Gov. Palin waved at supporters who greeted her when she returned to Alaska Wednesday.

(CNN) - In the nearly two weeks since Sen. John McCain announced his vice presidential nominee to the world, the Internet rumors about Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin have been flying.

The McCain campaign is taking these seriously, and it's fighting back as well as rebutting charges in the mainstream media.

If she's so tough, why do they need to protect her?

chelle   September 11th, 2008 4:05 pm ET

Like Charlie Gibson is going to be allowed to ask her anything "off the cuff". It will be a planned interview...questions already vetted by the McCain campaign. The Palin lovers will continue to adore her, and the rest of us to think....she is a figurehead, nothing more. Not allowed to talk to anyone, not allowed to stick her foot in her mouth, or tell us what really happened with the librarian, her brother-in-law, his boss, the pipeline, the bridge, and on and on.....

Republican for Obama   September 11th, 2008 4:05 pm ET

This whole election is becoming a joke. Young people will forever think the political process is a joke. Just because people want to vote based on gender or bias towards another based on color.

People are willing to put our futures on the line over cultural warfare. Old people who won't vote based on prejudices are selling their childrens and grandchildrens lives to the devil himself.

The responsible choice is obama/Biden – it seems like they are the only one's talking about ISSUES. I could care less that Sarah is a hockey mom, or a woman. What can she do to for this country???…the answer is pretty much nothing. We already know what McCain is offering....more of the same!

Thanks but no thanks!!!!

THIS IMAGE IS PRETTY HARD TO HIDE   September 11th, 2008 4:05 pm ET

Republicans are certainly showing us plenty of the this traveling circus' "family values" they are alway harping on and want to use as an example for all to follow.

My gene pool is shallow, but it is deeper than this Clampett clan!

McCrypt was bashing Obama about celebrity and comparing him to Britney then the Republicans come out with Bristol.

Teenage pregancy because Sarah denies kids have sex and want "abstinence for all" and do not use any kind of contraception.

Forced wedding on two young people so the whole issue will be "scrubbed and sealed" for the rabid Right.

Husband that is on record as endangering the lives of others with his reckless(at least Obama's admitted drug use did not endanger anyone but his own health)

Palin was FOR the bridge to nowhere, BEFORE she was against, a lie she stated in her first public appearance.

Now, what was "just a legislative issue" on Saturday during her address, now requires legal counsel.

This bullseye just keeps getting bigger and bigger!

And to believe this is the best nominee McCrypt could find in all of the Republican party. Now there is a double dose of "good judgment" and putting the "Country First"

Really, you can surely come up with better snark than that.

as a Canadian I find your election process to be much too long and expensive for all. However looking on the bright side of things the
Repuclican lies are only re-inforcing the need to vote for all democrats.
To sit on their duffs thinking ther election is in the bag for Democrats would be a very serious and false sense of securty for them.
Today I wish I could be an American and vote for common sense and decency that I see only on the Obama/Biden ticket.
Don't sit back and relax just yet – the end of your fight and reward is too close at hand.

Pitbulls dont need protection, don't they do the protecting?

The media dropped the ball with this story. They should be pressing this issue more. If Obama or Biden declined speaking with the media because of the way a question was asked, the GOP would have annihilated them. Why is the media so afraid of the Republicans???? I want to see this woman HAMMERED!!! Just like everyone else has been for 19 FRIGGIN MONTHS! Why is this woman being protected??? She can handle a gun, she doesn't need any protection–until she has to apply lipstick. GIVE ME A BREAK!!! RIP HER APART TOO!

If her image needs protecting, yeah – the republicans are the ones to do it (lmao)! They can say they are protecting her from being accosted by the press, but if that is hard for her to take, she better run the other way from Washington because you can't protect someone from their past.

Sexist Obama   September 11th, 2008 4:04 pm ET

Obama and Axelrod dispalyed their ill-feelings for Women when they killed Hillary's efforts in primaries.

Obama will do so for Palin, and this time he will use Hillary as a tool.
This guy can do anything to get elected.

How desperate Obama is to get into the WH, with him will also enter Rev Wright's philosophy and Bill Aiter's ideology, thats' just shameful.

Deborah   September 11th, 2008 4:04 pm ET

The Liberal Press kept their Knowledge about Obama out of the press, which is why we didn't find out about Rev Wright until it was already too late for him to be "voted out" by the public.

Now they are doing their level best to get Obama elected by destroying a candidate before she is even introduced.

The LIES she is credited with are all "Made Up" and soon the American People will elect her VP and the VERY LIBERAL PRESS will be exposed for their criminal activity!

