Matt Damon does not approve of Palin.
Matt Damon does not approve of Palin.

(CNN) – Admirers say Sarah Palin's compelling narrative and working-mom credentials helped land her a spot on the Republican presidential ticket, but Hollywood star and Obama supporter Matt Damon said Monday the Alaska governor's story more resembles a "really bad Disney movie."

In a blunt interview with the Associated Press, the star of the Jason Bourne film series also said there was a good chance John McCain would die in his first term in office and the thought of a President Palin is "terrifying."

“It’s like a really bad Disney movie — the hockey mom…from Alaska, and she’s the president, and it’s like she’s facing down Vladimir Putin and using the folksy stuff she learned at the hockey rink. And it’s absurd, it’s totally absurd, and I don't understand why people aren’t talking about how absurd it is," Damon said.

"You do the actuary tables, there's a 1-3 chance if not more, that McCain doesn't survive his first term and it will be President Palin," Damon also said, adding later "I think there's a really good chance Sarah Palin could be president, and I think that's a really scary thing, because I don't know anything about her, and I don't think in eight weeks I am going to know anything about her.”

Palin's selection 11 days ago to the GOP ticket has drawn record crowds to McCain campaign rallies and generated a wave of enthusiasm among the base of the party. Damon told the AP he viewed the pick as a purely political one.

"I know that she was a mayor of a really, really small town, and she's been governor of Alaska for less than two years — I think the pick was made for political purposes but in terms of governance it’s a disaster," he said.

Damon and longtime friend Ben Affleck endorsed Obama last year and have been vocal in their support of the Illinois senator. The two also attended a $1,000 per-person fundraiser for Obama in Miami last month.

Why is there so much focus on what celebrities are saying about the candidates. WHO CARES? I speak for myself and probably many others when I say that my vote will be based on issues I find important and not what some dumb celebrity says.

Cyrus K.   September 10th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

Matt Damon is a voter, just like you and I. The only difference is, he is Matt Damon. No one is asking you to listen to him or be influenced by him. As a supporter, he is well within his rights to express his views. Where does it say that a celebrity cannot speak his mind? If celebrities can't speak their mind, then John McCain, the real American Celebrity, should simply shut up.

C!   September 10th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

Yayyyyy! Matt Damon is wise! hahaha!

Obama/Biden `08!

Irma in North Carolina   September 10th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

You are all worried about Mccain kicking the bucket, but dont forget his mother is 96, so he could be around a while. Sarah said the war in Iraq was gods task. So hopefully it will be gods task not to let them two win the election. The Lord works in mysterious ways,

Gina   September 10th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

I agree with Matt. I don't think she would be ready to take over as President if anything would happen to McCain. I think she is a great person but just not ready for all the challenges that she would have to face.

Monica   September 10th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

Thanks Matt Damon:))) Scary except it won't be a Bad Disney Movie where we can turn off the channel but real life. Go Figure people:(((

!!!   September 10th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

MATT DAMONNN!!!!

laura   September 10th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

Oh no Matt! .. now the GOP women's group will boycott your movies ….. I am really worried about this ladies! First no Oprah for sure no no Matt Damon! ….. what will they do all this time??? I am really worried will they boycott food too if the food comes from blue state? ;op

Jack   September 10th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

The actuary tables?! You can't do actuary tables to predict how long someone will live! This is insanity. Unless celebrities actually intend to pursue a career in politics then they should steer clear and quit trying to use their celebrity to tell people how to vote.

Ken   September 10th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

I second that. They won't even let talk to the press because they know she can't handle it.

Sarah   September 10th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

Right on Matt, he hit the nail on the head. We should be talking about it, it is a VERY scary reality that we may indeed have to face if McCain gets elected.

KD   September 10th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

Obama was senator for less than 2 years before announcing his candidacy which is just as long as Palin has been governor. And McCain is going to die? a 1 in 3 chance? Where is he getting these facts? another democratic ploy at using ageism. Or maybe he thinks that someone who has had cancer shouldn't be president. McCain gets health checkups regularly so if his skin cancer does come back he will catch it early. Obama could die in office just the same as McCain (please note that prostate cancer occurs 60% more in African American men then in white men according to webmd.com), and then we would be stuck with Biden whom Obama believes does not have the right judgement to be president. (because he voted for the war, just as hillary did and obama said she had the wrong judgement because of her vote.)
Both Obama and Palin are inexperienced. I'd rather have the second in command learn and gain experience from the first in command then have Obama as the first in command without any experience.

ci   September 10th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

Barack has less experience, and someone doesn't have to die for him to be president.

