New McCain ad paints Democrats as a wolfpack hunting Palin.
New McCain ad paints Democrats as a wolfpack hunting Palin.

(CNN) — John McCain's campaign released a new ad Wednesday that portrays Democratic operatives as a vicious wolfpack hunting VP nominee Sarah Palin.

“The attacks on Governor Palin have been called ‘completely false’…’misleading,’” says the female announcer in the 30-second spot, which points to a report from Factcheck.org shooting down many attacks on the Alaska governor. “And they've just begun.”

Watch: The latest McCain ad does a fact check on Obama

The announcer cites a Wall Street Journal column that 30 Democratic lawyers and researchers have been “air dropped” into Alaska “dig dirt” on Palin.

That column, by pundit John Fund, cites anonymous sources in reporting that unnamed Democrats have descended on Anchorage. The Democratic National Committee and the Obama campaign have denied sending anyone to Alaska to conduct research into Palin’s past.

“As Obama drops in the polls, he'll try to destroy her,” says the announcer, as images of a wolfpack appear on screen. "Obama's politics of hope? Empty words."

The McCain campaign said the ad would be airing in “key states,” although it did not say where, or how extensive the buy would be.

there is nothing wrong in using change to promote your career if there i evidence of change in your career but there is something wrong in using you honorable military record as a shield against dishonrble things that warrant scrutiny…john mccain pick a female as if female would vote for their own sex rather than stik to their beliefs..u think george bush is bad try john mccain like john mccain says he is the original maverick..john mmcain has had 24yrs now he wants to talk bout chage

Sally a Proud Republican for Palin   September 10th, 2008 1:58 pm ET

Palin is proud of murdering wolves from a helipcopter and pushed for it to be legal in the ONLY state now since decades.

She started the talk of wolves.

MCCAIN quit hiding behind the Pig's, Pit Bull or whateve animal she wants to kill or call herself next, and come out on your own! Also, send her out alone! Let her fend for herself, kind of like throwing Palin to the media wolves that she deserves. WE are sick of the one-liners from her

Brandon for Obama   September 10th, 2008 1:58 pm ET

PLEASE POST CNN!!!

The McCain camp needs to get their messaging strategy correct. I work in advertising and they are not sending a cohesive message with how they are packaging Gov Palin.

On one hand they say she is a pitbull with lipstick, a maverick. And then on the other hand she is the victim of Democratic bullies and sexism. Pick one, and be consistent with it.

Sen Obama did not portray himself as a victim when at the RNC Guliani and Gov Palin attacked his character and demeaned his work as a community organizer.

I call for all Americans, Repblicans, Democrats, and Independents to hold ourselves to a higher standard. Let's demand that ALL politicians get rid of these stupid ads going back and forth. We are deciding our president, not who is line leader at recess. Calling out substantial policy differences is one thing, but distroting truths and attacking personalities is another.

If we as voters don't respond to their crap…they want put it out there.

While Obama has had some ads labeled negative, I still commend him for his campaign. Overall he has been less negative and has had to retaliate to several attacks made against him…but you don't see him acting like the victim.

Jeanine G   September 10th, 2008 1:57 pm ET

GIVE ME A BREAK! If Obama or Biden disguss Healthcare or children they will trot Palin out to say she is being attacked for having a Down's Syndrome baby….if the word "lipstick" is said in an OLD saying (also used several times by McCain) then they will claim Palin's gender is being attacked. SEXISM they scream!

McCain can't lecture us on sexism when places are selling "supportive" Palin shirts touting his VP choice's "hottness", or declaing her "VPILF"! When they tolerate sexist remarks so long as they garner votes from middle aged men, then don't try to sell us that EVERY negative comment about McCain/Palin is now sexist.

Grow up.

Rob indetroit   September 10th, 2008 1:57 pm ET

TOO FUNNY:)

INSTEAD OF TALKING ABOUT THE ISSUES, MCCAIN & COMPANY WANTS AMERICA TO BELIEVE SARAH IS GETTING PICK ONE. HOW SAD!!!!!

ANYTHING WITH AN UNNAME SOURCE IS VERY UNBELIEVABLE.

PS I GUESS SARAH ISN'T AS STRONG AS HILLARY!!!!

AnIndependent   September 10th, 2008 1:57 pm ET

McCain has no shame! It is so disapointing to see how far he has fallen in his attempt to claim the presidency. His campaign is full of outright lies, ads and fake emails to feed on the innate racism among some people, blatant tries to kiss up to the evangelicals (read that Dobson), etc. Who used the "lipstick on a pig" comment first – why McCain when talking about Hillary's health plan! Did Hillary accuse him of making a derogatory comment about her? NO! So what is this fake outrage when the comment is used by Obama about one of McCain's policies? It is a fake and phony attempt to use Sarah Palin to his advantage. What a hoax! I ask where's the beef in McCain's policies and solutions – he has none! I am so disgusted about the GOP – I was a registered Republican but I saw the lies and hatred in the GOP as it has become and I will not vote for McCain or any other GOP member as long as they are like this.

Obvious   September 10th, 2008 1:57 pm ET

No Hillary = No Obama   September 10th, 2008 1:57 pm ET

Score one for the Mavrick – wait and see, he pull away from Obama in the polls – all I have to say is Obama showed very poor judgment and a very big ego when he ditched Hillary.

Karen   September 10th, 2008 1:57 pm ET

You are kidding me, Right? Maverick Palin has been throwing jabs at Obama starting the night of the Republican Convention and Obama has taken the high road refraining from saying anything coming back at their McCain/Palin nasty campaigning. If the Mavericks can throw jabs, surely they can take a jab or two, although Obama use the same words a year ago to describe the IRAQ war. BOO WOO Repubs. The entire Republican party doesn't have a clue to what the American people want. Let me spell is out for you Repubs. We want to hear how the heck are you going to fixed this country, keep food on our tables, stop jobs for going oversees, stop spending 10 Billion a month in IRAQ while IRAQ has 79 Billion in surplus AND FINALLY BRING OUR TROOPS HOME. The Republicans really think we are going to allow them to steal this election with McCain's last minute 60 day reform change campaign to sway voters. VOTERS be aware of these tactics. My parents say, a tiger never changes it's stripes and some stripes are painted on, so McCain/Palin fit that saying. McCain/Pailin are NOT for change, just more of the same and camouflage for the next 60 days until election. VOTERS BEWARE! Let's get back to the issues at hand.. I agree ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.. I tired of the Mavericks riding the white horse and going no where.

quent97   September 10th, 2008 1:57 pm ET

It's a shame that in our great country we have come to perceive more of what is not there than what is there. What the repubs are saying is that it doesn't matter whether their claims are true, just so long as we Americans believe them to be. AND their claims are largely aimed at women. So I say, as a woman, we women really need to wake up and be alert because as far as the repubs are concerned, this election is riding squarely on our backs.

Additionally, with what I am seeing from so many women who are falling so deeply for this tripe, I don't know if I will ever vote for a woman because I don't like the large amount of whinning we are doing. This is not what I would want in the WH, whether as Prez or V. Prez.

smokesignals   September 10th, 2008 1:57 pm ET

McCain/Palin campaign is running the sleaziest and most untrue ads I've ever witnessed.
I'm appalled and really ashamed that a woman is involved with this kind of politics. Too bad she really is a pig with lipstick. Seems that way.
Caught in obvious lies, they continue to spread them!
Good grief, America! Are you really not listening?

Sunnydaz   September 10th, 2008 1:57 pm ET

Here we go again. Choose a running mate who is a complete unknown so that there's no (presumed) baggage. Check. Choose a woman, because all women are stupid enough to buy into her simply because she's a woman. Check. Choose a woman because all of Clinton's former backers will happily follow any woman with 2 yrs. experience since they can't have Clinton's 35 year track record. Check. Do not select a Republican woman/man with extensive experience, because then they'll expect to have some kind of voice in the process of governing if elected. Check. Choose a girlie-eye-candy sort of chick, since that's what McCain's male backers (71%) want to see. Check. Make sure to attack quickly if anyone actually wants to check out the girlie who'd be a heartbeat away from leading the free world. Check, check, check. We can all sleep well tonight– Republican newspeak is alive and well.

Peter E   September 10th, 2008 1:57 pm ET

Crybabies! When was the last time Obama talked about issues or his record? Oh right. Let's divert the attention back to attacking McCain to keep people from realizing how lackluster Obama's record is…

Cyndi   September 10th, 2008 1:57 pm ET

Tell me why the Republicans are spending money on stupid ads. People this goes to show that the Republicans don't have a clue what to and how to win except make people angry. Republicans get a life and stop trying to destroy the American People with lies and hatred again the Democratic Party. If Palin had any sense at all she would know that she is there only as a show pony. She is not free to roam and speak for herself. Let her out of the corral McCain so we can really see what she can do.

Disgusted in America   September 10th, 2008 1:57 pm ET

Palin is an attack dog on the leash of the republicans.

John McCain can't draw crowds so let's trot out our trophy VP.
John McCain can't attack Obama so let's trot out our trophy VP.
John McCain can't give a speech worth listening to so let's trot out our trophy VP.
John McCain can't get women to vote for him so let's trot out our trophy VP.
John McCain can't get the MSM to focus on him so let's trot out our trophy VP.
John McCain can't even campaign effectively so let's trot out our trophy VP.

It's disgusting…and shame on the MSM for letting the McCain campaign get away with this. I have not heard these people talk about the issues since they trotted out their trophy VP and the MSM is going to allow the idiots in this country to elect another substandard president.

It's SHAMEFUL.

I commend Obama for not apologizing. This is just another attempt by the Republicans to stay away from the issues. The reality of it is if you are bad enough to come out and compare yourself to a dog w/lipstick then you should be bad enough to take the comments that will go along with that. I agree with Obama enough is enough. We should all be angry about what they are trying to do in this election. We should all be mad at how they are disrespecting us as citizens and as human beings. It stops now. I will no longer look at these news shows if this is the coverage they will have. I will just look at the Daily Show and Stephen Colbert if we have to get silly media we might as well get a laugh out of it.

MOre GOP hypocracy designed to keep Amercians from voting for real change to out country, that the McCain people broke in the first place with thier stupid wars and stealing from the taxpqayer's money.

That pig line is one McCain himself made famous!
And Palin called herself a pitbull in lipstick.

Sorry to point that out folks, and I'm sure I am now a sexist for reminding everyone. But th ecomment started with the GOP, and is now being used so that for another week McCain does not have to tell us what exactly he is going to do for the country.

Here are some facts:
For a drop in the bucket, every single kid in the state could have health insurance," said state Rep. Les Gara, a Democrat from Anchorage, Alsaka "For a drop in the bucket, we don't have to be one of the worst states in terms of high school graduation rates.
That is Palin's "record".
Why is she unable to answer even th e most basic questions about it? How is someone like this even fit to lead?

So I say to you:
Ms. Palin, if you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen.
And Mr. McCain, why are you hiding behind this woman's skirt?
Shouldn't you be working on your platform. Oh, I forgot you don't have a plan for change, just a speech about it.

I'm a single mother and a christian and I have had enough of this republican BS talk.

Over my years I have voted for the best candidate (in my opinion) regardless of my differences with candidate and Yes I have crossing party lines sometimes. But I am not gonna not vote for Obama because he is black.

Let's say that McCain was Black and Obama was white – I vote Obama!
Let's say that Obama was 72 years old and McCain was 47 years old -I would still vote for Obama

Palin is a fraud and her politics lacks any substance whatsoever. two weeks after her divisive vile mouthing at the GOP convention, Palin is yet to have any discussions on bread and buitter, meat and potato issues of concern to the American people. Palin is being sheilded, Macain knows that Palin is a fraud and the American people will know that way in time before the elections.

I found out from Alaskans that Palins old politics of tearing down her opponents created for her a lot of seriuos enemies and that the only reason Palin sold the Governor's jet was because she was afraid to fly in it, thinking that some of his enemies might compromise its safe operation.

M. Winners, Mesa, AZ   September 10th, 2008 1:53 pm ET

The part of the McCain roll out of Palin that has me confused is what job she will hold in his administration. McCain says that he cannot wait to set her loose on Washington. That she will clean up Washington and end earmarks and lobbyist influence. If those statements are true, then she should be running for the Senate or House, not VP. The Vice President does not do any of the jobs McCain is advertising that Palin will do in his administration. I'm just saying….

