McCain event relocating to a larger venue.

(CNN) – John McCain's campaign is moving a Wednesday rally from a northern Virginia high school to new venue following complaints from some local officials, who complained that holding a partisan event on school grounds violates local School Board policy.

However, McCain's campaign told CNN on Wednesday the main reason for moving the event was to accommodate outsized demand for tickets.

The McCain camp was scheduled to hold a rally Fairfax High School’s field house tomorrow morning from the school system and the city for $10,200.

The event, originally scheduled to be held at Fairfax County High School in northern Virginia, is being re-located after some county School Board members and parents complained that the rally posed a violation of board policy because it would disrupt normal school hours, and objected to the exception granted the McCain campaign. Over the summer, when school was not in regular session, Democrat Barack Obama held a rally at the county’s Robinson High School.

A McCain aide said the principal reason for moving the rally to a new, larger venue — a nearby park — is the mounting demand for tickets. McCain's rallies over the last week with running mate Sarah Palin have drawn large crowds for the Republican nominee.

Wednesday's event will be McCain's first in Virginia since securing the nomination earlier this year.

How about the rally Biden had today at Mehlville High School in St. Louis Mo.? OK for Dem's not OK for Republicans? Come on CNN tell both sides!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Redbug-OHIO   September 9th, 2008 6:24 pm ET

Well she had been mcsame's running mate for awhile. When are they going to let her go it alone. What are they afraid of. Just goes to show she is a mcsame puppet. Let's hear what she or mcsame have to say about the HUGE deficit his good old buddy bush is leaving the next president. Peolple please wake up. Let give REAL CHANGE (OBAMA/BIDEN) the chance to show REAL CHANGE, not more of the republicans scaring people into voting for another for years of bush.

e.j.mohammed   September 9th, 2008 6:24 pm ET

I only hope the good people of Virginia don't fall for this Republican nonsense IT'S A RUSE! McCain isn't the vehicle of change and Palin will set women back 20 or 30 years without choices! I am amazed that Good people actually believe McCain's empty words! Palin is just being told what to say she has never even met Obama. I hope someone burst that bubble soon! McCain knew exactly what he was doing he needed a mouth piece suddenly he's mute and she's the bell of his campaign!

E.J. Mohammed someone who wll never vote another Republican again!

"smart" in America   September 9th, 2008 6:24 pm ET

I remember how people reacted when Bush was elected in 2000 – How could 50,000,000 people be so "smart"?! Guess what – there was even more "good" news in 2004 – the number of "smart" people grew by >20%(!) to 62,000,000! I'm sure you can't wait to know who are those 62,000,000 "smart" people – well, your wait is over:

93% of republicans (well, that's totally expected)
86% of individuals for whom terrorism is the most important issue
(simply terrific job by Cheney&Rove)
85% of individuals who supported war in Iraq (sure, we are over there for a good reason)
84% of conservatives (by definition they have no new ideas – again, expected)
63% of gun owners (afraid that unless big daddy (Bush/Cheney/McCain) will protect them, someone else will take away their toys)
58% of individuals making > $100,000 per year (don't wonna pay more taxes)

Yes, "smart" in America did it in 2000 and 2004 – will they do it again in 2008?!!!

Don of Wisconsin   September 9th, 2008 6:24 pm ET

KEN: "trailer trash crowd"? What an elitist positioning, personified!

BTW, what you stated was equally vacuous; notice that I spelled it correctly. Vacuum is spelled with two 'U's. I learned that the first day in my Vacuum Technology course in t963. Not knowing the difference reduces you to less than the TTCs you demeaned; at least as far as I am concerned.

FOR SCHOOL GYMS AND AUDITORIUMS. THIS IS TURNARIUND
TIDE OF THE MCCIAN-PALIN VICTORY TRAIN JUST ROLLING ALONG IN HIGH GEAR .
THE OBAMA CAMP IS TUNING THEIR CAMPAIGN IN DEFENSIVE MODE ON THE EXPERIENCE AND JUDGEMENT ISSUE NOW, WE SHOULD CREDIT OBAMA FOR HIS "COMMUNITY ORGANIZER" CREDENTIALS BECAUSE THAT IS A KIND OF COMMUNITY SERVICE.. NOTHING HOWEVER COMPARES TO JOINING THE RANKS OF OUR TROOPS LIKE MCCAIN AND PALIN'S SONS.
INCLUDING MCCAIN HIMSELF . THERE WAS AN ARTICLE ABOUT OBAMA IN WHICH OBAMA WAS QUOTED AS SAYING " I THOUGHT OF JOINING THE MILITARY " ONCE. ETC.ETC. THINKING ABOUT DOING SOMETHING IS JUST "WISHFUL THINKING" AND DOES NOT AMOUNT TO A PLATE OF BEANS.

Of course people are there to see this "oddity pitbull". They don't give a hoot about McCain or what he has to say. Two woman I know told me they went to that airport rally just so she could see this woman lie in front of all those people. LOL!!!

Gov. Palin is a McCain cheerleader! She always speaks before him at a rally & says the same old s tuff. I watched Sen Biden speak at the same time she was speaking on CNN this afternoon. Biden was speaking on health care, a top issue to many Americans. Palin was cheerleading as usual. She has no agenda. Time is short & the public still does not know what her stand is. Media has to dig to find something she has done as mayor or governor to get an idea of she's about. This is not a game to me. I am extremely disappointed at McCain for exploiting this woman, and I am upset that she is allowing them to make a pure fool out of her. He's using her and if he wins, she will not be allowed to do anything. She will be scripted as she is now. Sen. Obama has my vote. American women should be ashamed of voting her in. She is not and never will be Hilary Clinton. Hilary is no fool & she knows the issues. She didnt win but she'll back.