Y'know, I like the female mayor of Eugene just fine - but I sure as hell wouldn't want to see her as president, or even vice president. Eugene's population doesn't quite equal the population of Alaska, but it's a whole lot bigger than Wasilla, so my guess is that Eugene's mayor is actually a lot more qualified than this power-hungry, ego-fed wannabee. Still doesn't make her qualified for the highest office in the land - perhaps the world.

So if the McCain campaign wants to protect Mrs. Palin's image, why don't they let her SPEAK FOR HERSELF!!?? Instead, she is being kept from the media and is not answering any questions. I don't know about you my fellow Americans, but if somebody was interviewing for the 2nd most improtant job in the world, wouldn't you want to ask her some QUALIFYING QUESTIONS? I find it ABSURD that we are not talking about how ABSURD THIS IS!!!

The real question is why hasn't the McCain let Palin speak for herself?

Everyone under the sun in the republican party has spoken for Palin–except Palin. Why can't Palin defend her own record–after all, it's her record.

Debby   September 11th, 2008 4:03 pm ET

What are the Dems. so afraid of like they keep saying she was a small town mayor and only served as Governor for 2 years. What can they possibly find that hasn't come out already. Its a fishing expedition by the Obama campaign and where best than in Alaska to catch FRESH salmon.

Obama 08: White, 60 yr old female   September 11th, 2008 4:02 pm ET

The evangelists have been watching Palin for months now. and pushed her onto McCain. Palin's stance on issues changed a few months ago. Who really is behind Palin??

Time for her to clearly and without a script to talk to the American people about what she stands for.

I am looking forward to the ABC interview to see how Gibson avoids all of the issues and controversy. His "image" is on the line in the next two days: will he pander or will he do an objective job??

One question would be don't McCain and Palin wear American Flag pins???

Liberal Dem haters must really be tired by now. Does the hatred you have in your heart ever exhaust you? It's been months and months (or years) of attacks against McCain, Bush and Republicans in general, then you turned on one of your own, Hillary Clinton, and roundly criticized her into oblivion, and finally, you just became rabid beasts when fresh meat in the form of Gov Palin arrived on the scene. You've got to be worn out! Do you go to bed feeling good about yourself having spent your days on a computer annonymously attacking a woman you don't even know? Vile and vicious attacks on a woman that chances are, if you met under other terms, you would like!
I'm sorry for this once great country, a country filled with some of the most gracious people in the world I'm afraid is being overrun by horribly rude, obnoxious, nasty festering sores who call themselves citizens. Citizens who would celebrate someone such a Kanye West all the while spewing hateful words such a traitor and coward about John McCain.

It's fine if they chose to rebuttal with truth, but the biggest problem people are having is that they are shourded in lies! I spent the night on factcheck.com and my Lord if just about everything that comes out of McCain's and Palin's mouths are LIES! They have even gone as far as to LIE on factcheck.com in one of their lastest ads by misquoting them! What I would strongly suggest to everyone even wanting to make a sound choice this Nov. is to just go to FACTCHECK.COM

Almost their entire speeches at the Convention were packed with LIES! Now I do know that it sounds like I am just sold out for Obama, why YES I am, but that is because I have fully researched and double checked all that he as well as the others have been saying. Obama is not without fault, but he by far is the BEST we have hoped for in a long time. I can not stress it enough do not be fooled by McCain or Palin, they ARE NOT WHAT THEY PROFESS!

MCCAIN AND CREW WITH CARL ROVE IN TOW ARE DOING ALL THEY CAN TO CONVINCE PEOPLE TO DOUBT THE MEDIA ABOUT ALL THE THINGS THAT ARE BEING FOUND OUT ABOUT PALIN, BUT THERE ARE A LOT OF MEDIA SOURCES THAT HAVE HONESTLY FOUND HER TO BE A SHAM ALL PRETTIED UP WITH LIES!!!!!!!

ASK YOURSELVES JUST WHAT ARE THEY HIDING KEEPING HER PROTECTED IF NOT WANT THEY DON'T WANT KNOWN.

GO TO FACTCHECK.COM FOR YOURSELVES!

Helen, MA   September 11th, 2008 3:58 pm ET

What a terrible waste of time and money this selection of a running mate has been. Millions of $$ are being spent to 'protect' a person who NEVER, EVER should have been selected to fill a national office of any kind.

If McCain had selected almost anyone else, the campaign could have continued to focus on policies and issues. But in his desire to take the heat off of himself, McCain has created a situation to distract those foolish enough to be distracted by non-issues and a non-candidate like Sarah Palin.

Once again, he's made the Republican party look like the party of losers!