Vicki K   September 10th, 2008 1:53 pm ET

Why are the Republicans spewing such venom and turning any statement into an attack on Palin? Despite the fact that I believe that she is a truly mean person, with very bad ideas and an evil attitude, the Obama campaign is more or less handling things with respect. McCain, on the other hand, has lost any iota of respect from me. He has proven that he's a dottering old fool who is desperate to win. Unfortunately, enough Americans may be lemmings enough to fall for the McCain/Palin lies, and downright evil campaign tactics.

This is Karl Rove, Ann Coulter and Hannity 101. Someone sends out emails so you link it to Obama. Nevermind the millions of emails about obama being Muslim and linked to terrorists, which I am sure Rove played a hand in.

You accuse your opponent of attacking you when they haven't and everyone believes it. And meanwhile that FactCheck.org article if anyone bothered to read it, only slightly debunks wild internet rumors about her, not anything about the Bridge to Nowhere fiasco and her charging 300+ days per diem when she was at home! But the facts don't matter with Republicans, they never did.

MikeH   September 10th, 2008 1:51 pm ET

The only proven liar, (see the TIME article for responsible journalism, don't waste your time with CNN) is Sarah Palin.

The only proven corrupt politician (See the Washington Post article for responsible journalism, don't waste your time with CNN) is Sarah Palin.

CNN, when are going to start saying that you're 'Fair and Balanced'?

Anonymous   September 10th, 2008 1:51 pm ET

You are kidding me, Right? If Palin can take jabs at Obama for a week now and have been taking the high road by not responding to smear campaigning, then Maverick Palin should be women enough to receive a jab or two, although I remember Obama using the same words to describe the IRAQ WAR. BOO WOO REPUBS!

Sam   September 10th, 2008 1:51 pm ET

So…our nation is at war, our economy is basically in a recession, home values have plummeted, we are more dependant on foriegn oil than ever, our climate is changing before our eyes, Tom Brady is out for the season and this is all McCain can talk about…Please for the love of God talk about at least 1 issue this week that matters to the American people. Ok, maybe Brady is not a pressing concern if you don't play fantasy football.

Matt M.   September 10th, 2008 1:51 pm ET

That's ridiculous — if Governor Palin was being hunted by wolves, she'd simply shoot at them with a shotgun from a low-flying airplane. That's one of the hunting techniques she advocates, after all.

It's amazing to see what her true value to the Republicans is: as a straw dummy. All she has to do is stand there with a sardonic grin and repeat sound bites over and over. In the meantime, everything that Obama, Biden, their supporters, or the media say or do is twisted by the McCain campaign into a sexist, personal attack on Palin.

It's the worst kind of politics. I'll be glad when this election is over and McCain goes back to the Senate and Palin fades back into obscurity.

OBAMA/BIDEN '08: The team with experience who are ready to lead on day one!

Sam   September 10th, 2008 1:51 pm ET

Wake up America, please don't listen to the lies of the Repubilcan. We don't need 4 more years of them. Vote Democrats or Independents. Go Obama Biden.

robinhood   September 10th, 2008 1:51 pm ET

OOPs.. Put a fork in Mr. Obamba he is done… Lets all send him a lipstick purchased at Wal Mart….

Dpavel   September 10th, 2008 1:50 pm ET

'The announcer cites a Wall Street Journal column that 30 Democratic lawyers and researchers have been “air dropped” Alaska to conduct “dig dirt” on Palin.'

Even if this never makes it, can someone please proofread their articles before posting them? Please least tell me how '“air dropped” Alaska to conduct “dig dirt” on Palin' is in any way grammatically sound and makes any sense.

Homestead, FL   September 10th, 2008 1:50 pm ET

I saw this today … what is the difference between sarah palin and dan quayle? lipstick

Esther Godfrey   September 10th, 2008 1:50 pm ET

Equality is about equality. Hold Palin to the same standards as men. Make her answer questions (to reporters) and explain the contradictions (lies) that she has already put forth. You can't be a pit bull and then complain because someone growled at you.

Obama isn't scared, but I'm disappointed in my country and the media for caving to the right. Stand up. Just cause someone says something is so, doesn't make it so.

DEM   September 10th, 2008 1:50 pm ET

How is it that the polls are showing McCain ahead, yet the responses on almost all of these types of articles are 90+% pro-Obama? Makes me feel hopeful for the future of our country. I'm thinking that the suggestions that the younger voters (the ones who know how to blog and surf the web) are not the ones that get polled. Also… CNN!!! REPORT ON THE REAL ISSUES, NOT STUPID TABLOID FODDER!!!

Diane   September 10th, 2008 1:50 pm ET

I am so totally confused as to why people are not realizing that John McCain is saying absolutely nothing during his campaign speeches , except insulting Obama. This whole election has turned into nothing but a circus among the campaigns, with the republicans being worse.
Why is John McCain spending more time defending Sarah Palin, who by the way is set to give her first official press interview tomorrow, than he is talking about his policies and plans of actions. I'll tell you why, because he is exactly like the idiot that will be leaving office in the months ahead. Wake up people!

JusLaugh   September 10th, 2008 1:50 pm ET

As a woman, I am disgusted by the exploitation of Sarah Palin's gender by the McCain campaign.

She is not a victim and by trying to portray her as such, they are setting women's rights back several decades.

If we want equality, we must earn it, not manipulate it. That's what Hillary stood for and that's why she got my vote. This blatant exploitation by McCain is is simply degrading.

She is not a victim. She knew what she was getting into. If she were a strong woman, she could take it without whining, like Hillary did. This is a ploy to get sympathy votes.

Greg in AR   September 10th, 2008 1:50 pm ET

Actually, I think all those unnamed Democrats are really just out of work folks that have lost their jobs to Republican out-sourcing and are just looking for some of that left over moose Palin claims to have skinned. They need to feed their family too.

MK   September 10th, 2008 1:50 pm ET

I can believe that McCain is like any other politician, and will do anything and say anything to win this election, which I am sure the McCain WILL NOT win against Obama/Biden.

I can believe that it probably is true about the Republicans (McCain included) did indeed post an ad suggesting that Obama favored sex ed to 5 year olds.

McCain might have led off to be a different kind of politician, but he sure did a bunch of flip-flops and now is acting as if he is the second coming of change.

WAKE UP KEN!

Denise Worker   September 10th, 2008 1:50 pm ET

At least when wolves hunt they do so on the ground, a level playing field with their prey. Maybe the Obama campaign should embrace the aerial hunting technique for hunting wolves espoused by Ms. Palin as Alaska's Governor (without the bounty for the hacked off foreleg perhaps).

Guy, MO   September 10th, 2008 1:49 pm ET

I think McCain is afraid of her. I watched the convention footage when Cindy Lou was trying to stand on the other side of John and he pushed her in between him and Sarah. What's up with that? Is he worried he may get too close to his hot babe?

PALIN GOT NO VETTING   September 10th, 2008 1:49 pm ET

So, do not complain now when there is so much to work with in her past!

TC   September 10th, 2008 1:49 pm ET

Governor Palin should not have allowed Senator McCain to put her in the frying pan if she couldn't stand the heat. I thought the only difference between her and a pit bull was that she wore lipstick. Now I know a pit bull is mean and vicious so since she is like a pit bull she should be able to handle the heat. Stop whinning, she put herself in this position so she is fair game and this is coming from a woman who has worked in a male dominated career field for over 20 years. Sarah handle your own and stop crying just like I handle mine on my job.

Kelby from Houston, TX   September 10th, 2008 1:49 pm ET

HA! You wish. Look republicans and republican operatives, We are not hunting Palin. She is not a major issue concerning America. I know you wish we would start paying attention to these talking points but around my area gas is still 3.79 and up, millions of people are still losing their homes and the deficit is still growing. And you think that the Democrat, liberals and other people who support Obama are concerned about Palin? No. We have other pressing issues.

BTW, how can Palin be America's most popular governor, but the press and the dems are supposed to be afraid of her because we have never heard of her?!??!

OBAMA'08

Al from Florida   September 10th, 2008 1:49 pm ET

Enough is enough!! We can not be fooled by the nasty politics of the republican party again. I beg the media not to keep helping the mccain camp and running these awful smears over and over. TALK ABOUT THE
ISSUES!!!! If the media doesn't run it over and over it will not gain legitimacy. We will not survive the next four years if we continue like the last eight.

Jason   September 10th, 2008 1:49 pm ET

Obama is angry because he was getting away with the race card and now that Palin is playing the sex card they are on even footing in that respect.

Dave in Houston   September 10th, 2008 1:49 pm ET

The Dems are doing McCain's job — they're vetting Sarah Palin.

And if they are showing how Sarah Palin really faces wolf packs, it should be from high up in the safety of a helicopter where she can cowardly shoot them from on high. Some sportswoman!

ZANE   September 10th, 2008 1:49 pm ET

This little"pitbull" came out yapping and yapping and yapping. She can sure dish it out, but doesn't want to take any. Hush up little pup!
OBAMA in 2008!

MaryanneAZ   September 10th, 2008 1:49 pm ET

Where there's smoke, there's fire!!! We get that. No Way. No How. No McCain and definitely NO PALIN. That woman is the epitome of everything we women have fought against over the last 200 years. Not this time. Not this election. Obama/Biden '08

tony   September 10th, 2008 1:49 pm ET

Ok ! so now he's Jesus, God help us

Margrit, Phoenix, Arizona   September 10th, 2008 1:48 pm ET

For heaven sake enough already.
Start talking Issues.
Health Care needs serious overhaul.
The CLINTONS were on the right track in 1993
I was at the Hana Ranch in Hawaii when Hillary was there checking how social Medicine was able to work there just fine.
I happened to be in a Dr's Office myself there as a young man came in with a serious infected foot.
He said: "I don't know if you can help me, I have no insurance".
The Nurse answered: "Don't worry, everyone gets treated here".

I heard McCain say that the Clinton's plan was rejected by the American people.
That is absolutely not true. The American people were never asked.
It was rejected by the powerful pharmaceutical lobbyists.

So – get down to the nitty gritty and start talking ISSUES instead of POLITICAL SQUABLING!

JohnLee   September 10th, 2008 1:48 pm ET

Attacks…what. No one knows anything about her? The republicans do far worse to anyone running so I'm not sure I believe they can call these attacks on Palin. What do they expect – everyone is going to just accept her because they say to? What kind of campaign is that?

Casey, Minneapolis, MN   September 10th, 2008 1:48 pm ET

The scary part in all of this is that according to the polls, this ridiculous charade by the Republicans is somehow working. Truly frightening.

Patriot   September 10th, 2008 1:48 pm ET

TheTruthHurts   September 10th, 2008 1:48 pm ET

This country is now on literally — borrowed time. We'd better wake up and make a choice that LEADS us out of this mess or our children, grandchildren are going to pay the price.

Our economy is what allows our military power, our global democratic reach, our international influence. Our economic power is waning. We hitched our boat to fossil fuels and they are killing us because we only own 4% of world reserves. We decided that the worlds largest economy would be a debtor nation instead of a creditor nation. These ridiculous choices must be reversed — no matter who you support — or we're in for a long painful slide.

I could not support Ron Paul, but I agree that too many are missing the point — caught up in USELESS DISTRACTIONS. We need to wake up and focus on what's important or our children will pay the price. Without the public behind these significant changes, it doesn't matter who we elect. APATHY is the enemy.

Ryan   September 10th, 2008 1:48 pm ET

Whiners…you are right, Obama does have a policy…raise taxes and destroy our economy while dismantiling our military.