Karl   September 9th, 2008 6:14 pm ET

At some point she's going to have to come from under the rock and face the big wide USA. If she wants to run the country, she'll have to speak to its residents. Oh what a nightmare–she'll have to face Americans.

Women are coming out for Sarah Palin big time—-20% of white women (including the Wal-Mart moms) jumped onto her bandwagon right after her convention speech.

Concerned Women for America, arguably the nation's largest women's organization, with local chapters in every state, praised Palin, not just because she opposes abortion but because she is a "woman of accomplishment who brings a fresh face to traditional values and models the type of woman most girls want to become."

Equally celebrated was that she "will bring to the forefront of our cultural conversations an intelligent, realistic, well-grounded woman's perspective." For groups like Concerned Women for America, Palin embodies modern conservative womanhood — she is politically active, personally motivated and decidedly conservative.

All you raging Demorrhoids obviously haven't read the article. The heading is a simple fact — the rally was moved to a larger venue. The article doesn't say they were ordered to move, only that it was done after "…some county School Board members and parents complained…" A careful examination of the facts proves that it is you who are lying.

Les   September 9th, 2008 6:11 pm ET

Thank you Joe Biden for saying the truth about stem cell research. All of you upset at his remarks enjoy sarcastic snide 1/2 truths but you can't handle the truth like Biden puts it? Republican hypocrits as usual.

Community Organizer is a euphamism. He worked with ACORN. They're record is vote stealing, fraudulent voter registrations, paying people with illicit drugs. Why has the "Change you can believe in" campaign not detailed his work as a comunity organizer? Better to not open that can of worms

Tyrone Brown   September 9th, 2008 6:11 pm ET

The truth is Palin is an extremist, liar and a bully.

Extremist? (Dick Cheney pales in comparison)

Supporting the war in Iraq and calling it a "task from God." Dragging the women of America back to the ice ages with her ridiculous views on choice, which has to do with the control and oppression of women.

Liar? (a boldface one at that)

Supporting the Bridge To Nowhere, and then after Congress makes it DOA, saying she did not support it. Also, saying Obama's economic plan will raise taxes, and leaving out that those who make under $250,000 will do better under the Obama/Biden plan than McCain's

Bully? (yes, a lipstick wearing one)

Why try and get the investigation on possible "abuse of power" turned over to a committee appointed by her? Why put a librarian in the "little gut versus big guy" position by asking rhetorical questions about the banning of questions? You do don't have to be overt or criminal to be a bully.

Hillary said it best – No Way No How No McCain.

John sure knows how to use women. He duped his first wife into thinking he was a good husband and caring father, and then ditched her for a role in the hay with Cindy Lou.

He used Cindy for…well you know what he used her for, and her family money.

He's now using Sarah as a last ditched effort to become relevant in a campaign that hasn't given him the time of day, until now.

And he will use all of the female supporters to help him continue the failed Bush policies of the last 8 years. Way to go John, some man.

Anybody notice that McCain attempted a ripoff of Obama's campaign at the last possible minute? Why would an experienced candidate (McCain) plagiarize his supposedly less experienced rival? If Obama is so bad, why copy him?

The change the country needs is not from old to young. It's from Republican to Democrat.

Bill Clinton's era was the best of my life.

Look folks the fight is on. Sorry I know us Dems are above your average Redneck Joe in Texas,,(they dont think) but its time we Dems get down and dirty in the mud to win this thing! It has to be that way….that sadly is how politics have gone now…nobody wants to talk about the issues because so far the GOP does not even understand the issues….if they did we would not be in the mess we are in. Look folks, Reganomics and Trickledown has never worked, and will never work. Regan is the one that yes outspen the Russians but also at the same time spent us right into a recession! For months McCain ridiculed Obama and called him an elitist, The One and a celebrity. He was obviously just jealous at the time because now he is absolutely thrilled to have his own celebrity. Too bad she outshines him. For a year and a half Obama campaigned on "Change" and McCain campaigned on "experience". That wasn't working so guess what now McCain is campaigning on CHANGE. Can't he think on his own.

We American people we have to think about this. For example, the Republican Conservatives Party came out full force and had elected Bush twice and the results are failed policies which left our country in a Economy mess and the Republicans deep down in thier hearts knows this. My question is to all Americans why should we reward the Republicans's failure by putting another Bush=Mccain and Cheney=Palin their policies are the same as Bush. We have to come out full force against the Republicans we must elect a Democratic we must elect Obama/ Biden Listen People the reason the country is in a mess is because of the Republicians failed Poliices.

Wasn't it just a few days ago that Obama was complaining that all McCain did was attack? Well now that they're behind in the polls it seems like Obama and Biden are doing just that. Hey DemMan, if Palin isn't qualified to be VP then Obama is certainly not qualified to be Prez. Yes Palin isn't Hillary. Plain got where she is by her own efforts, not because of who she married. If Hillary weren't Hillary 'Clinton', she'd have never gotten elected to the Senate.

Clearly people are listening to what McCain/Palin have to say and they are finding more relevance in the change they are advocating rather than the socialist creed of "tax the rich and keep the poor in their place by giving them crumbs" spewage of Nobama.

McCain and Palin stand for morality not rehtoric. Obama humilated himself when answering the question about when life begins when he stated "that question is above my pay grade to answer". He should at least come out and just say hei s against pro-life and that life does not begin until you are born. Yesterday I heard Palin claim that she put Alaskas checkbook on-line "for all the world to see". I looked at the "checkbook".