Eric, NC   September 11th, 2008 3:57 pm ET

Palin is nothing more than Karl Rove's stooge and lacks the credibility to run an animal shelter much less being the VP. I still cannot believe the ignorance of the American people in supporting the Republicans here. You've either got to be a religous zealot or a rich/greedy nutcase to vote for this pair. Seriously, is this the best the Republicans can come up with? I'd vote Republican if they can get some candidates who focus on the real issues of the economy, jobs, and bringing DOWN the deficit instead of worrying about what homosexuals are doing or what a woman wants to do with her own body.... Kinda lost touch with "normal" people, the Republicans have...

After viewing both conventions, I switched party affiliations from Republican to Democrat as I believe their ideas will help the overall common good society and not just "me" which needs to happen in this country. As a woman, I am outraged that Governor Palin may end up being a role model for many women in this country. The problem with this is that she is merely being used by the Republican establishment that has kept women down for generations. If she does not see this, then she is a fool. I do not want a 'fool' to end up being my Vice President. She may be good for the Republicans to win the election, however I honestly do not believe that she has the experience or wisdom to possibly hold the highest office in the United States.

Montana Thinker   September 11th, 2008 3:54 pm ET

They wouldn't have to go to this extreme if her image was as squeaky clean as they like to pretend. I don't believe she is a good person, there are too many examples of her abuse of power, her failure within her own family due to her rigid views, the fact that she believes a victim of rape or incest should be forced to bear any resulting child. The Republican Party is not polishing her image, they are playing with words and fostering lies to cover up the fact that this woman has no business running our government, being the protector of our precious freedoms, or telling anyone what to do in their own homes or with their own bodies. I will not let a woman like this impose her own values on my relationship with God.

Selecting Palin was not a stroke of genius. Who would want to be the VP on a ticket representing the 3rd Bush term. You are likely to lose, and will have the stigma attached to you forever.

I think the popular choices for GOP VP all declined. Palin was the only one who accepted, or maybe the first one. The poor lady does not even realize that she has been thrown under the proverbial bus.

regarding hunting harmless animals (you do eat the wolves you shoot – I'm sure) remember – what goes around comes around!!!

BREAKING NEWS: PALIN TO STOP TROOPERGATE INVESTIGATION!!!!

NOW WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE AND THE QUESTIONS THE MEDIA NEEDS TO BE ASKING TO VET QUEEN SARAH?!!!!

Bruce   September 11th, 2008 3:51 pm ET

wow...big surprise here,...she is not going to be allowed to go on her own, because she cannto funtion answering questions, and besides that McCain needs her to draw the crowds.
Mr. Obama...let her go..and address the issues, and why mcCain has no plan or ideas other than what has been done for the last 8 years. Concentrate on him, she will self destruct. She is not worth your time.
For all of those who think she is so great, where does she stand on the issues effecting this country? Why is she being hidden from the press,,,and this interview with Gibson will be a joke,...make one wonder what would happen to her with Russert .

Dawn   September 11th, 2008 3:51 pm ET

Funny how the Bush/McCain team keeps protecting Palin. If she is such a strong candidate/person then why can't she speak for herself? I've had enough of this charade. Time to put the puppet back in her box.

palin is not qualified to be vp. she is certainly not qualified to be president.

there were many other qualified republican woman McCain could have chosen.

many, many women know that and are not impressed nor swayed by her.

palin, like many others (not all) in the Republican party are attempting to appeal to people's ignorance, not their intelligence.

we've already had 8 years of this mentality. are we not ready to move on?

Bob Indianapolis, IN   September 11th, 2008 3:50 pm ET

She could have gotten a lot more support if she had just been honest about her dealings in the Alaskan state.
But geez.....
The rest of the stuff is plenty enough to know that I would never consider voting for someone who even broached the subject of removing books from a library, shot animals from a helicopter, thinks its a good idea to discuss creationism in the schools and supports McCain's platform. That should be enough for anyone.

Sarah Palin got paid for staying home.
Sarah Palin is currently under investigation for abuse of power.
Sarah Palin engaged in cronyism and fired good people she did not like.
Sarah Palin's greatest accomplishment as mayor of Wasilla was building a sports complex.
Sarah Palin ran a state with the 48th largest population in America.
Sarah Palin inherited a budget surplus, based entirely on oil money.
Sarah Palin cut funding to programs for teenage mothers like her own daughter.
Sarah Palin forced rape victims to pay for their own rape kit examinations.
Sarah Palin has spent the last 11 days repeating the same speech she gave in St. Paul.
Sarah Palin has spent the last 11 days lying about her record on the Bridge to NOwhere and earmarks.
Sarah Palin is unqualified. Sarah Palin lies. Sarah Palin does not belong in national politics.