God help us if Obama/Biden are in charge.

what a load of crap. I work with foreign nationals in 18 different countries and practically every non-American (even in the third world!) I've spoken to is in disbelief how the American people can actually be so utterly stupid to fall for the smear tactics in play from the repuglicans and let them take office again. McLame is using Palin to garner sympathy, divert media attention to keep her constantly in the limelight (even as all she is doing is yapping off her convention speech off notecards ad nauseum).
My stomach turned when McCain crowed "change is coming!!" in his convention speech – especially that "oh-im-so-pathetic-i-just-stole-obama's-line-but-you-guys-are-clapping-so-its-all-good" smile… made me sick. So Lame. This guy cant even stick to his own campaign slogans, how will he figure out how to dig us out of the hole Bush has left us in?!??!
As one foreign friend put it, this just proves that in America, people will think with their "other parts" and not their brains, and will put legs and lipstick over the real ISSUES. And, Americans love Drama to be part of real life. And so, McCain is giving it to them. And as for women, only those that have a very low self-esteem could actually ever vote for McCain-Palin.

this is real life people, not an American Idol contest!!! for the love of God, wake up!!!

justin   September 10th, 2008 1:47 pm ET

good hold them accountable… i love watching obama desperate. heturns into the rest of em… he's no different. Just has no experience!

Silly   September 10th, 2008 1:47 pm ET

So now Democrats are a wolfpack going after Palin? I don't recall the Democrats going after Palin on anything except for her record, which is terrible… Obama stood up for her when the press was going after her daughter.

We've spent the last 19 months vetting 3 of the 4 candidates. This lady can't expect to come in and expect everyone to greet her with open arms. We have a lot of vetting to do in a short amount of time, and we, as voters, HAVE A RIGHT TO KNOW ABOUT HER. It's not our fault or the Democrats' fault that her record is so atrocious.

I guess now we just wait for the Republicans to do the honorable (cheating) thing and jump in a plane to chase down the wolves for no reason whatsoever.

Absurd.

Jane, OK   September 10th, 2008 1:47 pm ET

What the hell, it's the media, not Al Quaeda. What is she afraid of? I guess being tough takes more than photos with guns.

OBAMA WILL LIE AND CHEAT TO WIN   September 10th, 2008 1:47 pm ET

I hope John McCain and Rich Beeson are paying very close attention to Obama's ground mounting activities.
Obama lies and cheats and so do all his handlers. You had better have people counting the votes at every polling place.
Obama is staking his life on this election……….he's already said he'll win………….this man is so dangerous that he will do anything it takes to get into the white house so he can put his agenda in place.

Michael in Houston   September 10th, 2008 1:47 pm ET

Oh great they just called al dems mangy wild pack of dogs. Nice McKlan, and let me guess, Paliar is going to hunt them all down and shoot them. Great. let's just start the second Revolutionary War Mcidiot. You know, he does not know how to get out of his own way. You are a horrible people McCain and Palin. Both of you need to quit spending money making commercials and spend that money on your retirement party that you will having on Novemebr 5, 2008. You will lose and more than likely will never be re-elected Senator or Govnener McCain and Palin.

Earl   September 10th, 2008 1:47 pm ET

Palin is the one killing wolves. By the way, why is she running from being interviewed by the press. What is she afraid of. Or what are the republicans afraid of unless there is something to hide

Ray   September 10th, 2008 1:47 pm ET

I don't think i've seen a single McCain/Palin ad that actually talks about isses. it's all attacks and lies against Obama. It's sad that this is the only strategy the GOP can come up with in this election year.

williefloyd   September 10th, 2008 1:47 pm ET

I have tried most of this a.m. to post a comment-CNN please post this!!
I voted for McCain in 2000. This is not the same man running today.

I have tried to maintain at least an ounce of respect for him for his service in Vietnam. But his ad re: Obamas' effort to protect children from pedophiles and predators is beneath contempt. I no longer respect anything about this man. He has been in the gutter for quite some time now-he has now sunk to the sewer.

His campaign was going to be based on issues-not personal attacks. Just another of his lies. He has no plan on any issue and has made that very clear. His first important decision as the nominee was to choose his v.p. Well he blew that in a big way. So much for his judgement.

Enough said.

OBAMA/BIDEN

Can we please talk about the issues that matter.

Dan, Ohio   September 10th, 2008 1:47 pm ET

I love how factcheck.com can be cited when it debunks myths about Palin but they completely ignore how it has proven nearly all of McCain and Palin's attacks to be false.

MICHAEL   September 10th, 2008 1:47 pm ET

Poor little Sarah. Boy you can dish it out, but can't take it. Let's get Sarah up in front of a crowd without any rehearsed lines. She's like a puppet on stage just move her mouth and arms with strings. Has any original statement ever come out of her?

Patriot Patrick of Houston   September 10th, 2008 1:47 pm ET

Addressing palin's claim to be a hockey mom: Which of her kids plays hockey? Does she spend most of her time being a good mother? From the pictures I see, her kids are running wild with rednecks, guns and alcohol. Sure, kids should be off limits but palin's ability to manage her household is indicative of how she'd manage our country. She's lies as much as any old time politician. The republicans play the gender card as a means to distract. The media is in on it. And this is NOT a duplicate comment but CNN doesn't want the truth out.

FrankinPhilly   September 10th, 2008 1:46 pm ET

Palin and her record is a legitimate target: Trying to have books banned and then attempting to fire the librarian who would not cooperate; let's not overlook Troopergate; her support for the Bridge to Nowhere until it was politcally inconvenient, then Alaska kept all the money for the project anyway, oh and then she lied about her opposition to the bridge; her opposition to stem cell research; her lying about selling government property on ebay for a profit when she actually sold for a loss; the fact that she believes it is god's will to build an Alaskan pipeline and conduct a misguided war in Iraq; her ridiculous belief in creationism (that alone should disqualify her for office) and her belief that it should be taught in school; her ridiculous support for abstinence only (waste of money); her caustic, nihilistic sarcasm regarding Obama . . . I could go on.

linda n carolina   September 10th, 2008 1:46 pm ET

Sarah Palin is a coward. This is ridiculous, not speaking to the press since the convention. She is such a baby letting everyone else speak for her. If she isn't ready to deal with the press she is ready for the job of VP. Give me a break… A coward and an amateur…nice pick McCain.

McCain campaign and especially Sarah needs to grow up. We need to know everything and I mean everything about you Sarah before we vote for you. Anyone who has information please help us (voters) find out who Sarah is. It is about electing a leader for our Country. MCCain has given us enough details and a lot of lies about Obama. Nothing wrong with knowing all the Dirt about the governor. We are making a big decision here…and we do not know this Sarah.

Personally, I am tired of all of this petty childish do as I say not as I do behavior. I believe McCain has used the pig and lipstick analogy (sp), why was it ok for him and not Obama?

As a woman, I would like to think we've come a long way, but the reality is…Governor Palin is in for a load of crap…it doesn't matter if you like her and her politics or not, she is a woman running for a traditionally male dominated field. She made a choice to accept the nomination, now she has to deal with the consequences of her choices.

Politics suck! If you aren't strong enough to stand up to the scrutiny of your choices, your reputation and your work history…get out of the game…and shut up about it. It's time to grow up.

I am one average American that is sick and tired of all this crap. Start talking about what is important in real life!!! the Economy! The war! Education! Health Care!

Have you ever noticed how he will not look directly into the camera, kinda like his is trying to hide something. And what is so funny is now the Hillary lovers are saying that Obama should have chosen her for VP. So what are you saying, being a half is not bad?

One more thing, at least Saral Palin don't have a problem taking stand on an issue. Big hips Hillary is still playing to the camera.

Phoenix   September 10th, 2008 1:44 pm ET

While Palin should not be cyber hazed, I'm sorry, I have a problem with the McCain Campaign using Rove like attacks but then whining when the chickens come home to roost. When Obama tried to deal with you like you had some sense, you couldn't handle it. Now, that people outside of the camp are dealing with McCain/Palin like the idiots they are, now its crying time. Looks like the pitbulls are puppies that need milk.

I'm like so many others: Eight is enough!

I am a devoted Christian, mother of six, pro-life and do not agree with same sex marriage, but I do not believe in forcing my views on others who are on the opposite side of my views. I believe in respecting people regardless of their race, gender, or faith.

The issue that I am most concerned about is our educational system – it's broken and desperate need of repairs. The second issue, like so many others, that the Bush Administration and McCain campaign are in agreement with is our economy — it's economically /fundamentally sound. The issues that ties these two jokes together are what true Americans should be concerned. If the majority support such hypocrisy, they do deserve what they get. May God bless them!

I'm voting with a clear conscience:

Poor wittle Sarah, can't take the heat?
How about we cut the BS and discuss the 9 trilllion dollar debt,
the two wars that are bankrupting this country, the rising unemployment rate, the failing economy, the millions without health insurance. I have yet to hear Palin or McCain utter anything of substance. Palin is reguritating the same speech that was written for her, over and over again. And McCain just stands there like a doofus and fidgets with his fingers.
Can the American people possibly be this stupid?

Are you kidding   September 10th, 2008 1:44 pm ET

Has anyone actually sat down and analysed how Barrack Obama became, first a Illinois rep in State Congress and then a U.S. Senator? I'm not sure I want to trust Luck and technicalities to work too many times for the U.S. President.

Sean from NC   September 10th, 2008 1:44 pm ET

Get over it hypocrites! The GOP has been doing this to Obama for months now. America has 2 months to get to know her. If McCain picked someone who was known outside of Alaska there wouldn't even be a problem.

Patriot Patrick of Houston   September 10th, 2008 1:44 pm ET

Addressing palin's claim to be a hockey mom: Which of her kids plays hockey? Does she spend most of her time being a good mother? From the pictures I see, her kids are running wild with rednecks, guns and alcohol. Sure, kids should be off limits but palin's ability to manage her household is indicative of how she'd manage our country. She's lies as much as any old time politician. The republicans play the gender card as a means to distract. The media is in on it.

Palin advocates hunting wolves from airplanes and helicopters. Chasing them down until they collapse from exhaustion then they are shot from the air or at close range. At least the Dems are hunting her from the ground. More fair that way.

I loved that movie.

I, too, sing America   September 10th, 2008 1:43 pm ET

For shame.
The republicans talk of hope in one room, and stir the waves of rancor, mistrust and discord in another. Do they really want this country to be united, or it just about the oval office?

I want to hear about issues, and I haven't heard them talk about REAL change, or anything that matters to people I KNOW.

People still are suffering after floods, hurricanes, having their companies shut down, getting sick and not being able to afford care, and veterans are homeless.

How does our candidate respond? By throwing mud or pulling the gender card.

Grow up.

PALIN "SPEAKING IN TONGUES" AGAIN   September 10th, 2008 1:43 pm ET

If Palin would stop telling lies such as "no to the bridge to nowhere" then maybe Dems would relinquish the hold on the "pitbull" but until she stops lying to all of America no kid glovers.

Let us not forget the Republican Nazi Party fired 3 salvos last Wednesday night that started this "scorched earth" campaign, so do not blame Dems now just for making sure "no sprig ever grows there again"!

P.S. I am the only one concerned that Palin is still giving the same speech for a week, but she still needs note cards? Just a thougt.

Kat   September 10th, 2008 1:43 pm ET

This is so typical of the "swift boat" mentallity of the republican party. McCain was the first one to use the "Lipstick on a Pig" comment but now that he has a woman on the ticket its sexist???? Give me a break. If she can't take the heat, she needs to get outta the fire. She has no substance, talks out of both sides of her mouth etc.

Let's see – Bridge to Nowhere – was for it until she decided to run for Governor and saw how unpopular it was. Changed her mind to benefit her political career. Took the $$$$$ though. But used the $$ for other pork barrel projects. If she was a true Maverick then she would have said "Thanks but no thanks" Alaska's budget is big enough, we can handle our own earmarks. BUT, she didn't do that. Mayor of a small town, inherited ZERO DEBT. Leaves office for further her career, leaves town $23 million in debt. Oh yea, believes the Iraq was is a "Mission of God". Give me a royal break. Wake up people.

The GOP slams everything and everyone with lies, defamation and deception. McSame needs to own up to the fact that he picked a virtual unknown without properly vetting her. The American Public deserves to know her questionable practices, past and lack of experience as well as why did McSame pick her. (anti-choice)

If anything, the Obama campaign has been kind to Palin by keeping her family dynamics "off limits"……something the GOP would have never done. It's high time for the Democrats to point out the hypocrisies and LIES that is the GOP.

Americans are waking up and realizing our lives aren't that good right now unless you are wealthy. AND WE HAVE THE POWER TO CHANGE THAT.

Why is CNN not calling McCain and Palin on their lies?