1. Although Palin made it sound as if this were her brilliant idea it is fact a national trend for government websites and she just happened to jump on the bandwagon.

2. The only information the "checkbook" gives is the GL account, deptartment, vendor and amount. No date and no check numbers making it impossible to prove that all checks written are actually listed on the website.

3. I did not see any credits to the account making it impossible to balance this "checkbook"

So yes America, she did post the "Checkbook" on-line but gave only the information that they wanted you to see. When I called the phone number listed to see if I could get any further information on certain checks I was unable to reach anyone.

This on-line "checkbook" is a joke, Palin is a joke and if we put her in office our entire nation will be joke to the rest of the world.

I've noticed over these few weeks how crafty the republican party really is. They call themselves mavericks, but they're really just copy cats.
They took the Democratic Platform of Change, and made it there own.
They mocked the very organizations (community) that helped shape America. They prey on peoples emotions, their sympathies, even their weaknesses. They say they want to unite america, but during these past weeks they have divided America even more. How many hockey moms are there anyway? What demographic does that statement really appeal to? Lies eventually are bought to the light. I just hope that it won't be too late.

Truth:
holding a partisan event on school grounds violates local School Board policy.

Republican Spin
the main reason for moving the event was to accommodate outsized demand for tickets.

Woman from Texas   September 9th, 2008 5:54 pm ET

I wonder why they didn't have it at "Walter Reed Middle School" which the campaign accidently put behind McCain at his speech instead of Walter Reed Medical School. Ha!

Ward   September 9th, 2008 5:53 pm ET

Why should the GOP tell the truth about anything? Lying works for them.

Farrell, Houston, Tx   September 9th, 2008 5:52 pm ET

McCain and Palin could hold their rally in the school toilet because their lies keep growing and they need the soap to wash their mouths out.

Alan   September 9th, 2008 5:52 pm ET

We're going down, down in an earlier round…

Sheesh. Another election, another four years of Republican rule. The Dems blow it again. And it's all because of pride. We Democrats have so much freaking pride, it's unbelievable. To my fellow Dems on the board, I would take a more humble tone. All is lost this time around…once more.

This happened before   September 9th, 2008 5:52 pm ET

Actually, in Phoenix a few months this has happened before. There was a public fundraiser that involved George Bush and McCain, it had lackluster ticket sales (quoting the venue owners), but McCain said they moved it to a private residence for "security reasons."

Right Turn   September 9th, 2008 5:51 pm ET

Yeaaaa!! We're winning and Obama is losing!
Obama is old news, people were sick of hearing about him last month! Vote for the Hero and not the zerO!!!

Dave in Houston   September 9th, 2008 5:51 pm ET

You mean the PALIN rally including john mccain.

She's the One. She's the celebrity. It's probably going to her head why she has to settle for VICE president. I wouldn't be surprised if she slipped some cyanide into his Milk of Magnesia.

Que Quedas   September 9th, 2008 5:51 pm ET

CNN MAN….can you say Paris Brittany and Mc Palin……….

Terry, Butte, Mt   September 9th, 2008 5:51 pm ET

Alright Obama, time to bring in the large crowds again. The only reason he is getting smaller crowds is because he was accused of being a rock star (like that is a bad thing).

GARedNeck   September 9th, 2008 5:50 pm ET

Some people don't care who is running on the Republican ticket, they are going to vote against the Democrats no matter what. Some people think that Republican politicians actually care about abortion other than as a means of getting votes and money, and where has that got them in the last 35 years? Some people think that the GOP is interested in protecting their right to bear arms, but the GOP only brings that up again to get votes and money. Some people think that Republican politicians care about stem cell research, and refuse to look at the evidence before their eyes.
It will be a total shame if the Palin/McCain (sic) ticket wins the election, because that will mean that over half the voters in America only care about which party is elected, and not what the party stands for.

Lisa (PA)   September 9th, 2008 5:50 pm ET

Just another lie from the Repub's!

BTW, why doesn't anyone ask about the big gaffe that Palin said this past weekend about the bailout of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac? It was on Huffington Post but not the MSM?

Play fair and tell the truth!

Obama/Biden '08

Mccain = " NO CHANGE EXPRESS "

When you agree 90 percent of the time with Bush, that is no Maverick. When you use your gut in decision making and not your head, that is no maverick, that is more of the same. We have been fooled twice before. Not this time. No more Mc-Bush. The war in Iraq must end, we got to get our homes, jobs, honor back, we can't continue borrowing Trillions from China, and send it to Iraq. We need Obama.

Kimberly   September 9th, 2008 5:49 pm ET

I'm waiting for the the debate…I figure all the stories we have been hearing back and forth will cease after the condates have a real discussion. It's just amazing to me how we get sucked into all the hoopla. As a woman, Pallin is intelligent, but she is also being used by the Republicans. Why wasn't their rallies and "town hall" meetings energized before? Why are they trying to defend her every move, whether she qoutes truth or not? Now is who is the party with the rockstar…Come on folks…if you can't see through this smoke screen, then you are or want to stay truly blind as to what is transpiring…Let's stick the issues. That is why we vote, and that is what we need to hold our leaders accountable to – not spins and rumors!

matt   September 9th, 2008 5:49 pm ET

Geeze, you would think these two are joined at the hip replacment. Go out and do your own thing McCain. Palin is not running for President you are. So quit riding her pig tails and send her out on her own. Or are you just scared the truth media will eat her alive. Not even her big guns could save her then.

Former Hillary supporter voting for Obama   September 9th, 2008 5:48 pm ET

Pumas,

McCain is using you. Hillary said she will not run 2012.

A message from a Virginian: Go further South where your welcome McCain, because your empty rhetoric and lies are not welcomed here.