Chris   September 10th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

Normally I would care less what some celebrity said about a presidential election. But in this case, bravo Matt Damon! Someone needs to say this stuff before we end up with a "president" who is the least qualified person to hold any federal office in the history of our nation.

Irene   September 10th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

DITTO FOR US, TOO……….

The outrage is the "absurdity"" of it all. It is almost bizarre the way she "appeared" on the scene…….hardly vetted and now NOT BEING ALLOWED TO APPEAR BEFORE REPORTERS AND JOURNALISTS………what is wrong with this picture!

OBAMA / BIDEN 08

JusLaugh   September 10th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

Exactly. If Palin can't even take a little jabbing from Obama, how can we expect her to negotiate with Putin?

Matt just said what smart people in America are thinking.

Patrick   September 10th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

My advice Mr Damon, is to pack your bags and leave.

Roberta   September 10th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

I wonder if McCain has sat down with Palin to explain to her what a VP does?

Go Obama!!! :)

Who's he?   September 10th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

bad actor

Ross   September 10th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

Just goes to show that Hollywood democrats can be as stupid as any other democrat. He was probably just reading a script anyway (not known for his brains).

Former Repub   September 10th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

Someone needs to speak out on this.
most women arent this gullible are they?
voting for a woman based on gender even though she completely differs on the issues, is absurd to me.
How can they argue that Palin has more experience than OBAMA?
who actually believes that?
If McCain does become gravely ill in office, can you imagine Palin being president? The times are dire, i tell you, the times a dire
OBAMA 08

Jackson   September 10th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

I am not sure why we should care what Matt Damon thinks politically. I enjoy his movies, think he is a great actor, but who gives him the right over anyother voter to voice his opinion is such a negative manner. Regardless of my political views it is distasteful, and his vote in November is not worth anymore than mine.

Concerned Citizen   September 10th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

It concerns me that an actor believes he can be the judge on who is qualified to become president. As a citizen it his duty to become aware of the candidates and I believe this is the piece that is missing from American politics. We want to hear the candidates biographies which do not actually mean squat. Who cares about Obama's childhood? Is he qualified to be president, Is Palin qualified for that matter. As a citizen you can do your own reserahc and determine those answers for yourself but I do not believe that "hockey mom" either qualifies or disqualifies them for the position.

catherine   September 10th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

in 8 weeks you could learn a lot about her, but i'm glad you are voting for obama

Proud Conservative   September 10th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

John McCains mother is 96, Obama's mother died at 45. Is this really rocket science?

Johnny Boston   September 10th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

Thanks Matt. Now go back to reading your lines.

Raquel Verdugo   September 10th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

I thought this was going to be one election that I was going to keep up with ,so far all I am hearing is two groups of kids on a playground going back and forth with name calling. Now all I do is try and find something more interesting to watch or listen to. They need to stop the trash talk it really turns people off. They are smart people aren't they ,do they not understand we do not want to listen to that.I am so confused now I do not know who I am going to vote for ,maybe a write in.

Rachelle   September 10th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

I don't think CNN should include movie stars' comments as headline worthy news stories.

will   September 10th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

Hollywood is always so helpful to the Republicans, keep it up Russell, Matt, Oprah…

Nikhil   September 10th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

Finally someone who agrees, i was a republican supporter then he made this pick and when she gave that speech i immediately donated $200.00 to the Obama camp, she is scary as hell i dont want her as president shes another dan quayle, a pig with lipstick is still a pig i hate her

Alex   September 10th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

Though I don't really care about a celebrity's opinion, I do agree with him on this point. The idea of her being the one to face down Putin is terrifying.

Chuck G   September 10th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

Go Sarah - don't let those mysoginist democrats get you down! She's a great breath of fresh air . . . . Mr. Damon's elitest tone is exactly why the democrats have had such trouble getting elected to the white house . . . .

GO DEMS!!!!