Tom Lange, VA   September 11th, 2008 3:49 pm ET

This just shows that McCain has no interest in protecting this country.
Why did he pick a possible successor who has no business commanding the troops when she has no forieign policy experience?
Why wasn't she at the 9/11 sight. Is protecting a phony "image more
important than what's best for the country. Americans have had enough
of the republicans fake images for 8 years. Its time we stop voting
for their phony image and think about real americans. I will be voting

lewc   September 11th, 2008 3:49 pm ET

They have a lot of "lieGATES" to control:

1. The 5 month old –
reporters are saying that she was on the stage during a speaking engagement when her "water broke". They go farther to say that she STAYED to finish her speech before flying back to Alaska for the birth.

Is she suprerwoman or is this her daughter's first child?

2. The Airplane of her predicessor-
she brags about putting it on EBAY. That's true, but the rest of the story is that it didn't sell and she had to hire a broaker to sell it. The sell left the state in the RED and there are still pending litigations about repairs that were undisclosed in the sell.

3. The Bridge to Nowhere-
she supported it, made millions by doing so, then decided that she didn't want to support it. Keep in mind ,the money will be recieved for her state until 2009. (Millions of dollars)

4. Pork Barrel Spending-
She has recieved more money than any other state. She has requested more money than any other state per capita.

YOU DECIDE WHICH GATE YOU WOULD LIKE TO HEAR THE GOP SPIN FIRST!!!!!

Sarah Palin paid off every citizen in her state... they better love her!

Sarah Palin surrounds herself with people who owe their jobs to her.

If she were not such a risk, she would not need a script to say " Hello Alaska... it's good to be home."

If she were not such a wacko the GOP would not be shielding her from legitimate probes.

If she were at all qualified, she would tell us HOW she and McCain intend to solve a problem. Any problem.

If she were vice presidential material, she would stop repeating:

1) My friend, John McCain, the only POW in this election does not use change to make his career but uses his career to bring change.
OR
2)My friend, John McCain, the only POW in this election actually served his country and knows what it takes to lead in these tough times because as you know he's been thru some tough times in hotel Hanoi.
OR
3)My friend John McCain, the only POW in this election is the maverick of the Senate and should go to the White House so we can "shake things up!"

A per diem is given for out of town expenses–food, hotel, and transportation. And it is not against policy to include family members. I do think it is against policy to pay these expenses when you are at home. Even if you are working from home. You will be paid your regular salary even when you use sick days or personal days. So why receive a per diem for these days?
She can't be shielded from the media forever.

USAF RET   September 11th, 2008 3:46 pm ET

Why is it that she can say anything she wants, but if anyone challenges her half truths, it called attacking or sexist. If`she wants to be the VP then she needs to talk to the media and answer the tough questions just like any one else who runs for office–males and females. How else will the American voters know what she really stands for–we are owed that. Before I purchase a major product, I do my research. Likewise, before we make someone our VP we need to do our research. If that's too much for her to handle, I suggest she step aside, put on some lipstick, and attend a hockey game.

Mike Vick   September 11th, 2008 3:46 pm ET

Well...let's see.

A mother with a child who has disabilities–what kind of "accommodations" should the employer make.

You idiots better look at existing law regarding disabilities and fair labor standards management before you begin chopping trees for law suits.

The Comptroller and the Senior HRM for the State of Alaska-I am sure–have read the laws pertaining to appropriate accommodations for dealing with FML Act and the ADL.

Get a grip...this is a hard working mother and a great leader–why try to black list her when she has the potential to rejuvinate Washington and the "business as usual crowd"?

EBC   September 11th, 2008 3:44 pm ET

WOW... what is the McCain camp so AFRAID OF???

That's the million dollar question. If John McCain is so CONFIDENT about his pick in Gov. Sarah Palin, then WHY is the leash so tight on his pitt bull with lipstick? WHAT are they so afraid will come out of her bark?

Hummmm....... you know what? God gives us warning signs when pieces of the puzzle do NOT fit people!!! Something smells very fishy here...

Voters need to DO THEIR HOMEWORK. Would you just go to any doctor without doing your research? Would you take your car to just any repair shop? Would you just trust you children to just anyone?

So WHY are Republicans so quick to put all their children's future in one basket without doing a through research?