Peregrin from Arkansas   September 9th, 2008 5:47 pm ET

Wooo, mercy daddy!

Here's the deal comrades. On November 4th, millions of Americans are going to pile into voting booths all across our 50 states and 5 territories. Over 90% of these citizens are going to already have their minds made up; indeed, most of their minds have already been made up. About 5% of the remnant will have carefully studied each candidate, and will make an educated vote based upon their personal convictions. But those who remain will cast a blind vote. Blind votes go to what people know they can trust (McCain) versus the unknown commodity (Obama).

If the Democrats possessed only 10% of the Republican's political savvy, they would have put the nail in the GOP's self righteous, indignant coffin long ago. The last two elections should have beena piece of cake. But once again we have been out-foxed by our scaly skinned, trunk bearing opponents. Way to go, Democrats! We're in for another long night on November 4th. Obiden vs. McPalin is going to end bitterly once more. And I am standing in amazement. We had it in the bag, guys. And we blew it.

The Republican blowhards are going to regain office once again, and fueled by Senator McCain's bipartisanship, they will have solid footing to win again in 2012. So we punt to 2016, and with a stable of young up and comers (Palin, Huckabee, Romney…not to mention Giuliani, et al), the Republicans will be all the more formidable. Barack Obama is the kiss of death for the Democratic Party, and the scapegoat is the media for putting a torpedo in the hull of Hillary's campaign.

The only thing about the upcoming eight years that will be similar to the previous eight years is the incessant whining that Democrats seem to have mastered. Remember next time fellow Dems, consistency is only a virtue if you're not a screwup.

LOLz @ "Former Hillary supporter voting for Obama"   September 9th, 2008 5:47 pm ET

"I can not believe some upset voters are willing to sacrifice this country for 4 or 8 more years because they are upset. How dare you make the rest of us suffer because you feel entitled. Pumas are a joke."

Wow, more baseless rants. Adjust your tinfoil hat a bit; your reception's out of whack again.

Mccain=Bush=the draft   September 9th, 2008 5:47 pm ET

The repubs are liars. How do you know they are lying? Their lips are moving. They are the lowest form of humanity out there.

diane08   September 9th, 2008 5:45 pm ET

Why bother going to the rally? All they're going to do is give the same canned speeches they gave at their convention. If McCain wants to promote change, he might want to start with his speech.

Obama's got my vote   September 9th, 2008 5:45 pm ET

The Republican party will do anything to gain power.
We keep hearing about Obama not having experience. My question is: What experience did G. Bush have to win the white house,,,,2 times.?

This guy has dragged the country through the mudd for 8 years. Now his croney want's to be president. I hope America woke up from whatever drug they were on?

Poetic Justice   September 9th, 2008 5:45 pm ET

The headline is totally misleading, It makes it seem like that the move was because of supporters and it was actaully because of school board policy. The school board is right. Students shouldn't be forced to sit through political speeches by either candidate durng school hours. Voting age high school seniors shouldn't have to support candidates they don't agree with.

DemMan   September 9th, 2008 5:45 pm ET

Kevin, Obama doesn't need vetting. He was ELECTED. Unlike Palin, who was a last minute selection who was interviewed the day before She was announced. All fact, look it up.

Obama was vetted by the American people. Palin has yet to be vetted, and there are two agonizingly long months to go! I can't wait!

$43,000.00 on TRAVEL??!??   September 9th, 2008 5:44 pm ET

Could you imagine taking $43,000.00 from your family, friends and neighbors to travel back and forth to work for a year?

Mrs. Palin could!!

LAUGHING   September 9th, 2008 5:44 pm ET

Funny how many of you who are not from Virginia are telling McCain that they don't want him in Virginia. How would you know??
Oh, and to the Hillary supporters that are coming to the good side – We'll find a spot for Hilary, where her own party couldn't!!

DemMan   September 9th, 2008 5:44 pm ET

The attempt to lure Hillary supporters was not successful. Palin is not one half the person Hillary is. The current bump in polls is a temporary media fascination with someone who is young enough to be on American Idol.

That does not mean Vice President material, though.

Ken   September 9th, 2008 5:43 pm ET

It doesn't surprise me that a school wouldn't want the new superstar for the trailer-trash crowd to come set a bad example for their kids.

And I love the 'spin' that McCain gives the rejection: the school wasn't big enough to hold all the serial morons in VA that want to come out and listen to vacuous [R] demagoguery. If I lived in VA, I'd resent what he thought of my fellow residents.

Is it not disquieting that there are literally millions of morons who actually want to continue the 8-year downward spiral of our country?

Jish   September 9th, 2008 5:42 pm ET

As much as they accused Obama of it, both McCain and Palin are empty suits in the extreme.

Another McCain lie.

Allison R.   September 9th, 2008 5:41 pm ET

Misleading headline. Propaganda.

DemMan   September 9th, 2008 5:41 pm ET

"We pumas" huh. I didn't know you could speak for more than one.

McCain picked Palin to take attention off of McCain. Obama was destroying McCain so that's no contest. Now you want to bring Palin into this?

Simple, if McCain dies we have a 1.5 year governor at the helm, a governor with a bachelors degree and no plan for our future. You can call Obama inexperienced, even though he has more than Palin ironically. But he has a plan, and that is more than Mr. Experienced but tragically plannless McCain has.

I am not American but I find that there is too much HATRED among Americans, Democrats and Republicans hate one another. I have seen the same thing in another country and the only result we got was the destruction of that country. Americans should remember Divided, we fall or is it too late for them to realize it.