Rebecca   September 10th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

Not that this will be posted….I'm a conservative, so CNN never posts my comments…

Anyhoo..I love how the press always clamors to get the prized opinions of actors/celebrities regarding things like, I don't know, government policies, real life…? Hello? They're ACTORS. Entertainers. They have about as much clout and real knowledge about real life as my two year old. But because they look good onscreen and keep our fat butts firmly planted on the couch, what they say MUST mean something! Shoot- next time I have an ailment, I might as well call Whoopie Goldberg instead of my own, medical-school trained doctor….I guess I've been going about it all wrong this whole time…

Brian   September 10th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

Never amazes me how these celebrity elites lose customers. I no longer watch David Letterman or Boston Public because of the politics. I won't be going to any more Damon movies…pity though since I enjoyed the Bourne series.

Evan Dowling   September 10th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

In addition to my comment above, I am currently developing an outline for a politically oriented screenplay based on actual historical events in which I envision Matt for the lead role. I plan to finish writing it sometime next year and hope he is willing to take a look at it.

Nancy Wright   September 10th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

What's really terrifying is having Hollywood running our country!

Brando   September 10th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

It doesn’t matter. Barack ain’t gettin’ 270 EV come Nov. It’s all about the Electoral College, stupid. Leave it to the democrats to snatch defeat! from the jaws of victory! for the third time in a row. (00′, 04′, 08′). When will they (finally) learn? Hopefully by 2012. You got 4 yrs, DNC. You’ve! been! warned!.

Who's he?   September 10th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

L-O-L!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jonathan Hall   September 10th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

I don't know what is scarier, the idea of her actually being president or there being enough people in America who are stupid enough to vote for McCain and her.

What is wrong with people in this country? Do you really want four more years of these disastrous policies?

Jim   September 10th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

I'm right there with Matt Damon. Everyone says you shouldn't use age as a bias but it's tough not to when you have a candidate McCain's age that has had a history of health problems. And having a VP with such extreme right wing conservative views scares the crap out of me.

Any and every woman that is not conservative and is pro-choice that is considering voting for McCain should ask themselves "Can I live with Roe vs. Wade overturned?" If not, DO NOT VOTE FOR MCCAIN!!! The next president stands to nominate 3 supreme court judges and if it's the republicans there will be nothing but diehard conservatives on the supreme court for DECADES!!!!

T Toole   September 10th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Ditto with Darryl Scott (comment #1)!
How dumb do the Republicans think Americans are?
From what I've read and heard about Palin (besides how the avaible information appears to be being rewritten in her favor every minute!), her extremist religious views equate to JIHAD in America!

Bern   September 10th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

These are people we need to talk on behalf of Obama. His people should start firing Palin till she gives up the VP spot. She came 11 days ago. She has never had any interviews yet. Not even closed book speech. Her first speech was written and she just read it very well. She has said nothing to inspire people but only attacks that the GOP are happy about. She has not gone thru halve of what Obama has gonr thru for the past 20 months. Lets see if she can survive the rest of the weeks till election time.

earle decker   September 10th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Matt Damon needs to stick to playing fantasy roles in a make believe world. The last thing we need is another actor spouting off on what we need while they make a living outside of the world we really live in.

Brent   September 10th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Matt should try to be more open-minded and do more research on the candidates. The only way he won't know more about her in 8 weeks is if he doesn't care to look.

A lot of Hollywood people are showing their far-left bias by being openly hostile towards republicans. If you support Obama, that's fine, but there is no need to be nasty towards the opponent. Especially when you don't know what you are talking about.

lc   September 10th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Finally, the voice of reason.

Cosmo   September 10th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Almost as absurd as his opinion mattering because he can play characters that are captured on film.

Tampa, FL   September 10th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Matt Damon is a sexist pig. If McCain's pick was a man with the same credentials, he wouldn't even view it this way.

David Kraus   September 10th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Yes, before Palin was chosen, I could possibly live with John McCain as President, but now I am also apprehensive that McCain will win and die in Office. Palin is not ready to be President. They can't even let her be interviewed yet.

Bob Dog   September 10th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

I always liked Matt Damon for his acting. Now I have another reason to like him.

Rick   September 10th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Oooooo - another celebrity endorsement. Matt, there are no bad movies - only bad actors - and Obama can't work without a teleprompter.

M. Floyd-Texas   September 10th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

At last, someone said something that makes sense. I share Mr. Damon's concern and his fear of Palin. Who knows what she will do in office. I am definitely afraid.

