(CNN) - In the nearly two weeks since Sen. John McCain announced his vice presidential nominee to the world, the Internet rumors about Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin have been flying.
The McCain campaign is taking these seriously, and it's fighting back as well as rebutting charges in the mainstream media.

She was tring to be a news anchor when obama was pounding the pavment as a community organizer, 20 years ago.
You can run but you can't hide from the Truth. I'm reserving my opinion of Palin until AFTER I hear her talk about something other than her family, the $$ she kept on the bridge to nowhere and the earmarks she took and is now against.
Liberalst hate a smart american woman who does not tow the democrat line.
Ok, so let's get this straight. She's the one refusing to talk to anyone about anything, and now the media is being blamed for excessive coverage? Give me a break!
Imagined interaction between Palin and media that's probably not to far off from the truth:
Media: Governer Palin, what is your position on the need for alternative energy?
Palin: Stop grilling me, sexist media!
This is a joke–she has no supporters–and those who claim they are are fooling themselves. No one from out of Alaska has ever known of this woman's existence until McCain made his VP announcement. So, at the most, her supporters have known her for what...3 weeks maybe? Are you kidding me?
Oh, Sarah, I don't know how you are going to pray this one away. Does this now mean that the RC will be focusing on defending her instead of trying to belittle Sen. Obama?
Was Sarah on Jerry Springer last week? Trash!
Too late now, Republicans, your stuck with the Clampett Clan and the traveling side show.
Should have vetted her and not just cave to the evangelicals just to get the coins.
Guess that is what happens when you sell your soul to the devil!
It is amazing how quick you all are ready to believe rumor and say some reallt horrible and hurtful things about a woman you do not know...
Come on folks just because you are mad and GWB and Chaney is no reason to check your common sense at the door and just jump on whomever the Democratic Party puts up.
Image is all she has. You don't ask the librarian what she'd think about banning books if you're wasn't interested in it. Her travel per diem is for official state business, not for her family to take vacations on the state's dime. She requested earmarks to the amount of $680 per Alaskan resident while Obama has only asked for $77 per Illinois resident. She had rape victims pay for their own rape kits after an examination until a Democratic bill stopped the practice in 2000. The list goes on and on. She has no record to protect. Only image. And this is the person Republicans are falling over themselves for? No wonder why you people voted for Bush twice.
What I want to know is why you are/ were a supporter of a survivalist camp in Alaksa and we also want to know the truth beind the affair you had with your husbans ex business partner. We want answers!!!!!
She's feisty, she's cute, she's got great style, and she's firm in her convictions – or at least the teleprompter. But the truth is starting to come out that she is not telling the truth on a number of key fronts. And McCain's advisor is video-taped saying they want to make this about personalities – not issues. So far they are winning on that point – and it supports this news that protecting her image is critical. If she's got no image – they've got nothing. But if they succeed in riding this wave of Saramania into office – woe be us. Jefferson, I believe, said something to the effect that his greatest fear for the young nation is that it would one day elect the leaders we deserved. I think a McCain-Palin win based on this personality blitz will confirm that we are so politically dumb we don't actually deserve the democratic republic itself.
Maybe McCain could be helped by reading this book, written by one of his former advisors, Torie Clarke, published a couple years ago called... Lipstick on a Pig: Winning In the No-Spin Era by Someone Who Knows the Game.
GO OBAMA 08
If Sarah Palin were a man with the same record. She would not have been selected for VP.....
But since politics is a game for the simple minded citizens...McCain is playing the game very well. To select her to be VP.....Now his trick will be to keep her quiet, and repeating the same speach, so us foolish Americans can't see the real Palin.
Why won't you let her talk on her own McBush? what don't you want us to find out?
PROTECT it???? Or protect his fantasy of it? That's what you get for not doing your homework, John. And for making impulsive choices to spite the powers that be.
good. that means you leave little time keeping up on the important things . LIKE ISSUES!
Sarah now that your back in Alaska...can you please just stay there. You have already brought on a huge debt for your State, and we as a Country, don't need any more! What was is that John said, "She is an expert on the Economy." Yeah right, thats just like him saying that "the economy is sound!"
What about that controversy regarding the per diem? I'm waiting.
You know, the Republicans might call it fighting back and defending Palin's name, record, and honor...I call it as I see it...that being media ratings and coverage of the Republicans going up, up, up!
Protect her image... like Bush does – secrecy, deception and limited contact!
This is what we need more of!!... not
ps. funny how it was "ok" to spread rumors about Obama during the primaries... but this is "so wrong" – it's funny b/c it's not even Obama's camp doing it, yet he's the one being blamed!! (aka distraction, smearing, fear mongering!)
I think they need to allow the chips to fall where they may.
So far it appears her record and her chutzpah match up.
If the Democratic legions on the ground in Alaska can dig up anything that would discredit the information we have so far–so be it.
Otherwise...back off, shut up, and let the folks who desire and want to lead-–lead.
The Presidency and Vice-Presidency of the United States of America–isn't just a resume filler--it's the culmination of a life devoted to service and requires ultimate devotion to the country and it's core ideals.
Let's see what they dig up...and if nothing-then shut up.
how do you defend the indefensible? not Palin's record, I mean... McCain's choice of her.
Anyone who'd choose this person as the potential VP and potential president isn't fit for changing his own Depends, never mind holding public office.
Horrific. Run for your lives if the McCain / Palin Lie Machine is successful in fooling enough Americans. God help us all.
So, why is it ok when the Dems try to protect their so called image?
McCain/Palin '08!!
Stop the lying, and maybe we would have some respect for the Governor. Instead, all we get a folksy anecdotes and false stories.
Not the best way to convince independents, like myself, that Palin is prepared to be anywhere near the Oval Office.
Well, If McCain would've chosen a better vp, the GOP wouldn't have to go around 'protecting' her. There is another ethics problem she is facing – reported in Bloomberg today.