Ben in Tokyo   September 9th, 2008 5:35 pm ET

They let Obama have a campaign rally and won't let McCain have the same kind of campaign rally? Ooooh that's unfair, what the hell is wrong with that county in Virginia?

So why did the school say it was OK in the first place? Seems to me that no matter what Obama's people try to spin there is a logical explanation. Nice try. Keep it up because the experts say if it keeps going this way Obama will lose.

Extra, Extra read all about it   September 9th, 2008 5:34 pm ET

Republicans have had to move a Virgina rally to a larger venue to accommodate Palins big and growing head. Democrats remain unstirred and released this comment; As big as it's (her head) getting, we're dead sure that it's virtually empty.

Hillary's #1 Fan   September 9th, 2008 5:34 pm ET

Any of those Hillary supporters out there who are voting for McCain to spite the Democratic party, I AM OFFENDED. You would risk my future and my family's future to *spite* your fellow Democrats??? How selfish and completely juvenile.

All that aside, those individuals who once supported Hillary and are now supporting McCain CLEARLY were voting for her ONLY because she is a woman. Period. McCain/Palin hold NONE of the same policies, world views, or plans for our country. It's sickening that some view this election as a game or a joke. It's not.

Take a good, long look in the mirror. Don't cut off your nose (and your fellow Americans' noses) to spite your face.

Independent white female Voter!   September 9th, 2008 5:33 pm ET

Boy Mccain had nothing before Palin came into play. However, I think once the noveltywears off a bit and people realize that she is not ready to even be interviewed and the difficulty she faces just from questions she knows nothing about, and how she cannot be left alone, the American people will realize that she is byno means or in any way ready to lead the free world. We are in trouble economically, we're at war, maybe wars, we are competing ina big, big world and Palin is just not ready. Maybe another time!

April Garlow   September 9th, 2008 5:32 pm ET

We puma's aren't just tired of the last 8 years, we're tired of the last 200 years, the DNC and their sexist views, thinking that the good old boys at the top will tell us women when they will let us into the whitehouse, we prefer now.

R.I.F.   September 9th, 2008 5:32 pm ET

I don't understand what all the hype is over Gov Palin…when standing next to Sen McCain, it looks more like a father/daughter thing…more so, a grandfather/granddaughter thing. And I can't believe all she has a is BS in Journalism, which took her six years from six different colleges to obtain. Hmmmmm…interesting. I would expect her to have something more along the lines of at least a Master's Degree (one that she earned by studying, taking examines and writing a thesis, not an honorarium that is given). Maybe that's why McCain won't leave Palin's side? Or, is it something else? Hmmmmmmm…

Obama/Biden 08

carl from savannah   September 9th, 2008 5:31 pm ET

It is amazing to me how easy it is for people to be misguided and used. I believe a fundamental question should be asked to all of us. Are you better off today versus eight years ago? rising costs of health insurance, gas, electric, natural gas, job loss, high drop out rate, high medication costs, war in Iraq, lost of life for the war. So I ask again are you better off? Answer that honestly rather you are a democrat, republican, or independent. We are in the wrong direction. Don't forget that the Republicans held the House, the Senate, and the Presidency for six of the eight years. They backed President Bush who played on the American People's emotions for a war that is wrong but now distant themselves from him. Half the big Whigs in the Republican Party did not attend their convention.

I have heard somewhere that insanity is where you try the same thing over and over again and expect a different result. wake up America. The Republicans are attacking on personality and the Democrats are attacking on policy. I rather the debate on Policy.

Stop the Insanity, open your minds and hearts and make the right choice. Remember to ask yourself that question.

Does Obama Palin Comparison?   September 9th, 2008 5:30 pm ET

Boy, I sure hope that Palin will be addressing some of the startling things that I learned when I googled "ANNENBERG PALIN"…

Gavin   September 9th, 2008 5:30 pm ET

I think McCain's choice for VP is an insult to women. To play the gender gap to win the white house and women votes is dead wrong. Women are not that stupid, they still want to hear the issues, and how McCain plans to fix the economy.
All the women I spoke too are really upset with his political games.

Matt: honestly   September 9th, 2008 5:30 pm ET

On the topic of Biden sinking to a new low…..I am sorry but Palin brought the subject up in the convention when she said people who had special needs children would have an advocate in her. It is not sinking to a new low when you bring up a topic that was said by the person being attacked. His response was true. If she is an advocate how can she be against the research?….She is full of garbage. Maverick? Right…..she shares the same political beliefs of one particular George W Bush.

Angst   September 9th, 2008 5:28 pm ET

Ann, MI   September 9th, 2008 5:26 pm ET

So let me see if I understand this. The Republicans have been spitting vitriol for months about a certain candidate's lack of experience and celebrity status. Where are you now angry bloggers?

Sarah Palin is certainly the flavor of the month, but she can't answer a questions without her cue cards written out by George Bush's gang. And her experience consists of firing a couple of officials for personal reasons and getting federal earmarks for her state at 20 times the national average so she can crow about Alaska's surplus budget.

No McCain   September 9th, 2008 5:26 pm ET

The writing is on the wall…………4 years ago Bush gave the same spin mccain and his surrogates are spewing today, and we pleaded with these "so call christians" to spare us the same failed policies, but they followed their guns and religion and voted for bush and sadly some of these folks will do it again, and they will be the ones to suffer the most.

Free of Liberal Guilt   September 9th, 2008 5:25 pm ET

Is it just me, or are nearly all of the posts on this CNN "Ticker" pro-Obama?