Pete-Waynesboro, VA   September 10th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Although I'm generally with you Matt, it would be good to spend some time learning more about her- I don't think it's quite as scary as a lot of people think right now.

GO OBAMA!

Warren   September 10th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

I have to agree with Mr. Damon. This is so sad for McCain. He has been hijacked by the Rove criminals. Woman have to wake up in America its not about gender or personality its about the future of this country and i for one have grandchildren that are going to suffer because of our decisions. When are people going to pay attention to the issues

Terry Smith   September 10th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

For those with short memories, Dwight Isenhower's only experience was as a commanding general and Bobby Kennedy's only experience was as an appointed Attorney General. Didn't seem to bother anybody at the time. Besides which, Mcain's mother is still alive, which is a point in his favor.

Brennan Leggett   September 10th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

I agree too! I mean come on! This is insane, and does anybody realize how screwed we are if McNasty gets elected and dies in office! And the the "HOCKEY MOM!" becomes president!

Rev Thoompson   September 10th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

I agree with Matt. This is absurd. She is a nice person I am sure but what is with all the talk about being a hockey mom!! I am sick of it tell me how you are going to help our country in the next four years. What are you going to do about gas prices? Don't tell me about lipstick and a dog??!! HUH??

justin   September 10th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Misleading headline… According to your own article he didn't call her terrifying he said the "thought of a President Palin is 'terrifying.' ".

Not that I don't agree with him on that.

agn   September 10th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Sarah Palin is a liar and a cheat (wait till the adultery scandal hits the major media outlets)… I am also with Matt Damon!

Amy Smith   September 10th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

This is a case of judging a book by its cover in relation to why support has been going up for McCain/Palin. Its a really cool cover and the book looks like its a great read, but open it up and there's not a whole lot to be excited about. The story is actually pretty scary….

Susan   September 10th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

I guess it takes an actor to speak the truth: the idea of Sarah Palin as president if something happens to McCain is indeed entirely terrifying (although the idea of him as a president isn't much better)–I want to leave this country if these maniacs actually get into the White House.

Eric   September 10th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Matt Damon wil say whatever lines the DNC gives him, it what he does for a living. I'm not concerned with his 'expert' opinion, he makes millions every year playing make-believe in Hollywood.

What do we know about Barry Obama? All he ever does is say how bad it is, it's George Bush's fault, and he needs your vote to ensure everything is magically transformed into a socialist paradise. That's all he can say.

David Yoo   September 10th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Do you like apples? How do you like them apples?

ken bell   September 10th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

San Diego Moon   September 10th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

She terrifies me as well. This is really scary. Just the fact that McCain chose her should automatically disqualify him from being President.

If this were a corporate move, he'd be fired so fast it would make your head spin.

Of course, this is the same country that voted in Bush twice so maybe we are a nation of stupid hockey moms who don't know any better.

Patti   September 10th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

McCain's mom is 96.

Obama's mother died at 53.

CNN- Let's see what other celebrities say.

When I read CNN now I consider it a dish rag. It's fun.

John From New York   September 10th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Some of what Matt Damon says sounds harsh, but he's right. We have no idea who Sarah Palin is. She might as well be the person next door.

You've got to be kidding me. He doesn't know anything about her? Obviously. She has more experience than Obama, and is a better public speaker than him anyway. Nothing smacks more of Disney than Obama. Stick to the movie analogies for some other thing, Damon. No one cares what stars think, no matter how edumacated.

Vaxe   September 10th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

I think you right. The fact that if anyone say something about her lack of experience is been sexism is B.S. We need to stop that.

I wish something could open everyone's eyes. Unless you are truly a social conservative, why else would you be excited about this woman? And even if you are a social conservative…is this really a ticket that you can be proud of? I don't think that women everywhere should be offended by her selection. We spend all to much time being offended and to little time discussing the issues…

Thank you Matt Damon for speaking out. I wish more agreed with you.

Matt Damon, Politico extraordinaire…what a laugh! Now he is playing God regarding Mc Cain's health…does he know something McCain's physicians and McCain do not know???
Also, let me remind one and all…have you ever heard of advisors such as secretary of state, chief of staff, cabinet members, etc???

Even Obama needs these folks as resources and advisors… and he is running for the top position…give me a break!!!

