McCain and Palin once again play 'Barracuda'

Heart guitarists Nancy and Ann Wilson don't want the McCain campaign to play their song.
Heart guitarists Nancy and Ann Wilson don't want the McCain campaign to play their song.

LEBANON, Ohio (CNN) – The rock band "Heart" may have asked John McCain and Sarah Palin stop playing their song "Barracuda" at their rallies, but the campaign is apparently paying no heed.

The track - played at the Republican National Convention in honor of the Vice Presidential nominee, who earned the nickname "Sarah Barracuda" playing high school basketball in Alaska - was pumped through the streets of Lebanon, Ohio on Tuesday morning at an outdoor rally before the GOP ticket showed up.

Earlier: Heart condemns McCain-Palin use of 'Barracuda'

When the song was played after Palin's convention speech last week, the band members quickly requested that McCain and Palin pull the plug.

"Sarah Palin's views and values in no way represent us as American women," Ann and Nancy Wilson told Entertainment Weekly. "We ask that our song 'Barracuda' no longer be used to promote her image."

But the McCain camp said last week that it had paid for and obtained all necessary licenses before using the song.

And the band's former guitarist, Roger Fisher, told Reuters last week that the McCain camp’s use of the song benefited both sides: Republicans get "the ingenious placement of a kick-ass song" - and Heart gets headlines and royalties. Part of that money, said Fisher, would be heading to the Arizona senator’s opponent: "With my contribution to Obama's campaign, the Republicans are now supporting Obama," he told Reuters.

is palin refering to the permafund that was in place long before she was elected govener. if so she is claiming credit for things she did not create but inherited from laws already in existence. The more I hear her her claims of accomplishments the more deceptons I am hearing. from some one who spent 2 summers in Alaska in the 90'

  2. Common Sense

Ok, ok, ok...I can understand that someone have the right to pick which ever they feel like for POTUS. But please compare both candidates on the issues, not on their appeal or values. Try to understand their vision for this country and see what they will do for your family in terms of education, health care and all other subjects that matters to you. That's why we elect them in office. When the election season is over, you will have to understand the consequences of your choice for 4 years may impact the future of your family.

No one can really predict how each candidate will lead/govern until they are in office. I don't think either candidate is perfect. But I am begging everyone one in here to reflect on their choice before making a mistake, regardless who you beleive can lead us out of this mess. Please use common sense.

All McCain does is stand with a silly smile and lets Palin say what a good job she has done in Alaska. Let her take all her conservetive ideas back to Alaska and see if she can get the kids to stay in school long enough to get an education before they start Mouse hunting or a family

Even though the Wilson sisters asked the McCain camp not to use the song, they do it anyway. Typical arrogant, GOP response to everything!

  6. MAVERICK AND THE MARE

Did the Mare cut spending? You decide from Factcheck.

"Those who claim that Palin cut special needs funding by 62 percent are looking in the wrong place and misinterpreting what they find there. They point to an apparent drop in the Department of Education and Early Development budget for special schools. But the special schools budget, despite the similar name, isn't the special needs budget. "I don’t even consider the special schools component [part of] our special needs funding," Jeans told FactCheck.org. "The special needs funding is provided through our public school funding formula. The special schools is simply a budget component where we have funding set aside for special projects," such as the Alaska School for the Deaf and the Alaska Military Youth Academy. A different budget component, the Foundation Program, governs special needs programs in the public school system."

For the so called Hilary supporters voting for McCain /Palin, please stop calling yourself a Hilary supporter. the truth is you support McCain, plain and simple so either you are for the person Hilary is supporting ( Obama) or you not, but please don't say you are a Hilary suporter. You are placing you vote with the GOP and everything that comes with it..

CNN, I don't understand why you don't allow comments on your stories. You used to. Are you getting feedback that your news organization appears to be pro-McLiar? You tone down the the negatives stories on Senator Obama, but are also not reporting the ones on Palin, for example how she billed her state for 312 nights that she was at home with her family. Wolf, Candy and Campbell you are slipping, you do not want to write anything negative on PalinBush and McLiar.

    Country first McCain – LOL
Your first tern as a senator had a lot left to be desired. You had to pay 250,000.00 monies back to another big wig from 1987, Savings and Loan Scandal. Although you were cleared by the standard back then, you were rebuked by the US Senate for bad judgement.

We want more than a name changer

Say or do anything to get elected. now we know who breaks under pressure.

Call that a maverick, Reckless yes

What did mcCain accomplish that earned him that name between 1986-1992.

    Change by the people!

"Barracuda" is supposedly about crooks and thieves.

It's as dumb as when political events play "Born in the USA." That song is about people getting screwed by their own country. It's not an patriotic anthem, it's a bitter indictment.

I thought Ann and Nancy Wilson were Canadian.