As this article shows, and the latest polls prove, the Republicans are gaining traction and Obama/Biden is slipping badly. The wild and desparate tone of the liberal posts on this site also show that. And despite the liberal lies about Palin's executive record (a record Obama doesn't have), McCain/Palin is proving too much for the Democrats. Its going to be great watching this campaign as things continue to unravel for the Democrats, especially since they should have had this locked up long ago given the Bush/Cheney record of the past 8 years!

Scott, Wichita   September 9th, 2008 5:25 pm ET

Yeah, because thats a fair decision. Obama can and McCain can't. If I was a school administrator, I'd LOVE to have a Presidential candidate at my school, regardless of party. It's FREE ADVERTISING!!!

Lends credibility to the school, and shows your facilities. Also lets your students see the electoral process right up front and in person! If i was one of those parents, I'd FORCE my kids to go, just so they can claim they know more about the candidates than any of the bloggers who just repeat their parties' respective stances like mindless automatons

Annie   September 9th, 2008 5:25 pm ET

From one outside venue to another. And that's moving it to a larger venue? Once the Palin "celebrity" calms down, these folks are going to be exposed for the liars they are. And why can't she go out by herself – is she not yet properly trained? She must be a stubborn pit bull. And will someone please tell her how to pronounce Iraq.

Bill L   September 9th, 2008 5:25 pm ET

McCain and Palin like Hearts song "Barracuda" but I suppose they didn't read the lyrics. The chorus says:

"If the real thing don’t do the trick
No, you better make up something quick"

which means if what you said first does not get the votes, then change what you say and say something else. Flip Flop!

J from DC   September 9th, 2008 5:24 pm ET

Trysh, Los Angeles   September 9th, 2008 5:24 pm ET

Obama has the electoral votes, but if these people vote in McCain, I will NOT be feeling badly for them when their lives get worse like after they sent Bush back to office. Please don't come up with pity stories about how bad the job market is or how they can't afford gas and groceries or either.

If they'd rather be broke than have a Black man in the white house, then let them stay broke.

Debby   September 9th, 2008 5:24 pm ET

Sad when a school prohibits a historical event on their grounds and that goes for either side who would be holding the rally. Maybe these board members should get other professions like McCain suggested. History in the making and the board members think its disruptive. No wonder our school system is in a mess.

Jerry   September 9th, 2008 5:24 pm ET

Not everything is spin or lies just because they're republicans. You're on one of the most liberal biased news forums and I guess you can communicate with other like deformed minds, but come on people! Neither one of the candidates should be in the White House, but I'll take YEARS of experience over DAYS anytime.

Lorna, NY   September 9th, 2008 5:24 pm ET

When Bush was elected to his 2nd term the front page news in England was "America is filled with 48 million IDIOTS! The Republicans are targeting the uneducated and the stupids. There should be a literacy test before people can vote. I don't want dummies determining my future!

Phil in VA   September 9th, 2008 5:23 pm ET

Hmmm, liberal infested NOVA says no to McCain. How shocking. I absolutely love reading the talkback comments from all the Obama folks. All they can say is McCain/Palin lie, they are bad, etc. A typical dem response. A lot of hot air and absolutely no substance. Dems can never give facts. So when Emperor Obama doesn't win the election, I wonder what the excuse will be for how the republicans stole the election. It's the same thing every 4 years. Oh, and please keep putting the Obama bumper stickers on your cars. I love knowing who all the "lovely" people are on the road!

Where is the substance in this hot air? Bush is done and they will follow his path. This is not the change we want.

NO WAY, NO HOW, NO PALIN/MCCAIN.

Someone needs to get to the bottom of this….. keep it coming…..
Oh, FU Rush!

Yeah, because folks are just jumping out of their shoes to come fall asleep at a McCain rally.

Snore……….

Hillary 2012

Former Hillary supporter voting for Obama   September 9th, 2008 5:22 pm ET

I can not believe some upset voters are willing to sacrifice this country for 4 or 8 more years because they are upset. How dare you make the rest of us suffer because you feel entitled. Pumas are a joke.

gwg   September 9th, 2008 5:22 pm ET

McCain better get a refund from the Obama juice drinkers. When the school needs books or funds I home the consertives remind the people who took the resorces away from them. Elect a new school board. This event is part of history and the school board felt it would be disruptive. Bull, what loosers. They just deprived thier students a chance to particapate in history not just read it from a book.

jjenkins   September 9th, 2008 5:22 pm ET

Attention Obama Supporters:

Have you any integrity? I thought you were supporting Obama because he was a different kind of politician? isn't it really true that you like him because he's really really liberal and you like his personality, and now you want him to sling mud? I think so — because that seems to be all he's doing — like a standard politician. It's now time to make the switch. Do you have the stomach for it?

v.ananthan   September 9th, 2008 5:21 pm ET

OBAMA JUST TALK…. NO ACTION….

Give change a chance   September 9th, 2008 5:20 pm ET

So just because McCain couldn't speak on school grounds doesn't mean they have to lie about it.

Former Hillary supporter voting for Obama   September 9th, 2008 5:20 pm ET

This woman is a insult to everything we believe in and McCain is so out of touch.

J from DC   September 9th, 2008 5:20 pm ET

This is because, John McCain is switching his colors and talk to match Obama's. Conservative Republicans are running as Democrats now. But be not fooled. This is not the reason for his recent poll bumps.

Stop looking for dirt on Palin because she is clean, maybe vindictive at best. The hard reality is that women identify with her because she looks and feels familiar to them. The problem is that they really can’t see how different she is from most of them. When they switch the Supreme Court next year, pro-choice goes out the window with it. But not for 4 years, but for the next 20 years. That is the wool being pulled over women’s eyes.

Problem is, women are not carrying this critical issue (their right to choose) in the forefront of their minds. They won’t get it tell it’s too late, and after the price for Palins seat proves too expensive in personal rights.