Mia Thai   September 10th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

As a woman, I am offended that Sarah Palin is crying the "poor little woman blues!" If you want to be taken seriously as a woman then you can not cry sexiest at every turn when the negative spot light is on you. For the record, Senator Obama was not referring to her as a pig in lipstick, he was referring to the issues that the GOP are trying to fool the American public with.

The community organizer shot from the GOP and from Sarah Palins lips was offensive. Do they think that a part of the VOTING population is not important?

Shame on you GOP and Sarah Palin—those lying lips in lipstick! I don't understand the news media…you all are not reporting and being fair on both sides of the political party. Where is the true vetting of this woman?

tom   September 10th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

thank you matt damon!

Julie Smith   September 10th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

ztormtra   September 10th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

Clearly a stupid comment.

The 'Hockey Mom' is a Governor in charge of the USA's 1st missile defense against Russa and completed a multi-billion dollar deal for a gas pipeline America needs.

Stupid Matt.

Brenda   September 10th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

I totally agree with Matt Damon. Mccain has had MALIGNANT melanoma 3 times!! Helloooooo! He is a Bush close and no one wants to remember but before the very bad Bush policies we had a surplus now there is a national deficit of $407 trillion! Had anyone wanted to spend anything close to this for education or paying our teachers, guarding our ports, or homes for the poor there would have been no chance and endless hearings. Bill Clinton whatever his moral failures knew it was all about the economy. Oh,. and the press doesnt want to talk about Mccain's womaninzing and cheating for 6 years and numerous rumors still!! Mccain/Palin is very very scary thought!

NC voter   September 10th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

Wow—someone who isn't afraid to tell it like it is.

The people running McCains' campaign now are Palin and tucker Bounds—McCain has been relegated to dottering old fool. Mr. McCain, winning without honor is an empty victory, even if you are President. You can see how despised Bush is, and you will be the same if you do not get control of your nazi campaign. Where is the man who used to command respect?
Matt Damon is right—McCain is almost a non-entity in this whole thing. He and Palin hide behind their scripts and their mean vicious campaign manager and snivel their way down the campaign trail. No honor, no respect.

Well Said Matt. Thats pretty scary to even imagine

female professor   September 10th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

I don't know how people can support a candidate who does not allow people to ask questions. If a student refuses to take an exam, he/she gets an F, not an A. I gave Palin an F.

Ohioan   September 10th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

I concur with Mr. Damon's view. Mrs. Palin's extreme views on social issues and lack of national and international experiences form a perfect storm for this country.

My take on her selection is that she is an empty vase that the Republican Party puts out in the front of a shop in an attempt to attract customers. If Mr. McCain and Mrs. Palin are elected to the White House, the Karl Rove and Dick Cheney type of GOPs will take over and run this country into ground.

NO McCain/Palin 08!

Gayle   September 10th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

I agree also—this woman shows no sense of true intelligence or ability to lead a country. I can't believe people have actually fallen for this ruse. McCain lost my vote—but I'm not interested in Obama either. It's sad to think we have no one with any real plan or ideas to lead our country.

McPalin 08   September 10th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

Please Hollywood elites, keep blathering…..

donna   September 10th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

It actually terrifies me that anyone would listen to what Matt Damon has
to say. I would much rather have Sarah Palin in office than Obama. At least she would not be trying to take money away from the people who
actually work hard to earn it & give it to the people who don't or won't
earn it. Obama is like a bad dream or shall I say nightmare.

Nova   September 10th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

Trust me I totally agree, the thought alone makes me unable to sleep. I do give praise to the state of Iowa who 95% white voted for a man based on his issues and stance as opposed to the color of his skin sounds like a great place in my book!

Not a Damon fan, but sounds like he has at least looked at what Pain really stands for. Book banning and forcing her views on people, lies and more lies, sounds like Hitler to me. Except her health care plan is worse.

Please look at the issues and don't screw US again. You play $4,000 or more for health care under McCain and could lose your plan and never get one if you get cancer in that time.

Is all of this garbage worth it to you????

McCain May Have Opened Door For Charges That He Is A Sexist

"I don't know if the McCain campaign wants to go there," said an operative.