Independent from GA   September 10th, 2008 1:42 pm ET

I think the Dems are falling for the trick as it looks like the Reps ploy to distract Obama worked. We SERIOUSLY need to get America back to focusing on the ISSUES that affect everday working people. Not the top 10%. Obama needs to be more vocal about this and stop getting distracted by "outside noises".

As one of the women Palin is trying to persuade, I don't think she or McCain is focusing on the issues I want to hear about. abortion, economy, healthcare, energy, foreign policies…etc… Once of the problems I have with Palin is that Bristol has the ability to make a choice in keeping her baby or not, but these are the same choices Palin wants to take away from America. Imagine if they were in China where you don't have a choice but abortion… How would that make them feel? People come to America for the promise of freedom, the promise of choice, the promise of a better life.

We need to stick with the issues that matters most to 95% of Americans. I am simply dissapointed at how we Americans cannot see that this should be our focus. Age, gender and religion should be not part of politics… Instead we should focus on POLICIES. I hope that America is smart enough to see through this because our children and their children depends on it.

LET US DEBATE THE FAKE EVANGELICALS

These Republicans call themselves evangelicals, well i have news for them…the hottest part of the devils mansion is being reserved for them. These are a bunch of hypocrites and double standard mongers who call themselves por-life while they do not have sympathy to stem-cell research which will impact/save lives. They hide under pro-life and are full of hate and extreemism. They complain that we need to stop islamic extreemists from being leaders in mid-east (i agree) but want to vote in christian extreemist in America. They know McCain lies about obama in all his ads and refuse to caution him (pro-lies). They will not do any research as long as the candidiate no matter how dysfunctional say "i'm pro-life",,,they take the bait. Palin cut budget fro physically chalenged children by 60% when she was Governor before she had her baby….nobody is saying anything about that. If they let this McBush ticket into office, they are saying that the last 8 yrs of suffering is okay for us and God will deal with these hypocrites……see where Bush, pro-life fiscal conservative has gotten us.Now McCain a fake version who by the way is an adulterer….(i hear d fakes say …ohhh its okk!) will be better? If he was not good enough when he ran for president against Bush(who by the way was voted in by these FAKE evangelicals) that means we are in for worse years ahead than the last 8…….SAD, SO SAD!

Job   September 10th, 2008 1:42 pm ET

CNN, even when you try to be fair I can’t help but feel that you’re trying to divert the fact that the democrats are losing momentum. When the Republican had a legitimate issue with Obama’s inexperience, the “elite” media tried to defend their poster child. Palin now receives the “rock star” attention Obama once received. McCain – Palin is on the offensive, and you want to talk about race –Roland to be specific.
So let’s talk about race shall we. It’s harder for a person to stand out in a crowd of “Majority,” but it’s easier for a person to excel above the norm in a crowd of “Minority” because the standard is not as high. Obama and Palin fall in the same category, minority. He’s black and she’s a woman.
Everyone keeps talking about Paline’s experience and use the phrase “heartbeat away” to antiquate McCain. It should be McCain vs. Obama. You’re subconsciously lowering Obama to be a VP candidate. Personally, I rather wonder if Palin is the right person to be a heartbeat away than to have a heart attack knowing, Obama, is the heartbeat. It’s like comparing apple to orange. I rather hire an experienced professional and know the job is going to be done right… I don’t want a text book graduate applying an unshaped ideology with no historical experience that I can measure. The executive branch is not a place to test and apply your ideology. A good example is the Iraq surg. The reality is that our lives are in the hands of the most powerful person on earth. If this country does not have peace and security, how then does it expect its people to be productive? Social programs are nothing but a bandage – Self reliance to excel (In GOD) is the true essence of being a human.

KW, Vail AZ   September 10th, 2008 1:42 pm ET

McCain and Palin can't discuss issues if they don't understand them, and more importantly, don't have any new solutions.

Jeff S.   September 10th, 2008 1:41 pm ET

Let's relate the selection of Palin as VP to "everyday" living. Would any business owner or employer hire someone who they met twice and spoke with for 15 minutes to become second in command of their organization knowing down the road they could be number one? Does that make any sense to anyone? It surely doesn't make sense to me and we're talking about being second in command in the free world not just a company.

Raymond K Hessel   September 10th, 2008 1:41 pm ET

McCain is right. We shouldn't ask her any questions or request that she clarify any of her positions. We should just let her sneak on in under the radar. How crazy of us! Ask the potential VP actual real questions! What were we thinking!?!?

HER AWFUL AND OTHERWISE NON-EXISTENT RECORD.

Her 15 minutes of fame are almost over and when the lights go down, everyone will consider the fact that she opposes each and every abortion regardless of it's reason, that she thinks America is supposed to do "God's work," that she doesn't believe in global warming, that she supported the wasteful bridge to nowhere, that she is a proponet of censorship and control via book banning, and that SHE IS MORE CONSERVATIVE THAN BUSH.

ENOUGH WILL BE ENOUGH. JUST GIVE IT A WEEK.

We all know things spread on the internet are mostly untrue about candidates ,but trying to turn this election into a Obama against Palin battle just keeps us from focusing on the real issues .

What is so sad is that this seems to work for the GOP , it did four yrs ago . I just know I care about issues , and second to that McCains age and leaving us with Palin as President . Now that folks is something to worry about…..

The McCain campaign is spining this into all about Palin to get the attention off a 72 yr old Bush twin!

Yep , McCain you sure put Country First—NOT!!

Gail   September 10th, 2008 1:41 pm ET

Sarah Palin said that individuals make better decisions for themselves than government. ( see ontheissues.org) Why then is she against a woman's right to choose? Why is it ok for her to get up at the Republican Convention and give a speech full of insults, but it is not ok for the Democrats to bring attention to her lies?

How unwise of them to use the 'wolf' term, given that the Defense of Wildlife group has a video of Gov. Palin advocating aerial wolf hunting and offering $150 for the front foreleg (graphically displayed in the video) of any wolf shot and killed. This is just sad.

When McCain/Palin start saying something of substance, news should cover it…until then, don't give them any more free press. They shunned the press, it's time for the press to shun them.

Obama couldn't be a worse candidate and his elitest approach of looking down on everyone is utterly replusive. Any woman that votes for those two male egomanics (Obama/Biden) needs to question whether or not they're truely interested in equallity for women.

outsourcing of American jobs

depleted oil resources and the need for alternatives
stem cell research
veterans education and health care
ending the war in Iraq
global warming

Brandon for Obama   September 10th, 2008 1:40 pm ET

We have real issues facing this country. Dear God, if this is how McCain is going to run his campaign – creating false issues, instead of dealing with a destablized economy – what kind of administration will he run?

Get back to the issues and let Palin face the people with real discussions and interviews. McCain must be realizing what a HUGE mistake he made, considering what he is doing right now.

Has the presidential election turned into homecoming week?

Are we choosing our candidate based on issues or what type of person he/she is?

Americans should be appauled by the way John McCain has handled this election. He has offered the American people nothing. Except; DRILL, DRILL, DRILL.

My vote goes for Obama, the community organizer.

Talk about the bloody issues! I'm sure the small town folks who have flocked to the Palin farce are glad their tax dollars are being used for this ad. What's the point? How does that help the housing market? They need to stop treating her like a little doll.

Well there GOES another one of your tactics non-useable….T—R—U—T–H is the celebrity wanna be….

12 days and counting since Governor Palin was introduced as Senator McCain's Running Mate. 12 days and the media has not had a chance to interview Governor Palin. 12 days and the same convention speech over and over.

Arden   September 10th, 2008 1:38 pm ET

You can call it a wolfpack if you choose to but the truth is Sarah Palin was chosen for one purpose and one purpose only; to help John McCain win. To hell with the country. At this point it doesn't matter what Barack or Joe say the GOP will jump on it and trash the Dem. ticket. Sarah Palin was never vetted properly. She keeps giving the same old speech and John McCain is still hiding behind her lipstick. How pathetic is this picture. Keep on truckin Barack and Joe. Do what you have to do. If we don't elect Barack President, Hillary will probably run for President in 2012 with the USA in a depression and world war III. Hillary, you and Bill need to get out there and get Barack elected. The BBC reported yesterday that the International World wants Barack for President . They hate John McCain and Sara Palin is a joke.

change the reporting   September 10th, 2008 1:38 pm ET

Sarah palin has so many problems since the pick was announced. So the real question surrounding this woman is " Is she qualified"?. That point has been forgotten. This governor may be a great gov. but it is very obvious to most of america, she is not qualified. Since when can the most powerful country in the world be put into the hands of someone that been on the national seen for all of 2 months? Barack obama recieved 18 million votes to support where he is. It doesnt matter what someone has accomplished , I would want to know about them publicly for alot more then 2 months. THATS THE QUESTION SOME OF THESE SO CALLED MEDIA ORGANIZATIONS SHOULD BE ASKING. Please post this CNN.

Ring...America's Calling   September 10th, 2008 1:38 pm ET

Another Shiny Metal Object:

This shiny metal to keep Dems from focusing on the issues will not work. What happens when McSame sends his mascot back home? Will she be attacked by the big bad media? Well let's throw some fairy dust in the air to keep the media from talking to her. Oh, I know let's call them a wolf pack attacking Sarah. That way, she won't have to face the music until we finish educating her.

This trick won't work either, she has been on the national scene for 12 days now, and that's 12 days too many. You're saying this woman who hasn't said one word to the press should be our VP? She may be your queen, but she's not ours.

I have a lesson for Queen Sarah. The country you want to lead is AMERICA, not CHINA.

Chris, Denver CO   September 10th, 2008 1:38 pm ET

McCain Palin have nothing but lies and smears to run on, nothing but re-packaged failed policies to offer, and now they are complaining about the media? The media alone are responsible for creating the Maverick McCain and Reformer Palin myths in the first place. They should be thanking the media.

IAMWMD   September 10th, 2008 1:38 pm ET

Update for Carl Rove and the repug pigs, cronies and even the sows with lipstick. Obama has a 40 point lead in the electorate college. So, you can have the victory in the soap opera context that you're trying to turn this race into. We'll stick with winning the the electorial college.

American Ariman   September 10th, 2008 1:37 pm ET

Obama did this to himself. He is the one that said he would run a different campaign. He is the one that claimed to get rid of old school Washington politics. Then he is the one that went against all of that and started lashing out personal attacks to get his name back on television.

Obama, you are no leader. You are a puppet of the Democratic National Committee. YOU do not need to be our Commander in Chief, and you probably don't even need to be a Senator in our Great Nation. You know nothing of Country First. You only know how to promote yourself. You are selfish, self-centered, and you are going DOWN!

Country First.

McBush and the Repubs are terrible! Palin is against stem cell research, says Iraq war was God's wish. She also does not believe mankind activities cause global warming. She wants to force her 18 Century mentality on woman's right to choose even in cases of incest and rape. ENOUGH is ENOUGH!

Remember the election in 2006? A little over one year ago:

1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high;
2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon;
3) The unemployment rate was 4.5%.

Since voting in a Democratic Congress in 2006 we have seen:

1) Consumer confidence plummet;
2) The cost of regular gasoline soar to over $3.95 a gallon;
3) Unemployment is up to 5.5% (a 25% increase);
4) American households have seen $2.7 trillion in equity value evaporate
(stock and mutual fund losses);
5) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $1.5 trillion dollars;
6) 3% of American homes are in foreclosure.

Remember it’s Congress that makes law not the President. He has to work with what’s handed to him.

Why doesn't she just get her big ol' gun and hunt the wolfpack instead of hiding in John McCain's cabin? Probably because she has no bullets (aka substance, ideas, experience, change). She is another empty suit and the McCain camp knows it, otherwise they'd let her talk to the media.

Obama/Biden supporters – I see that we have 10 to 1 advantage versus Palin/McCain supporters here on CNN blogs! Clearly, majority of Palin/McCain supporters either don't have anything smart to say or simply can't think at all! Well, what else do you expect from people who elected Bush in 2000 and 2004?! Just like their new leader – Sarah Palin – they are afraid to say something stupid. She reminds me Bush – totally clueless, have no ideas of her own and can only repeat the same statements over and over again that somebody else has written for her. She is just another republican puppet in hands of big oil and military corporations and reality is that they have enough power and even more importantly, enough stupid people (as elections in 2000 and 2004 have proven) that will listen to them. Can we still win in November? Based on recent state by state polling data, we are winning majority of electoral votes! But, Obama/Biden supporters in the swing states (OH, FL, VA, CO, NV, and NC) have to work really hard in their local communities to make our common dream a reality!