Chuck   September 9th, 2008 5:20 pm ET

If one will sit back from their computer for a minute and as an adult try and reflect objectively about this race and the recent tactis by Mccain and Palin it becomes quite clear just how shameful and deceitful these two have been in this campaign.

No matter what one thinks of Obama's positions at least he is trying to talk about the issues. His most recent events have been centered on the economy, education and some recent suggestions regarding troop withdrawals in Iraq. Whereas McCain and Palin are completely ignoring any dialouge, discussion or even debate on these issues while using over-generalized comments to talk about themselves, POW, war hero, maverick, soccer mom, etc.

Can those who are supporting Mccain and/or Palin not really see the difference? Are you really that blind? You do not have to agree with Obama's positions or proposals. You can even dislike them immensely. But at least he is talking about them to open up debate as to how to resolve some of these issues.

DREADY1RASTA   September 9th, 2008 5:20 pm ET

I guess the usual Republican meeting place, the men's room at the airpor , was too small.

C C Matthews   September 9th, 2008 5:20 pm ET

It sure is a sad state of affairs when Obama sends his goon squad to try and hijack the comment sections of the articles. Have you looked at the polling numbers recently? You are in the minority.

Former Hillary supporter voting for Obama   September 9th, 2008 5:19 pm ET

Palin will not win this election.

steve   September 9th, 2008 5:19 pm ET

why would anyone comment about the "real" reason it was moved is because school board policy says they shouldn't hold a political event on school grounds,
when these obamabots conveniently ignore the line of the of the article that says: Democrat Barack Obama held a rally at the county’s Robinson High School.

although it's probably true that an obama rally can't be considered a political event, more like a circus or something.

Independent   September 9th, 2008 5:19 pm ET

This former Hillary supporter will go to McCain/Palin rally if they decide to go to Texas. I am done with Democrat party!

Kelby from Houston, TX   September 9th, 2008 5:19 pm ET

The headline is somewhat misleading. The headline makes you think, "wow, people are really coming out to see McCain. but then you read the article and find that a partisan event on school grounds violates local School Board policy.

They don't need a larger venue. they just can't play where they want

no trickle down...   September 9th, 2008 5:18 pm ET

They illegally expose active service men at their convention.
They illegally use the song Baracuda, even when asked not to.
They illegally try to use public school property for a political rally.

Is there a trend here?

Seems like the McCain/Palin ticket has NO respect for the law!

Former Hillary supporter voting for Obama   September 9th, 2008 5:18 pm ET

To all Pumas,

You really need to wake up and understand if the dems lose this election, there will be so much back lash that HILLARY will never get to run again. This Palin person is against everything we have been fighting for. I am ashamed that you once supported Hillary, and I'm sure she is ashamed of you as well.

Brian   September 9th, 2008 5:18 pm ET

Of the 50 states, Alaska ranks No. 1 in taxes per resident and No. 1 in spending per resident. Its tax burden per resident is 2 1/2 times the national average; its spending, more than double.

keep bending over conservatives!

Palinocchio   September 9th, 2008 5:18 pm ET

By the time this campaign is over they're going to need a stadium on each campaign stop to fit both of McCain's and Palinocchio's growing out of control noses!

CM   September 9th, 2008 5:18 pm ET

Someone here had the audacity to say that McCain is New and Change? Whatever that means.

Whats new and changed about him and the issues he wants to fix? Any plans for the economy you know of that we don't?

McCain is only for gimmicks. 'This election isn't about issues' – direct quote from one of his advisors

Go ahead and vote for the same tired old men and expect something different. You are the reason American is losing her superpower status.

Half the Repukes are voting for Palin based on her looks. The other half are voting against Obama because… we'll you know… he's different. The one thing they have in common is an alarming lack of enthusiasm for the man they're putting into the White House.

Let the dumbing down of America continue. Let's hope we all get a little smarter soon.

Lonnie from OH   September 9th, 2008 5:16 pm ET

It's a sad day for any political party when the VP pick is more popular than the Presidential nominee.

What's even sadder is the fact that, after 8 years of Bush, Americans still pay more attention to personalities and less attention to policies. After mounting foreclosures, a seemingly endless war in Iraq, Washington lies, and over 600,000 jobs lost since the beginning of 2008 you would think that we would pay a little more attention to what's best for the country and less attention to political hype from both sides.

Is that "Change" and/or "Country First"? I wonder…

Debby   September 9th, 2008 5:16 pm ET

The school board must be liberals. Why wouldn't they want kids to see a Presidential rally I would think it would be a historical event for them vs. them sleeping at their desks.

Shari, NY   September 9th, 2008 5:16 pm ET

Fellowmen, Mrs. Paliln is not allowed to campaign solo because she is needed as a carrot stick wherever McCain goes.

R.I.F.   September 9th, 2008 5:15 pm ET

I guess large crowds and celebrity is okay if you are a republican.

Isn't it funny how the McCain campaign has done a complete 180 in the past couple of weeks? I thought he has a Maverick? Looks like he's just stealing Obama's concepts.

Walk out on stage after the VP speaks at the convention – Check

Hold big rallies to show the excitement for the campaign – Check

Talk about Change – Check

I guess he'll start talking about a timetable for troop withdrawl next. McCain's a fraud.

Diane   September 9th, 2008 5:15 pm ET

This whole McCain-Palen is such a joke—McCain has really changed
he isn't the person he used to be. McCAin being in the senate, what has he done for the american people in the last 8 years. plus he's taking Obama's "Change" to be his own. He has copied everything from Obama! if the people vote for a republican this time around, our country won't be a country anymore. it's sickening.