Doreen   September 10th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

Thank you Matt for an absolulte truthful statement concerning the "decorated" Governor of Alaska!!! I am amazed everyday that anyone supports this woman and what she stands for on women's issues alone - but don't get me started. She needs to be slapped down off her high horse. I can't wait for the debates to begin - let the real Palin be seen for what she is!!!

Bradley   September 10th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

In about an hour I'm sure there will be a McCain ad attributing Matt Damon's comments to the Obama campaign. "Ready to lead, no. Ready to smear, yes."

You can put lipstick on Matt Damon, but he's still Matt Damon. Uh-oh! I guess I just made a sexist remark about Sarah Palin.

Bill   September 10th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

As a Democrat who is NOT voting for Obama, I would have to ask Matt Damon how much we know about Obama? We know nothing. He arrives on the political scene and the world thinks he is wonderful. After only 143 days in the Senate? Obama does not answer questions. He just spouts of the ideals of the Democratic party. Which, I am already aware of. At least Palin governed people before.

The Democrats, my party, turned their back on Hillary Clinton, so I am turning my back on them.

One less vote for Obama. I am a McCain-Palin Democrat!

Jasen Rogers   September 10th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

And how is an actor's opinion front page news? Where is the counter balance of the actor saying what a great president she would make? Our country has a tendency to follow the media and Hollywood like sheep. We take anything printed or said as gospel. This shouldn't even be news.

Seatttle   September 10th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

Matt Damon hit the nail on the head. I agree 100%, the thought of "President Palin" is terrifying. He does all of us a service by voicing this thought in public. I hope he keeps on saying this whenever and wherever he can. Everyone must give this some serious thought.

J. Sully, New York   September 10th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

I agree completely with Matt Damon. Thanks for telling the truth. In fact, my sister and I were thinking about writing a screenplay about this whole debacle. In fact it would probably be sold as a horror script.

Ron   September 10th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

and what happens if obama's elected? we just got a preview of how he handles a little stress. the man is losing it, his voice is changing he's calling people names, he's spending tons of money to find dirt, not on his opponent but on a running mate. and that we want for a president. i don't think so.

kevin   September 10th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

Are you kidding me? Obama has ZERO experience for the presidency. He was a do-nothing state legislator, and a do nothing Senator. He is a pathetic empty suit and his fervent supporters are frightening in their sheer stupidity and hypocrisy. I hope he gets elected and America gets what it deserves - an even more worthless leader than we have now.

The news media is perpetuating this craziness for ratings sakes and putting all of our troops in harm's way and CNN is leading the charge to slaughter our young men and women in uniform by failing to challenge the lies and distortions that Palin has issued to the public.

Scary isn't the word. Criminal is more like it.

We should boycott the media until they go back to reporting on the issues and leave the sensationalism to the enquirer.

As do I. How can the republican say anything about Obama's political experience and make Palin a VP!?

Kevan, Arkansas   September 10th, 2008 4:34 pm ET

Matt Damon, in that interview, has said more about foreign policy than I've heard from Palin in the last two weeks since she arrived on the scene. All I have heard from her is the same speech she gave at the GOP convention, with a new line here & there. He played Jason Bourne, but she's the one who is reading from a script.

Mair   September 10th, 2008 4:33 pm ET

I think it is more absurd and terrifying that Mr. Obama thinks he has the qualifications to be President from day one as opposed to VP from day one. And to quote you Mr. Damon I think your words can be used to highlight the DNC backing of Mr. Obama for President- "I think the pick was made for political purposes but in terms of governance it’s a disaster."

Boston   September 10th, 2008 4:33 pm ET

Rick K   September 10th, 2008 4:33 pm ET

Taking away the soap opera stories and blogger rumors, the real news stories are still terrifying.

They show a pattern of using positions of power to intimidate, bully, exploit and undermine any kind of opposing view, and even settle personal scores.

They show, in short, exactly what we're getting from Bush, Cheney and Rove. I have no doubt whatsoever that if she felt it in her interest, there would be a CIA agent ruffling through my toiletries.

proud army and navy mom   September 10th, 2008 4:33 pm ET

Matt Damon is a smart man. He's absolutely right. The idea of Palin being one step away from commanding our military is absolutely frightening.

Palin cannot be trusted to raise her own children (whose raising them by the way?) but the US people will trust her with their kids. She's a absolutely moronic joke and mcsenile is on his last legs. yikes!!!!

