRYING to get books banned, want to loose your right to choose?

Women Need to Think!   September 9th, 2008 7:04 pm ET

I am a white woman and I just can't believe my fellow women are so out there. How can anyone vote for Sarah just because she is a woman? Give me a break! Hillary is so much more prepared to lead our country. I wasn't a Hillary supporter but I do admire her. Sarah is no where at the same level. I do not believe Sarah has the experience to lead us if John McCain would die. This is a very scary thought. I hope American women wake up from the Republican spell and elect the correct team, Obama/Biden!!!!!!

Palin's candidacy confirms that gender is a big issue that the political parties need to address. This issue goes beyond race or religion. .We witnessed it with Hillary & now with Palin. Of course, she is going to influence in my vote.

God is more than intelligent. God is the beginning & the end.

We should never mix religion with politics. But many of us, want to use it as a weapon to defeat their opponent. Who are we trying to fool? Only ourselves.

Correction: RACIST White Women who would rather support a white woman whose record proves she does not support equality for women than vote for a black man who does. Palin believes no abortions even if you're raped or the victim of incest. Plain believes creationism and not sex education should be taught in our schools.

There shouldn't be one woman in the United States holding a sign with her name on it. This woman would have us squabbling over abortion rights and gay marriage for the next 4 to 8 years rather than preparing our children for a global economy and doing something about global warming. This woman wants this teenage pregnancy is "typical" in America while a kid from a modest home getting an ivy league education is something to scoff at. She is NO EXAMPLE FOR WOMEN–AT LEAST NOT IN THIS CENTURY.

NO PALIN–NO WAY!!

Sarah Palin is a totally self-centered & ruthless politician who takes lying to an art form. Believe the bull that the McCain-Plain camp is spewing if you want, but take it from an Alaskan, this woman is a disaster in progress. In an action reminiscent of her firing all the Wasilla city employees that disagreed with her, troopergate, etc, there is one thing the oil company controlled Palin campaign is doing a good job at keeping quiet..she is little by little moving the capital of Alaska to Anchorage/Wasilla…something she totally denied in her campaign for governor. This is with the full knowledge that doing this will destroy thousands of Juneau residents financially. Anyone who believes this woman is not a total puppet of big oil and greedy Alaskan business interests, needs to get a reality check!

Another potential Palin rumor/scandal could be about to surface. A colleague forwarded a You Tube type video of a young AA teen male claiming he is the real father of Bristol Palin's baby. I have no idea if there is any truth to his allegation. It would seem only a matter of time before someone forwards this video to the MSM. It could be a hoax. While watching it, I did think when does all of this end. And for the record, I am a female.

Dear Women,
Don't forget how the democratic leadership treated their first viable presidential candidate…they basically wanted her out. It is a small tent in the democratic party. Go McCain- Palin.

The Truth   September 9th, 2008 6:58 pm ET

"If the vice president were ever called on to lead the country, there is no question in my mind that the experience and demonstrated judgment of Joe Biden is superior to that of Sarah Palin. Sarah Palin is a plucky, exciting candidate, but when her record is examined, she fails miserably with respect to her views on the domestic issues that are so important to the people of the U.S., and to me. Frankly, it would scare me if she were to succeed John McCain in the presidency." -Ed Koch

Joe in StL   September 9th, 2008 6:58 pm ET

It's not that Palin polls BETTER among men, it's that she polls WORSE among women.

This is because women in this country are PRO-CHOICE, and they don't want Palin to be able to have any influence on Supreme Court nominees.

All people, women, men, old, young, black, white, and so on, VOTE for the constitutional law professor, Obama, and restore our faith in the constitution.

When the lipstick wears off!!   September 9th, 2008 6:58 pm ET

When Sara Palins lipstick wears off us women, who haven't done our research, will see the true pitbull. Just read what the former Mayor of New York City – Ed Koch had to say about Palin.

Direct quote:

"Sara Palin is a plucky, exciting, candidate, but when her record is examined, she fails miserably with respect to her views on the domestic issues that are so important to the people of the U.S., and to me. Frankly, it would SCARE me if she were to succeed John McCain in the Presidency."