Yes We Can!

Deb, Allentown, PA   September 10th, 2008 1:36 pm ET

McCain had some semblance of integrity even as little as 4 years ago.

However, his decision to sell his soul to the devil, in the person of Karl Rove, in order to win this campaign has reduced him to but a crumbling shell of what he used to be. He is now a dishonorable, lying, pitiful man.

Los   September 10th, 2008 1:36 pm ET

If they actually start saying something beyond the same identical platitudes and soundbites they've been regurgitating for weeks, now THAT would be news.

susie   September 10th, 2008 1:36 pm ET

Obama never used the "pig" comment before, until Palin brought it up. I think he was referring to Palin. After a debate with Hillary and did a speech where he gave a rude gesture while talking about Hillary. Obama talks about "typical white women", calls a reporter "sweetie". Obama is not innocent on any of these comments.

Ads   September 10th, 2008 1:36 pm ET

I doubt very seriously that any ad is going to make someone's mind up as to who they will vote for. I don't think this is a campaign about food service and if it was even that I would take a commercial break and leave the room. We do not listen to commercials. They do not control our household. That is one problem with this country. Too many non sense commercials. So commercials are a waste of time and money. We ll pay for this in the long run.

Peter Ramsay   September 10th, 2008 1:36 pm ET

If the Republican Party would publicly vet this person as McCain, Obama and Biden have, there would be no problems. Instead the press has to look under every rock to find the truth. Usually the Republicans can pick the rocks to turn over. This time they seem to want the truth to come out and hurt their own ticket.

Maybe that is the plan – nominate her, keep her from the press, find out the skeletons in the closet hurt the ticket, dispose of her and tell the public "Well, we tried…" Our new VP candidate will be?????

Piggy McPiggerson   September 10th, 2008 1:35 pm ET

This is the direct context of Obama's comments, judge for yourself if he was refering to Palin.

"John McCain says he's about change too, and so I guess his whole
angle is, 'Watch out George Bush – except for economic policy, health
care policy, tax policy, education policy, foreign policy and Karl
Rove-style politics – we're really gonna shake things up in
Washington,'" Obama said.

"That's not change. That's just calling something the same thing
something different. You know you can put lipstick on a pig, but it's
still a pig. You know you can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper
called change, it's still going to stink after eight years. We've had
enough of the same old thing."

republicans hate america   September 10th, 2008 1:35 pm ET

Kaching   September 10th, 2008 1:35 pm ET

What absolute hogwash. The McCain campaign's strategy is to accuse Obama of negative campaigning. Most Americans hate negative campaigning but it changes their votes. Four years ago, I asked a friend what she thought of the campaign. She said, "I can't stand all the negative advertising! Why can't they just tell us what they will do to make America a better country." When asked who she was going to vote for, she said, "I was going to vote for Kerry, but he is such a flip-flopper and he lied about his Viet Nam experience, so now I'm not sure…."

McCain's campaign is saying, "Don't vote for Obama. He's a negative campaigner, and he's trying to hurt a woman."

A new level of sleaze.

Tired of W, OH   September 10th, 2008 1:35 pm ET

So is she a pitbull, or a poodle? McCain knew the media and democrats would look into her past when he nominated an unknown for VP. The dems wouldn't be doing their jobs, otherwise. Heck, the only thing anyone knows about Palin is that she eats mooseburgers, wears lipstick, and is an habitual liar.

And if anyone has been misleading in this election, it's McCain/Palin. Factcheck verifies it btw.

I agree with Hillary: no way, no how, no McCain-Palin

The McCain campaign is worried that the American people are beginning to find out the TRUTH abouth Sarah Palin. What is so sad about all this, is that he USE A WOMAN TO DRUM UP VOTES, he did not vet this woman, he just used her for his polital ambitions.

Looks like someone needs to hunt Palin. No one knows who this woman is or what she really stands for. All we have to go on is what we read in the paper, hear on the news or worse yet, what McCain tells us.

I am a woman and I am sick and tired of everybody walking on egg shells to avoid "hurting" Palin's feelings. She's suppose to be this rough and tough gun toting, moose killing maverick, well surely she should be able to defend herself when someone says something about her. She claims to know so much about politics and how to run a country, then she should also know Americans are gonna want to know who she is and what she represents.

And somebody please tell me why is McCain so afraid to let her campaign by herself. She's supposedly ready to lead the country but can't even stand up to an interview.

on Ebay"
2- allow for the context of the quote to be framed
3- complaints about Sexism and Media Bias haven't come directly from Palin. The campaign , yes
4- DON"T EXPECT GOP MEN & WOMEN TO STAND BY WHILE SOME OF THE MEDIA AND SOME DEMS TRY TO CANNIBALIZE ONE OF OUR OWN, like you did to your own Hillary Clinton

Barack Obama Is Our 44th president   September 10th, 2008 1:34 pm ET

Truly the republicans would rather remain engaged in ignorance than to address the real issues this country is facing. They have nothing better to offer the American people and the rest of the world but distractions, distortions, manipulations, bad judgment and policies, and no solutions to important issues.

McCain-Palin know they will NEVER win on the issues. They haven't addressed any of the issues thusfar, particularly health care and education. All they know and all we have heard from them are attacks and more attacks. They haven't any answers for the issues that concern the American people. They certainly can not explain one thing that they would do different from Bush. They can not explain the last 8 years of their bad and failed policies that has put our economy in a hole. So it's apparent, McCain-Palin-Bush stance is to stay on the personal attack track.

Certainly it is true – "a pig in lipstick is still a pig."

I truly hope the American people will get it right this time and vote for REAL change and that is Obama. It's definitely time for REAL change in Washington, it's time to elect Barack Obama for president !

The Obama-Biden team are wiser and stronger to solve the crucial problems that we have here and abroad !

I'm tired of these scare tactics and smear campaigns and I'm tired of the same GOP speech over and over. For the first time I'll be voting for a democrat. I hope people get over the hype of Palin. Tough Times Ahead   September 10th, 2008 1:34 pm ET

It would be great to see what the real social/educational/cultural divide is in this country. This election will surely tell how informed or how ignorant America is. If McCain wins, this country is truly on a backward direction. If Obama wins, then this country has hope and may very well turn itself around.

It would be really sad to see if majority of Americans will buy onto McCain's politics of fear and ignorance. If he wins, then you know that this country has more uneducated people than informed informed citizens.

Lets hope people come out to vote to insure that we as a country move forward, instead of revert back to the dark ages.

G. Penley   September 10th, 2008 1:33 pm ET

The non-stop attacks on Sarah Palin have served mostly to demonstrate fear and desperation in the Democratic ranks. Very transparent tactics, Mr. Obama. You're running scared, and it shows.

Mike   September 10th, 2008 1:33 pm ET

Juneau, not Anchorage, is the capital of Alaska. Maybe the DNC will try to distort that fact as well.

Obama Supporter 2   September 10th, 2008 1:33 pm ET

It's funny to hear McCain speak about change when Palin and McCain are saying the S-A-M-E speech almost two weeks later. Wow buy a new speech. Change that. One more day of this and we may believe that Palin is a StepFord Wife.

Theresa (Charleston, SC   September 10th, 2008 1:33 pm ET

I am so sick and tired of hearing about Sarah Palin she is not running for President. Who care how many children she has and who care if she have a baby with a handicap. Do the new media know how many people have children with handicap, she is not the first and will never be the last.

Justin in CA   September 10th, 2008 1:33 pm ET

And they the McCain campaign called America a nation of whiners, give me a break. Someone get McSame some cheese pronto.

NW Dem   September 10th, 2008 1:33 pm ET

I am just sick with my party. Obama first swift boated Hillary and now wants to do the same with Palin. It's disgusting the way he gets away with all of his campaigns tactics then cries foul when the same thing is done to him.

I'm either voting for Sarah or staying home this election!

Unhappy With CNN   September 10th, 2008 1:33 pm ET

It is obvious to me that most of the news outlets are hoping and wishing for a scandal. Even here on CNN it is clear. You know we American's are not stupid, and when the Debates come, and all people watch, they will learn what is going on…When Charles gives his interview….watch out!
So Religion…Hmmm lets bring that to light, and you will not be able to compare it to Rev. Wright….Say have you guys even ran the story on his affair, which in truth…really happend.

aaron   September 10th, 2008 1:33 pm ET

If papa mcain would ever let her say anything besides the same speech over and over and over again, maybe some of these questions about her past would get answered. If she's really ready let the press ask her some questions.

Jay from New Jersey   September 10th, 2008 1:33 pm ET

Actually, didn't the Democrats send a crack team of 24+ lawyers and mud-diggers to Anchorage last week? Oh yea, they are a pack of hungry wolves.

Tired of McCain/Palin   September 10th, 2008 1:33 pm ET

What's up with these ridiculous questions????
I can't tell you how glad I'll be when Jack Cafferty returns. He's the only one at CNN who actually "Gets it" !!

David in San Diego   September 10th, 2008 1:33 pm ET

Ms. Palin has yet to sit down with any reporter and actually answer any questions.

She has been paraded like a well-trained parrot, and she repeats the key [and often false] sound bites from her acceptance speech, written by former George W. Bush speech writers.

When she does finally answer questions from some reporter other than a Fox "News" , shill [apparently she has agreed to appear on ABC]perhaps these questions will be asked:

1. Are you the best qualified Republican to serve as Vice-President ?;

2. In your opinion, when was the Earth created ?

3. Do you personally believe in evolution ?

4. Do you believe that creationism should be tought in public schools as an alternative theory to evolution ?

5. What Orders, if any, have you ever issued as Commander in Chief of the Alaska National Guard ?

6. What substantive decisions have you made as Governor of Alaska that in any way involved relations with other countries ?

7.You supported the "Bridge to Nowhere" for several years, and accepted funds for that project. The State airplane was not sold on E Bay. The Governor's personal chef was removed from your buget, and transferred to another line item but continued to serve your family. When will you cease repeating these fictious sound bites in your memorized stump speeches ?

8. Are you the most qualified Republicsn to serve as President of the United States should President McCain die in office ?

Truth   September 10th, 2008 1:33 pm ET

Woman voter here:
Any kind of scrutiny that she receives comes with the territory of running for an office that will be in control of a nation.

Obama has been getting intense slams, accusations, and even slanders from the GOP/McCain for over a year now.

It's less than 60 days before the election and all of a sudden, Palin comes out of nowhere with a questionable record. Moreover, McCain says she's tough and ready to lead. So in a week, you're crying?

Let her go through the gauntlet, like so many politicians before her. Why are you trying so hard to shelter her, when she could potentially change or even destroy our lives?

Ruben from FL   September 10th, 2008 1:32 pm ET

Oh please… we are talking about a person that might be our next President! Are they going to show that ad in Russia if Putin decides to get though on Palin? This is McCain's fault for choosing someone that has not been vetted by anyone.

janine   September 10th, 2008 1:32 pm ET

Wow. The Republicans are ruthless. I guess it's only okay when they attack, lie, cheat, and steal. Well if Americans buy it, then they deserve everything coming to them.

Rev. Wright   September 10th, 2008 1:32 pm ET

It appears that the negative reaction to Barack Obama's "lipstick on a pig" comment is karmic justice for all his race card playing during this presidential campaign.

I guess you could say the pigs have come home……..to roost. :-)

mccain you silly old man, you just don't get it do you. we americans are suffering and could care less about you or palin, obama or biden. but what we do care about is which of you have the plans and ability to fix america for the better. we are paying 3/4 of a million per hour for loans for iraq and afghanistan, while most of us are having trouble paying for food, gas, mortgages, insurance, etc., john its not about palin, its about america.

debbiem   September 10th, 2008 1:32 pm ET

McCain's politics is deception and lies. He's trying to deceive the American people into believing he is going to give them what they want, which is change. Is this honor?

Sherri   September 10th, 2008 1:32 pm ET

Maybe if the McCain wasn't so busy attacking and then having to defend themselves, they might actually get around to talking about the issues. The debate on issues from the Republicans seems to be few and far between. Every once in a while they throw in the word "change" and hope the American public falls for it…

I really hope America is smarter than that, or frankly you deserve what you get…

CapoCastillo   September 10th, 2008 1:32 pm ET

Well maybe it's me, but couldn't Sarah palin shoot those wolves from a hellicopter as she likes and advocates doing?