Stephanie Tapelt   September 11th, 2008 3:44 pm ET

I would never expect anything but deception from the Republicans. I found it interesting to read an article stating Republicans were specifically not talking about drilling in Alaska during the convention because Mccain was not totally on the band wagon. They felt that he would be easier to sway when he is in the White House. Two days later he appoints Palin the Alaskan Governor and former Oil Commissioner to be his running mate. Maybe they do have a plan, maybe it would be good for the country, but to me there is always a hidden agenda with them and they cannot be trusted. Hiding, protecting, strategically coordinating their bash campaign, sounds like the same Washington to me. Enough, is enough.

lou   September 11th, 2008 3:44 pm ET

They don't want us to get close to Palin because they created this image of her that we are finding out now is based on lies. McCain just keeps spitting on the America he claims to love.

Steve   September 11th, 2008 3:44 pm ET

This election is like no other before it. In this election the internet allows those that want to, to check facts on their own. State records are publicly available. There are numerous sites which have checked the facts of the statements of Palin and McCain, and found them to be false or at best, grossly distorted.

Old ways of reaching out to people are not as effective, now. You cannot (as McCain has tried to do) say one thing in one city, and then say something else in another, pandering to the locals. You can't get away with that any more. You can't select Barbie for your running mate, and expect no one to check her somewhat dark past. You cannot protect her from people finding out the truth about her.

Palin's time in the spotlight will soon come to an end. Watch McCain dump her like a dirty sock in about 2 weeks, once all the facts come to light, and no amount of slimeball spinning by Rove can fix it.

Bill Charlotte,NC   September 11th, 2008 3:44 pm ET

If she is so "all that" than why do they have to protect her? She is not a "super woman" she is a "Bubblewrap" woman. She has to be wrapped in a bubble to keep away the evil outside world. This is CRAZY and we are allowing it to happen and falling for this gimmick. Are we really this gullible.

Folks.... there is nothing here or they would let it out. Who has ever ever heard of protecting.... hiding.... shielding a Vice Pres candidate? Vice Pres is the person that John McInsane said would "need to be able to take over." She can't even get out of the closet.

ProudDemocrat   September 11th, 2008 3:44 pm ET

Is it true Palin was having sex with the moose before she kills them?

Mo, NC   September 11th, 2008 3:43 pm ET

Well if her background wasn't so questionable to begin with, there would have never been any alleged rumors spreading about the Internet. Further evidence that she was a shoddy choice as a running mate. I hope this all blows up in McCain's face!

Hopefuylly not in 2008!

NO WAY, NO HOW, NO MCCAIN!   September 11th, 2008 3:43 pm ET

What image? The one she dictated for herself? That is:

A pitbull coated in lipstick that kills moose and "dresses them"?

The beauty queen who lost to another beautiful woman?

A gun-toting governor that lobbied for federal funds but then said no, but spent them in her hometown anyway?

A woman with five kids, two who really need her attention that is running about the lower US with an old white dude?

A woman who prays for pipelines and exhorts others to do the same?

A woman who thinks she could be VP, but has been waging war on her sister's Ex that is downright shameful and vindictive...

Yup, that about covers it.

sario   September 11th, 2008 3:43 pm ET

Are there any McCain/Palin supporters that are NOT OK with Palin not answering any questions from the press? Are you wondering why all that she says is directly taken from the speak at the RNC?

Cynthia   September 11th, 2008 3:41 pm ET

Why can't Palin protect her own image. If their plans are for her to be VP should should be able to stand alone out on the stump, go before reporters and answer questions, and be able to talk without reading the scripted speech that she gave at the RNC convention. I guess that is your job to protect her but put out half truths and downright lies about your opponents. A large number of people have begin to view Senator McCain as a dishonorable and untrustworthy man because of some of the things that he has put out there that are just not true. Remember back in the primaries he said that he would run and honorable campaign and said during Saddleback & their convention we could trust him to get Bin Laden. If he knows how to get Bin Laden – tell President Bush so that he can start on it right away.

indiePA   September 11th, 2008 3:41 pm ET

What's to protect if everything in her past were honest and above board? Sometimes the truth hurts, as well it should if she's placed herself in a position of scrutiny and her past can't support her. As far as the piddly things are concerned (re: pigs and lipstick), her own party was the first to link her to the comment and make a stink about it. As mother used to say, "If the shoe (lipstick) fits, wear it!"

Steve A. , New Braunfels , Texas   September 11th, 2008 3:40 pm ET

If she is going to be vp she should be able to protect herself ,Mcsame needs to turn her lose,...whoever heard of one canidate protecting another canidate while running for the highest two offices in the world. If she can't take it she can't stay, McCain protecting Palin and saying country first ,etc. This stinks, the whole RNC stinks.

Jim in Orlando   September 11th, 2008 3:40 pm ET

Can it be any more obvious that McCain chose Palin without her being fully vetted? I

It's gradually coming out that she's a shallow, but flashy, inexperienced but big talking, conservative at heart who like John McCain has a chameleon like ability to change from a conservative, toe the party line member to a "maverick" when that suits the political landscape better.

