McCain camp says Biden 'sunk to a new low'

Was Biden referencing Palin in his comments about stem cell research?
Was Biden referencing Palin in his comments about stem cell research?

(CNN) - John McCain's campaign hit back hard at Joe Biden Tuesday after the Democratic VP candidate appeared to suggest Republicans who do not support stem cell research - like GOP VP candidate Sarah Palin - are lacking in their support of children with disabilities.

“Barack Obama’s running mate sunk to a new low today launching an offensive debate over who cares more about special needs children," McCain-Palin spokesman Ben Porritt said. "Playing politics with this issue is disturbing and indicative of a desperate campaign."

The sharp response, indicative of the increasingly heated rhetoric from both presidential campaigns as the election enters the final stretch, came shortly after Biden said advocates for people with disabilities should support stem cell research.

Biden did not mention Palin - the mother of a baby with Down syndrome, and someone who has said she will be a “friend and advocate in the White House" to parents of children with disabilities - but seemed to direct a question to her.

Election Center: Where the candidates stand on stem cell research

“I hear all this talk about how the Republicans are going to work in dealing with parents who have both the joy…and the difficulty of raising a child who has a developmental disability, who were born with a birth defect,” he said. “Well, guess what folks? If you care about it, why don't you support stem cell research?”

Biden spokesman David Wade insisted Tuesday the Delaware senator's comments were not directed at Palin.

"This is a clash of policies, not a clash of personalities," Wade said. "We've heard not a dime's worth of difference between the McCain-Palin ticket and the Bush Administration on medical breakthroughs that millions of parents and doctors believe could save lives and transform the quality of life for countless Americans."

Not to be confused with the republican campaigns today and of past playing politics with Abortion, Homosexual Marriage and 9/11

"Low blow" LOL, now I KNOW that the CONS are just playing dirty when they can't stomach what they dish out. It's not wrong to contrast the GOP's stubborn and religious ideology with its failure to support Stem Cell research when it is in fact the REASON why they are against it.

Keep calling these LIARS out Biden. They're doing your homework for you.

This has gotten ridiculous....so, let's see where we are at:

Palin has a child with Down's Syndrome - can't talk about stem cell research to find cures for birth defects and disease

Palin is a woman - can't talk about abortion

Palin is Palin - can't talk about anything!!!!!!

Palin brought up her advocating for special needs children in her acceptance speech!!! She explicitly mentioned her child for the love of humanity.

I can't believe the gall of the McCain campaign. Well, actually I can. That is how they win elections - smear, misdirection and hope of the naivety of the American people.

  11. Think it through

Something has changed in last few days in the Obama camp, he is going off the cuff a lot with remarks that are easily proven wrong, they seem to be shouting a lot (Biden for sure), and just seem unorganized in general. The McCain camp doesn’t need to do anything but stand back and watch the temper tantrums being displayed by Obama/Biden

I am not speculating as to why, I am just making an observation. I am looking forward to the debates. Mr. Obama may do great things for our country in a few years, however his arrogance pushed him to move too soon.

That is news, not this bullsh&t. We all know stem cell research will advance medicene, but the GOP folks always must be in the way of change and progress. i guess somebody has to do it.

I wondered how long it would take Mr. Biden (a.k.a Quick Draw McGraw) to attempt to ingest his rather large foot.

Poor Joe Biden has a reputation for engaging his lips before his brain on a pretty regular schedule–which is why he has never been considered seriously for President or Vice President by his own party well, not until now.

    What a hoot!!

Just like I said in the previous posting. They would feign outrage and not deal with the issue. Typical republicans.

Now watch their mindless followers parrot the same language.

Gotta agree with Biden on this one. Palin appears to be in the dark ages when religion halted all progress in medicine and research.

Biden knows that Sarah has a child with severe disabilities. That is like striking at her family directly. Yes, that is a new low. Way to go Dems I think I will change to Independent. This is shameful.