Levar Patterson   September 10th, 2008 4:33 pm ET

As an Obama supporter I know that the last thing we need is for Matt Damon to come on and make remarks regarding this race.

I still blame John Kerry's loss on Eminem and his remarks that year (not to mention John Kerry sucks)

Hollywood please SHUT UP and let the man win!!! I am sick of fighting these so-called "culture wars" that are used as a distraction from the most important issues like Health Care, Iraq War, the Economy, and Education.

Right Angle   September 10th, 2008 4:33 pm ET

Who is Matt Damon   September 10th, 2008 4:33 pm ET

Who really cares what Matt Damon thinks? Reading how he responded sounded like he was in High School. He doesn't have one comment that makes a clear response as to why she couldn't do it outside of the fact basically that she's a woman with no experience and is a hockey mom. So, what she may turn out to be the best thing that ever happened in Washington. He says he knows nothing about her. What does he know about Obama? As much as the rest of us do which isn't alot. With either one were taking a chance but I'd rather my chances with McCain/Palin over Obama who is increasingly getting more smug and a bigger ego by the day because he thinks he deserves this. I haven't heard anything that makes me feel like he does.

Nick - Arlington, VA   September 10th, 2008 4:33 pm ET

Change for 2009   September 10th, 2008 4:32 pm ET

I respect Palin fas a working mother and as a woman. I how-ever am skeptical in case McCain "kicks the bucket" and she is to lead our Nation. She isn't fit for presidency and no amount of "coaching coaches" can make one a leader. You are either born with it or not.

BKMC   September 10th, 2008 4:32 pm ET

It is real, this situation with an old man running for president and a VP coming from nowhere is scary, please God we will be saved from that disastrous situation after 8 years of failure inside and outside under a republican government and a republican congress.

Mike - MD   September 10th, 2008 4:32 pm ET

Plain and simple. No sexism or partisan influence - well maybe a little. But the point still stands that if McCain should fall, who's shadow will she stand under when she has to face other world leaders? For all the appointed democrats that represent the common American - well these are the things the common American thinks and says - why don't you guys bring these up? Thanks Mr. Damon.

Othello Cato   September 10th, 2008 4:32 pm ET

That's the only reason we are supporting McCain. Our prayers shall be answered and he will die and we will have Palin as president. Finally, we will truly have a conservative president in the white house.I have no doubt that she will not be afraid to nuke Iran.

Katy   September 10th, 2008 4:32 pm ET

Well Matt… this is how the rest of us all feel. The thought of this woman running our country is indeed scary. Unfortunately, the rest of us are not famous, so we are reduced to these blogs to get our voices heard…. and that's if CNN decides to post our comments.

George   September 10th, 2008 4:32 pm ET

Sarah Palin does not represent anything we have grown to expect in our Presidents. Frankly, I think she lacks the intellectual pedigree that we should expect in our President. Nothing in Sarah Palin's family epitomizes the values and ideals of excellence we strive for as individuals. How do we tell young boys to go to college, with a first husband as a college dropout. As President her family values agenda would certainly not be reflected in her family. I don't expect a President to be perfect, but I certainly expect them to reflect values I can strive for.

andy in oxford   September 10th, 2008 4:32 pm ET

excuse me, but why is this news? will it be politcal-ticker-worthy every time anyone with remote name recognition says anything negative about a campaign?
cnn, there is SO much more important stuff to cover in this election. looking down through the ticker, no story is about the issues at stake or how any candidate will fix them. you choose to cover mudslinging, campaign stops, rumor, and endorsements.
this is silly. i'm sick of the way the media covers this election.

These celebrities are not helping Obama's cause. Hearing Palin attacks from Matt Damen is only going to impower Palin. Her appeal is that she is average and relatable. Now she has Hollywood trashing her, and shes only going to become more victimized and empowered. Every celebrity who likes Obama just need to keep thier mouth shut, donate some money, and vote. Otherwise you are doing more harm then good.

KH   September 10th, 2008 4:32 pm ET

People need to condition their minds into looking for answers from the McCain about their failed policies. Palin's speeches now sounds like a broken record - repeating lies until people start believing them to be true.

The media also needs to be more accountable and responsible in their reporting. They need to stop propagating the false republican ads and focus on the issues. If the Ad doesn't speak to the issues, don't spend time highlighting it.