When the GOP strategy is "Make our VP choice the bedrock of our campaign because our Presidential choice has nothing to really combat the Blue", it will become clear that these are not the pair to lead us into the next century.

No GOP plan for education, economy, Afghanistan/Pakistan… ape Obama's energy plan except just add drilling, and now trying to ape change. Let's open our eyes, and it's clear. Obama has the plan, McCain doesn't.

I am still asking for a reply to a statement Obama makes in his book, Audacity of Hope, where he says " I WILL STAND WITH THE MUSLIMS SHOULD THE POLITICAL WINDS SHIFT IN AN UGLY DIRECTION". What is he actually saying?

K.NIX   September 10th, 2008 1:31 pm ET

THIS IS ALSO DUMB.
WHO DIED AND NAMED REPUBLICANS THE KINGS OF POLITICS?
If she wants to be V.P. you have to vetted by the country.
It's insulting that repubs and the fellow lipstick pigs even put out such idiocracy

Jay Northern Cambria, PA   September 10th, 2008 1:31 pm ET

So was his pig with lipstick comment.

Cupper   September 10th, 2008 1:31 pm ET

McCain himself used the exact same phrase to describe Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's health care plan just last year. "I think they put some lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig," McCain said in October of 2007, describing Clinton's universal health care plan when she was running in the Democratic primary.

He also, in February 2007, used the phrase to describe conflict over a resolution on the Iraq War. "It gets down to whether you support what is being done in this new strategy or you don't," McCain said at the time. "You can put lipstick on a pig,[but] it's still a pig, in my view."

Why is the McCain campaign upset about their "change"mantra being called "lipstick on a pig?"

So it's OK for McCain to use the phrase "lipstick on a pig?" but not Obama?

It is obviously designed to distract the country from one big truth: the havoc that George Bush and the Republican Party have wrought, and that John McCain is committed to continuing.

Every second of this campaign not spent talking about the Republican Party’s record, and John McCain’s role in that record, is a victory for John McCain.

Ask yourself why we can't ask Palin any questions?

What is she hiding? Someone should demand that Rove make her available to answer a few questions.

Spewing lies with a stump speech day after day, with no one to challenge what you're saying or answering ANY questions seems VERY un-American.

This open dishonesty and pandering to the dumbest, most backward elements of this once great country makes me want to vomit.

There is no substance to John McCain or Palin and that's why they are wasting money on ads to "nowhere" because they are the "Bridge to Nowhere". John McCain aka Keating 5 is a $3.6 billion dollar theif and you the taxpayers paid. John McCain will say and do anything to avoid being investigated in the Silver Bank failure that yes, you the taxpayers are footing that bill also. Wake Up America.

Palin IS a LYING PIG who has tossed out her daughter and own grandson for political sale.

She is a weak two-faced LIAR.

John McCain picked her because she is JUST like him (a lying, fake, low-life who does not deserve to be called a POW).

Texas Sam   September 10th, 2008 1:31 pm ET

THE REPUBLICAN PARTY ARE RACISTS. CARL ROVE IS A RACIST THATS A FACT ON RECORD. THE RIGHT DOES NOT WANT TO SEE A MAN OR WOMAN OF COLOR IN THE WHITE HOUSE. Beth   September 10th, 2008 1:30 pm ET

I'm getting annoyed! Did McCain sell his soul to the devil? I feel like he picked Palin so he could finally get into office, not for "country first".

Can Palin even speak without a script? What is she going to do when she is president and has to actually talk to Putin sans script? Maybe she will tell him she is relate-able because she is a hockey mom—I'm sure that will win him over!

I'm pleased there is finally going to be an interview (there should have been one everyday since she has been selected…the American people have the right to question their future leaders), but what do you want to bet that she talks about her "son going to Iraq" in her ABC interview so she doesn't have to focus on real issues) . There are thousands of sons and daughters in Iraq, that does not qualify you to be president. AND I thought that children choices had nothing to do with Palin (after all, her daughter's pregnancy is NO reflection on Palin–right?), so why should the accomplishments of her kids be any reflection on Palin? That is a total double-standard.
If she says one word about this in her interview with ABC's Gibson I am going to be upset! She should not use her son as a way to divert from real issues.

Palin–what is your platform? Do you agree 100% with McCain's platform? What are you going to do as vice president? Healthcare, Economy?????? Who are you? Start talking to us please….

MS   September 10th, 2008 1:30 pm ET

Gov. Palin should admit her lie about bridge to nowhere to prove herself she can be a Maverick. She does not seem to have honesty to admit and correct her remarks on her campaign trail for a week. More importantly, so does Sen. McCain. Lies about Iraq war by GOP white house has lead us the current situation with bad economy and high unemployment rate.
McCain/Palin's lack of courage to confront their lie is actually a living-proof that "they are more the same".

Greg Rodgers   September 10th, 2008 1:30 pm ET

GOP…your tactics are about to blow up in your face.

Sarah and Johnny boy cannot continue to hide behind smear tactics and lies.

The DEMS are just as fed up with your ridiculous politics as the good people of this country.

Mark my words….

For all of the lies and deceit…you will eat your words.

Stop playing us as idiots. After the glitz and glam fades the real issues are what matters.

Issues like healthcare, education and jobs.

Also issues like why is your VP under investigation in her state, how is it that she accepted the PORK for the bridge but is supposed to be against pork, why did she pay herself a per diem to live in her home.

Lets not forget, McCain is running for President not Sarah.
The guy that would rather win a WAR then to do what right for the people. Country first right Johnny? The real fight is in Afganistan.
John, the man that left his cripple wife for his trophy. Yeah…a man of honor!

And Sexist? Aren't you just USING this woman to get your MAN into office.

We need change. PEOPLE change your way of thinking and open up your mind.

This is so sad. I, as a woman, am so disgusted. Why doesn't John McCain talk about his education policy instead? well maybe he doesn't have one. I think McCain is exploiting and using Sarah Palin's gender to win elections – she and all self respecting women should be appalled at this theatrics.

Let's rebuild this country   September 10th, 2008 1:30 pm ET

Thanks Obama for your Inspiration

Canadian POV   September 10th, 2008 1:30 pm ET

Hilary Rosen put it best on CNN last night when she put forward the example of 911 (a GOP favorite thing to exploit). She reminded viewers that as the attacks were unfolding, the President was not in the White House and in those tense moments, the power was with the VP as to whether or not to shoot down US commerical airplanes. Simply put, if another similar situation were to occur, would Americans be comfortable with Palin in that role? It is that simple. This is not a high school popularity contest but rather an important election for the entire world. I couldn't believe it when I heard the GOP saying that this election is not about issues but about personality — surely that can't be so for the millions of Americans who have seen their quality of life deteriorate in the last eight years.

AH   September 10th, 2008 1:30 pm ET

Tammy - KCMO   September 10th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

This ad is outrageous but I guess not anymore so than any of the other lies the Republicans have spewed.
If the public falls for this than we're more stupid than I thought we were. Just another way for the Republicans to keep from discussing actual issues.

SAT   September 10th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

The Republicans created this media frenzy. The world doesn't know much about Gov. Palin and are clamoring for answers. CNN has a reporter airing broadcasts from Alaska. That doesn't have anything do with the Democractic Party.

Why not just arrange a series of appearances such as Meet the Press, Wolf's show, etc? Next, let her go on The View, Ellen, etc. Then, everyone can hear from her directly.

The problem is aside from the RNC Convention we don't know much about her. I've listened to a few excerpts from the campaign trail. She is primarily repeating her words from the Convention. I'd like to hear her on a show for an hour directly speak to all the rumors, speculations, etc. Until that happens, I think there will continue to be "new revelations" on a regular basis.

Recently, I received a You Tube type video addressing issues with her daughter. I don't know if any of that is true or not. I'd like to give her the benefit of the doubt. Since I don't know much about her, it is hard to do that.

Ed   September 10th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

A lot of tough talk and no solutions on any issue.
But…. the people love it so I think for McCain it was
a good pick, but for America and the rest of the world
it wil be a desaster.
Yesterday on this blog someone said, " in 2012 we wil have
a Palin/Clinton race". But I stil hope it wil be Baracks 2nd term!

Go Barack, this worls needs you!
With love from the Netherlands

What about healthcare, McCain? What about education? What about the economy? What about foreign policy? What about immigration, McCain?

ReverendZ   September 10th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

Didn't we have enough of the "wolf pack" ads in 2004?

MyCane/Pale-one can't seem to come up with any ideas that aren't stolen from somewhere else. How is it "change" if all you do is mock and steal, mock and steal?

gpenn FL   September 10th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

Pure politics. Mccain/Rove are trying to blunt any real scandel that comes up. This leads me to believe there really is something there if they are trying to preempt it with this ad.

Steve/ Houston,TX   September 10th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

Actually it is McCain's people being dropped into Alaska to start the actual VP vetting process. These republicans are so confused and backwards. Why would anyone in their right mind vote them back into office?

Mark N   September 10th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

Idiots. Last time I checked Anchorage was not the Alaskan capital.

rendezvous@yahoo.com   September 10th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

Sen. Obama… you need to chill.. take a deep breath.
Really, it is OK to trail…
And about swift boat stuff… spare us that story. It really does not have a value to hear swift boat stuff from swift talking folks..
Sit back and relax as you loose. Take your pick relaxing in PR or Hawaii…
Sarah Palin has done enough to convince me and win a vote for McCain

McCain/ Palin….. and am dead drop serious

Wow! McCain, you have lost any respect that I have for you. America deserves what it gets if Palin-McCain, oh, McCain-Palin are elected. Good luck America. You bring demise upon yourself.

I'm shocked. SHOCKED.   September 10th, 2008 1:28 pm ET

Wait…all these GOP clowns do is attack and lie, and now they want to cry and act like victims? Pathetic.

Rufus Paige   September 10th, 2008 1:28 pm ET

The press needs to check out Palin. Judge Judy was on the View and she is right. Palin is a nice looking person but dont nothing about her. She misleads people about e-bay, ear mark monies and can dish it out but her McCain cam can not take it. If she is a pit bull with lipstick then she should be able to take whatever comes her way. She took this V P position and nobody should let up on her. The American people can see she is only a pretty face because the real deal is that McCain will be the President and thats just wrong!!!! We we all vote and people will remember what we are going through and certainly McCain had a lot to do with it. He supported Bush 90% of the time. After 8 years of the mess that we are in we all know we need a change. Barack has always walk the talk and showed that he is concerned about the American people. Anybody that choses to do community service over getting a big lawyer 's job means a lot. Barack Obama is our next President to get us back on track. Those of you who vote for McCain are not feeling the pain of the economy we are in.

We just need some journalist to get her to answer some questions. No wolfpack needed-she would just fly around in her Ebay chopper and Maypalm all the wolves :)

Ex-Republican for Obama   September 10th, 2008 1:28 pm ET

Yet, this extremely clean, sparkling image of an American who loves all and has never done anything un-ethical, illegal or corrupt STILL refuses to MEET the press….

If she is so clean, then why is she hiding behind a tree and having ads put out rather then discussing them with the media herself?

If she can't defend herself in front of others openly, then how the heck can she EVER be a good VP….she can't, she is a loser with no ability to defend her record when confronted face to face. All she has is lies spoken unchallenged to a camera.

Pathetic excuse of an american, as a person she should be ashamed of herself.

Jozee   September 10th, 2008 1:28 pm ET

Sarah Palin is a straw soldier but the Dems get painted as sexist, and any other derrogative word when they defend their policies. The lastest one being the "lipstick on a pig" statement. I was at the event yesterday when Sen. Obama uttered these remarks and they were in no way directed at Ms. Palin.

As a matter of a fact, Barack would not allow the hugely anti-Palin/McCain crowd to boo either of these candidates but redirected the attention back on the issues. isn't that what we are voting on in the first place? Countless times Obama has defended his opponents and have shown them political courtesies that they have not shown to him. I find it infuriating that Palin can say anything about Obama and Biden and the crowd goes wild but Team Obama cannot even contrast the huge differences in the campaigns without getting lambasted by both the media and the Palin campaign.