My hope is that undecided voters will see McCain and Palin for all the warts they have although they pretend they don't have them.

Country First   September 11th, 2008 3:39 pm ET

The republicans were in the white house when the terrorists attacked
this country. How are they going to protect us.? John McCain chose
a country first mantra, then he selects a woman with no foreign policy
experience whatsoever, and who proclaims to have no interest in the Iraq war. How is SHE going to protect us? John McCain's claim to fame is
being a POW. I respect that. But if John McCain is captured again
while he is asleep in the white house, How are they going to protect
us? Americans had better think long and hard before they allow the
republicans to fool this country again.

Bilderberg   September 11th, 2008 3:38 pm ET

This is politricks yall. They have to do what is in their best interest. In this case, one cant deny the repulicans gained some points once the pitbull err...i mean...governor joined the ticket. Thats fact.

The part that intrigues me is that they actually believe these lies, these jedi mind tricks will actually work on every american. it wont. some of us do pay attention. Some of us dont. These kind of reverse phycology rovian tactics will work on some, there is not mistake about that.

My analogy? You can pull a mule to the river, but you cant force it to drink water. Well...some mules i guess you can. i aint the one!

This is comedy. First they attacked Obama on his experience and stating his not an agent of change. Then they realized obama was onto something with this whole change thing and chose palin, THEN SWITCHED THEIR CAMPAIGN THEM TO OBAMA'S??!?!

NOW THEY ARE ALL FOR CHANGE.

LS   September 11th, 2008 3:38 pm ET

The heck with America's image, our problems, our issues, our struggles. Put PALIN first, right? Throw all the American people out the door, along with the people's issues and concerns, and place Palin on top.

Protecting her from what? From people finding out the truth about her? Palin makes me sick. McCain and Palin are crazy if they think they are going to control this country with their nonsense.

Sick Republicans . . just sick. Can't wait for McCain and Palin to be out of the public eye. McCain and Palin don't deserve to present America.

Mike in Calgary   September 11th, 2008 3:38 pm ET

Tom in Delaware   September 11th, 2008 3:38 pm ET

I would like to personally thank the Liberal Left for making Sarah Palin so popular and lovable...we just couldn't have done it without your persistent and dedicated efforts.

By keeping her the focus of attention (with the exceptions of your very own gaffe-prone canidates) you have elevated her to the point of sainthood.

Your continious slander has compelled both the media, and your own campaign, to do nothing but speak of her.

It's like a dream come true, and with a little luck, and some more hard work from you tremendously stupid individuals, she will be the first Vice-Presidential canidate in history to propel a ticket into the White House.

Hang in there, and keep up the great work.

My Father was in politics locally. He held a positions that required traveling to different cities on occasion. Not ONCE did he invite myself or any other sibling to go along and then charge it to the city of Seattle stating fatherhood as a reason. A $707 dollar a night room???? So the previous Governor of Alaska spent more. Big deal! An abuse is an abuse no matter how small or large. Stop trying to put lipstick on a pig Hockey Mom!

Why is the media obsessed with Palin? Isn't McCain running president? Guess he wasn't good enough to hold his own and had to bring in some crazy right-wring nutt to get his campaign going.

But seriously, what the heck is wrong with the media! Get over yourselves and report real stories on the real issues. All of these news media people need to stop putting lipstick on a pig.

LYNDA   September 11th, 2008 3:37 pm ET

If Palin becomes President should something unfortunate happen to McCain, then is she able to perform as President?

If she cannot answer tough questions from any media source then can she run this country?

Will she be able to speak to foreign governments in a time of crisis?

Maybe she will let Charlie Gibson escort her around and let him be her spokesperson if she has to address a foreign leader?

I wonder who else McCain has in mind to run his cabinet.

If she keeps hiding, we'll need to call her the MOLE

Belle2   September 11th, 2008 3:36 pm ET

She certainly has ideas and beliefs outside the norm-so what. Obama's church (the only claim he has to being Christian) and its doctrine are outside the norm; maybe he is also a cocky whacko! They both have about the same amount of experience. Both are cocky to believe that is all the experience they need to be either President or VP. Of course, she was just up in Alaska doing her job until she was chosen by McCain. Look at all those earmarks she brought in for Alaska; she was doing her job well. If she did as good a job as VP, maybe she would be able to fix the deficient. Obama, on the other hand, has only a few speeches and a few unproductive years in the State Senate and 18 months in the US Senate. If this election is about electing the cockiest whacko out there, chances are Obama will win.