TheTruthHurts   September 9th, 2008 5:14 pm ET

Good for him. At least people can hear the misinformation up close and personal. Barack should have done the town halls. We should have put this nonsense to rest a month ago. I guess now, more people will focus on the debates. McCain will have to defend the idiocy of cutting taxes in a time of war. That's like quitting your job while trying to send your kids to college. Oh, and trickle-down economics has been discredited. If you give GM a tax break, they will take the money, build a plant in Mexico and lower the INCREASE in car prices by $100. Who is that going to employ? Most of the tax break went out of the country. I'm with Barack, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Throw the bums out and lock the door.

OBAMA OR BUST

April Garlow   September 9th, 2008 5:12 pm ET

The Democrats have been real jerks since Palin joined McCain's ticket. Now Biden with his childish and insensitive remark about stem cell research, they have really shown their true faces to the American People. You know what Barack Obama's good friend Oprah says–"When someone shows you who they are–believe them", and we do.

Where is America   September 9th, 2008 5:12 pm ET

Why are McCain and Palin only targeting whites for their campaign. Where are the Asians, Hispanics, Blacks, and other people of color? I am sorry but did I miss something? For days the news has shown these images of white town halls, white conventions, rural white issues, and never mentioning that you need more of a cross-section to win the election, or at least that is what the media told us during the Obama Clinton primaries. You need a cross-section, you need a cross-section of voters….Seriously does all McCain need are the rural white vote to win the election??? If not, then why isn't the media reporting on what the McCain ticket is doing to woo the minority voters? So far it is a turn off and shows the republicans are not forward thinking people.

BH   September 9th, 2008 5:12 pm ET

remind me again … was it Palin or McCain who was running for President on the Republican ticket? In any case, I suppose fundamentalist voters will have no theological problems taking their marching orders from a woman.

Nancy   September 9th, 2008 5:12 pm ET

Riiiiight. It's because of "ticket sales." Riiiight. So it's not really because of school board issues. It's because of "ticket sales." OK?

PUMA 4 HILL   September 9th, 2008 5:12 pm ET

Oh No, hot a historical rally to take the place of addition/subtraction for a single day… oh no, what will the kids learn from this??

Maybe they will learn that McCain is much more qualified than the chosen one. Hillary would be ahead of McCain and Palin now but Oh No.. the DNC and the racist thugs had to force their choice over the people.

NO WAY, NO HOW, NOBAMA
Where's the BEEF? NO BEEF, NOBAMA!!!

sandee in Portland   September 9th, 2008 5:11 pm ET

Geez, their campaign even lies about why they switched venues. Can the republicans tell the truth about anything. Why not just admit it's against school policy?

Oh, by the way, has anyone noticed that McCain is now also copying Obama by doing rallys with his shirt sleeves rolled up. Does this guy have any original ideas?

Griff   September 9th, 2008 5:10 pm ET

One rule for one, but different for another?? Biased

Chuck   September 9th, 2008 5:09 pm ET

So what is the real reason the location has been changed. Because the school board said no while school was in session or because there has been a request for more tickets and they needed a larger area to accomondate the crowd?

In this case I'll believe the parents, county officals and school board and consider the Mccain campaign explanation another politically motivated lie.

Barbara   September 9th, 2008 5:08 pm ET

Wonder how much money he is offering for people to show up – HA

Sig, Los Angeles CA   September 9th, 2008 5:07 pm ET

Actually, the truth is that some of the administrators and parents had problems with using the school for political purposes.

McCain and Palin are the "Bridge to Nowhere" and that's exactly what we've had for the past 8 years.

Boye   September 9th, 2008 5:07 pm ET

McCain should consider making Palin the top of the ticket. Looks like republicans are more interesting in her than him. Now that would be a maverick move.

It is truely amazing that the people who think they are the base of the republican party (low and middle income blue collar, church going whites) continue to think that voting the same type of people into office is going to give them a different result.

You're anti choice or pro life?

You just had a Republican President for 8 years, a Republican Congress for 6 years, and a moderate to conservative court for that entire time.

I dont' remember any hard republican push to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Every four years they try to get the so called "base" to turn out to vote for prolife, pro gun, less government, anti gay presidents and representatives and they never deliver.

You are all being used.

The sad part is you don't even care as long as someone you think you can't stand doesn't win. What is that phrase about cutting off your nose to spite your face?

And now you're considering voting in someone more hawkish than Bush to send your sons and daughters off to fight thier corporate wars for the sake of patriotism?

McCain was just in clips about expanding markets for American products. Wake up. He was talking about CAFTA without naming it. One of his first trips as a candidate was to Columbia, a nation one of his staffers is a lobbiest for. Say goodbye to more American jobs.

When are you all going to wake up and realize that the true base of the republican party really does have an income of several hundred thousand dallors to several million dallors. Look at his tax cut proposal.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting different results

Ken in Dallas   September 9th, 2008 5:02 pm ET

Rich in Seattle   September 9th, 2008 5:00 pm ET

Wow, the McCain camp even lies when they don't have reason to lie. So they were told they couldn't hold a political event on school grounds, don't LIE and say it was because you needed a bigger venue. NOW that's a lie!

Plus, why can't Palin campaign by herself or answer question by the media? What are they scared of.

Wake up America!!!!!! Learn from your past stupid mistakes and don't elect the same ones into office again. What more do the Republicans have to do to prove they have no clue how to run the country!!!!

Spencer from VA   September 9th, 2008 4:59 pm ET

fair enough. The McCain/Palin show is drawing bigger crowds than the Obama's all-rhetoric-no-record show.