I know that CNN won't post this because they are the primary culprits of biased news coverage deferential to Palin. FOX NOISE and CNN are practically identical in their political slant. It is sickening.

OBAMA/BIDEN 08/12

TJ   September 10th, 2008 1:28 pm ET

Oh no, here comes the "holier than thou" attitude by the republicans. If people in this country are foolish enough to give the republican machine another go around, we don't deserve to have anything better than the last 8 years. She might not be from Washington, but didn't we already give a sharpshooting governor a chance. Look where that got us. Sarah Palin, give it up. You are not anything like Hillary Clinton. You are not anything like the majority of the governors and senators in this country. You have little to no experience do anything of importance. Maverick? please ….There are many women in the work force who are more qualified than you for this job. Stop being a fraud SARAH!

Cynthia   September 10th, 2008 1:28 pm ET

The people are going to have to tell the McCain people that ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. We want to hear about the issues and not the BS that they keep putting out. They don't realize what a turnoff this is to some voters, you have your stance Democrats & Republicans – what they are going to split is the middle.

I am REALLY disappointed in Sen. McCain. I thought he was better than that. IT'S a shame that he is willing to do anything to win and ALL of the idiots in his campaign. What about all of those people who are losing their homes and their jobs? What about the troops still on the battlefield? How we spend so much time talking about a woman who can't even take care of business in her own home. We better wake up and soon!!!!!! May God have mercy on us if these two people win the White House. God have mercy.

Nicole In NE   September 10th, 2008 1:28 pm ET

So….you put your VP up there on a pedestal, not to be investigated by the media – the same as McCain and Obama have been about every single detail of their lives, she is your ATTACK dog, but can't be investigated at all? I mean, come on.

She gets special treatment because she's a woman? I'd rather have equal rights – thank you very much!

She wants to run with the top dogs – act like one!

Ken   September 10th, 2008 1:28 pm ET

I can believe that Obama is like any other politician, and will do anything and say anything to win this election, which I am sure that Obama WILL NOT win against McCain/Palin.

I can believe that it probably is true about the Democrats (Obama included) did indeed drop in some 30 people to dig up dirt on Palin.

Obama might have led off to be a different kind of politician, but he sure did a bunch of flip-flops and now is acting as if he is the second coming!

WAKE UP AMERICA!

Gloria   September 10th, 2008 1:28 pm ET

american flag pin

how   September 10th, 2008 1:28 pm ET

Let's be REAL, this is a person WHOM think they can run for an important position that continued to run away from the media, and the repubs camp was proud saying "OFF LIMITS". We haven't heard any sermon from her _astor, b_ _ _ fath_ _ and his _ _space page was a show of the company she does keep, and on, and on, and on. IF this is true, I do wish them LUCK, because…Dick & Sharon's LA Progressive NEWS:
Alaskans Speak (In A Frightened Whisper): One example….They’re all rich because they do private sweetheart deals with the oil company___. Like most other people interviewed, he didn’t want his name used out of fear of retribution. McCain and Palin…what are they going to do when another Country say something bad about her, what are they going to do when she NEEDS to speak with other Country leaders to keep us safe, WHINE and TELL them she is OFF limits? THIS IS RIDICALUS!!!!!!!!

Sabreen60   September 10th, 2008 1:28 pm ET

Well maybe Obama should make an ad showing that footage of people shooting wolves from airplanes. The only state in the union to allow this barbaric practice. The ad should also say that the conservationists say that the wolves are NOT having a negative impact on the moose and caribou herds.

The Lady   September 10th, 2008 1:28 pm ET

McCain/Palin strange both of your names have the letters "ain" like "pain". Anyway can you stay on the issues attacking Palin is part of the polictical game, we ain't changing things just because whe is a woman. You say the remarks are completely false then prove it .

Spencer from VA   September 10th, 2008 1:27 pm ET

John McCain doesn't even deserve to have me call him a senator right now. I'm not republican, but watching him through this campaign, he's acting like a 2 year old. he can't talk about issues so he attacks and makes false tv ads. Same old Washington politics.

OBAMA/BIDEN 08

Mike NYC   September 10th, 2008 1:27 pm ET

Um guess what McCain. There are probably 10 x's more journalists trying to do the same thing. The ones that you are getting your "reliable" information from.

At least someone is trying find out the details about her. You obviously didnt when you selected her – and you are not allowing the American Public the ability to learn more about her by questioning her capabilities directly.

There are only 8 weeks left in the campaign and the only thing this country knows about your VP running mate is a speech. Dont you think they deserve more than that?

Why does no one question McCain and his unopenness to let the people learn about the potential next VP?

anonymous   September 10th, 2008 1:27 pm ET

Obama is a dirty politician. He will do anything………..ANYTHING…….to win this election. His true self is now being revealed.
Principles – down the drain
Change – down the drain
Trustworthiness – down the drain.

Shame on Obama…….

Hillary is a more principled individual who has nothing to prove to herself or anyone else just like Mccain because they have been there, done it…………..so whatever they promise is more believable.
If one is close to our Lord and respects His teachings, one will not resort to this game. Obama is a Christian, so he says but there is no Christian values in his bones.

This election is the joke of the world and the media's complicity in it is pathetic. Like the media's support for the illegal invasion of Iraq your desire to fuel a campaign devoid of policy and integrity will come back to haunt you should these duo become elected.

This isn't suprising—both parties do it.

The Democrats just had to do a "surge to Alaska" because she's new to the Washington political scene. There's already plenty out there on McCain, Obama, and Biden—she's the new kid on the block.

Truthfully-she seems better equipped and dedicated to really doing what she says once elected than any of the above.

It's obvious the McCain people can't or won't discuss real issues so they have to divert the campaign with lies and mud slinging.

It's disgusting and I think the American people are smarter than this.

Obama supporter and a woman   September 10th, 2008 1:26 pm ET

The republicans are once again true to form. No plan for the country, no talk of the issues, no, no, no. Just the same ole politics from the same ole folks, John McCain declared to be different, Just another lie.
He's no different. He'll do anything and say anything to get people to vote for him."I'd rather lose an election, than lose a war" , yeah right. Just another LIE! At some point , we have to tell the Republican Party and John McCain , we don't want or need this and we aren't goin to accept this crap any more. we need to say it with our vote! GO OBAMA/BIDEN

Whats the problem. I thought Palin liked shooting Wolves from helicopters? In an ABC online article today. Palin says that she did not fire the Wasilla Librarian for refusing to ban the book 'Pastor, I am Gay'. Palin says she fired the Librarian for not being ' Loyal'. Palin said that she then fired all of the department heads in the tiny town!
What a power crazed Pig with Lipstick !

First of all…"Alaskan capital of Anchorage"? You mean, Juneau, correct?

Lastly, this is a fairly crafty ad, but to be expected. The Dems' drop in the polls suggests that there truly are thousands of folks in the USA that still believe in old-school, hard-right Conservatism and respect that there is a chance that somebody outside of the usual Washington inside might become VP…both points contained so far within Palin. I would have to say that there probably is at least some truth to this ad.

Rebecca   September 10th, 2008 1:25 pm ET

Despite the McCain camps lies about Obama's accomplishment he has a many in a short period of time. McCain and Palin are the biggest HYPOCRITES I've ever seen. The Republicans should be ashamed of them but instead stick up for their lies and just repeat them.

Some of Senator Obama's accomplishments in the Illinois Senate:

Introduced legislation reforming ethics and health care laws.
Sponsored a law increasing tax credits for low-income workers, negotiated welfare reform, and promoted increased subsidies for childcare.
Obama supported Republican Governor Ryan's payday loan regulations and predatory mortgage lending regulations aimed at averting home foreclosures
Sponsored a bill to monitor racial profiling.
Voted on over 3000 bills. Voting present is a common practice in the Illinois Senate if you want to keep the bill alive to make some corrections. He only voted present less than 1% of the time.

US Senate:
Introduced "Lugar–Obama," which expanded the Nunn–Lugar cooperative threat reduction concept to conventional weapons
Co sponsored the "Coburn–Obama Transparency Act," which authorized the a web portal to make congress spending public information.
Introduced follow-up legislation: Strengthening Transparency and Accountability in Federal Spending Act of 2008.
Sponsored legislation requiring nuclear plant owners to notify state and local authorities of radioactive leaks.
Co-sponsored the Honest Leadership and Open Government Act, which was signed into law in September 2007.
Introduced the Iraq War De-Escalation Act of 2007.
Sponsored the "Iran Sanctions Enabling Act"
Co-sponsored legislation to reduce risks of nuclear terrorism.
Sponsored an amendment to provide one year of job protection for family members caring for soldiers with combat-related injuries.

These are just some of Obama’s accomplishments in his short career. Where are the Fact Checks and Snopes on these Republican smears and false rumors which are coming directly from the McCain campaign itself?

Tim   September 10th, 2008 1:25 pm ET

At what point are the Republican spin makers going to realize that the smear tactics are going to drive away many of us (Republicans too). I want to see answers from McCain on what he is planing to do, not how much his underlings can smear the opposition.

pa.joe   September 10th, 2008 1:25 pm ET

Palin advocates hunting wolves from airplanes and helicopters. Chasing them down until they collapse from exhaustion then they are shot from the air or at close range. At least the Dems are hunting her from the ground. More fair that way.

Bob Indianapolis, IN   September 10th, 2008 1:24 pm ET

I just don't get the American people… This is getting more and more ridiculous, these McCain/Palin lies. All they know how to do is pour lies on Obama and they get away with it. The American people will be sadly unfortunate if these two get into office. Go Obama/Biden '08!!!

Real Real Change   September 10th, 2008 1:24 pm ET

And this would have what to do with the war, the economy, energy policy, New Orleans, the environment, education, the Supreme Court, etc etc etc????????????

McCain = Politics
Obama = Issues

James   September 10th, 2008 1:23 pm ET

Ok this is getting ridiculous. Just like at the convention the ads the repukes are running are negative and without substance. Abby is right, if the stupids dictate this election by falling into the pit of deceivery, they deserve what they get.

Kelly   September 10th, 2008 1:23 pm ET

Sad, ugly, and stupid.

But then again, who is surprised at this point.

R.I.P. Honorable John McCain circa 2000

Hello Rovian sleazeball Bush III & his pitbull

Jerry in Boston   September 10th, 2008 1:23 pm ET

The McCain campaign has not one shred of decency.

When they realized that joining Obama in denouncing ad-hominem politics wasn't a winning formula, they dropped it like a hot potato. Now they are warmly embracing the relentless Rovian lie factory like an old friend.

Stick with what you know I guess.

Stephen, NYC   September 10th, 2008 1:23 pm ET

And as for McCain/Palin policies…. Still nothing.

Amy   September 10th, 2008 1:23 pm ET

Love it, now just put names on the wolves like "Iran" "Russia" and the like and she'll know what it is like to live in the real world!

LT for Obama   September 10th, 2008 1:23 pm ET

First of all, Obama nor his campaign have said anything to smear this woman, they have been unbearably kind where she is concerned.

If they have a problem, take it up with the media and us bloggers. We are the ones who are digging up the facts and some are spreading false rumors.

As for hunting wolves, she should know, doesn't she hunt wolves from aircraft and condone pulling wolf cubs from their dens and having them shot? The answer is YES.

voter   September 10th, 2008 1:23 pm ET

McCain you are slime. If you care so much about women's rights, then why did you vote aganist equal pay for women, women rights to choose and end discrimination in the workplace for women. Your rheortic does not match with your record. get real.

Obama/Biden 08   September 10th, 2008 1:23 pm ET

Grow up McCain this isnt KINDERGARDEN anymore protecting the little girlfriend… If this is the politics your wanting to bring to the White House you can just forget it.

Geesh I get more DRAMA out of McCain/Palin speeches and Cries of pity than I do my whole day of soap operas!!!

Sara   September 10th, 2008 1:23 pm ET

They should've ended the ad with Palin aerial hunting the wolves, it would've been the only truth in their entire ad campaign.

JJ   September 10th, 2008 1:23 pm ET

How low can you go??? Pathetic!

Ed from PA   September 10th, 2008 1:23 pm ET

Funny that this comes out when Obama accuses the McCain campaign of swift boat politics… this ad is exhibit A.