Festus, Montana   September 11th, 2008 3:36 pm ET

She is not qualified for President. McCain touts "country first" , then
picks Sara Palin, who can't defend this country because she has no
foreign policy experience and said herself that she is not interested in
the war in iraq. God forbid that John gets captured again. This is the
most dangerous couple since Borris and Natasha of the Rocky and Bullwinkle show.

Will in Richmond, VA   September 11th, 2008 3:36 pm ET

If you had bothered to vet her and then reject her then you wouldn't have to protect her.

But Obama is a breath of fresh air.

Chris B.   September 11th, 2008 3:36 pm ET

Still haven't heard a single Palin supporter list where she stands on the major issues: Economy, foreign policy, social issues, etc. I refuse to believe that independents were swayed by someone as vacuous on the issues as Palin. I hope for the Republicans sake that crash course in American politics that she is clearly getting is going well. But, like when I crammed for an exam on the last night, you're bound to slip up and it is going to be a mighty, mighty fall from grace, not a two point deduction in your test score.

Elizabeth in Texas   September 11th, 2008 3:36 pm ET

Has Palin stopped lying about the Bridge to Nowhere yet?

Amy from MI   September 11th, 2008 3:36 pm ET

Why would I believe anything the McCain camp tells me about Palin, when every speech they give, every ad they run, is full of lies and half-truths? The plane didn't sell of ebay-they left that out. She fought for the bridge and took the money-left that part out. McCain and Palin are lying to us about their records, so why should I believe them when they say they're going to be the agents of change? McCain voted 95% with Bush in 2007, that's what I believe.

Florencia   September 11th, 2008 3:36 pm ET

So when is the John McCain camp going to focus on the issues that Americans really care about, and stop spending so much time on trying to make us believe that V.P Pick Sarah Palin is not another lying, underhanded politican? She said it herself she is a like a pitbull only with lipstick on. Why do they want us to believe she is Ms. sweet and innocent, and that the media is ganging up on her? All these sources cant make up the same lie. John McCain, stop insulting the intelligence of the Amercian people by making up stories, and controveries, and instead, talk about real issues that we care about.

Lorna, NY   September 11th, 2008 3:36 pm ET

They are not lies. They are the truth. If McCain would have vetted Sarah, the media would not have to. Bad mistake for McCain and the republican spin masters.

I hope and pray that in 6 months, Sarah Palin is the answer to a trivia question and nothing more.

David, Silver Spring, MD   September 11th, 2008 3:36 pm ET

Sure, McCain's forces are trying to shield Palin and attack anyone who dares do the vetting that McCain never felt a need to do.

But the clock is ticking on Sarah Palin's fifteen minutes of fame. 15...14... 13... 12....

The gloss will be gone on Palin even before it's gone from her fabled lipstick.

The lower states don't want her here.

Obama 08: White, 60 yr old female   September 11th, 2008 3:34 pm ET

Why do they have to "protect" her. Why doesn't she speak for herself and meet the press?? If she can't stand up for herself and explain he record, how is she going to fair as VP.

Palin has only read from prepared speeches written by Bush people, hasn't answered a single question of the press and McCain hasn't has a press conference for four weeks. Neither has he made one single policy statement and all things Republican have disappeared from their signs, speeches and entourage. Yet, their campaign is being run by the Bush people, Bush is raising money for them and lobbyists are the backbone of his campaign.

So far it appears her record and her chutzpah match up.

If the Democratic legions on the ground in Alaska can dig up anything that would discredit the information we have so far–so be it.

Otherwise...back off, shut up, and let the folks who desire and want to lead-–lead.

The Presidency and Vice-Presidency of the United States of America–isn't just a resume filler--it's the culmination of a life devoted to service and requires ultimate devotion to the country and it's core ideals.

She's feisty, she's cute, she's got great style, and she's firm in her convictions – or at least the teleprompter. But the truth is starting to come out that she is not telling the truth on a number of key fronts. And McCain's advisor is video-taped saying they want to make this about personalities – not issues. So far they are winning on that point – and it supports this news that protecting her image is critical. If she's got no image – they've got nothing. But if they succeed in riding this wave of Saramania into office – woe be us. Jefferson, I believe, said something to the effect that his greatest fear for the young nation is that it would one day elect the leaders we deserved. I think a McCain-Palin win based on this personality blitz will confirm that we are so politically dumb we don't actually deserve the democratic republic itself.

Image is all she has. You don't ask the librarian what she'd think about banning books if you're wasn't interested in it. Her travel per diem is for official state business, not for her family to take vacations on the state's dime. She requested earmarks to the amount of $680 per Alaskan resident while Obama has only asked for $77 per Illinois resident. She had rape victims pay for their own rape kits after an examination until a Democratic bill stopped the practice in 2000. The list goes on and on. She has no record to protect. Only image. And this is the person Republicans are falling over themselves for? No wonder why you people voted for Bush twice.