THE MAKE UP IS FADING!!!

Ina   September 9th, 2008 6:58 pm ET

Unfortunately the pumas are voting based on their emotions. I was a Hillary but when she lost and she did lose fair and square I switched over to Obama. The pumas and other people supporting McCain/Palin need to take the time to find out what these candidates stand for and from what I have seen they do not stand for much. If Obama loses he can afford McCain benefits for rich people however many of the people who voted against him will still be complaining how the country is going in the wrong direction and they can blame themselves for picking McCain/Palin.

White, Female, and appalled by Palin...   September 9th, 2008 6:58 pm ET

I wouldn't vote for Sarah Palin if she were even moderate in her politics! A woman who portrays herself as a "pitbull with lipstick", outs her pregnant teen daughter in prime time to avoid political scandal, carries her baby on stage for the "Awww" factor, doesn't support abortion for rape and incest victims, and even thinks she's in the same league as Hillary has some sort of complex – not sure what the shrinks would name it, but there's something wrong there…. A model for young women? How can Cindy McCain sleep at night?

I hope someone made McCain choose Palin instead of Lieberman because if she really was his pick – my opinion of him is now below ground level too.

Jessica Ferry   September 9th, 2008 6:57 pm ET

What scares me about Palin is her reigniting the culture wars just when America was starting to at least appear to move beyond that ugly era. There is no place in Washington for someone who is so overtly religious about her politics, particularly when she has such extremist positions. If a politician actually believes that a war is God's will…specifically she said that the war effort in Iraq is "from God"…he/she should not say that out loud. It sounds, for lack of a better way of putting it, what someone in the middle east would say about the war against America. While my personal faith is deep, I DO NOT believe God involves him/herself in wars nor favors one group over another. We are fighting that type of extremism, not trying to emulate it!!!!

kim hussein taylor portland, oregon   September 9th, 2008 6:57 pm ET

Mrs. Texas Teacher   September 9th, 2008 6:56 pm ET

I suspect that white women who want abortion rights turned around and are more interested in the Christian Right agenda will, of course, prefer McCain/Palin. While white women who truly want a change, want to support a woman's right to chose, and watch issues as well as check out what is said instead of just taken the campaign talks at face value; will want Obama/Biden.

The economy is still the issue, women who have sons and daughters in harm's way, want the war to end, teachers want better school funding, insurance and health care are a major issue with most women as well as equal pay for equal work. I think women are just as savvy about these issues as men. The women who voted for Hillary are not going to fooled by Palin's mostly fabricated claims.

I was originally swayed by her pro-life credentials and her "hutzpa", but now that we know she is being investigated for financial and ethical abuses it looks like another Republican bad apple. Are they all corrupt? USA today is reporting online tonight that Gov. Palin paid herself $17,000 in per diem payments for being at home instead of the actual purpose of the reimbursement, which is supposed to be used for meals and lodging for travel. Embezzelment and fraud? So I'm giving up on this lady. Too bad, because I liked her pro-life credentials.

Um, yeah.

This week's mainstream coverage of the presidential horse-race has been dominated by a series of polls showing the McCain-Palin ticket with its first stable lead over Obama and Biden. Gallup's tracking poll, USA Today and CBS News all show the Republicans with some kind of lead over the Democratic ticket. But, interestingly, all three polls were also conducted using a higher sampling of Republican voters than in July, thus raising a question of methodology.

Just imagine, as an American, waking up after election day to KNOW that McCain-Palin are your new leaders for the next 4-8 years:

1. How can you ever forgive yourself for such a fatal mistake?

2. What will happen to your beloved Constitution?

3. Bush had a father who was a President, yet look at where America is after 8 years. Did the Repubicans deliver what they promised? Will they deliver for the next 4-8 years or clean up their own mess?

4. What would you live to tell your children about this wonderful opportunity for change? Was it "racially or simply party motivated? And is it really worth the RISk you took? Think, think, and think again– God is an intelligent, not an EMOTIONAL ….!