Kathy   September 10th, 2008 1:22 pm ET

McCain does nothing but lie, and here are some:
“Because I know that as successful as I believe we will be, and I believe that the success will be fairly easy, we will still lose some American young men or women.” [CNN, 9/24/02]

“We’re not going to get into house-to-house fighting in Baghdad. We may have to take out buildings, but we’re not going to have a bloodletting of trading American bodies for Iraqi bodies.” [CNN, 9/29/02]

“But the point is that, one, we will win this conflict. We will win it easily.” [MSNBC, 1/22/03]

And if he wants to change Washington, then he better get rid of the lobbyist:
Seven top McCain officials were lobbyists, though the campaign stresses that none is currently registered to lobby Congress:
• One: Campaign manager Rick Davis is a major telecommunications lobbyist.
• Two: Senior foreign policy adviser Randy Scheunemann recently faced scrutiny over his foreign lobbying on behalf of the Republic of Georgia, which has been embroiled in a military conflict with Russia.
• Three: Senior adviser Charlie Black was a foreign lobbyist for dictators in Zaire and Angola in the 1980s, fodder for the liberal group MoveOn.org.
• Four: Frank Donatelli, the Republican National Committee's liaison to the McCain campaign, has had clients including Exxon Mobil.
• Five: Economic adviser Nancy Pfotenhauer has lobbied for corporate giants like Koch Industries.
• The final two lobbyists are McCain's congressional liaison, John Green, and national finance Co-chairman Wayne Berman. They both lobbied for Fannie Mae, the troubled mortgage giant.

ENUF SAID!!!!!

faye, NV   September 10th, 2008 1:22 pm ET

What are the Rep afraid of, this Palin/McCain are running on old Bush Ideas and will farther this USA into a downward spin.

Their tatics are to destroy two men who believe in the better for this country. People should look closely at Palin and her back and forth on issues. Thinking that God is causing the war, etc.

Melvin   September 10th, 2008 1:22 pm ET

And to think that the party of morals are the repubs. Thats a bunch of bull.

s   September 10th, 2008 1:22 pm ET

When are the Rebublicans going to start talking seriously about the issues at hand, and not just slinging mud and more mud? They seem like little kids yelling insults at others on the playground.

Airforce1   September 10th, 2008 1:22 pm ET

Come McPlain you and your Bride to No Where Just Don't Get It.

proud army and navy mom   September 10th, 2008 1:22 pm ET

Mccain is a disgusting liar who uses fear and covert racism as a campaign tool.

ENOUGH….that should be our new campaign slogan Obama/Biden

Independent Dave, Iowa   September 10th, 2008 1:22 pm ET

Do you hear that whirling noise? It's our Founding Fathers spinning in their graves.

The Vice Presidential candidate is more popular than the running mate. Mainly because she's attractive and wears stylish eyeware!

What a SHAM!

This election will go down in the history books as a mockery of democracy.

John   September 10th, 2008 1:22 pm ET

I guess the hundreds of lawyers reportedly airdropped by the Obama campaign to "dig dirt" piggy-backed on the McCain lawyers dropped to clear the VP nominees scandal up?

ISSUES   September 10th, 2008 1:22 pm ET

WHY IS IT THE REPUBLICANS CAN NEVER TALK ABOUT THE ISSUES, THEY'D RATHER TALK ABOUT ARUGULA, ELISTIST, SEXIST, PATRIOTISM … PEOPLE, PLEASE DON'T FALL FOR THIS AGAIN!

Frank   September 10th, 2008 1:22 pm ET

Seriously, the republicans are paranoid … they are the dirt slingers and blame others for not joining them when they sit in their own crap. McCain lost his way and his honor. Sad for such an old man. He is selling himself to the Rovians in an effort to be entered into the history books.

Becky   September 10th, 2008 1:22 pm ET

"wolfpack hunting Palin"

Not best choice of words, seeing how it is Palin who supports Aerial Wolf Hunting… Unless you're just trying to be funny.

Spencer from VA   September 10th, 2008 1:22 pm ET

Since Dems are suppose to be a wolf pack, is that McCains way of stating is going to send rifle toting, shoot em up Sara after us? What a joke. Let her do a press conference or campaign by herself without a piece of paper or teleprompter in front of her. How about she be a guest on the Bill Maher show.

OBAMA/BIDEN 08

Susan   September 10th, 2008 1:22 pm ET

Nothing new.
Its going on from last 8 years when Karl Rove took the GOP campaign.
McCain is also getting tips from him.

I have lost all hopes now.

Memnoch   September 10th, 2008 1:21 pm ET

Hopefully the People recognize Rove's apprentice's smear tactics. They will try to paint Obama as the bad guy, despite him taking the high road on Palin and her family. Obama has not said made one personal attack on Palin. When Palin and McCain start telling the truth, maybe I'll start caring what I have to say.

How you campaign is how you will govern.

American   September 10th, 2008 1:21 pm ET

I know Hillary Rodham Clinton…I worked with her….and you Gov. Palin are no Hillary Clinton.

"No Way…No How….No McCain…No Palin".

Ken, LA California   September 10th, 2008 1:21 pm ET

Pig with lipstick is still a pig, I guess that makes republican prty a pigstyle

Lisa   September 10th, 2008 1:21 pm ET

The ad is stupid. They are stupid and I am sick of them.

Lisa

J. Brown   September 10th, 2008 1:21 pm ET

OMG fake outrage! How dare people question palin's political history! Its so sexist to say something negative about a political opponent!

The fact that anybody is taking this seriously does not say anything positive about our population. What transparent tactics.

Paul from NYC   September 10th, 2008 1:21 pm ET

The attacks have been called 'completely false', but most of them aren't.

She did not say 'thanks, but no thanks' to the bridge to nowhere, she kept the money.

She did not sell a plane on E-Bay for a profit, she sold a plane offline for a loss.

John   September 10th, 2008 1:21 pm ET

Talk about issues please! How will this affect healthcare, education, jobs? Yeah, you get it!

Obama-Biden-08

Dennis   September 10th, 2008 1:21 pm ET

"Obama's politics of hope? Empty words."

At least Obama has a policy. McCain and Palin just throw charges of sexism against anyone that has the "audacity" to inquire as to her qualifications.

Idependent   September 10th, 2008 1:21 pm ET

You guy's HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO SUBSTANCE at all! Your acts are shamefull and should stop. McCain WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO FOR AMERICA AND HOW ARE YOU GOING TO DO IT? That is what matter's. Who care's about Palin…WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?

Waiting your answer!!!!!! That's TRUTH…

B   September 10th, 2008 1:21 pm ET

And when Palin says Obama will raise your taxes while speaking to a couple a couple 1000 people is not a lie??????????

There is no way ALL of them make more than $250,000 each year aka 5% of US population!

Sara   September 10th, 2008 1:21 pm ET

Liberals are so nervous, because of her taking center stage. They will make up any lie.

CNN what are you thinking?   September 10th, 2008 1:21 pm ET

The economy is disintegrating, people!!!!
Anyone notice??? This is not 'political coverage,' this is noise!!!!

D.T., Hartford, CT   September 10th, 2008 1:21 pm ET

Alaskan capital is Juneau not Anchorage

Joe in StL   September 10th, 2008 1:21 pm ET

This is entirely transparent. This was the plan all along.

McCain picked Palin so he could use her as a prop to say that the Dems are picking on her, regardless of what they say, who said it, the context, and so on.

Now, what does that say about McCain's opinion of women and of the electorate in general?

I for one see right through it and will not vote for someone who thinks I am so stupid that I would fall for this. Join me in rejecting these tactics and the politicians who employ them.

alpha   September 10th, 2008 1:21 pm ET

The McCain campaign said the ad would be airing in “key states,” although it did not say where, or how extensive the buy would be.

Key state mcshame!
The polls is just a fraction of those interviewed.
Obama/Biden will trash u!

ISSUES!!!   September 10th, 2008 1:20 pm ET

Is this all the republican party has? What about the issues!! I'm tired of the lipstick, the freaking pigs, wolves etc. REPUBLICAN TALK ABOUT THE ISSUES. OBAMA HAS SAID WHAT HE WILL DO FOR AMERICAN AND ALL YOU CAN COME BACK WITH IS HE IS ATTACKING PALIN ABOUT FREAKING HUNTING!!

ISSUES
ISSUES
ISSUES
ISSUES

THE ABOVE IS WHAT THE REPUBLICANS ARE TRYING TO DISTRACT THE AMERICAN PUBLIC FROM!!! THEY HAVE NO PLAN FOR AMERICAN 90% OF THE TIME WITH BUSH!!

CHANGE RIGHT!!!

Abby   September 10th, 2008 1:20 pm ET

As Obama drops in the polls, he'll try to destroy her,”

he did not do a thing to her. A black man trying to destroy a white woman? LOL you are so predictable, hate mongers.

mae   September 10th, 2008 1:19 pm ET

obama is running scared now…….all i can say to mccain /palin keep up the good work …you have my vote

Don   September 10th, 2008 1:19 pm ET

sounds accurate to me. Obama feels he is a once in a lifetime politician and Palin also posing as a unique candidate is stealing his shine and you best believe he will do and say anything to change that.

ANAG LOS ANGELES, CA   September 10th, 2008 1:19 pm ET

The rebubs are so dirty.

USAF Staff Sergeant   September 10th, 2008 1:19 pm ET

Wait.. so this ad is basically saying:

"The Obama campaign is doing exactly what we have been doing for months, and we don't like it. So.. um.. Obama is a poopy head, don't vote for him!"

Oh NOW who's whining and crying.

GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN, McCAIN / PALIN!

John   September 10th, 2008 1:19 pm ET

mccain and palin are the biggest joke in the history of american elections, I have never seen such liars and distortions of truth since thelast rovian election by dubya and lord chenader. The GOP are scared because they know the real change is coming and soon they know they are going to be out of power. Yes we the people have made up our minds we are sitting back and waiting until 11/4, then you will see like the primaries the largest number of democrats in history come out and rip power away from the GOP and give it to Obama and Biden, where the power belongs with us. Where we can help the people. Get out your check books GOP ers its payback time. The middle clas is rising up and demanding that we the people are heard. Obama/ Biden, and Clinton will be there and alot of other brilliant democrats this is our time lets take back our country…

No Brain MCain/Empty Pantsuit Palin   September 10th, 2008 1:19 pm ET

Self-potrayal of the Christian (Repulsican) Party no doubt?

Rob   September 10th, 2008 1:19 pm ET

actually the attacks on her are the truth . She's can't even discuss issues–its all non-issue for the GOP….she repeats the same speech prepared for her .How can anyone believe anything they say.

Obama Supporter from FL   September 10th, 2008 1:19 pm ET

Oh please. This is so pathetic…

Abby   September 10th, 2008 1:19 pm ET

If this works, the American people deserve what they get. Good luck!

Abby   September 10th, 2008 1:18 pm ET

If this works, the American people deserve what they get. Good luck!

I guess there's always Canada :)

Rebecca   September 10th, 2008 1:18 pm ET

Linda K.   September 10th, 2008 1:18 pm ET

So now she's Little Red Riding Hood?

Eyes   September 10th, 2008 1:18 pm ET

McCain cares more about Palin. But he seems to be very unsure and uncomfortable with his choice. So he is projecting his own insecurities on the democrats.

We democrats are more comfortable about our choice of VP.

Niel   September 10th, 2008 1:18 pm ET

FOUR MORE YEARS. 8 AINT ENOUGH.
FOUR MORE YEARS. 8 AINT ENOUGH.

LS   September 10th, 2008 1:16 pm ET

CNN, this is way too important of an issue to just turn the other cheek so quickly?

How is the media so quickly to attack the comment on LIPSTICK, and fail to attack McCain on his decision to approve his disgusting ad??

McCain crossed the line with his ad yesterday. People I know are outraged and are sickened by his attempt to betray the protection of innocent children.

After this, what people in their Right-Mind would vote for McCain? You read that McCain supporters – what state-of-mind are you people in?

This election is not about only electing Obama, but MOST IMPORTANTLY – protecting our children from McCain. McCain was Very WRONG to use this topic for his DISTORTED advantage, Very WRONG.

Anyone who crosses this barrier doesn't deserve anything. And I hope this subject comes out in the debates and SLAPS MCCain right in the face.