"Sarah Sideshow" will lose her luster just as soon as the media gets a hold of her. Further, once Obama-Biden force this election back to the issues, Americans will see just how clueless "Sarah Sideshow" ireallyh is. Republicans cannot win on the economy, gas prices, war, education, the home mortgage crisis, etc. Thus, they want to run on "Sarah Sideshow." We cannot and will not let it happen.

The "Sarah Sideshow" phenomenon will soon subside. The false claims of sexism and distractions will end and Americans, even Republicans, will look to the candidates on the issues. And it is the issues that will help Obama take The White House. -Mc

I am really not understanding why she has not started to campaign by herself for McCain, though. Why are they still joined at the hip? I saw a clip from March 2008 with from her own mouth Sarah Palin said if you are going to run for a public office that you need to toughen up and let things people say roll off your back. She was speaking of Hillary Clinton and her campaign.
Now she has not even been vetted by the press. She will not take questions because she said from what seemed to be day one that the press was rude and sexist towards her. I do not think she is allowed to talk on her own for fear it will show how unqualified she is!!
This women is going for VP of the USA she needs to take her own advice and "toughen up" and don't "whine".
I hope when Charlie Gibson does interview her all this "fluff" will be done with and he hits her hard with questions about her qualifications to run the USA .

Truth about Sarah Palin -

Palin's office approved a state job for a friend and campaign aide with whom she shared a land investment, financial records and interviews over the past two weeks show. She hired a former lobbyist for a pipeline company to help oversee a multibillion-dollar deal with that same company.

And she sent campaign e-mails on her city hall account while serving as mayor of Wasilla — conduct for which she later turned in an oil commissioner on ethics charges.

Sarah, Northern Colorado   September 11th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

I look forward to hearing what these two are going to do for the country if America is stupid enough to elect 'em. I'm tired of hearing them all defend her. Hopefully, that's not all they have; because if it is, there's a possibility that the country will be screwed.

Tonya, Richmond, VA   September 11th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

Rebutting the rumors about Sarah Palin is a wise and essential considering the facts that most U.S still do not truly know what Sarah Palin stands for. As an Obama supporter or dare I say "loyal follower" I was very happy to see Obama put to rest lies that were told about him.
More importantly though, the McCain campaign needs to allow Sarah conduct more interviews with reporters and she needs to give up that tired campaign speech of hers and focus on the issues.
Then and only then can we know the real Sarah Palin. For me however, its a bit to late, I am an Obama supporter but there is a chance that the McCain campaign might win and it is important to know where Sarah stands on the issues.

You headline omitted the word "fake" between "Palin's" and "image".

She did try to get books banned in Wasilla. Had the librarian acquiesced to her attempt OR if she had been able to successfully oust the librarian and replace her with someone more compliant, books would have been banned. We just don't know how many or which ones. However, if the Pentecostals have a list of "bad" books and we can get the 1996 version, then the mystery would likely be solved.

In a town of 5,000 with only 50 employees, if you force out four higher level people (which she tried), you probably gained the intimidation factor over the rest. Good jobs are hard to find in such a small town and the consequences of getting fired are very great for the victims and their families.

Palin seems to leave a trail of bodies wherever she goes.

Why can't she answer some questions for the American people?

We are getting ready to vote and we need some info please!

They going to deny her religious fervor? her denial of evolution? her support of abstinence only education? her cruelty to rape victims by charging them for their rape kits? her keeping the money for the bridge to nowhere?

They going to erase all internet files of her insane preaching about holy wars?

For someone who has so little experience and has barely left the country, she sure has already caused a good amount of damage!

McCain would best serve his campaign by protecting his a$$......they will be coming for him......and not Gidget.

Try to cover the sun with one finger.. good luck

Esmeralda   September 11th, 2008 3:18 pm ET

Good Luck!

How about just informing us the voters through actual hard-core interviews where questions can be asked in style of the missed Russert, and answered by Palin herself.

We, the people, are not looking for attack adds, 'new names'.. slogans.. or the likes.. we are looking to understand our candidates on the issues.

Mr. McSame, forget about Palin's feelings she is a tough woman, now concentrate on us 300 million Americans and tell us how you will fix the economy, college tuition, inflation, gas prices, forclosures.....etc. We need you more than Palin now.

Steve in DC   September 11th, 2008 3:16 pm ET

Good luck...your gonna need it!

If they refrained from lying, I mean exagerating, her resume there would be no charged to refute.
